The Amazing Rewatch: And then Brendan and Rachel at 720. are in JJ at 728 and Vanessa and Ralph at 732. And they have $25 for this leg of the race.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. JJ has a cold. Mm hmm. ah But... He says this. clouding his yeah Abilities or something like that. Which totally makes sense. like I'm surprised that more people don't get sick. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: On the race. just That is a lot. For your, like... I know that the word trauma is overused a lot, but but it is kind of trauma on your body to change times like that and like all the physical activities and little sleep and stuff. So yeah, yeah I am surprised that people don't get sick more often. But he says he's going to power through. And speaking of being sick. Mark.
The Amazing Rewatch: From the last episode... was like Just really struggling with the heat. Thinking he maybe had heat stroke. So they have three hours till they have to leave and he's... laying in the bed in the hotel room and he's like hooked up to an ivy with fluids.
The Amazing Rewatch: And he's saying that he's like. He's feeling better. And they're going to leave, but they don't leave for a while. yeah so And when the team start arriving to this temple, the clue there, the first thing that they see when they open it is there is a fast forward.
The Amazing Rewatch: From... Rachel and Dave can't do it because they've already done one. And Art and JJ also cannot do it because they've already done one. Yeah. So when Rachel and Dave open it, it says they said they can't do it. The clue says make your way to.
The Amazing Rewatch: Pat and Cord Mats and Matting. Something like that. and then Brendan and Rachel arrive and they get the They find the... They get the clue. And they say they want to give it a try.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah, they're going to do the fast forward. And all it says, I paused it on the screen, and it just says, engage in a traditional Indian good fortune ritual. Mm -hmm. Which...
The Amazing Rewatch: I don't know. That would be maybe sending off some alarm bells in my head. Mm -hmm But you never know. Yeah. And then for some reason, Vanessa and Ralph arrived before R and JJ. They got a taxi.
The Amazing Rewatch: and First. They said they don't want to try the fast forward. They said, let's play it safe. So they go. move on with the clue and then art and jj arrive and they also cannot do the fast forward because they've done one before Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: And so Brennan and Rachel arrived to the place. And there's like two guys sitting on a mat. in this temple area and there's things in front of them and one of those things is a A note.
The Amazing Rewatch: Well, and also a razor or like a yeah buzz. Buzzer. What do they call him? of Um, shh. Shaver.
The Amazing Rewatch: Razor, a buzzer, a shaver, they all sound wrong. Clippers? Clippers, yeah. I was like, it's there's something. And the clue says... To win the Fast Forward, each of you must have your head shaved.
The Amazing Rewatch: And. It is hilarious because Rachel literally just stares. She looks so sad. She just is like. Doesn't even move. Yeah. She's just staring. me And we get the flashback to when Joyce and Euchenna did this back in... Season... seven?
The Amazing Rewatch: and it's Um, like Uchenna, obviously. shaved her head back then, and Joyce. Yeah, Joyce. Her husband, Yu Chen, already had a shaved head.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yes. And Rachel says she was pretty and skinny and she doesn't need hair to be pretty. And I do. Yeah. I don't want to shave my head. I'd be so sad. I had $500 extensions. Yeah, which are cheap extension extensions.
The Amazing Rewatch: Is that cheap? I've never gotten extended. People are spending like... $1 ,500 on extensions nowadays. Or more. 15 years ago. yeah Um... Yes.

The Amazing Rewatch: very much grief about it. No, he doesn't. No. So Vanessa and Ralph get to the next clue first. they've Do good on there. Navigation. or travel today and it is a roadblock and it says who's at the end of their rope So this this place in India we talked about last week is ah they produce a lot of coconuts. So the task is they have to use the husks of coconuts to spin 40 feet of rope, then spool four large bundles of rope onto one spindle.
The Amazing Rewatch: Ralph is going to do this roadblock. Rachel and Dave arrive. Dave is going to do it. Art is going to do the roadblock. And... Then... Brendan and Rachel arrive.
