Speaker: Well, hello and welcome to this week's episode of the Purple Door Podcast, a friend's rewatch pod. I'm one of your hosts, Alistair, alongside the wonderful Deanne. Deanne, how are you today?
Speaker: Doing great, Al. Doing great. A little drained, a little sleepy, but doing great. We are recording this later in the day than usual, so we'll see if we can keep our our energy up for this one.
Speaker: Yes, yes. these With a little help from our friend, Caffeine. Indeed, indeed. It's a Caffe-centric episode, a lot of this. This week, it is the one with Phoebe's uterus. I am looking forward to this. We've got several good talking points that I've noted down. But as always, let's start with a little game of bamboozled. Who goes first this week?
Speaker: ah That would be me, Al. Wonderful. Wonderful. All right. I'm ready for it. All right. the first question I've got for you is what kind of dog is the puppy?
Speaker: I'm pretty sure it's a pug. Yeah, it is. Okay, good. It's so cute. I want a puppy. It's a kids my in-laws, Kate's brother and his wife. They've got Doug the Pug, who is awfully cute. Aw, good.
Speaker: does he look like the Doug the Pug in the books? ah You know, I don't know Doug the Pug from the books. Oh, wait. Or is that Pig the Pug? i'm Never mind. Oh, there's Pig the Pug. Yes. Pig the Pug. Yeah. He certainly looks like this Pug.
Speaker: Yeah, there you go. Well, okay. And, you know, there's this color pugs and then there's like black pugs and then there's like brown pugs. But Joseph went through a stage for like 10 years where he wanted a pug with that, with the little black ears and the yellow body. They're just as thick and cute. They are awfully They scare me, though. They scare me.
Speaker: Yeah, they almost look a little fragile to me, which they're not. They're not, but they're a small dog. No. Yeah. Oh, all right. Well, I tell you what, we'll just, I'm going to rearrange my questions to keep the theme going for you. Your first question. oh What was Frank's old dog's name?
Speaker: oh tumor. Yes, it was. Yes. Which is just oh yes so good. It's such a good name for Frank's dog. All right. ah Well, and if we're going to just talk about the pup, then let's do that. Who did um Chandler say that the puppy is?
Speaker: um I'm going to get it pretty close. It's in my notes. Carl Malvin. Carl Malvin. Yeah, that is close enough. It's a Malden, but yeah. Malden, because I'd never heard of this guy, so did some Googling on him.
Speaker: Oh, me too. I was like, don't know who that is. But then I saw the picture and I was like, oh, I know exactly who that is. And yep, that's exactly what he looks like. I kind of get it. I kind of get it.
Speaker: All right. My second question for you, when were the gang a lot more supportive of Phoebe? Oh, oh.
Speaker: Oh, no. They were a lot more supportive of her whenever she wanted. to Yeah, she was going to do something. Yeah, she wanted to.
Speaker: no. Oh, no. I don't remember, but I know. Because, yeah. she' She's going to make something.
Speaker: no.
Speaker: Al, I just don't know. Because now I'm thinking of dirty pottery. But that's not right at all. It's not. it's not Although erottery is a great word for what it is.
Speaker: which That cracks me up. I don't know, Al. oh She wanted to make denim furniture. Oh, that's right. Yes. Yes.
Speaker: ah Which could be cute. I had a denim couch for a period while I was growing up. And I loved to have couch. It was great to nap It did seem like something that probably has existed. It reminded me of, um did you ever see the TV show? It's got to be 20 years ago. Is it Changing Spaces? Changing Rooms? Changing Spaces? Spaces, yeah. Yeah, like that seemed like something that that would happen in there. That the whole room would be denim furniture.
Speaker: Yeah, for sure. and that would have been about the time. Because we got this couch my dad worked for, like, ah he was in, like, international freight forwarding and stuff. And so this one time, we ended up with a couch.
Speaker: because ah Because of his business. And it was so random. But, man, I loved that couch. It was so cool. That's awesome. was our front room. Yeah. You had denim furniture. I think that's That's so weird. I haven't even thought of that in a long time.
