EP 143: May Catch Up

Mom Group Chat
Avatar
1.2k Plays3 days ago

This week is a little May catch-up… mixed with a fun audience Q&A.

We’re answering your questions about everything from friendship (including who actually initiated ours 👀) to how we’ve built and maintained close relationships in this season of life. It’s honest, a little nostalgic, and feels like sitting on the couch catching up with friends.

We also share what we’re doing for Mother’s Day this year—what we actually want, what we’ve planned, and how we’re thinking about it differently as moms.

No big theme, no heavy agenda—just a real-life check-in, a little behind-the-scenes of our friendship, and answering what you wanted to know.

In this episode:

  • The origin story of our friendship (and who made the first move)
  • Thoughts on adult friendships and staying connected as moms
  • Your questions, answered—nothing off limits
  • Our Mother’s Day plans this year
  • A casual life catch-up heading into May

Just a light, fun one this week… in case you needed something easy to listen to while folding laundry or driving around with snacks all over your car.

Keep up with the Moms and join the conversation on our socials:

Speaker
There's no right way to do it.
00:00:12
Speaker
Oh, we're going to get into it. What up, moms? This is Whitney Williams, and I'm here with my best friend, Candice, and we're the Mom Group Chat Podcast. Whoop, whoop.
00:00:23
Speaker
How goes it, bro? I'm hungry.

Hangover Tales and Parenting Duties

00:00:28
Speaker
i'm always hungry no I'm like I'm ravenous this morning and it's because I have like the teensiest little hangover from a girl's dinner that I went to last night okay wait wait wait wait tell me everything you ate and what you drank So I had a glass of wine before I left the house because I was doing bath time and bed time or bath time and dinner time with my kids. And I was like, I'm just going to. And I also had an open bottle of white wine in the fridge. So I was like, I'm just going to have a little glass of wine while we do bath time before my dinner. So

Dining Experiences and Food Cravings

00:01:06
Speaker
I had a glass of wine before I left. And then we went to Mad Dogs, which is like one of my favorite places here in Tampa. And mine now. And we. Oh, my Candace said she was going there. I was like. ah
00:01:18
Speaker
I want it. The food is so good. We, for appetizers, we got the pretzel bites and the ah whipped feta, which I don't know if we had that with you. We did not. We got like a sausage roll when we went.
00:01:32
Speaker
They didn't have that this time. i think it was a special. That's scary. Come back. Sausage roll. We had the whipped feta. Oh, it's so good. And then the popcorn chicken bites. Yeah. Yeah.
00:01:47
Speaker
this This place, I feel like when I say those things, it sounds like so like sports bar-y. Think like elevated elevated English pub is like the vibes. well so cute in there.
00:01:58
Speaker
When you were like describing it to me, or you're like, we're going here. I thought, oh, it's like a pub. And then we walked up and it was like ah a very English tavern. Like it was yeah very nice. And the inside so beautiful. The food was so good. i literally am obsessed with it.
00:02:17
Speaker
It is so good. So i for my meal, though, I got the chicken tikka masala because I freaking love it. that it's And I've been craving it.

Pregnancy Cravings and Speculations

00:02:26
Speaker
However, I was trying to like at the table, there were six of us. And at the table, I was like, someone get the steak sandwich. Please, please, someone get the steak sandwich. I was like, please, someone. And no one did. And I was sad because I like really wanted a bite. But low key, I am so hungry right now. I'm like, do i order a steak sandwich for pickup and go pick it up for lunch? wow
00:02:49
Speaker
The fact that you have that at your fingertips. I think you should. It's a sandwich. You could split it. Give Vinny the other half for dinner. Like, I think it's worth it. Honestly, I'm thinking about it. I'm thinking about it. I have had actually I've been meaning to talk about this on the pod. I have had some pretty intense cravings recently to like pregnancy level cravings that have started that like actually freaked me out for a second. I texted Vinny. This was probably about a week ago, about a week ago, week ago. And um I was having the most intense craving for tuna fish. Like not, not, yeah not like sushi tuna. I'm talking like canned tuna fish sandwich.
00:03:43
Speaker
With like pepperoncinis on top, like, like very like briny. I was, i don't know how to explain it. It was so intense. And I was like, I would have done anything for like a really good tuna fish sandwich. And I couldn't stop thinking about it. And I i was like, holy fuck. Am I pregnant? Like what is happening? I've just, I craved that with Alice really bad. Like I wanted tuna my entire pregnancy. And then I got my period two days ago. So I'm not pregnant. wish I could see my jaw on the floor of Candice describing this sandwich that she's craving because it could never be me. Um, I only like,
00:04:29
Speaker
I don't eat tuna fish out of a can, but I've only ever seen my mom like eat it out of a can or put it on a cracker. Like I didn't know you made a whole ass sandwich out of it. Yeah. You like, you know, you make like a tuna salad with like mayo and mustard and like yummy celery and yumminess. And then you put it in between two slices of bread, baby, and you toast it and I Honestly, I could just eat tuna fish for lunch at this point. I thought we were steak sandwich.
00:04:59
Speaker
I know, but that's what I'm saying. I'm just all over the place. I feel like my cravings have been so wild recently to the point where I thought like, am I pregnant? Because the fuck was all of that? i don't normally crave tuna like that. Maybe it's this time year. It was so wild.
00:05:16
Speaker
I don't know. Maybe like, you know, it's getting summery and this is when you, well, I was going say got pregnant, but.

