Does 2 wins on the bounce for Graham Potters Hammers demonstrate that a corner has been turned for West Ham this season? Jacob and Tom discuss this game at the London Stadium and question if this form is long term or if we have been fortunate in the recent success.

West Ham's Victory Over Leicester

00:00:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello guys and welcome back to another episode of the Daily GSPN West Ham podcast. I'm joined by Jacob. Say hello.
00:00:16
Jacob
Hello, how's it going?
00:00:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
It is good. What a win. Obviously everyone will have seen by now that we beat Leicester our most recent fixture 2-0. Brilliant performance, really good for morale.
00:00:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think the fact that we've got two wins on the balance is incredible to be honest. It's something we've seen very little of. So what are your kind of initial thoughts about the game?

Possession and Defensive Praise

00:00:37
Jacob
Yeah, I think it wasn't our, obviously we're we're delighted that we got the win. It wasn't, the most you know cutthroat and amazing performance we've ever and put on. But you know we got the job done.
00:00:53
Jacob
um We did dominate for you know large parts of the game um and it probably could have been more than 2-0 really. Then again, they you know they had a couple of chances that they they couldn't take. But overall, and yeah, very happy with it.
00:01:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, me too. I think talking about the actual performance, yeah, it wasn't the best performance, but you can only beat the team that you're up against. And we coped really well with...
00:01:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
actually having the ball. I think that's something that when you're used to being on the back foot in games, which we basically have been 90% of games this season, it's really impressive how we were, we felt comfortable in possession. You know, there wasn't really too many opportunities where players looked like they were, they were stressed and they didn't want the ball and they were trying to offload it quickly.
00:01:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think we held

Creswell's Influence and Role

00:01:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
possession really nicely. I think particularly our defence, we looked really comfortable in possession. And when we do play the five at the back system like we did in this game, five at the back, three at the back, whatever you want to call it um our centre-backs always look really comfortable.
00:01:53
Jacob
Yeah.
00:02:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
And obviously, in particular, Aaron Creswell, who was our best player on the pitch. He'd be amazing, to be honest.
00:02:07
Jacob
yeah
00:02:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it's been a little bit of a revival for him under Potter when you look at the way he's been playing and how... As he's started to get a bit older, he's 35 now, so very much in the twilight of his career.
00:02:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
As he's started to get older, you've seen him get less and less game time, which you do kind of understand for a player of his age. But Potter's come in and just completely revitalised him. He's so... comfortable with the ball and his decision making is so good and you see him in the game constantly communicating with the players around him what he wants and where he wants them to be so that sort of leadership is something that's vital i think especially when we've had such a poor season so really happy with him and the fact that Oli Scars is playing so much I think Aaron Creswell being next to him is going to benefit his development immensely
00:02:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
having someone with so much Premier League experience next to you, kind of communicating where you should be and what you should do he' only going to massively improve his development. So, yeah, really, really happy with him.
00:03:04
Jacob
Yeah, I mean, with Cresswell, he just didn't look like a player who, you know, had barely been been in the team for, you know, the majority of the season.
00:03:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
What are your...
00:03:17
Jacob
and Yeah, he he kind of looked like his old self, like we'd seen at the start of his time with us. So, yeah, really happy with, you know, his performance. um I'm sure that's going to keep him in the starting XI after that.
00:03:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it it's a weird one, isn't it? Because of his age, it's really difficult to kind of look into the future when you you think about what we do with that position because the three or five at the back seems to be ah a formation that Potter likes quite a lot.
00:03:43
Jacob
Yeah,
00:03:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
And this season, and you um it's obvious that Cresswell is going play a massive part. But then... At the end of this year, it's like, do we look to replace him someone else or do we keep it the same? I don't know. I guess that's more of a question for the summer because if he keeps playing at this level, then I don't see any reason why we replace him.
00:04:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
I also want to touch on the other wide centre-back, Tadebo. How do you feel he in this game?
00:04:11
Jacob
yeah I thought he was very good. he He looked very comfortable with the ball. and
00:04:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
know.
00:04:16
Jacob
Yeah, it does worry you sometimes when he kind of lingers with it for a little bit long sometimes, but I don't think he made any mistakes. um And I think that sort of three slash five back suits him.
00:04:33
Jacob
um The way he plays, you know, he is a lot of movement at the back. And yeah, he he looked very assured. um And I think having the likes of Creswell in there probably helped to...
00:04:50
Jacob
sort of keep it balanced. So, yeah, no, I thought he was excellent. I think they were all all very good. You know, I think, like you said, Cresswell was probably the standout player, um but they all they all had a good game. So, you know, i think think we've got to give them all credit, really.
00:05:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I completely agree. And the fact that Cresswell can play in the centre-back does so much for our squad depth. you know We have probably three centre-backs in the squad, so when we're using a three at the back, it feels relatively risky.
00:05:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
you know we we using If we are playing out-and-out centre-backs, we're only playing the centre-backs that we have available and we have no one in reserve.