Speaker: All right. What color is Ross's mug when they're in the coffeehouse talking about kathle Kathy and Chandler's relationship? Yeah, I should have paid attention. I know at some point somebody has a bright yellow mug, so I'm going with yellow.
Speaker: No. Oh, oh no. oh trying to think I think it was Phoebe who had the yellow mug. but note the whole Through that whole scene, he is holding this big bright blue mug. ah it is and He's wearing the dark color, so it just pops.
Speaker: and yeah Through that a whole scene. so All right. Well, this one is, if you get it, you you you draw level. And we're go I'm mixing my questions up again. I'm sticking with the color theme.
Speaker: When Phoebe meets the puppy, her shirt and the dog's collar match. What color are they?
Speaker: I want to say black, but I don't think that's right. I'm going to wait for your final answer.
Speaker: Because she's got the stripes.
Speaker: And it wouldn't make sense if it was tan. I'm going to say black. It is also blue. Her earrings, her shirt, and the collar are all bright blue.
Speaker: Okay. So then what color is Joey's blazer?
Speaker: Oh, he's got the blue blazer. yeah I just had to stick with it. I love it. The blue blazer black, which we will get into. Yeah. No, you're stupid.
Speaker: that So, and I think that was all kind of improv because Chandler, Matthew Perry made the mistake. Like that wasn't scripted. All right. My fourth question for you what dinosaur comes from the semi late Jurassic period, according to Joey?
Speaker: Is it the Tyrannosaurus Rex? It's not. i think it's a tricky question. I'll give you another shot. And I will say it's not something I don't think I've heard of this before.
Speaker: Is it the one with the foot? Whenever they get to the foot in the... it it's It's right there. It's certainly in that scene. it. Because um I think it's where the boy says, you know, that's from the, something like the classic epic or something I hadn't heard And he says, shh, we're in a museum. That's right.
Speaker: ah
Speaker: Is it the, the, the is it, is it the scientist? It's not, it it is, it's a mastodon.
Speaker: and and the mastodon is from the semi-late Jurassic period dang it alright so then what period was Tyrannosaurus Rex from?
Speaker: So it's not Jurassic, I don't think, because Ross says it's from the something else and Joey can't pronounce it. The Cretaceous period?
Speaker: if That's correct. that Is that close enough? ah Yes. it is No, that is correct. But don't worry, whenever I sent my questions to Kate, I had in there the crustaceans because I had misspelled it. I had misspelled it and it automatically auto-corrected it.
Speaker: That's an amazing. Dinosaur experts, we are not. to be part we are not. No, we are not. But oh we could play a tour guide. That's right. Well, my last one for you is, ah can you complete this sentence?
Speaker: If you go to Disneyland, you don't spend all day what? On the Matterhorn. Indeed. Indeed. ah Yes. Yes. Well, let's see. i want Congratulations, You were on a roll.
Speaker: Two in a row. That has not happened since sometime last season, I dare say. Okay. All right. Well, we, you know. You're going to want to. Yeah, you're going to be. you know I need to buckle down. i need to lock in.
Speaker: You are still. if One, two, three, four. You are still winning 4-3 season, and we've had four ties. Whoa. Whoa. but yeah we're adding in just a little bit of um drama, I guess. Exactly. You are taking one for the team and keeping it exciting. Right. Right. And I thank you for that. Yeah. Yeah. You're welcome. It's just one of my many services to the universe. Speaker: Okay. How many days did Phoebe keep the puppy?
Speaker: oh I feel like it was maybe three. was three. It was. And my last one for you. This episode is the last appearance of who?
Speaker: The last appearance. It's not that one. Oh, Kathy. Not Kathy. Not Kathy. Not Kathy. and not oh phoebe older phoebe older phoebe this is the last time we see phoebe phoebe's birth on phoebe yes yeah she is done yeah she didn't act i will ah maybe talk about it later she didn't act a whole bunch after this but um did did do bits and pieces um Okay, so let's get started. We are starting off in Central Park. They've taken all the Christmas decorations down. Very sad about that.
