Previewing the Unknown Opponent

00:00:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to the Daily Newcastle Podcast. so I'm your host for today's episode and I am joined by Ian and Joanne. I'll start with you Jo, how's it going?
00:00:20
Jo
All good, all good. Looking forward to this very interesting and different preview of a game that, yeah, let's i'm I'm looking forward to it anyway.
00:00:29
Jo
butnight
00:00:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely, we normally have a decent knowledge of the opponent but these are relatively unknown, or at least in to to me.
00:00:34
Jo
nothing
00:00:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
But our next guest is a beacon of knowledge so maybe you'll know more. Ian, how's it going Ian? We can't seem to get away from each other at the minute.
00:00:44
Iain
I know, I know, i am I thought I had the night off tonight actually but in best Harvey Barnes style I'm stepping in

Understanding Bromley: League 2 Reflections

00:00:51
Iain
to play a leading role just like he's going to do against Bromley on Sunday.
00:00:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
little bit of a preview in the first minute couldn't get better absolutely brilliant now as we've mentioned it is a bit of an odd episode today because we don't really know too much about the opposition but thankfully that probably means neither do you and if you do well you must love terrible football
00:01:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's League 2.
00:01:18
Iain
very harsh
00:01:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've watch watched enough League 2 in my time tonight.
00:01:19
Jo
well
00:01:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's terrible football. But I thought I'd start on our thoughts on how we're feeling going into the competition. Ian, we did speak briefly on this last night, so go more into you know what should be the easiest game of our season so far.
00:01:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
No disrespect intended to Bromley, but Andy Woodman doesn't really get me as a a top class manager who's and Bromley doesn't really fit me as a top class site. But Joanne, how are you feeling?
00:01:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
going into the game.
00:01:50
Jo
I mean, personally, I thought, man, you was the easiest game of the season so far, but you know, if it's gonna be Bromley, it's gonna be Bromley.
00:01:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fine second.
00:01:57
Jo
Poor Bromley. Watch them get a bloody draw against us like Wimbledon did.
00:02:03
Jo
Let's hope not though, that would be pretty embarrassing. Come on, I mean, we're expecting, even if we play second string plus some youngsters, we've still gotta expect to win this, haven't we really?
00:02:12
Jo
It's not any disrespect to Bromley, is it?
00:02:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:02:14
Jo
It's just... Come on. We're at home. We've got everything

The Emotional Bromley Match

00:02:17
Jo
going for us. We've got a packed house, which is pretty impressive considering we're playing a fourth tier team who the only information I know about them is their mid table in league two.
00:02:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:02:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's a good stuff.
00:02:28
Jo
That's my, that's my knowledge of Bromley. It's a good start, right? And it's, that's where it ends as well.
00:02:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:02:33
Jo
But yeah, I mean, other than pretty confident because A, we're smashing everything anyway, even though I don't expect pretty much anyone from our normal starting team to start.
00:02:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:02:42
Jo
But yeah, you've still got to expect us to win, haven't you really?
00:02:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
100%. What about you? and Are you excited to see what the rest of the Newcastle side can do, given we're likely to make at least nine changes?
00:02:53
Iain
I think it's ah ah it's interesting, isn't it? And it comes just at the perfect time because it's not like the guys who have put so three excellent shifts in in eight days. I've got a lot of time off because where where they're on when next Wednesday to see them play wolves.
00:03:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:03:07
Iain
So but it it has come at a great time to give those guys a day off. Now, I think I might be making this up. One of our listeners can correct me if it's true, but I think for me it's a little bit of a needle match.
00:03:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:03:22
Iain
Because I think, last year, when Gateshead were refused permission to be promoted into the Football League, it was Bromley that took their place.
00:03:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh.
00:03:22
Jo
Hmm.
00:03:33
Iain
because i don't think it was bromley I don't think it was Bromley that won that league.
00:03:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh.
00:03:35
Iain
I

