Chaotic Beginnings and Personal Introductions

00:00:01
Speaker
This is the Garage Avenger podcast.
00:00:07
Speaker
I refuse to air drum on this intro after we did this twin thing last week. It just shows that I don't know how to play the drums because I'm obviously hitting the wrong drum. It's totally out of time. You're just like... You're like every three-year-old that ever jumps on a drum kit. You're calling me three-year-old, Kieran?
00:00:35
Speaker
Welcome to the Garage Revenge of Podcasts. I am Kieran, trying to turn my garage brewed beers into a world-renowned brewery. And I'm Justin, trying to share the joy of building my death machines in know one day of hoping yeah i can't even talk today in one day of hoping to make a living out of it. Jeez, I still can't talk to you. We're twin brothers with a passion for creating the wild and unexpected, taking on a journey through the everyday life in our garages.
00:01:09
Speaker
Welcome. Yep. I'm glad we're back to the status quo of fucking up that intro.
00:01:18
Speaker
Me too, actually. Me too. There were too many good ones in the middle the last couple weeks. you're yeah yeah It was important that we screwed it up. Yeah. it makes It makes our listeners feel like they're normal.

Reflections on Life and Loss

00:01:30
Speaker
um We're weirdos. We can't get an intro right. We are weirdos, let's be honest. Yes. Yeah, so what's been happening this week here? and Well, there's been a lot of small things, big things.
00:01:48
Speaker
ah where Where should I dive in? and with On sad news, Lynn's grandma, my wife's grandma, ah passed away this week. Sorry to hear that. But that's okay.
00:02:04
Speaker
ah Weirdly, she's wanted to die for a long time. And and so in some sense, it's a relief. um But yeah, so that speed it's been there's been a bit of a sombre note around the house of late, especially from the wife.
00:02:20
Speaker
and But, so you know, things are... Oh, good, still. So it's like, you know, where' that's that's life. You know, people live and they die in and it's just the journey of it, really.
00:02:34
Speaker
Isn't that fascinating, though? Yeah, we we just like blaze, like people like live and they die. know I thought about Lynn's grandmother. She wanted to die. Like most people are struggling to stay alive, you know? Oh, I've got to admit though, for someone who wanted to die, held on to the bitter end.
00:02:54
Speaker
Like she just ah like every, she used to say like on a regular basis. And I say this with the most utmost respect for her. Like ah that she used to wake, she used to say to Lynn, like I woke up every, I wake up every morning, realize I'm still alive and I'm disappointed.
00:03:11
Speaker
Like that's how she would speak for years, right? And I'm thinking, to me, I'm thinking like like that's a bit sad to hear because like think of what she could achieve in those years that she's sat around wanting to die. you Even just like building relationships with people, having meaningful connections and like making an influence by having an influence on other people's lives. Like there's so much potential there.
00:03:38
Speaker
kind of thrown away by the desire to just move on to the next the next stage, whatever that is. So, yeah. But I also get people get tired and and there's a lot of there's a lot of factors involved. Yeah.
00:03:52
Speaker
so Yeah, for sure. But ah for me, who's, you know, young 39-year-old man, you know, I could imagine wanting to die. doesn't make any sense for me. But, no of course you know, I haven't lost my loved ones and things like that. and Yeah, that's that's like the hard side of it. Yeah, it's like when you when you're your wife or your partner you has passed,
00:04:16
Speaker
and your, your kids are moved away and, and all your friends around you start talking it as well. Like there's, yeah, I can imagine things get pretty dark.
00:04:28
Speaker
So yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. yeah The body stops, stops working how you want it. But, uh, Yeah, so that's been there's been a bit of a sombre note at home.