Speaker: I feel like we were getting into what might have been a Christmas an episode, and then it's just gone. and then it was just over. yeah It wasn't even really Christmas. It was just the song.
Speaker: Yeah, it was like warming up to be, you know, into the Christmas season, and now it's been dashed. yeah um I wonder if it was during a writer's strike or something. Something must have been. feel like something random happens. Yeah. Playoffs, Olympics, so something. Something was going on because it's very yeah out of sync. But Frank and Alice are there. They decided to get married. They went to the courthouse for lunch.
Speaker: so What were you doing at the courthouse? Having lunch. Oh, As you you do. as you do um you got me thinking, I'm assuming in New York, obviously I didn't Google this, but I know in Texas you have to get your marriage license, wait, f I don't know, three days, five days, something like that. Right.
Speaker: I'm assuming it's the same up there too, something like that anyway. um Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, they are so they are now married and then they want to have kids right away.
Speaker: um So they are asking Phoebe for a huge favor. If she could be a surrogate for them and carry carry their babies. A huge thing to ask someone.
Speaker: Yeah, it is. Yeah. Yeah, it is. Especially considering like, hey, here we are Like this is the first time that we've seen or really heard anything from them.
Speaker: right then Do you know when the last time that we saw them was? Goodness me. um I mean, I can picture them there.
Speaker: It'll be when they announce they're getting engaged and Ross, and he's going to be the ring bearer. um I'm guessing it's that episode, but I can't put my finger on it. Yeah, the one with the hypnosis tape.
Speaker: One with the hypnosis tape. So it's been a long time. Yeah. And then they pop back up. Now, not to say that we know everything that Phoebe's been up to since then.
Speaker: Right. you know, it just, it seemed pretty weird. And they're still just as weird with their random, inappropriate displays of affection. They do seem naive to the fact there are other people around, I would say. yes Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: We um end up in the girls' apartment. I think it's Chandler, Rachel, and Monica. I did write down that they had blue playing cards they were throwing, in case you asked. yeah Of course they were blue. There's a so much blue in this. There's a lot of blue ah going on. They're kind just throwing cards into a cup, I think, on the table.
Speaker: And this is when Joey comes in, looking very pleased with himself. He has a new job. Ross has hooked him up at the museum, and he comes in with his blue blazer.
Speaker: Donald Trump. Oh, no, I was just going to say it's one of the most like infamous mess ups, whatever what we call it, where Chandler says, was a blue blazer black. Donald Trump wants his blue blazer black.
Speaker: um which you know we will obviously won't get political because this wasn't political but when this came out i mean obviously he was a well-known business guy was he well known for having these blue blazers i didn't i didn't know anything about that i i don't yeah i don't know i yeah did not have on a blue blazer whenever we saw him in home alone 2? Home mal Alone 2? Home Alone 2. Yeah, lost in New York. That's it. Yeah. cause that's Yeah, I didn't know if that was like his thing at the time or something. I don't know. um
Speaker: But i love the way they play off Chandler. um You know, Chandler always making always making cracks and jokes and messed up this one, which was just so funny. Yes. And it was awkward because he's just like... ah And then both the girls...
Speaker: um you're stupid yeah it was so well done ah phoebe comes in i love the way that she makes this announcement it like she's kind of exasperated or you know just oh, hi, they've asked me to carry their baby. Like it's just been a long day or something. I don't know. I love the way that Lisa Kudrow acts in this scene. She announces that Frank and Alice, I think she announces that they've gotten married, right? And then they have a plan.
Speaker: She's already kind of decided to do it, I think. But then the others make her realize, hold on, this might not be such a great idea.
Speaker: ah i think Am I right in saying that she basically decided to do it until they kind of talk her down? yeah Oh, yeah, for sure. Because tells them, you know, and they got married and they're all like, oh, yay. And they're having a baby and they're like, oh, yay. And then and it's going to be in my uterus. And they're like, what? And then I liked it whenever Chandler said, you know, about, because she's like, you know, it'll be the greatest gift. And he's like, you're going to carry their baby and give them a Sony PlayStation? Yes.
