Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello everybody and welcome back to GSPN Daily Wars. I'm your host today, it's Will. And of course, as always, I'm joined by Chris, the wonderful Chris. How are we?
00:00:20
Chris
I'm good. Welcome back, stranger. How you doing?
00:00:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know, I know. Again, long long time no speak. Well, in the world of football, long time no speak anyway.
00:00:28
Chris
yeah and welcome in, everyone.
00:00:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:00:29
Chris
Welcome in.
00:00:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, yes. um Now, of course, I'm sure everybody is aware, we travelled to Selhurst Park ah this evening to take on Palace. um Now, Chris, I know you've already given ah few of your thoughts.
00:00:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was just wondering, would you would you like to summarise them as best as possible for both both myself and perhaps anyone who wasn't able to catch them first time around? What are your general thoughts and feelings ahead of ahead of tonight's games?
00:01:01
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.

Crystal Palace's FA Cup Impact

00:01:03
Chris
I jumped on after the, yeah the FA Cup match at the weekend, um because I figured that was a good time for a few quick immediate thoughts, given that they are our opponents. And obviously they've had a massive weekend with their first ever piece of silverware.
00:01:18
Chris
And, and it's a, you know, it's a good one at the FA Cup. It's still a classic in many of our eyes and it should be.
00:01:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:01:23
Chris
I'm just annoyed on a side note that as I rambled on a bit about in that episode, that it's in the midst of the last few weeks of the season, as opposed to after the season,
00:01:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:01:31
Chris
let's not go. I mean, I can go there, but I'll try not to go on a massive tangent. um So yeah, it seemed like a good time. And the summary of my thoughts from that, if you don't want to scroll back through all of that was that I'm hoping that if anything, a win for them in the cup was good for us.
00:01:47
Chris
Cause maybe we'll get a hungover team playing us, you know, even cause even if they make a lot of changes for people that didn't start,
00:01:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes. Yes.
00:01:56
Chris
That's still only a few days since the event. What is it, two, three days, if that? And so um on top of that, I'm sure they had at least one or two days of partying ah together, maybe with family, whatever. So, you know, as much as they want to be back on focus, that their season is, let's face it, their season is done.
00:02:15
Chris
And I'm sure they're in like high-flying celebration mode.
00:02:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:02:18
Chris
Hopefully a few hangovers still being nursed. So that was the gist of it. I'm hoping it's a good time to play with them and maybe we can go and just ah get back into winning ways.
00:02:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah,

The Significance of Underdog Victories

00:02:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
of course. I mean, it's it's one of those where, much like most things ah in football, it could go one of two ways because ah on the one hand of things, as you've mentioned, I expect to play a team that's hungover, that's on the beaches, that, you know, without a care in the world as to what the result is in the league when you've just won the first major trophy for your club.
00:02:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it's it's none other than, yeah, the FA Cup, as you said, Chris. Just just a quick note on that. i was i I think it's just so good for football that the sort of underdog team won.
00:03:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And what I especially liked was the... just to share a sheer emotion in the palace players, you know, who who sort of, you know, drop into their knees at the final whistle and sort of disbelief.
00:03:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Um, because, you know, imagine the reaction of the city players out there of when it wouldn't have been anywhere near half as sort of, you know, meaningful.
00:03:35
Chris
No, the other the other part of, again, I had a few little ah rambles in in my solo monologue. One part was that as much as I'm not, you know, a fan of Crystal Palace, I have no kind of love, shall we say, for them, because especially we always seem to sometimes have a tough time against them.
00:03:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Um,
00:03:52
Chris
But I am thankful that a Man City didn't win a thing again.
00:03:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:03:55
Chris
and ah because we've had such a flurry of Man City over the last few years and that it is so a fan base that at least, A, because they haven't won anything before and b because it's actually quite, you know, it's a very old club as well um and have been wasting a very long time to win something.
00:03:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:04:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:04:12
Chris
So it's a fan base that actually appreciate and, rh you know, are going to really bask in it. And that's lovely to see. So I'm i'm more i'm credit... to them at least and I'm happy for a team like say to win it that hasn't won it before
00:04:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, Chris, just on that, actually, I saw someone, I saw the TikTok after the game or whatever it was on, Instagram, whatever. And it was, you know, of the Palace fans and players' reactions.
00:04:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I saw this, like, random kid just comment all of this for an FA Cup with a little question mark.
00:04:46
Chris
oh my
00:04:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I was like, oh, just shut up. It really, really wound me up because, I mean, Chris, I tell you now, if if if Wolves had won the FA Cup, it's not the sort of team that you'd still be worried about being hungover. It'd be the GSPN Daily Wolves team.
00:05:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think would very much be hungover and absolutely on cloud cloud nine because, you know, a lot of people, like I said, a lot of Palace fans in this situation would have given everything who win that. So, see yeah, it's nice that it goes to someone who sort of appreciates it, I suppose.
00:05:23
Chris
This is the thing.
00:05:23
Chris
And

