Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello, guys, and welcome back to another episode of the Daily GSPM West End podcast. I'm joined by Jacob. Say hello, mate.
00:00:16
Jacob
Hello, how are you doing?
00:00:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm doing well, mate. I'm also joined by a couple of guys from the Brighton GSPM podcast. Say hello, guys. Introduce yourselves.
00:00:23
Joe
God bless.
00:00:25
blessings
Yeah, I'm blessings, just being bright and happy to be here speaking to you boys.
00:00:30
Joe
Yeah, and i'm ah I'm Joe from Daily Brighton. Yes. Ready to probably get cooked on the weekend to be fair, but other than that, we're all good, mate. All good.
00:00:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Good. Okay,

Brighton's Recruitment Strategy and Player Sales

00:00:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
right. So I want to start this podcast with some questions from West End fans for b Brighton fans. I think my first one is your recruitment strategy is obviously brilliant. How does it feel watching the players that you sign and turn into these amazing players, go on to other teams and do really well? Obviously, Kaiseido signed in for Chelsea. He initially didn't set the world alive, but this season he's been amazing. How how does that make you guys feel?
00:01:09
Joe
I'll let you go, bless if you want.
00:01:11
blessings
Yeah it's obviously tricky to see your best players leave pretty much every season um but the sort of money they're getting from it I think the idea is would hope that that money is used very well and we can sort of start progressing and have ah more seasons in Europe um that we've previously done. But yeah, like you um like I said, it is difficult, especially because it was a big hit, but that transfer fee is a was a lot of money. um And that's been used quite well to sort of just make sure we're sustainable and we can actually continue to keep finishing at least top 10 each season.

Brighton's European Ambitions

00:01:50
blessings
So I think, yeah, long term, if that money is used well and we keep just progressing, um being a sort of homestay in the top 10 and then progressing to be the and the outside European positions and yeah, bittersweet, but I think I'll take that.
00:02:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. I think my, my one question for that is surely you get to a point where if you want to make that step up, you have to stop being the selling team. I know obviously that might be quite far in the future, but that I guess the, what I would assume the projection is, you know, you you keep doing it until you can consistently get into Europe. And then if you want to stay there, you have to stop selling basically at some point.
00:02:33
blessings
Yeah, that's the idea and I think once we, in the long term, in an ideal world, once we are sort of finishing in the those European spots a bit more consistently, I think the players would want to stay. I think one big ah driving point for a player who wants to move is to play in Europe and all the promises these other clubs can give. um That's definitely one thing that's a ah real big selling point for them. So if we can offer European football, I'm sure more players would want to come to play for Brighton and our best players would be happy to stay as well.
00:03:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah, that's really fair. Jake, have you got any questions for the guys?
00:03:14
Jacob
Yeah, I mean, I get what you're saying with the, you know, how hard it can be to hold onto to your best players. I know that sort of brightens whole model really is, you know, scouting these like exciting young players from South America and then turn them into superstars, send them off and making a huge profit on it.
00:03:37
Jacob
and You know, we haven't really done anything to that sort of same extent.