The Amazing Rewatch: And Brendan's going to do the roadblock and everybody is like... why didn't they do the fast forward? They're just like wondering what's going on. and Rachel's like, I don't really want to talk about it. yeah and jj is mad yeah he's like if mark and bopper get the fast forward then they're gonna beat everybody does anybody have any sense in this place does anybody play this game strategically Nobody thinks around here. Nobody even wants to win this thing. Everybody's lazy. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: Which is confusing me because then he also, like, as the the other... like the people doing the roadblock are kind of like finishing up. JJ's like, I want to, like, try and get in her head. Like, and make her...
The Amazing Rewatch: go back and do the fast forward. And I don't really know what the purpose is here, like... Is it just that he would rather... Rachel and Brendan be in the finals because he doesn't think that they're a strong team, but he just wanted to U -turn them two legs ago.
The Amazing Rewatch: I wanted, I thought he wanted them to be out. I think he just... Wanting them to take it from. Mark and Bopper. Mark and Barbara would be a last place. Cause he said, well,

The Amazing Rewatch: Okay. And then he does say in the little interview thing, like, she is a nice lady. Yeah. It's like you've never said anything nice about her before. Yeah. I don't get it what's Why the change of heart? Yeah. So... During this roadblock, they're pretty neck and neck. They kind of finish the ropes about the same time and finish the...
The Amazing Rewatch: um spool thing about the same time. And. they They all get their hands cut up, though. So, like, when they're, like, cranking the rope onto the spool, it's just like a nail, basically. Yeah. And it's like. cutting their hand open. They're going as fast as they can. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: Awful. Um... At that point, Mark and Bopper leave the pit. The pit stop. Out. 1038. 1038. So they're three hours behind. Yes. bob Mark says.
The Amazing Rewatch: i've drunk I'm feeling a lot better. I've drunk enough water to float a battleship. I missed that part. And. um So they...
The Amazing Rewatch: okay Ralph ends up finishing the roadblock first. And that clue says, make your way to Fort Kochi. Once there, search the area for a barber working under an ancient tree.
The Amazing Rewatch: And so they leave and they're running to their rickshaw. And Vanessa Falls. and starts screaming and it cuts to break or whatever. And she's like laying there and. She has...
The Amazing Rewatch: Skin on her shoulder and arm. That's pretty hard. And she's like, I think I heard a pop. It's the one with the screw in it. Yeah, her ankle. She was like holding her ankle. So it seems like she already had... ankle. problems. And she's like... screaming and ralph's trying to help her and she's like do you think it's broken he's like why i don't know i was in front of you at night and i didn't see it and i don't know what you're feeling stop yelling and But she gets up and she...
The Amazing Rewatch: Keeps going. Kind of limping. um Dave finishes the roadblock, then Art finishes, and Brendan finishes. really closely after. And.
The Amazing Rewatch: um Rachel and Dave end up arriving to the barber first. So it's all kind of just very neck and neck. Yeah, everything's close. They're all kind of passing each other. Yeah, and Vanessa and Ralph are right after. And that clue there is a detour. And the choices are pack a derm or pack a box.
The Amazing Rewatch: In Pachyderm, they have to follow the example and properly decorate an elephant with a golden headdress, bells, and ornaments, then shovel and transport 15 wheel barrels of elephant manure to a nearby truck.
The Amazing Rewatch: And in pack a box, they find the ginger processing center, pick up 10 empty wooden boxes. Fill them with dried ginger. Seal and stencil each box for shipping and deliver them to the shipping depot.
The Amazing Rewatch: And while he's doing this, Phil says that. India is 50 % of the world's spices. Yeah. That's crazy. Yeah. what Yeah. um Well, I choose pachyderm we because you're not really... Asking the elephant to do anything for you. You're just decorating it. Right.
The Amazing Rewatch: And. The other one's really hard. and it seems The other one seems hard, yeah. Not even like... The Amazing Rewatch: ah manual labor so far. So they choose that one. And then Mark and Bopper arrive at the speed bump. and they have to paint a tiger on the belly of a pulakali tiger dancer.
The Amazing Rewatch: So they do that. So this guy, there's a few guys dancing and they don't have their shirts on. A couple of them are dancing. painted like tigers and so they have to follow the guide and paint on the belly of this guy. To make a tiger face. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um, This is another really neck and neck. time the teams that are working on the elephant and decorating it so they have to do the decorations and like get up. on the elephant and pose. with it as a final...