Newcastle's Struggles Against Lower League Teams

00:03:35
Iain
think it was Chesterfield, wasn't it?
00:03:36
Jo
Was it?
00:03:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Bromley went up through the playoffs, that's correct.
00:03:40
Jo
Oh.
00:03:40
Iain
There you go. That's where Gateshead should have been. so yeah, a bit of a needle match. I, yeah. So, I think this, you know, I think our second string should still be way too good for them.
00:03:52
Iain
But I have, I know you'll be remembering Cambridge and maybe Oxford.
00:03:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:03:57
Jo
her
00:03:58
Iain
If you're as old as me, you can go back for decade after decade after decade. Remember losing at home to Luton. Remember losing at home to Bournemouth when they were a third division side.
00:04:10
Iain
Of course, Hereford. which I do just about remember.
00:04:13
Iain
I remember the replay. I'd go back a long way to know that if there's a banana skin to be stepped on in the FA Cup third round, Newcastle will be trying their best to make it look as if they're going to step on it.
00:04:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:04:26
Iain
So yeah, I'm excited to see what some of the young lads, I mean, I think Asula should start and give him 90 minutes.
00:04:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
absolutely Absolutely.
00:04:32
Jo
Yeah.
00:04:33
Iain
Let him get his first goals for Newcastle.
00:04:34
Jo
God, God, yeah.
00:04:35
Iain
That would be fantastic.
00:04:37
Jo
Yep.
00:04:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
To be honest, I just want to focus on something that we've briefly mentioned there and that is Newcastle's form against lower league clubs. In our last six games against lower league opposition, we've only won three of them.
00:04:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
And one of them was against Sunderland, so it was basically a bye.
00:04:57
Jo
yes
00:04:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
But we've had one draw in two losses against low league opposition with Cambridge and Sheffield Wednesday, both given any side defeats. And I just have to ask, why do you think it is that we struggle against lesser opponents at times?
00:05:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Or is it just a case of we're playing our backups? Well, backups clearly aren't good enough as good as the other teams. Or is it a motivational factor? What do you think, Ian?
00:05:21
Iain
probably a combination of both. But also I think there's there's something that we have at the moment which is that almost telepathic link and connections between the players who are playing week in week out with each other that when you
00:05:24
Jo
Thank you.
00:05:37
Iain
when you When you change your team wholesale because it's against a a lesser team, you don't have any of that.
00:05:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:05:45
Iain
You don't have any of that if there's two or three of the other 23s that are stepping into the team because because they've earned the right and we want to test them against professionals. you know They've got nothing other than training experience in playing with but those

Team Dynamics and Lineup Changes

00:06:00
Iain
teams. So I'm sure nobody who turned out on Kieran Trippier's debut to play at home against Cambridge thought wasn't motivated to win that.
00:06:13
Iain
and and Eddie actually didn't pick of who a weakened that much of a weakened team.
00:06:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:06:18
Iain
It just was just was one of those games which which everybody can get. aren't they but yeah so hopefully Hopefully, we've got more strength in depth after the last three years.
00:06:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. hundred percent.
00:06:31
Iain
Certainly, we recruited well into the academy, so I'm hoping they've got a higher level as well. And so our second string should have too much for essentially what should still be a National League side.
00:06:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:06:44
Iain
Sorry, Bromley.
00:06:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
but up the heat 100% and Bromley have actually already lost to another 21's Premier League side this season losing to Chelsea in the what was the Johnsons paint trophy then became the Papa Johns when the Maggums were in that bottom tier trophy, no disrespect to any other team that's won it just the sun just the Sunderland.
00:07:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
lost are enough finals, it's fine.
00:07:07
Jo
not low
00:07:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah ah So that they've they've got previous of of losing against lower opposition in the under 21s of a Premier League side, but going back to what we were saying before with Newcastle's perhaps poor form against lower league opposition, Joanne, why do you think that is?
00:07:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is it sort of a motivational thing or is it just the second string isn't good enough?
00:07:31
Jo
I'm honest, when you first said it and then went to Ian, I was thinking exactly along the same lines. I wouldn't say it's a motivational thing, or you'd at least hope it's not, I'll be honest, because these guys should still be motivated to want to p play well and win something at the same
00:07:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.

