The Amazing Rewatch: Hello? Again. We're trying this again. Yes, we just tried to record. Luckily, we only got like... 30 seconds in. in yeah So... um Happy.
The Amazing Rewatch: October and Happy Halloween. We're recording this on November 1st, not on Halloween, but we will. Be okay with that. We'll pretend that it's yeah yesterday. um And then, yeah, this this month is all.
The Amazing Rewatch: things that start with the letter G. We're making our way through the alphabet. Yes. And we had started talking about G goodies as in. but Halloween candy. The best Halloween candy.
The Amazing Rewatch: And I was saying that I... Don't reach for... Tootsie rolls are dots at all throughout the whole. so year, except for at Halloween. They're the best.
The Amazing Rewatch: Halloween candy? If I was like searching through a bag of candy, those would be what I would pick. And... Yeah. Bye. know why, like, the whole year I'm not like, ooh, I really want a Tootsie Roll right now. or buy them at all.
The Amazing Rewatch: I actually do. We'll eat a tootsie roll like every once in a while throughout the year. But yeah, I definitely. Love those. Finding them out of the... The Halloween. Bye.
The Amazing Rewatch: I do not like dots, though. The texture is weird. The flavors are weird. I don't like those. I i disagree. I The Halloween candy that I got this year was like a big Costco bag of...
The Amazing Rewatch: It was Gushers. Fruit by the Foot and Fruit Roll -Ups. Was it expensive? It was like 20 bucks, but Halloween candy is... A lot. Yeah. I found a bag for 9 .99.
The Amazing Rewatch: at our local grocery store here. And I thought that was a pretty good price. Yeah. But it wasn't like as big as other, but it was, you know, multi -pack, but. Mm hmm. Yeah, Halloween candy is really expensive. And there's some neighborhoods that have tons and tons of trick -or -treaters.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. We... because So we I live in a town, Sadie does too, but... I don't think you have as many kids in this neighborhood as we do in ours. Yeah. Because my townhouse neighborhood is right next to like a single family neighborhood. So the kids, we do get a lot of trick or treaters. And so when I opened the bag, I i bought my Halloween candy like.
The Amazing Rewatch: a month ago. Yeah. And we've... managed to not open the bag it was like in the very top shelf of our pantry where we couldn't even see it yeah so it lasted all month and then I opened it yesterday morning and I was like oh there's only 80 pieces in here I don't know if we're gonna get more than 80. trick -or -treaters or not and so my sister -in -law was already going to the store to get candy and Jeff was going to go. help her do something. So I was like, tell tell her to get an extra bag of candy.
The Amazing Rewatch: just in case so she bought us a bag that had like Kit Kats and Reese's in it and we combined it and then at the end of the night we still had so much candy left oh really yeah I was like But I think what happened because like we went out and trick -or -treated with.
The Amazing Rewatch: Cece. Evie went with her friends which was weird. Yeah. Like she's old enough to just like go out with her friends and not. need us anymore. But it was fun. And when I think back... okay finish what you were saying oh yeah okay so i we went with cc and like Our neighborhood is all in the same situation. like Everybody has young kids. So basically, everybody just like leaves their candy on the porch and then goes trick -or -treating with their kids. There's only like a handful of houses that...
The Amazing Rewatch: Like it's. an older couple or like couples with older kids and they you like actually ah go knock on the door yeah um So anyway, we left our bowl of candy. on the porch, but I left it on a chair and Evie made a sign.
The Amazing Rewatch: that said like, take one. Please and thank you. And we put the sign in front and like... Then we left. And then when we came back, I was like, oh, you can't really see that bowl very well. So I wonder if like kids just like didn't see it. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: So. It's fine. Now we just have extra candy. Not that we needed it. by a ah My daughter's with her dad for Halloween this year, so I... just hung out at home, but I didn't want to keep answering the door. So I just. Put my bowl on the porch and...
The Amazing Rewatch: shut the blinds and turn off the lights yeah it was gone like pretty early i think so Well, she gave like half of her bag to my kids. Yeah. Because we came, we were already near her house. And I was like, let's just go stop and see Sadie. So we knocked on her door. and She like dumped like half the bag into my kid's bag. I was like, you're going to run out. I don't really want to deal with candy, but I don't want to be like the worst person in the neighborhood. But.
The Amazing Rewatch: um Anyways, so it worked out and then. But I was going to say. Um, Evie going with her friends at this age. Like, I don't remember. really trick or treating with our parents like from really really young in our town you would just trick or treat with your friends yeah And like never.
The Amazing Rewatch: Hung around or stuck with you like I was just with my friends. Oh, yeah. No, we never your friend trick -or -treat yeah truck or Trick or treat it. Yeah. Together, yeah. It was... And you just...
The Amazing Rewatch: Go. for as long as you want and and ah So we had we grew up in a small town and I feel like we would go... like Maybe not every house. But, like...
The Amazing Rewatch: We would go. all the way up and down main street and then like a few blocks past main street because like the way that our town is set up is like main street is basically like the furthest.
The Amazing Rewatch: edge of town there's only like a few houses on the east side of town, but on the west side it goes up like a few blocks. so we would go all the way up and down main street and then like go like a few blocks Up.
The Amazing Rewatch: Mm hmm. And hit like almost every house. Yeah. And June Garrison had the donut holes. Yeah. And they were so good. There's a house we went and got the fresh donuts over at that house over there.
The Amazing Rewatch: oh Last night. Nice. Fine. ah Yeah, she was always the house that we... Would always go to. and But every single house had... parents home to answer the door.