Wan-Bissaka's Form and England Prospects

00:05:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
So the fact that Cresswell can deputise in there is so reassuring. I know that Cuffel has kind of played in that wide right centre-back role, which...
00:05:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
He does okay. I think he's kind of serviceable there, but not anything we should be looking at kind of long-term. It's more of a makeshift situation for me. Um, But yeah, just just really happy we' happy we're really happy with the defence generally. um I like the freedom that the full-backs are given when we when we have possession.
00:05:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it was another brilliant game from Wan-Bissaka who seems to just have a knack for finding himself in space and making really good kind of overlapping runs.
00:05:55
Jacob
can
00:06:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
How do you think his performances have improved under Potter or is it something that he's just been brilliant in this season generally?
00:06:05
Jacob
yeah
00:06:13
Jacob
um i think yeah i think it's a lot to do with with potter's style you know that well i mean i don't know if it's his actual style but the the five but fight back with the, you know, ability to get forwards and, you know, he's brilliant at that. And I think um having an English manager and as I'm sure there's loads of other attributes that help Potter in, you know, getting the best out of Bwambisaka. And some of what we've seen already is, you know,
00:06:47
Jacob
it makes you wonder why United ever let him go, especially for so cheap. He's certainly somebody that, you know, you feel could be in that position for a long time to come.
00:07:01
Jacob
um And yeah, we haven't really missed, you know, Sofau since he's been here, since Wamsak has been here. And that's, you know, that's a massive credit to him because Sofau has been one of our, um you know, most reliable,
00:07:16
Jacob
players for a number of years now. um And you couldn't really see anybody taking his place. You know, maybe Ben Johnson at the time when we had him, but, you know, he, Wamsak has come in and kind of changed the whole you know idea of our right back being able to score goals and you know make a huge impact um like he has.
00:07:40
Jacob
So yeah, no, he's been great and I'm sure he'll only sort of progress more under Potter. um I mean, I think it might be a bit early start talking about an England call-up, but um I think he should be in the conversation at least.
00:07:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, completely agree. You know, when you you look at his ability to play left-back as well, I don't see any reason to why he shouldn't be considered as kind of a a really interesting addition to the squad. You know, if you look at the right-back position, it's always been a really kind of, a really competitive position. But you look at the people who have kind of held that position as their own for England, it who is it? Trippier, who has kind of, his form has very much dropped off a cliff. I don't think he's He's anywhere near the player that he was, even just a year or two ago.
00:08:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Carl Walker has gone to Italy. People have said that his performances have been poor.
00:08:32
Jacob
Mm-hmm.
00:08:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't think he's set the world alight in Italy either.
00:08:36
Jacob
Yeah.
00:08:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
um So there is definitely room for someone to maybe break into that right-back position.
00:08:38
Jacob
Mm-hmm.
00:08:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Trent is probably the person you you line up as the front-runner, or you have Rhys James as well, but he gets injured quite a lot. Yeah. Trent Alexander-Arnold is defensively not great.
00:08:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
So if we're if if you want someone who can defend but also has the ability to go forwards, I don't really think there's anyone better than Aramai Masaka, to be honest, because his one-on-one defending is immense.
00:09:06
Jacob
Yeah. Mm-hmm.
00:09:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's unbelievably good. Everyone knows this. And I think, especially international level, you have to have the players that are able to defend. I don't think you can afford to carry people who have not necessarily the highest level of defensive ability.
00:09:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
So... I would 100% consider Juan Bissaka off-road. And I hope that Thomas Tuchel is open to changing things up because when you spend so long under one manager, he's got the guys he likes and he's got the guys that he's not as much of a fan of.
00:09:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
a new manager coming in is a perfect opportunity to refresh the squad. And I think, you know, as we've done so well at so many tournaments, but just not quite got over the edge, I think now is potentially a good time to have a little bit of a shakeup and let some of the older guys leave the squad and bring in some kind of fresh faces to allow us to maybe reach that next level of actually winning something.
00:09:57
Jacob
Mm-hmm.
00:09:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, yeah, I think that's a really good point. And I'd like to like to think that he's he's definitely in the conversation. Okay, i'm we're going to go to our first advert, and when we get back, I'd like to discuss our attack, because it's one of the places that I i don't think we will grow.