Speculations on Bromley Match Lineup

00:07:42
Jo
time.
00:07:43
Jo
So I would hope, to God, it's going to often do a motivation. But think it's just more is along the lines of these guys are more used to training with each other. It's a completely different thing being in a competitive match, no matter what level you're at.
00:07:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:07:54
Jo
And then again, Michael's, um Ian, sorry, is bang on in the sense of they haven't played game in, game out with each other.
00:08:00
Jo
They haven't got, like he said, some of the telepathic things that are going on with our current team at the minute. So it's just a case of getting used to each other's style, I suppose, as well. So I don't think it's going to be, it's a strange one, isn't it?
00:08:11
Jo
Because technically on paper, right? We should go out there and smash them off the park. I genuinely don't think we're gonna.
00:08:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:08:17
Jo
I wouldn't put a bet on to say we're gonna and you know we all love a good cheeky flutter on this team, well a few of us do anyway. But yeah like I wouldn't go out and say oh we're gonna smash him 6-7-0 because we probably won't because of those factors that we've just talked about.
00:08:29
Jo
I do believe we'll win but I don't think it's it's it's just gonna be a different kind of, a very very different kind of game I'll be honest and people who are going the game by the way who probably haven't seen many games this season
00:08:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:08:38
Jo
because I bet there's quite a few out there after how many hundreds of tickets I've just seen back on the website. I'm assuming this is maybe the first game for a lot of people this season, so they're not really going to see the Newcastle we're used to watching from any of the games we've been to.
00:08:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. No. Absolutely not. No, absolutely not. And it's it to be honest, you make a great point there about sort of the lack of goals that we might see. the two game The last two FA Cup games we've seen at home against lower league opposition have both finished 1-0.
00:09:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
The Cambridge match that we mentioned earlier, I believe it was Joe Ironside that got the goal that day, Jordy Ladd. And 1-0 win against AFC Wimbledon earlier in the season where I think we were all expecting a brilliant game.
00:09:14
Iain
we were all We were all there as well, weren't we?
00:09:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, we were all there and we all barely fell asleep. I mean, i I probably would have if I wasn't in level seven. Sitting there, usually five degrees or something, I can still have shorts on. I'm sat up there like, I'm so cold. My wife is having to keep me warm, bless her. She did a fantastic job. But before I divert onto my own family matters, we're gonna move on and go to the first advert of the day from Zencaster.
00:09:18
Jo
we were

00:10:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
absolutely fantastic joe thank you very much and we are back so before we go into our predicted lineup which i think is probably going to be the most exciting part of the episode if you're a football fan want to know what's going to happen i do just want to give a few facts about bromley because
00:10:18
Iain
yeah
00:10:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
As I say, most people, including myself, would have known nothing before doing a little bit of research. So they are coached by Andy Woodman, who many will remember as ex-New Castle goalkeeping coach, father to Freddie.
00:10:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's probably the only reason he got in the academy, considering he can't catch a ball. But he's doing well at Preston now, so that's fine.
00:10:41
Jo
but Well.
00:10:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
probably and I didn't like him.
00:10:45
Iain
He was a great goalie.
00:10:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
He was terrible. but probably are unbeaten in 10 prior to their weekend loss against crew Alexandra who beat them 4-1. Their star player is Michael Creek, cheek should i say not c creekak but he's playing in the football league for the first time in his career at the age of 33 and he's absolutely nailing it.
00:11:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Scoring 12 times in 20 games for the Brom this season.
00:11:05
Jo
well
00:11:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
One player that every everyone and I believe may know who plays for Bromley at the minute is ex Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson who went off to have some time in Australia and has for some reason come back at the premi league not well to not to the Premier League with Bromley, come back to play Premier League sides in the form of Newcastle and their best defender Carmel Grant is out suspended so their two centre backs will likely have a combined age of 64.
00:11:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
And if they decide to play their third choice instead of their second choice that will go up to over 70.
00:11:37
Jo
wow
00:11:39
Jo
Wow.
00:11:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
and they leave 71. So it's one of those where realistically if William Missoula plays up front and doesn't have a good game, I think serious questions are going to be asked.
00:11:53
Jo
We can give up on him now.
00:11:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, but as we go into our predicted lineup, we're going to start at the other end of the pitch and I'm going to ask you who you both think will start in goal.
00:11:55
Jo
We can, let's get real.
00:12:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Do you think it'll be a last hurrah for Martin Dubravka or do you think Odysseys will feature Joe? What about what you thinking?
00:12:11
Jo
Yeah well I think everyone believes that Dubravka has gone after the last game based on how he kind of left the pitch and he was the last one there and he looked like he was crying and so I don't expect him to start I didn't really expect him to start if I'm honest even if he wasn't leaving I think it is just an opportunity for that Greek guy I'm not going to say his name I'll destroy it so we'll Greek keep it to get a game give him some game time he needs something because god forbid which I just think is going to happen anyway if Dubravka really is going
00:12:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:12:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:12:38
Jo
He is now going to be able to keep until Pope's back in that not being rude to him, it kind of worries me because we're on such a great kind of run and we are now aiming very high. I think, you know, we've discussed it now.
00:12:49
Jo
I mean, we're putting bets on about when the league and all sorts of appreciate we're getting way ahead

