Welcome Back and Season Resumption

00:00:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Welcome in Wolves fans, welcome back from the international break. It is I, Chris, here once again with you at Daily Wolves and it's time to get back into business. The season is back underway or will, I mean, will be finally. We had some FA Cup games this weekend um but, you know, I'm not even going to think about that because our cup run ended hideously after that We're not even going to get it. We're not even going to get into that Cunha Red card again. We've done all of that. We've done all of that. And then the international break, who really cares? Because what's important is the football season is back.
00:00:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it all resumes this week for us. um As I record this, it's going to be on Tuesday. um Tomorrow, as you're going to hear this, or as it goes out, Tuesday 1st of April,

Wolves vs West Ham Preview

00:00:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
7.45. We are up back at Molyneux, back at home against West Ham United.
00:01:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
And gosh, i cannot I just can't wait for the ah regular football to be back because we miss it. Everyone's missed it. It's been boring without it. Let's face it.
00:01:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nothing else, nothing else compares. I won't sing the song that just came to my head as I said that, but you all know it. You're all singing it right now. Anyway, what's been happening while we've been gone? Well, a couple of things of note.

Player Highlights and Achievements

00:01:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
It is just about to turn April and as such, Bellegarde is up for the Premier League Player of the Month for March, remarkably. And it just shows the turn in form that he has had under Vitor Pereira.
00:01:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
it's like It's weird to think that just you know a couple of months ago, most people never wanted to see him in a Wolves shirt, didn't know where he was meant to play, just were really, really fed up with the idea of having Belagard in the team. And now he's arguably considered as one of the first names to be on that team sheet. I mean, he's been...
00:01:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
astronomical in terms of the rejuvenation, the turning form and the way that Vitor is getting the best out of him. um And it just goes to show, as we've said all along, we've said it time and again since the beginning of this podcast last year, last summer, play people in the right positions and just look what happens. they They start to do well. It's not rocket science. You play people round pegs in round holes.
00:02:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, not... Just stop stop putting people in the wrong places and maybe they'll do well. And sure enough, there they are. So yeah, Bellegarde, Player of the Month for March, NOM. If you haven't voted, you can get out there and vote if you want to see him do well.
00:02:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
and But he's doing well for us and that's all that matters. So I'm i'm really chuffed for him. It's a great it's great to see him getting that ah recognition. Let's hope it's not a curse. Like so many people go for the get nominated for these awards.
00:02:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
A bit like when the managers always win manager of the month and then they go on a losing streak. It's just ridiculous. So on the one hand, I'm hoping that doesn't happen. But fair play to Bellegarde, it's nice to see him return to the fold, to the action.
00:03:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
um What else has been going on? Well,

Celebrating Steve Bull's 60th Birthday

00:03:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
of course, we had, and you've probably seen it all over social media, we've had Stevie Bull's 60th birthday as of the 28th of March, and it's just lovely to see all of the, as as someone, I've said it before again, going back through our introductions,
00:03:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
and probably several times during things when we got all nostalgic. I'm of an era where I grew up watching Steve Ball, lucky enough to have grown up and watched him play, Italian 90, watched him play for England, and just be of an age where, you know, seeing someone from the old third division as it was put on the England shirt, I mean, it won't happen again.
00:03:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
For someone in such, you know, in the lower leagues like that to be called up to the national squad and go to World Cup, it's astronomical. And so, yeah, I... am I'm kind of just, yeah, I'm loving all of the love that's going out right now on social media for, what, the 60th.
00:04:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's nice to see, um if you haven't seen it, the little video that the Wolves squad, the Wolves social media team, I should say, puts out for his 60th with a load of ah local celebrities, national celebrities that that love Stevie with a little ode to Bully.
00:04:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
um It's a really nice piece. I really enjoyed it. What I loved, I don't know if anyone, I'm sure not everyone spotted it, but some of you may have. They made that video three minutes and six seconds long in recognition of his 306 goals.
00:04:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
The clock on it is 3.06, which I thought was really sweet and may not be something that everyone spots, but take a look. It's exactly the same number as his goals, which is fantastic. And obviously, for i mean, just take a moment to revel in the fact that, you know,
00:04:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
what makes this player so special, as we mentioned, call it for prison his national team when he was in the lower leagues. ah The only player, I believe, in English football to score... ah Half a century, two seasons on the trot, back to back, which is phenomenal.
00:05:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Obviously, spent his pretty much his in tai well his entire career here after he signed from our lovely neighbours, Albion, early in his career and then never left, had opportunities to go to the Premier League, turned them down, stayed with us, stayed true.
00:05:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
And there won't be players like that. ever again probably because it's the modern game is just so different it's just so different um so an absolute icon and as well as the video i know uh that's um they've also redecorated the tunnel at molyneux you'll see it when the teams go out tomorrow but probably if not before um both part of his birthday shenanigans The tunnel has been redecorated as well as just the normal wolf heads and things all over the place. There's big pictures of Stevie and his heyday all over it. um Really nice, really nice little celebration note there.
00:06:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, yeah, that's all good. um What else has been going on? Well, not a massive great big deal in the international break aside from those two things. So I guess we should look ahead to becoming fixture.
00:06:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
But before we do, let's take a quick break.
00:06:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
So there we have it. Now, as I say, tomorrow we take on West Ham United. um We are currently obviously seventeen in the league.
00:06:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
They

