The Amazing Rewatch: We had some emotional moments. Yeah, emotional episode. And um it first aired, hold on, I'm trying to find it. I'm behind.
The Amazing Rewatch: April 22nd. 2012.
The Amazing Rewatch: And... So we were in. Tanzania yeah And we are leaving. I'm going to India. as we expected.
The Amazing Rewatch: Burp. I think we already mentioned we were going to India. Yeah, we mentioned it in the last episode. um Yeah, so... um I can't even remember like the last episode of.
The Amazing Rewatch: Tanzania. The... Um, Gosh, let's see
The Amazing Rewatch: It really, it it's only been a week. i don't and I don't know how I can like watch. Shows. that are like airing on TV now and even remember what happened. I was thinking about this the other day. I have seen Lost.
The Amazing Rewatch: three times all the way through. And if you asked me... what happens in like so some episodes i couldn't tell you And I've seen it three times. yeah
The Amazing Rewatch: So you're experiencing things for the first time? Yeah, my brain is... Same. Not with loss, but with this. Sometimes I'm actually like, is this concerning? Is this like normal forgetfulness? Or is it...
The Amazing Rewatch: Should I be? Concert. Okay, we ended with Nary and Jamie getting... Oh, yeah. eliminated there was a W turn yes Yes. Okay.
The Amazing Rewatch: They also had a speed bump that they had to do. And so, yeah. Nary and Jamie are gone. We're down to the top five. And. Here we go. yeah So.
The Amazing Rewatch: last leg bopper was like walking and he kind of like twisted his ankle but in the At the same time, he... like kind of twisted his knee, which he already had like a previous injury on. So he was really struggling.
The Amazing Rewatch: And maybe it was two episodes ago that he did that. Anyway, he... He's been like. Dealing with some knee pain. yeah So he's. They're in their hotel. And they have a doctor looking at it. And he was like. If you. If we put a brace on it, you're probably okay to keep going for now. so They do, but he is he knows that he's going to be a little bit slower.
The Amazing Rewatch: And. Um, They depart first at 9 .06 p .m. And the clue says fly 2 ,900 miles to Cochin, India. Once there, make your way by bus to the Sacred Heart. college.
The Amazing Rewatch: to find your next clip. And then Rachel and Dave are right behind him at 9 .07. They are talking about... The W -turn last episode where Art and JJ had made a deal with them that they were going to U -turn Brendan and Rachel.
The Amazing Rewatch: But Rachel and Dave didn't think they needed to because... They knew there was going to be an elimination with the... nary and jamie yeah and they didn't want to waste their u -turn yeah And Art and JJ are like so mad at them, especially JJ.
The Amazing Rewatch: And Rachel said, we don't have to do JJ's dirty work. yeah We didn't feel like we needed to use it, so we didn't. Yeah. And so Mark and Bopper, Rachel and Dave get to a travel agency. They're getting their flights.
The Amazing Rewatch: the soonest The earliest flight departs at 7 .40 a .m. the next day. So they're all going to be on the same. flight pretty much well kind of. Yeah. um And.
The Amazing Rewatch: When they're there, Art and JJ arrive. They departed at 9 .32. They get to the travel agency and they're just being like really obvious. The editing was so funny. They like did like slow motion and like this dramatic music. And it's like.
The Amazing Rewatch: oh what's gonna happen but nothing happened they didn't even say anything and they Well, they made it like really obvious that they... they were not talking to them. They're like ignoring them. And Mark and Bob were like. They're acting like babies. And.
The Amazing Rewatch: They're just funny because Mark and Bob are, they are not involved in it whatsoever. Yeah. So this is just like. Third -party observation. Um. I wrote down,
The Amazing Rewatch: This is like... I mean, it's along the same lines of what we're talking about but kind of separate so Dave says, the Our relationship with Art and JJ has been severed.
The Amazing Rewatch: No fault of Rachel and I's. I hate it when people say that. Oh, Rachel and I's. He should say Rachel and mine. Yeah, like mine and Rachel's. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: And. I think people think that they're trying to say it correctly because you do say, Rachel and I... did dia yada yada yada yeah but you don't say It's because of Rachel and eyes.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. Because if he was if he wasn't even seeing Rachel, because if if no fault of... Mine. Yeah, like if the other person wasn't in that sentence, it would still it would need to still be grammatically correct.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah, so there's a little... English lesson for you guys. Yes. And ah clearly we're not like experts because we mess things up all the time, but it just. I wrote it down because...

