Speaker: Just peachy. Just peachy. And nothing more. And nothing more peachy is good enough for a Wednesday evening, I think. Okay, how are you doing, Al? I am doing well. been a busy couple days, but good stuff.
Speaker: I was going to say what's new and exciting. Well, some news some new and exciting stuff. If any of you listeners out there enjoy the Frasier podcast called We're Listening, I will be guest hosting this weekend. and I'm just going to tease it with a very, very special guest. So if you enjoy Frasier at all, look up We're Listening and it would be fantastic to have a little crossover there.
Speaker: Very special guest coming. Yes, that is exciting. very excited. It is. I'm looking forward to We're recording it tomorrow. should be a Sunday.
Speaker: And, yeah, a bit a big week on that front. But, yeah, just all in all, doing very well. Having a good week this week. ah Let's see. This week we are talking about... Time. Oh, time out. What did forget? Time. Time. Time.
Speaker: All right. You have some very exciting personal news. I do. Because of my little bitty bestie. Yes. So on Saturday, I drove up to Kansas and on Sunday, I came back with a a car full of stuff and was followed the next day by my daughter, son-in-law and little bit of Linny, my grandbaby is back in Texas.
Speaker: And we got to spend a good few hours together yesterday and we will again tomorrow. And she is just a delight. She is back and it's so exciting.
Speaker: Yes, that's so nice. I love that. It is. yeah It's just, and she just doesn't miss a beat. She hadn't seen her lolly in a month, how about a month.
Speaker: Yeah, just about. Yeah, and saw her after she woke up from a nap when none of us are at our best as we are waking up. But she saw her lolly and went straight for her. She had missed her lolly.
Speaker: Yeah, she did. And you know Lolly missed her. Oh, Lolly missed her. Linny is somebody who who smiles and is friendly from a distance until she gets to know you. But she was all about her Lolly with with bella belly laughing within seconds of seeing her Lolly. Yes. So it's been a a very good week, actually, in the greenhouse.
Speaker: I love it. Yes, we will need to get Linny and Auntie Dee together very soon. Yes. Yes. Yes, sweet little girl. role Yes, she would like that. yes She is just toddling everywhere. She is getting big, getting big. Yeah, just the best.
Speaker: Well, let's see. This week is the one with Rachel's new dress. Again, often. She's so fashionable. She is. she's a I was about to say a line that was going to give away one of my bamboozled questions, so I'll need to be careful. Yes. catch yourself. Love that was a close one. That was a close one. But, yeah, I was i was pleasantly surprised with this episode.
Speaker: I must say. Yes. Yes. Yes. As was I. was And there, a well, anyway, whenever we get into it, there was one part of it that I knew, i knew.
Speaker: Like, and it's one of those scenes where got, and it just, it makes you so embarrassed. ah Because, you know, you just feel it. Yeah. And, um but i had forgotten, like,
Speaker: 80% of this episode except for that scene. Right. it I think because it just elicits such... no Like, such cringeworthy cringes. 100%. We feel for Rachel in this episode. It just...
Speaker: A lot of this doesn't go well for her, but we'll get into it, of course, after Bamboozled. The questions have... They are hot off the press. They have just been vetted and checked by Kate.
Speaker: And you need to tell me who's going first this week. That would be you, Al. All right. right. Are What did you realize? Okay. Well, no, nothing. I keep thinking of like different things I want to talk to you about because it's been a bit a minute. It has. Since we've recorded. Yes. And we chit chat about this and that and the other.
Speaker: and And there's two different things that popped in my brain in the last 45 seconds that I was like, oh, I forgot to tell Elle about that. Yeah. Oh, yeah, we need to talk about that. So, sorry. Yeah,
Speaker: yeah i am I don't know. All right, but yes, bamboozled. Let's talk about it. But then either on the air or off, we will talk about these two things.
Speaker: If we can remember the end. yeah We'll see what happens. Yeah, who knows? Who knows? It's a party. Yeah. Oh, both pop back in. Hang on, I am going to tell you one of them. Just real quick. Go for it. Okay? All right. So, you know, it's my season right now. Right. Right in my car a whole lot because of my seasonal job.
Speaker: Right? And um I am listening to this, like, murder mystery wild book. And it is um about podcasters.
Speaker: Okay. Right. Yeah, but things got kind of twisted here at the end. Like, it's almost done and over. And I'm like, i and but I really, really like it.
Speaker: And and i was just like, man, like, it's cool. I don't know. But anyway, their podcast is called, I don't remember what it's called, but something about surviving. Oh, and so they're like little tagline is if it doesn't kill you, you're a survivor. And it's only about them talking about ah like scenarios. Like you wake up and you're in a basement and there's a scary doll in the corner And whatever, you know, how do you get out? How do you survive? Right. Right. And so then they talk through it. It's just silly. And then people like send in their stories about how they survived like different things. And then they talk about it. And, you know, but I thought that was such a cool idea for a podcast.