Standout Brighton Players

00:03:43
Jacob
Um, we, we haven't made a huge amount of money. The only one really and in recent times would be Declan Rice, but he was homegrown anyway. So yeah. Um, who, who do you think you guys, who's, who's your standout player so far this season? Who's, who have you been impressed by the most? Maybe you weren't quite expecting it.
00:04:06
Joe
Um, to be fair, I mean, I'd say not expecting it personally, I think. Um, I would say belabor personally, but I feel like if you watch enough of him, you sort of see it there.
00:04:16
Jacob
Mm hmm.
00:04:21
Joe
Anyway, gel pleasure. You can't really count because sort of, he's a bit more. in terms of like his pedigree is a little bit more known. Van Hecke was good last season, um but I'd say that Carlos Belabra is a player who is like you sit like you were talking about just then, saying about how you'll end up selling on for a lot of money.
00:04:41
Joe
I feel like Carlos Belabe is a player who, even though to be fair, I still think we paid like 20, 25 million for him, like it's not a small transfer fee. And I think it actually might have been this, might be similar with Quesada. We've actually splashed like 20 mil on a play a lot in the Ecuadorian League or the Colombian League or whatever.
00:05:01
Joe
And um that's still a lot of money, especially for that division. But there's there are certain players who like you can sort of see it might happen, but you're not sure yet. Like Yasin Ari, he looks like quite promising to be fair to him.
00:05:17
Joe
um Van Hecker is, I think he's 24, I want to say, Van Hecker's like 24.
00:05:21
blessings
Yeah.
00:05:22
Joe
And I mean, he needs, he had an awful game against Palace, but pretty much everyone did. But like, it's ah i'm curious to see how much of a fee he would command if he was to sort of get into that sort of consistent form.
00:05:34
Joe
But I think Belé was a bit of a where he's got like that game changing a thing in him and also like that need for like uh athletic six who can sort of do a bit of everything um i think is is quite popular at the moment so i feel who i feel like he'll come on to good feet but he's also probably been the most consistent performer i believe apart from the red card he gets born with but it's only one game isn't it
00:06:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I guess like it must be frustrating that if you sign a player and you know they start playing well, all the other clubs come just circling, don't they? So how how well do you want them to do?
00:06:10
Joe
No.
00:06:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
And is there like a little part of you that goes, oh, just don't play well this one game. and It might put a little bit of doubt on other clubs' minds and we'll keep them for an extra season.
00:06:20
blessings
Well, I think that's the sort of thing that's going on with Belieber as well. I think um the red card that Bournemouth, I think a few teams might look at that and be like, oh, he's a little bit rash. He gave away a penalty at home against Forrest as well. So like when he was doing a couple days, I'm like, oh, maybe ah eyes are off for maybe another year. um Like, he he is still quite raw. And sometimes when you do see that, I think it it might put some teams off, which is a good thing, yeah.
00:06:47
blessings
because I guess the money's not coming to me so I don't want him to go.
00:06:50
Joe
yeah
00:06:50
blessings
um it's It's not what I mean.
00:06:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah yeah
00:06:53
blessings
so
00:06:53
Joe
ah I'll add to that to be fair because for for someone like when you see the way that the like the sort of way that Tony Bloom works is that like so for example you're with our players we ask for normally you'd go in a team would go in under what they would actually want to pay right and then obviously you build up to there if you can get below it and calm
00:07:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:07:16
Joe
But the thing is, is that we've caught with the contracts, if the players like contract to the club, the player would have to force his way out because we're going to ask for exponentially more than what we even value that player at.
00:07:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:07:29
Joe
So like, I say, though, for example, I'm sure that obviously I don't know but like I'm sure you could just see it in the inflated transfer fee it was a crazy amount of money for a player who'd only really been good for a season so like you you're sort of looking at the but then you look at Alexis McAllister and Alexis McAllister was sort of coming to the end of his contract um I think he had like a clause in his contract as well But like you we're not going to sell to you if we don't need if we don't want one wants other player and if we If you are going to come in with a crazy amount of money, then you can have the player But you're going to be paying over the odds for the value of the player anyway, so it that in that way It's sort of like a win-win situation. So obviously you want your players to do well But there if they're going to be so like for example, um jalpedra we're looking at like 100 million for jalpedra
00:08:19
Joe
Like that, that was said, I think it was reported a couple of days ago. Like that's, it's a lot, you might not think he's worth that money, but that's the money that you have to pay to take him away because he's under contract.
00:08:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that's a pretty smart way of doing it,