The Amazing Rewatch: So all the kids were just doing their own. thing. Yeah. But then you don't do that anymore. Like the parents go with the kids to trick or treat or they trunk or treat. Yeah. I wonder i wonder how it is in our town. like The trick or treat culture. Yeah. And oh, I'm waiting to see. I always love to see the picture of the post office on November 1st.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah, I wonder if they still do it. They they have. Like I still check and they've been doing it. the last little while. So like, it's usually like the high schoolers in our town. They go and collect everybody's...
The Amazing Rewatch: Jack -o' -lanterns. It's like a win -win for everybody except for... The guy that has to clean it up. Yeah. So like the high schoolers go and they like grab all of the pumpkins and jack -o' -lanterns in town.
The Amazing Rewatch: and take them to the post office, and it's probably highly illegal. To climb on top of a federal building. yeah But it's a small town and nobody cares and everybody thinks it's fun. And so they put the pumpkins, they just like stack all of the pumpkins on top of the and decorate the post office.
The Amazing Rewatch: And then there's this one guy in town who is so nice and he cleans up after every single year. Who? Louis Rasmussen. oh And he... Like he still likes it. Like he.
The Amazing Rewatch: loves doing i don't know if he loves cleaning up but yeah He like... You know, like his wife will post a picture every year. and Um, So yeah. I'm trying to I can't tell if this is from last year or today.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um. Oh, it says one year. Okay, so they haven't posted one yet today. Are you looking on? The community page. oh Let's see. Usually his wife pat posts it.
The Amazing Rewatch: Very first. Yeah. Right there. Another fountain green Halloween.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. Oh, so cute. Yeah. It's just fun. Yeah. they've been We've been doing that tradition for a really, really, really long time. Yeah. and it and like And like kids from other towns come and do it because it's like fun and it like I feel like it keeps kids out of trouble. And you weren't like.
The Amazing Rewatch: You just knew when it was your your year to do it. Yeah. Like you weren't like told by the high schoolers, okay, next year is your year. It's just like you knew. It was kind of like a pass the baton in your mind. And you were like so excited. and Yeah. Like people don't destroy other people's.
The Amazing Rewatch: decorations yeah no it's always been at least as far as i know has been just like a respectful fun good Time for teenagers. Yeah. Which is, they ah they need stuff like that. Yeah. so I know.
The Amazing Rewatch: teenagers are so scary i know
The Amazing Rewatch: Um. When you said that you didn't want to be that house with no candy that um There's a house in our neighborhood. It's one of my friends, actually. She. ah we walked past her house and there was a sign that said, not home, no candy.
The Amazing Rewatch: Like, okay. that's All right. That's funny. and I mean, obviously we have enough candy. yeah So it's like. One house is not. yeah the end of the world but i thought it was just funny Yeah, so just with the bull on my porch, nobody rang my doorbell. and mean um our sister just watched a movie and relaxed and it was actually really nice i thought about coming over last night but i So like the kids had like that. dye in their hair, like the spray.
The Amazing Rewatch: the colored hairspray so by the time they got out of the shower and they were asleep like I had fallen asleep on the couch. yeah Yeah. 10 o 'clock. Yeah. Well, we... um got started pretty early like on our movie and just like hanging out And the movie ended at like...
The Amazing Rewatch: Eight and... We just sat and talked and relaxed until like... 9 30 and we were both like I'm tired. I'm gonna go to bed. and's It was like 9 .30 on Halloween.
The Amazing Rewatch: yeah And I went to bed. Yeah, we're we're getting old. She was like... Do you feel like I need to stay until like midnight or something? I was like, it's not New Year's Eve.
The Amazing Rewatch: We can do whatever we want. We're adults. that actually was so like i i get ideas from chat gbt about like what things that start with the letter that we're on for that month and i was like okay we're on letter g And it said one of the suggestions was getting old. Hmm.
The Amazing Rewatch: and I thought about putting that on our list. but There's so many things. yeah Yeah. And the older I get, the more I'm like. m I know why mom said that. yeah I know why grandma said that. All those cliches and stuff are true. And they are for a reason. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: Okay. Well. What about good news? Should we go to good news? um Yeah, my good news is that I'm starting a new job tomorrow yeah that I'm really excited for and I get to be working from home. and i Just going to be home with them.
The Amazing Rewatch: Olivia and don't have to commute and she's gonna save Two hours a day on the road. yeah Stressful mornings. Getting home and like having to just. Make dinner, get ready for bed and go to sleep. Yeah, that's pretty much how every day has been. for years and like either the morning either is we
The Amazing Rewatch: Rush and Rush and Rush and... it feels terrible and I get to work on time or we don't rush as much and but i and I get to work late. like mornings are never like enjoyable and I hate that feeling yeah and then yeah getting home it's like I'm like so exhausted from driving like being on the road is tiring to me.
The Amazing Rewatch: And. Yes. And... Just like getting home and being ready for bed. Like being ready to just like do nothing and go to sleep. like I feel like Honestly? Like, I feel like this is going to change my life. I know.
The Amazing Rewatch: And I'm really looking forward to it. Yeah, so she got this job and like she's starting soon. And then a few days ago, she was like, Jessica, my dream job just. opened up yeah like applications for this job that she's wanted for years But it would mean she would have to move. She would still have to commute. She would have to work in an office. She would have to manage people. All the things that she was like looking forward to. And she's like, is it crazy if I don't apply? And I'm like, I would think you were crazy if you did apply. Like even though it's been your dream for so long. like
The Amazing Rewatch: This I think in the time of your life That you're in now is just like. what you need. Yes, like that would be more money. But honestly, I keep thinking like. more money, more problems. Like I don't. Like, I'm okay with getting paid less right now and just being... present and like focusing on like raising my child and myself. like I'm...
The Amazing Rewatch: Like I said, like this is literally i feel like going to like change my life yeah for the better. And I'm like really, really looking forward to it. and My life starts tomorrow.