Summer Plans and Family Time

00:05:24
Speaker
It is. Oh, I found out I was pregnant with Evie on June 1st. So if I were, i guess if I were pregnant right now, like if I found out I was pregnant right now, it would be like a month before. Yeah.
00:05:37
Speaker
I can't get pregnant. I can't have another so early spring baby. I can't. Yeah, like I gotta spread it out this time. I need a fall. I need a fall, fall, fall, fall. If you have a Halloween baby, i might murder you. Like, ah the jealousy would be insane.
00:05:53
Speaker
i would be mad, but happy. Like, i you know, I would be really ecstatic, but also I'd kill you. More power to the pregnant people. i am not ready yet.
00:06:05
Speaker
I, I, I see the appeal, but I am not ready yet. not ready but because She was like, Oh my God, I miss wine. And I was like, man, going through another summer, like without a little crisp glass of white wine. I'm like, Ooh, I just remember like my second pregnancy being like, damn, i have to do this again.
00:06:25
Speaker
Not that I'm i addicted to alcohol, but it's just like, oh, the little things in life that bring you joy. Yeah. I don't really need to make this announcement, but like, because I feel like I've already kind of said it a couple times the past like two or three, four episodes, but like I'm in summer mode. Like I have arrived. I am like full.
00:06:47
Speaker
I want to be in the sunshine. I literally am like planning my whole week these days around like going to the pool and like when I can be outside. Like Vinny is taking a half day on Friday because he has PTO that like needs to be used until it renews, like before it renews. And I was like, hell yeah, we're going to skip nap for the girls and we're going to the yacht club as soon as you're off work. And we're going to have chicken tenders by the pool
00:07:16
Speaker
That's all I did last week was chicken tendies by the pool. Sometimes a little grilled cheese. Chris and I split a grouper sandwich. I was like, this is so nice. I had mascara on my nose. Sorry. I was just getting to get it off. I didn't realize. I had a a fried something by the pool.
00:07:39
Speaker
Candace is hungry. I'm so, this whole episode is just going to be like what I'm craving. Have you seen those pregnancy videos where for your entire pregnancy, you just have, it's just video clips of you saying your cravings and people put them all together. And so it's just videos of, of like women. And they're like a tuna fish sandwich, fried chicken tenders from the yacht club by the pool.
00:08:03
Speaker
Taco Bell, Cheesy Gordita Crunch. And it's just a compilation video of all the things that they've craved through their pregnancy.

Childhood Treats and Coffee Obsessions

00:08:09
Speaker
And I think they're so funny because a lot of the times it's like really random things. It'll be like a Cadbury Easter egg.
00:08:18
Speaker
Or you know, like random. They sit in the like ah little aisle right when you're checking out um at the grocery. So it's like, I can see where lure is for those little eggs. I'm like,
00:08:32
Speaker
oh i kind of get it you know yeah my girls love those that's like in their easter basket was like one of their favorite things that all it's like the ones they it's like a chocolate dip do you know what i'm talking about yeah and they have little toys i will never forget like they weren't around when we were little not for me at least and yeah i don't have ashley's friends went to europe and brought them back with her from Europe and Ashley she got two and Ashley gave me one and I thought it was the coolest thing on earth I was like I have this chocolate from Europe and it has a toy inside and I remember it being like a robot and I was like it's a boy toy but it'll do you know and i was just like so into how cool it was and like well I'll never probably see this again and now they're everywhere but yeah I was like this is awesome
00:09:23
Speaker
Yeah. Well, I'm go to try and control my hunger for the rest of this episode. No, don't. You're like bringing me joy. i feel like i um always have cravings even when I'm not pregnant. I feel like the weirdest thing I i was when I was pregnant was like I wanted like warm nuts, like bar nuts with pepper on them specifically. Yeah.
00:09:46
Speaker
that is so random um but i kind of love it it gave it a little kick and it was yummy because they used to have them they would like serve it in rhode island and so i was living there in the beginning when i was pregnant with graden and i was just like i'm making these at home now and so i would make them at home and heat them up in the microwave wow that was crazy oh man yeah can't wait for lunch after this um ah So excited.
00:10:16
Speaker
The one thing that like I crave from Tampa is that steak sandwich. And the one thing that that I miss the most in Rhode Island is chicken salad from Willow Tree. And you can only get it up there. And you they serve it at like the Stop and Shop grocery.
00:10:33
Speaker
God. It's a mass-produced chicken salad. And I don't give a shit. I want it. Yeah. If you find a good chicken salad... It's that's a game. It's a game changer. I like it because there's not crunchy celery. It's like um thin and or like they've like grinded it up so much that it's blended within the chicken salad. So I like it.
00:10:55
Speaker
Yeah. See, I like a little bit of crunch. I don't like celery. So yeah, that that is I don't know something about it. I'm like, I just miss it. I used to eat it on chips every freaking day up there.
00:11:08
Speaker
Oh, my God. I'm like my mouth is watering. Literally.
00:11:15
Speaker
Shout out to my New England peeps that get to eat willow tree every day.