West Ham's Manager and Team Identity

00:08:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
isn't it? It's like not completely, like the option is there, but they have to jump through certain hoops in order to get that, which I think is a really good way of having it and having those safeguards in place so that you don't get ransacked every year, I think is a really good way of doing it.
00:08:33
Joe
Yeah.
00:08:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, we're just gonna go to the first advert and then we'll get back. The Brighton boys are gonna ask us some questions.
00:09:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, I'll send it over to you boys. Have you got youve got any questions for us?
00:09:20
Joe
um My first one is actually going to be, to be fair, it's a little bit selfish for me to sort of um to sort of ask just from a curiosity point of view. ah This goes to both of you as well.
00:09:31
Joe
Is it a lopategi in vibe or is it a lopategi out vibe?
00:09:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Good question.
00:09:34
Joe
is it a won we what we've What are we sort of thinking?
00:09:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Go on, Jacob. i I'll let you take that one.
00:09:41
Jacob
um The thing is, I have no ill feeling towards Lopategi at all, I think.
00:09:52
Jacob
He's, he's got ideas and he's, he's tried, you know, it, it just hasn't worked basically. Um, I think Tom will agree with me. Like the the main thing we've lacked this season is just like an identity, like any sort of identity at all. Um, and with David Moyes, that is something we had, you know, that you could turn on the West End game and you basically know what you're going to get from the game.
00:10:22
Jacob
We're going to sit back, have like 30% of the ball and hit you on the counter. But with Lopategi, we never know what we're going to get at all. Um, sometimes the players show up, sometimes they don't, they make bad decisions. You know, it's that inconsistency that has frustrated us so much because there have been times where we've looked really good and then there have been times where, you know, we literally look like a semi-pro team out there at times, like, you know, can't string more than a couple of passes together, give the ball away, concede. And we're just like back to square one. And ah once again, he's under pressure. And it's not something that, you know, you can really keep up with for a long time. I think me personally, I would
00:11:20
Jacob
Now that we're at this stage of the season, I wouldn't get rid of him. I would ah would want to make that decision closer to the end of the season or at the end of the season because, you know, otherwise we've kind of just wasted our time really. You know, they've spent all this money and there's got to be something to show for it. um i think I think he deserves until the end of the season and then we re-evaluate and I'd be looking at somebody else to come in, I would hope.
00:11:51
Jacob
and' Because where we're sitting right now just isn't good enough for our club.
00:11:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, it's a really weird one because he's not been good, but he's not been bad enough to the point where everyone thinks he should go.
00:11:58
Jacob
What do you think, Tom?
00:12:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
is It seems like this constant cycle of, oh, it's really bad. It's really bad. Oh, that was all right, actually. And oh, we've got a a win here. And if you look at the, you know, you look at the Point figures is not terrible and you know, we're not getting relegated or anything. It's just been a bit lackluster So when it actually comes to making a ah choice about whether to keep and want to let him go I don't think it's bad enough to be beneficial to get a new manager in at this point to be honest because How can you guarantee that a new manager is going to be any better?
00:12:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
and he's ah I think he's only going to get better with time. you know When you have the sort of squad overhaul that we had and a new manager bringing a new philosophy to the club, you know it those things are going to take time. It's just whether the board are going to be patient enough.
00:12:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
and are willing to potentially write off the season in hopes that next season will be better. And then the risk is, what if it's not better next season? Then we've wasted loads more time. So it's a tough one. I'm kind of fence setting right now. I don't think that we should get rid of him. But if we do, it has to be before January. Because if you are bringing a new manager in, you have to give them the opportunity to go and sign someone. They have to be able to make a couple of additions. But you know if we sack him in February,
00:13:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
The new manager then has to deal with, you know, the whole second half of the season with no additions, which is going to be so difficult. And that's only going to make the chance of that new manager's career tenure in actually at the club. It's going to be worse. So yeah, I don't know, maybe slightly fence sitting, but it's tough. It's a difficult one.
00:13:33
Joe
It does sound like a bit of a sticky one still, I'm not gonna lie.
00:13:36
Jacob
yes
00:13:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:13:36
Joe
Russell, I heard Russell Martin and, what's the matey's name from Wolves F3, currently, job centre.
00:13:41
Jacob
Yeah.
00:13:41
blessings
know.
00:13:42
Joe
Hit them up, mate, honestly.
00:13:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
um ah I think I'm all right, mate. I probably have David Moyes back.
00:13:44
Jacob
Yeah.
00:13:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's still got his number saved somewhere.
00:13:48
Joe
it just sounds it sounds very like um like you're you you're not confused that's that sounds patronizing but you sound like you're not sure like you're not you don't you don't know whether that's the way forward though you don't really see like the way forward which is quite deep actually but like uh like to be fair obviously i don't envy you also not one to take the mic massively but like um it is a bit of a ah bit of a sticky situation and bless if you got maybe you got one
00:13:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:14:12
blessings
Yeah, I think um I'm glad you touched on playing style because that answered one of the questions I did have. um But my original idea was, um so going into the season, what was the expectations? Obviously, you've got a new manager in with a um high reputation. um What was the expectations?
00:14:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it was we wanted more of the ball. you know if he If we wanted to continue on the David Williams route, he is someone that likes to play defensive football on the counter attack which worked really well and it brought us so much success. So I think to downplay that way of playing football I think is so naive because it brought us our first trophy in absolute yonks.
00:14:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
When you actually want to take that step up, you obviously have to change the manager, and you need to change the squad, and you need to revamp the way that we approach the game. And Lopategi's supposed philosophy was having the ball, controlling possession more, you know not rushing to score goals, but working and building play, and having tricky players that can you know intricately pass the ball. and it just hasn't really materialized like we've seen it in glimpses the the new castle game is the one game where we actually showed that way of playing and we were amazing it was really good but is one game actually playing that style good enough compared to you know however many like 10 11 other games but we haven't
00:15:43
blessings
And also, do you think he's been given the chance of bringing his players? I know ah one player came from La Liga, is it Rodriguez?
00:15:51
Joe
Guida.
00:15:51
Jacob
yeah
00:15:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
I put it over there you guys, yeah
00:15:53
blessings
Yeah, and then obviously, Juan Bizeca as well, who I ah don't know, I don't i don't watch West Ham that much, but I wouldn't put him down as a sort of ball playing, um like a player who's going to be good enough to be playing up from the back kind of thing.