The FA Cup's Declining Prestige

00:05:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah.
00:05:24
Chris
this is the thing. And I'm sorry, we are going to go on ah a little bit of rant for a second is that, you know, it's the FA Cup is still glorious.
00:05:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
yes yeah
00:05:31
Chris
It's a unique football competition that it is the entire football league, you know, and so many of the sports don't do this where literally, you know, as minnows can come from way down
00:05:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah.
00:05:41
Chris
you know, amateur teams can come all the up and play behemoths and all this kind of thing. The magic of the cup is still there. We see it in one way or another every year or two with teams, you know, from lower divisions getting to quarterfinals, even, you know, semifinals, whatever it may be.
00:05:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:05:56
Chris
and And it's undermined, A, over recent years with the amount of, obviously, your top four to six teams who have, like, got so many games that they just want it out the way and they start fielding kids.
00:06:07
Chris
and this kind of thing because they just want it gone. And then on top of that, because so much media is focused on Europe now, we've got the fact that the FA Cup has been moved to two weeks before the end of the season.
00:06:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes. Yeah.
00:06:21
Chris
And on top of that, you know, it means that it's no longer the focus. It was the end of the year. You know, it was like your football league is finished.
00:06:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:06:30
Chris
It is the final is the literally the football finale of the year before the summer. So all eyes used to be on it. It was the focal point of football. And so it was the day was the thing. And you literally coverage would used to watch the the buses go to Wembley. That was all part of it. You know, like it was it it was almost like when, you know, the new prime minister comes in and you work and the cameras show that, you know, the Rolls Royce go into Wembley.
00:06:54
Chris
to the the but the mansion for the queen to do the knighthood and all that or whatever it was all that just it was the whole day it was a thing because all the other football had finished and it was the culmination of English football and all of that is being sucked away by shoving it in between other games I mean Palace having a game in the league three days later just goes to show how it's just being almost cast aside And now other fans from, especially that follow all these big teams that are just so focused on Europe, they, they're losing the essence of it. And it's being ripped out of our, of our game. And it's, and it is upsetting. It's so it's upsetting me. Well,
00:06:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah yeah
00:07:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
I can tell and I can only i can only echo what you've just said there, Chris. I think, you know, if anything, and I suppose to a certain extent this what counts, is that you speak to most sort of day-to-day just football fan, average fan, and they'll agree with you 100% on all of those things. And it does still mean a lot to a lot of people.
00:07:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I hope that, as we said, ah the underdog winning it, gives that a bit more of a boost, you know, and gives gives some gives people, you know, I suppose a bit more of a focus on the Cup, having seen what it can do for a club and for fans. um
00:08:11
Chris
I do want to say as much as I think Man City are huge, I think it's almost a, and I hate to say this as a wall's fun about Crystal Palace, but I think people keep doing Palace a disservice by saying they're the underdog, if you know what i mean.
00:08:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
But obviously, God,
00:08:22
Chris
Like they're an underdog team. They're a premiership team.
00:08:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah.
00:08:25
Chris
And, you know, at the very they were a good premiership team. And I think, I know that, you know, they had to defend a lot because it's against Man City, but it's not like, you know, it's not like a a championship or an old first division, second division team coming up in and winning the cup.
00:08:42
Chris
They're not exactly minnows. You know, I know they haven't won FA Cup before or anything like that, but but they're still big club.
00:08:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, no.
00:08:51
Chris
So I don't know. Do you get where coming from?
00:08:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, of course, but they yeah but at the end of the day, they were still underdogs. I mean, at the City team on paper should beat the Palace, and there's no... um you know On paper, there's no so debating that, and I suppose um dot that's all that you know most football fans would think of. So
00:09:15
Chris
Yeah.
00:09:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
so i do get your point, but I think as well it's been that long since... i think I remember... Did Swansea win like the League Cup or something? Even then, they might have been Premier League when they won that.
00:09:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
But it's been that long since a team in the lower half of the Premier League has won that competition.
00:09:35
Chris
yeah
00:09:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
that In the sense of, you know relative to that, they they certainly...
00:09:35
Chris
and
00:09:38
Chris
Yeah, overall, it's been a good year if you think that, you know, we've seen the end of Man City's Premier League run ah in terms of title holders, which is great.
00:09:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:09:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:09:46
Chris
We've seen Newcastle win the League Cup for the first time in a long time. And I know they're a big club, but at least again, it's someone else winning that that.
00:09:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:09:54
Chris
And now Crystal Palace win the FA Cup. So, you know, I think overall um it ah makes it a little bit more interesting as a whole.
00:10:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. 100%. And that takes and that I suppose to the flip side of my original argument, which was going to be as much as Palace should rightly so be celebrating that and for, well, more than three days. As you mentioned, they've league game straight after. It's ridiculous.
00:10:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
On the flip side of them being sort of hungover from the partying and sort of being on the beaches is we're going away to a team that couldn't be more confident having just...
00:10:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
ridden the wave that they've ridden having won the Cup the other day.
00:10:39
Chris
True.
00:10:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
you know They're going to be absolutely buzzing and you you know they could it could work against us in that sense.

