Introduction and Co-Hosts

00:00:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello, hello everyone. Welcome in Daily Walls fans. It is I once again at the helm. It is Chris, but I'm not alone this time. This time I've brought my willing compatriots. It is James and Will. I'll start with hello, James.
00:00:23
James
Hello, very happy to be back. Looking forward to the game tomorrow. Yeah, excited to talk about ah lot of a lot of stuff that's going on.

International Break and Club Focus

00:00:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Indeed, the international break is over, Will. It's over.
00:00:37
Will
Yes, yes. As James said, I'm happy to be back. Chris, it feels like it's been ages, you know. ah But Tuchel gave me the call-up, you see, so i've ah I've only just come back.
00:00:48
Will
um
00:00:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
but
00:00:49
Will
And yeah, as we've just said, there's certainly a lot to go through.
00:00:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Indeed. Indeed. um I don't know about you guys. i'm really I didn't even watch the England game, I'll be honest with you. I'm really not fussed. I kind of switch off in the international break and it all just falls by the wayside.
00:01:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm not even going to lie to you all.
00:01:05
Will
yeah Yeah, I know what you mean. The thing for me is, um obviously, I've seen a lot of people talk about Tuchel with being his first sort of games in charge. And but like you yourself, Chris, I've barely watched any of it, if if any. um And I just don't understand how people can can... So, you know, some of the takes I've been seeing quite extreme or quite sort of reactionary considering Tuchel.
00:01:31
Will
the actual games of football that have been played and how, so I don't want to say meaningless or pointless, but you know I mean, they're not they're not exactly big big tests, are they?
00:01:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, indeed.
00:01:43
James
Yeah, yeah um I took a ah little bit of interest in it just because Tuchel's first couple of games, but I didn't watch the full games, I watched highlights.
00:01:54
James
And I mean, it's against teams like Latvia though, I'm not too fussed about what's going on, but it was interesting to see.
00:02:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
no
00:02:01
Will
No.
00:02:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
indeed. Well, I am obviously ah The last episode that went out was me giving some thoughts up ahead of, well, the excitement of the end of the international break, which I've just rejoiced again with you guys because it makes me so happy.
00:02:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
And also the return of, you know, season proper league football. um But I gave some thoughts on the West Ham game, which we're going to get into a bit more, obviously, later in this episode, now that I've got you two here with me to discuss your thoughts on

Yersa Mascara's Contract Extension

00:02:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
that.
00:02:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
But... As we were getting ready for this to this recording, we had breaking news on a new contract extension. ah So Yersa Mascara has extended his stay with Wolves.
00:02:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
A new five-year deal. So that will take the Colombian international up till 2030 with a further 12-month option. And a little quote from Vitor um came out in relation to that because obviously he was started the season and then got that horrific injury.
00:03:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
So hasn't actually been able to play under Vitor, but he's had the contract extension. And Vitor says, I'm very happy because when I started to study the team, Mascara was playing.
00:03:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
He has the profile in a central defender that I like. He's aggressive, strong, fast, good with the ball. And for me, he has all the attributes to help us. I don't have any doubts that he would fit my system.
00:03:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I'll come to you first this time. Will, what do you think of the whole Mascara extension and Vitor's words there?
00:03:30
Will
Yeah, i mean, um it can only be a good thing, really. um
00:03:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:03:35
Will
It feels weird because if you think about it, he's been a Wolves player. for a good sort of three, four years now, I want to say. I might have got that wrong.
00:03:47
Will
and But, you know, he's been here a long while and we've not actually seen a lot of football. So I think, you know, it's just it's just a shame the way the season's gone for him with that injury that you spoke about. And and I do think as well, um in defence of Gary O'Neal, I think it had a massive, massive impact on on you know ah our team and the the way that the season's gone. um But I think, if anything, the main thing is that it protects us a bit, I would imagine, in terms of
00:04:23
Will
You know, if if there were to be a transfer before 2030 for him, it at least gives us that option of you know him having a few years on his contract and to get ah a relatively decent price if he were to move on. um So, yeah, like i said, it it can only be a good thing.
00:04:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I agree. James, what do you make it all?
00:04:48
James
Yeah, I'm very glad. I do think he was that kind of one shining light at the start of very dark period of our season. e Each game you'd watch, you'd kind of highlight him as probably the one player that had a bit bouton at the start the season, including the likes of Kunja, maybe Strand Larson as well.
00:05:06
James
Yeah. So yeah, um'm I'm very glad. i'd I'd love to see how he kind of fits into that three back, obviously taking over Doherty's role.
00:05:17
James
Although Doherty's been fantastic. I mean, he's really filled into role well. But he obviously will be the person taking out. So yeah, it would be very exciting to see and I'm very glad.
00:05:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, i'm I'm almost curious to listen back some of our early episodes at the start of the season. Will or remember that the I think after that first game against Arsenal,
00:05:40
Will
Yeah.
00:05:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
mascara just commenting on how much joy we had from mascara even though we lost him getting stuck in and really riling up um the opposition that day because he's and he almost looked like there was complaints he didn't get a red card because he's just put was he but put his hand on someone's throat at some point when he got up and there was just like yeah go on just get get in there
00:05:47
Will
Yeah,
00:05:56
Will
yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, no, he's certainly got a bit of outing, hasn't he? So, yeah, looking forward to having him back.