Adventures in Sales and Brewing

00:04:43
Speaker
ah a found out this week my wine is delayed, which I'm pretty devo about, to be honest. It's three-week delay, which means i miss my wine monopoly window.
00:04:56
Speaker
are you kidding me? Yeah. ah Thankfully, I think all the the orders just go over to the next like calendar month, And then that just, you know, then they the stock goes out when it arrives.
00:05:10
Speaker
I think that's how it will work. I hope so But it's a bit of a shit because like three weeks just stuck in, don't know what the deal is. They never tell you really what happened, but it didn't, I don't know, like the boat didn't meet its connection or something like that. And it's probably sitting on a dock somewhere and then, yeah.
00:05:29
Speaker
So that's a bit of a shit. um so then I went in i went into so for a sales trip into Oslo. Oh, did yeah Last week, yeah.
00:05:41
Speaker
Yeah, set up a few meetings, set up and had a couple of non-meetings and just rocked up at places that I've been talking to um And, yeah, like actually felt I did really well. Like sales is one of those weird things that you kind of feel like, oh, I'm pressuring someone to buy something from me.
00:06:05
Speaker
um But I went in to most of these places and i just bought a beer and then started talking to the guy behind the bar and tried to find out who was. If I didn't know who the boss was, I tried to find it out and just had a chat.
00:06:20
Speaker
And it worked really well until I got drunk.
00:06:25
Speaker
How many bars did you go to before you realized you pissed? Well, I mean, and I could definitely, i but my biggest, the biggest problem is is that I, I went to one bar and it's like a 5% up, but I hadn't had anything to eat either.
00:06:40
Speaker
And, and then I went to another bar and had a little, like, and i was just getting little beers, yeah? lately Like a, like a small glass. Yeah. But then, We went to Brigg.
00:06:51
Speaker
We actually had an appointment at Brigg for 2 o'clock, Brigg Oslo, and met with the guys there. And whilst I was there, I was like, oh, there's this triple on tap that Hornbruggerie has ah done ah with this as supposed to home you know national champion home brewer.
00:07:13
Speaker
I've got to give this try. you know, obviously because I have my own triple, so it's kind of nice to taste difference, yeah? And without even realizing, I necked this 9.5% beer in in a few minutes, and it went straight to my head.
00:07:28
Speaker
ah as I left a meeting spinning. does does that tell you that Does that tell you that maybe it was a good beer? i mean...
00:07:41
Speaker
Yes. i mean, ah personally, i it wasn't anything that I would have like written home about, but yeah. immediately yeah but but da da da da ah but but but but but Take that home.
00:07:54
Speaker
Well, I mean, it was, it was, it was a classic triple. And in that sense, it's, it's kind of, there's nothing wrong with it at all, but it wasn't unique.
00:08:08
Speaker
In the sense that it wasn't, you know, like you would go, wow, that was a really different triple, you know? So, and that kind of, for that, in that side of things, it was a pretty, yeah pretty boring, I guess.
00:08:21
Speaker
But, um, But definitely, i mean, I finished the glass, so it can't have been bad, let's be honest. so so So what was the results of these sales meetings and getting drunk?
00:08:33
Speaker
Radio fucking silence. I mean, actually I actually really like a lot of good conversations, a lot of good talks. Like, I mean, I talked to the guys at Brig about doing a tap takeover there when when I get enough beers in the range and then do a launch of particular beer.
00:08:51
Speaker
And they'll just buy like three kegs of each and we'll just do a tap takeover and, you know, I have like five, six beers, whatever I have available on tap and then, you know, just sell those out.
00:09:03
Speaker
So that's really good marketing for me and also a really good, a nice boost in sales. um So like there's a positive things that happened and then i followed up with all my It's like price lists and sales information and and all the rest and then didn't hear anything.
00:09:24
Speaker
But that's that's normal. I mean, yeah most nice people just sit on that information and then, you know, when they're ready to order a beer, for example, when they order at the beginning of the week for the following weeks and months, then they do that. So...
00:09:41
Speaker
That's kind of a bit of a waiting game. Find out what so what's happening next and and see if those kind of meetings pay off. So, yeah.
00:09:53
Speaker
So that's it. And then what else did I got crazy in the coconut this week. Sounds like a metaphor, Kieran.
00:10:03
Speaker
a Well, actually, it wasn't really a metaphor. Okay. um So, I mean, if you guys remember, like, I've been toying with the idea of making, like, a coconut IPA.
00:10:18
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. so I looked into all these different, like, coconut options, and one of which I came across is,
00:10:30
Speaker
Unfortunately, like only because it's um not necessarily in and the proper way of doing it. I say that in inverted commas, a coconut aroma, like an extract aroma that you could commercial aroma.
00:10:45
Speaker
And this one's actually purchased from Armandson. So there's something that they use in their own beers. Most, I think only in their darker beers, but I don't, I haven't seen them ever release anything in an IPA.
00:10:59
Speaker
And I tested it with an IPA at home and like not in a like in a brewed full batch, but just e doing some drops in ah in a glass.
00:11:10
Speaker
Right. Yeah. And um it turned out pretty good. Like it tastes pretty good. Like Lynn liked it. She was like, yeah, this is great. Like a coconut, like tropical.
00:11:23
Speaker
It's like a, what do you call like a tropical juice in a know that tropical coconut thing. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking it is, right? I think definitely like tropical juice, you know, you've got that real juicy, hoppy i taste and and thick mouthfeel, right?
00:11:40
Speaker
Yeah. then And then you've got the coconut finish. Yeah. and So the aroma, it's an aroma. So it is like mostly on the aroma, but you get a lot of the flavor. Like because so much of our taste perception has to do with smell, ah you get like get the flavor as well, but it's it's more subdued in the aroma.
00:12:05
Speaker
It's definitely more on the aroma side of things. So finding a balance in a commercial brewd beer will be challenging, but also has a lot of potential.
00:12:16
Speaker
So that's exciting. And that means that like, you know, that kind of product I can actually add to a commercial beer without any a real risk. and The biggest challenge you have with like actually using toasted coconut or something like that.
00:12:32
Speaker
is you're just introducing a fuckton oxygen and then it just turns to like this wet cardboard beer.
00:12:41
Speaker
that's what happens when beer oxidizes. For those who have out there have opened like a can, especially these hazy IPAs, and it kind of just tastes like wet cardboard almost, you've got an oxidized beer.
00:12:54
Speaker
so And that means it's it hasn't. it's And if you look at the used by date, it's probably close to if not out of date. what And that's what happens. what this whole sort Hold Who is tasting wet cardboard and knows what that tastes like?
00:13:12
Speaker
Well, I mean, it's a matter me. What but do you mean you've never eaten wet cardboard?
00:13:24
Speaker
So, yep, that's what's been happening with me. So, yeah, I think, you know, was thinking before we jump into what happened to you, Joss,
00:13:35
Speaker
I mean, it's time to hop into a ah new ah new segment. A new segment. A new segment of the show.
00:13:45
Speaker
I don't have music lined up for this. Don't worry. I'll sort you out. All right. Yep, I'm ready. All right. Steve, mean, Justin, what's your drink? What's your drink?
00:13:55
Speaker
steve i mean justin what's your drink what's your drink
00:14:04
Speaker
That was worse rendition of a really bad podcast segment. we don who
00:14:13
Speaker
So what is your drink, Justin? Oh, well, I figure nine o'clock in the morning, yeah why not go for a mystery can? Oh, a mystery. i like a mystery can. I don't know what's in this. It's probably one of my mystery cans, I imagine. It is one of your cans.
00:14:30
Speaker
yeah I don't know what's in this. Okay. Crack. Ooh, I like that sound. Good carbonation. Yeah.
00:14:43
Speaker
Oh, I'm going to say this is a...
00:14:48
Speaker
I don't know. Oh, I think it's a...
00:14:53
Speaker
I'm going to say that's a a anointing citra. Look at that head. Beautiful anointing citra, for sure. Yeah, i think it is, actually, because it smells quite fruity. and i have really I've started to really like these ones.
00:15:10
Speaker
Yeah. They're coming around on me. They're like, there's something nice about it. It is very fruity beer. And yeah, it's sweet, but it's not so bad now. I don't feel like, least I think. I actually feel it's aging a little bit. I think, you know, a few weeks of current conditioning in and it's actually turned out pretty good. so Kieran, it's not a bad beer.
00:15:36
Speaker
Yeah. Okay, actually, this one had a bit of, a like, in your terms, an astringent aftertaste. But it could be to just the fact that I didn't wash the glass. I mean, how cold is it?
00:15:51
Speaker
it It was cold. Yeah, that's also part of it, too because you get that bitterness from when you drink beer to cold. So... On to my mystery.
00:16:04
Speaker
ah my My mystery. scary yeah I'm like, i i took it out of the fridge, Lindner's to him, and I said, ah might be getting pissed on the podcast today.
00:16:16
Speaker
ah ah For those who can't see, I'm holding up a very large bottle of what is the Belgian Quad. So, are you ready? like um'm I'm hoping it's carbonated because I've been keeping this one bit warmer than usual to see if it carbonates. You ready?
00:16:36
Speaker
Ah, fuck. It didn't sound very good. No, it didn't sound good at all. All right. But anyway, well, let's get into a glass. It's pouring flat as shit, so it's not carbonated. It does look like motor oil.
00:16:50
Speaker
Yeah. So I've got it. That's clear. I've got it now. I've got to open up all these bottles and and add some priming yeast, like bottle conditioning yeast to it.
00:17:01
Speaker
So there you go. Lessons learned, but let's give it ah a little taste. Oh, it smells so nice. Smells like kind of like a toffee and
00:17:15
Speaker
like figs and plums.
00:17:23
Speaker
Oh, yeah. e Oh, yeah. Oh, it's like it's got so much fruit going on, like kind of dried fruit, like figs and raisin.
00:17:40
Speaker
It's kind of sweet as well. it's like barely tasted. It's like 12%. It's just like easy drinking, that's for sure.
00:17:53
Speaker
I want to clear something up right now. e There's a perception because you and i are Australian that we're like alcoholics pretty much because that is the stereotype of Australians, right?
00:18:04
Speaker
don't know what you're talking about. We are drinking at nine o'clock in the morning. yeah okay 12% beer at nine o'clock in the morning. Yeah, to appease Steve, basically. That's what we're, let's be honest.
00:18:18
Speaker
and Nothing says a quality podcast like trying to compete with another podcast.
00:18:25
Speaker
it I don't think we can compete, let's be honest. No. don' know we've We've got too much hair. yeah oh You're phrased to us as like hairy koalas.
00:18:42
Speaker
I know. Yeah. I don't even understand that. He's just jealous. He's just jealous.
00:18:52
Speaker
But I would say, though, like, I'm not a big drinker at all. Like, i probably have a beer maybe once a week. yeah Like, i really don't drink at all. And, you know it sounds like on your sales meetings, you also don't drink that much either. It's like i relax three beers and I'm fucking... wo Yeah.
00:19:15
Speaker
No, I really don't, to be honest. Well, can you explain to me, like... Like, since you don't you're not, like, an alcoholic. You're not drinking beer all the time. but No. Like, why is brewing beer interesting for you?
00:19:30
Speaker
It's the flavor. ah like the flavor. ah like the taste, the experience of of all that. Yeah? Like, um
00:19:44
Speaker
the creativity too, right? Like, the creativity, this the way of, like, bringing different ideas to ah fruition in something that is a liquid that people can enjoy and share. Like, that's what I like.
00:19:59
Speaker
So, yeah. I think it's the same as cooking, right? Yeah, it is. Like, it's it's basically an extension of cooking. You know, the the biggest thing with cooking is is that, like, the only way I could really ever cook something and share it with people is if I opened a restaurant.
00:20:17
Speaker
And, you know, I mean, I can obviously cook for my friends and stuff, but it's very limited view. But the scaling it up and making a thing, in them yeah I ain't a chef, nor do I really want to be.
00:20:30
Speaker
Those guys work way too hard. And, yeah, so I'm just like, yeah, well, I think beer is a good medium medium for that. Yeah. Being able to share things and and experiment and do have some fun. yeah.
00:20:46
Speaker
And you don't have to be an alcoholic to enjoy a beer every so once a while. No. You don't have to go to a ah podcast every week and get blotto.