Speaker: I did wonder about that. i was like, to call it a name brand console, I was like, wonder. But I don't think it was any kind of product placement because there was nothing else to it. You know, I think it was just a, you know what we did? what what happened this week?
Speaker: you've just This has just reminded me. We've been having so much fun. So it was my birthday yeah a month ago. But yeah um my two step-sons and step-daughter had got together and they bought me a present and they gave it to me this week. And it was an old school Wii.
Speaker: Because I've been telling them for six months or so, was like, Ben, I miss playing Mario Kart. haven't played Mario Kart in 10 years. So they went out and got that for me. I think um I must have mentioned it ages ago too, because they went out and got it. We've been having some fun, old school, the steering wheel, playing a bit Mario Kart.
Speaker: I love that. Nice. Okay. So do ah are you how many of y'all are able to play it at a time? ah Just the two. We have two controllers, two wheels, and that's been plenty. Kate and I have been having a good time with that. And she's been getting into it. I went and bought ah Lego Batman, say which I didn't know was a game. She loved that game. So she's been having a great time yeah on the on the the retro console.
Speaker: um It's been been loads and loads of fun. So that the Sony PlayStation reminded me. I love that for y'all. That's great. yeah's because Yeah, tremendous fun that's been. um Let's see. Oh, so Rachel suggests that Phoebe goes and talks to her birth mom or originally says her mom. and's like Phoebe's like, oh I can't do that. She's dead.
Speaker: um So go and talk to her birth mom, which seems like a pretty good idea on Rachel's part here. We go over to Central Park. Kathy is back. Back from Chicago, visiting her parents. and she and Chandler are picking up right where they left off.
Speaker: ah I was writing my notes thinking this is a family friendly podcast. i need to be careful how I write my notes. Yeah. So Chandler and Kathy revealed they have not taken their relationship to the next level is what I've written down. And he is worried because she dated Joey and agreed with him a lot. i was like, I guess that's how we're going to phrase it. Yeah.
Speaker: But it's ah i i I do like Chandler and Kathy together at this point. I think that there it's they're a cute couple, I think. Yeah. I think too. Yeah. Yeah, they they seem well-suited. We go over to the museum, and Joey is giving the tour. Again, everything is from some sort of Jurassic period. Yeah.
Speaker: That kid, I kind of find him funny. like we've ah We've both been in education a long time. We've come across awesome kids like this who know better than the teacher and...
Speaker: Who know, yeah, like everything. And heaven forbid it's a dinosaur. Like, there are some kids that, yep, they are experts.
Speaker: And this kid is one of them. He is one of them. I saw a thing, the um it was online, take it for what it's worth, I don't know if it's actually true, but about Jurassic Park, which I love. One of my favorite movies all time.
Speaker: The best soundtrack of all time. The dinosaurs are in it for just under 25 minutes. And that's it. Really? Yeah. i want to i'm going to like its shit This has just reminded me to go and fact check that.
Speaker: But all the stuff before, after, and even during, actually a dinosaur on the on the screen is is said it was just under 25 minutes.
Speaker: Huh. Yeah. So, I don't know. I'll see if that's see if that's true. They see Ross in the display. Doing his little, his trick is a pencil or a pen or something.
Speaker: Okay, so one of the websites that I was looking at, it was saying, you know, that it was a piece of chalk. I think, if I thought it was a brush for what he was doing with bones. That would make more sense. thought it was a little brush. So that's what I feel like that was.
Speaker: That would make more, because I can't think what's a pencil, but it didn't really look like a pencil. ha to me so that would make more sense um yeah yeah I do quite ah again just a little throwaway line but Joey's line of view there's you know Ross Geller hard at work yeah like he's kind of selling him that's the thing that he's not really that hard at work um and then he's so embarrassed and he's like okay moving on Because he looks embarrassed. all right I mean, that's the vibe i got. that It was like, oh. Yeah, I think Joey was kind of getting into this job. I mean, I think it plays into his acting and being on stage and all of that. um Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah. ah Just did a quick thing. Sorry, a quick Google. As it says, that the dinosaurs are only on the screen for 15 minutes total in Jurassic Park.
