Office Romance

It's a 2026 Netflix original baby!! Join Emma and Katie as they dive into the (allegedly not thoroughly researched) airplane airline company Air Cruz. It's run by Ms Jersey Girl herself, Jennifer Lopez and is lawyered by the grumpily charming Brett Goldstein. Get ready friends because this cast is STACKED. It should be said there is a small content warning for this episode: the word c$$t is used religiously by our fabulous hostesses (hey, it's not a bad word in England!) So strap into your cruz 1, put those tray tables away and enjoy the flight!

Transcript

Speaker: to it. Maybe there's a cat in here. Maybe that's what it was. Maybe a cat snuck in. Or a ghost cat. I don't think I'm allergic to ghost cats because they don't have dander.

Speaker: It's ghost dander. They have um they have um um um portoplasm instead of dander. I was trying to think of the word.

Speaker: I was like, I know it starts with a P and I know it's not placenta. Yeah, me too. I was right there. mean, I wasn't, I didn't think it was placenta for a second, but.

Speaker: Ghost placenta. Yeah, that's, that's it. We could name this episode ghost placenta if we wanted to, I guess. Ghost placenta, baby. ah How are you?

Speaker: Oh, fine. it's Yeah. Yeah. cold here it's been raining for weeks um it's weird i don't know if i texted you this uh if i asked you this have you watched project hail maria oh yeah yeah i saw it theaters oh okay charlie and i watched it on saturday yeah it's delightful it's delightful it destroyed in fact i think i told you about it on this podcast probably probably i'll go back about 10 episodes yeah

Speaker: I was like such a mess. I'll text you a picture of me after the ending credits of Project Hail Mary because i was destroyed. Wow. I don't know if it affected me. I mean, I probably had like the you maybe be like I got teary for sure, but I don't think I like I didn't ugly cry at that movie. Oh, I ugly cried. But I mean, i it's great. I love that movie.

Speaker: um Oh, dear.

Speaker: Oh, yeah. I was um just destroyed. Yeah. ah But like with everything being so cold, I'm just constantly like, oh, my God, are there little spots that are taking out the sun?

Speaker: um Maybe. Is it always is a cold and there, too? Yeah, it's rainy and cold. It was like all rainy all yesterday. um Luckily, I lucked out because like I went into the city, humble brag.

Speaker: The city. The city to get some new headshots yesterday. a Shout out to Yellow Belly Photography Studios. um They were fabulous and amazing.

Speaker: was in Brooklyn. And um it was just muggy and gross until I was on the train ride back. And then, oh, Katie, it was the most magical train ride back, with the exception of the fact that it was a patched train and I didn't have both seats to myself.

Speaker: um And I had all my crap just piled on me. But I was just, it was raining and um it was like dark and rainy. And I was listening to folklore ah and i just sort of like put my head against the window and I just like dozed off. And I was like, this is the best train nap of all time. That's nice. Yeah, it was so nice and magical. Like, that's what you want.

Speaker: Yeah, yeah, that's ah that's yeah that's the the the Connecticut life, isn't it? Yeah, I mean, it would have been better with a pillow, but ah Sure, sure, sure, sure, yeah. Yeah, um but, you know, it is what it is. The ambiance was there. But yeah, here we are on this... I don't know if Charlie's going to wake up in time to tell you, but um he would like to wish you a very happy hump day eve.

Speaker: And I would like to wish him a very ah happy, I hope Ghana wins today. He might be rooting for that. Wait, are they playing England? Yes. They are playing England. Ah, he's thinking about going into the city for the match on Saturday. And I'm like, you should absolutely do that. And I'm so bummed that I have to work and I can't go. Are they playing in New York? They're playing in New York. Square Garden or something?

Speaker: I think it's, I want it, maybe it's Citi Field. I don't know. It's, I think, because you have to go, it's like New York, New Jersey. um So like, whatever. Oh, it's probably where the, um I mean, there's a there's a New York soccer team. It's probably wherever they play, yeah.

Speaker: Yeah, yeah. um But he's just like, yeah, I might just like go in. And thank God for that. him I'm actually kind of surprised.

Speaker: There's a ton of European, Chicago is crawling with Europeans yeah because they're, they're making, they're making a a trip of it. Like all these people are coming to watch the world cup and they're like, well, why don't we just go to Chicago too? Because it's the best city in the country. Yeah. And yeah ah it's, it's very funny. You see them like, like you can spot them with their little, their little kits on. yeah Their little hats. They all bucket hats.