Yes. um um So yeah, Brendan and Rachel departed at 1155 quite a bit. after yeah that's a big gap they had to go back and do that water detour because of the u -turn and then vanessa ralpha Vanessa and Ralph at 131. they also had to go back and do the detour.
The Amazing Rewatch: So. Um. Vanessa and Ralph get... Like. They changed their layover or something. Yeah, it's a different city. They go to Nairobi instead of... somewhere else it doesn't really make a difference because they all arrive they basically land at the same time yeah So they land in Cochin, India.
The Amazing Rewatch: And they have to get on buses to get to this. um Sacred Heart College. And the buses seem to be coming pretty frequently. They all get kind of on a different bus and they'll all arrive kind of at the same time. so The buses...
The Amazing Rewatch: Come. Well, Mark and Bopper, I feel like theirs was a little bit later yeah because Bopper was going really slow. And. Um.
The Amazing Rewatch: and And then Mark got sick again on the bus. Okay, so... I feel like the subtitles have a really hard time with ah Mark and Bopper's accent. yeah I don't know if we've talked about this already, but like it says...
The Amazing Rewatch: a lot of things wrong. Yeah. Does... Or maybe I'm just not hearing it right. Does Mark or does Bopper call Mark? Blood.

The Amazing Rewatch: but it's actually spelled K -O -C -H -I. and the name changed in 1996. So I don't know why they call it the old name. Cochin. in the show Um,
The Amazing Rewatch: So it's in the state of Kerala. It's in southwest India. Its nickname is... Queen of the Arabian Sea. So it's on. the west side of India on the Arabian Sea. It's known for the spices.
The Amazing Rewatch: um Fishing. colonial architecture, seafood. And it's diverse religious history. Eh. Um... Is a major port city.

The Amazing Rewatch: A massive flood. altered the coastline and damaged the Port. and
The Amazing Rewatch: It developed a Large Harbor. Well, that is very significant. And it became even more important in trading. And then the Portuguese arrived in the 1500 and built a fort there. And...

The Amazing Rewatch: Um... Then after Indian independence in 1947, The state. of Cochin joined the Indian Union. and It has a remarkable Jewish history.
The Amazing Rewatch: Heh. It has a historic Jewish community known as the Cochin Jews, whose presence in the region goes back many centuries. And. There is a place called Jewtown.
The Amazing Rewatch: and a large synagogue there built in 1568. It has historic. Torah scrolls, copper plates. And... really interesting Jewish history there.
The Amazing Rewatch: It's very... And... Very unique. Yeah. um It is... Yeah, well known for its food. a little bit different food than like other places of india has a lot of coconut seafood Black pepper.

The Amazing Rewatch: Very interesting history. So. Huh. um But yeah, we... In this leg, we're kind of not... out in the bustling city as much as we are in other legs that they do in India in the past.
The Amazing Rewatch: but also it's not as densely populated as some other places in india at the past but yeah it looks very very hot what they're doing today. Yes. So they start arriving at this. Sacred Heart College and they get the clue.
The Amazing Rewatch: uh rachel and dave are the first ones there and it's a roadblock and it says master No, who's got all the right moves? Who's got all the right moves? The task is... This team member must master a Bollywood dance routine, join a group of 30 extras, and perform it for a Bollywood director. to get their next clue.
The Amazing Rewatch: And. so rachel does this roadblock she says she has dance experience throughout like Her whole life. Mm hmm. And then everyone else starts arriving. so Rachel from Brendan and Rachel also does it. And then Vanessa does it. and Then.