Content Creation and Custom Builds

00:20:59
Speaker
Shots fired. Shots fired. and and Take that. Three Northern Makers podcast. oh Anyway, enough. What's been happening in your week, Justin? What's happening in the garage?
00:21:15
Speaker
I have been feeling like a YouTube failure. yeah ah It's now been like six weeks since I put out a video.
00:21:26
Speaker
Yeah. And it feels horrible. Because I should have had ah the The snowmobile project out already, but due unforeseen delays, it's not even shot yet. Chinese New Year or whatever it is.
00:21:47
Speaker
Yeah. And, you I've been working on this World Rally car, of course, as well. And that takes up a huge amount of time. There's so many little details in this project that no one cares about.
00:22:00
Speaker
yeah But they need to be done to make it functional, right? so like on the video side of things, like you shoot nothing. But on the work side of things, you're working your tail off.
00:22:13
Speaker
yeah yeah it's it i feel like a failure and i know it's a silly thing to feel like because i am working i'm working towards something i've got projects on the go in fact you know pretty much right now the the world rally car i need to put some tires on and some small other parts and it's ready to drive which would be sick right but I'm still waiting for some small things and waiting for some tires to, yeah.
00:22:44
Speaker
So I could talk about that. um But generally I've been feeling like a bit of a YouTube failure. and And I don't know really how to change that besides just getting over it and just keep on working because no one really cares.
00:23:02
Speaker
No one is like, any of me DMs going, hey, it's been six weeks. Yeah.
00:23:11
Speaker
ah If one of you dickbags decide to send me a DM now and ask me about my video, I will send you a very lovely message back, actually, tro to be honest, because I'm not um not a mean person.
00:23:29
Speaker
ah But, yeah, i I have been working, though, despite feeling like a failure. Yeah. This week, i this week I've been working on the floor pan for the World Rally car.
00:23:45
Speaker
Yeah, sweet. I did see you um story. It looked good. Yeah, so I got just some two millimeter aluminum plate.
00:23:56
Speaker
ah Actually, Frederick, what an absolute legend. He just sends me a message couple weeks back. He sends me this message. He's like, hey, I've got this giant sheet of two millimeter aluminum.
00:24:09
Speaker
Do you want it? I'm like, yeah, thanks. So I just went to his house, picked it up. ah And so I've used that for the floor. And also last time I was there with Henry, that he had like a ah plate bender.
00:24:28
Speaker
ah So I just borrowed that. And that helped a lot, you know, so getting the bends in their right positions stuff like that. i think So now I have arse protection, as I call it, because the seat sits lower than the chassis.
00:24:44
Speaker
So any potential rocks that I might might drive over could potentially ah recreate a bigger anus or so So I don't want that. so nobody Nobody really needs like a fucking rock enema.
00:25:02
Speaker
No.
00:25:06
Speaker
So i I've put a plate underneath now that sort of follows down and underneath the seat. So I have some arse protection, which is great. you um And I also remade the floor, like the cover.
00:25:22
Speaker
ah plate So basically where your feet are. There was an old plate. I could have reused it, but it just looked raggedy. And I just thought, you know what? I'm bending this up. I've got plenty material. Let's just remake it.
00:25:35
Speaker
yeah um and So i I've done that. And then i also fixed the radiator into position. and So ah basically I've had to move the radio radiator in to the body of the the go-kart because it used to be on the side.
00:25:55
Speaker
So basically used to get a lot of airflow from, from the, you know, the air moving over the, as you drive. Right. So, but I've had to move it in and because I have to move it in, it's kind of behind my body.
00:26:12
Speaker
And so either you got to get like, what do you need some airflow on the, actual radio, yeah? yeah Yeah, so I've actually just installed a fan. thought you were just going to fart a lot.
00:26:27
Speaker
Yeah. Well, I could, but then ah I'll tell you- You die inside that thing. i'll tell Yeah. I'll tell you what happens when you find a lot. I'll tell you later in this podcast.
00:26:41
Speaker
um So, yeah. So basically I've put on a, like, so- I have a radiator from the cross cart that I bought originally for this project, which had a Yamaha R6 engine on it, or still does.
00:26:58
Speaker
Still haven't worked out what I'm going to do with this Yamaha R6 engine and this cross cart in the garage. ah It feels like a bigger project than I can ever take on right now. Yeah. so it's just going to sit there for a little bit and we'll see how it goes.
00:27:14
Speaker
The...
00:27:17
Speaker
Radiator had a fan on it, so I basically just ripped that off. And now I've installed a a small fan on the backside of the radiator, so it's going to suck the air through the radiator and cool it down. And I'm going to attach that to a thermostat.
00:27:33
Speaker
So basically when the engine is a certain temperature, the fan will run and make sure the engine stays cool. Sweet. Yeah. So I'm pretty happy with that, I think. Everything is sort of coming together. Like I said, just waiting on some parts. I've got ah fuel lines coming, I realized that I had this ah this ah PVC, ah like or I don't think it's PVC. I don't know what type of plastic it is.
00:28:00
Speaker
But I realized after doing some research, like I can't just use any pipe on the fuel system. Potentially, the fuel could damage the pipes or you know the the plastic starts dissolving and that goes in the into the fuel and then that gets burnt and then damage the engine. So yeah I don't want to any of that. So I decided i was going to go online and buy some proper fuel lines for, for the go-kart.
00:28:26
Speaker
Yeah. ah So I'm waiting for them to be delivered along with some other fluids, some, um, brake fluid. The, I bought just some crappy build tema, um, four dot or dot four,
00:28:43
Speaker
um brake fluid, but I realized like, oh, wait a sec. I can't just be putting shitty oils into this thing. This is kind of supposed to be a race car.
00:28:55
Speaker
So how about I just go online? And it turned out it was the same price. and Like, okay, admittedly, slightly smaller bottle, but same price for the high-quality brake fluid. So I just bought that as well.
00:29:11
Speaker
So I've got some stuff coming on the way, some clutch parts as well. was missing some bushings and things like that for the for the clutch ah wire assembly. And I'm still waiting on parts, obviously, for this snowmobile from PCBWay.
00:29:26
Speaker
Come on, China! I like... it's hard to It's hard to be angry at them. Because it's... You're getting all of them. I'm getting for free.
00:29:39
Speaker
One. Two. Like, those motherfuckers probably work their asses off. True. that Making... dumb parts for stupid YouTubers, right? and here I imagine that it makes up majority of their work, Justin, making dumb parts for YouTubers.
00:30:00
Speaker
But, you know, they They deserve a holiday, so I have to just accept it. But I did send a message because it's been stuck in quality control for two weeks now.
00:30:11
Speaker
Yeah. So I'm like, come on. like Something has to happen. Something has to move. it's like It's obviously finished machining. Someone just needed to check it and send it on its way. So I sent a message to my contact at PCBWay.
00:30:24
Speaker
Hopefully, they'll get back to me and things will start moving. But... I don't know what it's like outside your window right now, but it's raining and it's horrible weather. All the snow is melting and I just feel like I've missed my window.
00:30:40
Speaker
yeah What are you going to do if that like if there's no more snowfall locally? I have to go inland. yeah I have to find somewhere. Maybe someone wants me to drive this thing at their place and they know ah they have a trail or they just have some fields that I could drive this in. Yeah, or something, right?
00:31:02
Speaker
Let me know because you know basically I don't want to get in trouble driving this thing around in ah in a place I shouldn't be. So if someone has like ah property or property just a place that they know I can drive it without being hassled, like, let me know. Please send your DMs to me because i I'm a little bit worried now because this was going to be, this project was supposed to be finished like four weeks ago. Yeah.
00:31:28
Speaker
And now now all the snow is gone. Everything's melted. i feel like ah very much missed my window. And also i miss I feel like I missed the YouTube window too, Yeah. We're coming at the end of so end of winter now. People are not really interested in these projects anymore. So I feel like I've just blown a bunch of money on this project and now it might potentially flop.
00:31:54
Speaker
And I just feel a little bit disappointed in that. Yeah. ah And I am also waiting for ah my friend Thomas to start 3D printing the car, the World Valley car.
00:32:07
Speaker
ah No, I really can't complain. He's such a nice dude. He's helping me out so much. ah We've never really talked about money, like financial compensation for this.
00:32:18
Speaker
But if the video does well, I will compensate him for his time because it is so much work to get these prints done. And there's so much material going into this project.
00:32:30
Speaker
So I definitely want to compensate him for that. But he's been busy and hasn't been able to get this project going yet. So I've basically got...
00:32:42
Speaker
Two projects finished. Yeah, just waiting. ready do Waiting to be tested. And then that basically allowed me to look at the the new project, um which I kind of put together yesterday.
00:32:58
Speaker
but before I did that, i decided going What's the new project? Well, let me get on to this part. I decided that I was going to clean the workshop because it was just chaos. Right. Right.
00:33:11
Speaker
So like I was cleaning the workshop and um there's ah you know there's something satisfying about when things are all in order, right? Yeah.
00:33:21
Speaker
And just simple stuff. Like there was there's metal filings everywhere. Like when you're grinding and stuff, shit's just flying everywhere. ah Just literally vacuuming it all up and like sweeping all the the off cuts off and putting them in the scrap and because normally what would happen is i just walk in and step all on top of it all and just grind some more and you know it's just yeah yeah so that was super nice just to get that done right just to get the project get the workshop in order and i felt
00:33:56
Speaker
clearer in my head that I could do this yeah and move on to the next project. But what was interesting though is that I, when I was cleaning the workshop, had a bit of a tummy issue.
00:34:14
Speaker
And I was quite gassy, so I was basically walking around the workshop, vacuuming, farting a lot, you know ah laughing about It ha ha it stinks. hu you know when eats cabbage is I the funny thing where I farted with the vacuum cleaner to my butthole.
00:34:35
Speaker
