The One With The Fake Party

The Purple Door Podcast - A Friends Rewatch Pod

Transcript

Speaker: Well, hello and welcome to the Purple Door Podcast, a friend's rewatch pod. I am one of your hosts, Alistair, alongside Deanne. Deanne, how are you today? I'm awesome, but I do want to address that odd pause that you had in your intro. You mean the odd pause? I was going to edit it out, but no, I like fact you called me No, I'm going to ahead and... Call it out. There's a reason. What was that?

Speaker: Okay. What was that? So one, two, three hours ago, I recorded ah my other podcast, the Outdoors, the Educator podcast. And usually they don't get recorded, not even on the same day, but not anywhere near the same time. So as soon as I hit the record button, I think I had a weird muscle memory spasm and almost said the wrong podcast name.

Speaker: Oh, oh! Yeah. which Which I think in all of our episodes is almost the first time that's happened. Yeah, but I mean, you're being super flexible with me and my psycho crazy busyness right now. And so I apologize that you had to do both. No apology needed in the slightest. And usually I record the other one once a week and it usually ends up being in the morning.

Speaker: It's just the way it works out. But this time the guy is was on the West Coast and he couldn't do it until three o'clock our time. Finished about four. So that was only two hours ago. So I think I was still in that headspace.

Speaker: There you go. Okay. Yeah. But that's that is okay. i hope you're ready for some bamboozled. You know what? ah I'm ready.

Speaker: It's going to be an interesting one. Before we get started, I will forget. Today, don't know if you saw on Facebook, Friends premiered 32 years ago today.

Speaker: No kidding. Now, of course, this episode is going in in a couple of days. So yeah when the audience are listening to this, that moment will have passed. But today, 32 years old.

Speaker: So cheers to friends. Cheers friends. It's an imaginary whatever this is. That's right. A coffee A coffee mug. It has to be. But yeah, I am ready for bamboozled. um My questions got stripped down to the bare bones. I only have five.

Speaker: Whoa. I have six. look Look, you out yeah had seven. and i I knew one of them would be a duplicate. Yeah. Because of the Etch-A-Sketch. Indeed. The other one I was surprised because I thought it was kind of niche.

Speaker: Obscure. Right. i did too. Yeah. no That the scent of Joey's shampoo. Indeed. Guava. its be and And who would want guava smelling shampoo? It seems like a very interesting choice.

Speaker: It is. It's one of those things. i don't know if I could say if I if i smelt it. I don't know if I would know it was guava. Like I would pick that out. You would recognize it was a fruity smell, but not necessarily guava. And don't know if guava, I think it's a citrus fruit, but I wouldn't like bet my life on it Not 100% sure.

Speaker: Who is going first today? That would be you, sir. It is an even episode. Even, so I'm going first. All right. Now, i've ah I've read this super quickly before we went on air, and it's phrased terribly, so I might have to reshuffle this around. Oh, I have one that I was like, what was I talking about? And then I was like, oh, I do remember. that was But i have it I have a very oddly worded one as well.

Speaker: All right, well, I'm going to move some words around. What does the note say that Rachel wrote that she tried, or she did put in Joshua's pocket? Chandler rented out in Central Park. Oh, man.

Speaker: It's ah guys like you never go out of style. Ding, ding, ding. That is it. Which is interesting because isn't that a Taylor Swift song? There's a Taylor Swift song that's like that. I have nothing against Taylor Swift. She's dropping a new song on Friday and I can't wait. Well, that is very exciting. She gives lots of money to charity. So, in fact, I do have feelings on her. I think she's a good human being from all I can tell. I'm just unfamiliar with her repertoire.

Speaker: Well, there you go I enjoy her music. um good And I enjoy a good ah conspiracy theory and a mystery. and She does that, right? with Like when she's albums and music, there's hidden meanings and all that stuff. Yeah. yeah Because she had a countdown most most recently, she had a countdown on her website and it can't finish today.

