Introduction and Change in Content

00:00:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Welcome to the Daily Newcastle podcast. It's well called Wednesday, but there's been a change. We have to be honest with our listeners. This was going to be, especially for the American. This is going to be special. It's going to be like an NFL episode, but we're going to put that on hold because we've got a super sub who knows absolutely nothing about the NFL, but he's probably the most knowledgeable on our whole team. I'm going to introduce the super sub first.

Special Guest: Ian Mackay

00:00:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I was super sober Lewis Miley, also known as Ian Mackay. Ian, how are you doing?
00:00:39
Iain
I am doing very well. Thank you, Kevin. No problem stepping in to spend a lovely half hour with my two black and white chums.
00:00:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:00:48
Iain
And by the way, if you were doing the NFL back in the early 90s, then I would have been super knowledgeable. However, however, I'm a little bit out of date, you know.
00:00:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, well we'll save that one for the the Wednesday before the Super Bowl, and because I think Nick can make it back.
00:00:56
Iain
ah
00:01:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
But Ian, as always, it's just a pleasure to have you on the show. And then...
00:01:08
Iain
Shucks.
00:01:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ooh, shucks.
00:01:11
Iain
anyone just and ah yeah Anyone just listening on the podcast and not watching on YouTube won't be able to see that I am blushing.
00:01:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Look at me, Ian, having a bromance. Just make me have a blush on camera. um
00:01:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ian is my...
00:01:23
Jo
I think you really are.
00:01:23
Iain
My my cheeks my cheeks are redder than a newborn baby's bottom.
00:01:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, I'm glad you're talking about your normal cheeks and not any other cheeks. um My other guest my guest is Joe. You can tell which episode is going to go. Joe, you make up the original OG 3 as we keep calling ourselves or excluding the other guys.
00:01:45
Jo
It is all the better for seeing my OG pals.
00:01:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
How are you doing this week, Joe?
00:01:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, but oh, jeez, I'm back.
00:01:52
Jo
Happy
00:01:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, it is wildcard winter.

Wildcard Winter Theme: Premier League Picks

00:01:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, of course, we've got to have fun, right? So, there's no NFL episode, but keep a listen for that one in a couple of weeks' time if anybody is really interested, especially our American listeners and that.
00:02:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
But we are going to pick a team now. We can pick one player from each Premier League team, which isn't in the so-called Big 7. Now, the Big 7 is obviously Newcastle United, number but one.
00:02:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, my new Spurs. I think, is that but so the top seven? You know who the top seven are.
00:02:24
Jo
Apparently.
00:02:25
Iain
and live and Liverpool.
00:02:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
In Liverpool, yes, we can't pick any Liverpool players.
00:02:27
Jo
Oh yeah.
00:02:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
So that gives us 13 teams to choose from. So we can pick 11 players from 13 teams, but we cannot pick more than one player from the same team. And we have to make up a whole team. Now, the reason we're doing this mainly because it's a last minute backup for the NFL episode, but also anybody who works for Newcastle, listen to this. There is still 10 days left of the transfer window. So if you want to bring any of these players in,
00:02:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Listen to all reasons for picking them and you can sign them for Newcastle United this month.
00:02:54
Jo
this is
00:02:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think the best way to go is we'll just go through position by position. We do have different formations so we'll start with that and we also want to hear any listeners kind of teams, choices, comment on Spotify, comment on YouTube, comment anywhere you listen or watch us and we'll see if you know a little bit more than us.
00:03:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right, formations. Joe's obviously going 4-4-2, am I right Joe?
00:03:22
Jo
You're spot on, it's my favourite.
00:03:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Brilliant. Ian being the absolute tactical magnificent. I have zero idea what it goes for here.
00:03:30
Iain
I was going to take a leaf out of Eddie Howe's book. I don't mean I'm going 5-5-0, like against Arsenal.
00:03:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
coal Oh, I'm going four, two, three, one.
00:03:37
Iain
I'm going 4-3-3 Kev.
00:03:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
So lots of different formations, but it's all a bit of fun. Right. Start with goal keepers and we will go beauty before age. I've used that one before. I'm using it again.
00:03:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we're going to win. ah um Ian, who is your goalkeeper from any of the other 13 teams?
00:03:57
Jo
and you' just doing that
00:04:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
You can only pick one person from his club. Who are you picking?
00:04:08
Iain
I think I've got a good goalkeeper because I've missed out the outfield players that you two will have in your team from that. I've gone for Flecken from Brentford.
00:04:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, who have I picked from? Have I picked a Brentford player? Yes, I have. I was checking. out I was like, no way have I left Brentford. That's not a good start. Second is a very good goalkeeper.
00:04:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's a good choice.
00:04:29
Iain
Flecken was excellent in the in the cup match that we won 3-1 But I've I saw him there I Saw him against Newcastle at Brentford, right?
00:04:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:04:39
Iain
So I saw him twice and I've watched him since then he is a very good goalie He's not even first choice with for Holland um But a super goalkeeper
00:04:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:04:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's a great choice. However, I'm amazed that you go with no Brentford outfield players. We have some ballers. Um, speaking of not Holland's number one, I don't know if mine is Holland's number one, but he's also a Dutch and he's also a very good goalkeeper. I'm going from Brighton. I'm going with the Bruggen. He's my goalkeeper. Um, there is lots of Brighton players. I wanted to pick. I'm not going to see any of them cause I don't want to pinch your no Brighton players, but The Bruggen for me is just, he's young, he's Dutch, he would help keep Botman there for a while and him and Botman I feel like could have a really good connection.
00:05:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
and So yeah, my goalkeeper is the Bruggen. So we've got the Bruggen, Flecken, Joe, round us off

