I think when we've we've had so much change to the squad, I think it's positive that we, you can see what's trying to happen. You can see what the manager is trying to do, trying to hold onto the football a lot more, especially coming from ah a David Moy system. It's nice to feel like we're on the front foot. I hope he goes with the back four, to be honest. I think in that Celsa Vigo game, we looked really solid as a unit. You look at the spine of the team, especially with the Guido Rodriguez signing, who played really well. I really liked him in that role. he he was So before he came to West Ham, he was lined up for the move to Barcelona, but that only fell through because Javi left.

And in that Seltiviga game, there were so many times where he would just mop up or he would he would get given the ball and he looked so comfortable in possession. And the way that he's able to stay calm under pressure, I think is such a valuable asset when we're moving to a system that's more possession-based.

Promising Start with New Signings

um But yeah, it's stuff like that. Even in a game, you know, it it looks like, you know, draw to two to win all penalties. You know, the result doesn't necessarily look the most attractive, but when you look at it for what it is and where we are as a club, it is a really promising start to a, what I think is going to be a really prosperous season. And yeah, he's, he's probably surprised me with his ability out of the gates. You know, he probably only had a couple of days training with the first team and he straight in and he was playing really well.

Yeah, so I mean, I agree with you on that. um Obviously our defensive record last season was you know not good enough. So you know the addition of someone like him um can only help. you know um We've got a lot of defensive minded midfielders now that will just sit sit in front of that back four, um you know mop up sort of like what Declan Rice would have done. I'm not saying to the same extent.

but we're definitely in a good place midfield-wise. I'm just interested to see who he's going to go for. you know There's going to be at least a couple of you know very good midfielders not getting their chances straight away.

I think it's is' kind of a double-edged sword and it's difficult to actually say what the best team is right now because we've had such an influx of talent.

It is so typical of how he plays, just the kind of making that run into the box, like the such intricate little passes and the way that he just glides through and he just ends up with the ball at his feet in front of the keeper. And obviously he puts it away. it's It's unreal. And the fact that we've got a player at that quality at West Ham is amazing. He's such a joy to watch. And I feel like if if we can kind of let him have the freedom to kind of play wherever he wants so if we do have him in the hole which i quite like he can drift around and he can pick up the ball and he can do special things like that because that's the kind of thing that is the difference maker when

It's kind of hard to tell, isn't it? He is a new manager. We've not seen his approach to playing youth players. So Right now kind of unsure I'd like him to get some good game time because I think he's ready I think when he has come on in, you know last season he's he's looked like he's Physically up to it and mentally up to it So, you know if you're good enough and you're up to it, then you're old enough and you should be getting that game time so

I don't, I don't think you got a massive amount of time in preseason, but you know that it's quite a ah large squad now and you only get a limited amount of games and trying to work out a system and a formation for the new season. You kind of understand tinkering to an extent. So not the end of the world that he didn't play much, but I would like to see him feature.

You know, I think most of the boys that come through the West Ham Academy get taught the values of being a person as well as being a footballer and it seems like he kind of identifies with all of those so not someone that's going to rock the boat but yeah really promising yeah and and like regardless of all that stuff he seems like he's a really good footballer like genuinely talented so yeah i'd like to see him get some minutes and it's the same with all the academy boys there's quite a few coming through and we've had good success in the youth academy over the past few years so you hope that those boys that have been working so hard will get the chance in the first team

Yeah, you know Ben Jones have been around for a bit longer getting a few more opportunities, but it seems like we have the opportunities to Integrate these players and they just don't get given the opportunity and then you know, they feel as if they're sort of wasting the Early part of their career so that they're gonna want to leave, you know, they're not getting any sort of real opportunity in the first team, you know, it's not it's not what we want to see, you know, when you've got these talented youngsters, you want them to be able to showcase um why they should be in the team or why they're the future of the team. um But yes, obviously, hopefully, the likes of earthy um and co will get opportunities.

And it only kind of leaves the potential for you know if if you come on for 10 minutes and you you make one mistake and you don't have time to do anything positive you come away from that game feeling really negative even though you've you've only really played a very small amount of football and it's very difficult to get up to speed straight away so hopefully lopateki can use the substitutions more frequently and use them at slightly earlier points in the game to allow players to come on

You never feel like he's got that amount left in him, you know. So he's definitely going to be one of those players that is going to be hungry when he when he gets opportunities. Obviously, I don't think he's going to get half as much game time as he did last season.

I don't think at this stage was sort of not got any worries. um Yeah, just kind of okay, not bad. And then general football rise, yeah, it's gotta be a nine for me, the the state that the club's in. The only reason it wouldn't be a 10 is because of the average age of the squad is still quite high.

we We've let go of some of the younger guys, and we've brought in a couple of younger guys, but you know, two of the signings we've made are 30. You look at Tadebo, who's on loan, he's not old either.

Oh, he's not young, but just the kind of general age profile of the players isn't as young as it could have been. That's the only reason that it's not a 10. But if you look at the the players that we've signed and the kind of vibe around the club, the way that the reports coming out of like the training sessions and the the American camp, the players like playing on under Lopotei, City comes across really well, training sessions are good.

Optimism and Expectations for the Season

That first game is such an opportunity for us to show that we actually mean business because there's been a lot of talk about, oh, West Ham's, you know, transfer window has been really good.

But then people very quickly revert back to their sentiment around West Ham that they always get is they're not really a threat. People always go, oh, West Ham are a good side. But people don't talk about West Ham in a way it's, oh, they are actually genuinely a really solid side who will cause us on a lot of issues on a regular basis. And if we can because it's our first games at home.