Wolves vs. Palace Strategy Discussion

00:10:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But yeah, I'd like to say overall I'm i' fairly confident that if not due to Vitor giving Arlott our boys, you know, theyre bit of a bit of a kick up the backside that they appeared to have needed after having definitely against the Brighton the other week.
00:11:10
Chris
Yep.
00:11:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
It was the most sort of on-the-beaches performance I've seen in a long while.
00:11:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
um So I think, yeah, if if not due to that, I'm confident that we' we'll get something from the game just due to Palace's sort of, you know, i mean, why would they? no i know this sounds really bad, but the players don't care at this point if they win or lose on Tuesday night, do that they? They care about what they've just achieved. Yeah.
00:11:39
Chris
Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how many changes, like how strong a side Palace puts out in terms of the, for example, the people that started the cup game, how many people that are in that cup game that went the full, what was it, 100 odd minutes in the end?
00:11:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah.
00:11:53
Chris
I was kind of secretly hoping it was going to go through extra time at one point.
00:11:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah yeah
00:11:56
Chris
I've got to be honest, because that would shatter them even more. um
00:12:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah
00:12:00
Chris
But, you know, as long as we put an end, i would like to put an end to the losses. I don't want to go three games unbeaten.
00:12:06
Chris
I want us to go out on a high. So even if we get a draw away to Palace, which is still, I think, a decent result, like say, especially if they do come out on a high, um if we can get a point away to Palace and then looking ahead at a home win at the end of the season to Brentford, I think that would be ah decent turnaround over the next two games.
00:12:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
No.
00:12:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, of course, of course.
00:12:23
Chris
So, yeah, I yeah hope I'm hoping there on the they're still hungover, but even if they're boosted, let's hope I'm hoping for some points on the board.
00:12:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, no, I agree. And you mentioned there looking ahead towards Brentford and then after that, looking ahead to, ah you know, summer transfer window in a new season.