Wolves Players in Brazilian National Team

00:06:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah indeed So the um international break, guys, did either of you catch much? I mean, what I do know is James and I were just chatting before we started. i mean, among other things, all three of our Brazilians played for Brazil.
00:06:18
Will
yes yes
00:06:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Three Wolves players playing in the Brazilian its a international side. That's amazing.
00:06:24
James
Yeah, it was amazing, except for when you look at the result. But but i I am glad that the one shining light out of that team was Kunja.
00:06:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, yeah.
00:06:33
James
And he outperformed the likes of Vinny Jr., which, I mean, that's got to add to his price tag a little bit, I'd say. But um ah Andre started as well.
00:06:43
James
I didn't really see much of the game, so I don't know how he played.
00:06:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
you
00:06:48
James
And then know Gio Ghevez came on later in that game.
00:06:49
Will
Yeah.
00:06:52
James
But yeah, the 4-1 loss doesn't kind of show the best the best performance in the world. but
00:07:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah No, I was just going to gloss over that. But just just to to be alive and have three Brazilians playing for Wolves that are in their first team, or at least for now, are in their first team.
00:07:07
Will
yeah
00:07:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just find that quite amazing. I never would have pictured this like 30, 40 years ago. know, it's just crazy.
00:07:18
Will
Yeah, 100%. I mean, um you talk about our midfield too. Yeah, not none both starting, but both playing from Brazil is crazy. But the one thing I have noticed about that, ah don't ask me why, but I ended up on Brazilian Twitter, if you like. And um I've seen, and this has been a few times now, to be fair,
00:07:41
Will
when he's played for Brazil. The general consensus I've got is that they don't particularly rate Jaal. ah That is literally just going off a few comments I've seen. But I've seen it more than once, is my point.
00:07:55
Will
um But, I mean, James, you said that um you know we don't we don't know how exactly they got on. All we know is that Cunha played well.
00:08:06
Will
um I've seen a lot of love for Andre. um But yeah, just not not so much for Zhao, which don't know, find it weird, really. Because, I mean, know about you guys, but I like him.
00:08:19
James
yeah I don't know what kind of...
00:08:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, we yeah, we...
00:08:21
James
position or system they play him in at Brazil I don't watch Brazil enough to kind of know but it would be interesting to kind of dive into that a bit and see what they do do with him
00:08:30
Will
Yeah.
00:08:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
For sure. Although, obviously, more important than that, guys, is what James was telling me about. Fabio, please,