Defensive and Midfield Lineup Considerations

00:12:53
Jo
of ourselves.
00:12:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Some of us are.
00:12:55
Jo
Some of us, sorry, it was me. I know I'm probably tarring you guys with my brush. um but no like but again we're getting really excited about what the season could be and it just kind of worries me that we're now going to go to play in a third choice keeper that i'm just not convinced by because i don't know know enough from i haven't seen enough from so i can't fully judge them it's as simple as that but 100% yeah great keeper in basically yeah i had better things to do
00:13:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:13:16
Iain
Joanne, if you had followed England as closely as me and Michael had to, because we had to do the bloody podcasts about England, you would you would have watched Odysseus, whatever he's called, you'd have watched him play very well, twice against England, for Greece.
00:13:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
every single time
00:13:36
Jo
Yeah.
00:13:36
Iain
And I don't think you've got any any worries You know, Greece is ah ah is a team on a par with Slovakia and it's their international goalkeeper instead of Slovakia's international goalkeeper. I would, I'd have no wo worries about him at all.
00:13:52
Jo
I'm not judging.
00:13:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I take it by that.
00:13:52
Jo
i'm just dont I don't know enough about him. That's all. It's not like i I don't hate the guy.
00:13:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:13:56
Jo
I just can't love him. I don't know him. That's it.
00:13:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
I can't stand that Geezer I've never seen play.
00:14:02
Jo
Don't say that.
00:14:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
But by that Ian, I take it you believe that Odyssey, Odyssey is whatever it is, will start.
00:14:11
Iain
I think, yeah, I think he'll start. Unless all of this faffing around with Martin Dubravka, who I'm sure was gone on Tuesday night.
00:14:22
Iain
And then Eddie came out and said he didn't just want them to stay until the end of the season.
00:14:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah yes I'd seen that as well yeah
00:14:26
Iain
He wants to give him a new contract, which might well.
00:14:29
Jo
Mmhmm.
00:14:29
Iain
And then and then a lot of, a lot of the guys, a lot of the noise is that Pope doesn't walk straight back into this team because Dubravka has played so well.
00:14:41
Iain
that that may well have turned to Pravka's head. I think if he's got the number one jersey on his back and he becomes the number one again, then, you know, maybe he does want to stay till the end of the season.
00:14:52
Iain
Maybe he wants to stay to the end of the season and into the next season. So I don't know. I don't know. You might have said, look, I'll stay for the match so I can say goodbye to St.
00:15:03
Iain
James's Park.
00:15:04
Jo
yeah yeah
00:15:04
Iain
But I don't know.
00:15:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
great point.
00:15:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think one of his biggest regrets will have been that loan to Man United it because he didn't get a feature in the Cup Final in the end. And us beating Arsenal so convincingly in the end, having a home game against them in the semi-final, I think that might be enough to sway, I think, anybody.
00:15:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
not Never mind someone that's been at the club for seven plus years. So yeah, we think we're in agreement. and But the back line is quite an interesting one because we don't have a lot of names there. Ian, I'll start with you this time. What are you thinking for your back fall?
00:15:38
Iain
well, I think, uh, Trippia comes in at right back.
00:15:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:15:41
Jo
and
00:15:42
Iain
I think Matt Target comes in at left back.
00:15:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Good shot.
00:15:48
Iain
I think baby Fabshaw, who's probably wanting to get back up to match fitness for the rest of the league matches will come in at center half. Uh, and then, then Lloyd Kelly, but that's not a bad back four.
00:16:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
not at all i think that would to be honest that would probably play every game in the top championship side so you know it's it's one of those that every day like that that back line should be more than enough to handle someone a bromley team but the main thing there is fabian share i mean obviously we'll want to get a bit of game time but
00:16:09
Jo
Yeah.
00:16:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