The Amazing Rewatch: My, so I was telling, I was like, I've been CC. Sadie's starting her new job and So Olivia won't be coming in the morning. And Cece almost cried. She was like. What? Oh, no. I know. They've been like so spending so much time together these last few years when they've been together before and after school. so We'll still have to...
The Amazing Rewatch: I mean, we're obviously still going to see each other all the time. Yeah. And they still go to school together. Yeah. So. We'll have to make sure we... Do just a little different Now. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: It was... Yeah, it's going to be great. That's very good news for me. I'm very, very excited. Yeah. Do I have any... particular good news i'm going on a river cruise in a couple of weeks yeah that's exciting it's kind of okay so the i don't know if you've heard but like the water levels in um the in the daniel well all rivers in europe are kind of low this year.
The Amazing Rewatch: Because there wasn't very much snow in the winter? I guess that they are having the same issue that we are with just like not as much moisture. not Climate change, just all the things. It doesn't feel that way this fall. we I know, it's like raining right now. yeah We've had like more rain this fall than like I ever remember in my whole life.
The Amazing Rewatch: reign in my whole life. Yeah. And we lucked out because it was like raining the day before Halloween, the morning of Halloween. And it's raining today, the day after Halloween. But actually, last evening was...
The Amazing Rewatch: Quite nice. Yeah, it was perfect. Yeah. So. Anyway, um so we... We ah booked this river cruise a while ago.
The Amazing Rewatch: And... We've been hearing like these low levels and... plans are having to change and itineraries are having to change and we haven't heard anything. So I'm like, i I guess.
The Amazing Rewatch: Either they're waiting till last minute or our plans are going to go forward as planned. And we got the email yesterday. or Friday.
The Amazing Rewatch: That it was like, alright, we have held off as long as we could. But we do have to change your itinerary. So we were supposed to go from Budapest to... Bratislava, Slovakia, then to Vienna, then to Germany. But now The river cruise is starting in Vienna.
The Amazing Rewatch: Hmm. But they're going to bus everybody because everybody already has flights flying into Budapest. So like everybody goes to Budapest like normal. They're going to take us on a bus. to the ship.
The Amazing Rewatch: in Vienna, but that means that we don't get to see Slovakia at all. Like we're so we're missing a whole country. mm -hmm
The Amazing Rewatch: Ding. I know. I was actually talking to Jeff about this this morning because they just put in. They just put a excursion on the app. That like the morning that we're in Vienna.
The Amazing Rewatch: they will till still like take... people to Bratislava Slovakia and do a tour there but then that means We miss. like the bike tour in Vienna that we were looking forward to. So it's like.
The Amazing Rewatch: do we do that one where we get to like go to a whole Extra country. And get that country on our list. Or do we... miss out on extra time in vienna because we were supposed to have two days in vienna and now we only have One.
The Amazing Rewatch: Hmm. And if we... Do the Bratislava. excursion Then we only have a half a day in Vienna. It's kind of a hard choice. hmm yeah but i feel like vienna is one that i would maybe like more likely go back to spend more time i was just going to say like you should do Maybe just to get like the countries ticked off, go to Slovakia.
The Amazing Rewatch: But just do another. trip just to austria yeah because i want to go to salzburg too yeah because that was another thing like One of the other stops, the options for the... excursions were going to Salzburg or going into Czech Republic. And so we picked the one that goes to Czech Republic to get another country. and so yeah i'm like i just need to go back to Austrian do. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: More time in Vienna and in Salzburg. Yeah. so And. We do have kind of like a free afternoon in Vienna. We might be able to just like find a local vendor that.
The Amazing Rewatch: does bike tours and just do it on our own instead of the one that's yeah So. i don't know anyway so yeah good news good getting to go on an exciting trip i will get If we go to... slovakia then I will get four new countries. in that one trip yeah so So I was just looking at this article says. um Utah received above normal rain since mid -July.
The Amazing Rewatch: Severe drought decreased from 95 % down to 51 % due to strong precipitation. Over the last three and a half months. Um...
The Amazing Rewatch: I have heard that we're supposed to get more snow this winter too. I don't know who predicts that, but. somebody Somebody said that we're supposed to get more snow. which is good. Um... About four inches above what Utah typically receives from July through October.
The Amazing Rewatch: 4 inches doesn't seem like a lot, but... and It is for here. Some people get four inches in like... one rainstorm yeah
The Amazing Rewatch: Nearly 95 % of the state was in severe drought.
The Amazing Rewatch: And... 40 % was an extreme or exceptional drought. Anyways, so it's good. For us. It was kind of a scary year for like. Farmers and... yeah People that rely on that this year or for their... jobs.
The Amazing Rewatch: And then, but, and then there was like a lot of flooding too. in different parts of the state. but didn't affect us but affected a lot of other people yeah and like the unusually warm winter made like all of the like the fruit crop bloom early and then it froze and everybody like, like all the peaches were lost yeah in like the whole state. And then I also heard that happen.
The Amazing Rewatch: to pumpkins pumpkins were Oh, really? well But I was like, I so i saw lots of pumpkins. But I'm not a pumpkin farmer. So anyways, yeah, good news.
The Amazing Rewatch: um That sounds fun. your trip. I wish I was going, but. not the time. No. Um. goals.
The Amazing Rewatch: We can do goals. Yeah. So maybe like just for from now to the end of the year. Do you have anything that you're like wanting to do, wanting to? Um,
The Amazing Rewatch: Well, I already reached. Everybody at this point kind of is like, oh, I'll just wait until January. Right. I've already passed my reading goal for the year me too I was going to do 26 books. I've read 27. So...
The Amazing Rewatch: That's good. Um, I still am going to read several more. And... Um... the book i'm reading for november book club is called lady tremaine it's like about Cinderella's. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: But. It's about her. And so I think it's, I'm only like. three chapters in. and it's already interesting i've heard it's good Um,
The Amazing Rewatch: And. I think my goal for... Well, just like the next. couple of weeks and to finish out the year. is just to like...