I just suck it away. i mean i was And then I was cleaning up the table saw area and i I decided was going to let one rip. I let one rip and I was like, oh, that was a little bit more than a fart.
00:34:53
Speaker
Oh, the shot. It's a worse feeling. The shot. Oh, yeah. Yep. So although my workshop was clean, I did not feel clean at all.
00:35:07
Speaker
ah ah So I embarrassingly had to go into the house yeah and have a shower. The shower. Kristen's like, what are you doing in the shower? Didn't you have a shower already today? like, yeah, yeah, yeah. I just felt like I needed another shower, babe. She's like, oh, fair enough. She walked out and I'm like...
00:35:28
Speaker
Shit, I better wash those undies. Oh, man. It was not cool. At least you were at home, not like in a public space or something. that's true.
00:35:43
Speaker
Yeah. Oh, there's a certain mutual friend of ours that we shall remain unnamed. And he was on the way home from somewhere or other.
00:35:55
Speaker
and on on a train and shotted himself and and then had to, like, get home from the train station.
00:36:06
Speaker
Couldn't even catch a cab because he stunk so bad that the cab driver would have kicked him out. Who was this? I don't remember. say They shall remain unnamed. Say his name. I'll bleep it out. I don't even know.
00:36:21
Speaker
Say his name, Karen. Karen. I hate to know so I can hold it against him. That was one.
00:36:30
Speaker
ah interesting. Okay. Yeah, right. i That's unfortunate yeah for him. Imagine going all the way from Epping Station up to his place.
00:36:43
Speaker
Oh, that's not fun.
00:36:50
Speaker
Yep. So you sharded yourself in the workshop. that's is that a first? Yeah, that's the first time that's ever happened. and it was thought It was not a pleasant experience.
00:37:02
Speaker
What have you been eating? don't know. i Actually, I think there's a bit of a bug going around. Oh, really? I've had a bit of a, like what you call it, loose tummy for ah for a couple of days. and Yeah, we leave you know me was just so old was not a a little bit of a loose tummy.
00:37:20
Speaker
Shut up. Yep. Yep. So, yeah, that I think it was just something to do with that because, unfortunately, I think Kristen got the same. Yeah.
00:37:30
Speaker
Did she shot herself? but Not that you told me. I didn't tell her either. She's going to hear that here about this on the podcast. That's why you were sharing. You filthy man.
00:37:44
Speaker
There's no wonder those undies smelt like shit. Yeah. ah Yep. e But going back onto the new project. Yeah. Enough about sharding yourself.
00:38:02
Speaker
I'm pretty excited about this, actually. i So I've been toying with this idea for a long time. Now, I've been thought thinking about this idea about a jet-powered skateboard. And I was like, really, so contacted longboard company. and They were interested, but like, didn't give me any so concrete sort of answer. Hmm.
00:38:26
Speaker
And then i was looking at whole bunch of parts. I was like, oh, I'm just go get some massive EDF fans. Yeah. i like So the ones I have on the ah spark or the yeah sled are 90 millimeters.
00:38:41
Speaker
Yeah. So they're not actually that big. No. But then if you go up 120 millimeters, you get twice the thrust that you get from, ah more than double the thrust you get from a 90 millimeter one.
00:38:55
Speaker
Yeah. So i was thinking two those. So with with two of those, i could get around about 18 kilos of thrust, which is pretty impressive. Yeah, that's pretty good. Like if you're on like an ice rink or something.
00:39:12
Speaker
you're for sure dead. um So that was that was going to be cool. I was like, right, this is going cool. So I decided...
00:39:24
Speaker
Before I go invest in this, because i So you needed... like it was going to cost around about, with tax, about 14,000 kronos to this thing. Yeah.
00:39:37
Speaker
So I decided that I was going to look into this, double check that this was a good idea, because to be honest... I don't have a lot of money. I'm spending it all on this stupid world rally car on a bet that it's going to work out and a stupid snow scooter that it's going to work out.
00:39:52
Speaker
ah So I decided, right, I'll go look into this. so And then I just started on YouTube just looking at people that have made something similar. And none of the videos did well at all.
00:40:06
Speaker
Right. None. None. And I just realized, wait, this is silly. Like, if there are videos that have been sitting here for seven years and they get 13,000 views, like maybe this isn't.
00:40:22
Speaker
And the thumbnails were decent. like Yeah, I just, even the top, like there was a a video made by JL Lazier, I think. He's a big YouTuber.
00:40:36
Speaker
And even that video had only 200,000 views on it. For him, he like all his other videos, millions, millions of views. So i just realized ah this is a pretty bad decision to spend 14,000 kroners on a project that's not going to do well.
00:40:57
Speaker
you So I decided to go back to the drawing board and look at a project that I know that will do well. Which is? I've been thinking about turning one of these hand trucks, the ones I built go-kart from, into a motorcycle.
00:41:14
Speaker
Okay. Okay. So the first idea that I was going to do is I was going to make it into like a mini bike. So with go-kart wheels, basically. Yeah. ye So it kind of looks small, low and fat.
00:41:27
Speaker
Yeah. ah But then, i don't know, something got to me. and I was just like, what I've got this pit bike that Frederick gave me that's busted up.
00:41:41
Speaker
And I've also got a bunch of other parts. like I'll just drag everything out of the shed. So I just started dragging everything out of the shed and putting it on the floor instead of just propping it all up and mocking it together.
00:41:53
Speaker
And so I end up mocking it up like a chopper. Yeah, nice. With these big fat tires and the big front forks and the big wheel front wheel at the front. yeah And I just thought, yeah, nice.
00:42:06
Speaker
Yeah, that's what I'm going to build. so I think that's the next big project is a chopper made from a hand truck. It does look really cool. Could be like American chopper style.
00:42:19
Speaker
Yeah, but better. But better. Yeah. So I've been better than the show with millions of viewers. worldwide found base better than that. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, okay.
00:42:35
Speaker
So I've been writing a parts list of things I need to buy to get this project up and running. There's basically a bunch of parts I need for the engine to make sure that that even runs. I don't even know that it runs. it's Which engine are you going to use?
00:42:50
Speaker
So there was an engine on this pit bike. Okay. It's a 125... it's a one two five four stroke. I think it works. I don't know.
00:43:03
Speaker
So I'm going to buy ah bunch of parts basically just to make sure it's working. And then once I know it works, then I can start building the bike basically.
00:43:14
Speaker
Yeah. So there's a lot of stuff to think about. You know, I want to use this big fat rear which means that I need this wheel, different type of wheel that you'd normally use for a like a motorbike.
00:43:28
Speaker
to go on it. yeah so There's a lot of lot of extra stuff I have to start thinking about. so it's it's ah It's kind of complicated. so that that's kind of What's new, Justin? Kind of complicated.
00:43:43
Speaker
Garadventify it. yeah It's definitely Garadventified.
00:43:52
Speaker
Buy a t-shirt, people. My store is empty, by the way. What do you mean, empty? No one's buying anything. yeah I don't blame people. Things are yeah like, who's going to buy so shitty merch from for me, let's be honest.
00:44:09
Speaker
I don't know. we know yeah People just need to push sometimes. kind of like the way that people buy things these days is different than it ever has been. Yeah. like So I think out of all the products I've got there, like the hat is really good.
00:44:26
Speaker
Yeah, I like that. Yeah, the hat's super nice, high quality, fits perfect, like a yeah real nice hat. The t-shirt quality is really good too. i um That's why they're so expensive because it's proper quality.
00:44:43
Speaker
tough You know, that it's like a heavy weight t-shirt. So yeah you really feel like it's solid. Like you you can wash this a thousand times and it's going to be fine. Yeah. ah You know, and even just the the t-shirt with the sick print on it with the guy spewing.
00:45:02
Speaker
i think I wear that all the time. It's actually pretty good. So i'm I'm fairly happy with the quality. There's only one item that I think is a bit crap, but left it on there because it's a bit on the lower price point, which helps people, I guess.
00:45:19
Speaker
yeah And that's the the the hoodie, the zipper hoodie. you So the print quality on that garment is not the best.
00:45:31
Speaker
But if you go to spend a little bit more money on the actual hoodie without the zipper, he ah you know, obviously a lot more expensive. hey It's about 300 kroners more expensive. Yeah. Okay. Wow.
00:45:46
Speaker
Yeah. But quality way better. so Buy some merch, people. Go Avenger.com. Exactly. Go buy some merch.
00:45:58
Speaker
I really appreciate that. if I don't make that much money off this stuff too, by the way. like you Everyone thinks like, oh shit, you're going charge 320 kroners, don't think it is, for a t-shirt.
00:46:10
Speaker
That's nothing. Come on, man. you you buy You can't buy a t-shirt at Carlings for under 400. Yeah, but I mean, I'm barely making 20 kroners on that.
00:46:21
Speaker
on that Yeah, yeah, but i mean, but but my point is is that like, you know, like Carlings, which is like a known brand, like named store, you can't buy a fucking t-shirt less than 400 there.
00:46:34
Speaker
Yeah, right. So it's just like, you know, what's 300 crowns on a t-shirt, especially to support someone you believe in? Nothing. Get on it, people.
00:46:47
Speaker
Get on it. love that you think that way. I think the opposite. I'm like, oh why would you spend any money on me?
00:46:56
Speaker
that's why That's your failure mindset, Justin. That's true. i mean I mean, I really appreciate all my patrons, actually. Thanks, Justin.
00:47:08
Speaker
yeah i have a bunch of amazing patrons. I commit, just to be clear, eye commit I can't remember which tier I'm on. I can't even remember.
00:47:19
Speaker
I appreciate your commitment, Karen. Yeah, but I mean, like, you're my brother and I'm still giving you money. Stick around in the garage. I mean, I'm proud of what you're doing in the garage, but yeah.
00:47:33
Speaker
Maybe I should start a Eucharist Brewing Patreon. ah You definitely should. Yeah. i um I sort of now going on my Patreon just to have a look at who's sort of there. And I have such, I have 41 members, but not all of them are paying. ah there's a lot of free members and that's okay. That's ah free members.
00:47:55
Speaker
Can you be a free member of Patreon? Yeah. Yeah, you can. But to be honest, I don't give anything to any of those free people. Like, I post occasionally on there for the free members, but like for the members that pay things, I, they're the ones to get the early video releases, they're the ones that get the the new update videos and things like that. So Yeah. um I'd appreciate you guys if you if you love what I do and support this ah podcast and support what I do in the garage.