Speaker: And so we've been like waiting because it's like, what are we counting down for? And I was like, obviously it'll be a new album or something. yeah Well, anyway, on Friday, she is dropping a new single and it is called Patient Zero.

Speaker: And so a friend of mine and I were trying to um figure out what we believe the vibe will be. i have no doubt whatever the vibe is, it's going to be a blockbuster hit.

Speaker: Yes, we're we are voting for a banger of a tune. I like it. all right all right let's see it's your question oh i did a great job i already won a point that's right you are one nothing up man all right what color is chandler's mug during the whole opening thing ah we're going back to the bugs i shouldn't have taken my eye off the ball i have no idea going with yellow o Oh, it's blue. blue ah that was one It's one of the colors going through my head.

Speaker: All right. We'll refocus on the mug situation. Okay. All right. My question. So I won't ask for a couple more weeks then. That's all right. If you wouldn't mind. Yeah, that'd be great.

Speaker: Let's see my question too for you. What two places is Ross going to take Emily out to? Dinner at the something.

Speaker: Yes. And it's something fancy. Yep. Dinner at the Madison. Is that right? it's now There are two fancy places. Yeah.

Speaker: And then they're going to go have drinks at the something. They're going to have drinks somewhere and dinner somewhere. All right. Yep. That's it. exist and what and And it's like at the quiet?

Speaker: no No. I mean, you're not a million miles away, but. No. I don't know, I don't know. They're going for drinks at the Four Seasons and then dinner at the Plaza.

Speaker: The Plaza. Yeah. How weird that we're going to to hotels. Seems weird. yes But whatever, I don't mean to judge. I should just listen. We we do, yes. Yes, yes. We should just listen and not judge. what kidsla Okay, so Ross, you know, Emily makes him do wild and crazy things.

Speaker: He signed up for a class. What class? Is it helicopter class? Yes. so It's just the obscurity of it being a helicopter class.

Speaker: Nice job. I'm not one who who loves flying or heights. That would be kind of cool. I mean, I think it would be slightly terrifying, but I think it'd be pretty. Oh, yeah. I think it'd be awesome.

Speaker: You ever been in a helicopter?

Speaker: Because I have not, I don't think. I don't think so. Yeah. Huh. I think I will need to rectify that because yeah, I think helicopters would be super fun.

Speaker: I do think it'd be kind of cool. Yeah. um I was going to segue by saying, speaking of things that are kind of cool and there's nothing cool about this at all. um but what yeah Joey is wearing a party hat, but what is on the hat?

Speaker: Oh wait, is it a dog I hope not, because that's not what I saw. Oh, okay. So I have to tell you the truth.

Speaker: Tell me the truth. I'm ready. The truth is, Al, yep I did not know where my glasses were, and I've already told you that my TV is a little a little fuzzy. yeah I am not going to lie to you whenever I say i could really tell what in the world was going on. don't.

Speaker: Might have taken my phone, turned on the camera and zoomed in on the TV. And I know it was a white something.

Speaker: I thought it was a dog, but I don't know. A polar bear? it is it es a a snow monster?

Speaker: i don't have any idea No, but now I feel there's a lot of pressure on me to win this if I can't beat a Wilson without her glasses. But this, but this, or the answer is a clown.

Speaker: He does have a white face. that its Oh, how weird. That is not what I saw at all, man. That's awful.

Speaker: That is awful. i um am interested in LASIK. i am am terrified. of things going in my eye. Like I have a hard time with the air puffs. I've talked about this with you about the eye drops. Yep. I have real issues. So it stresses me out. Like I can't do contacts because I can't like just too creepy. But it freaks me out to think about being awake and somebody doing anything to my eyeball and me being aware of it.

Speaker: Yep. But my eyes are getting worse the older I get. And I find that very offensive and rude. So I I I would correct that with LASIK, I think. But I say that, but I haven't. So I don't know if I really mean it, but sometimes I really do.