Midfield Performance and Attack Concerns

00:10:28
Jacob
Thank
00:10:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, looking at the game as a whole, we've already spoken about defence. The defence were really good. I think the midfield was also very solid. You know, Thomas Suchet getting that goal on his birthday again. He's actually the only player to score twice on his birthday, other than Teddy Sheringham, which is a ah cool little fact I read. um
00:11:08
Jacob
Wow.
00:11:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Really happy with the midfield. I don't think there's too much really to say about the midfield, to be honest. It was a relatively steady performance. dominated the possession kind of similar in how we spoke about the defense everyone looked comfortable i'd probably prefer to talk about the attack because it was the worst part of our team in this game ah how how do you feel the attack
00:11:23
Jacob
and
00:11:29
Jacob
Yeah, i just think... Yeah. Yeah, I agree. it was not to say that they were bad, ah you've got to say out of, you know, yeah, out out of the positions, you know, all the positions, they probably could have done more.
00:11:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah it wasn't terrible
00:11:48
Jacob
um And I think, you know, we didn't have a huge amount of chances. We had a lot of the ball and, you know, we, at times we didn't do very much with it.
00:12:01
Jacob
um So I think that's something that's got to be drilled into the players that, you know, we're not going to have that kind of game again, you know, unless we come up against another one of those bottom three sides where you can have the ball for that long.
00:12:20
Jacob
And then, you know, not be as clinical with it because you do that against... you know one of the top teams, you do it against your you know Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool, you know you have to take the chances you have and you have to create more.
00:12:40
Jacob
and And there's no way in our upcoming games that we're going to have that much of the ball um like we did against Leicester. They barely laid a glove on us for the majority of the game. so we definitely could have had more than just two goals.
00:12:57
Jacob
That's for certain, you know, Bowen, you know, I know you think that that was Bowen's goal, um but, you know, he's involved again.
00:13:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
i love I just don't know what's the reason you don't give it to him. You know?
00:13:08
Jacob
i just, I think, I think it's all about the angles. I don't think it's, obviously he's, it's his attempt, right?
00:13:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:13:17
Jacob
But I think I saw a good angle of it where you kind of look down the goal line. um And you kind of see how much the deflection sort of takes it past the keeper.
00:13:30
Jacob
um
00:13:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:13:31
Jacob
Had it not have been for that, I think it would have kind of gone across the box. But to be honest, we don't care. We, you know, you take you take the goal in those in those circumstances. Well, you know, we, um it was only one k nell and we had the ball for so long and we,
00:13:50
Jacob
thinking where's the next one going to come from? you know One of these players needs to take a chance. um So, yeah, we don't really care about that the manner