Speaker: There you go. That's so crazy. Again, read it on the internet, take it for what it's worth. But that's kind of wild. Yeah, but I like Joey in this. show I feel this is a good job for Joey. Oh, yeah. Again, he's not going to have stage fright. you know He's going to lead a group well. He just needs to just needs to learn the information.
Speaker: Yes. Yes. um We end up over at the beach house. Phoebe is at her birth mom's house. ah She's working on a rotary, which it's just it's such a good name that Phoebe comes up with. um ah Phoebe Senior is not keen on Phoebe doing this, as she knows what it's like to give up a baby.
Speaker: And it's highly ah discouraging of of our Phoebe from doing this. um We go over to the museum, cafeteria, lunchroom, break room.
Speaker: Joey was saving a seat, but the colleague, who Sherry Shepard, who's gone on to do all sorts of huge famous thing she's had a very successful career lets him know that the blue blazers sit at one table and the white coats they call them white coats or lab coats I don't know what they call them white coats the other white coats Joey claims he didn't know Ross was a doctor Now, I did notice earlier in this episode, he says there's, you know Ross Gellar hard at work. He didn't say Dr. Gellar.
Speaker: There's no way, even Joey, there's no way he wouldn't know that Ross has the title of doctor. Yeah, for sure. But he thought he was like, because then he'd say, oh, you know, I didn't know he had a nickname, ah you know, or something like that. Like, doctor.
Speaker: like right I think he just wasn't connecting. I don't know. But yeah, no, it was so silly. Yeah, even Joey.
Speaker: I love Sherry Shepard in this episode um where she gets really mad at, I think it's Peter, the guy she went to school with. I did look up because she said they both went to PS 129. There are two schools that have the number PS 129 in New York City. um John H. Finley School in Manhattan, which is um kindergarten through eighth, and then a school called the Patricia Larkin School, which is located in Queens.
Speaker: So, ah yeah, could have been either one. Could have been either one. But it is a real school, which I always choose to believe that means a writer or somebody went to that one of those schools.
Speaker: Yeah, I A little tip of the hat to their school. Yeah, she shouts at Peter. He ignores her. He's not going to answer. um I just I think she's great. Super, super funny.
Speaker: um And that we go to the girls' apartment. Oh, sorry, go ahead. Joseph was convinced that she was on something. So as a we're yeah talking, I'm going to I know she does, okay, I don't know what TV show, The View, like some morning chat show and has done for years, but she's done other stuff. She was in Everybody Loves Raymond.
Speaker: Yeah. Yes, Sherry Shepard. One of my favorite Everybody Loves Raymond episode. um I've only watch i've watched it through once, I think. I think I've watched it through once. I've not watched it a lot, but there's one where she she's Robert's colleague, his partner on the police force.
Speaker: and oh yeah and then they he goes out with her to a club and things and let's just say takes on a whole new character you know and it's so funny like yeah brad garrett is just a tremendous in that role and plays it so well but yeah so she pops up in raymond now and again and then i'm sure she's been in a bunch of other stuff Yeah. What did Joseph recognize her from? Or was he not sure? He just knew her. No, he was trying to tell me that she was on Abbott Elementary. And I was like, no, that no. I said, she is somebody and she is famous, as it but that she is not on Abbott Elementary. Now that is, her name has escaped me. I know who he's talking about because they kind of look like each other.
Speaker: But there's, i think there's a generation gap there. Yeah. She's got her own TV show named called Sherry. Oh, does she? Fantastic. It's 383 episodes. Wow. Like, it's still on and going. Good for her. Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah. Yeah, she has just gone gone on to incredible things. Good for her. um Yeah. Let's see. I think at this point I've written my notes in the wrong order, but Ross comes in and he apologizes. Oh, no, Ross, that's right. They're in the girls' apartment. Ross comes in Well, i guess in the previous previous scene, Ross comes in, Joey says, I've saved a seat for you. And he's like, no, no, I'm going to sit over here. I'll catch up with you later.