Speaker: Yeah, I think about it now and again, but we'll see if I'll ever actually pull the trigger on it. I've had glasses since I was like seven, so I'm used to it now.

Speaker: Oh, what's your what is my third question? you are up It is, what color is Ross's shirt? Is it... I remember, I think it's very distinctive.

Speaker: Is it kind of like a lime green? It is. Dang, Al! Yes. You are destroying me. No, it is 2-1 after three questions each. This is where the comeback begins. I'm going to be looking for three of the four correct responses here.

Speaker: Okay. In the final scene, what's on Phoebe's sandwich?

Speaker: Salami? No salami. wait. And the final scene? Yes.

Speaker: Not whenever he's building the sandwich. Right. Yep. It is in... it She makes another sandwich or something. The exact details of Escape Me, but she like she lists them off to Joey because she's telling Joey what... yeah because he's all sad. Yes.

Speaker: And if a cow drops dead, he can eat that, right? That's right. That doesn't count. Okay, so it's in my notes. Look at us. But look at me not looking. Honorable as always. I will say, nothing ah there's nothing weird. Three types of meat and a condiment.

Speaker: Okay. on. He's thinking hard. I can see Wilson's. I am. bocu I am. Okay. So is it ham, turkey, bacon, and pickles?

Speaker: It's, it's, you got one of them. Mayonnaise, mayonnaise mustard. Mustard. What is happening? Yes. All right.

Speaker: I think I have to cut you off at two out of four. Pastrami, salami. Pastrami, you got three out four now. Dang it. Okay. only one The only one you were missing is probably the most niche one, at corned beef.

Speaker: Oh, I remember that. Pastrami, corned beef, smoked turkey. yeah Not had that since I was a kid. Yeah, the old corned beef. All right, my fourth my fourth question. Okay, what movie was the bra trick actually from?

Speaker: All right, now you don't have to tell me the answer here because I'm down to two. ah He says two. and is is Joey says one and Chandler says what it is.

Speaker: And is one of those movies also one of the answers when when they play, um you know, they bet for the apartment and it was like, what's Rachel's favorite movie?

Speaker: And then what's her actual favorite movie? No, those are different. Okay. No. So then I might be completely, because I thought maybe, hold on.

Speaker: Is it Footloose? That's what Joey says. That's what Joey says. okay Um,

Speaker: I'm just going have to guess Grease. Ooh, good guess, but no, it's Flashdance. Flashdance. And she's a plumber? No, she is not a plumber.

Speaker: She is a welder. A welder. okay All right, here's your final question. Let's see. All right, we don't actually hear this the answer in this episode, but there is a big clue.

Speaker: What is the name of Rachel's High School?

Speaker: They're the tigers. I wouldn't have remembered that. o It starts with an l It does. Okay, so I do feel a little bad about this question.

Speaker: the the ad I had just remembered they mentioned it in the very first episode. it's it's um Lincoln High! Lincoln High, there you go. you That felt unfair. Another Lincoln High survivor. That is exactly it.

Speaker: All right. It is two each, and this is my final question. Oh, no. Okay, do I ask the oddly of arranged one or do I ask the one that i feel like you're probably going to get?

Speaker: Ben, sounds like it's got to be the oddly arranged. Well, i can't. I can't because it's not in the right order. yeah.

Speaker: all right why did the spin the bottle game stop

Speaker: oh hold on a second oh because the baby kicked there yes there we go all right that all right it was over okay but All right. Good job, Al.

Speaker: thank Thank you. Thank you. What was the other one? I'm ready. What sounds like a fancy butt?

Speaker: B-U-T. Not B-U-T-T. I had a fancy butt. B-U-T. However. It is however. would have won either way. There we go. Beautiful. That is excellent. Good job, Al.

Speaker: Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. We get we got there. I don't look at what the total is because I don't want to know till the end, but I know I hadn't won in a few weeks. So that that felt good, getting won under the belt.