Potty Training and Parenting Humor

00:11:20
Speaker
oh my God. I wish that you just felt my stomach. My stomach just growled loud.
00:11:26
Speaker
I'm sorry. Okay. Wait. Also, this is another like so random update that no one is asking for, but... I have been obsessed with, I know I am so late to the game on this, by the way, but you're actually the one who had me try this first, but I usually don't get them. It's the brown sugar shaken espresso drinks. yeah You had me try that.
00:11:48
Speaker
The airport. Yes. You had me try it. It was was like, these are good. But I kind of fell off it. Like I forgot about it. And then recently i am back on and I have been obsessed and I have been overindulging in it. If you know what I mean, I was getting one like every other day and it's not good, but I started, i figured out how to make it at home and I brew a double Nespresso pod over a double espresso thing over brown sugar and then, an a dash of cinnamon. And then I shake it up and add milk
00:12:21
Speaker
And it tastes exactly like the Starbucks one. And i've been making them at home. ah Thank God to some girl on TikTok who I just happened to come across who was making it at home. And I was like, wow, I have to try this. And it's changed my life. That is interesting. And so you drink it cold.
00:12:39
Speaker
I drink it cold, which I'm normally a hot coffee girl. But I even bought new these new glass coffee cups. Like, iced coffee cups. Oh, pretty. You know, I needed to make a moment out of it. You did. You have to.
00:12:55
Speaker
And it's kind of changed my mornings. I'm not going to lie. I do feel like I have two of them every morning though. So I'm having four shots of espresso and that's probably not great for me, but it's fine. and I like love waking up and thinking I get coffee. Like I get so excited and I truly like I will wait until we're walking out the door for me to make the coffee because if I make it too early, like getting the kids ready, i don't get to enjoy it at all. So I make it and I take it with me in the car and it's just like my 10 minutes with my coffee in the car. I'm so happy.
00:13:30
Speaker
Okay. I like that. That's like how I am. I like to have my coffee in the car and I feel like I get to enjoy it so much more when I'm in the car than I am at home. Cause I'm like running around. Yes.
00:13:42
Speaker
the And then if I'm like feeling risky, sometimes I'll like start to make it and be like, okay, the kids are dressed. They're a little, they're playing. I'm going to make it and have like a little sip at home.
00:13:53
Speaker
Someone poops, Margo poops. Then I have to stop, put it down, change a diaper. And I'm like, no happens every time. That's so funny.
00:14:05
Speaker
Isn't it crazy that your days of changing poopy diapers, they're like, they're on their way out. I know she's, um, she's done good all week. She has peed in the potty at school all day. She's been doing it at home. It's the first thing she wants to do when she wakes up. Poop is still in the diaper. I'm not forcing it. I'm like, I'm not gonna, you know, I'm going to let her keep doing her thing. Um, but she's kind of doing what Graydon was doing, like waiting all day until she gets home because I think they're trying to make her do it at school.
00:14:35
Speaker
So that's fun. It's so funny that in their tiny little brains, they're able to like be strategic about things like that. Like they're literally being strategic about things.
00:14:48
Speaker
when they're going to poop. They're like, I can't do this right now. I got to hold it in. I got to wait till I get home. I can squeeze it out in my dipe. Like, yeah, they just hold it all day and then it becomes a rock. And you're like, dude, I bet that hurt coming out.
00:15:03
Speaker
Oh my God. Evie on Saturday or last Sunday when we were at the that pool day, I told you about she all day by at the pool. She was like poopoo poopy. And I was like, okay, you do you have to go? Like you can go. It's fine. I'll change your diaper, blah, blah, blah. And she would not. She would not go. And I could see her little stomach. It was so hard. Like, we were all talking about how her little round belly looked rock hard. And I was like, this poor girl. I think And Vinny was like, when's the last time she pooped? And I was like, I literally couldn't tell you. I don't know. Like
00:15:38
Speaker
Honestly, that's another thing back to our last episode about second kids. I feel like I always kept track of like poop and pee and like Evie's like when they asked me when last time she pooped, I'm like, I literally gun to my head could not tell you. I don't know.
00:15:53
Speaker
ah It's so true. You're like, I don't know. She was with my mom. I could. ah Yeah, I don't know. Like, I have no idea. I have no idea. Like when I used to pick up Alice from my mom's, if my mom was watching her, I'd be like, what was the give me the four one one. Did she poop? Did she like and I'm like now I'm like, I literally could care less.
00:16:13
Speaker
Same. um But tip, if you're potty training, apple juice, it'll loosen that stool, baby. remember Do you remember when Margo was born and she couldn't poop? She was constipated. So we had a, she was on like a baby laxative for yes i six months, maybe three months. I don't know. Now I can't remember.
00:16:35
Speaker
That was crazy. That is crazy. they were like, once she starts solid, she'll be fine. And then it it was, but I was like, wow. my god Yeah. Baby laxatives. Oh, baby laxatives. Good times, y'all.
00:16:54
Speaker
Good times. um