Defensive Lineups with Surprising Choices

00:05:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
with a goalkeeper. is Who are you picking for your team out of the other 13 teams?
00:05:30
Jo
um um i'll be honest i probably would have wanted well i did want a different keeper i won't lie i'm not saying my keep was bad but i did mine in reverse order
00:05:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Not picking them up here, Joe. You're not with them this round.
00:05:40
Jo
well No I don't really want to win it because I'll be honest I filled out my outfield players first and so I kind of ran out of teams who I could then pick a keeper from oh obviously when I had about three left but ah I think he's all right I mean I went for Ariza Belaga from Bournemouth so it's you know is he's a keeper he is I know I'm being mean in there but my point is it's just because I did want quite a few others but I'd already filled out my outfield team so I kind of left myself
00:05:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Pickford.
00:06:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's a good keeper actually, I do like him.
00:06:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm amazed you haven't picked a bomb. I'm amazed you haven't picked one for your bomb player.
00:06:13
Jo
Well, you know how many times I changed before we started recording, man? See ya.
00:06:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow.
00:06:18
Iain
stock with the Chelsea fans is very, very low. I think he must have had a ropey time at some stage and lost his place.
00:06:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, he refused to if refused to come off in the Cup final, didn't he, but then saved the penalties to win it, so, yeah.
00:06:25
Iain
That's why he's at Bournemouth now.
00:06:29
Jo
Yeah, I remember that.
00:06:30
Iain
Oh, attitude, Joe, your team's going to have your team's going to be really disrupted by internal wrangling.
00:06:32
Jo
True.
00:06:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:06:39
Iain
I can see it.
00:06:40
Jo
Just moving from the start.
00:06:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
let's say let's Let's stick with Joe for, I think we've all got a back four, so we'll stick with Joe's. Joe, just go through your full back four, yeah, and the team's very grateful.
00:06:50
Jo
full back for right it is a bit of a people are just gonna get told to play where they're getting told to play just being honest um Joe's just having a mad night I'll be honest well I was all prepared for the NFL special and I get home from my exercise class and I'm thrown in the deep end with five minutes to go and i have to put together this team
00:06:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, those teams had a nightmare started to go and keep what she doesn't want and now I'm just playing people out of position.
00:07:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
them um nicola
00:07:10
Jo
um a ah I'll give you it. It's not too bad to be fair. I've got um left back Munoz and right back Wanda Sake with...
00:07:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
So and West Ham all the way.
00:07:23
Jo
That's right. And then I've got Torkowski and Aynia from Forest. Aynia? I can't say his name.
00:07:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ina sent a half, he's a right back.
00:07:30
Iain
ah
00:07:31
Jo
He's a right footed center half in my team.
00:07:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's a right back!
00:07:36
Jo
That's where he's being told to play and it's crafted well for us.
00:07:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hang on, you're picking a forest at a half and do not pick it you're not picking...
00:07:41
Jo
He's a full back.
00:07:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
not picking Merino.
00:07:45
Jo
Look, don't stop.
00:07:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
He could have had Merino as a forest at a half and you picked a right back.
00:07:47
Jo
I don't.
00:07:47
Iain
It's all right.
00:07:51
Jo
Well, I'll put him in a set.
00:07:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, no confidence in me.
00:07:55
Jo
I told you I'm having a man.
00:07:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
The old noise just messed up.
00:07:59
Jo
I was all prepped for the NFL thing.
00:07:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
So you've got one more set of right back.
00:08:01
Jo
like
00:08:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
You've got Munoz from Palace left back. You've got Murillo from Forest, who's a very good centre-half, right centre-half.
00:08:06
Jo
Which is a good show. I love him, yeah.
00:08:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
And who's your other centre-half?
00:08:11
Jo
Tarkowski.
00:08:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Tarkowski from Everton, right. So you can't use any more of them them teams or or players from them teams.
00:08:16
Jo
That's fine.
00:08:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it's an okay back four. Now I'll give you a little nudge of Murillo instead of their right back playing centre-half, which makes zero sense.
00:08:19
Jo
It's all right. Thanks. Thanks.