Offensive Strategy and Player Contributions

00:13:59
Jacob
it goes in. It went in. um Maybe we would have liked to see Bowen's stats be bolstered a little bit more, but you know who cares really.
00:14:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it's it's more just one for Jarrod Byrne for me because you know he's his goal numbers haven't been as high as they have been in previous seasons. you know He still had a really good season with seven goals and four assists so far.
00:14:21
Jacob
Yeah.
00:14:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's a really solid campaign for a team that have been very poor this year. It's just more about kind of the respect that other people are going to give him because it's just like one extra goal contribution that he can put on his CV to make other people respect him the way that we do. Yeah.
00:14:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's a strange one that Evan Ferguson isn't starting yet, to be honest, for me. I would much prefer him starting and then we can bring him off and change it if it doesn't work.
00:14:44
Jacob
yeah
00:14:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
But you know but when we're bringing him on so late in games, it's how is he supposed to kind of develop any sort of momentum or ah how are we supposed to be able to work out if he's going to be a good player for us long term if he isn't given the opportunity to play from the first minute?
00:15:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I understand that these things take time, but I think just throw him in. He's either going to sink or swim. You know, he's either going to do really well or he's not going to not going to be good enough for us. So I would much rather see him start. And when you do play Kudus and Bowen as these kind of two...
00:15:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
and I don't know if you can call them strikers, to be honest, but it's not really the way that they play. I know Bowen can play that way, um but Kujic isn't a striker. He likes to come deep. He likes to make runs in behind.
00:15:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
He likes to beat people, but you know he's not making the runs of a striker.
00:15:35
Jacob
Mm-hmm.
00:15:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think Bowen does that a lot better, but even still, it's not really his game. When we play the five at the back, obviously it is taking someone out of the offensive third, I'd say, and bringing them into defense. And you have the the wide players pushing, which kind of gives you width. But I would much rather like to see us have like a nailed on kind of spearhead to our attack.
00:15:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then we can fit the other people in a round to facilitate more effective attacking play because without someone doing that job which I think Paquette did really well before he got injured he was really good at holding the ball up and bringing other players in and leading the line and pressing from the front he did all those things really well obviously kind of lacking the maybe like the the final part of being a striker which is kind of making the runs and and scoring the goals obviously um I just think we look better when we have a striker on the pitch. So I would much rather see him starting that game.
00:16:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
If you had the choice between starting Evan Ferguson up front or playing with Jarrod Bowen and another one of our attackers a bit fought further forward, what do you think you'd pick?
00:16:46
Jacob
i i get I get what you're saying. I just think we need to sort of, that has to be a decision that's made based on who we're playing and, um you know, how desperate we are to get a win and all these kind of factors. I know how important wins are for us at the moment with the disappointment that the season's been. But I don't think that necessarily means Ferguson has to be in. um
00:17:18
Jacob
I think if he's, you know, if we need him, he's there. um I know he definitely didn't have enough time in the Leicester game to actually make an impact, which, you know, is frustrating to see because, you know, realistically, how long are we actually going to you know have him for? So we we need to make the most of his attributes while we've got him.
00:17:43
Jacob
and So, yeah i think I think it's one of those ones where you kind of just have to trust that Potter is going to put out his strongest XI, you know, what he feels is his strongest based on how they've trained and how they match up against the opposition.
00:18:02
Jacob
and i mean, you can't say what he chose didn't work in the last game. But see what you mean about making the most of of having him rather than you know leaving it late to bring him on and then not giving him a but proper opportunity to actually make a big impact on the game.
00:18:23
Jacob
Maybe had he been in from the start, we would have would have been better than 2-0. But you know i think his opportunities will come. And I think as the season progresses more you know further,
00:18:38
Jacob
um he he'll have to be used more just just purely due to the amount of minutes and um you know he'll he'll choose he willll choose him you know when it suits the team and if he feels we need that real sort of clinical finisher in the in the team um but he chose he chose well and I think Ferguson he'll get his chances definitely
00:19:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I do agree with that. I just want to see us score more goals, to be honest, ask because if if you look at our past five games, we've only scored four goals. So, i i'm scored two in this preseason game, but if you're calling that an own goal, then I guess technically we've only scored one goal in this game.
00:19:18
Jacob
Yeah.
00:19:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:19:24
Jacob
One girl.
00:19:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, if we're going to see this kind of prolonged success when it comes to getting points, we need to be scoring more goals, you know. I don't know how many games you can really win in the Premier League only scoring one goal each game because every team has quality and every team has the ability to score basically any time. you know like Even Southampton, you know they are relatively poor this season. you know that's not I don't think that's a controversial thing to say, but...
00:19:56
Jacob
No.
00:19:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
they do have players that can, out of nowhere, just pull something completely out of their, you know, you know what, and smash on in the top bins. So, we need to be scoring more on that. So, I think that's kind of my main argument for getting Ever Ferguson in because then it allows us to get the best out Bowen and Kudus because they're both better in in the wide spaces than they are kind of down the middle. So,
00:20:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's an interesting conversation. and you know It's not the end of the world. i just you know If we've got them online, let's play them. Let's see what you can do. um okay We're going to go to our second advert.
00:20:25
Jacob
Yeah.
00:20:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
When we get back, I'd like to wrap up our thoughts about this game and look forward to our next fixture against Newcastle.