The Power of Community Support

00:48:28
Speaker
ah Head over to Patreon, sign up to Garage Avenger. ah you know Every little bit counts. Absolutely. Even if it's a dollar like a month. it's just you know Think about that.
00:48:41
Speaker
You get 100 people signing up for a dollar or a month. that makes a big difference for me. Yeah. Right. Big difference. That that's the difference between buying the expensive carburetor over, you know, the Chinese one, you know, when you decide to like, Oh, I'm going to spend a little bit of money on this project.
00:49:03
Speaker
And then you realize like, I don't have any money to spend on this project. Uh, though that small amount of money, why should people care about whether you buy the,
00:49:13
Speaker
expensive or cheap carburetor? Well, the projects last longer and potentially like they're better to watch. because it goes faster or it, you know, I had the money to buy the different sprocket that goes on the back, right? So there's a- Which means you nearly kill yourself.
00:49:34
Speaker
Yeah, basically. If you want to see myself killed on on camera, you know, basically send your money to me and I'll make sure that it happens. Yeah. It's it's small stuff, right? Because I like- It's like that that Patreon, you know,
00:49:51
Speaker
Pays for the nitros, like the the NOS kit. Well, I mean, here's ah here's another thing, right? It's fuel. Yeah, right? Literal fuel to put in the To put in these things yeah that I build, right?
00:50:06
Speaker
Like every little bit counts because, for example, I'm basically running on fumes in this operation. Like I discussed before, like I spent $100,000. I'm $100,000 in the red last year. yeah know it's like I can't maintain this forever.
00:50:24
Speaker
I have to start making some money ah to be able to make things meet. And it's not the listeners or my patrons' responsibility to make ends meet is mine.
00:50:36
Speaker
Don't get me wrong here. ah But to help me on that way, Every little bit counts. Yeah. So then I'll just say it out of loud.
00:50:46
Speaker
If you'd love to sign up, please do. Patreon.com forward slash garage of it. Yeah. I imagine that's what the address is. Yeah, that's exactly it. There you Hmm.
00:51:00
Speaker
And maybe, maybe Eucharist Brewing will start its own Patreon at some point. But so you know what you should do yeah What should I do, Justin? Start a Patreon and then when they sign up to a certain tier, they get free beers sent out to them.
00:51:17
Speaker
Yeah. Test brews and things like that. Yeah. Basically, you sign up for Patreon for bugger all money. Right. yeah Like probably, ah so let's just say on average, like if you sign up for 100 kroners kron is a ah month, right?
00:51:37
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. which is not really that much money, and somehow you get two cans of beer. Like it's paid for. It's paid for itself.
00:51:48
Speaker
yeah. Right? So maybe that's something you should do, Kieran, like have a thing where people sign up to certain tiers. I mean, not candidly selling alcohol.
00:52:00
Speaker
You're not selling it. You're giving it away. It's samples. It's testing. That's right. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I mean, it's absolutely, I mean, that could be, and then like that that kind of money, you know, hundred if if it was 100 pounds a month and I had, you know, even 10 people, ah that's that's ingredients paid for for the next beer. Yeah.
00:52:23
Speaker
you know, to test and to develop. So, you know. You're basically funding i yeah an artist in the brewery. Yeah, I mean, like, and you could you can make, you could get a bottle. This is fucking, I'm just going to say this, Justin.
00:52:41
Speaker
This, although it's flat and not carbonated, this quad is fucking tasty. Like, so good. Good, man. Mm-hmm. There's so much flavor and complexity going on this. I'm so happy with this beer.
00:52:57
Speaker
So, anyway, just that had to be said. so anyway. There you go, people. If Kieran had a patron, you could be drinking the... I could be sending you a bottle of this beer.
00:53:12
Speaker
Yeah. There you pretty cool, though. yeah So, I'm glad we talked about this because it actually means a lot more than... most people think just the, the small amount of cash inflow to things that things just make things a little bit easier.
00:53:29
Speaker
So i want to give a big shout out to this guy, Sylvester, who's been supporting me for God knows how many years now. And I just so grateful for this dude. He is just committed. Sylvester fucking champion.
00:53:50
Speaker
a yeah But there are, of course, many others that support me and I could rattle off a list. Maybe that's something we should start doing in the podcast as well, like giving a shout out to those people that really do support us.
00:54:05
Speaker
Absolutely. ah so ah maybe for next week, i i'll I'll put together a little segment where I can do that because I really appreciate every one of you guys because It's just the small little things help, and I really appreciate that.
00:54:21
Speaker
um We can have Patreon competition, Justin. Ooh. Which one of us has more Patreons this week? Oh, yeah, it's who signed up. yeah ah who Yeah, how many sign-ups did you get this week, Justin? Yeah, but I have this feeling that they'll, like, drop me and then I'll sign up to you. They'll be like, free beer!
00:54:43
Speaker
Why is that good enough?
00:54:47
Speaker
They'll be like, ah, screw that twin. he's what do i yeah let just get YouTube videos, not free beer.
00:54:57
Speaker
ah Well, I mean, if ah listen, I'm going to put it this way. If, if you're listening out there and you think, you know what? I could, I could donate 50, a hundred crowns a month.
00:55:08
Speaker
ah to support Ugris Brewing and what he's doing there. And if I happen to get a ah bottle of beer in the mail every now and then, you know, I could do that. if you if you If you honestly think, yeah, I'd like to do that, like send me a DM.
00:55:24
Speaker
i need, I'm going to say, I'm going to say. Give him a push. I'm going to say five people. I need five people. So if you're thinking, oh, no, he'll get five, like just fucking send me a message anyway say, like, I'd do it.
00:55:36
Speaker
I need five DMs to say i'm gonna i would support you and then and we'll make it happen. Nice. And then I'll make a new segment.
00:55:47
Speaker
Yeah. We're talking about segments, Kieran. Yeah. Double rainbow all the way across the sky. Mind blown.
00:56:01
Speaker
What's blowing your mind this week, Justin? No, I was going to ask you first. Well, I mean, you know what's blowing my mind, Justin?