Speaker: Good job. Thank you. Thank you. right, let's see. Where are we starting today? We are in the girl's apartment. Phoebe, Pearl Phoebe, can't find anything she wants to eat. I think we need to ask you right off the bat any weird pregnancy cravings.

Speaker: Oh, yeah. Yeah. Okay. So with bread, everything i wanted, spicy Cheetos and with chocolate milk.

Speaker: That's an odd, odd combination. ah So odd. But like, I wanted that. And then until I got sick, I really liked Wendy's um ah the Junior Bacon Cheeseburgers. Yep.

Speaker: With extra ketchup and extra pickles. And then I got sick, so then I still can't ever eat it ever again for the rest of my life. Yep.

Speaker: Gone. Yeah. Yeah. Gone. um And then with George, I wanted Mexican rice. That was it. Mexican rice. That's a pretty solid staple.

Speaker: Yeah, by ra from Raphael's. You remember Raphael's? I remember. Rest in peace, Raphael's, our old neighborhood restaurant. Rest in peace, RIP, buddy. Yeah. But yeah, that was, yep.

Speaker: And oh, man, and there specifically, because they had little pieces of cut up carrot in there. Just hit the spot. Don't know. But it was like, I'd feel like, Joseph, can you go get me?

Speaker: Can you go get me? I just need a bowl of rice. And it was delicious. good Good old Joseph. Good old Joseph. I could not smell meat. If I smelled meat, I would be sick.

Speaker: So Phoebe's going through the opposite. it's Absolutely. All she can think about, all she wants is some some pia some piece of cooked flesh. Cheeseburger, a sandwich, something. And really she smells something in the bathroom. And sure enough, Joey is in the in the shower with the sandwich.

Speaker: that And a pickle. And a pickle, not to forget. And his guava smelling shampoo that we discussed earlier. Of all the foods now, the really food in the bathroom, not really any situation where that's okay, but a sandwich in the shower seems particularly hazardous.

Speaker: I feel like that is less disturbing than where else you would be eating food. Well, this is true.

Speaker: This is true. I'm just saying. You ever brush your teeth in the shower? You know, i I have when camping. Right. at home. And I'm not against it. Not at home. Who does that?

Speaker: My brother. it weird? Yes. But yeah, I don't know. It's one of those things. It's weird in the sense that I've never done it, but it's not logical that it's weird.

Speaker: I know people do it like you're in there anyway. anyway Yeah. Right. and And his logic is it saves water. It saves the water. Yeah. yeah we comes yeah way And I'm like, but you stay in the shower too long because you're doing too many things.

Speaker: So I don't. Yeah, just, ah you know, it's brush teeth in the shower. Yes or no. Place your votes. That's right. Get in touch. Let us know. Where do you brush your teeth?

Speaker: Yes. Is it weird? okay we're over. it Oh, sorry. Go ahead. No, you're good. All right. Well, we are in Central Park. Rachel is right. She's concocting this note to be in Joshua's pocket. And ah Chandler gets a hold of it and has little read. We went through that and bamboozled. And he's not impressed.

Speaker: No, he's not. Which makes me laugh because really, he oh what'd you throw away? Right. Right. Yes, but then let's just take a moment and discuss Victorian doorknobs at the museum. Yeah, I was going to bring this up.

Speaker: Who does that? Well, here's the deal. No, I don't. I've never been. I don't feel like this is a no, I don't situation. i mean, to be honest, I've never had the opportunity. Nobody has invited me to the Victorian doorknob museum.

Speaker: But I did, now this this is not Victorian doorknobs, but I interviewed a guy, second time I'm mentioning my other podcast, about a couple months ago, who specializes in visiting and discovering weird museums around the world.

Speaker: And like, I have been to the the National Mustard Museum in Wisconsin, and I do like kind of quirky things like that. Victorian doorknobs is perhaps pushing it.