When you look at it, actually, because of the injury to injuries to Emile Kraft and Jamala Sells, unless you're looking at maybe young Alex Murphy, there's not a lot of options there. So hopefully, we don't see an injury to Fabian Sherb before the game.
00:16:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I think, Joanne, were you agreed on the back four there?
00:16:39
Jo
I do, but I kind of don't want Cher to play just for the exact reason you just said there. I just think it's far too risky.
00:16:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:16:46
Jo
Surely we've got someone else, and like you say, we can bring one of the kids in, give them a chance. They should still be able to do a job, especially with the likes of Trips, a lot of experience.
00:16:50
Iain
Yeah.
00:16:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Under the sun.
00:16:54
Iain
Well, that was.
00:16:55
Jo
Kelly is good enough. I know we've talked about him many times, but he is good enough in that sense, certainly to handle a team like that. And Target can do a job, see.
00:17:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
and percent
00:17:03
Jo
Yeah, I don't want to see Cher start simply because I don't want to any opportunity to be injured because we need him back. for wolves.
00:17:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:17:10
Iain
I don't know the names, Michael, but there are what I mean, I do know Alex Murphy's name and he and he's looked good when I've seen him play, but I think he's he's the left hand side anyway, isn't he?
00:17:15
Jo
Mhmm.
00:17:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:17:20
Iain
predominantly.
00:17:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, because he can pull the left back as well.
00:17:22
Iain
but we've got with the captain of the under twenty threes is a centre half. ca how somebody or other and he might yeah he might he might come in.
00:17:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Uh, Cathal Heffernan. Yeah.
00:17:33
Iain
He might be ready to be blooded in the first team and we've got some young wonder kid fullback as well who may well have earned the right to to get a little bit of of a run out.
00:17:45
Iain
Can't remember his name.
00:17:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Uh, Leo Shaw.
00:17:47
Jo
Where does Harrison play again?
00:17:48
Iain
sha
00:17:49
Jo
He's not in the back, is he?
00:17:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Harrison's like center mid sort of area.
00:17:51
Jo
Alfie Harrison.
00:17:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
At least that's where he's been playing for the under 21s.
00:17:54
Jo
Alright, okay. I couldn't remember where he played, but I wouldn't mind seeing him, to be fair. He's supposed to be doing alright at the minute, but I don't know.
00:17:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
absolutely
00:18:00
Jo
There's so many options, really, when you start to come out bringing the kids in as well, isn't it?
00:18:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, they've all seemed to impress over the last so well the last year or so. The team's looking a lot better. And from what I can tell from words that sort of I've heard from people inside the club is that like the games against AC Milan and stuff like that, they made the team so much better because they've had that experience playing against players at the highest level. I mean, that Kamada, the young lad from AC Milan, if anyone hasn't seen his goal record, it's absolutely fantastic. so You're playing against that style standard of player. It's only going to make you better. And I think that's what we've seen a lot from the end of 21. So what any of them should be very easy to fit in, much like one of the players that I think you're going to see at the start and center a mid. Who are the three center mids that he's going to be going for? Joe, I'll start with you this time.
00:18:50
Jo
you've, I mean, I would expect long staff to come back in because there's going to be some experience. We're not literally going to play a team full of kids. So we really, Oh, I don't know.
00:18:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
No.
00:19:01
Jo
Cause I was here. It's just none of our first start. I see you wiping them all out straight away. Aren't you really? I wouldn't even expect willing to start.
00:19:06
Iain
I who and know who inna who Michael's thinking of, the obvious one.
00:19:08
Jo
And I'm honestly, but he might. I don't know. Could start willing and long staff.
00:19:13
Jo
Who are you thinking of?
00:19:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh yes
00:19:14
Jo
Are you thinking of one of the kids? Are you Michael? That's what you're thinking of.
00:19:16
Iain
Lewis Miley is the obvious one to come