The Amazing Rewatch: Art and JJ open the clue and Art's like... I did the dancing one last time. Yeah. Well, JJ was like, this is for you. And Art's like, no. I yeah i did the last dancing one, the one with the bottles on the head. Which was like episode one or two. a Yeah, it was.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. ah A while ago. So. JJ said he'll do it. Okay. And everyone has very low hopes for his dance abilities. Art says he looks like a gorilla in a satin suit or something like that. but And they have to wear like the special outfits. and They're like long pants and long sleeves. And it doesn't look breathable. No. It looks like. The fabric is very. Like satin. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: And it looks very, very hot. They get very, very sweaty. So they have to learn this routine. and It's like a long routine, actually. I know. that some ah Rachel, blonde Rachel was like, it's like the never ending dance routine. Yeah. It's probably.
The Amazing Rewatch: Like. 40 seconds yeah you know and like that's That's... A lot when you're... learning it, yeah especially if you can't dance. So. And. On the way there, Mark did get really sick on the bus and was throwing up. And they arrive and they see that it's like a physical roadblock.
The Amazing Rewatch: And so Mark says he'll do it, even though Bopper's like the better dancer, but his knee hurts. Yeah. So Mark says he'll do it. Bobber says he ain't got much rhythm, but he's got heart. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: And the er the error the error was... muggy what is it how are the error the r on the bus This is about our.
The Amazing Rewatch: Their accents are so thick I love them. It's like... um well nate bargetti says it's like part of his uh comedy show he's like all all yeah And I have a friend from Tennessee who says it like that.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. so Oil. Oil. Anyway, i love I love the Southern accent. um So yeah, Mark is going to do... the roadblock and the choreography actually does look pretty complicated it's not like just simple moves there's a a lot of arm movements and turning and leg movements and everything. So yeah it is actually like a really hard task. A challenge. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: Rachel does get it on the first try, though. and she did great and she like did it with a smile and she like looked perfect yeah it's like okay And... Art.
The Amazing Rewatch: is sitting there observing and however many times he says This is for the girls. The girls can do this one. It would be good to have a girl on your team. Girl, like he's just like saying help. So...
The Amazing Rewatch: Many times it's like. girls three boys zero like he's just saying like girls girls there are men that can dance yeah There are just because the two that are doing this challenge can't. Yeah. It does not mean, I mean, I guess they are, there are stereotypes. um Well, Rachel...
The Amazing Rewatch: Brendan and Rachel, Rachel, she... fails a couple of times and This is her problem. Like she gets really worked up if she doesn't get it on like the first try and she gets really emotional and it's like she starts to get in her head. And Brendan says he's like.
The Amazing Rewatch: uh it's a good thing to have a girl on your team so that you can do stuff like this but also girls get emotional and that's not good yeah So. yeah I'm just thinking of that. that team of friends that were cheerleaders.
The Amazing Rewatch: On. a couple I don't know, maybe. Within the last five seasons of The Amazing Race. And... there It was a boy and a girl. oh like that boy would have been able to to do this yeah for sure Yeah. There's a lot of them.
The Amazing Rewatch: boys that can dance really well yeah but Anyway. um So yeah, Vanessa tries and... She does okay, but she does mess up. And JJ does not pass on his first try. Rachel doesn't pass. Rachel is counting so loud. yeah She's like, one, two, three, four, five.
The Amazing Rewatch: She's like trying to smile and she kind of looks. Yeah. Like. Like deranged. Yes, that deranged. That was the word I was looking for. Um...
The Amazing Rewatch: So did we say what the... next clue was because rachel um blonde rachel got it done i don't know what to call her rachel one rachel two oh yeah yeah i guess blonde rachel and green rachel yeah they're always been green um I didn't get exactly the wording, but it says take a rickshaw to the Indian Coffee House by the Shishpa Park.
The Amazing Rewatch: Okay. Yeah. And the head waiter will give you the next clue. So they're headed. Well. They are, they get there. And it's a detour. And the... Choices are cricket or clutch it.
The Amazing Rewatch: So for cricket, each player has to hit one cricket ball past professional players to a boundary around the field. So there's like this like. um little I don't know, just like a ah line.
The Amazing Rewatch: that they've put out on the field that they either have to hit it to like rolling past it on the ground or hit it over in the air and both of them have to do that And then for Clutch It, they have to learn how to drive a three -wheeled auto rickshaw at a taxi driving training school. They'll transport passengers around the training course.