Match Analysis and Strategy Discussion

00:07:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
ironically are 16th, but obviously there is a big points difference between us. However, it would be nice to be able to catch them up a little bit. So it's a good opportunity for us because I think um despite maybe the lack of consistent victories.
00:07:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're all aware that we've been overall, I think, performing better as a unit, better as a squad. um You know, obviously we got the victory. If you look at our last few fixtures, we beat Bournemouth. Obviously we lost to Fulham, but then we drew against Everton and beat Southampton. Like the last five last few of fixtures is actually not bad.
00:07:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
um i think overall the performances have been pretty solid. The Southampton performance, I think we can all agree, It was not, despite the fact ah we got two goals and we got the victory, it wasn't the most thrilling and scintillating performance, but it was a get the job done, get the points that we need to kind of ensure a bit more of that survival, assurance and stability.
00:07:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah And I think there was an element of nervousness. so You could kind of see it of like, OK, we have to come here and get these points. This is a game we have to win. Can't not win here. And there was an element. I think that crept into a little bit of the...
00:08:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah the weight of the performance we saw on the pitch. We've seen much better victories against the likes of Villa and so on, where the team have played far better, far more fluid and exciting football.
00:08:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
This was not an anex exciting game. i think Southampton necessarily also didn't allow it to be an exciting game. You know, they they very much do what they need to do. They get everyone behind the ball and then they pass it around a lot without much, like they as they've been doing all season. They're really good at keeping the ball and passing it around, but without much end product.
00:08:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
And obviously we let them back into it um a little bit sloppily. However, two goals for Larsson. Absolutely thrilled about that. Really chuffed to see him get back on the score sheet. He's been taking a lot of flack.
00:08:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've been kind of defending him here on the pod. i think he's I think he's really good. I think there's a lot more to come from him. um What's that, nine goals in his first Premier League season so far and a couple of assists. i think I think it's his time to shine as we build up towards the end of the season. And next...
00:09:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Particularly, I'm happy to see it without Kunja in the line-up, see him get the goals without Kunja there. I said it on a previous episode, you know, this little stint without Kunja is almost, in some ways, a blessing maybe, ah a silver lining we need because the squad needs to learn to play without him.
00:09:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know, we all know he's probably going to go this summer. Vitor surely knows that. And so this is a chance for Vitor to get his team working without him, get him get them working in a way as a team and and winning without relying on that man.
00:09:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think the Southampton game, whilst the performance wasn't as thrilling, I think you did see them work as a team. The same against Everton. I think they work very much as a team. There was no kind of one starlet that we've seen.
00:09:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
when Kunja's there, because obviously there's a reliance on him. And I'm happy to see that, because I think the performance against Everton, again, was was a solid one. Second half, we could have could have come away with a victory.
00:10:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
But again, Everton are really solid under Moyes. They set up so everyone behind the ball. Second half, we outplayed them, but they just you know they're a good defensive unit now. But it was a good point.
00:10:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think our recent form... has lots of positives. So I'm quietly confident of how we are going into this game. Even without Kunja, I think we're still going to put in a good show, especially now we have that nine point gap ahead of Ipswich.
00:10:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hopefully that alleviates some of the stress and allows them to play with a little bit more freedom. I mean, the goal difference makes it practically 10 points. So i'm I'm hoping for good things.
00:10:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
If we look at West Ham, their last five fixtures, they're a little bit like us in terms of being a little bit up and down. I mean, they lost ah they lost to Brentford, but they beat Arsenal and then they beat Leicester.
00:11:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
They lost to Newcastle and they also drew with Everton 1-1. in their last fixture. So a bit like Wolves, they go and beat the big teams and lose to the lower ones. And I mean, I know Brentford aren't way down there, but you know, it's to think they'd be they lost to Brentford and then go and beat Arsenal the following week. It just goes to show they are a bit topsy-turvy, just like us. And they theyre table ah their position in the table goes to show that too 16th.
00:11:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
so We are on 26 points there and 34. It would be very nice to get the win at home under the lights and close that gap, close it right down and see if we can see, perhaps, if we can go into this final stretch of the season and maybe gain a place or two.
00:11:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know it's more unlikely given that points gap, but if we can go and beat West Ham and close that, narrow that gap on them, given they are also topsy-turvy like us and we've still got ah we've still got a bunch of ah winnable gains ahead of us, then there's nothing to say that we can't go and move a ah a spot at the table. Because after this game, if we go and be we go and beat West Ham, the a game act after we are away to Ipswich, which is a must-win, or at me at least a must-not-lose, just to really put the nail in the coffin on them and take out any, any you know,
00:12:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
morale from them. ah That would be great. And then, you know, that puts us in ah in a fine place. Knowing that in a two or three games time, we've still got the likes of Leicester to play. ah That could be could be ah a good end to the season, I think. It would be a good way to close out the season, see if we can move up a spot out of 17th into at least 16th. I would like that very much.
00:12:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's my... It's been my birthday while we're away. I'd say it's my birthday wish. I'm going make it my birthday wish. i've just had my birthday, so it can be that. All right, let's take one more message, shall we?
00:12:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's just going to be a little ah short episode today to get us, because we're back from the international break and there's not much happened. ah But it's nice to check in with you guys. I'll be right back.
00:13:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:13:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Indeed, gets what get better there if i could talk probably i say get what's right for you. right, guys. um So, yeah, it's going to be a big week. Finally, football is back properly.
00:13:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Two games this week as well, if you think, because the game against Ipswich is on Saturday, the 5th of April. So after no football for about two weeks, we have two games in less than a week, which is amazing. And they're two huge games, really, you think about it.
00:14:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
We can say if we can get that victory against West Ham and go into the Ipswich game, knowing that it's basically all done and dusted, and then just put the nail in the coffin, i will be well happy. And I think we'll all be feeling a lot more optimistic than going into some of the tougher games against the likes Tottenham. Then and we have Manchester United, then Leicester, then Man City, then Brighton, Crystal Palace.
00:14:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then the final day is at home to Brentford at the end of May. We are approaching the end of the football season. And it looks, I mean, not to jinx it, but if we carry on the way we are, it looks with with the recent performances and the recent points, like hopefully next season we'll still be in the Premier League, which we have been all saying we would be, you know, we've been quite optimistic at points this season, saying that we've got the strength, we've got the players.
00:15:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
It just wasn't gelling. And now, you know, Vittles come in with this discipline and hopefully... Hopefully it's starting to come together and I'm excited for what that could mean for the next season.
00:15:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Obviously, so much depends on what happens in the summer, who leaves, who stays.