Transfer Rumors: Cunha and More

00:12:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
But before we look ahead to either of those things, Chris, let's just take a short message from one of our sponsors.
00:13:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, so in terms of looking ahead then, Chris, if you remember what feels like an eternity ago now, when we first started these Daily Wolves podcasts, it was the summer transfer window, and lo and behold, you know, sort of blink your eyes and we'll be there again this season. So,
00:13:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
it is on that note that I bring to you one or two little transfer rumours that have been doing the rounds recently. First of all, reports over the weekend, I mean, ah these reports have been coming for for the past goodness knows however many months, but it's that...
00:14:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think yeah pretty much after the Brentford game, after the season is finalised, Mateus Cunha's move to Manchester United will be confirmed. That is coming from Fabrizio Romano, so we have the here we go on that. um
00:14:33
Chris
can i Can I say once again, we've said it before, but I find it more ironic the longer the season, and now we're coming towards towards the end of the season, but the longer it's gone on this whole saga, the fact that as it is, he's going to a team that is looking likely to end below us in the league, possibly 17th in the league, only, you know, ah for a team that is clearly on its way, as we've spoken about, down in terms of its, you know, its tent reign as where it's known in the past.
00:14:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:14:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:14:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:15:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:15:01
Chris
and And so it's clearly just all about money and name and nothing more, because if it was truly about wanting to, you know, be the best at the best level right now, that would not be Man United.
00:15:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, not at all. And I think the the discourse was over the weekend was obviously they've got a sort of slight glimmer of hope at saving their season, as it were, and securing Champions League football ridiculously next season if they were to win the Europa League final against Spurs, which...
00:15:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I'm absolutely praying that they don't because, and Chris, I've never voiced this, I don't think, on the podcast and I have absolutely no reason for it either. But ever since I was young, I'm doing wrong, I'm wolves through and through, but I've always had a weird, whenever I've seen, you know, if i'm if I'm a neutral and, you know, Spurs on the telly and they're playing someone who I don't care about, I've always weirdly wanted them to win.
00:16:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've always had a weird little soft spot. I don't know why.
00:16:02
Chris
Get out.
00:16:03
Chris
Just get out. This is the last time we will be heard on the Daily Wolves podcast.
00:16:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well,
00:16:08
Chris
I'm sorry. I'm sorry, everyone.
00:16:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know.
00:16:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
i know.
00:16:10
Chris
don't know how he slipped through the net here.
00:16:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
know.
00:16:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah just... I can't... You know what it is? I remember when I was like... don't know how old, but I had a little PS... PSP, I want to say. um And the FIFA I had on it... um think you could only have Premier League teams on it, on like the weird little version I had.
00:16:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
And so they were they would the random team I selected. And it's, yeah, I've just, I don't know. I don't know. I can't justify it. And I'm not going to try to either. But either way, either way,
00:16:40
Chris
No, please don't. Please don't. and i know
00:16:43
Chris
No, let me cut in to say that I was thinking about this fixture a bit because I've been thinking about this whole thing of, you know, Kuni going to Man U and how it's ridiculous where they are in the league. And he's made all this thing about going to be, you know, doing bigger and better things and yet clearly not bigger and better things.
00:16:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:17:00
Chris
So just about the paycheck. And then the chance that that I mean, the the the fact that Tottenham and Man U, two of the worst fan bases, by the way, in Premier League football is for from my position in terms of just they both think they should be in that top echelon all the time, even that like Tottenham particularly, they haven't been there in ages. And yet they still seem to think that's where they belong.
00:17:23
Chris
because they've got this ginormous stadium and all this money, and yet they never managed to do it. So they feel this righteous thing to be there. How the two of them are both in the Europa League final against each other, in the position they are in the league, and how weird they've been in the league, and you just think, I'm what i'm looking at that thinking, if there is any physical way that that final could end with neither of them winning, like somehow...