Speaker: I like it. and I was thinking about that. Yeah. Oh, no. This is I'm sorry. It's such a hard left turn. But anyway, I just wanted to share that because I'm really close to the end and then it's gonna be done and then the book will be out of my brain.
Speaker: Well, I have written down that tagline. Yeah. I'm going to look for it. I'm always looking for something new to listen to. Right. very if They said, yeah, but it was, you know, if um you know what they always say, whatever doesn't kill you.
Speaker: makes you a survivor that's so funny to me i am gonna this podcast are well but i don't even know if it's a really a podcast right because it's a book it's a book called the story could save your life but it i don't know So anyway, whatever.
Speaker: We'll find out. So maybe that's what we're going to do whenever Friends is done. That's right. We'll start something new like that. yes Yeah. Yeah. I am all for it.
Speaker: Okay. Sorry. Anyway, bamboozled. And you're going first. Bamboozled. My question for you. Let's see. Ross's apartment door is a very distinctive color. What is it?
Speaker: We see when he lets, like, Carol in and all of that. Carol and Susan, and when they come in, is it green? It is very bright green. You are on the board.
Speaker: not Nice. Nicely done. thought that was going to be tricky. My first question is color question as well. oh What color is Chandler's hat in the opening scene?
Speaker: That's a great question. Because we don't see him wear a hat too often. No. But I always notice. That was one of the things about Joseph that I thought he was just so cute in his little hat. His little hat? Yeah. I don't know. I just, i don't know. but Chandler, it it changes his whole look, you know. I can't even remember. Oh, we won't derail this too much, but happy birthday to Joseph Willison.
Speaker: I know! My sweet Joseph! Joey doesn't share food. I saw your comment. While he was eating, it had to be done. There you go. I love it. I couldn't tell you that Chandler was even wearing a hat, so I'm just going to have to go with blue.
Speaker: but And you would be right! No way! I couldn't even tell you. wearing a blue one and it's backwards. Yeah. Wow, maybe again, that was locked in somewhere.
Speaker: right, let's see. My second question for you, this is the one that was a bit like one that kicked ah to took off the list. So what what does Susan initially want to do when she goes to London? There's one thing she says she wants to do.
Speaker: Go to a show. Go to a show. You are two for two. yes All right. What specifically is Joshua afraid of?
Speaker: Of Barnyard Burns. Isn't that weird? What a bizarre... that He plays it well. like you you He looks like he is genuinely terrified. Oh, for sure. Yes. And the thing is like I get it, but that's weird. I'm terrified of geese, but I got bit by one. i got chased by one and bit by one as a kid.
Speaker: And ah geese are scary. I think they're a lot more powerful than we think they are. Oh, yeah. yeah Oh, yeah. They ah broke my skin on my back.
Speaker: Yikes. And geese just... I'd probably have a bit of a bit PTSD from that too. Yeah. thing That goose's name was Mayberry. Wow. Mayberry.
Speaker: Mayberry. Well, we don't like Mayberry too much. No. Well, Mayberry's long gone to the barnyard in the sky. the Barnyard in the sky.
Speaker: let's see. My question three for you. How much money did Joshua's parents leave him for groceries? $500 in the 90s.
Speaker: so the ninety s How long were these people supposed to be gone? Even in New York, you know prices being higher. That's a lot of money for leaving. your Your son, who is clearly wealthy, by the way, he's investing in nightclubs and all of that. Yes. Yes.
Speaker: Crazy. Whatever he was having redone in his apartment, like he is not short of cash, is Joshua. <unk> Joshua. Joshua. All right. You are three for three. You're on a roll. Let's see if I can keep up.
Speaker: All right. Where were Joshua's parents on vacation? They went to Italy and they went to France. That's right. Yes. Very good. Well, hold, please. Where were they and where did they not go?
Speaker: Okay, they were in France first and then say, oh, you didn't get to Italy. That's right. No, sucks. So France didn't get to Italy. Yes. All right. Let's see. Can you go four for four?
Speaker: Speaking of pretty much the same scene, when talking to Joshua's parents, where does Rachel say people are wearing the dress? Yes. Milan. Well done. Which they would have known had they gone. That's right. If they had bothered to go to Italy. Yes. Right.
Speaker: Okay. How long has Phoebe been playing the drum? Does she say like a half hour? Kind of.
Speaker: Like half an hour. Like, oh, what does she say? can picture the scene. It's so close, i like I can't say no. But like an hour. Like an hour. I got could get half a point, I think. Because I got the like a bit.
Speaker: You got the like, for sure. And half hour, hour, it's like the same. So close it's close. It's close. I'm good with it. what's an it You're feeling it. We're a generous spirit here. this evening You got it. Yes.
Speaker: We're going to see if you can go five for five. Oh my gosh. Okay. All right. All right. You're either going know it Or you're going to know or you don't, which I suppose one of those things. orange What year did Carol leave Ross? 1995.