Fabio's Performance and Future Speculation

00:08:38
Will
Yes, yes.
00:08:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
James, expound.
00:08:41
James
yeah so he is sort of he seems to be finding his feet a little bit this season it's definitely not the loan I would have thought would kind of hit the ground running but um maybe Spain is his kind of style and yeah he's he's been playing really well this i I think it might be eight or nine goals throughout the season which I mean stuff it's nothing special but it's this space's better than what we've been getting before but yeah um playing at the Hawthorns again scoring again i mean he obviously has a hatred for the Albion which is
00:09:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:09:21
James
He's 50% there to being a ah Wolves legend.
00:09:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
no ah yeah did you did you enjoy Did you hear, Will, about Fabio scoring at the Hawthorns again?
00:09:32
Will
chris Chris, you know I love him. You know I love him.
00:09:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:09:35
Will
ah you know I ordered the Las Palmas top, actually. didn't.
00:09:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah made me so happy.
00:09:45
Will
It's worth mentioning as well that Carlos Forbes also scored in that game. um I can only get too excited about it as much as I love Fabio because um although I didn't watch, i i you know, you you can't you can't enjoy seeing um
00:10:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
you
00:10:02
Will
England lose, or at least I can't, in anything really. um But no, ah the one thing I did see though, um I did want to point out as well, I don't know if any of you have actually seen Fabio's goal.
00:10:14
Will
And and By all means, it wasn't anything spectacular. But the one thing I noticed was his run and the way he created the space. He got into really good position um in in in the box. If he hadn't had the movement that he had, he wouldn't have scored.
00:10:34
Will
feel like a lot of people won't really notice that or will downplay goals like that.
00:10:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
you
00:10:40
Will
um because they just see it as a sort of, well, a tap-in, essentially. um But yeah, he's certainly having a bit of a breakout season. I've seen of one or two people wanting to give it another go with him, but I think, you know, i think if you love someone, you've got let them go, haven't you? And yeah, like you said, James, I think Spain probably is his...
00:11:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
you
00:11:06
Will
I don't want to say he's level in a demeaning way, but he seems to be enjoying out there and Atletico Maget are interested. So, you know, we'll see how it develops.
00:11:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
i mean, it's a different pace, right, is the biggest factor, surely.
00:11:18
Will
Yeah.
00:11:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's a different pace of game. The game isn't always as fast as the Premier League, maybe, and maybe not quite as, shall I say, rough, is that fair to say?
00:11:29
Will
Yeah.
00:11:29
James
Yeah.
00:11:30
James
yeah
00:11:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
But it definitely has, um and there seems to be a lot more space in general from whenever I've watched Spanish football.
00:11:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm not a Spanish football connoisseur, but whenever I watch it, there just seems to be a lot more space around everyone ah generally. and a different flow to the game. i don't know if that's fair, that's just my general assessment on the bits and pieces that I've seen.
00:11:48
James
Yeah. Well, I think we've seen one of the may ah the main ones would be Anthony going to Real Betis and... kind of flourishing there. And ah I think you're right. Maybe that is because it's kind of less less physical because he's not the biggest of players and suddenly he's getting space to run with the ball.
00:12:06
James
And yeah, maybe that is Fabio's style.
00:12:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah yeah go for it
00:12:12
Will
Sorry, can I just add another thing on the Fabio topic? um not only Not only did he score, but he looked bloody good doing it as well. So i just wanted mention that.
00:12:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
the boy's got style we all know it we're deep down everyone's just jealous clearly um or not uh however on that uh before we move on let's take a quick quick break
00:12:29
Will
Yes.
00:13:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
do it, click the links, they're not all full of viruses. um But Before we move on to the game itself, guys, and some the couple of other points, that and some of these I did mention in my in the last episode that went out, but i'd love I want to get your thoughts, the thoughts of more people, because they're they're pivotal.
00:13:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
The most important one being last week was the 60th birthday of the man, the myth, the legend that is Steve Ball, Wolves, hero, icon, all of those things, and being a...
00:13:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
without doubt the oldest person in our group. um Obviously I have a lot of nostalgic memories about Steve Ball. I grew up watching Steve play. um But I'd like maybe just to see what you guys made of the celebrations that have been out so far. I know there's been like videos posted, there's been all sorts going on and and just also your thoughts, your memories of what means, what Steve means to you in terms of Wolves as Wolves fans.