Offensive Lineup and Young Talent

00:19:18
Jo
Oh, Miley. Yeah, I was going to bring him in anyway, but yeah, sorry.
00:19:18
Iain
in.
00:19:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah oh
00:19:20
Jo
I thought you got, I think there's someone like more, more out of it, if you know what I mean.
00:19:20
Iain
possiblyfield
00:19:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
no no no one rogue yeah yeah to be honest I think that's probably the most likely three as well would you yeah
00:19:26
Jo
No one wrote, right? Okay. Well, Miley a hundred percent in that case. And yeah. Oh, Miley needs to be playing long staff and Willak. There we go. That'll be my three. Let them run ragged.
00:19:36
Iain
Um, Louis Miley, definitely. what One of Longstaff and Willock and one of Turner Cook or Archie, what you call him.
00:19:49
Iain
I think we'll do that.
00:19:49
Jo
Alfie Harrison that I've just mentioned.
00:19:51
Iain
Yes.
00:19:51
Jo
Oh no. Yeah.
00:19:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
It'd be a fantastic chance to see some of the youngins in action, because to be honest, they're not going to better opportunity at home to Bromley.
00:19:56
Jo
It would?
00:19:56
Iain
I don't know.
00:20:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
but If you can get one of them in next to Lewis Miley, who's been absolutely phenomenal. A brilliant example of how someone coming to the team and embed themselves properly. And a local lad in Sean Longstaff or an absolute engine in Joe Willick.
00:20:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
It'll be great for the careers and hopefully they might step up to the first team in the near in the near future. But we're going to finish off part two.
00:20:20
Iain
See, i've got to say I was going to say in the midfield, Louis Miley's been playing under 23 football.
00:20:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sorry, go.
00:20:28
Iain
So you bring another one of his guys he's played half a dozen games with this season in, you you are getting some of those connections and telepathy.
00:20:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah.
00:20:38
Iain
And and you know I think that might be, if if they're good at enough, I don't know. I've only seen little cameos from Turner Cook in the preseason. He looked all right.
00:20:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:20:48
Iain
so, you know, and I don't follow the other 23s, uh, anywhere near as closely as I should do. Uh, but yeah, so I, I wouldn't, I wouldn't mind, maybe you start Willakin and Longstaff and go through your head and start bringing, bringing the other lads on when they've done that. Who knows?
00:21:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, either way, I think it'd be, you know, we should win at the end of the day, no matter who we play, because, you know, the the talent is there. There's always the chance that you come away with a loss.
00:21:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that's maybe why against, you know, maybe you don't start Harrison or someone like that. But we're going to finish off part two with the front three. I think we're in agreement that William Orsula should start up front because let's be honest, it's not going to be Callum Wilson.
00:21:27
Iain
Yep.
00:21:30
Jo
Thank you.
00:21:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
So on the wings, I think we're going to say Barnes to left wing as well.
00:21:36
Jo
Yeah.
00:21:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
All three?
00:21:37
Iain
Mmm, barns.
00:21:37
Jo
Yeah.
00:21:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, what do you think of Ian?
00:21:39
Jo
No.
00:21:40
Iain
Well, I don't, I have barns on the bench, maybe, because just in case the washing machine guy, Sunussi, is not...
00:21:44
Jo
Yeah.
00:21:50
Jo
Isn't, doesn't he play on the right? Cause I was going to call him for the right.
00:21:53
Iain
I think he's left. I think he's left winger.
00:21:55
Jo
Is he?
00:21:55
Iain
Yeah.
00:21:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm not 100% certain myself, but I know he plays on the wing.
00:21:56
Iain
yeah
00:21:56
Jo
Oh, I dunno. Michael, do you know?
00:22:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
So no, I can't help you.
00:22:01
Iain
He got he got he got to he got a lot of ah ah got a lot of time in the pre-season, I'm sure he came in on the left hand side.
00:22:02
Jo
I'm going to Google it and cheat
00:22:09
Iain
and So I could quite like to see him again.
00:22:15
Iain
Because let's let' be honest, this is the second part of the season, if we're going to have any of these guys breaking through into next year, we want them on the bench, we want them getting used to travelling away. We want them to come on and do their 10 minutes, etc.
00:22:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, 100%.
00:22:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:22:29
Iain
So they've got to start somewhere and I think solution is quite high up the pecking order to get.
00:22:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
and excel
00:22:34
Iain
To get a go in this game, he might be on the bench and then come on as I say.
00:22:34
Jo
Uh, it doesn't say.
00:22:39
Iain
But yeah, if if it's not him, it's Barnes on the left and then I think Mickey need to run out on the right, doesn't he?
00:22:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that's the thing. I've seen something the other day, and maybe I've just been fooled by Twitter, which does tend to happen more often than I care to admit. But from what I'd seen, apparently, Miggy was in Paris getting a flight.
00:22:58
Jo
Yes, yeah apparently.
00:22:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now, yeah, so if if that's true, then the right wing spot's very open to one of the youngins coming in, because I don't think we're going to start Jacob Murphy again. ah ah You've got to give him a little bit of a rest.
00:23:10
Jo
Oh.
00:23:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's been far too good.
00:23:12
Jo
He's our star boy right now.
00:23:15
Jo
Come on guys, it's not just me anymore.
00:23:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
i And to be fair, in his last 2000 minutes of Premier League football, he's got 14 assists, which is absolutely incredible.
00:23:23
Jo
He's been outstanding, come on. Everybody knows now, it's great.
00:23:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
sir So with that, we're not going to turn this into a Jacob Murphy fan club.
00:23:32
Jo
We're not. yes
00:23:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're going to go into our second advert of the day from the Global Sports Podcast Network.