00:17:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:17:48
Chris
It gets called off or like, i don't know, thunder strikes it or something and the whole thing gets cancelled, whatever it is, postponed for a year.
00:17:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:17:56
Chris
I don't know. But because it feels like neither of them deserve to win. I'm just saying it out loud.
00:18:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:18:01
Chris
and And if it has to be one, purely on a personal note, because I don't want Kony to get what he's been craving all this time, then it has to be Tottenham, just so that Man U don't get European football.
00:18:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:18:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:18:13
Chris
And we see one more dent in Man U fans, you know, righteous glory.
00:18:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
i think I think that's where most people want Spurs to win. Yeah.
00:18:23
Chris
but i But if there was any way for a third party to miraculously swoop in and just win this game, you know, or one of them to get suddenly disqualified the last moment and then hit someone that lost in the semifinal get put in their place, then, yeah, let that happen, please.
00:18:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Well, yes, and the discourse around the Cunha topic was very much that, and it was essentially the news is that it's confirmed that he will still join them with or without European football.
00:18:50
Chris
pathetic to be honest it's pathetic and i'm sorry i keep ripping this episode all over the place but it is just pathetic at this point that it's got that all this saga ever since january and before has gone on and on and on and it just it it just winds me up and to be honest i said in my solo thing the other day that um you know because the goal of the season thing is up
00:18:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:18:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, go for it, go for
00:18:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah.
00:19:14
Chris
And I'm actually really frustrated for all the great goals he scored. I'm actually really frustrated that they've put so few nominations in for other players. Because I don't know if you looked at that list. There's it's nearly all Cunha.
00:19:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:19:26
Chris
There's Belagard. Larson has scored more than one good goal. And there's literally one Larson goal in there.
00:19:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:19:31
Chris
You're telling me that none of his other goals deserved at least a nomination? You're seriously telling me that?
00:19:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, well, he's... Chris, he' he's not he's not the big name.
00:19:38
Chris
They didn't even look at his goal at Tottenham.
00:19:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's not the big name, is he?
00:19:41
Chris
You get what I mean.
00:19:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
So he can't... he can't Yeah, no, of course.
00:19:42
Chris
His goal against Tottenham is a great left-footed finish into the the corner, just as an example. But there's other not there's other ones in there. and and And it's like the Cunha show. And I'm looking at it, and I'm sure I'm not the only fan out there for Wolves at the moment that's thinking, I don't want to vote for one of his goals. I'm at that point.
00:19:59
Chris
I'm seriously at that point where I am literally looking at it thinking, well, I'm probably actually going to vote for that Huang Free kick because that was actually a pretty slick...
00:20:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah, yeah. yeah
00:20:08
Chris
shot that curved out of the goal and then back in the post um purely even though that's like the only thing he's done all season purely because I don't want Kunya to get the award and I know that's petty but that's the saga has drummed on that that far now and it's just like just go to Man fail your career somewhere else hopefully they don't get Europe and and you get ruined and and it all fails because I just I just I want it over with I just want it over with Will
00:20:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes.
00:20:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think most people are at that point now. um So yeah, like yourself, Chris, I can't wait to just be done and dusted with. um So on that note, let's take another quick message from a sponsor.
00:20:45
Chris
Sorry, everyone.
00:20:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then, Chris, I have i have news news for you that is not Cooney related. So we're gonna we're going to divert away from being the Cooney show, of of course.
00:20:55
Chris
Thank you.
00:20:59
Chris
We'll try.
00:21:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I'm going to... Yeah. um I don't, you know, i must just say before we take this little message, I didn't say it's good news that I have, but either way, it's not cooing related.
00:21:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, yeah.
00:21:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
so So, Chris, um as I said, ah we're getting towards the transfer window.
00:21:41
Chris
So well.