Speaker: yeah Little bucket hats and... I mean, I'm not on social media anymore, but from what I understand, there's lots of great videos of of Europeans encountering American food for the first time. yeah Oh my God. Apparently, like, they've had to make announcements of, like, you can't bring this amount of ranch in a carry-on. Oh, Europeans are falling in love with ranch and trying to bring it back to Europe? Yeah!

Speaker: um But like I got off the train yesterday and there was just a swarms of Norwegian flags everywhere. And i was just like, why are there so many Norwegians in New York today? And I texted Charlie and I was like, is Norway playing? He was like, yeah.

Speaker: Do you see Norwegians? Oh, they were playing in New York? Yeah. Yeah. i was like, they're everywhere. so many Norwegians. i um But yeah, that's the...

Speaker: That's about all I know about the World Cup. Yeah, it's it's very delightful. Like, it's I think the only reason that you should be back on social media is just to watch these videos of Europeans like encountering American culture for the first time. Because and I mean, I think I've said it on this podcast, but I saw a TikTok that was like.

Speaker: The World Cup didn't need America. But America needed the World Cup. Yeah. Sort of give us faith back in humanity. Well, I mean, at the very least, it's just like just like any kind of travel. It reminds you that, you know, the countries are monoliths and the people in the country can be good, even if their leaders are terrible and resigned.

Speaker: Ha ha ha ha. Ha ha ha ha. And let not all of our culture. Fuck you, Keir Starmer. let rose trying say Yeah. He's gone. He resigned yesterday.

Speaker: I know that's that was the reference I was making. Oh, it's going to be really sad because the guy who did it the impression of him on SNL UK was really great. And I'm going to miss that. That's all going to miss about his sure prime ministership is the guy making fun of him on SNL.

Speaker: um Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it led especially in these times where, you know... oh We may have terrible leaders ah ah who, ah you know, may or may not be evil and allegedly trying to destroy the world. See how I used non-definitive language there, Charlie? um It is good to remind people that, you know. People who live in other countries are probably just the same as you and they hate their leader as much as you do. so Exactly. And not everything about your culture is garbage. I mean, a lot of it is garbage because what they're really enjoying is um the all-you-can-eat buffets and chips and salsa at Tex-Mex restaurants and free refills and free ice and AC and ranch. There's nothing wrong with air conditioning and chips and salsa. Two of the greatest inventions...

Speaker: Not sure if either of those... I don't think either of those things were invented in America, but... Nope. No, but they they... Boy, oh boy, were they... Perfected. Perfected. I don't know. I think Mexico might have perfected chips and salsa, but air conditioning definitely perfected.

Speaker: Yeah, I i mean... America perfected ah bottomless appetizers well as whole. Bottomless appetizers. And free refills on sodas. Yes, yes. There's just like all of these like Germans and like French and like just all these Europeans at a restaurant being like, I can have how many Coca-Colas?

Speaker: I can have all of the Coca-Colas? Yeah, because they're not individually served in little glass bottles here. Yes. They're just out of a fountain. Yeah.

Speaker: A magical fountain. Yes. Magical, magical fountain. um i have a book recommendation before we get into it. um Have you read House in the Cerulean Sea?

Speaker: No, but I've heard really good things about it. Yeah. It's so sweet. We read it for my book club. um It's so sweet. is your sci-fi book club, right? sweet ah Fantasy book club.

Speaker: I'm so sorry. It's fantasy, not sci-fi. i don't like a lot of things about sci-fi because there's too much math in it. But I do enjoy Doctor Who and Project Hail Mary.

Speaker: ah But don't like anything about the math. I think if the sci-fi is making you do the math, that's probably not a great... That's not a great... You shouldn't be making the reader do the math. Do the math for the reader.

Speaker: Yeah, but I mean, at the same time, like, can see Charlie enjoying that because he really enjoys. Like, there's a show in the UK called Ada 10 Cats Does Countdown, which is a combination of two shows. Yeah, I know what it Okay. It's like British panel shows for the audience, Yeah, a British panel Countdown is a math game show, which...

Speaker: I wonder why that hasn't caught on in America. Right? And they just have a bunch of comedians do it. It's the math and, and like, words. Instead of the regular nerds who go on Countdown. Yeah. They've got... They've comedians. Yes.

Speaker: um But, like, the and they're the comedians are surprisingly better math than you and me. You and i Not surprising to me.