Midfield Selections and Strategies

00:08:25
Jo
People get told where they get told to play in my team.
00:08:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Right, Joe is going to be an Alex Ferguson type manager. She will throw boots at them if they do not play where they are supposed to play.
00:08:31
Jo
I will.
00:08:33
Iain
She's definitely got a hair dryer. I haven't got a hair dryer so I couldn't do the Alex Ferguson treatment.
00:08:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right, Ian. I'm really intrigued to hear this back form.
00:08:42
Iain
i
00:08:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ian's ball knowledge is impressive.
00:08:43
Iain
my my first My first name in the back four Sorry, my second name in a back four was Marillo. Playing alongside him is Huishin, who was absolutely had alec Alex Ezak in his pocket for the entire afternoon on Saturday.
00:08:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, from BOMB!
00:09:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, he's very young as well.
00:09:05
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:09:07
Iain
nineteen He's he's 19 and he cost 15 million euros.
00:09:07
Jo
So about 19, wasn't he? Yeah, I was reading about him the other day.
00:09:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:09:12
Jo
He's gonna be a star.
00:09:13
Iain
Do you hear that, Paul Mitchell? Do you hear that? 15 million euros.
00:09:16
Jo
Hahaha.
00:09:18
Iain
Honestly, you've only got to sell about a Weekends Weather a shirt.
00:09:19
Jo
Bargain.
00:09:22
Iain
And then at full back, at full back, I've got Dina from Aston Villa.
00:09:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's a good fullback.
00:09:31
Iain
Down the left.
00:09:31
Jo
Yes.
00:09:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow, your Villa players, didn't you?
00:09:34
Iain
And Tarek Lamptey from Brighton as a right, right back.
00:09:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Brighton. Okay, so you've got Brighton right back, Dinnier, Villa left back, you've got Bournemouth centre-half and Forest centre-half, so you've used them teams as well.
00:09:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow.
00:09:50
Iain
that's right
00:09:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
this is a I'm really intrigued to hear your outfield like the rest of your team because I thought there was some absolute guarantees from some of them teams you'd be putting in wing and like wing positions on number 10, so I'm um i'm really intrigued.
00:09:51
Iain
That's right.
00:10:01
Iain
but i'm dying I was trying to have a different team to what what you and our listeners our listeners would be expecting because I think I picked some good players that maybe go overlooked a lot of the time.
00:10:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
What we expected.
00:10:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nice.
00:10:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, perfect. That's what we want. That's what we but we're here to identify as Ian was just shouting at them, Mr. Mitchell, we're here to identify some potential signings for our team. and Okay, my back for I went with South Hamptons right back, Kyle Walker Peters.
00:10:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've always quite liked him and he's a good little one. I don't really have any other Southampton players. I like that much other than Solomona, but he's a winger and there's a couple of wingers in my team. I just would love at Newcastle. So Cal Walter Peters is my right back. Emerson from West Ham is my left back. Champions League winner, um Italian international, great left foot. I quite like him. I've always quite liked Emerson. I don't know why. Soft spot for him since he was a Chelsea. Two centre-halves. This will cause some I don't know. I've went to the Barney from Bournemouth rather than house him.
00:10:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just feel like Zabani is getting voted for Real Madrid.
00:10:59
Iain
All right.
00:11:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's a fan. He looked great against us as well.
00:11:03
Iain
I know the pair of them.
00:11:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Him and Huyson were fantastic, so you could have had either of them. But I've went Zabani instead. and And I've went Mark Gahey from Palace. I know he hasn't had the best season, but I don't know how much of that is down to the Lynx with us.
00:11:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Did he have his heart set on us and his head's not at Palace anymore and he's just had a bit of a dodgy season. But I still went with him. I still think he's a fantastic player. I don't think he'll end up in Newcastle anymore. There's Lynx now with for Liverpool.
00:11:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Going back to Chelsea potentially, so I see them links quite a bit now um for a free transfer, but i'd I'd still think he's a great player. So I've got Southampton, Bournemouth, Palace and West Ham with Walker, Peters, Zabarni, Gahy and Emerson.
00:11:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right, where's our back fives done?
00:11:43
Iain
Very good.
00:11:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
We've used some very good teams. I've used Brighton and Bournemouth, I guess people might not be expecting in Southampton. and and others too. Right, time for our first advert, almost bang halfway through and we'll come back for the rest of our team.
00:11:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Joe, Zencaster Queen, it can only be you for this advert. It's all down to you.
00:12:04