Transfer Speculations: Ait Nuri and Wolves' Prospects

00:21:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
um and I'm just going to quick fire these. And, you know, if you can, not to put you on a the spot, but if you can give me quick initial reactions, that would be much appreciated.
00:21:48
Chris
Okay.
00:21:55
Chris
Okay.
00:21:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:21:57
Chris
That's assuming I know who some of these names are, but go, go, go.
00:21:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Again, this, yes, this, this, you'll certainly know this one. um And it's not so much, new news, but the club itself is a bit of sort of you know something different.
00:22:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it's that Ait Nuri is reportedly on the watch list of Manchester City. um We've had loads of reports this season linking him with Liverpool.
00:22:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But yeah, they're looking to strengthen their left-back position and he's he's sort of one of the frontrunners to go there. And as well, Chris, because I'm giving you two Two bits of stories about outgoings. I'll give you one about potential incoming.
00:22:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it's that according to an Italian journalist, um who works closely with AC Milan.
00:22:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's said that Wolves hold an interest in their loan striker, Tammy Abraham. Abraham's set to leave his parent club. His parent club is Roma.
00:23:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's set to leave there at the end of this year. West Ham are also interested. um but Wolves are the other Premier League club or one of the other Premier League clubs earn that throwing their hat in the ring um so just yeah quick fire off the bat thoughts on the Ike Nuri one yeah
00:23:22
Chris
Hey, Nori, I mean, he's been linked with clubs every summer. It feels like the last two or three years, all of these clubs, Man City, Man U, Liverpool, every time. I get that he, you know, this season, I think he's leading the chance for wingbacks in terms of goals and assists.
00:23:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
hmm hmm
00:23:36
Chris
So it's no surprise that once again, his name is going to be shoved in every direction. um It's crazy to think that he's still only, what, like 23 or something? Because he's been with us for several years playing in the first team.
00:23:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah he's young yeah
00:23:48
Chris
um So, yeah, it seems there's a lot of people talking about the fact that he may well go. um i to be honest, as much as, um you know, we won't probably want some cash, but hopefully some of that comes from the Kunja sale, I don't want Aitnori to go.
00:24:02
Chris
um i think he's fantastic.
00:24:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
no no not at all yeah
00:24:03
Chris
And I think... Even though, and I think as long as he's got someone like Totty behind him, he's a much better wing back than he is, you know, a left back. and So no, um if he goes, I want amazing money given his age and his goal scoring record, you know, in terms of, like we said, he's lot.
00:24:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:24:23
Chris
People want players that can score goals. He can score them and he does things on the ball that no one else can do. So if he goes, it's got to be, I mean, it's got to be over 50 million, right? Easy. Yeah. easy it's got to be yeah
00:24:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, You take away the stats from him and I still love him. Like he said, the stuff he can do with the football, out I don't think you can put a price on that.
00:24:40
Chris
yeah
00:24:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think the only consolation would be if he was depart would be this return of Hugo Bueno. um And Chris, I mean, it's, you know, it may be one for us to look at in the transfer window itself, but thought of some Hugo Bueno crosses fall in the way of Strand Larsson in the box, that that that that gets me excited.
00:25:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
i won't lie to you, it does. It sounds very promising. Mm-hmm.
00:25:10
Chris
Yeah, there's been a lot of debate there because there's obviously a lot of talk about the fact that he's going to come back from his loan. And if Aitnori stays, Bueno having been out on loan and doing well, you know, I know he's had his injuries though. He's had a few injuries while he's been out, but he's had Champions League football. He's done well.
00:25:26
Chris
And he'll be wanting to continue playing. So if Aitnori doesn't go, then I think Buena will. yeah but I think it'd be one of the two. Because I don't think, as much as we want the cover, I don't think they'll both stay.
00:25:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:25:39
Chris
Like, one of them has to make way.
00:25:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah, of course. um Although, having said that, knowing Jeff Shee, it will be both of them and we'll end up with Totty on the wing next season. and
00:25:49
Chris
Yeah.
00:25:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
But with that being said, think What are your thoughts on the potential the potential idea of Tammy Abraham joining our leading line-up? Now, this I'll be honest, this is very much just a rumour and it's not one that I can see happening. But I suppose if he's keen for a return to England, ah club in our position will be more than likely a club that he ends up going to. So, you know, stranger things have happened. um Yeah, I just wanted know your thoughts on on that, really. What do you make of it?
00:26:21
Chris
To be honest, very little. um Purely because, i mean, not only am I not like, I'm not stunned or anything, but also, i mean, the other week people were linking Jamie Vardy with us for heaven's sake.
00:26:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:26:31
Chris
And I'm sorry, about that no but but
00:26:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. yeah
00:26:35
Chris
So some of these things, and I know that's terrible to say on a podcast where people want to talk about transfers, but you know, and until, until there's something more solid, some of these guys, I'm like, come on, come on, just, just hold your horses.
00:26:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:26:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, I do get it.
00:26:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sorry, would you like to repeat that last sentence again, please, Chris?
00:26:52
Chris
No. um But it's, you know, i but no, he's not a ne it's not a name that's making me think, oh, yeah. No.
00:27:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think i think free you know if it was a low fee and... um Yeah, well, that's it, really. If it was a low fee and we can afford to strengthen the position, then I wouldn't be against it. But like you said, we are getting to the time of year now where there's going to be rumours absolutely left, right and centre.
00:27:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But in that time of rumours, Chris...