The Amazing Rewatch: Try and... Live my. Live as my higher self. And then that just will continue forward. Like starting my new job, like this will be like a refresh and like new. Fresh start.
The Amazing Rewatch: And I. I want to just like start off on a good foot and just... you know, keep good habits going. and Like, start good habits and just... you know. Live as my higher self.
The Amazing Rewatch: Starting. Now. And. The longer you do that, the more they'll become habits and then that will just be. who you are. Yeah, i always I always like when a new...
The Amazing Rewatch: month starts on like a Sunday or Monday. Cause then it's like, Ooh, okay. Yeah. For starting good. And I know that I shouldn't wait for like a November 1st or a Monday or whatever. Cause like I've had that problem my whole life and I'm like, okay, I'll start Monday. Yeah. I'll start Monday. Yeah. But.
The Amazing Rewatch: And... Oh, sorry. well I was going to say. Things that I... consider myself like living as my higher self it's like Um,
The Amazing Rewatch: you know exercising and moving more and eating better and uh cooking at home and you're gonna have so much more time for that now yes i'll have more time for that and um like keeping my room clean making my bed keeping up on my laundry like taking my dog for a walk like all of those things. Oliver's going to be so happy. Oh my gosh. I really didn't even think about that. I know. Cause he's usually home alone for like.
The Amazing Rewatch: 10 hours a day or something so it's gonna change his life he doesn't even know what he's in for He's going to be like, please leave me alone. He's like, oh my gosh, this is my... 12 hours when I sleep. What are you doing here?
The Amazing Rewatch: Is that exciting, Oliver?
The Amazing Rewatch: Oh, um. Yeah. I... If we're technically speaking, I do have time for all those things, but cooking at home is really, really hard for me.
The Amazing Rewatch: We. end up doing just like cereal or mac and cheese a lot. End. But the hard thing is. That's what like they prefer. Like when I cook dinner, they're like, eh.
The Amazing Rewatch: Can we have cereal? yeah so it's like i don't really want to make good stuff if everybody's just going to be like yeah meh about it, so. Evie's my good eater. Evie likes when I cook.
The Amazing Rewatch: But Cece doesn't eat anything and Jeff is like, I like canned chili. Yeah. so oh Yeah. that's Olivia is that way too. She like doesn't want anything with vegetables in it.
The Amazing Rewatch: And... he so That's what all the good food has is vegetables in it. I know. the Healthy food. So. I'll be... Me and Jeff went to lunch on Friday because I had some appointments up near his work.
The Amazing Rewatch: And we went to this like Chinese place and I. purposefully ordered something that had broccoli in it so that I could get a vegetable. And he was like, what's wrong with you oh my goodness You know, I'm like, I'm trying.
The Amazing Rewatch: But broccoli is like the only vegetable I like. Broccoli and string beans. Yeah. And I like corn, but... Those are like... more sugar than... nutrient. Yes. So.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. I don't really like. I like onions. I guess. i don't know those are just like flavor yeah Um...
The Amazing Rewatch: So maybe that'll be my goal. Eat more vegetables. It's like There's just so many other... better things that Tastes better. Which, why did...
The Amazing Rewatch: Why did... that work out. Why did God make... vegetables taste so much worse than everything else.
The Amazing Rewatch: I know. Why is sugar so good? Yeah. Yeah, I... And I need to change my mindset of like grocery shopping because I like I usually will just do a big shop and then everything goes bad.
The Amazing Rewatch: I need to do a lot of smaller. Shops. more often. yeah like a couple times a week just What you need for the next few days. Yeah. i I read something on threads yesterday. It was like.
The Amazing Rewatch: My grandma taught me. um never go to the store just for one ingredient that you're out of you can find things in your pantry to substitute for like if you don't have brown sugar you can mix regular sugar with molasses and somebody was like if i don't have brown sugar what makes you think that i have molasses laying around it Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: And it was like if you don't have baking powder just use baking soda and cream of tartar. And I'm like. I have never bought cream of tartar in my whole whole life ever. Yeah. That's funny. What do you even use cream of tartar for?
The Amazing Rewatch: I don't know. i like I think for like one thing. Yeah. So that's funny. Yeah. But I don't think I've ever bought molasses either. No. I only did one time for gingerbread cookies.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah, I don't like gingerbread cookies. so Um, Okay. Well.
The Amazing Rewatch: Gratitude. or Yeah, gratitude. Yeah. So like. I thought this was a good one because we're kind of we're heading into... the Thanksgiving season. So. Just things.
The Amazing Rewatch: Things that you're thankful for. I... Feel like life is pretty great most of the time yeah and we're pretty lucky yes and there's always things that are like oh man i wish that that was different or better or...
The Amazing Rewatch: Whatever, but. in the grand scheme of things. And. I mean, like ah Amazing Race has Honestly, like. Taught me some of that. like Yeah. just and And traveling, you know, just like. watching the shows and traveling and seeing how other people live and it's like I really have nothing to complain about.
The Amazing Rewatch: No, I have enough food. I have a house I have. You know. we've Yeah. Like our lives are very, very. Easy. compared to many people in this world.
The Amazing Rewatch: Just trying to like be grateful for that. and I need to like... And this comes with time and you know different ways that you... can raise your children but like olivia will be like Mom can you buy this for me? It's only $19 .99. I know.
The Amazing Rewatch: You could say that a lot. Or she'll be like. The one time she was like, mom. can you buy this for me? And I was like, no i'm not buying that for you she's like you can use cash or card
The Amazing Rewatch: I'm like, that's not how it works. Like, you don't. You still have to. Yeah. And just she'll be like, can we go get a toy today? I'm like, no, you have so many toys. I know. What is it with the toys? are Yeah. So anyways, just like. teaching the kids to be grateful for what they have and be more like appreciative of what they have. I think I need to do a little bit better at that. and and Then, like, she has...