The Amazing Rewatch: mm -hmm Think I would pick cricket. Me too. Like we can drive. Uh... Clutch. vehicle. Yeah. No I think so I would as well. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: So, but Rachel and Dave choose Clutch It. um And then we go back to. Uh, the roadblock we We go back and forth a lot here.
The Amazing Rewatch: Now. So. um They're all attempting again and not passing. Mark's choreographer is like even getting a little frustrated with him. He's like.
The Amazing Rewatch: like And it's really, really hot. They're all sweaty, but Mark is the sweatiest. And he already doesn't feel good because of the motion sickness. And he's just like he's. he's not doing well and then Um.
The Amazing Rewatch: Vanessa is the next one to... past the The... The roadblock. Roadblock, right? Yeah. And then Rachel is not far behind on her fourth attempt. She passes. Thank goodness, because she wouldn't have.
The Amazing Rewatch: been able to do an another attempt i don't think she would have been too frustrated And then the way they edit it makes it seem like it didn't take... JJ too much longer after Rachel. It says on his fourth try. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: So that's not too bad. Yeah. So Mark is the only one left now and he's like, he's getting dizzy. He's... I feel like he was really close a few times, but the judge was really strict.
The Amazing Rewatch: I know. there Yeah, there was a few times where it was like, I would have... Giving that to him. Yeah. He's like, no, do it again. It depends on the judge sometimes. And there's some tasks where it's like, wow, they're... Very.
The Amazing Rewatch: very strict right now and then sometimes it's like they're so very lenient you could literally just kind of Yeah. Do you remember when we talked to Todd and Ashley when we interviewed them and they said that?
The Amazing Rewatch: Like. That first task that they did in Thailand, this was season 35, I think, right? So there was like that task with the lotus. flowers that the judge was so so so strict and so then like later in the season when they were doing that like um arch for the the folk dance in like Slovenia yeah Ashley was like I thought it was going to be the same but that that judge was not strict at all yeah
The Amazing Rewatch: So that can also like hinder you when, you know. Yeah, you really don't. You should like try to do the bare minimum first. And then if you have to pass it off, you're like, yeah oh. Okay. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um, So yeah. Mark is like really struggling. Bopper would not have been able to do this. No. That was a lot of like copying. Yeah. And dancing like he would have been in pain. So.
The Amazing Rewatch: I mean, he said he's like, I should have done this, but. He wouldn't have been able to do it. and They're just having a hard time. so Yeah. And then Rachel and Dave were doing the...
The Amazing Rewatch: um Rick Shaw. detour. they're it's kind of like the same thing they're kind of like fighting about and like about their communication and I actually thought...
The Amazing Rewatch: This was on Rachel. Because. Dave even said he was like, would you be open to like listening to me when I tell you to turn? He didn't even say it mean at all. Like he asked, like he was like, would you be open to this? And she's like, not if you say it like a mean, like not if you say it in a mean way. Yeah. But at the beginning of the text, like when she was very first trying it, her very first try and she hit something and she was like laughing and he's like, this is not funny.
The Amazing Rewatch: Oh. I missed that part. This is not funny. I don't know why you're laughing. They just like take. ah I don't know. Like, Rachel seems like she's... Trying to have a good time, but Dave is taking things too seriously. But she also, like, takes the things that he says too seriously.
The Amazing Rewatch: Specifically, yeah you know. I don't know. I still am like... unsure about their dynamic yeah they sometimes don't even seem like they like each other it doesn't It doesn't seem like they're like... romantic towards each other whatsoever yeah and that could be just because they were separated for so long i don't know i don't know I'll be interested. I i feel like I have heard what... um like what happens to them after the race but I'm interested to like read more. into it so
The Amazing Rewatch: um They end up finishing the detour um and get the clue that says... um Find the Bulgari Palace. For the pit stop of this leg of the race, the last student to check in may be eliminated.
The Amazing Rewatch: and they don't have any trouble finding it they and they - Check in as team number one. And they went a trip to St. Lucia. Their fifth first place win. Yeah, their fifth first place. They're quite a... bit ahead of everyone on this leg because Rachel did it on her first attempt.
The Amazing Rewatch: and then they kind of picked up the Detour pretty quickly. So Vanessa and Ralph choose... clutch it. And...