Speaker: ah Probably because their education system was better. but um But so, like, I remember when we first started watching it at Christmas breaks, like, with... Because it's the one thing that you can really put on with a lot of family in the room. Because it's, like, family-friendly and it's, like, interactive. Because...

Speaker: At the breaks, or like you can do the the problems with the contestants. And at the breaks, the loss they'll also give you challenges. And Charlie and his dad would always shout out the like numbers one.

Speaker: And they would always do it. and they'd be like, all right, all right. How'd you figure it out? How'd you figure it Show me your work. Show me your work. That's crazy. I mean, I guess countdown is mostly like letters, though. not I mean, they have they have numbers on there, too. But isn't countdown mostly like words?

Speaker: problem It's words and numbers. Cause they'll be like also like a number problem. And then you have to figure out the like most efficient way to get to there. get that problem.

Speaker: Cause like sometimes there's like multiple ways that you can get to. i don't know. It makes me. prefer like quiz of the year and those kinds of things and like QI to, um, to that kind of stuff. Yeah. Yeah. I know I'm i'm better at trivia than, um,

Speaker: ah Numbers and letters. yeah Like I'm much better at connections than Wordle because connections is about the meaning of the word instead of like the letters. yeah Yeah. Yeah. Cause it's like, you'll, it's basically like, you know, Wheel Fortune where you pick a bunch of numbers or pick, pick a bunch of letters and then um you have to make the biggest word out of it. And then the same with numbers. Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah. And then they have this genius lady who is going to um yeah work against you. Exactly. And she's gorgeous. um Genius ladies. hu Famously featured in today's film.

Speaker: Yeah. Kind of. um That's right, guys. You guessed it. This is Go Get Your Girl. This is the podcast where Emma and Katie both work at a airplane airline company.

Speaker: Yeah, i think an airplane airline company. I think that's what it's it's called, yeah. It's called Air Cruise. An airplane airline company. yeah Air Cruise, colon. An airplane airline company.

Speaker: Yeah. us Yeah. The inner workings of how an airline company were and generally how airplanes work is, was not heavy on the mind of the writers of this movie. So I don't think we need to worry about it.

Speaker: Okay. Beautiful. ah But Emma and Katie both work there. And while they're working there, they both witnessed their CEO, who's very scary for some reason. Wait, who are we in this movie? Are we? We're we're just, we're just the like little nerds working in the legal department. We're nobody.

Speaker: yeah Yeah. We're just witnessing this from the outside. Yeah, I'm the the oversharing redhead. Yes. yeah worth they We're both the oversharing redhead. She now has two heads. Fair enough. Yeah, that that the yeah that tracks, actually. That tracks. That tracks. Mary Wiseman is her name. Yes. was great. She was great. She's on Star Trek Strange New Worlds, which um rules. It's sci-fi.

Speaker: yes Do they make you do the math? But yeah, so Emma and Katie are just both witnessing the CEO of the company that they work for, who's very, very scary and doesn't like the sound of breathing, ah slowly but surely ah sort of make some different decisions based on how she has to rearrange her legal team, which is our boss.

Speaker: And our boss, we notice, starts to open up a little bit more. What's going on there? And then lo and behold, at a big press conference, it all comes out that they've been sleeping together, even though our company has a zero tolerance romance policy.

Speaker: And ah and we think that our boss is going to lose her job, but she doubles back and, you know, things happen. And yeah, bada bing, bada boom, baby. There's not a lot you can say when you're just watching it from the outside. I'm Emma.

Speaker: You cast us out as the observers. And I'm Katie, and Mary Wiseman is on Star Trek Discovery, not Star Trek Strange New Worlds, which is not nearly as good as Star Trek Strange New Worlds. I apologize.

Speaker: It's not her fault, but it's just, it's, yeah. It is what it is. Yeah. um ah Yeah, so today we are talking about... um Office Romance, which is a Netflix movie directed by Al Parker. This is our third Al Parker movie.

Speaker: Is it really? He directed Imagine Me and You and Mamma Mia, Here We Go Again. Oh, shut up. I knew I liked He is married to Tandue Newton.

Speaker: oh shut up yeah wait um and their their baby is the the um the girl from um the last of us you know if we if we um we definitely looked this up uh the last time we did this so if you listen to the mamma mia Here we go again. Is this the exact same thing where I'm saying that their child is the um the baby and it's not? It's and her ex-husband's?