Global Sports Podcast Network
Brilliant. Lovely stuff. Lovely stuff. And just for the listeners, we'll go through our whole teams at the end, just in case you were a bit lost. And then we'll have like a whole recap of our full 11. Right.
00:12:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Um, I'm going to go to Ian first, um, for his, for his three, four, three, three.
00:12:41
Iain
Hello.
00:12:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
So he's got three midfielders. So let's just hear Ian's three midfielders.
00:12:50
Iain
It'll be set up with a holding midfielder and two attacking midfielders in front of them.
00:12:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:12:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
I like it realistic.
00:12:57
Iain
Very attack a team. so I've gone on the left, Paquetta, on the right, Cunha, and holding in midfield Sander Burge from Leicester, who was fantastic when he played at Sheffield United.
00:13:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
who
00:13:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
well
00:13:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
I did not expect that.
00:13:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
he was He was brilliant at Sheffield United in the Premier League.
00:13:20
Iain
Really good. it was it was but He was, he was, was, He was very often fighting a one-man battle against the ah Premier League attacks last year, but I thought he was i thought he was good.
00:13:31
Iain
I haven't seen much of him playing for Leicester to be fair, but he gets in ah getting in on an on so on his story.
00:13:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:13:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Yeah, I agree. I think he's a great player. I tell you who has impressed me for Leicester and I can't but believe I'm seeing this because I thought he was another sideways, backwards, Detland race, but when he was fit at the start of a season, he really impressed us from Leicester. It was Harry Winx.
00:13:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
He actually, like, he started a move off on the edge of his own box, ended up dribbling past, like, obviously it was about eight passes in between, gets a ball left wing, dribbles past two him and then puts a cross in Vivaldi and I was like, that's not the same Harry Winks ass off, I suppose. And it was, so he he impressed me before he got injured this season, so he he couldn't even have Winks in there, but I agree.
00:14:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
bo ah Berger Berger, Sander Burge, I'm not sure how we pronounce it, but he's a very, very good player. Good, that's a solid, that's a very good midfield three, to be fair. A lot of skill, a little bit of class, a little bit of flair, and then the the physicality of them ah Sander as well, fair play.
00:14:27
Iain
I think we're going to have to play most of the game in the opposition's half with pick Piketa and Junior with three attacking players in front of them, but there you go.
00:14:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't have a Holden player, so my team's gonna get ripped apart as well, but we'll see where we're at. Joe, you've got four midfielders, so why don't we go with um your four, and then I'll do my kinda three with a four, two, three, one.
00:14:53
Jo
Cool. Well, on the right, I've got a one that we have all discussed and I would absolutely really love Newcastle, but I'll be honest, and he was ripe to be Murphy's Understudy.
00:15:04
Jo
and ble more So, obviously,
00:15:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
this study ah No, no, no, no, no,
00:15:10
Jo
come on. it It's Prime Murphy right now, man. As soon as Prime Murphy ends, Imbuema will be there, ready to take the slot, just beautifully. It's all gonna work out well, I'm telling you.
00:15:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
right midfield and no,
00:15:22
Jo
So we have Imbuema from Benford, yeah. I've got Metoma on the left, from Brighton, obviously. And in the middle, I've got Rogers from Villa, and Ioobi from Fulham.
00:15:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
i will be that's his jolly pronunciation i read alex i will be right that'll
00:15:39
Iain
Aye.
00:15:40
Jo
I will be. I will be.
00:15:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
make if that doesn't what if that doesn't make him want to come with you because i don't know what weather he's getting called i will be
00:15:51
Jo
e
00:15:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Um, that's again, a who's your two second midfielder? Oh, I will be in Rogers fair play. You know what? I'm just going to follow straight on. Cause I've got a will be in Rogers as my two in my four, two, three, one. I must admit the listeners are still Rogers. I originally had cons or as a center half and I had Adam Wharton.
00:16:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
from Palace, but when I've put Gahy from Palace, then I've i' stole Rogers because Rogers is a really good player.
00:16:14
Jo
You did.
00:16:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I'll be honest, it was Joe's influence. I've got Rogers and a Wobi.
00:16:18
Jo
but
00:16:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, sorry. I Wobi as he's now with Jordy.
00:16:21
Jo
I will be.
00:16:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
When you Jordy Nigerian, it's exactly what we need since shoulders left.
00:16:26
Jo
It is.
00:16:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
and And then my number 10, I'll just give my three to kind of match Ian. So my number 10 and my four, two, three, one is somebody Ian's already picked. It's Konya. Konya's playing behind my striker as a number 10.
00:16:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just love Konya. I know when we played Wolves and it was a comfortable win in the end, but he came off the bench. He had like two half chances. He got past Botman. turning on the ball, running a bit of defence, and I thought, oh, I'd love him at Newcastle under Eddie Howe. I'd love to see him. So, Konye was one of the first ones on my team sheet. I thought, Wolves, Konye, it can only be. I like Ate Norrie, and but I like Emerson has left back as well, so that's my three. and Right, so that was, for me, that was West Ham, Fulham and Wolves.
00:17:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, it wasn't. It was Villa, Fulham and Wolves. Got Rogers. No, it doesn't play for West Ham. Right, Ian, we'll go. Your wing is when my wing is and then we'll go through strikers altogether. We'll start with Joe Stryker. So your wing is Ian and your 4-3-3.
00:17:30
Iain
From Crystal Palace, Eze, down the left.
00:17:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, he's a great player, but I picked Keihi.
00:17:36
Iain
um And down the right, controversially, but I mean, head and shoulders above.
00:17:36
Jo
Yeah, I know.
00:17:44
Iain
And just ah just further up the pitch from your right back, I want dibbling from Southampton,