Speaker: um yeah yeah like did you know in the colony which colony is a town very close to us i think you were raised in the colony were you not i was raised in the colony are you about to talk about the toilet seat museum local lore yeah see that's on the map that on this guy interviewed on his world map which is hundreds that was the closest one to where that's hysterical yeah that's hysterical Okay, which again times for a minute it is wild to me that the colony would be somewhere

Speaker: that people from around the world would have any. Like it's crazy to me whenever I hear in the colony on the radio, whenever they're talking about Grandscapes or something. That is so crazy to me because there was nothing there.

Speaker: Nothing. And I am not 100 years old. I'm not. You most certainly are not. and my parents were bought one of the very first houses there.

Speaker: I mean, i i i don't know. Like, if you want to talk about some things, it had a little bit of a seedy past. But, like, it's just weird. It's wild to that it's anything other than a teeny tiny dot that you can't even see.

Speaker: It's so weird. I feel that way whenever I go down 380 now. 380 is the highway that we both used to. Right off at one point. And there was nothing. Nothing, nothing, nothing. Nothing. Now it has exploded with all kinds of stuff. and They don't have the Cooper Hewitt Museum, though. The Cooper hugh Hewitt Museum is a real museum. On the Upper East Side.

Speaker: um It does seem like the kind of place that could have hosted a Victorian doorknob collection temporarily. Okay. Yeah, Ross is just all jazzed with Emily. He is feeling good about himself. It's in my notes he signed up for helicopter classes. Because Emily just makes him fun. Everything fun. i mean, he's not going do them because she leaves. He's going to leave. But um he likes who he is when Emily is around.

Speaker: um Phoebe comes in and is frustrated by all this meat craving that the baby's got going on. i think she tried a soy burger, but that didn't. is Soy burgers suck. I've tried those things once or twice and it's like in my head and somebody out there can probably tell me I'm wrong I don't think they're any better for you because they're full of chemicals you know you know yeah so it's like are just trading one thing for another you know I don't know yeah just it just yeah didn't didn't feel like a healthy thing I was eating

Speaker: Yeah, no, I don't know that something with the word burger is going to be healthy. But I will tell you I do prefer a turkey burger to a regular cow burger. As do I. Even turkey breakfast sausages. i I'm on board. Things like that. Yeah, yeah turkey and chicken, definitely over red meat. um We pop over to Bloomingdale's Joshua. He's picking up his coat. um let's see he is wearing a sweater that he bought from her oh no he's yes he wore a sweater that he brought from rachel on a date last night and so rachel then panics and is trying to get this note slash paper thin security alarm whatever she says out of the pocket

Speaker: um But he's just, Joshua's not ready for dating. He is, he's he's not looking for Miss Wright at this moment in time. So yeah, Rachel definitely in a bit of a panic there.

Speaker: um Now we kind of get into into the meat of this episode, right? We end up in the girls' apartment and Rachel has had a brilliant idea. She comes in and they are going to throw a party for Emily, but in reality it's actually for Joshua um so she can see him in a more casual, non-businessy sense, I suppose.

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. it yeah Doesn't seem like a great idea from the beginning. Well, no, but I mean, at the same time, ah it's kind of cool.

Speaker: I don't know. It made me laugh a lot. Right. um You know, and then what good, I say what good friends, what good friends that they went on with it.

Speaker: And there is this I'm talking of everybody except Ross and Rachel. Yes. Everybody except them. Because Rachel does that on and puts Ross in that situation where he can't say no. Right.

Speaker: But is so, like, both of them kind of suck. But how awesome is everybody else? That they're like, yeah, let's go for it. And yeah, we're going to have this party for Emily. And knowing that it's really for Rachel. And yeah here we go.

Speaker: they They just go for it. I love the fact that you know got Gunther, gun that was it. I love that they just ran downstairs and to legitimize the party, they go and grab Gunther from the coffee shop.

Speaker: Right, ah Gunther and Joshua. And it's like, okay, this is so weird. it So weird. Yeah, it is indeed. um We're at the party now. We kind of skip forward a few hours. Rachel is playing hard to get, and then she attempts to tie a knot with a cherry with her tongue and basically starts choking.