Speaker: Yes. Yes. Yeah. come Come on, Ross. Come on, Ross. Loser. So mean. He does come in. in the girls' apartment. Ross comes in and apologizes and just kind of said, this is the way it is. I'm really sorry. But the blue blazers and the white coats never sit together.
Speaker: Poor old Monica. She sits and eats in the alley because everyone hates her at her job. So i do I do feel bad for her. um Joey's, think, trying to understand. like He says it's cool, he gets it but he's clearly hurt.
Speaker: And then kind of leaves and he's like, I'll just see you. See you tomorrow. Um... I think it was still in the girls apartment at this point where yeah, Phoebe's there with the puppy.
Speaker: um and And Chandler comes in and that's where he says, why is Phoebe holding or kissing? Yeah, why is Phoebe holding Carl Malden? So why don't you tell me what you found out? I'd never heard of Carl Malden outside of this episode.
Speaker: Okay, so he is just, he's a funny actor. um He's a comedian. He's in a bunch of stuff, like whenever I was young, little. um He was in the movie Patton, which was a Marine Corps movie that my dad watched a lot, and but it has the big line. Yeah.
Speaker: I can't think of it right now, but there's a lot of lines that and people say that are just a normal thing, you know, conversation. Right. and patton But like how the West was one and he was in Pollyanna. He was a crabby guy in Pollyanna.
Speaker: um But just a whole lot of old movies and things. So that's all I got for you. Yeah, it's pretty much what I had. I did see he was in Tennessee Williams, A Streetcar Named Desire, All My Sons by Arthur Miller.
Speaker: So, yeah, he had, yeah, I mean, for all accounts, a very long and successful career. So he did well. So, yeah, go ahead. He had very unique look.
Speaker: Yeah, like there's no mistaking that face when you see it. Yes. And ah did you know him and Michael Douglas were really close? No, I didn't know but that. That's random.
Speaker: Yeah, I like it. You know what? Remind me at the end. I've got a random thing to tell you about friends that I found out um just the other week. It doesn't fit anything we're talking about now. So I'll tell you at the end something I heard that was kind of cool.
Speaker: um Chandler comes in. He and Kathy have taken their relationship to the next level, but she didn't agree with him like she agrees with Joey. And I can't think how to talk about this on a family-friendly podcast, but it's the famous Monica Seven scene that's very funny. How they got through this, I'll never know.
Speaker: no I did mean to go back and look to see if Jennifer Aniston covers her mouth a lot, which she does when she's trying not to break. yeah I didn't feel like she did or I would have noticed it. No, but she was awkward in a bunch of like different spots. and like whenever she talked about the toes and had her arms up, I was just it's just kind of awkward, but you know, whatever. Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah, it was yeah it's it it was a peculiar scene. I mean, not to take away from it. It's such a famous, funny scene. um Yeah, i've I've seen t-shirts that have all the numbers in a row and stuff like that. that's It's so good. Yeah, yes.
Speaker: We go back over to the the museum cafeteria, one of, if not my favourite scene from this episode where Ross makes his speech. um He stands in the middle of the cafeteria and they work in the Museum of Natural History, but there's something...
Speaker: unnatural about the way they have lunch and it's such a Ross pause um I mean, his a Ken Chandler does it too and I just love it and the kind of it's not chaos but everything that follows on from this with the the jacket throwing and the random facts that everybody shares they're good there were so I know we both had questions about all the people that stood up that we had to take away from ah from um our trivia from Bamboozled. But yeah, we learn all these random things, strange things about these these peculiar people. But I like it. good for Good on Ross for taking a stand, I say, in this one.
Speaker: I've got to give it to in this scene. Okay. we go We go to Central Park. Phoebe's mum comes in um to pick up the puppies.
