Hello, Podwalkers, and welcome back to not an episode of the Goblin Lore Podcast! Instead this week we just have a brief update on where we are and where we are going to be coming up. Hobbes has been busy prepping for the arrival of a new little Monster (as named by his Goblin Daughter Gwen). Alex's work situation has been in a state of change and we are entering a busy season for him. Not shockingly, for both hosts this also means Mental Health and Wellness has been affected. We are also entering the phase of Holidays which in the past has meant difficulty with putting out new material. We have some things planned (including a guest that we think will really get people excited). So sit back and listen to this not episode by Alex.

Again we would like to state that Black Lives Matter (with a link to where you can offer support both monetary and not).

We also are proud to have partnered with Grinding Coffee Co a black, LGBT+ affiliated and owned, coffee business that is aimed at providing coffee to gamers. You can read more about their mission here. You can use our partner code for discounted coffee!

As promised, we plan to keep these Mental Health Links available moving forward too. For general Mental Health the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) has great resources for people struggling with mental health concerns as well as their families. We also want to draw attention to this article on stigma from NAMI's site.

If you’re thinking about suicide or just need someone to talk to right now, you can get support from any of the resources below.

Hello

Podcast Schedule Changes

00:00:30
Speaker
Podwalkers and not welcome to another episode of the Goblin Lore podcast. I apologize. As the name suggests, we are not going to be posting an episode this week. Instead, I'm recording just a quick little thing to explain in part why we don't have an episode this week and also to
00:00:50
Speaker
give y'all a heads up that we're going to be posting a little more sporadically in the next couple of months. We do have some stuff planned. We have some stuff recorded. We're not ready to post any of that this week. Unfortunately, though, again, we are still planning to continue posting episodes probably next week. We'll

Personal & Work Stress

00:01:12
Speaker
see. After that, it's going to kind of be
00:01:15
Speaker
a week-to-week basis right now. There's just a lot going on. We've got some specific things, in particular is the name of these episode suggests. Hubs is getting ready for his new kid, almost here, and that has led to a lot of work for him that's made it harder for him to sit down and edit and sit down and record things as well.
00:01:39
Speaker
So, we're working through some of that. For myself, I have some stress and stuff going on from work. My supervisor has taken out a position at the company, which is wonderful for her. Very happy she's moving to something that she's very excited about, but it means that I have a new boss coming in, and I've been working with her for several years.
00:01:59
Speaker
It's just a lot of stress. There's a lot of trust and a lot of work I've spent with her and a lot of trust in the relationship. I've talked to her a lot about, I'm very frank with my current supervisor about my anxiety and when I need mental days off and I'm very fortunate to be at a company and have too had a supervisor where I can do that.
00:02:19
Speaker
My new boss is somebody who I know but haven't really worked with, so I'm hoping things are good. But even there, it takes time to rebuild that. Actually, as I'm recording this right now, I've been taking some time off right now for mental health. I just had some time to use up and took some days. That's been nice in the short term, but there's just a lot going on in the
00:02:46
Speaker
greater world at work. And just in general, well, we have the holidays coming soon, which is another factor to this that even if we kind of get through, you know, the next four weeks in the US, we've got Thanksgiving in that timeframe, we've got Christmas coming after that and New Year's.
00:03:03
Speaker
in the next two months, two, two and a half months in November, December, and even a little bit of January are just harder times. Even just workload for me in November is our busiest time of the year. So there's just a lot going on there. But but