The Amazing Rewatch: product and then they have to go over to the dung pile and do the wheelbarrow thing after. And they're all like neck and neck doing this. And as they're doing this...
The Amazing Rewatch: Vanessa says. I was keeping track of who had how many barrels, wheelbarrows, and there seems to be some discrepancy between their count and mine. They magically went from three to seven.
The Amazing Rewatch: Which I think is so dumb because they have... so people watching the whole time there's people saying okay you're done And Brendan. Watching him move those wheelbarrows, he was... really fast yeah he said that his dad is a bricklayer and he grew up moving wheelbarrows of bricks and he's literally like flying with these wheelbarrows And there's a guy standing at the top counting everybody's wheelbarrows. And when he does the last one, he gives them like a thumbs up and he says he's done. so Vanessa's saying that.
The Amazing Rewatch: really annoyed me and like why would you count why would you even worry about somebody else and not you yeah And she's like, I just. I don't know and She keeps saying, I don't know.
The Amazing Rewatch: yeah Well, if you don't know, don't say anything. yeah It's none of your business. And this will come up again later. I was wondering why It showed that. like Why did, why did they?
The Amazing Rewatch: keep that clip in there of her saying that, but then we find out why. Um, So... Mark and Popper finished their speed bump. Yes. You get the clue and see there's fast forward.
The Amazing Rewatch: And. They're the last team, obviously, but they know that... two of those teams can't do it. Yeah. And. Um... And like, what do they have to lose right at this point? Let's take a chance on it. Let's see. Yeah. you Might as well. And so they go.
The Amazing Rewatch: Okay. And obviously, when they get there and they see that it's a... Head shaving thing. And Mark's head is already bald and Bopper doesn't mind getting his head shaved. And they're like, we don't see any hair on the ground. We know that Rachel and Vanessa weren't going to do this. yeah so So they do it. So yeah, and it's like, oh, they might actually.
The Amazing Rewatch: Have a chance. But the people doing the detours are. moving pretty quickly yeah and it looks like they're finishing up Yes. Well, at least the one side, the elephant detour. Yeah. So Rachel and Dave finished the detour first. And that clue says, take a ferry to the famous.
The Amazing Rewatch: Chena Vala Fishing Nets for the pit stop for this leg of the race. The last team to check in may be eliminated. Yeah. And. So we know they have to get on a ferry. So timing that is... Kind of.
The Amazing Rewatch: And Vanessa and Ralph finish and then Brendan and Rachel finish. Yes. And... Rachel and Dave get there and they get on a ferry and they're just kind of like waiting.
The Amazing Rewatch: and it's not full hurry hurry hurry hurry and dave's like i'm gonna go see if i can pay the guy to leave so he goes over and he's like can i pay you can we leave now and he says yes yeah And as they're like.
The Amazing Rewatch: closing up like the little ramp. Brandon and Rachel like pull up to the yeah the shore and they're like no so they just miss it So then we go over to our and Art and JJ.
The Amazing Rewatch: um working on the ginger detour. And it looks terrible. Yeah, they're regretting their decision. It looks hot. So they have to... Well, first...
The Amazing Rewatch: Well, that we explained it in the description but they have to paint the lid of every box saying something like something something ginger they have a stencil but they have to paint it yeah And then they have to sort all the ginger with this.
The Amazing Rewatch: Like a sieve. A sieve. Makes the small ginger fall out and then dump them in. And then load all the boxes. And weigh them. Yep. And then put the lids on. like secure the lids and then put them on a cart and deliver them Yeah. And so like the boxes have like a.
The Amazing Rewatch: a metal like lip around them and Art cuts his hand really bad, like his pinky. He's like bleeding a lot. Through the leather glove. So...
The Amazing Rewatch: That doesn't seem safe. And they say after the fourth or fifth box, we... I'm thinking that maybe we picked the wrong one, but at this point you can't switch. You just kind of keep going. yeah And then while they're doing it, they're like, let's pass the time. I'll be Dave and you be Rachel.