Celebrating Steve Ball

00:14:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
um not to wax lyrical, but ah James, what have you, any thoughts? Like, did you notice any of it? What do you make of it?
00:14:11
James
Yeah, it was nice seeing and him um at the training ground, all the players kind of respect him and honour him as he deserves to be. i they brought him i think Semedo brought him out a cake, which was a nice touch.
00:14:25
James
um But yeah, it's it has ah he has actually been a big part my kind of wolves wolves but yeah in my Wolves i'd say career, but it's not really my Wolves career.
00:14:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Life?
00:14:39
James
My supporting career, I'll say that.
00:14:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, yeah, okay.
00:14:41
James
but um Yeah, because i've um my first season ticket was in the Steve Bull Upper. So, I mean, it just all stems from there.
00:14:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:14:51
James
um And yeah, he's just, he just seems like an all-round great bloke. Although I've never met the guy. I'd love to meet him. But yeah, it was nice to see that we still honour club legend of ours.
00:15:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I've met him a few times. He's a lovely Will, what does Steve Ball mean to you? Anything?
00:15:12
Will
um Well, the first thing that comes to mind is um and It must have been one of my first Wolves games. I remember being um young and I think I was in the... and I must have been in the family sort of enclosure and he was he was just walking through.
00:15:29
Will
And I remember my dad pointing him out to me and I was i just said, who? You know, i just I just literally just didn't know. And um yeah, so a lot of what I know of him does come from for my dad, obviously, obviously.
00:15:45
Will
I suppose it's more his generation. um But the one thing, Chris, that I did like, that I did notice, um you spoke about sort of the videos that were put out and so on.
00:15:49
James
Thank you.
00:15:56
Will
um i was i was scrolling through my phone and I saw another hero of mine, um Robert Plant, pop up on the centre circle of the Molyneux pitch talking about... um you know, what what he means to him.
00:16:14
Will
And then they did that, I don't know if you call it a montage, but, you know, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:16:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
In the ode to the ode to bully. i um Yeah, yeah.
00:16:21
Will
I thought i thought that was um particularly nice. And i also like, I remember, um videos they put out again about five seasons ago now of him meeting up with Lau when he was at the club.
00:16:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:16:37
Will
And I've seen a similar clip of him chatting with Larsson. I think that's a nice thing. I think that, you know, it's good. Like you said, James, about the sort of... um The respect that seems to be there from the players who, let's face it, so don't really have a clue about, you know, sort of, would say, is you know, it's not as if they grew up watching him.
00:17:02
Will
But it's nice it's nice to see that that sort of spirit sort of, yeah, um keeps keeps going on.
00:17:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and I mean, as the as the older statesman in the group, I touched on it a little bit yesterday, but I think the reason that he um stands out so much as, you know, within our history, within Wolves, and is still within so many of our hearts, even though obviously he's long since retired and just turned 60, is it can't be underestimated that he is hand in hand with a couple of things.
00:17:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
One is like, That spell of getting us out of the fourth division and then back all the way back up to the championship over a series of years from the 80s to the 90s, he was a massive part of that.
00:17:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, the first but the only the only player in English League football history to have two half-century seasons of goals back-to-back, over 50 goals twice in a row.
00:17:58
Will
Mm-hmm.
00:18:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
306 goals over 13 years, had offers to go to Syria and the premiership at different points and turned it all down, stayed with the club that he loved, never left. And I think it's that loyalty and that determination to make the Premier League with his hometown club that he never managed to do, sadly. And he got so all the way up to the Championship in the fourth division. So still was astronomical.
00:18:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
But 306 goals over 13 years, 18 hat-tricks. And in that time, called up to the England squad when he was in the third division of English football, essentially League One, playing in League One when he was called up to the national team because he was scoring over 50 goals a season.
00:18:33
Will
Yeah.
00:18:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's not going to happen again, most likely. it can't imagine it will happen in my lifetime that someone does that.
00:18:41
Will
No.
00:18:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
and And then scoring on his debut against Scotland, making it all the way to the Italian 90 World Cup and playing with the likes of Lineker and Gascoigne at that that level when he was in the lower divisions is just crazy. And so when I was 10 years old in 1990, watching, you know, someone from Wolverhampton from the lower leagues walk out onto the pitch at the World Cup,
00:19:04
Will
Hmm.
00:19:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
it was mind blowing.
00:19:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know, it was like a, it was a whole different level because we were not at the heights we are now, even though we're languishing in the lower part of the league, it's still a completely different level to what we were then.
00:19:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
And so ah can't put into words enough what that meant to people around here at that point in time as well, having been out of the top tiers for so long to see someone that you knew as well was not just a player for your club, but a local player for your club.
00:19:22
Will
Yeah.
00:19:26
Will
Yeah.
00:19:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
doing that to that extreme and having such an impact. um And that loyalty to never leave once he joined us um and staying for 13 years and then then only retiring through injury, I think is why he will, why the 60th birthday celebration has been such a big deal and why he'll stay a massive part of Wolves.
00:19:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
And he does so much since his retirement off the pitch with the Wolves Foundation and various charities as well. So, yeah.
00:19:57
Will
Chris, can can I just ask, because there's nothing I can add to that. That in itself, Chris, was a lovely ode to Bully.
00:20:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
thank
00:20:07
Will
um But can I just ask, does it make it sweeter, all of that, that we got him from the Albion? Or would you rather that he came through the Wolves Academy and, you know, progressed that way?
00:20:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, I think it makes it all, yeah, all the more sweet.
00:20:19
Will
Yeah.
00:20:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Definitely, definitely.
00:20:22
Will
Yeah.
00:20:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know, they say in the um that ode alone, they mentioned that, you know, someone said he didn't have a first touch, but our manager at the time was like, yeah, but he's got a great second touch.
00:20:29
Will
Yes.
00:20:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that's all that's all that mattered, you know?
00:20:33
Will
Yeah. Yeah.
00:20:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Did you notice, by the way, that ode to bully video is three minutes and six seconds long?
00:20:40
Will
No, but that's a nice touch.
00:20:42
James
I didn't spot that. That's that's really nice.
00:20:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, very nice.
00:20:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah. All right, guys um I will drop another... Actually, no, let's um let's touch on a couple of things before we do that. One is, um what did you guys make of Bellegarde? Because I could wax on about bullying the 80s and all that stuff forever.