Speaker: You're so close. Dang it! You're so close. 94. 94, you get the point. You put good karma out here in the universe by giving you that one. And you, 1994. Okay, but then there's this one and it might be completely unfair.
Speaker: That's fine. All right. Who's someone famous named Chandler? Raymond Chandler. Wow. Raymond Chandler.
Speaker: Hi, Ted. Look at ten x and i And I know you don't have any extras. I don't. So we we just tied this one up.
Speaker: Oh, man. Yeah, we're awesome. Look at us go. Look go. I do have one. I have one bamboozled one for you, but I'm going to tell you now, I couldn't quite see the answer and had to Google it. so Oh, is it what's on the on edge of the That's why I didn't ask you because I could not read it No, it says no something. That's all I saw. Does it say ma'am?
Speaker: No, I thought maybe it would say P-O-R-N from last week or the week before. No, because they don't have it anymore. Apparently it says no work or work with it scored out, which doesn't really make sense. So I didn't really feel good about that question. wonder if that happened like during a writer's strike or a strike or something. Something, something was going on but because it just, it didn't seem to tie into yeah anything. It's not like Joey or Chandler or somebody had like quit or lost a job or something.
Speaker: Yeah. So, well, look at us go. That one is all tied up. Five, and that doesn't happen too often. Look at us go. um I love it. Well, let's start this episode. We start in Central Park. Phoebe comes in with a snare drum because she's too big to play her guitar now. I don't know if that's really a thing if you're heavily pregnant and you play the guitar.
Speaker: Like how you might have to adjust. I don't know. i don't play the guitar. um I have no idea. But I thought it was because and Whenever he goes, it is true what they say. Pregnant bellies look like a drum. I have never heard that.
Speaker: Nope. Was that just him being stupid? I think so, because... Oh, okay. Yeah, you could you could make an argument that pregnant belly might look like lots of things. I don't know, a watermelon? basketball. A basketball. A basketball, right. Yeah, but not a drum. not that it It didn't quite lend for me. I thought that was an odd odd joke, that one. Okay, I did too. Yeah. Not that Chandler's never odd, but what?
Speaker: What? Yeah, it was a strange, strange Joker's opening scene. um Alice comes in. I'm still, it's driving me nuts now trying to figure out where in the world Frank and Alice live. um So like I said, they were hours away and yet she just pops by. um She's got another favour to ask and she wants Phoebe to name one of the children. But I do, I don't fully understand how the whole Junior Junior, Second, Third, all of that works.
Speaker: I don't know. it's it's Oh. you know if if what If you'd name one of your sons Joseph, would he be Joseph Jr. or Joseph II? Yes. he would Okay, it could be either way.
Speaker: Could be either way. It would be Jr., but then people that like You're not a second until there's a third.
Speaker: But it like that's, you know, like George, George, Jr. Right. George, the third, George, the fourth, like George, Jr. wouldn't be George, the second until there was a third gocha i bet we we must have a listener out there who is a junior or second or second. have a brother who is a junior.
Speaker: right i have a grandfather that was a junior. And then he had a son named Marvin who they said was Marvin Junior because my grandfather's father died.
Speaker: But it's not correct. Right. Marvin I was my great grandfather. And then Marvin Jr. was my grandfather. then it would be Marvin III. But they said that he was Marvin Jr. because the original Marvin Sr. died.
Speaker: And I was like, but but that's not right. No, I don't think you want to all be alive. but Yeah, yeah. Yeah, no, that's not how that works. No. But... Whenever you write down names of people, you can name your kid whatever you want, turns out. so as we do As we'll find out in about five seasons, Princess Consuela Banana the Hammock, should you choose so?
Speaker: Well, yeah yeah. But that's 100% the truth. You can name your kid whatever you want. bugs There was somebody I wish I could remember right now that was telling me, but their wife worked in, um it was a labor and delivery nurse. And there was Lawasha. And I think like,
Speaker: i don't know but You can name your babies whatever you want. You can change your name. I will tell you off air my favorite one because it's ah it not a former student, but it's a former student of a former colleague.
Speaker: But I'll tell you my favorite name ever off the air for a student. It's a good one. It's a good one. Okay. okay So, yeah, what a nice thing. What a nice thing for Frank and Alice to offer to off Phoebe. A lot pressure, but but Phoebe's all for it.
Speaker: So nice. Yeah. So nice nice. Nice gift. And I like that she just would name him Cougar. Yeah. Just right there. And then what we also know about that baby.
Speaker: Is that it is actually... Yes. Yes. Okay. Not to spoil, but that's so funny. All right. Are you ready, Al? I'm ready. I'm going ask you a question. I'm going count to three, and you're going to answer it.
Speaker: I'm ready. All right. Are you ready? Yes. All right. You, oh yourself, name the third baby.
Speaker: One, two, three. Go. Well, the end. The end. He's going to be... Yeah! All right!