Speaker: um Phoebe is like super sad. She's like, I can't do it. Okay, I'm not going to be be a surrogate. I'm going to be able to carry the baby. But then Frank and Alice come in who just happen to be around even though i'm pretty sure they still live upstate. like oh yeah. yeah but the They didn't just happen to... No. They're going to find Phoebe and find out what she's going Yeah, so it seems to me they've probably stayed in the city for a long weekend, but yet they haven't really done anything with Phoebe, which seems odd
Speaker: Um, but Frank and Alice, you know Phoebe lets them see the puppy and they love it. and Phoebe realizes that look at the joy, um, and gives them the puppy and decides she can carry the baby because yeah, it might be tough, but look at the joy.
Speaker: Um, it's going to give them. And then Pearl Phoebe senior walks in. It, uh, Turns out it was her dog that Phoebe has now just given away.
Speaker: And our Phoebe lets her know of her decision. I did mention in um bamboozled that this was the last appearance of Terry Garr playing Phoebe's mum. So she had um multiple sclerosis at the time.
Speaker: She'd had it for a couple of years and was, ah from what I read, was starting to scale back just a little bit. So she stepped away from friends. But she lived until just two years ago. She died in 2024. So lived, from all accounts, a very long and, you know,
Speaker: as say as healthy as you could be she kept acting just not as much late into her life so good for you and thank you Terry Garfer for all she brought to friends because it was just fantastic weasel we do end this episode we're back in the girls apartment um quite a sweet moment I think who did you gloss over the fact that it was actually Phoebe's mom's puppy I mentioned it. Yeah. oh and you know, that's like a purebred dog that probably costs some money. Oh, yeah.
Speaker: Surely she got it back, right? Like, I'm so sorry. that wasn't my dog. to I would hope so. And I think Frank and Alice would understand. And they're about to have their hands full. And we, the last thing they need is a dog.
Speaker: They have no idea how full. That's right. Little do they know where they're going to be in, let's say, nine or ten months' time. um Yeah.
Speaker: We do end this episode. We're back in the girls' apartment, and I think it's really sweet. Monica asked Rachel if she would be a surrogate for her, and she says she would. And they're having kind of a tender moment between friends when Kathy bursts in and is so thankful to Monica. um It drives me nuts that Kathy's voice doesn't match her mouth. um I think it's because she kind of moving around a lot and then turning around and leaving. So it it doesn't really match up much in this scene. funny. I didn't even notice that.
Speaker: I did not even notice. I was like, yeah, how funny. it was um It's up there with when Joey comes in, this is way back near the beginning, kind going, what's he saying? Oh, mommy, oh, daddy, I am a big old baddie. And it doesn't match. It was kind of like that sort of level. That's funny. Yeah.
Speaker: um But yeah, that was it. I'm going to forget, so I've remembered right now, something I found out this week. I was listening to a podcast with ah Mel C, who's from the Spice Girls. Yeah. Sporty Spice.
Speaker: Really good interview. Guy called Louis Theroux, does a bunch of documentaries and has his own podcast. And she was explaining that in the early 90s, boy bands were huge. There was a, you know, yeah boy super successful.
Speaker: So I don't know who it would be, your music producers said, okay, a few of them got together and said, we need to form a girl band to kind of, there's a market there.
Speaker: We want to form a girl band with five or six girls and we want to use friends as an inspiration the way that all the all the six friends have different personalities they're all very different they all relate to different people but they all get along so well we want to take that formula make it into a girl band and this was mel c telling the story so it's straight from the horse's mouth and that's how the spice girls came around they wanted a girl musical version of the friends gang
Speaker: How funny. Right. I'd never seen that before, but it came straight from her. But that's where the the different, you know was it? Sporty spice and posh spice. It's all based on this. them all. I've got this. Yes, you do. Let's go. This is my era. Sporty.
Speaker: Yeah. Posh. Scary. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, what was Emma Bunton? Baby Spice. And was Jerry Hally? This is where I'm going to fall down. In my head, she's Ginger Spice, but i don't know if that's true. It Five for five. All right. good night I have not thought through those names in a long time. Man. Yeah. I don't know why, but they are always like right there at the... so I'm not sure where in your brain you store that. Yeah.