Player Performance Analysis

00:24:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fantastic. And how many languages was that in?
00:24:06
Iain
It was in a five, count them.
00:24:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Five.
00:24:09
Jo
Five.
00:24:10
Iain
count them.
00:24:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Uno, dos, tres, cratro, cinco.
00:24:12
Iain
and but but it's a it's terrible It's terrible wording though.
00:24:17
Iain
It doesn't make any sense. That first sentence just is grammatically incorrect.
00:24:21
Jo
Well.
00:24:21
Iain
I'm sorry. I'm going to have to try and
00:24:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll put it to the powers that be.
00:24:26
Jo
but
00:24:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Or we'll just make our own advert. We'll go rogue.
00:24:30
Jo
well
00:24:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
But going into the last part, I just wanted to ask you, who at the weekend do you want to see the most? Who the danger man could be? And who are you most looking forward to seeing?
00:24:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now we've mentioned some of the youngins in there. We've mentioned William or Sula, but to pick out one, who would it be? And I will start with you, Ian.
00:24:56
Iain
Right well i I'm picking two because I've already mentioned William Asula and I have been impressed with the little cameos that I've seen of him.
00:25:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:25:04
Iain
What a fantastic what a fantastic chance he's got 52,000 people shouting. Asula to the tequila tune and he's up against two ger geriatric center halves.
00:25:14
Jo
That's gonna be great.
00:25:19
Iain
This is this is his moment. and But I'm also really keen to see how Sunussi has come on since since he impressed me coming on and doing his and maximum impersonation in preseason.
00:25:28
Jo
Yeah.
00:25:34
Iain
i I really hope he can can keep developing and come on and bring us that.
00:25:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
He looks like a star.
00:25:40
Iain
Bring us that thrill back.
00:25:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
100%.
00:25:42
Iain
the MIT
00:25:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely two great picks. And what about you, Joe?
00:25:47
Jo
Well, I think Osula is in, well, everyone wants to see him, don't they? So he has to play. I think, and he might be forced to play him whether he wants to play him or not.
00:25:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:25:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
so
00:25:55
Jo
but yeah, as soon as he was another one, but Miley, I'm looking forward to seeing Miley back and should surely have just pure control of that midfield, a kid like him.
00:26:04
Jo
I know he's still young, but Andy's Mr.
00:26:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
You'd hope so.
00:26:07
Jo
Beefed up Miley now, isn't he? no, it'd be interesting to see how he takes it on, but you expect him to have full control, don't you really? So yeah, I'm excited.
00:26:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
and so
00:26:14
Jo
I'm excited to see him back here.
00:26:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think he's have took the players that are realistically going to be the most exciting, I do have to say being probably on me and attacking threats if he plays, I really want to see something from Harvey Barnes because we see all the time how good he is off off the bench.
00:26:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