The Amazing Rewatch: they seem to do okay vanessa vanessa like almost pops a wheelie in rickshaw ah Brendan and Rachel and Art and JJ choose cricket. And then we go back to the...
The Amazing Rewatch: Um. roadblock and see mark's like fourth fifth and sixth attempt Bopper asks him if he's okay. Mark says, no, I'm not okay. And it bopper it like seems like Bopper is going to...
The Amazing Rewatch: tell him that he doesn't have to finish like You know, we'll take the penalty and Mark's like, no, I'll try again. Yeah. And then. ah Back to the detour. Brendan and JJ both get their cricket balls. past the boundary, so...
The Amazing Rewatch: There's Art and Rachel that are hitting the cricket balls at the same time. And... JJ says, art Rachel's never going to get this. Yeah. Rachel's never going to get this. yeah So don't even worry. But it ends up that she gets it first. yeah And...
The Amazing Rewatch: And I was so happy. it like it art is a man and he has like he can do sports and they have they have resentment for us for no reason whatsoever is what she said and it's like Yeah, it's true. There's literally no reason whatsoever.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. I don't know what to sell their beef is with it. They just don't like that Rachel is emotional. Yeah. But she gets things done and... Usually. And she did.
The Amazing Rewatch: past the detour and it doesn't seem like art was like too far behind but um And then Vanessa and Ralph. Finish. The driving task. so Um...
The Amazing Rewatch: yeah we so the way that they edit it is like they show like a ah little picture in picture um Square of like. attempt 9 attempt 10 attempt 11 so they're like all kind of like side by side and it you know the Mark messing up every time.
The Amazing Rewatch: And he doesn't pass. mm -hmm Um, So Bopper is telling Mark to just take the penalty. yeah It's so hot. He does not feel good. Yeah, it's not worth it. Like, you have kids at home, and it's not worth it. And he's like, well, you need the money, and we gotta... And he's like...
The Amazing Rewatch: it's not worth it if you're dead if you have heat stroke or have a heart attack or yeah And. but like Mark really wants to actually finish. So they're going back and forth. and Um,
The Amazing Rewatch: He was like saying, like if it weren't for my kids, I'd have quit by now. And we still might be able to catch up. And it's like, everybody's like. are Basically done with the detour.
The Amazing Rewatch: Well, because, yes, Rachel and Brendan are checking in as team two. Aren't JJ team three there? I think they thought they were last. Yeah. Because they they were at the detour with only Brendan and Rachel and left. left Second. Yeah. but Of two.
The Amazing Rewatch: So they were... relieved and then Vanessa and Ralph climb up to the mat at the same time as them. And they're team number four. So now we just have. Mark and Bopper. And Mark.
The Amazing Rewatch: Does say that he's going to. not do it yeah he's like walking away he's telling his choreographer like no i'm not gonna do it anymore like what does this matter If I...
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. Like if I can't walk my kids down the aisle or go to my kids' baseball games and I was like, that may be a little bit dramatic. I don't think you're actually going to die. yeah But I don't know. I've never had a heat stroke before. so Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um... So, yeah, so they're kind of just like in like this little staging tent and. He's cooling off and he's he took off the outfit so that he can get some air. get us set seriously looks like it's the least breathable yes i'm like do they not What are they doing there in Bollywood? Yeah. Where is Bollywood? Is it like one specific... spot or is it just No, it's like all of India.
The Amazing Rewatch: It's not like Hollywood. No. It's more of just like the term of like movies that are from India. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: So yeah, they're like both getting emotional. And... And... um they you know they the choreographer is coming in and he like kind of gives mark a pep talk and he's like i think you can do it and bopper I must not have been paying close enough attention because I can't remember what.
The Amazing Rewatch: he said but they just you know they talk about like they they need the money we want to do this for their kids and like something just like makes mark change his mind and he does it and he tries it one more time and he passes Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: and the way And when they film it, like... he A couple of mistakes he made. Yeah. He made... mistakes like that before and they didn't pass him. yeah and then He, I mean, everybody's just like. rooting for him right now and cheering for him. And he makes a couple of tiny mistakes.
The Amazing Rewatch: And they do pass him this time. and it's like if you're being that lenient three hours ago right you he could have passed this off like six attempts ago yeah But... Yeah.