West Ham Squad Changes and Performance

00:16:08
blessings
So do you think that he that's his sign in as well?
00:16:11
Jacob
Yeah.
00:16:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
for it.
00:16:14
Jacob
I think there's definitely been a a mixture in there.
00:16:17
Joe
Oh no, he's alive.
00:16:20
Jacob
Can you hear me?
00:16:20
Joe
Yeah, a bit laggy.
00:16:21
Jacob
and ah ah Yeah, so there's there's definitely been a mixture of you know his signings and you know Tim Staiten, our director, who you know has done great things for us so far.
00:16:39
Jacob
um Not all of them have been great. You know, like Rodriguez, like you mentioned before, he was a bit of a ah roll of the dice at his age. You know, he is technically a ah World Cup winner. ah And it seemed on paper like a great signing, but he hasn't been amazing. You know, he's I think he's kind of struggled to get up to the speed of of the league.
00:17:07
Jacob
and at his age as well. It's not easy. It's not easy to do. But with the money we've spent, you know, there's, there's no way we should be in a worse position than we were last year, basically. i'm And some of the signings are excellent players, you know, like Max Killman has been one of our best players so far this season. And you kind of feel for him in a way because he's obviously trying at look to look into sort of progress his career moving up, you know,
00:17:38
Jacob
ah what we would say is ah an upgrade from wolves to be you know kind of in a bad situation now where you know he he's obviously worked under Lopategi in the past he knows what he's like but just the results aren't there um and it must be it must feel kind of bad for him you know probably being promised this you know whole West Ham rebuild and then having such a lacklustre season so far. So I don't think ah don't think the signings are the issue because the quote we the quality we've got is there to be seen. You know, some of the players, Paquetta, Bowen, Kudas, you know, Sucek has been one of our most important players this season, getting on the end of, you know, corners and set pieces. um We just need to find our identity and
00:18:37
Jacob
you know just we shouldn't be in the position we are basically yeah
00:18:44
Joe
I hear it, I hear it, I hear it.
00:18:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:18:46
Joe
It's a, it's a, it's a Gollum sound in, um, it's a Gollum sound, it's a big one. So check is your, be your, be one of your most important players in that thing.
00:18:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Don't disrespect Tomasuche.
00:18:53
Joe
That's, Oh my God.
00:18:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
He is, he is classed. He is classed.
00:18:56
Joe
I didn't, I only hinted at, hinted at disrespecting him as well. I didn't even get it off in time.
00:19:02
blessings
I'm a big fan too, sir.
00:19:02
Joe
yeah but
00:19:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah I'll defend that man with my life. He is an absolute hero as well. And his celebration where he does a little spinning circle with his arms out, iconic. Add that to FIFA instantly. Amazing. um Okay, we're going to go to our second advert now. And when we get back, we are going to do a combined 11.
00:19:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay. So combined 11, we're going to start from the goalkeeper because we're not like insane start from the striker. That'd be nuts.
00:19:48
Joe
That is silly.
00:19:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Goalkeeper. Do you, who would like to start? Who thinks that they, their player is a shoe in definitely has to be in no, you know, qualms about it at all.
00:19:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyone?
00:20:01
Joe
um To be fair, um I haven't really watched much of West Ham this season. They're probably, them and Fulham, I'd say, the two that I haven't watched that not much of. so But I don't think Arriola is that bad, to be honest. I think he's decent, but he also has a lot to do quite often.
00:20:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:20:16
Joe
But I think Verbraggen has been one of the best goalkeepers in the league. I'm not even just saying that either, generally. I think he has been probably... We've said it on the pub before, haven't we, bless it? Goalkeeping has not really been a strong suit of the Premier League this season. I think if you're looking at some of the players who are like Chelsea a second, they've got one of the worst goalkeepers in the league. So do you know what I mean? I think... I'd say probably Verbraggen, Raya, Ohnana maybe, and that's saying something as well.
00:20:44
Joe
But yeah, I'd go, I'd go with a Bruggen person.
00:20:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah but that's fair it's tough when obviously ariola would be our starting centre back but it's actually been fabianzky that's been playing a lot recently and he played really well especially in the last game he played he played really well i think it's a weird one if if you're saying on like just pure ability you'd probably save a broken over fabianzky but if you're saying like
00:20:56
Joe
How is it?
00:21:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah the experience and the amount of clean sheets. And if you look at all the stats, like Fabianzky's had an unbelievable Premier League career. So I think he definitely deserves to be in the conversation.
00:21:18
Joe
Mm.
00:21:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
But like, I wouldn't hate for Brogan being in there because I think he's a really good keeper,