Existential Musings and Real-World Scams

00:56:11
Speaker
We're going to go deep here. Oh. Yeah. and You know, we're like a cluster of atoms that forms consciousness.
00:56:21
Speaker
What the fuck? That deep. What the fuck? That's mind blown. Like we're literally just fucking balls of atoms and matter together that somehow can think.
00:56:38
Speaker
It's pretty amazing. Mind blown. um Right? Right, Double rainbow. It's so beautiful.
00:56:55
Speaker
What can it mean? If you've seen that that video, for those who don't know. um Yeah, that's my mind blown, Justin. love it.
00:57:07
Speaker
What's blowing your mind? Well, scammers. Scammers. Yeah, scammers are blowing my mind. So I watched a video this week from Blacktail Studios ah where he basically got contacted by the police to say, hey, is this you?
00:57:25
Speaker
And basically scammers had scammed this lady So he builds beautiful furniture, right? Right. And so scammers had ah scam posed as him and said, would you like a you know dining table made? Oh, yeah, sure. We can make that for you Just put a deposit down of $17,000 because it's a $36,000 table, right?
00:57:46
Speaker
Yeah. Custom built, right? ah So this lady put down the money, right? And thought she was getting a table and heard nothing back.
00:57:59
Speaker
And then, ah so he then decided that he was going to look into this. And then he found these type of scammers that were basically pretending to be him.
00:58:13
Speaker
Right. Right. right So they ah he's a YouTube channel, very well known, ah big channel, ah but these scammers were pretending to be him and sell products that you know apparently he sells.
00:58:28
Speaker
ah And so basically what in this video, he decided he was going to make the table for the lady that she ordered. Yeah, cool. For free. Yeah.
00:58:40
Speaker
And she she was going to get the table, but at the same time, he was going to screw with the scammers. And some of the stuff that came across was incredible. They they are using ai e so much now.
00:58:56
Speaker
So, like, for example, they sent him a video of himself. Right. Saying things that obviously he didn't say.
00:59:07
Speaker
And it was just an AI video that was created to look like him. Right. So anyone that... wasn't him would have thought, oh, maybe that's him.
00:59:18
Speaker
ah That's for sure him, right? Yeah. These scammers are getting so smart. It's blowing my mind. And they're using technology. And i I think too, like I got this ah got this invoice in the mail ah the other day and I just thought, there's something fishy about this. Like it looks so legit. It's come from FedEx.
00:59:41
Speaker
Yes, it's got the exact parcel details that exactly that, but it was missing like is there's missing some details. like It didn't have my email address.
00:59:52
Speaker
Neither had I gotten any email email about this like a amount that was owed. Yeah. The other side it was it didn't have like a kid number, which is what they use a lot here in Norway. Yeah.
01:00:07
Speaker
And it required you yeah it required you to go in into a portal and pay on a portal. And like I still haven't heard back from FedEx yet, but I found another email that I actually had dealt with them before with a completely different invoice. Yeah.
01:00:26
Speaker
And so I found that email and I sent an email to them asking them, is this a scam or is this real? Can you please tell me? Yeah. I didn't use the email. It was obviously on the paper.
01:00:40
Speaker
But scammers are getting tricky, man, and you really need to be smart. You can't just blatantly like pay something. You just have to look for those details. new Norwegians are prime for that shit.
01:00:53
Speaker
Yeah. Because they don't want to make fuss. Especially the older generation. Yeah, they don't want to make a fuss, so then they just, like, they'll never question it. Like, especially if it's for a small amount. Yeah, they think, like, oh, it's only 600 kroners, right? 600 kroners lot of money. Yeah, like, if you start adding, that if if you send out 10,000 emails, it's 600 kroners a pop, and yeah everyone pays one of those, far out be fucking laughing all the way to the bank.
01:01:20
Speaker
o So, yeah, it's scary. Absolutely. Yeah, scammers are getting crazy and it's blowing my mind because we just need to be careful. All of you guys listening, just be careful because it's getting out of hand these days.
01:01:36
Speaker
Like a lot of these people know that they can just squindle you, basically. Like this is the underpinning issue with AI, the degradation of truth.
01:01:49
Speaker
And trust, right? Trust, like what is what is real. And the worst thing is everything's online now. Like all our payment systems, everything. we can't just go to the organization and rock up with a bit of paper and say like, is this you?
01:02:04
Speaker
And they say yes or no, it's a scam. No, right? yeah We can't do that anymore. yeah so like I don't even know if I'll get an answer from FedEx about this bit of paper saying if it's a scam or not.
01:02:17
Speaker
So basically, i don't want to pay it if I don't know. so if it is legit, I'll just wait for an incasso. Yeah, they'll send you one. That's the best way, actually.
01:02:29
Speaker
that's ah that's a bit It's I don't pay any of my bills until they go to on in console. Just case they're a scam. Yep.
01:02:43
Speaker
but Go on, Justin. Tell me what's giving you the... Who does number two work for?
01:02:55
Speaker
but oh hey hey just grab a hold of something bite your lip and give a hell come on we're gonna get through this
01:03:08
Speaker
so Other than, like, literally sharting yourself this week.
01:03:14
Speaker
What's giving you the shits, Justin? Do tell. You know it's really giving me the shits right now? It's YouTube giving me fucking booty girl content. YouTube. Yeah, YouTube, man. Stop this shit.
01:03:29
Speaker
Fucking stop it. I'm so pissed. Like, now my YouTube for you homepage thing yeah is totally, okay, the video, the long form content videos, all good, but it comes up with shorts now, right? Yeah. On your home on your homepage. And,
01:03:46
Speaker
and 80% of them are fucking some girl in tight shorts or something. Like, who said I was watching this stuff? Stop giving it to me. No, stop it. No, was going to it and let's be honest, did you click on one of them?
01:04:00
Speaker
I have not clicked on them, but I have hovered over them. That's enough. That's a fucking enough. That's what i I'm pissed about, though. But why did it put it in my feed in the first place? Because you're a heterosexual male.
01:04:15
Speaker
Right. And I'm sorry, but that's not the place for this. Oh, it is because it makes money, right? I'm sorry. You're a part of the problem, Justin.
01:04:27
Speaker
Ha, ha, ha.
01:04:30
Speaker
I'm sorry. It gives me the mcshits, man. Like, ah it's hard enough on Instagram, right? Right. You go onto Instagram and all of a sudden, like, now it used to it used to be just on your For You page, right? on on Yeah.