Contract Talks and Injury Updates

00:27:27
Chris
Well, before then, because talking about outgoings and stuff, I wanted to note that in the press conference today, Vito Pereira was asked about a couple of players, particularly Semedo and Sarabia, because obviously they're both coming out of contract.
00:27:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Would you sorry, go for it, go for it.
00:27:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, yes.
00:27:43
Chris
um He reiterated in um I'll shorten his statement. Basically, he rambled on about both of them, but he made it quite clear once again that he would definitely like them both to stay.
00:27:54
Chris
um He also made it sound like obviously once again that that was kind of out of his hands, but he did verbally, you know, publicly express it again, obviously, I guess.
00:28:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:28:04
Chris
So everyone around him knows in terms of the board whoever else that like, I do like these people and I would like them to stay. he was very explicit both about obviously everyone knows about Sameda I mean he's been great i think he's been great as a captain um doing a lot of stuff behind the scenes in terms of helping players and helping welcoming newcomers and taking people out to dinner and all sorts of stuff um and then Sarabia he mentioned in terms of his professionalism on and off the pitch you know the fact that he's always ready whenever he wants you know he's called upon and
00:28:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:28:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. yeah
00:28:35
Chris
as a person, not just as a player. So, and again, those things are very important, but we know that the contracts are both for both of them are an issue.
00:28:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:28:44
Chris
Um, on a side note to that, whilst, because we're on the press conference, not transfer related or kind of met actually, because, uh, when asked about injuries, he said the only injuries at the moment were Doyle and Johnston.
00:28:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah.
00:28:56
Chris
With small injuries, nothing serious.
00:28:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:28:58
Chris
Now, Johnston, come on, guy. Johnston has been basically out for most of the season in one way or another since he came in, ah especially since Vitor Pereira came in and Sal was really firmly re-established as a starting goalkeeper.
00:29:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:29:13
Chris
Johnston has been like the most... Injured goalie was bla basically like a, I don't want to play or I'm not getting games. So I'm just going to hide. It seems like so clearly that's going to be an out this summer.
00:29:25
Chris
Johnston gone.
00:29:26
Chris
Finally, let's get it over with Doyle makes me sad because I think there is a player there.
00:29:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Uh-huh.
00:29:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. 100%.
00:29:31
Chris
um ah
00:29:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
hundred percent
00:29:33
Chris
And whether this is a genuine injury or not, but the fact it was listed against Johnston in the same way, in the same sentence, i was like, oh. um so I think if he goes, i think it might be a loan though, because obviously he's I think he needs to build his price up.
00:29:48
Chris
Because if you think our Salon Clause from Man City, we got him so cheap, but the Salon Clause is like 50%.
00:29:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:29:54
Chris
So given that he hasn't played hardly this season, I think they'll need to send him out on loan to get his fee up to show he can do something. Like if it's championship top half or something, you know, to show that he's worth a certain price tag.
00:30:09
Chris
And then maybe in and a year or two, then he'll go.
00:30:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah. No, i I can see that happening. I think either way, those are two players who won't be playing for Wolves next season. They're simply...
00:30:20
Chris
no
00:30:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
simply protecting themselves to secure whatever transfers they can get. um Again, we we don't know where they're going to be headed at this stage, but I'm sure there'll be and we plenty of murmurs as to where that will be ah ah you know in the coming weeks.
00:30:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But Chris, before our little segue there, I was just going to confirm something