The Amazing Rewatch: yeah Let's do some roleplay. And Dave says. rachel doesn't do anything she's lazy yeah shut up shut up hurry up back you're not my wife you're my partner yeah you're my running you're my race partner you're not my wife anymore shut up i'm like saying i mean at first i at first i thought they were talking about rachel and brendan because they don't like rachel and brendan yeah no they And I was like,
The Amazing Rewatch: That is not true. Brenda does not talk to Rachel that way. Yeah. But then I was like, oh, Dave and Rachel. Yeah. Okay. like that That makes sense. Yeah. so yeah they're definitely seeing the things that we are seeing as well yeah But Dave and Rachel are team number one. Mm hmm.

It's a little there I think it's their sixth. maybe oh yeah six because they said then they only have one more first place to The record is seven. So they want to put the record tie the record. I have a thing that I have to go to in like a few minutes. So I'm like... better inter internet Um, So then Brendan and Rachel get to the mat and Vanessa and Ralph get to the mat. And they're still standing there and Phil says, i sure production was like, hey, say something about this when they get there.
The Amazing Rewatch: And Phil says, Please tell me I don't have to give any penalties. Yeah. And Vanessa's like... Well... Ralph says, I hope not. Yeah. Like all like.
The Amazing Rewatch: well i hope not and phil's like well what do you mean and vanessa and Vanessa says that, well, one my counting didn't really match their counting. It seemed like they went from three to seven.
The Amazing Rewatch: and vana And Rachel and Brendan are like, what? And Rachel's like, why would you even say that? That's not even good sportsmanship. Why would you even do this on the mat right now? Yeah, like, why are you starting drama?
The Amazing Rewatch: and like brendan is like just trying you know like just let it go you know like just trying to like stop talking but rachel and vanessa just like keep keep going yeah and ralph was trying to get them to stop too you're both the both the guys are and Rachel's like... says, why can't you guys just get along?
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. And. And Rachel's like, she doesn't like my sequins. I laugh at that. And she said, on the very first leg, you were just telling your boyfriend that you could see through my pants and see my butt and laughing at me. And then you tell me that.
The Amazing Rewatch: I need to get my nose done and that made me feel really bad and Vanessa's like well I just said that you should get your nose done before you get your boobs done like laughing I'm like That's not funny. That's just mean and you're not funny. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: And. So they... are saying that and Then Rachel is the first one to say, oh, I'm sorry for the mean things that I said to you. Even though I don't even think she's said anything mean. She's just been emotional and reactive.
The Amazing Rewatch: And Vanessa. I don't think she'd, I think Vanessa actually was first. She's like, I'm sorry about the nose comment. And then Rachel says, I'm sorry about anything that I've said to you. Yeah. But she has to say it like that. I'm sorry about anything I've said to you too. Because she hasn't even said anything.
The Amazing Rewatch: Vanessa's line has done everything. Rachel's just reacting to it emotionally, which is... because she's been saying rude things to her and they like shake hands and she's like i don't want to hug you and she's like that's okay i don't want to hug you either yeah we smell like cow manure yeah or not cow elephant manure So, apparently, it's, like, behind them, but...
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. I'm like... And Phil even says like, are you done now? Yeah. but And Vanessa, or he's like, it seems like you just don't like to let things go, Vanessa. Yeah. And she's like smiling. She's like, yeah. yeah I like to have the last word.
The Amazing Rewatch: And I don't think it's funny or cute. I think you're being a mean girl. Yeah. It's not. i don't know maybe in 2012, that was... more attractive in a person, but it's not now.
The Amazing Rewatch: So... Art and JJ are finishing up their detour. And. Mark and Bobber had finished their fast forward.
The Amazing Rewatch: And. So they're both on their way to the pit stop. This is how the editing looks. And Art and JJ are in a rickshaw. And Mark mark and Bopper are in a taxi.
The Amazing Rewatch: And so they're thinking, and then Art and JJ get stuck behind this yeah traffic that's like. A vehicle that's stuck on this small street and stuff like that. So it looks like it could be anybody's game the way they edit it.