Speaker: D Buffet. So now I got to just laugh for a little while. That was fun. Okay. There you go. You will live in the lore of if we got to name it. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: That's fantastic. I like this storyline um quite a bit. I like the way it plays out. I do too. I do too. We go into Ross's apartment. Emily is getting ready to leave. She's just jet-setting back and forth every week, I think, at this point.
Speaker: um From London to New York. Why is she so rich? Yeah, yeah i don what would do we ever know what she does, did for a living? um I mean, her where where she lives is a pretty swanky looking part of London as well. then We know her parents are very wealthy, her dad and stepmum.
Speaker: Yeah. Plenty of cash going around in the Waltham household. She's about to leave and she had Ross start kissing and then Carol, Susan and Ben show up at the door. I do like Ross's line of, oh, believe you me, when he's older, he'll understand or something.
Speaker: I didn't think that was funny. Susan is off to London. for work i think she shoots commercials or something yes yes um and she and emily in the matter of 30 seconds are going to be they're going to be hanging out they're going to go see ah see a show whatever it is and which i i mean i guess kate and i've done we've gone to see a show in london kind of because it was there but if you live in manhattan going all the way to london you want to see a show you know You already live in Manhattan. Maybe, yeah but she might really like people with accents.
Speaker: That might be it. I mean, so fair she might really, really like the theater, so she wants to go to the theater over there, too. Yeah. like i can I can appreciate it. Don't be a hater. You know what? I'm going to stand corrected, because Kate and I have seen yeah Wicked in one, two, three, four four different places.
Speaker: So there you go. And if it came we had the opportunity to see in a fifth, I believe we would. so Man, do you know what's coming to Dallas this summer? i do not. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Speaker: I wonder who will be there. ah yeah So, yeah. Because, you know, I saw it on Broadway and I loved it. And then two years ago they opened in um San Francisco. And I was like, i want to take a trip and go see that. But I haven't. But if it's here in Dallas, like.
Speaker: Yeah. You will be all over it. Yeah, I will. And it better be as awesome as it was there. Do you know what else i am real excited about? do tell. Okay. i am real excited about the new Hunger Games movie.
Speaker: I loved the book. And I love that series. And it is terrifying. And, oh yeah. I don't know. I went down a whole rabbit hole about, i' not even, never mind.
Speaker: I'm going to be quiet for a minute. um but i've I've never seen that. You know, I think maybe I've seen The Hunger Games. I don't know, actually. Oh, okay. So I don't know that I would be all about The Hunger Games the way that I am if I had only seen the movies.
Speaker: right Like, and that's the way I am with Harry Potter, too. Like, I read the books, and then the movies are just like this added, awesome piece of it, right? And I don't know that I would be...
Speaker: If it was only the movies. But gosh, like I am so excited about the casting and the way that it matches. Like I followed whenever they very first started filming the movie, like whenever they were announcing the casting and everything. And I'm like, yep, that's Macy Yep, that's young. Hey, Mitch.
Speaker: Yep. Like I'm excited. And it's getting close, Sal. It is getting close. It's next month. I am excited for you.
Speaker: That's very cool. Thank you. Thank you. You let us know how it is. That's awesome. ah Yeah. It'll be awesome. um Let's see. It's Ross and Emily and Susan.
Speaker: They're getting along like House on Fire. Ross, this is going to sound little jealous vein that's going to run all the way through this episode. Oh, yeah. But my favorite my favorite part was whenever Susan's like, um who says, you know, oh, he's fine. He's fine. It's just not good for him that we're getting along because he doesn't like me. Yes. it Just like, oh, we'll just put it all out there. It's very like deadpan. think a good actress. I think she does. Yeah. She plays it really, really well.
Speaker: She's hysterical. Hysterical. I really like the way that character you the way she plays that character. When the girls' apartment, Phoebe comes in. I think she is carrying a baby named Book, isn't she? Yes, she is. She just can't come up with a good name. She does like Exxon.
Speaker: um Good, strong name. um Chandler throws in a little joke about the Exxon Valdez. Um... that didn't That was funny. that funny And then this starts the whole storyline of Joey and Chandler both say that they should name the baby after each one of them.
Speaker: and And then it descends into arguing about basically who has the better name. um yes we go over still i'm still calling it the boys apartment even though rachel monica have been there for a while at this point uh rachel she's working on her outfit or outfits uh for her date with joshua i do like the scene about she's she's making him dinner what is it making what am i making him again uh Let's see. I've got a frisee salad with goat cheese, pine nuts, wild rice, and then salmon en croûte.
Speaker: Not filet mignon because didn't have any extra of that at the restaurant. Yes. You forgot about the asparagus, though. Oh, asparagus, too. And roasted asparagus.
Speaker: That's right. I remember saying didn't write that down. Good old Monica. She's been a good friend cooking this dinner. And then vacating the apartment it would seem.