Speaker: This does go to plan. No. um Ross says that he and Emily, they've got to leave. They've got the got drinks and dinner plans. He's trying to get out of there, but Phoebe, poor old Phoebe, is just salivating over Joey's sandwich. um She cannot shake these meat cravings at all. ah Looking through my notes here, if Rachel changes her dress.

Speaker: um Ross and Emily say they're going to leave and Joshua sees this as an opportunity, I think, to get out of this kind of lame party. And then Rachel's like, oh, what will fix the party and make it less awkward? A bunch of 25-year-old plus people all playing spin the bottle.

Speaker: And yeah. Yeah. And that's whenever they do the footloose splash dance. She's a plumber, no welder. And yeah, with the taking your bra off through whatever. It's so crazy. But she's so desperate.

Speaker: like and i guess it's fueled by this this jealousy of ross and emily that's really what it's i mean josh joshua seems like a nice guy but i just don't see her being that crazy um he hasn't we haven't seen anything that has f led her to be that just nuts about this guy Yeah. Like she's, she's ridiculous.

Speaker: Yeah. Ridiculous. The whole thing. Joey gets to kiss Emily twice. And then Ross, Ross is getting irritated. Yeah, he is. Yeah.

Speaker: And then Rachel gets Joshua. This is going to be their moment. But as you said, at that moment, the baby then kicks Rachel crawling over and kissing Joshua's leg.

Speaker: It's awkward. bad. Okay. Whenever she's like crawling over to kiss him, it's like so painfully awkward. And then the baby is a kicks And then she, like, yeah, crawls over and kisses his leg and it's just like, what is happening right now? Because this is painfully awkward. It is, i mean, just... Painfully awkward. Takes a lot for me to not want to watch a scene.

Speaker: This is one of them where I almost find myself looking away. it's a Very cringy is this one. Um... We're still in the girls' apartment. Chandler is now eating ah meets a sandwich with meat in it. And Phoebe, I think, just grabs it and takes a chunk off the end, if I recall correctly. doesn't even grab it.

Speaker: She just, like, leans over and takes a bite. And he's like, and this is the funniest line to me. He's like, there's a Phoebe on my sandwich. Yeah, that's right. Like, what? What?

Speaker: But that line cracked me up so bad. and And maybe if I was tired, I don't know. But just the delivery of that was hysterical. No, it's very funny. And one of my favorite lines, which I guess isn't that funny either, but I found great was immediately afterwards when Joey's basically like, if you're going to do it wrong, do it right with these two frozen steaks.

Speaker: yeah the freezer although it kind of bugs me a tiny bit because the magic of television they're still at the same party and somehow those steaks have defrosted been pan seared cooked to perfection and phoebe's now eating them yeah you know it flashed forward um you know i didn't ask you have you ever been or gone like vegetarian no no no no not really no My brother, he was he went vegetarian and then he didn't like that. So he went pescatarian and he only ate shrimp and get fish.

Speaker: And then he kind of got over that. he went through it. And went back to eating normal. Yeah. Yeah. So i don't know. Have you?

Speaker: I literally did it for 30 days just to see if I could do it. Like if it would be. Yeah. Yeah. And like I didn't gain or lose any weight. I think I kind of offset because probably it's a little healthier, like my meals.

Speaker: but then would snack and stuff a bit more afterwards, I found. So it really didn't. Yeah, I weighed almost exactly the same. Now, one of my sisters is, I think she eats chicken now and again now, but has been a vegetarian for years and years. My mum's been a vegetarian.

Speaker: My whole life, almost my whole life, I think, I mean, certainly the vast, you know, the majority of hers, she has been vegetarian. Yes. And it's funny because my dad eats meat, she'll cook meat, she'll buy it, cook it. Well, she's just not going to eat it. no good to eat it won't do it um but we let's see so i've lost place in my notes um so phoebe has guilt right and then this is where joey says he'll go vegetarian for phoebe kind of offset the meat consumption what a good friend so sweet yeah

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. Considering how much he loves his sandwiches and I'm going to guess his pizzas have pepperoni on them and stuff. Like that's a big deal for Joey.