Coping with Stress

00:03:18
Speaker
also, just in general, background stress levels are just much higher. Obviously, we're going on two years now, a year and a half, and we're pushing into the, you know, of this pandemic with things just kind of
00:03:34
Speaker
continuing because of some choices that some folk have made and trying to get through it as best as we can right now. But that means that just things are worse in general. There's a higher level of stress. I shouldn't say things are worse in general. For some folk, unfortunately, it is. For us, not so much. For Hobsonite. But there's just a much higher level of stress going on in any given day. The analogy I use actually
00:04:01
Speaker
about a month ago talking to my supervisor and she noticed that I seemed a little out of sorts. It's like I explained that it's like say imagine like a cup of water and normally my two years ago pre-pandemic you know my stress level may have been at one point at a normal day but now it's just higher than that.
00:04:21
Speaker
So as long as it's still in the cup, things are kind of okay. So on a normal day where there isn't a lot of extra added stress, it would look the same as about two years ago, but it doesn't take a lot more stress than a normal day to cause that cup to overflow. And that just makes it harder to get through certain things. It just makes it tougher. It makes it tougher to deal with stuff like this that comes up in very good things. Like despite the name, you know, that's a joke.
00:04:50
Speaker
Hobbs is very excited about his, you know, cut on the way. It's a good thing. It's a very good thing. But it causes stress. I mean, that happened two years ago with the cast where we had a similar thing around the time Joe was getting a new house. Hobbs' first kid, I had probably worked things too. I don't know. My work has been up and down over the last few years.
00:05:12
Speaker
Maybe that's when I was getting my new job. That's neither here nor there. So the whole point is it's just harder to deal with some of those normal everyday things and even the things that aren't normal everyday stuff that isn't specifically pandemic related, isn't specifically death cult trying to institute their rule in our nation.
00:05:35
Speaker
That's the whole

Mental Health Support Resources

00:05:36
Speaker
thing. So anyway, what I'm trying to get to is cut yourself some slack. I had to have a weird tangent that's our cast, even on this quick recording. My whole point, what I'm trying to get to is seriously, lots of things are going on. And if you're struggling, cut yourself some slack. We're struggling as well. I don't know if that maybe that makes you feel better.
00:05:59
Speaker
Lots of folk are going through this, you are not alone. So please take care of yourself. In our show notes, they've been there for two years now and we mention it every so often, but every single episode in our show notes, we have warm lines, we have suicide hotlines, we have NAMI information, we have resources for you if you feel that you need to use them, please do.
00:06:25
Speaker
It's important to take care of yourself, and there's nothing wrong with this. Humans are a communal species. Helping each other is one of the things that we do, and it's very important. It's been one of the missions of our cast. It's kind of evolved over time, but it is something that Hobbes and I are both very passionate about. It is something that just mental health and these conversations are important to have, and that's why whenever
00:06:49
Speaker
We have these gaps in our schedule. That's whenever we need to take breaks. We try to be very open about that because there's stigma and all this stuff going on and we just want to do what we can to push back against that. This is important stuff. Everyone goes through it. It's fine to acknowledge that you might be struggling and that
00:07:13
Speaker
Yeah, it's all in your head is something that just makes me grown every time because it is. That's the whole

Community Gratitude & Support

00:07:18
Speaker
point. Like we are in our heads. That's our thoughts and our memories and our emotions and all of that stuff is felt in our head and beyond that too. But that is who we are. And so it's like just because it's all in our head does not mean that it isn't something that's significant and very important to pay attention to and very important to work on. So please, if you need help,
00:07:40
Speaker
There's resources in our show notes. If you're struggling, there's resources there. So I just want to close this out. This actually has gone longer than I was expecting. But just a thank you to our wonderful community who is supporting of us whenever we take these breaks. We've had some large gaps. And this shouldn't be a gap. We're going to be posting more sporadically. But like I said, we have some stuff planned. We have some stuff recorded. We just weren't able to get anything up this week.
00:08:09
Speaker
So right now, this week, that's part of why we're not posting something this week, but I also just wanted to take the opportunity to give you a heads up that we may be missing a few weeks in the future, in the next couple of months. Our plan is to post most weeks. I mean, hopefully all of them, but I don't know that we will hit all of them. But beyond thanks to everyone, we also need to thank the Granny Coffee Company. They're a fantastic and very supportive sponsor for us.
00:08:37
Speaker
that has always been with us was we've needed to take breaks or that's been talking to Hobbs with a lot of the mental health charity things that he's been doing. They're a great sponsor and we're very happy, very fortunate to have them sponsoring us as well. So that's all I got. Thank you.
00:08:59
Speaker
for listening to us and dealing with my rambling tonight. Without anyone else here, it kind of doesn't have a fence to keep it in, so sometimes it just keeps going. But I'm going to cut it off there, and I just want to close out one more time by saying please take care of yourself, check the resources in our show notes if you need them, and have a good night.