The Amazing Rewatch: stuff at her dad's house and stuff at my house and things are going in between and it's like oh I left that at your dad's house we got to go hurry and buy it or you know something like that and it's like Just... being more appreciative of what she has.
The Amazing Rewatch: Mhm. And I ah am grateful for... Living in Utah, the more I live here, The longer I live here and the older I get, the more I enjoy Utah. Yeah. Like I just went to New York City last weekend.
The Amazing Rewatch: with our younger sister. And it was. The best. trip ever like it was so amazing and so fun and perfect but It's just every time I go anywhere outside of Utah, I'm like, Utah is so...
The Amazing Rewatch: clean it is so clean Everywhere is so clean. And. New York City is not clean. it's cleaner than a lot of places yeah i just went to new orleans and i was like oh yeah and it's it's cleaner than a lot of places i love the city i would love to visit more often But like Utah is so clean. Mm -hmm.
The Amazing Rewatch: And so easy. And. you can do anything you want here and within just minutes, like you can go on a hike in 10 minutes. Like in New York City.
The Amazing Rewatch: You have to like take a subway to go to a park. Mm hmm. And Utah is very much. a car Yeah, there's i love not much public transportation. Yeah, I loved riding the subway in New York. Like that was actually like fun. and The people who do it every single day probably don't think it's fun. But it's just new. Like it's like novelty to us. is Utah is very much. dependent on vehicles.
The Amazing Rewatch: which I don't love, but also... you can also get to everything you want to do within a very short amount of time. no matter what it is. and Salt Lake is the best airport in the entire world. Literally the entire world. It is the best ever. yeah And we're not just saying that because... That's what we're used to. like It used to be different. It's like objectively. Yeah. They just barely finished like the last.
The Amazing Rewatch: section of their 12 -year reconstruction like it literally just they cut the ribbon like on monday or something so as the like a Like a tram? Yeah. Is that open now? Yeah. Oh, really? Okay. Everything is open and done. like Their 12 -year construction plan is done. And the 12 years... I feel like it's gone by really fast. I must have just missed that because I went to the airport on.
The Amazing Rewatch: Like last week. Yeah. And. or what They just. barely did it like a couple days i had to hoof it back to the b terminal yeah So anyways. It is. The cleanest, prettiest.
The Amazing Rewatch: Wonderfulest airport in the whole... Wide world. They've got huge bathroom stalls. Yes. Like, that's one of my favorite parts about the airport. Clean, clean bathrooms. Yeah, huge, clean bathrooms. And all the stores that they have or all the shops and restaurants are locals, local restaurants and shops, which I think is so cool. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: And it's so clean. So we're grateful for that. Salt Lake City airport grateful for Utah grateful for the Salt Lake City airport Yeah. I actually did like the New Orleans airport. Like when I landed, I was like, ooh, like I walked off the plane and I was like, oh, it smells so good. It just like smelled like Southern. Oh really? I can't remember.
The Amazing Rewatch: And. There was like... a lot of good food and shops and and the airport was clean. Yeah. um Yeah, there's some airports that I'm like, ooh.
The Amazing Rewatch: This needs an overhaul. I know one of the worst airports I've ever been to was Newark. Well, Newark, except for when I landed in Newark last week, I must have landed in a different terminal than the time before because it was nice. And like bright.
The Amazing Rewatch: and clean. When I landed there last time, I was like... This place is like... I think the last time I was in New York, it was like the middle of the night. So it was like just like dingy anyway. Yeah. And dark. And I was like.
The Amazing Rewatch: yeah It was like. So scary. Anyways. I sound like a Utah non -traveled person when I say that, but. That's how it was. But one of the worst airports I've ever been to is Seattle. Seattle. I knew you were going to say that. I don't like Seattle. Oh my gosh. I don't like it.
The Amazing Rewatch: And Denver. I don't like the Denver airport either. I have my layover in Denver. And I... Almost got food at that McDonald's. In Denver, and then I remembered. How horrible it was last time.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. And remember that. Oh, you weren't there. It was. When we went on that trip with grandma. to washington dc we had a layover in the denver airport and she wanted some breakfast End. I went to Einstein Bagels and got her. a blueberry bagel.
The Amazing Rewatch: And she ate the whole thing. And she's like, I didn't like it. I want my money back. And I'm like, what? So you had to go get your her money back? I was like, I'm not doing that, grandma. oh You're like, no. of not doing that And she doesn't say stuff like that. like yeah It surprised me that she even like wanted to do that because usually she's like, it's not worth the trouble for a few dollars. Yeah that's really interesting.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. and she ate the whole thing she's like i want my money back they're like where is it she's like Oh, I ate it. Yeah it was weird. Alright.
The Amazing Rewatch: Okay, then the last one I wrote down was gifts. Gifts. Gifts. Not gifts. Do you call it gif or jif? I don't think I say that word enough to know I don't think I say it out loud enough. I just read it in my mind and I think I say both in my mind.
The Amazing Rewatch: I'd probably say gif. it's a Yeah. Kiss.
The Amazing Rewatch: Is it GIF or GIF? I think that the person that actually came up with the... name says that it's Jif. But that would be... J -I -F Well, what does the g G stand for? Graphic, isn't it? So then it would be like GIF. graphics interchange format so gif Pronunciation soft G.
The Amazing Rewatch: pronounced like jif. oh hardgie Both pronunciations are recognized by major dictionaries. Okay, well. So you can say whatever one. I say gif. Anyway, but gifts. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um, So right after Thanksgiving is Christmas and... We are in the holiday season, which is... crazy Yeah. So...
