Hi, we're Patrick and Ruth Schwank, and we are so thrilled you are listening in with us here at Root Like Faith. Yeah, we really are. You know, Ruth and I have been married now for 21 years. Can you believe that? Oh my goodness. Actually, 21 and a half years. And so Ruth and I first met while we were attending the Moody Bible Institute. We met on a prank phone call. She was in an English class with my roommate. I had never seen Ruth. I'd never talked to Ruth. And yet my roommate said, there's this girl named Ruth in my English class, and she is so gullible she'll fall for anything.

No, it's not true. And so we gave her a call. And so here we were in one of the best cities in the world. And I was sitting in my dorm room with a bunch of my friends crowded around my desktop computer and my speaker phone. And we gave this girl named Ruth a call. And as the story would go, she would not fall for the prank.

But in time, she would fall for me. And so I'm glad that she did. I'm glad you did, honey.

And so here we are. We have been married for 21 and a half years and we've been in local church ministry for almost 20 years now. And we have four kids who are 17, 15, 13,

We've been in local church ministry now for almost 20 years, which is hard to believe. I don't know if you remember, when we first started out in ministry, we had that old 1994 Aerostar that just was rusting out on every side and we would load up our youngest son, Tyler, who was just a couple months old at the time and we would drive to the church or we would meet people for coffee

or for lunch. And so it feels like we've been in ministry a long, long time. And we've been in online ministry now for over 10 years. We've been writing books for really the last eight years.

And so we've had the joy over the last 20 years of seeing people come to know Jesus and grow in their faith. And we've seen marriages restored. We've seen families reorient themselves around the person of Jesus and his mission in the world. We've seen parents understand their calling to pass on faith. And it's just been an incredible joy to be a part of that journey and to be one voice among many, speaking into the lives of folks that we've had the opportunity of ministering to. And at the same time, we've seen the downside. We've seen people that,

maybe have walked through difficult seasons or circumstances and they become disoriented or maybe disillusioned in the relationship with God. They have walked away from their faith and it's been incredibly heartbreaking. I know for us to see that and to experience that, even close friends that we've seen that happen to. And so the heart behind root like faith is really this desire, this continued desire to see people rooted in their faith, built up and experiencing the abundant life that Jesus promises in John 10, 10.

I mean, Jesus said, I came to give you life and a life more abundant. That's what God wants for us. We believe that that life is available and we want to see people rooted in their faith, continuing to love Him and walk with Him.

Yeah, so here's what to expect at Root Like Faith, what we're going to be talking about. First of all, obviously, we're going to be talking about what it means to be rooted and how we stay rooted. We're going to talk about the practical side, the spiritual disciplines, what that means for our spiritual life. We'll be talking about change. And is it even possible to change? I know so many people struggle with that in the Christian life. How do we change?

And then we'll be talking about friendship and community and why it's so important, but also why it's so difficult. We're going to have some friends on as well. We've just been so blessed over the years to have folks that have spoken into our lives, different relationships that we've had.

And so we're gonna have the opportunity to have some of those friends on, some of those mentors on, different authors and speakers. And we're gonna talk about a variety of topics in the weeks and the months to come. And so we're even gonna talk theology, we're gonna talk cultural issues that we're facing or that the church is facing. And so we've got a lot we wanna talk about and we're looking forward to that, talking through some of those things together.

And we want it to feel like you're sitting in our living room. Over the years, we have had so many people into our home, sitting on the couches, talking, hanging out. And we really feel like life lived out like that is how we really grow. And so we want it to feel like we're sitting with you in our living room.

Yeah, we wish we could do that with everybody. And so this is just one opportunity to accomplish that, to do that. And so thank you again for joining us.