Wingers and Versatility Discussion

00:17:50
Iain
because I've been really, really impressed with his start.
00:17:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, he has had a fantastic season. That is a brilliant choice. I'm genuinely like, what's the word I'm looking for?
00:18:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Intrigued is the word i'm looking for I'm genuinely, I'm not drunk, I've got a dudgy ear infection, I can hardly hear you anything.
00:18:04
Iain
Drunk?
00:18:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm genuinely intrigued to to hear what listeners think of that one because Diblin was slightly linked with us, but he's had a fantastic start this season in a poor team as well. And he's young, imagine what how could do with him.
00:18:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
So that
00:18:21
Iain
there's a There's a lot of hope that he will come to Newcastle, Kevin, because we saw him as a 15-year-old score a hat-trick for the under-23s, or a 16-year-old, and had a really good chat with him.
00:18:34
Iain
And he wouldn't come. He went to Chelsea, I think, not me personally.
00:18:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
but the chat
00:18:39
Iain
you cut Newcastle were chatting him up to get him to sign.
00:18:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh
00:18:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
right
00:18:43
Iain
um And he went to he went to Chelsea. but he didn't like it in London, so then he's gone back to Southampton now. But we have got connections. If we kept talking to him and encouraging him, he'd be realising what a terrible mistake he made going to Chelsea.
00:18:56
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:18:58
Iain
He's gone back home to Southampton, but he wants to be in a team going forward somewhere, doesn't he? So I think we're leading the race for him in the summer.
00:19:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
imagine him under any hell that could be the
00:19:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
That could be the best shout of the episode so far.
00:19:10
Jo
Yeah.
00:19:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
That is hi brilliant. and So, who was your left winger again, Ian?
00:19:18
Iain
as a I can't say his first name England winger
00:19:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Eze from Palace, Eberichie, Eze. My two wingers in my 4-2-3-1, I've got Cunhae as my 10. I've got Embuemo right, so same as Joe, I'm playing him as like an inside right winger again.
00:19:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
He had an injury like plagued season a couple of seasons ago, but since then he just went from strength to strength. And what I'm really impressed with him with them. Well, more is since Tony's left, he stepped up as almost the main guy and to be able to have the confidence and the ability to do that is very impressive. And my left winger won't surprise anybody who's listened to any of the last four episodes I've been on. I've mentioned them a about eight times. It is a Langer from Forest. and I just love the idea of his pace.
00:20:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
I love the idea of how young years came through, I think it was Mayanite, it's academy, so he's got a bit of pedigree there. I love the idea of him under Eddie Howe, but I'm tempted if I didn't have Kyle Walker Peters and I asked a young or somebody right back, get Diblin from Ian, put him on my right wing and have a Langer on me.
00:20:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Imagine a Langer in Diblin, whoa. Anyway, I've got Embuero Cunha in a Langer with my three.
00:20:21
Iain
can i is Is Alanga known as a versatile player because I am sure every time I've watched Alanga I've seen him going down the right and it was him who tortured Dan Byrne last boxing day or year past boxing day when Forest 131 at St James's wasn't it?
00:20:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, he can play both.
00:20:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:20:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's right footed. He can play both, so he plays sometimes as an inside forward on my left, but he can play as like an out and out winger where he hugs a touchdown on my right. He can play both sides. so Again, that's another reason why I love him.
00:20:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think when we did a transfer, I think it was us three did the transfer one at the start of a window. And I said, a Langer would be my number one pick. So yeah, he's, he's a player I just love.
00:20:58
Iain
No.
00:21:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
um So I've got a Langer in him. But M2 could swap, couldn't you? As well as my four, two, three, couldn't you could kind of drift out wide and one of them could come in as a 10, but yeah, there we go. Right.
00:21:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's go through strikers. We're going to come with Joe. Joe's got two strikers, me and Ian only have one. and So, Joe, you get the goal first. Who were your two centre forwards? Actually, scrap that, advert, almost forgot, almost got told off.
00:21:25
Iain
Oh!
00:21:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll come back for the strikers. Almost got told off by our bosses. Right, very quick advert from the legend that is Ian Mackay and then we'll be back for our strikers. Let's go Ian.
00:21:36
Iain
know from the From the leg end himself. ah The Global Sports Podcast Network is changing the face of football podcasting with dedicated daily content for every Premier League team, for women's football, a dedicated Premier League wrap-up in five different languages and many more things.
00:21:57
Jo
but
00:21:57
Iain
This is your one stop shop for your daily football fix. Find the GSPN wherever you find your usual podcasts.
00:22:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
He even adds his own part and into his adverts written by our bosses.
00:22:11
Iain
That's because I'm telling you that first paragraph makes no grammatical sense unless you finish the sentence off.
00:22:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
He also slits our bosses for writing adverts.
00:22:17
Iain
It's not a sentence.
00:22:20
Iain
Not a sentence.
00:22:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
brilliant hey do you know all right for a backup episode i'm enjoying this and to be honest i don't know if i sound monotone for a change i can't hear myself i've literally got my righty is completely gone if anybody's thinking why does kev sound so weird on this episode my righty is completely gone i can't hear anything i've got to wait till saturday to get it syringed and i've got no idea what's happening with fd but i can't hear anything either so i just sound like i'm underwater to myself so i hope okay
00:22:46
Iain
Well I can ah could see a picture of you Kev and know that your left ear and your right ear are both keeping your cap on your head. So they're doing a good job.
00:22:55
Jo
yeah
00:22:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're doing the job for now. We're doing the job for now. Right. Just where we almost jumped in without giving out the advertisements we're supposed to do. The one job we have as a host is to get the adverts and I almost feel that that as well. It's a tough week. It's a tough week. Right. do Who are your two strikers then? Let's go. Remember you can't pick any player from any of the teams you've already picked and you've got two with a good old fashioned 4-4-2.