Oli Scars' Development

00:20:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, so wrapping up our thoughts on this game, I quickly want to touch on Oli Scarls again because he's someone that seems to be a ah regular starter for us now, which I really like.
00:21:02
Jacob
Mm-hmm.
00:21:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
I heard an argument somewhere. I can't remember where it was I heard it, but... Basically saying that, do we need to slow down when it comes to the discussion and the amount of minutes that he's getting? Because, you know, you see it so many times where a team has a player who's really good and he gets hyped so much and he gets thrown sort of straight into the the limelight.
00:21:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
If he then does start to drop off or he makes a mistake or you know we win and he gets beaten like regularly, if obviously because he's a wide player, if if he comes up against ah a player who just beats him time after time, his stock is going to go down so much. And at such a pivotal time in his development, we don't want to have negative discussions about him. So I don't know if I necessarily agree with this or not, but should we kind of leave him alone a little bit?
00:21:59
Jacob
I think, to be honest, I think that any hype that there is around him, which we know there is, I think it is purely just come from his good performances. um i i get what you mean.
00:22:15
Jacob
You know, you we don't want to increase the pressure. I mean, obviously we're having no effect on him whatsoever, but... um the Just the general noise, you know, I see what you mean, but I think it's very hard not to to shout about um ah homegrown player who's starting over, you know, the likes of Emerson, who's been in the team for so long um and now isn't getting in because of him. um
00:22:52
Jacob
And yeah, it's warranted. So I think... as much as we ah going to worry about is this a you know is this a real ah long-term sort of, is he going to be our left back for for many, many years to come?
00:23:12
Jacob
think we just kind of have to be pleased with what he's shown. um And it is worrying to think that he won't reach his his hype or his his level that we're kind of predicting that he'll reach. But that's kind of, that just comes with it, doesn't it? Like that's a lot of players go through that as well.
00:23:34
Jacob
um I think I can't, I'm not trying to say that he's going to reach the level of Declan Rice, but you saw with Rice as well. He kind of came out of nowhere. Obviously,
00:23:47
Jacob
coming through the academy sort of just making his way through for whatever reason, whether it's injuries in the ah first team or um just earning it through through the youth team. um But slowly and and gradually making himself, a you know, one of the first names on the team sheet. And I think he definitely has the attributes to be that player as well.
00:24:16
Jacob
um And is surely his confidence can only grow from here as well. you know He doesn't look like somebody who has made less than 10 starts for for us, does he like he? He looks like he's been playing for several seasons. So, yeah, I'm just excited. I don't think we should be too worried.

