Introduction and Pandemic Frustrations

00:00:14
Speaker
Hey everyone, this is Salman Qureshi on the Expat Brat Podcast.
00:00:18
Speaker
How are you guys?
00:00:19
Speaker
Still alive?
00:00:20
Speaker
That's great.
00:00:22
Speaker
Great to know everybody is still alive.
00:00:24
Speaker
Well, not everybody.
00:00:25
Speaker
We've lost a lot of people.
00:00:27
Speaker
This thing, I'm sick and tired of talking about coronavirus, but I'm still talking about it.
00:00:33
Speaker
It's on social media.
00:00:34
Speaker
It's on all the news.
00:00:36
Speaker
It's in our air.
00:00:38
Speaker
It's in the people we usually meet but shouldn't be seeing right now.
00:00:44
Speaker
everywhere it's everywhere people and so those of you who still think we shouldn't be panicking man people are stupid right there's a lot of there's a lot of stupid in this world i would think i swear to god i think you know i i don't know if you guys have read this stat that there's enough food produced in the world tell me if i'm wrong about this all right
00:01:07
Speaker
But there's enough food produced in the world for everybody so that no one sleeps hungry, right?
00:01:14
Speaker
But we still have world hunger.
00:01:16
Speaker
You know why?
00:01:17
Speaker
Because we have more stupid than we have food in the world.

Coronavirus Threat Perception

00:01:22
Speaker
That's the truth.
00:01:24
Speaker
A truth bomb right on you, people.
00:01:28
Speaker
And it's the same thing with this coronavirus.
00:01:30
Speaker
I think people just don't realize something is bad until it happens to them or someone they know really, really well, really close.
00:01:41
Speaker
Until then, it's all just a fairy tale.
00:01:45
Speaker
It's all just something someone else has said.
00:01:48
Speaker
It's something that happens to other people.
00:01:51
Speaker
It's like it's inbuilt reality.
00:01:54
Speaker
in human beings to do that with any kind of problem and this coronavirus like you know i i admit to it i i wasn't taking it seriously but now with all the stats and everything that's been going around in some of the countries take it seriously folks and there's a reason because we've been saying it over and over people have been telling you over and over
00:02:14
Speaker
It's because you might recover, but there are some people who aren't.
00:02:19
Speaker
And this thing is spreading faster than my podcast.
00:02:23
Speaker
That's not a good comparison because my podcast isn't growing at a very high speed, which says something about you guys listening and not sharing my shit.
00:02:32
Speaker
But we won't go into that today.

Impact on Events and Human Behavior

00:02:34
Speaker
We're going to keep it light.
00:02:36
Speaker
Yeah, we're good.
00:02:37
Speaker
So I'm kind of tired of talking about coronavirus, but what else is there to talk about?
00:02:42
Speaker
We've killed sports.
00:02:43
Speaker
We've killed events.
00:02:45
Speaker
I got no shows coming up.
00:02:46
Speaker
There's a lot of stuff that's canceled.
00:02:49
Speaker
We've been starting to cancel private parties as well.
00:02:52
Speaker
We're in the UAE and we're kind of on a half lockdown kind of thing.
00:02:55
Speaker
So what do you talk about?
00:02:57
Speaker
What am I supposed to talk about except if not this?
00:03:00
Speaker
So how are you?
00:03:02
Speaker
All I can do is ask you how you are coping with this stuff.
00:03:06
Speaker
Yeah.
00:03:06
Speaker
So I want to hear about how you guys are doing with this and what have you guys been up to?
00:03:10
Speaker
And for those of you who answer that with I've been out and about God help us.
00:03:16
Speaker
god god even god's like i don't know man i i don't know i send a disease to make you guys think you know what's gonna happen there's been some great change i like i like all these positive people who go oh but the air is cleaner in china and the water in illy it has it has i don't know swans again some like that all right and it's all very good and nice but the but my lack of faith in humanity
00:03:41
Speaker
Probably means that as soon as this shit dies down, most people will go back to doing the same stupid shit, same stupid kind of things that we've always done, our habits.
00:03:52
Speaker
Even if this thing lasts four weeks to a month.
00:03:54
Speaker
Everyone's talking about how, oh, this will change us spiritually.
00:03:57
Speaker
This will make us nicer.
00:03:59
Speaker
It's time to reflect on how things are going.
00:04:03
Speaker
It's not true.
00:04:04
Speaker
Half of us is still going on as if our life remains the same.
00:04:08
Speaker
It's like unless the government literally locks you up inside your homes, we're still going to keep on doing the shit we do.
00:04:18
Speaker
I heard people are still going to try to go and have a night out.
00:04:22
Speaker
I passed by a mall and I was forced to.
00:04:25
Speaker
And people are just chilling there,