The Amazing Rewatch: what are some of the best gifts you've ever received i'm like trying to think i'm like Gift giving is not in my... love language thing. It's like my last one.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. So I do I do like to be thoughtful and like give people something that they would like I am. I am. Not a gift card person. Because I'm like.
The Amazing Rewatch: okay you gave me a $20 gift card to this place and i gave you a $20 gift card to this place why don't we just keep our money and get what we want yeah Like. So I'm not a gift card person. Our grandpa has always said that, like, Every year when we do our gift exchange, he's like, why don't we just pass around a $20 bill?
The Amazing Rewatch: and then be done with it yeah Everybody hold on to the $20 bill. like for a second and pass it around. Yeah. Um, Yes, so GIFs... I like giving gifts more than receiving gifts. Yes.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um, I do appreciate like a good gift but like me trying to think of like what's the best gift i've ever got It's like. I can't. think of like a super meaningful gift yeah I think.
The Amazing Rewatch: I have like memorable Christmas gifts from back in the day. like a barbie like one year we got like a barbie and a dream house and bikes and robes yeah all in the same year that was like a really meaningful here.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. those bikes were fun yeah Um. Yeah, I'm like... Didn't we get Game Boys one year?
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. I found mine. Really? and pulled it out and it still has donkey kong inside there and it still works but the screen is dark you can't really see it so And it doesn't.
The Amazing Rewatch: it's like The old one that doesn't have the backlight. So you can only play in the daytime basically. Yeah. We had to like buy attachments to like. Yeah. Like little lights. Like reading lights. Book lights on there. Yeah. Um.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah, Jeff gave me ah a diamond necklace a few years ago that I love and I wear that all the time. And he... What? I he was like I was just really worried that you weren't gonna like it and I'm like The is that what does that say about me?
The Amazing Rewatch: Like. Am I... I don't think that I would be like, I hate this. I'm returning it. Yeah. Or. I don't know. like I don't think that I would or have ever been. like rude about a gift that i've ever received yeah I don't know like why were you scared why were you so afraid that it was going to be something I didn't like probably just because it was like more money than we usually spend on gifts for each other we don't usually do gifts for each other at all Yeah. Because.
The Amazing Rewatch: We have... Christmas and then our anniversary is like. two weeks later and then valentine's well no my birthday is like three weeks after that and then valentine's day is a week after that so typically we kind of just like do like, uh,
The Amazing Rewatch: a trip whether it's a big trip or a small trip or just like an overnight or something and we just kind of like combine it as a Big. Christmas anniversary, birthday, Valentine's Day. What? yeah gift i think that's good no i we'd go broke in From December to February if we bought. expensive gifts for each event.
The Amazing Rewatch: like if anybody ever gave me a gift like the most meaningful that thing that like a significant other could ever give me would be An act of service. Like my love love language is definitely active of service. Like if you are doing anything to like make my life easier or give me more time, like.
The Amazing Rewatch: That would be... the most meaningful thing to me. And mine's like quality time. So if Jeff was like. I let's go do something together. Like that's what I love.
The Amazing Rewatch: So. Yeah. It looks like it's snowing, but I don't think it is. It might be snowing up in the mountains. Yeah, it's really foggy. So yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: acts of service are definitely the Most meaningful gifts to me or my love language for sure. Yeah Well, I plan on doing... I already have some of my Christmas shopping done.
The Amazing Rewatch: I have like the main gifts for the kids. I don't think they're going to listen to this, so I can tell you we're getting them electric scooters. so We got a good deal on. Like prime day.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um. And. I might do like a pass, like a fit city. rec center pass Mm. Like a family passing.
The Amazing Rewatch: but like it. Call that a Christmas gift. Yeah. Like something that we can enjoy all year. Yeah. That'd be a good one. And then, you know, just like the pajamas and a couple of things from santa even though i think evie is Awesome.
The Amazing Rewatch: In the know. Yeah. She had... inklings last year and i think this year she's gonna be like We probably already talked about this. I don't know on the podcast. But yeah. she'll be it'll be fun for her to like still like ah keep it a secret for cece and olivia and yeah like but she'll feel cool that she actually knows and shares.
The Amazing Rewatch: a big kid now yeah Yeah, Olivia said the other day she she we're gonna put a tooth under her pillow. She's like I don't think the tooth fairy is real. I was like, what? how do you Why do you think that? She said, well, I think the tooth fairy exists, but I don't think she can go to everybody's house. I think she has bugs that come to your house and pick up your tooth from your pillow and take them back to her.
The Amazing Rewatch: I was like, bugs? She's like, yeah, because the little bug can get like under your pillow and you can't feel it or see it. I was like, okay. That's funny. Like the things that kids. Mines. come up with. yeah
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah, um my gifts this year, I'm trying to do as many homemade gifts as possible this year. so I have a few things in mind that I've started working on. and it's a fun thing because a lot of them are sewing them and I...
The Amazing Rewatch: I'm having a fun time doing that. so Yeah. Oh, I was going to say like a lot of the stuff that I don't have yet, I think I'm going to get in. europe like we're gonna go to a couple of christmas markets so yeah And two of the people that in our family that I have on our Christmas list are...
The Amazing Rewatch: going to be that Bonnie and and mom. Oh. So I'm like, if they like have their eye on something, I'll just be like, I will just buy that. Yeah, that's a good idea. yeah So.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah, that'll be fun. okay well that was we usually do like five but we had a bonus oh yeah we Well, we both said it and didn't even tell each other. Because I was like, I'm not going to put this on the list. I'm just going to surprise Sadie and be like, surprise. We're going to just go look at our Google search for Google history. But then when I got here, Sadie was like, we should do Google. And I'm like, ugh. I was gonna say that.