The Amazing Rewatch: But team number four ends up being... Art and JJ. So that means team number five are Mark and Bopper and they are eliminated. Yep. and they they said we gave it everything we had including taking off my hair I thought it was funny that they even like pretended to shave Mark's head. Like, yeah there is not one.
The Amazing Rewatch: hair on that head what are you doing bringing out those clippers what was it a good luck ritual or something yeah good fortune so maybe just like going through the motions yeah yeah but we get like a fun little montage of like their experience and they say that they're proud of what they have done and grateful to have like seen the world they probably just don't get to travel. End.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um. They said that they made a promise that they're going to leave for the race as friends and come home as friends. Yeah. That's nice. yeah They seem, I mean, they had.
The Amazing Rewatch: they had personalities for sure and they weren't like a hundred percent Friends. i mean not They were 100 % friends, but they weren't like... so nice to each other all the time it seems like they're just comfortable with each other they know each other yes and They have a rapport. But they were always.
The Amazing Rewatch: respectful and and cared but about each other like mark was worried about bopper's knee and bopper was worried about mark getting heat stroke and they you know like they were supportive and And...
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. And we are sad to see them go because... Of everybody that's left, I'm like... Meh. Yeah. Right. This is this final four. It's like. I mean, I want Brendan and Rachel to win.
The Amazing Rewatch: that they're my favorite of the final four they've been some of my favorite the whole time yeah but the other ones i'm like you guys have all given me like a bad taste of all of you You're all kind of mean. And.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah, not very good sportsmanship. And.

The Amazing Rewatch: So this episode's fast forward is a switchback. to one previously seen in So Rhea. Amazing Race 7, which we talked about. This is the second time.
The Amazing Rewatch: Last time was in... uh i mean season three that a team won the fast forward but still came in last place Hmm. The first time since season four that there were more than two fast forwards available on the race.
The Amazing Rewatch: First time a team has performed a fast forward and a speed bump in the same league. Oh. And yeah, so there was lots of interesting things about that. And this episode title is set by Rachel Riley.

The Amazing Rewatch: i I want to guess Japan, and then... I'm pretty sure that Las Vegas is the final city. Because I remember Rachel saying that she worked in Vegas and she was like. Confident. Okay.
The Amazing Rewatch: Well, now we know Rachel doesn't get eliminated in the next leg. Well, sorry. Did you think she would? No. Um, Do you have time to tell us about Mark and Popper? um Yes, super quick.
The Amazing Rewatch: they ah They both have social media, but Mark... Um... I mean Bopper hasn't posted in a while. He just has like pictures. It looks like he has.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um. A grandkid. So it's just like some pictures of his family. um Mark posts a little bit more often. He is... Um.
The Amazing Rewatch: I think he's ran for Clay County Jailer like four times. Like he runs like every four years and doesn't win. But there's like pictures going back to like 2014 that says like vote for Mark Jackson for Clay County Jailer.
The Amazing Rewatch: And then like this most recent election cycle. He like posted a lot and. and He was like, you know, I didn't win. I'll run again in four years. And a lot of people are like, we need you. We trust you.
The Amazing Rewatch: Whatever, whatever. Would you want that job? I don't know. I was looking about um information about Clay County because they have talked about like how it's really poor, poor place. So the unemployment rate in Clay County is between 33 and 39%. Holy cow. And the national average is like. 12 to 16.
The Amazing Rewatch: So it's like double. That's crazy. It's like... 95 % white. Hmm.
The Amazing Rewatch: and Yeah. I don't know just What? Maybe this is a stereotype, but when you think of like the poor counties, you think of more of like. you know, like more diversity, like white and black and Hispanic and, you know. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: And... I was reading something the other day that was like... poor southern poor is different than poor anywhere else or like appalachian poor is different yes poor anywhere else and We see them again, right?
The Amazing Rewatch: Well, kind of, because they are set to come back for... Um, like the next all -star season, however. bopper was not able to do it like last minute because of like a medical issue so mark gets paired up with mallory do you remember Oh. Mallory from Gary and Mallory because she's from Kentucky too. Yeah. So they called her in last minute to be Mark's partner.