Striker Selections and Young Talent

00:23:21
Jo
ah have I mean I could have also had this as like a well your formations of four two three one and you'll understand the second light when I say this so well yeah because I've got to lap who would be my striker in that formation but I've got to lap and Kanye as my strikers so in four four two he's gonna shoehorn as an actual striker whereas as a four two three one I would play him as a ten but anyway they're my two
00:23:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
i
00:23:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Cunha.
00:23:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
So Cunha could drop in.
00:23:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
You could even play a 4-4-1-1 when you're defending. You've got a lot more versatility with us. Me and Ian's midfield is just attacking like that.
00:23:49
Jo
I can do what I want basically. cause like Like Ian said, I'm going all fergie on this.
00:23:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:23:54
Jo
so These guys will play where they're told to play, when they're told to play.
00:23:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:23:58
Jo
but yeah um that's This is why we don't get the big jobs, but it's alright because I'm not one of those women that demand them either.
00:23:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's women for you folks, that's women, we just do what we're told as men.
00:24:05
Jo
so There we go people.
00:24:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
this this getting wow this has took a turn for wild cordwin
00:24:10
Jo
It's getting juicy.
00:24:12
Iain
Well, Joanne, I'm going to take a leaf out of your book and I'm going to play Jordan Pickford at Centreford and I don't care. That is a goalkeeper. I'm just going to make him bloody pay there.
00:24:23
Iain
It'll make him look even more, even more stupid than he looks most weeks.
00:24:23
Jo
There we go Ian, that's the attitude.
00:24:28
Iain
andt know I know.
00:24:28
Jo
Do you know how much these guys get paid? If they get told to play somewhere, they're gonna goddamn play somewhere, right?
00:24:32
Iain
I know.
00:24:34
Iain
The thing is that Pickford is so arrogant, he'd probably think he'd do a good job up there.
00:24:38
Jo
It'll bounce off his backside in the goal, it'll be fine.
00:24:38
Iain
Anyway,
00:24:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
a yeah What is happening?
00:24:42
Iain
He's got an nice got a less chance of handling the ball than most centre forwards though, because his arms are miles away from his feet, aren't My real choice is is far duller than that, because like Johan, I've been very impressed with Yung Dalap at Ipswich and he was my he was leading my line.
00:24:49
Jo
He'll never reach it.
00:24:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Never get a handball. Anybody watching who just saw what Joe did, by the way, get back from up to create some memes and send it to us.
00:25:13
Iain
So in fact with Cunha as one of the attacker midfielders, I've kind of got the same forward line as you guys have.
00:25:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Everybody's joined in my 4-2-3-1 quiz. I'm a trendsetter, finally. I'm finally a trendsetter. It's worked. and Well, actually, you know what? It's a full house for Dilap.
00:25:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's clearly impressed a lot of people. He's my striker as well. He's he's the one from Ipswich Way. And I'm trying to think now, have I just put him in because there's no other Ipswich players I want?
00:25:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't think that's the case.
00:25:42
Iain
I do.
00:25:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
I genuinely think.
00:25:44
Jo
but I was gonna say I did.
00:25:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
till one walking um I just think I just think in terms of how young he is again I always I love the idea of what how could do with some players not that's kind of a one of the main reasons I've been a little bit disappointed what we haven't brought in any kind of first team transfers for the last two main windows because Look what the house done with Lewis Hall. Like, come on. None of us really saw that. And we all thought Lewis Hall was going to be a good player, but we are all majorly impressed with him. Look what he's done with Dan Byrne. I know he's not a young player, but again, how he's transformed him into, you know, just an absolute colossal center half. So I'd be really excited to see what Hal would do if someone liked the lap, especially when look at what he did with Callum Wilson and Bournemouth.
00:26:28
Iain
Is that not an argument for you not to cash in on Lloyd Kelly, even if it is an event that's going after him?
00:26:29
Jo
yeah True.
00:26:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, this is this is something I said on on yesterday's pod with the Michael. I said we haven't seen the best of him. I think he could be the next Dan Byrne in terms of he can play left back, centre half, he's tall, quite good with his feet.
00:26:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
and But yeah, that's it's really interesting. And again, let's just update the listeners.
00:26:53
Iain
um i think ah thinkha well I think we have seen
00:26:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Juventus are now interested in him. It's not Milan anymore, whoever it was, it's Juventus.
00:27:00
Iain
I think we have seen enough of him to know that actually he's better with a ball at his feet than Danburn. you know He was doing a a Fabian Shah impersonation earlier in the season where there were some diagonal balls that were actually landing at the feet of the winger.
00:27:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
It was.
00:27:14
Iain
So yeah, I'm not sure, but there again, if it comes to having having a gun to your head and you've got to sell Miley to not get a points deduction come the 30th of June, I'd rather have that completely out of the out of the question by
00:27:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:27:29
Jo
a Yeah.
00:27:29
Iain
by selling some of these players that but get us the right money.
00:27:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah To be fair, the I think the tempting part with Kelly is it's tough profitability, isn't it? We we bought them for nothing.
00:27:37
Iain
Yeah, absolutely.
00:27:37
Jo
yeah
00:27:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, you sell them for what, 15 million? that's That's going to help big time with those.
00:27:42
Iain
Well, I've been here and we're we're holding out for 30 million euros.
00:27:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think that's playing a little bit of hardball.
00:27:48
Jo
Surely not.
00:27:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think that's, I think that's Newcastle owners being a little bit here ambitious, which I like, but yeah.
00:27:49
Iain
Yeah.
00:27:50
Jo
That's crazy.
00:27:54
Iain
Yeah, well, if you then just think we want 25 million quid, but the bid 15 because they knew they had to beat the Fenabachi bid, then why not? Why not?