Wolves' Fanbase and Future Outlook

00:30:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
for you, actually.
00:30:46
Chris
Okay.
00:30:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
um As you know, I've a bit of a hiatus. Well, a small one, but you know i've I've not been around to the court as much.
00:30:51
Chris
You can get tablets for that. Yeah.
00:30:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I've recently been ah been doing a bit of travelling going to one or two places and if I said the name Bratislava would that ring a bell because they i think it's is it Slovan Bratislava Wolves played in a Europa League
00:30:58
Chris
No?
00:31:05
Chris
Okay.
00:31:18
Chris
Right.
00:31:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:31:19
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. and I mean, I know of Bratislava.
00:31:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
a couple of years back
00:31:21
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:31:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, the capital of Slovakia. yeah
00:31:24
Chris
Uh-huh.
00:31:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Not a lot to do there, be honest with dear you. know Lovely place, nevertheless. And the fact that I was going to confirm is that wolves are indeed absolutely massive out there.
00:31:35
Chris
Oh.
00:31:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, you know, make of that what you will.
00:31:39
Chris
Nice.
00:31:40
Chris
and I'm trying to think if we had players from there before, but ah my mind is failing on that one ah at this point in time.
00:31:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:31:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, my my mind is also failing on that one at this point in time.
00:31:50
Chris
we can We can look it up. Google is our friend.
00:31:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
But yes, Chris, that's that's all we have time for today as we look forward to taking on Palace later on.
00:31:58
Chris
OK.
00:32:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
I feel we sort of segwayed very far film from that throughout this episode.
00:32:05
Chris
We did.
00:32:05
Chris
Other search engines are available, too.
00:32:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
But that you look
00:32:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
that is what these episodes are about. just having a catch-up and a chat about the wolves. So...
00:32:14
Chris
Quickly, Will, you didn't say, so what do you think the score's going to be?
00:32:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
so
00:32:17
Chris
Just quickly, tomorrow. ah Today even, sorry.
00:32:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
a
00:32:19
Chris
What am I saying? I'm getting my days is all mixed up.
00:32:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
um just sort of 2-0 Wolves I reckon ah yeah yeah it's just what I fancy
00:32:27
Chris
Two no wolves? Okay, okay. I'll take a two one. I'll take a two one to wolves. and That would be nice.
00:32:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah um yeah either way i think we'll come away with something with them yeah still feeling the effects of their heavy weekend I imagine um but yeah on that note Chris i'm going to hand over it to you you you you already know you already know what I'm giving you the honours to say right now
00:32:33
Chris
That'd be nice.
00:32:53
Chris
Well, um it is nearly, is it I don't think it's officially summer yet, but it's practically here in its full glory at the moment. And as we have left some of the colder days behind us and those dark dusk mornings, the football season may be drawing to an end, but summer is on its way.
00:33:10
Chris
And that is once again a reminder, everyone, including to you, Mr. Will, that out of darkness cometh light.
00:33:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
thank you that was sorry just just before we go can I just compliment how poetic that was it's genuinely brought it to my eye so thank you
00:33:18
Chris
Bye-bye.
00:33:26
Chris
Thanks. Thanks.