Listener Questions and Making Connections

00:16:56
Speaker
Today's ep is fun, though, because we got questions from our friends, which I love. who And the questions are like kind of wholesome. I'm not going to lie. They're like about me and you mostly.
00:17:11
Speaker
Yeah, I feel like, well, it's been a while since we've done one of these like question boxes and really this episode, like from a time perspective would normally be our May update, but our past two episodes we've done, we've kind of updated on everything. So um we thought this would be fun to mix in and do a little question box time.
00:17:36
Speaker
Yeah. And normally we get like a ton of questions about the kids and like um maybe our perspective on like how to do things. Like how do you drop a passy? But these are like actually more about us. And it's seriously so cute and sweet. Like this one says, well, okay, we'll start with this one just because we get this a lot. Okay. Yeah.
00:17:59
Speaker
here. It's about a due date group, which we seriously yeah get this question a ton. Yeah, we And it's, how did you find a friend in your due date group? I joined this time and I haven't found my people.
00:18:11
Speaker
Oh, good question. i say you go you got yeah yeah I feel like, I just want to say like, there there could be a possibility that your group is just like not your people and that's okay. I just want to say that. But also i feel like if there is someone that within your group or a couple people within your group that you maybe feel more connected with or like feel more comfortable with, I wouldn't be afraid to like text them on the side and like make a deeper connection even just by like
00:18:50
Speaker
you know, asking about something more personal or, you know, like, for example, like if you have a mom that you feel like a little more connected to or something in your group, you could, and they have in the past be like, oh, I'm feeling anxious about whatever, like text them on the side and be like, hey, I was thinking about you. How how have you been feeling? Like, I know you were feeling really anxious about something. Even just doing that just kind of like makes a deeper connection.
00:19:17
Speaker
um And I will also say, I feel like if you, I don't know where, like what stage you're at in this like due date group journey. I feel like they start out so large. It is so many girls and so many moms and it can be hard to like, I don't know, find your place in the group or like find connection. And yeah,
00:19:41
Speaker
so I don't know. My advice is to like stick it out, try and make an effort to like make a deeper connection. But also in the same vein, if like you feel like maybe these just aren't your women, like feel free to search for some like a newer group like that ah maybe like fits your vibe more or aligns more with your thoughts, your beliefs, your vibe. I don't know. Like you just kind of have to suss it out.
00:20:08
Speaker
I don't know. That was perfect advice. and The only thing I would add is like, yeah, they they can also start out a little slow. And then when everyone starts having babies and you're all going through the same thing month by month, you're literally in the trenches it really starts to pop off because you're just asking questions. You're like, oh my gosh, my baby's like spitting up in the night. Is this normal? And then more people chime in or like, oh my gosh, I'm starting to sleep train as anyone else. And so same vein, we also like started following each other on Instagram. Like we all dropped our handles and then you kind of learn who you have stuff in common with. And then you can start DMing and being like,
00:20:51
Speaker
Oh, we went to, we went apple picking last weekend. Like it was so fun as a mom for the first time. Like you just find more things in common. Um, totally that's are started out big and, and it's obviously dwindled just as they get older. You don't have as many questions, but you still like find those moms because there's like nothing more, I don't know,
00:21:17
Speaker
I don't know. ah What's the word? Like validating And like having someone that is in the same like month within the same week of having a baby as you. Like you are literally step by step with this person. um And if there's nothing like more relatable.
00:21:35
Speaker
Yeah. And I feel like your mental loads are like in the same place. Whereas like, yes, of course, do I have friends that are moms that are like a little bit ahead of me? But if I had a newborn, it would be like, oh, I don't even remember. Like if I were to ask them a question, they would be like, I don't even remember. Sorry. so to be in the same like place and dealing with the exact same things at the same time, like it really is game changing. I know I'm starting to feel that way. Like when people are asking about dropping passies, I'm like, oh my gosh, that feels like so long ago to me now because Margo didn't take one. So like I kind of skipped that with her.
00:22:12
Speaker
But now with Graydon dropping it two years ago, I'm like, oh my gosh. ah don't yeah remember All I remember is SOS PTSD. Get me out of here.
00:22:24
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah.