Bellegarde's Player of the Month Nomination

00:21:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Bellegarde being up for a Player of the Month for the Premiership for March.
00:21:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
James!
00:21:08
James
Yeah, absolutely fully deserved. i It's been said multiple times, but I'm going to say it again. he is like a new signing. And i I have been one of the fans to sign that apology sheet about Bellegarde because i at one point I thought he was dead wood and he needed to go But he's he's proved everyone wrong. He's been the the shining light since kind of Kunja's been out and even before that ah since the Aston Villa game it's just a player rejuvenated and it's just you don't see it very often with a player so low on confidence and the fans I wouldn't say against him but not all for him and how he's turned it around is I think it's remarkable and there's yeah there's always been a player there I think but
00:22:05
James
Now with the confidence in him, I think there's a really serious player there.
00:22:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, what about you, Will? What did you make of the nomination? do you think it's worthy?
00:22:15
Will
Yeah, um I echo a lot of what James said, to be fair. First of all, that's fully deserved. um Second of all, I'm in need of signing that apology form as well, because Chris, I'm sure you'll remember, i was very much one of those fans against him. met And I'm going to, you know, I know we're talking positively, but I don't want to say rightly so.
00:22:40
Will
But yeah, in a weird way, rightly so. was and
00:22:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:22:44
Will
And like you say, it's like a new signing because of the output we've been getting from him. I think it's safe to say that realistically, you know, as much as we could see there's a player in there somewhere, nobody saw this sort of form coming. Nobody, nobody saw of it happening as, you know, to go from, it's not just how well is he is playing now, but it's,
00:23:11
Will
You do have to remember how little we saw of that before. and So, yeah, that change is immense, really. And, you know, hopeful hopefully hopefully it's not just a bit of form.
00:23:24
Will
Hopefully it is a player with confidence back and, you know, he continues to perform. That rhymed.
00:23:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, we've been saying, even when we've been ranting earlier part of the season, i mean, that you just need to keep play people in the right positions and look what can happen.
00:23:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
And so many times under the likes of O'Neill, he was just out on the wing somewhere.
00:23:44
Will
Yeah.
00:23:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Clearly not his... I know he can put a decent cross in, but clearly not his... his home And I know at times, even when he's in central mid, you still see him at times like move around and even go further to the sidelines. But at core, he's playing central mid. And and just playing people in the right spots makes all the difference.
00:24:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
But one of many who, earlier in the season, I vented at you guys on the pod about the fact that I just didn't understand if he was like, there were an empty tv team sheet and you were going to put him down first.
00:24:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
I didn't know where he would go. because we saw so little of him and all we when we did it was just not good. um And after all this time, it turns out, yeah, he's a central midfielder.
00:24:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, yeah, job done. Well done, Bellaguard. I hope it continues. um I'm going to hit the button on ah another quick break and then maybe we'll jump into some thoughts on the West Ham game.
00:25:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
So guys Everyone out there, it's the big, well, after the huge international