The Amazing Rewatch: Okay, so we're opening up our Google. My last one was Amazing Race 21. Mine was just. Gif. Gif. Yeah. Before that was weather.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um. What time does Teddy Swims go on stage for his ugly tour? Me and my mom are going to the Teddy Swims concert. This week. And he has two openers and his concert starts at seven. Who are the openers?
The Amazing Rewatch: I don't know you know. And. So we're like. um he doesn't come on stage till 9 10 and both of us were like oh my gosh that was so late we're gonna even be oh Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: and We're getting old. Yeah. that's Getting old for sure. Um. What shoes go with wide leg jeans?
The Amazing Rewatch: that was What was the answer? Uh, ah Sneakers. And it kind of depends on what... style you're going for but like Boots with more of like a pointed toe.
The Amazing Rewatch: If you're like trying to dress up or like sandals with a pointed toe or like open toed sandals. But if you're going for more casual, then. Like some nice. sneakers.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. Because I... Ugh. Yeah. I'm like trying to see what I need to get for my trip because it's like I need. Warm clothes. and warm shoes.
The Amazing Rewatch: So... does the Do the things that I have. go with the things that i have or do i need to get a new pair of shoes this is kind of what i was Trying to figure out. I think I've.
The Amazing Rewatch: I might get a pair of like gray. Boots. nice But I think that's all I need. I bought a couple of sweaters too. Cute. Um.
The Amazing Rewatch: another so one My other searches was Salem's Lot. That's the scary movie we watched last night. oh It was like a 2024 film, but it was based off of one of Stephen King's like 19... 70s books or something like that and has it's about a vampire And it wasn't super scary. It was one that I could. watch and i'll be too scared because I don't like scary movies And it was.
The Amazing Rewatch: If you don't really like scary movies it's not that scary. Okay. But there's still like a vampire in it. And it was good i actually. I liked it. The scary movie that I watched with my friends the other night was The Visit. Have you seen that one?
The Amazing Rewatch: so It's an M. Night Shyamalan. I thought it was like within the last couple of years, but apparently it was like. 2017 or 15 or something. So it's been like almost 10 years ago. But it's like. Kids. Two kids that go visit their grandparents. Oh yeah. And and that's like han not their grandparents. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: it It was... It was like. Kind of a few jump scares, but... Mostly just like. This is weird. Kind of weird. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: Patrick Stewart. Yeah. Because he just... passed away. Um. My... Other one is water dinosaurs.
The Amazing Rewatch: We have been watching some of the Ice Age. movies. Olivia's never seen Ice Age before and the second one there's like dinosaurs swimming in the water. that try and... Eat them.
The Amazing Rewatch: And so she wanted to look up like different water dinosaurs pictures and they're terrifying. Yeah. Anything underwater is so freaking like scary. But... The first Ice Age, she thought it was so... funny she thought Sid was like the funniest thing she's like is he gonna be as funny in the second movie as he was in the first movie That movie came out in 2002. I know. That's crazy.
The Amazing Rewatch: That's like... 25 years ago, yeah basically.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. Um, Josh Hartnett. He was one of my recent. Another one is ah the Gilded Age Christmas album.
The Amazing Rewatch: Hmm. because a lot of the actors in the gilded age are like Broadway. Stars or like Broadway royalty pretty much And. They're putting out a Christmas album. With.
The Amazing Rewatch: Different. Oh, nice. ah actors from the gilded age i'm really excited for it that'll be cool i think Of all the cast in the Gilded Age, there's like 34 Tony Awards. Wow. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: And you really need to watch it. I know. You keep talking about it. Especially tonight, season four. I don't have that. thing i told you to log into mine is it what ah hbobo hbo hbo okay okay so good season four starts tonight i'm so excited oh me and georgie did a gilded age walking tour in new york when we were there It was like two hours and it was just a few streets on Fifth Avenue. by Central Park.
The Amazing Rewatch: And it's just so... Interesting. The. what they've done to those building like those Mansions and houses were huge.
The Amazing Rewatch: when they were building them to be like where they lived and they've all been either like torn down or compartmentalize and like Apartments or yeah hotels or turned into like very like really small.
The Amazing Rewatch: areas within and like the insides don't look anything like They used to. yeah But there are a few that... r There was one that... um sold last year for $49 million, dollars a private residence. for $49 million. dollars
The Amazing Rewatch: That kind of money is just like incomprehensible to me. And the like nobody knows who bought it. It's kind of like a secret. like Nobody knows the... buyer of this $49 million dollars Fifth Avenue. gilded age mansion and there's another one it's literally if you're sitting on the stairs of the met Like.
The Amazing Rewatch: Where Blair and Serena would eat lunch. If you're sitting on the stairs of the Met right across the street, there's one that has been boarded up for like 15 years or something. It was purchased by a Mexican billionaire.
The Amazing Rewatch: Like. 15 years ago, and he's just been working on it for... 15 years. And has never lived there. Not even like. visited there.
The Amazing Rewatch: the That kind of reminds me of... There's a house in New Orleans in the French Quarter. But... It's like ah where a american horror story was filmed apparently but it's like It's supposed to be haunted.
The Amazing Rewatch: Because the owner of the house did like some really awful, awful things to her. enslaved people in that house and like they are said to like still haunt the house so like people will buy it and then sell it and then buy it like it's changed hands so many times because just like weird things keep happening nicholas cage owned it for a little while and then sold it and it's kind of and whoever owns it now nobody knows it's the same situation The name of this Mexican billionaire, his name is Carlos Slim.
The Amazing Rewatch: Bah! That sounds like a... Is that his real name? Yeah, that's what it says. It's the Benjamin and Duke House. Um, Oh it's like Duke University was named named after this guy named Duke.