Goalkeeper Debate for Combined Eleven

00:21:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Jacob. I don't know what you think.
00:21:27
Jacob
um Yeah, i think a I think kind of like you said, none there hasn't really been one standout keeper um this season from any team, I don't think really. and We've seen good performances, you know, Mabrugin's had good performances, Fabianski has as well, so I think it's just a toss-up really, but just based on what I have watched from the last game, the man-in-the-match performance from Fabianski, you know, managing to rescue us a point, and I would have to choose him, basically.
00:22:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that's fair. It's a good argument. i think I think that, I'm guessing both of you guys want, both of the Brighton boys want a Brighton keeper. I'm assuming, I don't know if either of you are going to stay for a West Ham keeper.
00:22:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
That'd be a bit nuts to be honest, but, um, if, um, yeah.
00:22:25
Joe
I'm not biased to be fair.
00:22:26
blessings
Yeah.
00:22:27
Joe
I'm actually not biased.
00:22:28
blessings
Joe is biased. I think I'm the same one.
00:22:31
Joe
I've got some, I've got some spots that are literally just for West Ham players.
00:22:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay. Well.
00:22:34
Joe
It's not Thomas AJ, but you know.
00:22:37
Jacob
Uh huh.
00:22:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, well we'll go over very good in goal. Let's let's go. We'll do all the back four together.
00:22:42
Joe
Okay.
00:22:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Does anyone want to just say they're back four and then we can make our adjustments to it.
00:22:47
Joe
Who's your left back, Emerson?
00:22:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:22:52
Joe
And the centre backs are Kilman and
00:22:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Today, though.
00:22:55
Joe
Yeah,
00:22:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
See, for me, I think Juan Massac is definitely in it right back.
00:23:00
Joe
yeah
00:23:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
he's been He's been so good this season.
00:23:01
Joe
I agree.
00:23:02
blessings
Yeah.
00:23:02
Joe
I agree.
00:23:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's been really good.
00:23:04
Joe
the
00:23:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
And when you were saying before about and him not being that attackingly proficient, he actually has been really good this season going forward. It's really strange. like we didn't We signed him as this like you know kind of mythical one-on-one defender.
00:23:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Everyone's like, oh, he's like the best one-on-one defender there is. But going forward, he's been really lively. And I think it's he seems to have been kind of unleashed at West Ham. So I really like him. I think he definitely gets the right back spot. I guess left back, I kind of understand Estou Pinan because Emerson is good and he's played a lot of football in a lot of different competitions. I think he's the only person to win all three UEFA competitions as well. so That's something of an achievement, but I kind of understand a stupid young being in there as well, because because I think he's really good.
00:23:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's then, for me, I think the contentious part is more the centre backs, to be honest. I would actually say that both of the West Ham centre back get in there. I think Max Kilman has been amazing this season.
00:24:00
Joe
Oh, Jacob's not sure about that one.
00:24:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think he's been. so And then.
00:24:06
Joe
ah
00:24:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then I think to Devo, you know, he was wanted by like UVA and stuff like that. And we managed to get him and they're starting to create quite a nice little center-back partnership.
00:24:14
Joe
Yeah, I don't think you've ever won him anymore, to be fair.
00:24:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
So.
00:24:17
Joe
I'd just say Van Hecker and then your choice of centre back, personally.
00:24:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
What side does Van Hecke play on?
00:24:21
blessings
Yeah, that's that what I was going for as well.
00:24:23
Joe
On the right, on the right, yeah.
00:24:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is it right? Yeah. ah I take Van Hecke and Kilman.
00:24:27
Joe
Yeah, that's fair enough here.
00:24:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'll probably compromise with that.
00:24:29
Joe
As I said, not biased,