Speculation on Transfers and Player Changes

00:15:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Obviously, the Larson transfer is now going to be permanent. He's had enough fixtures long ago to make it a permanent deal that will be completed come the summer.
00:15:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But who's going to leave in the summertime? will it be you know that Will Doyle look for a loan or a transfer out if he's not getting game time? I mean, we've seen that recently that he's actually training more as a right midfielder because Vitor said he's not going to get in that that holding two. He doesn't see him as a midfielder in a two.
00:15:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
So he's training more as a right midfielder, which we've seen him come on the last couple of games as a sub and then Moran out on the right-hand side to get good crosses in because he is a great pass to the ball. But will he look for a way out in the summer?
00:15:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Potentially. ah You know, he wants to play. You can see it So Konya, we think, obviously, will go. i mean it's pretty much written in the stars at this point and a lot of um lot of discussion, obviously, about his release contract, which is surely going to get triggered.
00:16:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
But then again, if the big teams can't rely that he's going to play every fixture because he's constantly getting riled up and getting himself suspended, is that good going to put a spanner in the works?
00:16:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know, if I'm looking at spending 60 to 70 million on someone, do I want someone that I can't trust to stay on the pitch for 90 minutes? I don't know, that's a big if.
00:16:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
I still think he'll go somewhere. But it's you know not as maybe rosy as it was a couple of months ago for him. And then obviously we'll have probably more interest in the likes of Ryan Aitnuri and maybe even Hwang Hee Chan.
00:16:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Although, as always, I think the club are kind of always keen to have him in the squad, not just as a good squad player, but we all know the commercial opportunities he brings on top of that. But I do think he is a good squad player, even if he's not starting.
00:17:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know he's a bit of a ah marmite. A lot of people maybe don't value him, but he's always been recognised under every manager as having aspects that they appreciate, whether it's, you know, just the fact that he does, i think, given his his work ethic and his performance ah in training, obviously he sees him get consistent opportunities.
00:17:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
So there's, and other clubs are always interested. So there, whatever we think, there is stuff there that makes him a valuable asset to any Premier League squad, arguably. And I will die on that molehill.
00:17:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
I will die on that molehill.

Match Predictions and Team Spirit

00:17:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
All right, so what do I think for tomorrow? i think I'm going to be optimistic back after the international break, back with more people recovered from injuries.
00:17:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
And also, i think given that we now have that nine point buffer, potentially play with a little bit more expression, ah would like. And I hope that that's what will happen. And on top of that, a nice three points for Willie's birthday.
00:18:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
He said it in one of the videos that he'd love three points for his birthday treat. That's all he asks. So I'm going to go all that and say that we are going to get the win. um And I'm going to say that Agbidou and Totti and Duck have, ah particularly Agbidou and Totti, because they are just astounding together.
00:18:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
are going to have a massive ah performance. So I'm going to say it's clean sheet and it's going to be a 2-0 to Wolves. Yes, baby. Up the Wolves. That's what I say, because just remember, people, out of darkness cometh light.