The Amazing Rewatch: Okay. That's what Duke University is. And it is. Um... He purchased it in 2010 for $44 million, and he listed it for sale for $80 million.
The Amazing Rewatch: I know. So crazy. hu So if you guys ever go to the Met, you can see in this picture, like those are the Met stairs. And that's across the street. Hmm.
The Amazing Rewatch: you It was a really cool tour. it was It's been a minute since I've been to New York. It's been like... 15. Here's go. And like when when I went with. Brittany, my friend.
The Amazing Rewatch: ah ground zero was still just like a hole in the ground. Yeah. We should go like. as a sister trip. and during Christmas. Well... I could have gone on a sister trip if you guys would have invited me.
The Amazing Rewatch: Well... Just kidding. i was I was also traveling at that time. You were out of town and we bought the tickets a really long time ago. and Our hotel room only had one bed.
The Amazing Rewatch: Oh, okay. so It was actually like a sad hotel. We like walked in and we were like, we just started laughing because it was so like such a depressing hotel. It was fine. after I like calmed down for a minute because at first I was like super like This is going to be the worst trip ever. This hotel is terrible. but it You're not in the hotels for very long. The hotel doesn't matter.
The Amazing Rewatch: Honestly, like So there's... there's A few like tour. companies that are like five -star hotel tours and I'm like Why would you spend that much money?
The Amazing Rewatch: On just a hotel. Yeah. Like these tour companies specifically are like, we don't start. like our sightseeing for the day until noon. So that you can actually enjoy these expensive hotels that you're paying for. But then it's like you miss out on seeing stuff. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: So. I think the only time to like... splurge on hotels is when it's like like an all -inclusive if you're going to yeah be there for the week yes an all -inclusive or just like a beachy when you're actually going to be in the hotel like if you're going to A city to explore the city.
The Amazing Rewatch: You don't need much. yeah Yeah. You don't want bed bugs and you don't want yes roaches, but it's like we are. Sleeping here, showering here, and getting out. Yeah. Well, that's that's how this hotel was in this last trip. Where was it? You said it was in Queens. It was in Queens.
The Amazing Rewatch: And. It was not too far away from a couple of subway stops, so it wasn't like hard to get. back into the city. But there was nothing around it. Everything around it was like industrial. Like... construction. sites and stuff like that.
The Amazing Rewatch: Like. And luckily, the hotel had a convenience store inside of it, kind of. Oh, man.
The Amazing Rewatch: Anyways, it was just not a good location and not a great hotel. but We survived and... We were hardly ever there, so. Yeah. That's funny.
The Amazing Rewatch: Oh and the train went right past our window. And they had earbuds. plugs in the room waiting for you. And I actually slept with the earplugs in my ears all three nights. huh Yeah. yes So don't do that one again. Yeah. If you have a choice. No, definitely not.
The Amazing Rewatch: But... Harry was doing. 30 shows at Madison Square Garden. And you can fit 20 ,000. his every single third every single one of his 30 shows were sold out And it was a $20 ,000, not $20 ,000, 20 ,000 people.
The Amazing Rewatch: at every single show. And we had a show on the 23rd and then there was another one on the 24th. So that weekend alone. There was probably 40 ,000 plus people in New York City just for Harry Styles.
The Amazing Rewatch: And all the hotels were so expensive. Like we booked our hotel back in March because we knew how. that was going to be in demand. yeah And when I was looking at that same hotel,
The Amazing Rewatch: in September because I was just curious. It was Like. almost three times as much money as what we were paying for when we booked it in March. And that was all the way out in freaking Queens. mm -hmm Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: And it was funny because like every single restaurant in Midtown around Madison Madison Square Garden, like every restaurant's um drinks menu and menus were like Harry Styles. Like the city literally was catering to Harry Styles.
The Amazing Rewatch: Hmm. patrons that's crazy but isn't there like Isn't there something going on in New York City all the time? Yeah, but... This was like... A huge deal for the city. Like he brought so much.
The Amazing Rewatch: Because he started at the beginning of September. Last night was his last show. Hmm. And. Literally. hundreds of thousands of people coming to the city in the two -month period just to see him. Hmm.
The Amazing Rewatch: Well... Fun. Yeah. I really only know like three Harry Styles songs, so. Yeah. it was so good Um... Okay. Wow.
The Amazing Rewatch: I think that wraps it up. And thank you for listening. We hope you had a great October. And have a. Fantastic November. Oh.
The Amazing Rewatch: To bring it back around to Amazing Race. Season 39 is airing. Right now. And I like this season. Oh, yeah. it It's been a good one. It has been a good season. It's so interesting because we're watching season 21. We're going to release the first batch of season 21 on.
The Amazing Rewatch: wednesday Are we?
The Amazing Rewatch: Sometime this month. And. um Just already airport drama in season 21 and then season 39. There's no airport drama. I think they just have. I think just, yeah, the way that the airline industry is right now with... yeah How...
The Amazing Rewatch: Few seats are available. They have to just pre -book everything. Yes, I think. Because... were on episode like four or something and they've flown a couple of times and i they just all like oh we're all here now yeah they all just leave the airport altogether yeah like nothing they don't even talk about air flights or air yeah but it makes sense like i it would not be possible to do no i i have never ever ever been on A flight.
The Amazing Rewatch: like an international flight that's like not basically full. Since 2021. And if you have to get... 11 teams of two plus their two people that are with them that's 44 people to try to get last -minute flights. It just... ah It's not possible anymore. so yeah so it makes sense but that just makes like a lot of equalizers no airport drama yeah It is a little bit more exciting, but.
The Amazing Rewatch: when they have to figure out their flights on their own. but What do you do? Yeah. Yeah, so watch season 39 and listen to season 21. Have a great November and...
The Amazing Rewatch: Thanks for listening. Okay, bye.