Defense and Midfield Selections for Combined Eleven

00:24:30
Joe
not biased. I was just, I just had to laugh at the unleashing Mambasaka.
00:24:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, no, that's fair. flat on
00:24:33
Joe
I never thought I'd hear that sentence ever in my life. That's a mad sentence, mate.
00:24:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah ah But yeah, has anyone else got any any disagreements with with those pics Really Yeah, I said over Emerson You think because I wasn't saying it because Emerson a bit bad I was saying it because I thought I stupid I've been pretty decent But if you disagree then that's probably not to me Really
00:24:41
Joe
I think that's decent.
00:24:44
blessings
Strangely, one position I would change is left back. I don't think a Stupignan's been that great for us.
00:24:49
Joe
Oh, did you say Supia? I didn't even, I didn't even hear that. No, Supia has been Pony, mate.
00:24:53
blessings
Yeah. I think I'll go for Emerson, yeah.
00:24:54
Joe
He's been Pony. Yeah, I'll go for Emerson, yeah.
00:24:56
blessings
yeah
00:25:02
Joe
No, he's missing a tendon in his knee or something, mate. He's not the same bloke anymore, no.
00:25:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
look yeah that's not good
00:25:07
blessings
Yeah.
00:25:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, we can go for that, then. We'll go for Emma's.
00:25:10
blessings
I don't know what's going on with these lights.
00:25:11
Joe
Bless you, I rave. What's going on?
00:25:16
Joe
Man's in a dance, mate!
00:25:16
blessings
Ah, there we go.
00:25:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
but ah right let's Let's move on to the midfield.
00:25:20
blessings
but
00:25:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll do we'll play a 4-3-3, just because it's simple. We won't get into all this 4-3-7-2-6 stuff. 4-3-3, three midfielders. who wants to is there Are there any shoe ins?
00:25:34
Joe
Belayba has to go in there, mate. He has to.
00:25:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I agree with that.
00:25:37
blessings
Yeah.
00:25:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's fair.
00:25:37
Joe
yeah um ah pietteta right can but Can we put Kudos in the midfield just for vibes?
00:25:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, Paquetta, Paquetta has to go now.
00:25:38
blessings
ah
00:25:44
Jacob
Mmm.
00:25:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Um, oh, you could do it.
00:25:46
Joe
I love Kudos, man. I think Kudos is a baller.
00:25:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Unbelievably attacking. Well, if you love him, why don't we put him put him left wing?
00:25:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Seems pretty simple to me.
00:25:53
Joe
Because Matoma, we want to get all vibes, surely.
00:25:57
Joe
I'm thinking more about if we put this team out, how much vibes is it going to be?
00:25:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, wow.
00:25:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. that's fair who would who would be that who are you putting kudos in for in the miffle it's not is there really anyone else you'd say a kind of more attacking with build yeah yeah
00:26:02
Joe
You know what I mean?
00:26:09
Joe
To be fair, to be fair, the thing is, is that we play four, two, three, one. So we only have really two midfield. We have more than two like central midfielders that we can offer you, but Jal Pedro playing the 10 normally.
00:26:21
Joe
So then obviously that takes away from like, I wouldn't put, you don't have a striker. Like, I hope Antonio ends up being calm, all that stuff. But folk rock, where's he?
00:26:32
Joe
I don't know where he's at.
00:26:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, he's been injured as well. So he's he's only played like I think like two hours of football in total.
00:26:34
Joe
Yeah.
00:26:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
So not a lot Yeah Yeah, I think what my argument would be was
00:26:37
Joe
Yeah, but then this is a Danny Welbeck podcast. So I don't really know. I don't really know what we need to what we should do. I'd say belabor. Definitely. Matt O'Reilly's barely played with his awful so far. um And then the only other players are Ari. So you might actually be able to get shoe check in there.
00:26:55
Jacob
Yeah.
00:26:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Would you say Beliebers more attacking than Beketa? I wouldn't.
00:27:03
Joe
Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no.
00:27:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'd say Beketa is more attacking.
00:27:05
Joe
Yeah, because more talking. Yeah.
00:27:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:27:06
blessings
Yeah.
00:27:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because I'd play Sucek in Beliebers, the two midfield. That's quite a duo in midfield, to be fair.
00:27:11
Joe
is it
00:27:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
And and then Beketa a bit further forwards.
00:27:12
Joe
but'
00:27:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then Kudas on the left, Bowen on the right, and Jalpejo up front. like That sounds like the best for me.
00:27:21
Joe
Can we swap JL Pedro for Danny Welbeck, please?
00:27:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah, it goes right.
00:27:25
Joe
Is
00:27:25
Joe
Because the only reason is, JL Pedro as a focal point number nine is actually not as good as... He's not being utilised properly there, whereas Danny Welbeck, he's just the guy, you know what I mean?
00:27:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:27:36
Joe
it?
00:27:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:27:37
Joe
Danny Welbeck is our version for you, the suit check is for, you know what I mean?
00:27:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah. Underrated. Yeah.
00:27:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay. Well, are there are there any disagreements with that?
00:27:44
Joe
Yeah.
00:27:48
Joe
To be fair, the only player I'd say that we, that we would definitely, we've had in almost every single one is Metoma, but I like Kudos a lot. But he was doing up some, he was punching up some dons when he, I don't know what was going on there.
00:28:01
Joe
I swear he's just come back from like a really long suspension.
00:28:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
It doesn't matter, just five games. It's not that long.
00:28:05
Joe
Just five.
00:28:10
Joe
But yeah, no, I think, I think that's pretty decent, to be fair. I can't believe Sue checks in there, obviously, but.
00:28:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sujek is class.
00:28:16
Joe
Is he though?
00:28:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's so good.
00:28:18
Joe
Jacob Gfinch, you taste good.
00:28:20
Jacob
I think he's like actual technical ability wise.
00:28:21
Joe
No.
00:28:25
Joe
yeah
00:28:27
Jacob
I don't think he is the best player in the world. However, the impact he has, I think gets, gets very sort of lost.