Friendship Memories and Evolution

00:22:27
Speaker
Okay. That was a good question. um This one is really cute. What is your favorite memory of each other?
00:22:39
Speaker
this is hard. Candice doesn't let me tell these memories. ah Well, most of the time they aren't shining me in the best light. Okay.
00:22:49
Speaker
She doesn't like it when I tell. favorite things about her. Well, it depends. Which one? i think we've already talked about them. um i know i One popped up on my Facebook the other day. i wouldn't say it's a favorite, but it's like...
00:23:10
Speaker
Like my heart is racing. hey can oh my gosh. It just popped up on Facebook and it just like reminds me why I love you. And it was the night we were at a date party and Chris and I left early and you were like, oh my God, you left. blah blah blah and I don't even remember what happened but I like screenshot the text thread and and like the next morning you woke up and you sent me an apology and you're like sorry I made out with your hand last night like just
00:23:44
Speaker
That one's fine. That one's so funny. That one is so funny. I probably did make out with your hand because I'll make out with anything that looks at me back in college. a be Which is not my favorite memory, but it's like the little things like that. Like Candace was always my story time still to this day. Like, I don't know. We've always just...
00:24:07
Speaker
that's so much fun together yeah we have so much fun together and i'm like so i cherish those college memories like so much they are so special to me even if i was a fucking wild rat i don't know
00:24:27
Speaker
what's my favorite memory who knows
00:24:33
Speaker
We've spent, ah how long have we known each other? i mean, too long. no I'm just kidding. um Honestly, okay, I'm going go. I don't know that I've ever said this one. And this isn't like, I feel like it's hard to pick a favorite, right? yeah but i love every single time I have spent 4th of July with you. So that's the two times that like really stick out in my brain are your lake house in college. And like, we dress up like redneck. yeah Like, uh, that was like the theme and and just had the best day of our lives. yeah Um, and then in Rhode Island, like spending 4th of July with you in Rhode Island, like truly Vinny and I still talk about that trip and how it was just such a,
00:25:20
Speaker
amazing like pre-child trip like we were so young and free and dual income and like I just it was so fun we like went on a did we go on a sailboat no yeah we went on a oh we did we did done and and oh my god it was so I was looking gorgeous Same. like a Yeah. Like every time I look back at the photos of us, other than the one on the rooftop bar after, because like Candy Mama had arrived at that point. But-
00:25:53
Speaker
Other than that, like I look back on that on that those that trip and like those memories like so fondly, fondly. God, it makes me tingle thinking about the summers in Rhode Island. Like I know you feel that way about New York too. Just like there's nothing better than being up there in the summer. But yeah.
00:26:13
Speaker
Oh my God. It made me almost almost want to cry. Just think that was like every weekend for me. Like it felt like that. We took the Newport ferry down from Providence down to Newport and we actually stopped at Bristol in Bristol to drop off people. Cause that is the biggest 4th of July parade in I think America. They like literally paint the lines that red, white, and blue. So I remember dropping people off there like hordes of people were getting off. And then we continued on to and oh, it is just so fun. and then we Ubered home and Candace and I passed out in the backseat.
00:26:51
Speaker
It was so fun i just love that trip so much. Like for real, actually, that needs to happen like next year or the year after or something. I want to do a couples trip with you and Chris and me and Vinny, just no kids. It's just me and Chris.
00:27:07
Speaker
yes Oh, me? But you know what I mean. I mean, me and Vinny, you and Chris and go back to Rhode Island for 4th of July. kids. I literally voice noted Jane, who's like my best friend that lives there. She's from there. um Lucky. and i don't know I was like driving yesterday with my windows down and it was just giving vibes because it was like 70 and I was like oh no I am getting the itch like really really bad to come up there and I'm supposed to go in June for work but her daughter's turning two in July so I'm like I want to go back then we want to go to Nantucket so I'm like dude I think I might be just coming up there