Team Recaps and Honorable Mentions

00:28:04
Iain
They'll meet us in the middle and we've got 20 million in for them.
00:28:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
meet in the middle yeah meet in the middle right let's recap our teams um we're gonna go through the whole team each and you're gonna say the the players name and the team just to make sure ah but we haven't picked any players twice all right so if you have been listening and you've been writing them down you've been wasting your time because we're gonna recap now with all the teams um so
00:28:06
Jo
Yeah.
00:28:17
Jo
Mmhmm.
00:28:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Joe, let's have you go first. Let's have you go first. So the name of the player, um if you want to chuck in the position, you can. And the clubs they play for.
00:28:38
Jo
Cool. So, I raise a bell I get, yeah. I shouldn't i should that one.
00:28:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Kepa. Yep.
00:28:43
Jo
Exactly.
00:28:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
This hasn't started well.
00:28:44
Jo
Bournemouth. I'm gonna murder this one. It's only a short one. Oh no, I swapped him out, didn't I? Which forest offender did I put in?
00:28:53
Iain
You really know.
00:28:55
Jo
ah had a
00:28:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Marillo.
00:28:55
Iain
You probably know.
00:28:56
Jo
That's the one. So I swapped them from Murillo didn't I? Anyway, so yeah.
00:28:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:28:59
Jo
So Murillo, Tarkowski from Everton, Wambasaka from the Hammers and Munoz from Palace. Here's my back four.
00:29:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Good.
00:29:07
Jo
And then my, I'm just gonna stay four-four too, exactly. um And Boimour, Brentford, Matoma Brighton, Rogers Villa, I Warby Fulham, Dilap Ipswich and Cunha Wolves.
00:29:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fantastic. You've met the criteria. You've only picked one player from each team. and we will come back to the teams who didn't get a player in your team at the end because we'll all do an honorable mention. Ian, let's go for your team.
00:29:31
Iain
if I don't either way if I obey does sign for Newcastle you'll have to change his first name to a to have a name that begins with a Y because then he'd be why are you
00:29:40
Jo
Why I will be.
00:29:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah yep If you want cheesy, jolly jokes, you've come to the right place.
00:29:45
Jo
Love that Ian.
00:29:48
Iain
Oh, sorry about that.
00:29:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
What's your team?
00:29:50
Iain
um Walk.
00:29:50
Jo
but
00:29:52
Iain
I can hardly walk yet, man. Um. Flecken. Fleckening Girl. He's Brentford. Then I've got Lampty from Brighton, Marillo Forest, Huisin at Bournemouth, and Dine at Villa.
00:30:00
Jo
can
00:30:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
no
00:30:07
Iain
midfield of a Burj from Leicester, Cunha from Wolves and Peketa from West Ham and a front three of Eze from Palace, Dalat from Ipswich and Dibbling from Southampton.
00:30:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
fantastic lovely team again we'll come back for the honorable mentions for teams who didn't make it in. My team is Ver Bruggen from Brighton, Walker Peters from Southampton, Zabarny from Bournemouth, Gahy from Palace Emerson from West Ham.
00:30:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Rogers from Villa in midfield alongside Awobi from Fulham and then Math 3 and Wemo right wing from Brentford, Ilanga left wing from Forrest in Cunha is the number 10 from Wolves and MyStryker is also Liam de Lapp from Ipswich.
00:30:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right. So the teams I didn't pick from were Leicester and Everton. Everton, mainly because I'm not a fan of them. And I mean, what good players do Everton even have? None is the answer. um So Everton didn't get in and Leicester didn't get in. However, I did want Mads Hermansen. I know we beat Leicester 4-0 at home, but I thought their goalkeeper played very well. He's 24 years old.