Speaker: Yeah, um that is a good friend. We we meander back across the hallway to the girls' apartment. Ross comes in. Emily's just called. She and Susan are having the best time. And Ross is just, he is jealous. It's bringing back all these bad memories of Carol leaving him.
Speaker: Phoebe, yeah, I definitely don't like the name Ross. um yeah it would ah This would never happen to the Hulk. And it's, I kind i mean, I can see a smidge where Ross is coming from and understanding because of what he's been through, but this isn't the best side of Ross that we're seeing at this point.
Speaker: Okay, so did you know that the movie, so he was talking about like whenever they were going to the gym together?
Speaker: Yes. Okay, and then hes and then he's like, didn't you see Personal Best? No, but I'm gonna. I had never, yes, exactly. Exactly. I had never even heard of that movie. Nope.
Speaker: It's movie from 1982 about an Olympic, train ah like ah an Olympian and a track star. And they are like working out together all the time and fall in love. And then they end up becoming competitors for the Olympic team.
Speaker: Oh, I've never heard of it either. Like I just know it from, from friends. um Yeah. Interesting. Yeah. Well, I ended up, well, no, it's later on this scene, I ended up doing a deep dive. Because Phoebe says she's decided it's definitely going to be Chandler or Joey, and they start arguing.
Speaker: And ah I think, yes, this is where they say there's, you know, Raymond Chandler and then joyy but gluco Joey Joey Buttefuku is one of those names, I know the name. Didn't know what he Oh, yeah. That's interesting. Kate just made sort of agreeing noise. I had no idea.
Speaker: I assumed he was kind of like a a mobster, something like that. I was wrong. Yeah, that that's that's a Wikipedia page and a half. That one is. Yeah, it is.
Speaker: Yeah, it is. Yeah. i See? And that's... Yeah. we I guarantee you, Kate knows about Joey Butterfugo because...
Speaker: He was in the news. I'm going to assume judging by the agreeing noise that you know the whole story. Oh, yes. yes Yeah. yeah i just That was a tabloid nightmare is what that was.
Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. It's a... children of the 90s. Seems like he's but he is remarried and is living a quiet life in California somewhere doing something that um yeah, I just... Being a mobster.
Speaker: Yeah, maybe. Maybe I foreshadowed because that's what I thought he was. That was my assumption. But no, that was 30 minutes I'll never get back reading about that whole situation. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: um So let's see. Is this where Joey kind of basically says the channel is stupid name? Like, not aggressively. Yeah, and then he apologizes a bit later for it, I think. But yeah, that would hurt my feelings, I think.
Speaker: It felt like a personal attack and looked along on his best friend. ahh Yeah, stupid non-names. that it Kind of like Chandelier, but it's not. is where the and but is Yeah.
Speaker: yeah it's funny because was it I can't remember what episode now where Chandler says something like, Handel, Handel's my middle name. Actually, it's the middle of my first name.
Speaker: So and a couple of riffs on his name, which I do enjoy. We go back across the hall and Joshua and Rachel are on their date. He's freaked out by the by the farm burns.
Speaker: I do love when Rachel takes them out the hallway knocks on the door. And Joey just jes thinks this is incredible that they managed to knock on the door. Yeah. He's still freaked out, even though that's a whole lot pecking to get through the door.
Speaker: um but so they just decided, you know, we're going to pack all this up and we're going to go across town to his parents. I can't remember what he's having done. I think he says, but I don't remember in his apartment.
Speaker: Do you remember? Yeah. um Because he just says they're working on this week and it's a total mess. but Yeah, it doesn't say what. Well, I was going to ask you if you had any strong like dislikes or possible weird phobia, but we've already heard about... ah I've forgotten the name. Gertrude the Goose, whatever it was. Mayberry. Mayberry the Swan, yes. No, but Mayberry is not a swan. Mayberry was a A mean old stupid goose. A mean old stupid goose. Yeah, that lived like 15 years or something psycho. Something too long. Over at Lions Club Park.
Speaker: We're at the park and you go to throw bread to the ducks and he chased the kids. He sucked. Yeah. We don't miss Mayberry. No. Fly high, Mayberry. That's right.
Speaker: Yeah. So that was wild. Okay. Yes. And then, yeah. Okay. but Wait. But first, do you have some sort of crazy thing like that?
Speaker: About an animal some sort? No, I don't think so. so No, the one that, I mean, I think we may have talked this before.
Speaker: There's things like mice and stuff. I don't mind them when they're in a cage or, you know, where they're supposed to be. A snake, fine, where supposed to be. If I'm out, you know, going for a hike and I see a snake, I did last week, fine, it's where they're supposed to be.
Speaker: ah i've told you we had a snake in the house recently. Did I tell you that? so Yeah, did I tell that story? Recently? Like how recent? Like a few weeks ago. No. All right. Do the Yeah, we'll try to keep this story for for our patient listeners. I'll truncate the story. Basically, I'm sitting outside.
Speaker: Jack, my stepson, comes in. He sees what he thinks is a fake snake on the ground. Says something along the lines to Kate of, oh, you almost got me. What are you talking about?