00:28:40
Jacob
Um, just generally how many times he's popped up for us. Um, And yeah, if you, if you watch a, if you watch a whole West Ham game, you'll probably see what he brings for us.
00:28:53
Jacob
Like he wins almost every header, like, yeah,
00:28:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, he's yeah he's one of one of the best people in the air in the league easily.
00:29:00
Jacob
of I'd say he wins eight out of 10 headers, probably against, you know, most Premier league center backs, you know, and he's,
00:29:10
Joe
Are we talking about going forward or defensively or both?
00:29:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Both everywhere.
00:29:13
Jacob
Both, both.
00:29:14
Joe
Yeah.
00:29:14
Jacob
He's ease's all over the gap, honestly.
00:29:16
Joe
Yeah.
00:29:16
Jacob
He's everywhere. um I'm not trying to pretend that he's, you know, the best player at the best centre mid in the league, but he, the impact he has, I'd say it's a similar sort of situation to like, McTominay at Napoli sort of vibe, like,
00:29:36
Jacob
just just everywhere and scores goals, makes big tackles and just reliable really.
00:29:42
Joe
Yeah.
00:29:42
Jacob
So yeah, I could see why it's amusing to non-West End fans, but we we we have a lot of respect for him.
00:29:52
Joe
I hear it. I do i do hear it. You go with respect to it. Everyone has their sort of like, would you say he's a cult hero? He's been there for a while, isn't he?
00:29:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think it's
00:29:58
Jacob
Yeah, I think we i think i think greek kids say that about him definitely.
00:30:00
Joe
Yeah.
00:30:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
the amount of money we bought him for.
00:30:02
Joe
yeah
00:30:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think him and Kufal, we signed for like 15 million combined and they they've both gone on to play over a hundred games for us each in the Premier League.
00:30:07
Joe
Sort of bad to be fair.
00:30:08
Jacob
Yeah.
00:30:09
blessings
not bad
00:30:11
Joe
Yeah.
00:30:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, you know, it's, um it's an amazing return.
00:30:12
Jacob
yeah
00:30:13
Joe
Kufal coming to the end now though, surely, right?
00:30:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Yeah, and a little bit.
00:30:16
Joe
Yeah.
00:30:16
Jacob
Yeah.
00:30:17
Joe
It's a twilight for Kufal, I reckon. He was sick at one point. He was really good.
00:30:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:30:21
Joe
well
00:30:21
Jacob
Yeah. Yeah, I think he's nearly there.
00:30:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well,
00:30:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, if anyone's got any objections to any of that, they have to speak now. Otherwise that's getting locked in and that's going to be our starting 11.
00:30:31
Joe
Bless. What do you say? you You've been lagging for time, mate.
00:30:33
blessings
yeah No, I'm pretty happy with that. I have been sort of trying to tune in and figuring out where everyone is, but I'm pretty happy with that.
00:30:42
Jacob
just
00:30:44
blessings
And I like C-Check as well. I think his skillsets are really underrated to be fair. So yeah, no.
00:30:51
Joe
That's got to be capped, mate. That's got to be capped.
00:30:54
blessings
No, I'm speaking right up.
00:30:55
Joe
Mate, I've known you since we've been in school, mate. You've never once said anything about Soojek in your life, mate.
00:31:01
blessings
No, honestly.
00:31:02
Joe
Never once, when we've been down the pub, have you gone, do I really rate Tom Soojek?
00:31:02
Jacob
he's he's just put on a ah compliment compilation like while he was lagging and now yeah yeah now he knows
00:31:05
Joe
Never said that before, mate.
00:31:06
blessings
I have said in the past. ah
00:31:11
Joe
Yeah.
00:31:13
blessings
Yeah, I was watching your highlights. i i was like
00:31:15
Joe
yeah
00:31:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, those suit check compilations have hundreds of views, mate.
00:31:20
Joe
yeah
00:31:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
100. At least 12 views, mate, on a suit check compilation.
00:31:24
Joe
And they're all you as well.
00:31:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I'm going to repeat.
00:31:25
blessings
yeah
00:31:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, one ah that's good.
00:31:31
Joe
But yeah, I think we're locked in.
00:31:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think that's locked in.
00:31:33
Jacob
Yeah, cool.
00:31:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Do you want to go for it? So, for Brüggen and Gull, Juan Basaka is the right back.
00:31:36
Joe
Yeah. Mm hmm.
00:31:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Van Hecke and Kilman are centre backs.
00:31:42
Joe
Mm hmm.
00:31:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Emmerson is left back. Midfield three of Belieber, Sushak and Peketa. Bowen on the right, Kudus on the left, Danny Welbeck up front.
00:31:52
Joe
absolutely absolutely right yeah there is a forgive you throwback bogs and 100
00:31:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's a team and a half, you know.
00:31:53
blessings
strong yeah yeah good throwback vibes in there uh before i forget i've i've actually got one more question um and it's any updates on micah auntonia or like anything you've
00:31:54
Jacob
Yeah.
00:31:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's a good team. That's a great team.
00:31:58
Jacob
Sweet.
00:32:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:32:00
Jacob
There is.
00:32:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, go for it.
00:32:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Jacob, do you want to go for it or do you want me to?
00:32:12
Jacob
not that we've not since the initial sort of obviously we as in when it happened we saw you know everything and then there was the official statement um you know saying that he's undergone surgery basically but since then nothing at all i'm i'm a little bit surprised we haven't seen anything from his side you know I mean maybe it's not a surprise really it's you know it's it's a shocking you know scenario for anyone to be and let alone somebody that's that much in the sort of public eye you know everyone everyone's seen what his car looked like and
00:32:42
Joe
He's trying to work it out probably, isn't he?
00:32:44
blessings
Yeah.
00:33:01
Jacob
Yeah, it's it's horrible. we were We were really shocked when we found out because he's such a nice guy as well from what we've seen. Obviously, we don't know him exactly.
00:33:08
Joe
He's so funny. He's so, so funny.
00:33:12
Jacob
it Yeah, it couldn't really happen to a ah nicer player. um and yeah There's not really been any updates, but you know he's a strong guy and considering how it looked, I think he's come off quite well in the grand scheme of things.
00:33:27
Joe
yeah he's probably lucky
00:33:30
Jacob
Um, so we're pretty grateful.