00:31:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Looked pretty comfortable with his feet at times, so I would have went Mads Hermanson from Leicester who didn't get in. I know Jamie Vardy would be a popular pick, but I just think Dilap is for future. So there were two teams who did not get a pick from me.
00:31:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ian, who were two teams who didn't get a pick from you?
00:31:28
Iain
Everton, no good players to pick from Everton.
00:31:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
but See, no good players.
00:31:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
I agree.
00:31:35
Iain
I can't even, yeah.
00:31:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hopeless.
00:31:37
Iain
And the other one though, which I'm quite surprised at, one ive I couldn't work out who the other one I missed was and I know now why I missed it. The other team I missed was Fulham. who are a great team, and I haven't got anyone from Fulham.
00:31:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Very good players.
00:31:49
Iain
The reason for that is that it was the quite the last minute that I switched Moonies out and put Dalap in as my centre forward.
00:31:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Muniz is a good striker. He was on my list as well. And I thought, am I going to get Muniz in? But again, I just think that that's great. When Muniz first came at Fulham last season, he reminded me a bit of Papi Sisi. Everything he hit went in. He scored like seven in his first seven or something.
00:32:13
Iain
But you know, Kev, that was Mooney's first season playing for Fulham, but he'd been there for two, two and a half, three years. He'd been out on loan three or four times.
00:32:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah. Good player. Good player. Joe, whoever two teams you didn't pick from, please tell me one of them's had it.
00:32:32
Jo
South Hampton and Leicester. You know I picked Everton, I picked Torkowski.
00:32:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, he's hopeless.
00:32:36
Jo
Remember? And over I panicked. You know I panicked.
00:32:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Could have picked Right.
00:32:40
Jo
You heard me panicking when I was putting the defence together. like I went back to front and i I messed up. I started, as I say, I went strikers mid, This is why the goalkeeper I had pretty much no one left to work with.
00:32:52
Jo
um And yeah, I panicked on my defence a bit.
00:32:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know, it's not a capital wealth.
00:32:55
Jo
Why I put Tarkowski in? I mean, i you know, I don't hate Tarkowski.
00:32:58
Iain
He is a solid defender, he is a solid defender.
00:32:59
Jo
He's been all right. He is, exactly. he's not ah He's not like a really bad defender.
00:33:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's poor.
00:33:02
Jo
But yeah, that's who I, you know, I probably might have been able to pick. But off the top of my head, I actually can't think of someone from Southampton or Leicester that I would put ahead of him because they are the only other two teams that are left.
00:33:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's poor.
00:33:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Diblin.
00:33:14
Iain
can i
00:33:14
Jo
Well, now that you've said it, yeah, but I'll be honest, I didn't think of him.
00:33:16
Jo
So that's all.
00:33:17
Iain
Can could I just put a marker down, Kev, that what we need to do on a different Wild Card Wednesday is the absolutely worst team that we can pick?
00:33:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Go on, Ian.
00:33:28
Jo
Yes, we do.
00:33:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, you've read my mind. That's what I was wanting to do as well Ian. That's what I was wanting to do. But that's for another episode and it's probably going to be all evident please.
00:33:34
Jo
Brilliant.

That shout of an a night from Ian is a right wing. That's a brilliant shout. And again, not the typical Embremo shout like Joel went for. um Worst shout of the night, probably putting Forrest right back at centre half when you had a perfectly good centre half from Forrest, who you could have went for.