Upcoming Match Against West Ham

00:25:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
break, we're back. We're back under the the lights at Molyneux 7.45 on Tuesday against West Ham.
00:25:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
How are we feeling, everyone? What's the vibe like? Are we happy? Are we feeling confident? so James, do you think, like, are you ready? ah you ready?
00:25:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
hang on. We're going to unmute you, James, or can you unmute yourself? something I've lost your sound.
00:25:48
James
Yeah, that is on me. but help and
00:25:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hey! Top notch quality production.
00:25:51
James
I was just saying, um I was just saying, I'm not too positive. I don't want to be kind of the negative light on this podcast, but that Southampton game, although we came through with a win, it was not a good performance. And I think we can all agree on that.
00:26:10
James
So, yeah. we we do need to improve a lot on that game. I think we were much better against Everton the match before that.
00:26:21
James
um So I'm not sure kind of what what went wrong in that Southampton game. But um but also West Ham, they're on mixed form as well. They've only and he had two wins in their last five.
00:26:35
James
um
00:26:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:26:36
James
but I think the main worry i have, and i don't know if you're going to bring this up in a bit, but is Jared Bowen. I think if we can keep him at bay, we have ourselves potentially a win.
00:26:51
James
with I mean, he's six goals in his last 10 games. He's been West Ham's absolute shining light for the past three seasons. And I'm very surprised that big club hasn't really tried to swoop in there and take him yet.
00:27:05
James
But
00:27:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Like you just hear, sorry, all the West Ham fans gasping like, we're we're a big club.
00:27:05
James
Yeah, 16th,
00:27:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
What are you talking about?
00:27:12
James
yeah sixteenth I wouldn't say big club, but um yeah, I don't know. I'd be happy with draw against West Ham because they they have kind of upped their game a little bit since bringing Potter in. So, yeah.
00:27:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, um it's it's weird how they are just one place above us, right? And yet the that points difference gap. But yeah, the consistency for sure is a thing. Will, what about you?
00:27:39
Will
um in know In a sort of rare turn of events, Chris, it sounds like I'm going to be miss Mr Optimism.
00:27:47
Will
um I'm my fairly confident. I think you you look at it, James, you said they'd only won two in the last five and so have we. So it makes for a pleasant change for us to be facing a team that I think are in similar form to us.
00:27:47
James
Ooh.
00:28:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank
00:28:04
Will
Although there are fair few points clear, they are sort of the best of the rest as far as we're concerned. um You know, in our sort of weird limbo that we're in, sort of, you know, clear of the bottom three, I would say, but sort of trailing far behind the rest. um Yeah, i'm I'm quite confident. I think they're a weird team, to be honest. I think yeah we've seen that this season. I mean, like you said, you talk about them up in their game since Potter came in, which isn't wrong, but they are still only...
00:28:40
Will
you know, sixteenth So they can't be that good. And I think, you know, we've had a bit of a break, reset from that Southampton game, a lot of time to prepare. um And look, Jared Bowen hasn't played against Totti Gomez at Molineux yet.
00:28:55
Will
So I'd like to see how well he does there.
00:28:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Whoa.
00:28:57
Will
And I actually ideally think if he does play on that right-hand side, um is this sort of ideal kind of player for Totty to come up against? Because he's not is not particularly fast or particularly strong.
00:29:11
Will
Don't get me wrong, scores goals, but you know I think it will be sound. i am Yeah, I think a solid sort of... ah Chris, I'm going to say it, I think a 2-0, a professional 2-0 win.
00:29:24
James
Wow.
00:29:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh
00:29:25
Will
Yeah, i'm just I just think...
00:29:26
James
maybe now
00:29:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
We didn't even...
00:29:27
Will
i just think They'll be on their jollies. um And we're going to, you know, we've got the home advantage.
00:29:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Jollies.
00:29:36
Will
um Yeah, I don't know. I just fancy us for some reason.
00:29:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, I hear you. I didn't even ask for scorelines yet and you went straight to it.
00:29:45
Will
Sorry, I jumped the gun.
00:29:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
did You did. You're just so excited.
00:29:47
Will
Yeah.
00:29:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
What I will say is, yeah, the Southampton performance, I feel like, um firstly, i'm I'm really happy that Larsson got a couple of goals. um I've been saying for a while he's been getting a lot of flack, and i but I still rate him.