Coping Mechanisms and Public Response

00:04:28
Speaker
right?
00:04:28
Speaker
Just out and about.
00:04:29
Speaker
And you're like, oh, seriously, man.
00:04:32
Speaker
We're not going to last.
00:04:34
Speaker
Humanity, what are you going to do, man?
00:04:37
Speaker
And I get it, though.
00:04:38
Speaker
I get why people are doing it because we're not used to free time anymore.
00:04:43
Speaker
Any place where we might have free time where we could allow our mind to wander or just think or just be in the quiet, we get scared.
00:04:53
Speaker
So we filled it up with sound.
00:04:55
Speaker
If you're in the car, there's always music on.
00:04:57
Speaker
There's always a podcast on.
00:04:59
Speaker
There's always an audio book on.
00:05:00
Speaker
I say podcast.
00:05:01
Speaker
I'm like, okay, that doesn't mean you stop listening.
00:05:04
Speaker
All right.
00:05:04
Speaker
It's not that that's not what I mean.
00:05:06
Speaker
Okay, you got to keep listening because that's all I've got going on right now, especially right now.
00:05:11
Speaker
But we do it.
00:05:11
Speaker
We overdo it right at home.
00:05:13
Speaker
We've got the TV on.
00:05:14
Speaker
We've got some music shit on.
00:05:15
Speaker
We were always talking to people.
00:05:17
Speaker
How much time do we actually spend quietly or letting our mind have some thoughts?
00:05:23
Speaker
And for those of you who meditate, screw you.
00:05:27
Speaker
I'm talking to the rest of us who, I mean, we keep talking about doing meditation, but we don't, right?
00:05:31
Speaker
So it's just one of those things that people do and people talk about and we don't do.
00:05:36
Speaker
So maybe things will change.
00:05:38
Speaker
Maybe things will change.
00:05:39
Speaker
I don't know.
00:05:40
Speaker
Let's see what happens, all right?
00:05:41
Speaker
And I also don't understand people who are just like, oh my God, this is so difficult.
00:05:46
Speaker
This is so hard.
00:05:48
Speaker
It's not.
00:05:48
Speaker
Sure, you have to stay at home and watch Netflix.
00:05:52
Speaker
Don't tell me you weren't already doing that.
00:05:55
Speaker
Most of us are like, oh my God, my life has changed.
00:05:57
Speaker
Cabin fever!
00:05:59
Speaker
But it's not true.
00:06:00
Speaker
You just are doing what you're meant to.
00:06:02
Speaker
Just because we've told you to stay indoors now, everybody's like, no, no.
00:06:05
Speaker
All right.
00:06:06
Speaker
And there's crazy people out there.
00:06:08
Speaker
There's a story in India of this girl.
00:06:11
Speaker
Oh my God.
00:06:12
Speaker
If you haven't heard of this one, it is ridiculous.
00:06:15
Speaker
So this girl, as far as I remember, it was on Twitter.
00:06:20
Speaker
It was on the news.
00:06:21
Speaker
And this girl goes to...
00:06:23
Speaker
honeymoon