if he's going to be a starter, Anthony Gordon has stepped up so much in the last seven games that Harvey Barnes isn't an afterthought but there isn't there's not a chance of him starting the next league game against Wolves unless Gordon's injured. So a game like this If he performs well, it's probably not going to change that. But he could put himself back in the thoughts of Eddie Howe and go, I deserve a start. And I think this is the kind of team when you're up against Carl Jenkinson, who wasn't good enough for Arsenal, wasn't good enough for Palace, wasn't good enough for Bolton, probably did all right in Australia. I don't know who watches Australian football. Sorry to any Australians who might be watching this.
00:27:14
Jo
Can you imagine? The other next in line, all the Americans that listen to us. Not anymore.
00:27:32
Iain
and ah you know we've You know we've searched and searched fruitlessly for a player who played for both Bromley and Newcastle. I think cold i think Carl Jenkinson but has got the closest because I am sure when he was at Arsenal and we were looking for
00:27:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh
00:27:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's linked with us.
00:27:53
Iain
Cheap failures from the top six that we could pick up like we like we used to pick for our first team. I'm sure Jenkinson was was linked with us a few times.
00:28:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, imagine him and Obertan on the wing.
00:28:03
Iain
So he's nearly.
00:28:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah bad memories.
00:28:10
Iain
Oh dear dear dear, yeah, so anyway.
00:28:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, I've nearly killed Ian.
00:28:14
Iain
It made me laugh. Just remembered him, but I got he was terrible, wasn't it?

Final Match Predictions

00:28:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh
00:28:33
Jo
3 3-0 Ocelahatric.
00:28:37
Iain
Oh, lovely.
00:28:39
Jo
I know.
00:28:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
get that on what's the odds on that what about you in
00:28:44
Iain
and I really hope it's a good game because i I am in hospitality for this because it's half the price.
00:28:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, fancy.
00:28:52
Iain
It's in half the price of any other game. So the least I could do is see some goals flying in, isn't it? However, I strongly suspect that the the wily old professionals that play it for Bromley will be
00:28:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:29:09
Iain
will be like the AFC Wimbledon if they're about the same league, same position in the league.
00:29:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:29:14
Iain
So I think we'll win. I hope it's not just through a Fabian Shah penalty, but I am going to go 2-0.
00:29:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
was originally my thinking as well. I do think it'll be a tight game But if there's ever a time for me to go overly positive, it's probably when we play a Bromley So I'm gonna go for we're gonna go one better than we did against Sunderland and we're gonna win 4-0 It'll be the only other team in the last seven games that we've beaten by more than one Yes, that's how bad Sunderland were I think Bromley will be a little bit worse and we'll see Harvey Barnes get a brace and or Sula get one and Lewis Miley will wrap it up with an absolute fantastic man of the match performance.
00:29:59
Jo
Nice.
00:30:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
But that is all for today's episode and as you can tell we probably don't know him enough about Bromley to be properly previewing the game.
00:30:01
Jo
Yep.
00:30:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
You might know a bit more and that honestly wouldn't it actually be nice for football if Bromley turned up and gave us a proper good game and it would pick people like me shut up.
00:30:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
But on that point going to leave you there. I've been Michael Graham, so I've been joined by Ian and Joe and we will see you next time.