Yeah, I do agree with that, to be honest. i I know there's always a risk, but I don't think it's a risk that there is any... how you supposed to negate a risk that is just going to happen regardless?
00:24:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know, he's he's there, like you said, he's there on merit and he's been playing well, so people are talking about him.
00:24:56
Jacob
Yeah.
00:24:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
and you can't tell people not to talk about a player who's doing well, you know. So looking at the whole situation, I think we just have to be cautious that we can't put too much pressure, which I think is always something that you need to think about.
00:25:12
Jacob
yeah
00:25:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
But, you know, as long as he's playing well and as long as he's trying and he's developing and he's improving, you can't really ask for much more. And the comparison with Declan Rice, I think is really interesting because, yeah, like you say, it is...
00:25:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
his rise was very natural and it wasn't forced. You know, he wasn't,
00:25:28
Jacob
Mm-hmm. no
00:25:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
There wasn't a lot of pressure on him initially. you know He was put into games and he did well and he earned his position and earned more minutes. So the fact that he hasn't been signed for big money or he hasn't you know got this massive hype around him from social media and from like conversations and stuff, because you see it with some of the younger players at the bigger teams. I think an example for me is is Louis Barry. you know When he was um younger, he was...
00:25:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
going all over the place. He was at Barcelona and then he went to Everton and now he's managed to find form in the lower leagues because you look at the amount of pressure that was on him and the conversations around him, whether he was kind of the next coming of, you know, pick any good footballer, Lionel Messi, whatever.
00:26:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And I think that is not always a good thing for for these young guys. So the fact that he is at West Ham and he has the ability, I think he's in the perfect place. I think West Ham is a really good breeding ground for talent because,
00:26:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
we have good players and we have an amazing fan base and we've got amazing facilities but also we don't necessarily have the kind of scrutiny and the criticizing eyes that a lot of the kind of big six if you call them that even now um you know so i'm really happy for him and i hope that he just continues to develop to be honest um okay so looking forward newcastle how are you feeling about that
00:26:57
Jacob
i I don't know.

Newcastle Game Preview

00:27:00
Jacob
and I think I feel a lot more confident knowing that Izak probably isn't going to be playing.
00:27:10
Jacob
and From what I've heard anyway, i might be wrong. He might be back and he might be fine. But I'm sure I heard them say that he um would miss...
00:27:23
Jacob
ah few games so that kind of helps us definitely because he and my eyes has been you know behind Mo Salah like the best player this season you know between him and Salah Salah's obviously numbers speak for themselves but I think he has been the best striker this season by far um So him not him probably not being in there definitely helps us um because we've we've leaked goals all season and we could really do without him being there. So that's a positive.
00:28:05
Jacob
um However, I don't think we can expect to have anywhere near the amount of ball that we that like we did against Leicester. um And I think we're going to have to take any chances that we get because...
00:28:19
Jacob
they're far more dangerous, more confidence um and just better quality players. So, you know, we did it against Arsenal, who were also, who also are missing key men at the time of playing them. So we can definitely get something.
00:28:37
Jacob
um It's just whether we're going to, you know, be up for it and take our chances when they come. I think that's the, I think that's something we need to see.
00:28:48
Jacob
um And like you say, with with Ferguson, if he plays, um I'm sure he will create chances and I'm sure, you know, we can rely on him, hopefully.
00:28:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I completely agree. you know going Going into this game, we do have to be cautious because they do have such quality and the in the attacking third, but... We've already beaten them once this season. So I don't see any reasons to why we can't beat them again.
00:29:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
And on top of that, the Arsenal result shows that we can beat good teams. You know, it wasn't a dominant display and we didn't outclass them everywhere, but we did beat them, you know, and it wasn't wasn't an undeserved win.
00:29:19
Jacob
Exactly.
00:29:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
We were better than them. They weren't as good as we were. So we can do it. And I'm quietly confident in that we will be able do again.
00:29:28
Jacob
Yep.
00:29:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know, it's at home, it's at the London Stadium. We haven't been amazing there this season, but under Potter, I hope that we can turn it into a bit more of a fortress that, you you know, the move to the London Stadium was to facilitate the European hopes that we had, you know, and we've had great European nights at the London Stadium.
00:29:36
Jacob
Mm-hmm.
00:29:50
Jacob
Yeah.
00:29:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
So if we want to make it a place that hosts European football, we need to be better. And I think that starts with our home form. Our home form needs to be good.
00:29:58
Jacob
Yeah.
00:30:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
We need to have ah a sense that when we play at home, when we play at our stadium, we are good and we don't underperform. you know So going into this game, hopefully we can continue to win.
00:30:09
Jacob
Yeah.
00:30:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Three wins on the bounce with a win against Arsenal and Newcastle is amazing. That is something that you know ah month or two ago we we would have basically said it wasn't possible. Yeah.
00:30:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just hope we can do it, to be honest. so We'll have to see. and i'm sure I'm sure we'll do a ah pod later in the week to to discuss more of our thoughts about the game specifically.
00:30:32
Jacob
sweet so hopefully next time it will be a cheerful one um and not a sort of depressing one like the majority of them have been ah but
00:30:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