Technology Frustrations and Authentic Connections

01:04:43
Speaker
On your, like, homepage or search page or whatever, you'd find all the booty girl stuff because you'd be like, oh, yeah, you're you're a warm-blooded male? Yeah, here you go Here's a serving of booties, right? Yeah, right.
01:04:56
Speaker
But now... on Instagram, you could just be scrolling on your feed and this type of videos come up. Like, I don't subscribe to any of this stuff and yet you're putting it in my face again.
01:05:09
Speaker
Stop it. It's the same with YouTube. Why? Stop. I don't want that in my feed. I'm there to watch some guy make some crazy shit o or watch some guy you know take some scammers on or something like this. I'm not there to watch some girl like flexing in front of a camera. like Stop it.
01:05:34
Speaker
I think, well, I mean, ken is are there controls for social media to limit those Things could you, I don't know. I actually haven't looked into this.
01:05:46
Speaker
I saw a video actually where a guy was talking about this exact phenomenon actually. And he said that he goes through and he like, especially on Instagram, he clicks that he dislikes this content, right? You can go into that thing and you yeah click dislike.
01:06:01
Speaker
And then he goes, it doesn't do anything. just keeps on giving it to him. Really? Hmm. Motherfuckers. So I thought it was like, all of a sudden it was like, I don't, I don't like booty girls. and then all of a sudden you get like, you know, like Mick abs, like homoerotic content. Yeah.
01:06:20
Speaker
oh yeah that's That's only like Pierre's phone. He's just got like half naked woodworking guys. Let me show you my wood.
01:06:35
Speaker
but a
01:06:39
Speaker
Oh, too funny. Oh. if Oh. You know what's giving me this? Yeah, you know what's giving me this shit this week? This week I was like, I went to ah the shops and I saw that there was a new range of ah wine spritzes, ready to drink wine spritzes, right?
01:07:04
Speaker
ah from a certain brand that I may have worked for at one point. Right. the The name of each, are the two that they've released are Sangria, and ah they call it a spritz, but it's very clearly based on an Aperol spritz.
01:07:25
Speaker
Right? Right. do you have um do Are you familiar with those two cocktails? Right. Sangria, yes, but the other one, no. Okay, just explain to the people what a sangria tastes like.
01:07:41
Speaker
I don't really remember because I have i don't really drink them. But I remember they're quite fruity. Fruity, but very whiny, very bitter, actually.
01:07:53
Speaker
It's got a lot of orange peel and a lot of and a cinnamon, which gives it a bitterness. And then you take it, it's typically made with a spicy Spanish wine.
01:08:04
Speaker
So it's got a lot of tannins, a lot of like bitterness to it. An Aperol spritz made with like cava or some kind of like ah like ah dry and carbonated wine, a like champagne.
01:08:21
Speaker
and then blended with Aperol, which is like a super bitter orange flavor. Right? So I got these drinks and thought, you know what? I'll give them a try. i go I'm curious what they're doing.
01:08:35
Speaker
Roos bros. Fucking just Roos Bruce. Straight up Roos Bruce. There was nothing that was bitter or like a proper cocktail about this, these drinks at all. It was- They were just sugary.
01:08:49
Speaker
Sugary, but not even like real sugar. Fucking aspartame, like sugar-free shit. And then I got like stuff on the label saying that it's like only 0.0 grams per liter sugar.
01:09:00
Speaker
but you know grams per lire sugar You know, Mike? Yeah, but it's full of aspartame, like the cancer causing fucking artificial sweetener, like with alcohol, with nothing. It's basically a Bacardi Breezer in a fucking can.
01:09:19
Speaker
And then they're calling it an Aperol Spritz. Like it literally tasted like Fanta with alcohol. It's like, and I'm like, Don't call it a fucking spritz if it's not a fucking spritz. i Just call it Rus Bruce.
01:09:37
Speaker
That's giving the fucking shits. Like if it's a sangria. would probably sell better if it was called Rus Bruce. Yeah. If it's a sangria, it's a fucking sangria, like a bitter spiced mulled wine that's cold, right? Yeah.
01:09:56
Speaker
and No, just like if it's literally, literally like and there's so much yeast off on this fucking like like they these like additives, there's like a lot of fucking codes on the on the ingredients.
01:10:11
Speaker
There's no real fucking flavor, no real fucking like anything about this. It's all just this false shit. And selling, and people lap this up.
01:10:22
Speaker
Like, this is the crazy thing. Like, there's so many people that have no idea what a sangria actually tastes like. No idea what a fucking Aperol spitz tastes like. So they're just kind of like, oh yeah, it's sweet and good. Like, and I just fucking love that shit, you know?
01:10:37
Speaker
and they just- yeah, i mean, that's the drinks industry in the- Oh, it's fucked. Sugar is fucked. Actually, sugary things are the last thing I want to drink most days.
01:10:48
Speaker
But the thing is, too, right, you put sugary drinks into your bloodstream. like It goes directly in. It's like the worst sugar you can drink.
01:10:59
Speaker
It's fully dissolvable. It doesn't work at all to absorb it. Yeah, and then all of a sudden you realize, like, oh, wait a second, I've got diabetes. Yeah, but hold on. It's sugar-free sugar, Justin. Yeah, I've got diabetes and cancer. What?
01:11:16
Speaker
So that's what's giving me the McFucking shits this week. Good, good. I love the passion in the McShits.
01:11:27
Speaker
I that. Like, I'm there on my go on, fucking booty girls on my YouTube channel. then you're like, oh, fake drinks, stupid companies. Well, I mean, you know, this is the irony of the situation, right?
01:11:42
Speaker
The same company makes Himkuk RTDs. They're like... One of the world's best bars makes their own brand of of drinks.
01:11:54
Speaker
And I think those drinks are actually quite acceptable as proper drinks, yeah? like And with good flavor, good like balance between you know drinkability and sweetness and all these kinds of things. like they're actually It's a cocktail bar, right?
01:12:11
Speaker
So they have to make a drink that's actually like a cocktail So you would think, like, hold on, let's learn. like Those are actually doing well, sale-wise, yeah? So like, let's fucking learn from them and, like, let's look at the kind of things they're using in those ingredients. We have the fucking ingredients list.
01:12:29
Speaker
We fucking make it for them, right? No, throw that shit out the window, add some fucking aspartame in there and some fucking artificial coloring and it's like, I'd be like, yeah, roost bruce and let's call it a sangria.
01:12:45
Speaker
It's just a fuck off. Fuck off. I'm sorry. I'm being woke up about this. That's those type of big companies that are out of touch. But they realize that I think they realize, unfortunately, that most people don't give a shit what they're putting in their bodies.
01:13:01
Speaker
Which is fucked. It's so fucked. Everyone's fucking robots. Oh, it drives me nuts. Yeah. Anyway, we can go down that rabbit hole way too long. Sorry. Sorry for the listeners. At least listen to my aggro about that. What can you recommend for this week, Justin?
01:13:20
Speaker
Ah, you need to sing the song, Karen. Recommendation, recommendation. What is your recommendation? Are you going record this at any time so I don't have to fucking sing it every week? No, it's funnier that you sing it every week. Right. I'm never going record it ever.
01:13:40
Speaker
You're going have to sing it every week. Okay. I am recommending that you call somebody. Ooh, I like that. like literally just call them up. No text messaging.
01:13:52
Speaker
Yep, no texting. Fuck texting. We've talked about this before. Texting sucks. ah Although texting has a place. So I do this thing occasionally where I send a text to people that I admire or ah think are doing something cool or interesting.
01:14:09
Speaker
And I'll literally send a text to like, hey, dude, last time we spoke, you were doing this. You freaking rock. You're absolute legend. you Yeah, right. have a Have a great day. That's all I say in the message. Nothing more. Nothing else. There's no the question. There's no like, just keep up the mad work. You're amazing.
01:14:29
Speaker
Yeah. Right? ah So approach this the same when i call people. Yeah. Not always, but like especially someone I haven't spoken to in a while. Mm-hmm.
01:14:42
Speaker
So yesterday i called Neemar Shahinian, the guy that helped me with the sled. Cool. And I just called him and I'm like, hey, how's it going? You're an absolute legend. Thanks for helping me out on this project, and I appreciate you. And, you know, what's but what's going on?
01:14:59
Speaker
boom It was a lovely, short conversation. didn't have to be crazy long. It wasn't like, ah you know, yeah. yeah I just felt those conversations are missing a lot of time.
01:15:14
Speaker
Most people think it's trivial, but if you got that call, you would think, oh how nice. Right. Yeah, right. Someone called me, right? Yeah. And, like, um actually was interested and gave me flattering compliments, right? Because because i like I admire Nima. He's, like, he told me that they're expanding their, like, space soup development program. Yeah.
01:15:36
Speaker
yeah And that now they're going to start making their own carbon fiber. crazy. Instead of outsourcing it. Yeah, cool. And yeah all this stuff, right? You know, and then It's so cool to hear what he's And then, of course, he's like, yeah, you should come to Oslo.
01:15:51
Speaker
and we could hang out. We could do you know blah, blah, blah. So maybe I'll do that. But honestly, it was just so nice just to pick up the phone and just say, hey, So that's my recommendation for you guys.
01:16:06
Speaker
Pick up the phone. and If you need someone to call, you can call me. Call Justin. Yeah, just to practice. You can literally call me. be like, hey, Justin, I'm practicing calling people.
01:16:20
Speaker
I just need to practice on you before I call somebody else. And I'll be like, oh, thanks. You're amazing. Thanks for listening to our podcast. yeah I'll get like one call maybe ah from from Kristen. But, you know.
01:16:36
Speaker
yeah Maybe call you, Justin. Honestly, yeah, maybe you can. ah Honestly, I'm going to say this out aloud on this podcast. right You can call me anytime. I'm going to put my phone number in the description.
01:16:48
Speaker
Okay. You can call me on that number. It's a Norwegian number, obviously. You can call me anytime, within reason, of course. And if I'm available, I will pick it up and I will answer it and I'll say hello.
01:17:02
Speaker
Yeah, have a chat and ever see what happens. o Yeah. Well, you know what? My recommendation for this this week isn't too far out of your wheelhouse, Justin.