00:30:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think that just hopefully just gives him another boost while Kunja particularly is out the line-up because I do think there's a great a good player there. um i also think it was almost a bit of I know they didn't necessarily play great, but I also feel like it was a little bit of a workman-like victory of like, okay, we've got to go away to Southampton. It's not going to be fun, but we need... But I feel like they they knew they couldn't lose it.
00:30:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Like they had to at least... It's Southampton. They were expected to win and the pressure on keeping the relegated teams down there and just not giving them any hope.
00:30:30
Will
Yeah.
00:30:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I almost feel like it was ah just a ah very tense kind of, right, let's just not lose this. And I feel like that maybe impacted the quality of play we saw because it was just to get the job done kind of thing, um where we've seen a bit more flowing against teams that we're not expected to do anything against. Like when we beat Villa, um the play was far more dynamic, but then we were arguably expected to probably just get battered. um So I'll be interested to see how we do against West Ham. I do. I, like you though, Will, I'm actually feeling pretty confident.
00:31:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
i I'm going to say it, i in my my solo episode recently, i said two nil to wolves as well.
00:31:14
Will
Oh, there we go.
00:31:14
James
wow
00:31:15
Will
great mind Great minds think alike.
00:31:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
They do great ones.
00:31:17
Will
And i also, just whilst you were talking, I had a little sneaky um reminder look at the league table.
00:31:28
Will
um
00:31:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right.
00:31:29
Will
why Why were you giggling then, Chris?
00:31:31
Will
What did did you think I was going to say?
00:31:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nothing?
00:31:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
because you had it Because you had a sneaky? I don't know. I didn't know where you were going with that.
00:31:34
Will
but
00:31:34
James
ah trip
00:31:36
Will
we knew We nearly made it a whole episode without a slight hint of an innuendo. her But no, if, you know, nine points clear from from Ipswich, if we if we were to beat West Ham, that takes us to, you know, five points behind them and 12 points clear.
00:31:58
Will
You know, that's that that would be magical, I think.
00:32:01
James
so many ifs and buts like
00:32:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah i was only laughing as well because i was like there was a slight pause and like come on we can do the math let's do this is math podcast let's go let's go
00:32:10
Will
but i had to I had to have a another look whilst I was saying it because I forgot the numbers.
00:32:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah ah It's only three points at a time, but and it does fry the brain sometimes. um Yeah, i um actually, before we get on to just like what we're talking about in terms of the league, before we finish up, we'll go maybe on to points in the tally and the table and all that kind of stuff. But James, your prediction, we've both said 2-0. Are you going to be the curmudgeon? Are you going to bring us down to a
00:32:39
James
I am going to give you a boring and very realistic 1-1.
00:32:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:32:46
James
i yeah I think it's just going to be one of those games, fairly boring, just like Everton, not much going on, 1-1. wouldn't be upset with the 1-1. I wouldn't be upset with it.
00:32:57
Will
Yeah, i was going to say, I'd take that.
00:32:58
James
ah i'm going yeah
00:32:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
No.
00:32:59
Will
Yeah, 100%. Yeah.
00:33:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. it's definite Don't get me wrong, it's definitely one of those where I'll take a draw, given, like you say, they are kind of reforming a little bit under Posse, and they're still they're up and down. I mean, if you look within those last five games that you mentioned,
00:33:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
They're almost Wolves-like in that they they lost to Brentford, but they beat Arsenal but those within those five as well, which is just really weird to think about.
00:33:24
Will
yeah
00:33:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
um so but And I know Brentford aren't exactly down there, but i just mean you you think about those two scales as very different. So you just never know quite what you're going to get, I feel, with West Ham.
00:33:31
Will
Hmm.
00:33:32
James
Yeah.
00:33:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
I feel like they can turn up and be awful, and they can turn up and be amazing. But that's just... Maybe I'm just being weird. Anyway... and But yeah, so 1-1, I would take a draw, but um I believe, I'm believing, I'm going to, I've been watching, I've been re-watching Ted Lasso getting ready for the fourth season, so I'm going to believe, I'm going to believe people.