Miquel Antonio's Accident and Well-Wishes

00:33:32
Jacob
I'm sure he's, yeah, we don't want to speculate too much on it, but yeah, we're, we're happy.
00:33:37
Joe
yeah hope he still comes back at least
00:33:37
blessings
Yeah.
00:33:39
Jacob
Um, just knowing he's, he's stable and he's had the surgery he needs really.
00:33:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
yay Yeah, i mean it's a tough one.
00:33:46
Jacob
Yeah.
00:33:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
It puts everything into perspective, like someone that you idolise, and we all talk about players on the podcast that we do, and when something actually happens to them outside of football, you go, oh, I actually I really appreciate what this person does for my club like you know Miquel Antonio is like our top scorer in the Premier League he's done amazing things for West Ham and obviously people say the comments about his ability as a footballer but he has been such a good servant for West Ham and then on top of that he's just a really nice bloke he comes across really well and you never hear anyone talking bad about him and he's someone that seems to
00:34:18
Joe
Yeah.
00:34:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
make everything that he does seem enjoyable and he seems to lift the people up around him like you know whenever he's doing the media stuff and when he plays and you know his celebrations being nuts he's he has this like enjoyment for football and I think generally for life which is such a positive thing for the clubs or when something bad does happen to someone like that it's it's heartbreaking so we just send all our our love to him and his family and hope that he gets off as quickly as possible.
00:34:27
Joe
Yeah.
00:34:31
Joe
Hmm.
00:34:46
Joe
Yeah. 100% man. Yeah. Covid. Michael Antonio was actually like Harlan. I'm not gonna lie.
00:34:52
Jacob
Yeah, yeah.
00:34:53
Joe
That's unbelievable.
00:34:53
blessings
yeah
00:34:54
Joe
He also played for the same last time deleting. I did when I was younger as well.
00:34:56
blessings
Yeah.
00:34:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Really? Oh wow.
00:34:57
Joe
Yeah. but Is it is it two in a midterm or straight into in the played for ages ago?
00:34:58
Jacob
the
00:35:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:35:01
Jacob
Yeah.
00:35:02
Joe
Yeah. I used to play with him when I was younger.
00:35:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, that's huge.
00:35:04
Jacob
Wow.
00:35:05
Joe
What a guy, mate. What a guy. Now, praise up to Antonio.
00:35:10
blessings
Yeah, I wish there must be a recovery.
00:35:10
Joe
100%. Yeah. 100%.
00:35:12
Jacob
Yeah, definitely. All right.