Speaker: um We go into Rachel's old bedroom. I can't remember if that's Chandler or Joey's now. Do you know? I don't have no idea. Yeah, I'm not sure if we actually know or not. But um I just liked a small detail on the shelf in the background. There was a bunch of Mr. Potato Heads.

Speaker: Oh. so I didn't even notice that. yeah I was not zoomed in on my phone. you That's right. You weren't using your phone as a mediating device between your eyeballs and the television. Right.

Speaker: Yeah, it's a... Yeah, i who knows why, but I just like those all these different Mr. Potato Heads going on there. Rachel comes in. She is dressed as a high school cheerleader. She pulled out the length and high Lincoln High outfit and tries to do an all-American cheer for Emily. ah Cartwheels and I guess smashes her mouth off the floor.

Speaker: in yeah in her bedroom. It's just going from bad to worse for Rachel. It is. It's so awful. It's so awful. It's just like, girl, stop. Everything she tries makes it worse. Joshua's like, I've really got to leave now. like I've got to go. Rachel loses her cool with herself, tells Joshua everything. She had this plan to seduce him.

Speaker: Joshua then reveals that he doesn't wear suits to work but bought six which Rachel takes as an insult until she realizes it's because he really likes her too he's just not ready to date yet but he's got to feel good you know even after all that he's still telling her that he's interested well and Mike here I am I guess Because then I'm like, why tell her that?

Speaker: Like, what was the purpose right to make her feel better? Does that make her feel better? I don't know. like Yeah. I know. Yeah, it it makes things a little...

Speaker: Awkward. I don't know. Yeah, I really like you, but I'm not in a place to date. I don't know. Yeah. um We end up in the hallway. Ross is drinking a beer. It's a harp beer, which is kind I didn't know you know you got them over here.

Speaker: um Definitely get them in the UK. You can get harp. Huh. Again, it's kind of... And it's an unusual beer there yeah on this side. Rachel comes out and apologizes to Ross for basically ruining her all his whole evening.

Speaker: um Ross is really sad about Emily leaving. Keeps saying it was just a two-week thing. We know it's two weeks. But then Rachel reveals that Emily's inside looking through Monica's old family photo albums and asking stories. And you don't do that if you're just in it for two weeks.

Speaker: With all the albino kids. Yes. wasn't chess camp. Computer camp. Computer camp. It's so good. It was you with all those albino kids. it's so good

Speaker: These poor kids at camp. um Let's see. Ross goes in. Chandler comes out. I swear there's a funny line there, but, ah you know, it's a roof about the loser. You're a pathetic That's it. That's it. Oh, hey, yeah.

Speaker: Yeah. these They end up sitting out there together, and Joshua comes back, and he tells Rachel, look, he's not ready. But they end up kissing. I do quite like the way Chandler makes this awkward, like by just kind of leaning back and grinning at them for their first kiss.

Speaker: Yeah, it's so weird. It's such a weird thing, but I don't know. I found it funny probably just because it's Chandler. um They go inside to get coffee and we all know why Joshua came back or at least Rachel thinks she does.

Speaker: And that is her cheerleader outfit because it never fails. Never fails. Every time. Every time. That's it. Yeah. And we end up final scene, we're in the girls' apartment, Phoebe is making a sandwich, poor old Joey.

Speaker: he's he's He's drooling over there. But yeah, pastrami, corned beef, smoked turkey and mustard. I'm not mustard fan, got to tell you. I may have gone to the mustard museum, which was interesting, but mustard is not a condiment of choice in in my little world.

Speaker: I feel like that was a really, really quick episode now that we've kind of talked through it. It was. Why? You know, maybe because it was a, well, our good friend Steve would call a semi-bottle episode where like 80% of it is really just one long scene. Yeah.