Stepping Out of Comfort Zones

01:17:12
Speaker
Let's go.
01:17:13
Speaker
And that's getting out of your comfort zone. Oh, that was my second thing I was going to ask. I was going recommend. There we go. Thank you. Twin synchronicity. Yeah.
01:17:26
Speaker
ah you say it yeah So getting a get out of your comfort zone. Fucking, I don't know, try some ice bathing.
01:17:37
Speaker
or yeah Yeah. Highly recommend that. yeah ah you know You know what's going to get you out of your comfort zone? Invest in some crypto. Fucking watch that shit go up and down all day.
01:17:48
Speaker
You'll fucking be out of your comfort zone. I don't know. Whatever. Shave your balls. Shave your balls? I don't know. Do something different that you're not used to Yeah, i get a razor blade to your testicles.
01:18:04
Speaker
Well, I mean, that's... out I mean, gotta say, it's out of most people's comfort zone. Let's be honest. So that's why I say it. Like, do something, push yourself, get out of... Try something new.
01:18:15
Speaker
You'll be like, oh, you know, I was gonna, like... I probably should send Kieran a DM about like wanting to be want him to start a Patreon so I get free beer, but I shouldn't. No, fuck, get out of your comfort zone and send me a message.
01:18:32
Speaker
Yeah, honestly do that. Yeah. I actually have to be accountable for what I say on this podcast. I believe in hard things, doing hard things. I i honestly think it makes your life better.
01:18:45
Speaker
yeah That's my philosophy. ah When you do hard things, life is easier, especially when you specifically decide to do things that are hard.
01:18:57
Speaker
you Let's say, just to paint people picture here, working lifting weights, lifting weights, Like people can accept like, oh, yeah, want to get big, like I want to get fucking massive guns, I've got to lift some weights, right? And it's hard fucking work, right?
01:19:19
Speaker
Pump an iron all day to get be huge, right? You and I are massive. Yeah, right. and But it is hard. But either way, I mean, you i mean you've trained, right? you You did like the whole bodybuilding thing for a while.
01:19:33
Speaker
Bodybuilding? Not quite bodybuilding, but you're trying to get fucking ripped, right? For a period in your early 20s. ah I'm fucking ripped. as yeah Right.
01:19:46
Speaker
So anyway, my point is that difficult things are hard. Difficult things are hard. Things that are worth it are hard. You've got to push yourself. That's the only way you grow.
01:19:58
Speaker
You know, with mentality and like on like life stuff, like it's no different than lifting weights. Yeah, and I think it's the same.
01:20:09
Speaker
So like, you for example, you listen to this podcast, like, oh, I wish I could do what Justin and Kieran do. You know, like do the thing, like, I could never. But the reason why you could never is because you don't push yourself out of your comfort zone.
01:20:22
Speaker
You know, like, you're okay. And look, it's not for everybody. like i don't i want to i don't want to push people into something that they don't want to do. But if there's a thing that you're wanting to do, yeah but you're like, yeah, but... Like, that's the problem. Your butt's in the way.
01:20:39
Speaker
Yeah, right? I've got some friends that i know would be really good to work with. And, like, if we, for example, got together and created a YouTube channel together, we would go really well.
01:20:54
Speaker
And he probably wouldn't have to worry about money. Beast mode! Beast mode! Right? But the truth is he won't take the leap because it's scary.
01:21:06
Speaker
Right? Yeah. What if? What if? a And I think going back to how we started this podcast is, you know, Lynn's grandmother passed away and she lived a life.
01:21:19
Speaker
And I'm sure like most people, she had regrets. And I refused to live my life with regrets. Right? I make decisions and they won't always be the best ones.
01:21:32
Speaker
Yeah. Well, here's the thing to leave. It's to do hard. Yeah. Here's the thing to leave the pod for those who are suddenly uncomfortable with this conversation that we're having right now about getting yourself out of your comfort zone. Toughen up, princess! No, you know, like you say that we talk about the what if.
01:21:53
Speaker
like And there's there's a there's a big emphasis on what if it goes bad and the and the and the negative side. But let's like but let take that thing, that very thing that you're thinking about right now, that you're like, what if I did this?
01:22:13
Speaker
And then say, what if it worked? What if it was a success? What if it did really well? What if I fucking loved it? What if this changed my whole life?
01:22:24
Speaker
What if this gave me the freedom that i actually really wanted? You know?
01:22:31
Speaker
Change the mindset on what the what if, the the scary thing that's stopping you. Get out your comfort

Unexpected Success and Positive Affirmations

01:22:37
Speaker
zone. Bam! yeah Go sell some beer, Kieran. What if? ah What if you actually sold some beer? I did this quick while I'm not sold it.
01:22:46
Speaker
I'm trying, yeah. I definitely did, you know. So it's it's good. i I was actually really surprised by how well a lot of it went.
01:22:59
Speaker
It's so good. So, well, yeah, let's hear about it next week. I will leave you here this week. Thank you all so much for listening to our dribble. We're becoming a long form podcast now, I think, Justin.
01:23:13
Speaker

01:23:27
Speaker