Wolves' League Standing and Upcoming Matches

00:33:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But you mentioned ah the nine points clear now, effectively 10 with goal difference, and, you know, we're running out of fixtures for the season.
00:34:02
Will
Mm-hmm.
00:34:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
James, do you think we are safe? And if so, or if not, like what's going to be wouldnt up Would one more wind do it for you? Are you feeling we're done?
00:34:18
James
i um I think I need to keep my mouth shut about this until we're past the Ipswich and Leicester game. when When we get through that, and hopefully if we don't if we get through both of them without losing, I think we'll be okay.
00:34:34
James
But I know we're nine points clear, and a lot of people are kind of saying, we've got one foot in the Premier League next season. and Ipswich just scare me. There's just something about them.
00:34:45
James
that i can I feel like they have they have just enough quality to keep going and kind of kick on just towards the end. um So if we do lose that game, then that could be interesting. I don't think we will, but you know i just don't know. i think we'll be okay, but I don't know.
00:35:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I feel like that Ipswich game, regardless of, to be honest, but backtrack a second first, I haven't got the points tally in front of me, but you mentioned about how that everyone keeps saying Ipswich might are like great and can do it.
00:35:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
They but haven't actually won in how long. Their points are moving really slow.
00:35:23
James
Yeah, you are you are right.
00:35:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, they're going to have to do something astronomical.
00:35:26
James
I think that's my negativity coming in.
00:35:27
Will
Yeah.
00:35:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, they have to do something they've not done all season to catch us, even with only nine points, like to string wins together. Even then, though, I get what you mean. But I feel like if we go to Ipswich, regardless of what happens against West Ham, and i Will, you may or may not agree with me, I feel like if we go to Ipswich and defeat them, surely that's them crushed.
00:35:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's them like morally as well. I mean, like in terms of emotion, surely that is going to be like a nail in the coffin.
00:35:51
Will
yeah
00:35:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
What do you think, Will?
00:35:56
Will
Yeah, and i I would, you know, I'd like to think we are going deliver that nail into the coffin. I think we'll beat West Ham and I think we'll beat Ipswich.
00:36:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:36:08
Will
um I don't know where this competence has come from either, by the way, and but I just think we will because I think if we win, don't get wrong, take a draw against West Ham and beat Ipswich, whatever, but If we get six points from these next two games, that's 12 points almost. you know It's just absolutely massive.
00:36:32
Will
um But I also think after after that, um again, I know we've got tonight's game to focus on and it is one game at a time, but it really will be the nail in the coffin. And I think...
00:36:45
Will
that then is sort of the season over. know that sounds silly, but I think that, yeah, it doesn't it's not going to get any bigger than than than this for us. so um yeah, i think we'll come through it. i think we'll be fine.
00:37:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, six points from the next two, I would take that. And you know what they say, guys? Dreaming is for free. Indeed.
00:37:08
Will
Yes.
00:37:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Anything we didn't cover and before we kind of sign off everyone? Any any final notes?
00:37:16
Will
Is it worth mentioning the whole Cunha scenario, which I dare ah dare say could be a whole episode in its in itself?
00:37:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, you're right.
00:37:21
James
Oh, yeah.
00:37:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
we were right.
00:37:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, you what do you what do you reckon, guys? we can We can, if you want to touch on it now, but we can by all means, diet like
00:37:32
James
I mean, it Will has a point. There is a lot to unpack there. here We could be running over maybe an hour if we start talking about that.
00:37:39
Will
Yeah.
00:37:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I do feel like, okay, so here's what we'll do then. We will go in depth on Kunya maybe later in the week, um but especially if we don't, depending on the West Ham result as well.
00:37:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But let's just say that the the drama doesn't seem to end. How's that? Because it just feels like, is it just me that I'm getting a little bit bored of all the Kunya stuff as well?
00:38:02
Will
Yeah.
00:38:03
James
Yeah.
00:38:03
Will
Yeah.
00:38:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I shouldn't say that, I've been simply just going to talk about it on a podcast.
00:38:04
Will
Although, having said that, yeah, i was...
00:38:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
But you know what I mean? Like, it just feels like he doesn't go away.
00:38:08
Will
yeah Yeah, I was going to say, Chris, we've gone from leaving them on a cliffhanger, you know, treating them mean, keeping them keen, just saying, you know, bored of it.
00:38:21
Will
ah But no, I i do agree.
00:38:22
James
that's
00:38:24
Will
it's it's Yeah, it's getting to the point now. I just want him gone.
00:38:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, people know what we mean.
00:38:28
Will
um
00:38:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
and they want to hear, and plus venting is, you know, sometimes people like to hear a good rant. what going to hope at.
00:38:35
Will
Yes, yes.
00:38:36
James
Yeah.
00:38:36
Will
Well, I like our podcast then, won't I?
00:38:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. All right, then. So I guess as I've demolished the podcast single-handedly in the space at the last minute, I'll sign us off. um But thank you so much, everyone, guys, for joining me. And so I'm not, you know, prattling on on my own.
00:38:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's lovely to have you all with me. And everyone it's great, everyone, to be back. Football is back.
00:38:58
Will
Yes. Yes.
00:38:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's the most important thing. And that just shows us once again that out of darkness cometh light.
00:39:14
James
okay