00:27:48
Speaker
A lot. I can't help it. You're like, actually, I'll just move. It's fine. I was like, what? You know, Graydon's turning five um this year. And that means I've moved back home. And it's been five years since I left. And i'm like, how has time flown?
00:28:07
Speaker
Yeah, that's crazy. I'm like, how have I been here this long? Anyway, crazy. amazing That's my fave. I love 4th of July. i actually was doing some 4th of July ah shopping today that I found some cute stuff.
00:28:24
Speaker
Candice, you cannot pry me away from 4th of July shopping. It's all I look for. you it's It's not anything like super, super cute, but it's like this cute little striped for It's from H&M. It's a little dress and it has a little, it's a blue and white striped. Oh, did you lose me?
00:28:42
Speaker
No. In my back. Okay. It's a striped dress and it has a little anchor. It's so cute and just like classic. Nothing better. Oh, this is like a good follow-up. How do you two continue to stay so close when you don't see each other often?
00:28:58
Speaker
We just stay yapping, you know? That's it. Um, um I, Candace is like the friend to me that I just like look forward to talking to voice noting, seeing in person, like,
00:29:18
Speaker
It is literally like nothing could pry me away from you. I literally think about my bachelorette, like going on my bachelorette and you had moved to New York and I hadn't seen you in like a bit.
00:29:32
Speaker
And I remember being the most excited about you, like for my bachelorette. That makes me so happy. I feel the same way. yeah You just, we just like, our friendship is so deep and like,
00:29:48
Speaker
it's just so rooted in my life that like, I just cannot even fathom a world where we're not close anymore. Like, you know, that, that question of like, how do y'all stay so close? It's like, there's no other choice. Like, you know what I mean? yeah So we've always, we've always,
00:30:04
Speaker
I don't know, texted, talked on the phone. was going to And even if don't know. Of course there will be days where we like, you know, go a couple days without chatting. And instantly I'm like, hi, I miss you. Like, what's new? Tell me everything. It's like a craving. Yeah, we're just sending voice notes back and forth constantly. So Yeah, we that's it. we beat We be talking a lot and we have the podcast where we like see each other weekly. So that happens usually. um i don't know. We've just always talked and it helps too. I think that we're just like in step with the phases of life we're in Yeah. um I don't know. Just like having kids around the same time, et cetera. yeah.
00:30:49
Speaker
It just worked out. Yeah. Worked out for us. ah Yeah. you You're not getting rid of me anytime soon. and Okay. Who had kids first?
00:31:01
Speaker
Me. Whitney. When that wasn't on my bingo card. I feel like I probably wanted them first, but you ended up getting pregnant and having them first. You always wanted kids. I was going to say, that's just like always like i I'm one of those girls that was like I was born to be a mom and i like have wanted kids since the beginning of time.
00:31:28
Speaker
And then Chris and I decided we should start a family. boom
00:31:38
Speaker
It was actually, I think we've talked about it, but me, Candice and Shannon literally like witches pregnancy packed. It was at Candice's. It was like a pre party.
00:31:50
Speaker
And we talked about it on the couch. I just remember talking about on the couch and I was like, y'all, well, don't know, maybe y'all brought it up. And I was like, we're going to start trying when I get home from Candace's wedding. And Shannon was like, I'm going to start trying after my 30th. And then you're like, I'm going to start after my wedding. And then it was just like, boom, boom, boom.
00:32:09
Speaker
it Literally, we all shook hands and it was like pregnancy pack activated. And then it all happened. Like, it was so crazy. And I literally like got pregnant the day I got home from Candace's wedding.
00:32:23
Speaker
Mm-hmm. I'm a witch. I, like, cast a spell on you. Every time you're around me, you get pregnant after. Well, not now, because yeah now chris Chris is... Yeah, but before that, every time you came around me, Chris was nervous. He was like, oh, man.
00:32:43
Speaker
I mean, every time. Last time we were with Candice and Vinny, pregnant Margo. Like,