Speaker: But, you know, my brother's first concert was the Spice Girls. Really? His a really awesome older sister bought him tickets. and took him and it was the best show ever.
Speaker: but I would imagine that's a great show. Yeah. Oh man. So many, and it was on a school night, yeah but so many, um, costume changes and, oh, it was so good. it was a great show. Yeah, i mean that I'm sure they're just built for a great show. Whether care for their music or not, they've got nothing against them. I'm going to assume their concerts are just super. Yeah, it was a great concert. And then I loved their a little movie.
Speaker: I loved it. Like, yeah, that's just a good fan. I yeah i never saw the movie. out I was shocked to, I guess, relearn because I must have known this at the time. But, you know, Jerry Halliwell left. She was only in it for like two years.
Speaker: she she She left fairly quickly and they're all good friends now. they they They've gotten back together and they like ah birthday parties and things, they're all together. So it's a nice end to the story. But yeah, that was, you know my era.
Speaker: I was, I'm trying to think how old I was when they came out, I don't know, 15, something like that. So yeah, they were... They were everywhere were the Spice Girls.
Speaker: I told you off the air that i posted in the Purple Door Podcast Club Facebook group and that we were going to record this message. We had two people who just dropped a note to us. Jennifer Hopkins just shared her favorite quote, which is, I shared my pudding with you, man. I gave you my snack pack. Which again, brilliantly delivered by Sherry Smith. It's just fantastic.
Speaker: And then Kimberly Smith-Wedgeworth said, i this episode is just so funny. I mean, it's got the iconic blue blazer black line. And of course, the scene in the museum lunchroom never fails to crack me up. I can't agree more. The lunchroom is the highlight of this episode for me. Yeah, absolutely.
Speaker: Now, let's see, who would your... Gunther Central Park be this week. Ah, okay. So I went back and forth between two, but my, i have landed and feel pretty good about Phoebe.
Speaker: Phoebe. I like it. It's kind of yeah consistent through the episode. She's dealing with, it it's a tough issue to deal with. It's a very Phoebe centric episode.
Speaker: It is. And she, ah you know, she had her gut feeling and then she went and she thought through it and everything else. And then, you know, her gut's a good gut.
Speaker: It is. Good for feeding. Doing good things. This may ah cause our friendship to be a little shaky. Oh, no! Yeah, I've been dreading telling you this. but that day Yeah, that lunch the lunchroom speech. He's taking a stand. It's not too often that go for our dear friend Ross, but I am for the way he throws his jacket down shakes Joey's hand and yeah lets everyone just... He's taking a stand, a long last. So Ross, for me, how are we going to measure this week's episode?
Speaker: In blue jackets. a ae What else could it be? and What else? How many blue blazers? I mean, it could be some rotary. It could be some pieces of a rotary. But I don't want to put that on the picture that we put out with the post with the no podcast each week. not. No, blue jackets. Blue jackets.
Speaker: And I would have seven and a half. Funny you say that. Because I wanted to talk to you. So I've come in seven and a half too. Oh, interesting. I like it. This one on Rotten Tomatoes gets 8.4.
Speaker: And a lot of people are like, oh, this is one of my favorites of the season. One of the best. One of the best. Quite consistently. I liked it. I think some funny moments, but it's not up there with the top ones for me by any stretch. And not even top ones in this season. no Like in this half of the season even. I'm confused. I was curious at how you would see it. Because again, not bad.
Speaker: By any stretch, it's a good episode, but not... I was surprised to see you got 8.4 when it had a little look. Over there. Well, let's see. Next week we have... We've got a little theme going. This week, uteruses. And next week is the one with the embryos.
Speaker: oh Oh, we, yeah. Because we're moving right along on this storyline. Yeah. This story is moving along and then a very big storyline is coming our way very soon. Oh yeah, it is. Yeah.