Speaker: And it was, yeah. And it wasn't really, i don't know. Maybe I'm over the whole Joshua and Rachel thing. Yeah. Well, let's talk about that. um Let's do this one. How can we rate this episode?

Speaker: um I would say in pom-poms. but I like it. Big red Lincoln high pom-poms. They never fail. They never fail.

Speaker: How many red pom-poms are you giving this episode? I am giving it a solid seven. I like that answer. It's an odd number, but um yeah. I mean, because it's a funny episode, there's some really good lines and everything. um but my I don't like that

Speaker: ah Ross and Emily's whole night is ruined because Rachel wants to make her fool of herself for this man and um I like that everybody went along with it and that Gunther was there good old go yeah I don't you know like as far as stories go it's not my favorite yeah so i mean it's just simple and and there you go You've pretty much summed up my thoughts. I've also written down a seven. I don't hate it. I find it pretty cringy, the whole storyline with Rachel. A whole lot.

Speaker: Maybe that's what it is. Like, I'm sorry, but like, let's let's be for real for just a minute. Like, every human that is listening, um that is breathing, has made a fool of themselves.

Speaker: Yes. You know? like God, I'm so thankful for Joseph. And I do not miss like the awkward and all of that. Like I don't miss it at all. But like, God, how easily you could just make a fool out of yourself and like make it logical.

Speaker: Like, right obviously, we're going to write this ridiculous note and put it in his pocket. And then, of course, it's like it just oh, God. And then I want to be close to him. And then so obviously.

Speaker: We've got to make up a party like. Do you know? And it's just, and it's like, God, it is you know, it's not going to end great. You know that something terrible is going, not terrible, but like so cringeworthy. And I think that's why it's so cringeworthy is because you understand it.

Speaker: Right. Maybe that's it. You can relate to it. God. Like, oh. And and it it just makes you feel, well. So, yeah, I just, awkward is is my jam. Yeah. And it's painful to to watch her, you know? yeah Yeah, it's it definitely was. I found myself just kind ugh.

Speaker: Yeah, this isn't the Rachel we've come to know and love. um Who would be your Gunther Central Park of the week? Chandler. all right Because he had the most entertaining zingers for me this week.

Speaker: and And he's so funny. The end. Phoebe on his sandwich. Yeah, there's a Phoebe on my sandwich. And then whenever she's like, you're a pathetic loser, right? Oh, oh oh yeah. yeah oh You know, like, just, oh, yeah. Like, yep.

Speaker: and it just he's so funny he is he was going to be actually mine as well but i decided just because he was such a good friend i'm gonna give it to joey for willing to give up meat for the next six months whatever it just i mean since beer doesn't have meat in it That's right.

Speaker: That's right. And I think the he, you know, he just loves me. He doesn't go a day without chowing down on some, some, some animal, something. And he's, you know, I'll just not do it. I'll just not do it for Phoebe.

Speaker: And I think that says a lot about guy, Joey. Yeah, I like it. That's excellent. All right, well, let's see. We are hurtling towards the end of season four, which seems wild and crazy.

Speaker: Which is Right? That's crazy. Yeah. It is. Yeah, that's kind of nuts, actually. Next week is the one with the free porn. Again, I remember what the story is, but not all the subtext. can't turn it off.

Speaker: That's right. I remember that. my One of my just favorite lines of this bit is about the the bubble that he talks about, the protective bubble. ah Yeah. It's going to be fun. I'm looking forward to that one. Any final thoughts before we wrap up this? It's not been a short, you know, on the short side episode.

Speaker: Yeah. um No, just long live the cringe and not have to deal with it. Indeed, long live the cringe.

Speaker: And aren't we thankful we no longer have to deal with such things? yeah Yes. Yes, indeed. All right, everyone. Well, next week, the one with the free porn. But as always, thank you for to everybody for listening to the Purple Door podcast.