Childcare Options and Personal Choices

00:32:48
Speaker
what is that? You just bring out the best in me. I do. I get you all ready to go. I get you all primed. I'm like hyped up and excited. I'm like, ah!
00:33:02
Speaker
Every time. So funny. Oh, here's um what's your thoughts on nanny versus daycare versus stay at home mom.
00:33:14
Speaker
Oh, I mean, i feel like it's such a personal decision and like you have to find what fits with your family. i think that there, I know that this has been like a core saying of the show, but it's so true in this, in regards to this topic, but like there's no right way to do it or no single way that's better than others. I think there are pros and cons to every childcare situation.
00:33:41
Speaker
um And so it just, I feel like, I don't know. and That's really all have to say about it. I mean, I have never been a stay-at-home mom, but yeah I have tried nanny and I've done daycare and I just feel like there's this huge stigma against daycare. And um that was just like, like totally blown away for me whenever I started having kids. I always thought like I wanted to be a stay-at-home mom. And then I realized like, this is really hard. Yeah.
00:34:14
Speaker
When I was in like the postpartum period and then I felt like nanny was hard too. It was all like you said perspective. um I just loved the, I love the right reliability of daycare. So that's like why I chose that route. And Now that they're older, like, oh my gosh, daycare is so hard in the beginning. They get so sick all the time. Yeah. um But now that they're older and that they have friends and they learn so much, it's just like, I don't know.
00:34:42
Speaker
I think it's like a good thing around two. Yeah. course, some people have to start earlier, but I think it just is great all around. um And stay at home mom, like if you're in a financial situation or maybe that's just like what you chose as a family, like, hell yeah. Yeah.
00:34:58
Speaker
I know. It's like more power to you if you do that or can do that. Like i I know we've gotten messages still to this day about like missing Shannon's stay at home mom perspective on this show. And we always, always will miss that. And if you go back to listen to episodes with Shannon, I feel like she offers so many good, like not like thoughts and nuggets and, you know, all the things. um
00:35:29
Speaker
But stay home moms are bad asses and like y'all are amazing. Um, and working moms and are amazing too. It's like every, everyone is welcome here. Everyone is validated. Like, and I really don't mean that in a way of like trying to dodge a question, but I just feel like whatever fits for your family is the right yeah thing, you know? Exactly. Okay.
00:35:55
Speaker
Who was the one that initiated your friendship?
00:36:00
Speaker
Candace, I think. I feel like, I mean, i feel like I, in like, extended the first hand with my homecoming dress. Yeah. Like, she, I guess you had become friends with Desi, my roommate. Yeah.
00:36:18
Speaker
as you all know, I'm outgoing, but takes me a second. um Yeah, yeah. And her roommate, mine too, Des, was just, like, super outgoing. I'm very drawn to outgoing people because it It takes the pressure off me. Yeah.
00:36:35
Speaker
And so I was super drawn to her. Candace happened to be her roommate and in the same sorority. And I just remember going into their room and Candace, I was like talking about going to homecoming with my high school boyfriend because I'm a loser. And, um She was like, you want to borrow this dress? And I was just like, wow, that is the nicest thing. Like she doesn't even know me. And i mean, this homecoming dance is probably in September, or October. I'm like, we'd been in college for a month or two. and i thought that was like so nice. She gave the dress off her back for me to take home to my hometown. i was like, that's crazy. I just remember thinking it was so nice of you. Okay.
00:37:16
Speaker
Can I tell you that that red dress is a dress that I wish more than anything I had kept on to, like I had held on to. It was so classic and like I feel like would still be beautiful today or like to pass down to my girls. I am not a keeper of things. Like I'm not sentimental. And so I, to be honest, am just usually like get rid of things. yeah But I think about that red dress like once a quarter of how I wish I had it. I wore it to my graduation party.
00:37:47
Speaker
Like I, that dress was just like classic red dress. I'm like, oh, oh my God. and And it was so tiny. Um, yeah, I mean, my, my ass ain't fitting in there that right now, but like it would have been cool to pass to my girls or something. You know, and in classic, like, what year was it? 2009? I remember I pinned my hair back with a peacock feather. What the fuck? Of course. What the fuck?
00:38:17
Speaker
Oh, my God. And, like, eight-inch heels. Get out of here. Homecoming dance. I'm literally dead. It is a red dress with a green and blue peacock feather.
00:38:30
Speaker
Oh my God. That is so funny. Holy shit. Black stiletto BB pumps. Oh