Irresponsibility and Personal Stories

00:06:24
Speaker
with her husband obviously and this couple to go on a honeymoon i think they went around europe and they come back to india and the husband tests positive for corona right they they take him in and the girl's father they're in a different town i think they're in agra where the taj mahal is and the father from their hometown the girl's father calls up and goes hey where are you
00:06:47
Speaker
and she's like you know they ask him to come in and get checked he's like nah this is gonna bother you just just come home so she ran away she got on a train and other modes of public transport and got home and then her family tried to hide her when these guys tried when the government tried to track her down and bring her in for testing they law they lied they they said she's not here eventually
00:07:13
Speaker
They got like a court order to inspect the house and had to drag her out.
00:07:18
Speaker
Like she fought her way.
00:07:21
Speaker
Like she was fighting it off to not go and had to drag her and get tested.
00:07:26
Speaker
And she turned out to be positive.
00:07:28
Speaker
which is insane.
00:07:30
Speaker
Probably her whole family is positive now.
00:07:33
Speaker
And all the people she interacted with or was around and close to on public transport in India, which if you've never been, is very crowded, right?
00:07:43
Speaker
So it's this stupid shit like that that people are doing that make me go.
00:07:48
Speaker
And these are educated, but she and her husband were like an educated middle-class couple.
00:07:53
Speaker
Not some, you know, when you want to blame people on being just poor and illiterate and whatnot.
00:07:57
Speaker
No.
00:07:58
Speaker
It's our educated people thinking we're too good to be tested.
00:08:02
Speaker
So that's what we're dealing with, people.
00:08:04
Speaker
That's the stupid end of humanity that we're dealing with.
00:08:07
Speaker
And then it's hard to tell who's stupid and who's smart anymore because I'm looking at people.
00:08:12
Speaker
I'm looking at myself.
00:08:13
Speaker
I have big plans for 2020.
00:08:16
Speaker
We should do like a list and laugh about everything we had planned.
00:08:20
Speaker
Like I had big plans.
00:08:21
Speaker
I was really pumped up this year.
00:08:24
Speaker
I'm not going to lie.
00:08:25
Speaker
More than the last couple of years.
00:08:26
Speaker
This year I was like, I am going to make a change.
00:08:30
Speaker
I'm looking in the mirror and the man in the mirror is going to make a change.
00:08:34
Speaker
That's what I was thinking of.
00:08:36
Speaker
And then everything has crashed.
00:08:37
Speaker
I was thinking of changing how much work I get, what my finances are like.
00:08:42
Speaker
I'm going to build on my beautiful relationships.
00:08:45
Speaker
And
00:08:45
Speaker
Oh, there's some things I can still work on, but oh my God.
00:08:48
Speaker
Wow.
00:08:49
Speaker
I set a 10-year plan, guys.
00:08:52
Speaker
I set 10-year goals this year.
00:08:55
Speaker
I was like, and I broke it down to one year.
00:08:56
Speaker
I did the whole manage your life, goal setting, life management, life coaching shit, whatever you want to call it.
00:09:03
Speaker
I put it down this year and I'm just laughing at that now.
00:09:07
Speaker
I'm just like looking at it and going, well, that was a week wasted of my life planning on this crap.

Personal Impact and Podcast Promotion

00:09:12
Speaker
You can only laugh about your misery, right?
00:09:14
Speaker
And that's what we're doing right now.
00:09:17
Speaker
So...
00:09:19
Speaker
Stay safe, guys.
00:09:20
Speaker
You know, I don't want to go on and on about this.
00:09:23
Speaker
So I hope I've got more to talk about.
00:09:25
Speaker
Listen, I'm going to be podcasting more frequently instead of a week thing.
00:09:29
Speaker
So do listen in and share it.
00:09:31
Speaker
It does go a long way.
00:09:32
Speaker
And I'll be honest with you guys.
00:09:33
Speaker
Right now, I've got no work, like zero.
00:09:36
Speaker
Okay, so work has dwindled to nothing right now because the two kind of work I normally do is training and events.
00:09:43
Speaker
the boat being like canceled till the end of time.
00:09:46
Speaker
And God knows if we come back, will there be enough people to attend my events to make it successful?
00:09:50
Speaker
You know what I'm saying?
00:09:52
Speaker
And so, yeah, so do please share this, get my podcast going, give it some traction if you may.
00:09:57
Speaker
It'll really go a long way to helping me out.
00:09:59
Speaker
And also, just like always, I do have a subscription plan that you can go on the link to this podcast.
00:10:05
Speaker
There'll be a link in the description.
00:10:07
Speaker
If you go on it, you can subscribe.
00:10:09
Speaker
It's as little as $2 a month.
00:10:11
Speaker
I know right now even that sounds a lot for people who are worried about their jobs and stuff.
00:10:15
Speaker
So if you're in that category, don't worry about it.
00:10:17
Speaker
But for those of you who feel a bit safer and $2 a month don't matter to you, do subscribe on.
00:10:23
Speaker
It helps me to keep this thing going, all right?
00:10:24
Speaker
Thank you very much for listening.
00:10:26
Speaker
I'll catch you guys very, very soon.
00:10:27
Speaker
Take care, guys.