Speaker: He's like, The pretend snake in the kitchen. They go into the kitchen to look at it and Maybe this is just in my head, but it rears up its head and looks at them and goes, I'm not a fake snake.
Speaker: Kate yells for me to come in I come in I'm charged with one job, and that one job is to watch the snake. Get rid of it. oh Just to watch initially, because I think she went to get a shoes on, something of that.
Speaker: And in the blink of an eye, the snake went, do, do, do, and went under our kitchen cabinet. No! And then you have nightmares because it's crawling around in the walls. Well, I would have if I'd slept much. Kate, bless her, had already taken her little over-the-counter sleeping aid. So she kind of went, peace out, I'm going to bed Because it doesn't freak her out like it did me.
Speaker: I'm like, what do I do here? So there's one deliberate, like ever so slight gap at the bottom of one side of our kitchen cabinets. So I stuffed a towel in there and then go, OK, what do I do?
Speaker: Asked my neighbours and didn't know this, but do now. We can call the city of Denton Animal Control if there's a snake in your house, even at 1030 at night.
Speaker: You can call. They will come out. So the guy came out. That's nice. The guy came out in his... I expected like a sheriff looking chap to show up. It was a young guy in his basketball shorts, his Crocs.
Speaker: He had like a stick and a bucket. The nicest guy in the world. I'd woken him up. You know, he was on call. He came out and we pulled out the oven. He could see his tail, tried to get it and it did it it up into the drawer somewhere.
Speaker: And he's like I can't get it. There's nothing I can do. Oh, no! I decided to sleep in the living room. We have have an open plan thing because...
Speaker: I couldn't cope with not knowing. And Wrigley, our dog, if he saw it, he would go nuts. So I'm like, this is the best security system I've got to try and keep it in the cabinets. He's snoozing out there with Wrigley because maybe he'll see it.
Speaker: Yeah, next morning, nothing. Kate, the brave, brave soul that she is, comes out the bedroom, basically says, right, we're pulling all the drawers in the oven out, we're going to find this thing. We've Googled it by this point, we were 99% sure it wasn't a venomous snake.
Speaker: Fine. And basically, we pulled everything out, couldn't find it. But what we did find was, and this sounds bad and it's really not, in the In the wall, in the sheetrock, like behind the cabinets, obviously you can't see, there was good size round hole where the gas line and things come in for the oven.
Speaker: So Kate with lots of confidence, me with a little less, but i'm willing to go with it, said, I bet it went through there. So we plugged that hole up, we put the oven back, and we never saw it again.
Speaker: There you go. Yeah. Dead snake, wherever it is. Wherever it Living its best life. It's flying high with Mayberry. It's up there with Mayberry the goose. Yeah.
Speaker: Oh. Yeah. But that was that was a night with not much sleep. No. No. That's like whenever I had the bees in the in the wall outside and the in the patio and then I couldn't sleep for for days because it's like there are bees in the wall and no yeah now couldn't do it kid do it now yeah I'm fine with these things in their own ah their own milieu you know where they're meant to be right don't come in my house here is not there if you're not paying rent we don't want you
Speaker: Yeah, I went for a hike on the local trail last week. There was a similar sized looking snake in the middle of the trail. I just nudged it with a stick so nobody would get it if they were coming through and off he went and it's fine.
Speaker: Be where you're supposed to be would be great. Right. oh One of my big things that I've been working with my younger friends on, right?
Speaker: Expected versus unexpected behaviors. they Exactly. Just be doing the expected thing. Don't be unexpected in my kitchen.
Speaker: yeah Yeah. Don't be unexpected in my kitchen. In my pantry. In the floor. In the wall. None of the above. supposed to be None of the above. You can tell that you and I have not chit-chatted in a while.
Speaker: Oh, yeah. This podcast is off the rails and there's nothing wrong with that at all. Sorry. No, don't have to do We're in Ross's apartment now. Carol comes over and she's picking up Ben. Ross confides in her that she thinks that Susan and Emily might be having a little too much fun. The fun that Carol and Susan were having when they were married. Again, I think Ross...
Speaker: I can understand in theory because he's been burned before, but I think he's going a bit overboard with all of this. Like he's created a whole story in his head at this point about going for the drink. Oh, knows that it was crazy until she goes, maybe. And he's like, oh, my God. I didn't know it until you said it. Yeah. What a dummy. But, yeah, dang.
Speaker: And the thing, like whenever Phoebe, have we gotten to the part where Phoebe's saying in like, oh no, that's lit in a minute. Nevermind. We'll wait. We'll get to it. Phoebe's so wise.
Speaker: see Good old Phoebe. We go to Joshua's parents' place. Holy smokes. Two so two stories, two floors. um There's many millions. living rooms. Yeah. yeah this is this is This is the life of luxury.
Speaker: um Did you notice who played Joshua's dad?