Mother's Day Plans and Conclusion

00:38:36
Speaker
my god That is so funny. oh So anyways, yeah, I think I probably, but then after that it was like, we were lockstep and then we lived together the next year. So. Oh, best decision of my life. ah Yeah. So we lived together. in Our apartment.
00:38:56
Speaker
Yeah, that was so fun. um Oh, my God. I forgot to tell you. i was like randomly looking through. this is probably why I saw that picture. um it was a god an old Facebook Messenger thread of us four talking about setting up our apartment at the Woodlands.
00:39:18
Speaker
And it's all of us chatting about what we're bringing. And it was like, I'll get the utensils and plates and I'll bring the pillows and this. And it was just so funny. It's like four months till we live together. so that's so cute. You've got, you've probably, so you might still have it, but i mean, i went back and I was reading through it. I'm like, this is so funny.
00:39:41
Speaker
oh my gosh. That's hilarious. Wow. Okay. I'll have to go and see if I can find that. I would love to read through it. Too good. Okay. Let's just do maybe one more question.
00:39:54
Speaker
Okay. um Did you solidify your Mother's Day plan? I did. I sent Vinny a whole note. Oh, no way. hello i didn Hell yeah, I did. did.
00:40:06
Speaker
Do tell. Okay. Let me pull it up. um We have not. I'll start. um We have not, but um I'm also going to Charleston that day. So I said, if we are doing anything, I know we have a little baseball game on Saturday. But i was like, if we're doing anything, we got to do it Saturday. And honestly, I kind of feel like I want to go back to Cheekwood and walk around. It's so fun. beautiful And they just put a new coffee shop that is like a fancy well-to-do shop around here. It's called Perrin. They have one in Franklin and they just put one in Cheekwood and it sounds so cute. But last year, Chris, we did the Cheekwood thing, I think, with Cassie and Josh.
00:40:55
Speaker
it was really cute.
00:40:58
Speaker
Oh my god, where's my note? Well, he deleted it. Hold on. said we're not doing this.
00:41:05
Speaker
We ain't doing it. oh Okay, okay, okay, okay. I got it. I got it back. Okay. This is what I said to him. I said, I would love to sleep in, but realistically, I know that that's not probably going to happen. It's just not. So I want to wake up and I want to have coffee and I want him and the girls to make me breakfast. I am not involved in making breakfast. I get to sit my ass on the couch and drink my coffee they're in charge of breakfast. Okay. And I said to him, I do not care if you go out and get it or you make it. I do not care. I just don't want to be involved.
00:41:41
Speaker
Okay. And then i want him to take the girls to swim by himself. We have swim at 10 and 1030. So he's going to take them. And that way I get ah an hour or two alone. Okay. And then we come home. We have some family time. We go out to lunch, a fun lunch in Hyde Park or like somewhere fun. I just want to go to lunch, a cute lunch somewhere.
00:42:07
Speaker
We come home, the girls are going to nap like they always do. And then for dinner, I want cheese and charcuterie. But I want to shop for it by myself. I want to go to Fresh Market and to Trader Joe's and I want to shop for it by myself. So while the girls nap I'm going to half rest, half shop for the cheese and charcuterie night because I love to do that. I love to go and get all the things and pick what I want on the board. And then i want to eat outside on our back porch with wine while the girls play outside. And I want to eat cheese and charcuterie and drink wine on the back porch for dinner.
00:42:48
Speaker
This sounds great. And then I also said that I want flowers. I said, I want flowers and a card and I want you to make time to make time to have the girls make me a card. I think it's important that they see you doing those things for me. That's literally what I said to him. And then, and then he responded and said, give me some time next weekend. Then with them, we also have video content. I took from last weekend when you were gone, see, I'm listening. Oh, Because I had said to him, because I made him that Father's Day video last year of interviewing the girls for Father's Day.
00:43:25
Speaker
And I had made a comment to him about how like I feel sad that I'll never get a video like that. Yeah. And so he apparently, while I was gone last weekend when I was in New York, he took video of the girls interviewing them. He says he needs to help editing, which I understand. So I will edit it. But he was like, I have video content. And I was like, that's good, Vinny.
00:43:48
Speaker
And good for you. did a Your day sounds great. I hope that works out. Y'all, and I know that that's so sad. Like the bars in hell, the fact that I have to be that explicit about exactly how I want to the day to go. But genuinely, that is the only day I will have the, that's the only way I will have the Mother's Day that I want is if I am that explicit. And that's sad, but it's just the way it is.
00:44:12
Speaker
You're so funny. The bar is in hell. The bar is in hell. Oh, I love it. um That cracked me up and it sounds fab. um Okay. Tell me about your day.
00:44:26
Speaker
ah i guess you did. Nothing. I mean, and just cheek what I'm hoping. And then when they nap, like I would just love to sneak away and shop for a second and then I'm good. Like, honestly, a little wine on the back porch. Are you doing this Saturday or Sunday?
00:44:40
Speaker
Sunday. Okay. I'd have to do it Saturday, but. That sounds... That's okay. Like a good day to me. ah Like a crisp glass of wine on the back porch while the kids play outside. I may even buy a new outdoor toy just so that I really get... You know when you buy a new one and then they're really...
00:45:00
Speaker
yeah I've been eyeing this... um It's kind of like a slip and slide, but the top of it is like a ramp. So it's almost like a slide, slip and slide. I'll have to send it to you. I've been eyeing it. Yeah, send it to me because that sounds good.
00:45:16
Speaker
Yeah. um and The only thing I'm a little different on is I want Krista Grill. Like I want a burger with corn and mac and cheese. Yes, corn, our corn queen.
00:45:28
Speaker
It's corn season. Can't wait. It's corn season, y'all. Just come. oh That should be the title of this episode. It's corn season, y'all.
00:45:40
Speaker
ah um Okay, that sounds beautiful. I feel like we're going to have the best Mother's Day ever. yeah One can only hope. Yeah, can't complain yet.
00:45:52
Speaker
Maybe later. Yeah. I do need to like make some effort this week to... think about mother's day gifts for just, I always buy mother's day gifts for like my mom and in laws, you know, and I need to, so yeah I usually do something like homemade that the girls do. I need to figure that out. Love it.
00:46:12
Speaker
Yeah. Okay. Well, thanks guys. This was fun. Thanks for asking questions. And, um, we do these like every six months. I feel like where are we getting questions peppered in? So that was fun.
00:46:26
Speaker