Speaker: Some old dude. Some old dude. Well, I wouldn't know who he is except for his name. His name is John Benet Perry. That's Matthew Perry's dad. Whoa.
Speaker: Yeah. Oh, really? Yeah, that's Matthew Perry's dad. um John Benet, like John Benet Ramsey? Yeah. Yeah. Unless it's pronounced, you know, might be pronounced Bennett, I suppose.
Speaker: But yeah, B-E-N-N-E-T-T. Huh. Yeah. Yeah. Not sure what the connection is there, but yeah, that is Matthew Perry's dad. was i um Rachel goes to a freshen up and then his parents make an unexpected unexpected arrival it's so awkward all of it I was entering the cringe yes a from all angles I feel because Rachel obviously is mortified poor old Joshua he's kind of caught in the middle here Joshua's dad is a bit of a creep you know it's kind of
Speaker: it's It's just, it's it's awkward and uncomfortable. France sucks. Italy sucks. And then Rachel comes out in her dress. um The mum makes such a rude comment about the $500. You know, it was for groceries.
Speaker: Oh, yeah. Yeah. Like, that's that's that's ah out out of left field, you know? Like, it's to say that in front of somebody... um Rachel kind of, she tries to cover this up. She says that wearing these clothes is part of her job. The usa not ready, but maybe in LA. Very useful suggestion.
Speaker: and then they decide to all go out for dinner, but basically the dad's only going to go if Rachel's wearing that dress, is what it sounded like. Okay, see, I was i was trying to...
Speaker: figure out if he was being creepy or if he was just like, oh my god, and and you're really going to wear that dress. So to be fair, you're going to be wearing that dress.
Speaker: joshua That's the way I took it. Nobody else thought creepy in the scene. Joshua and the mom didn't say or do anything, so maybe it was just the way I interpreted it. Oh. Yes.
Speaker: Um, But yeah, they're all going to go out for dinner. ah We end up back in the girls' apartment. Chandler is choosing a new name for himself. He's decided that that name is holding him back.
Speaker: um Do you remember what two names were his final two choices? Yeah, Clint. He liked Clint. He liked Clint. And then they called him Gene.
Speaker: That's right. What's what's wrong with Gene? That's right. Yeah. Yeah. um Let's see. we when Then we end up in Central Park. Rachel is debriefing Monica and Phoebe about her date, about the accident that happened when the waiter spilled water down her back. Um...
Speaker: Ross comes in, you got a message from Emily. They're going to a poetry reading, which for him, just this just sounds like the nail in the coffin of of the whole Susan and Emily situation as far as he's concerned. They must be together.
Speaker: I mean, poetry, two ladies going together. What else could possibly be it have be the case other than they have fallen for each other um I do think from here on out in the end of this scene they're kind of mean to Ross I mean Phoebe's right he is being a crazy jealous sycophant as she says but when they start kind of do you know what that word really means no no idea huh I do because I looked it up I looked it up a sycophant sycophant
Speaker: And it's a person who praises powerful or rich or influential people in an insincere way to gain personal advantage.
Speaker: Not the right word. no that doesn't sense. Not the word she was trying to think. No. No. But. Go ahead. Yeah. Oh, yeah. So, like, that doesn't make any sense. But phoebe Phoebe kind of nailed it, though, whenever she's like, wow, Carol really messed you up.
Speaker: Yeah. Like, yeah, she sure It all stems from Carol. A sycophant. Sycophant. That's what it is. It's in it's for a flattering somebody ah purely because you think you're going get something from it. and We don't like that. they're Right. Well, it doesn't make sense. She's like, okay, so I don't know what that means, but everything else is right. Yeah, she's not wrong. Is he jealous? and Untrusting.
Speaker: You did remind me I looked something up from the whole Joshua's parents coming in. i looked up who Joshua's mum was. Here's a fun fact that I didn't know. So her name is Pat Crowley, the actress.
Speaker: She starred in a television show in 1979 that was shown on ABC called Prince. That's weird.
Speaker: It only lasted five episodes. It was about this small group of children from very different backgrounds. I think there was a very middle class, nuclear family kind of child. There one whose parents were divorced.
Speaker: They were both white. And then there was a black child, but they and they were all friends. And the whole thing was going to be about these three children from very different backgrounds. I think there were 11. Yeah. um And it was like it could be a coming of age thing. Three people, three different backgrounds in the 70s. But it only lasted um five.
Speaker: Sorry, I got very distracted. Kate was showing me a book. um Five episodes. And then it was cancelled. that's it was Yeah, I need you to go ahead and tell us what book is she showing?
Speaker: Could you please show me the cover of the book again? She doesn't want to. I think I know what it was about. But Deanne is asking. You can't say no to Deanne.
Speaker: She said she'll sure off the podcast. Which makes filthy and racist. But I promise it wasn't.
Speaker: Okay. Oh, I just snorted. You'll be getting a text of a picture imminently, I'm sure. i'll be I'm waiting patiently. here when i stop praying oh she's left it right here.
Speaker: So I can tell you off the air what it is. Okay. Yes. Well, I'll show you. but she was She's the only actress to have appeared in both of these shows. 1979 on ABC was the original Friends.
Speaker: I had no idea. Yeah, just the five episodes. Anyway, I got way off track. You just reminded me. I've forgotten about that. Yeah, I think Phoebe has a good point, but when they kind of descend into like Monica monniica going, this is so much fun.
Speaker: Hey, don't don't don'll be too mean. Ross is beating himself up enough, and he is being a little crazy. but Yeah, well, and they're just kind of unloading why he is the way he is because all of his high school girlfriends were cheating on him and it didn't him didn bug him then and until Carol yeah in 94 we go back to the girls apartment um Phoebe's playing her drum Chandler comes in this is the scene I was thinking of do you remember what he's going to the courthouse at 4pm he's going to be this name or that name do you remember what those two names are
Speaker: No. John Markson or Mark Johnson? He's going to be one of those. Joey, helpful as ever, suggests Barney. You think that might be a good name for him.
Speaker: um And this is where Phoebe kind says, no, Chandler's a great name. In fact, as long as you keep the name Chandler, I'm going to name this baby boy Chandler.
Speaker: And this was I think Phoebe then walks out and Chandler basically reveals to Joey with a a laugh and a point that this is going like, he was playing the long game. This was that this was all a ruse to get Phoebe to agree to Chandler.
Speaker: which is a yes kind of brilliantly done, i think. Oh, for sure. For sure. Yes. Yeah. And we end this episode. We're at the airport.
Speaker: Ross and Carol are there to pick up Susan and Emily. Ross is no tongue line. Ooh, ooh, ooh. That's crass. Again. no yeah yeah Enough of that nonsense. Ross.
Speaker: yeah And that's where we kind of end this episode. um Let's think who would be your Gunther Central Park of the week.
Speaker: Okay, have a random one. I like it. I like it. i know. It's Alice. who oh I didn't see that coming. I know. I see why. She's one scene. But man, like i ah that's a scene that sticks with you. Like Rachel and the awkwardness.
Speaker: Like, I knew that that scene was in this episode, but that scene where she's like, and wants to name him Frank Jr. Jr. And she says, um wouldn't it be Frank? Or Chandler's like, wouldn't it be Frank to start? Don't even get me started. That's right. And it's like,
Speaker: That's so funny. But she's hysterical every single time. But yes I just, ah one scene and she stands out on that. I like it. I like this rationale. I like it.
Speaker: I'm on board. I've gone for Chandler just because I like this long game of this joke he's playing to get his way. Yeah. I also like the fact that he decides his name is dumb in his mind and he's going to do something about it. I just like it. I like it. I'm all for Chandler.
Speaker: um Yes. How should we measure this episode? Why in teeny tiny dresses. I think it has to be. Yes, and actually what I have written is slinky fashion dresses. Slinky fashion dresses. That's what we shall call it. Slinky fashion. The SFDs. Yes.
Speaker: Yes, there you go. all right. So for me, this one was seven and a half. Right. i ah felt like eight was too much. But then I had seven and I was like, that's too low.
Speaker: so luckily we got 7.5. That is exactly. Half of a dress. Yeah, half a dress. It's exactly my right line thinking. I thought, maybe this is an eight. And I was like, well, I don't love the Joshua storyline too much. But seven is too low because I really do like the the baby name storyline. So that's where I ended up on seven and a half as well.
Speaker: So I like that. There you Let's see. Next week, um so I've got to be honest, I let this play forward just about 10 seconds.
Speaker: Didn't have enough time. Because I was like, what is the one with the haste? I don't know what the one with the haste is. But then I did realize this has, I'm not going to tell you what it is, possibly my favorite opening scene of the entire Friends.
Speaker: Okay. Well, this next episode is on the next CD. Or a DVD or But it's on the next DVD. So I have no idea.
Speaker: No clue. it yeah I don't remember either at all. I just i saw the beginning of the opening first scene. But yes. But it's not the one... With ah Robin Williams.
Speaker: and That's it that's a yeah another. I know. you That's a good point. That's up there. That's my favorite opening. I think of probably the entire series. But I'm excited to see what the next one is because I could be wrong.
Speaker: I'm going to say thus far. That one is up there too. that For different reasons, I think. So we can have you know multiple ones that are just the favorites because they're different. So maybe this one is up there with Robin Williams and Billy Crystal because that one is, I mean, superb. So, so good. yeah as Yes. Yes. Yes.
Speaker: Right. Well, let's see. Next week, get the one with all the haste. Any final thoughts before we sign off?
Speaker: No. No. Good. I like it. Just like Alice, you are standing resolute your decision. And there you go. Yep. I feel great about it. Good for you. As always, everybody, thank you for listening to this quite unhinged episode of the Purple Door Podcast.