Speaker: and That's what I'm looking up. I don't remember. i'm a And yes. Wait, is Nico his daughter? yeah The Last of Us and How to Train Your Dragon. Yes, that is his daughter. Also, they have another daughter named Ripley who's also English writer. She created the Netflix series Everything Now. She is the older sister of Nico Parker.

Speaker: Oh, nice. She called Boris Johnson a cunt at a West End theater play. Oh, I love that. yeah Which, uh, not a bad word in England, as they say in this movie.

Speaker: As we will dive into even further here. Is it the first time we know we've said it on this podcast before? Definitely. We have. Yeah, probably. Yes. Yeah. I will have to say before we even get into it. And and before we even get into the Charlie's corner of it all, I need the listeners to know that when I pitched this to Charlie and by pitch, I mean, I told him without any options that he was going to be watching this with me for the podcast. um he groaned and rolled his eyes and went, I just I'm not a big fan of J. Lo's acting.

Speaker: And we'll see how that goes through this movie. And he is a big fan of her music by. ah I guess. He didn't say he wasn't a fan of J-Lo. He just said he wasn't a fan of her acting.

Speaker: Yes. um ah He's on the six. Like he may not care for the movies, but like he He's right there. ah You know, he's just he's from Charlie from the block.

Speaker: Yeah, exactly. Yeah. um So this movie is written by Brett Goldstein and um another person, Joe Kelly, who ah Joe Kelly was a writer on Ted Lasso. He was a writer for How Met Your Mother. He's an American comedy a writer. he wrote for the 2004 MTV Music Video Awards. Oh, fuck yeah. The best one. I'm sorry. The MTV Movie Awards.

Speaker: Yes. The best ones. Yeah. And ah Brett Goldstein is, of course, um Roy Kent from ah Ted Lasso, a writer ted lass who's a writer on Ted Lasso.

Speaker: yeah And a big English comedy writer. He has, like, credits going back to, like, when he was a teenager. um ah Really? Yeah. um I didn't realize he he wrote that much. But, um yeah, a lot of, like, you know, indie shorts and stuff. And then, like, a lot of um he wrote for... um ah Catherine Tate a lot. He wrote, he wrote a bunch of her ah sketch stuff. And then he wrote a movie that she did based on one of her sketches.

Speaker: Oh, and he wrote a drama a couple of years ago, which did very poorly called all of you. And then this. Yeah. And what's funny is like, there's interviews with him talking about how much he had a crush on JLo when he was like a kid. And he wrote this movie for her. yes Weird. Weird.

Speaker: It's weird and it's wild the fact that like they got J-Lo. I mean, this entire cast is stacked. It is a is that is stacked fucking cast. Even like a less than five, like is a superstar that you've seen in everything. Superstar is strong, but yeah, they're recognizable yeah deep into the bench. Yeah. Yeah. Like, like, like Mary Wiseman, the redhead from Star Trek. Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker: Um, yeah. And, ah yeah, so we start off. Well, so of exciting very a good example of that. We start off with um maybe not under fives, but, you know, one scene each. ah They're on a, ah they're both on, well, he's on a date and she's on what she thinks is a work dinner, but the guy she's with thinks on a date with yeah Will Sasso and the great Lisa Gilroy. most Lisa Gilroy. Just constantly, just she, this is the year of Lisa Gilroy. This is the, like,

Speaker: Five years of Lisa Gilroy. She's, she's killing it everywhere. yeah She is. She's so fucking funny. I love her on, um on make some noise. Like so much. She's just, she's absolutely a chaos elemental. um She's um if you've seen the first season of jury duty, I mean, she's technically she's on both seasons of jury duty, but the first one she's iconic because that was sort of like what sort of took her off. Oh, before she was recognizable? Yeah, because she became a meme because um of her whole like spiel of being like, yes, so I am a content creator and i an entrepreneur for my Instagram and my dog also. And I am and a am a creator for, um yes, and acting. And I also do a little bit of modeling. And I also do a little bit more content creation for my dog also.

Speaker: I have not seen jury duty. I hear it's great. It's really good. It's really good. Season one is fantastic. Season two is also pretty good. Yeah. Um, and, uh, those dates don't go well. Um, and let's just know that these are two, uh, you know, lonely hearts, uh, in their, in their forties and fifties, we should say. like Yeah. These are, a she is 11 years older than him.

Speaker: Yep. Um, and he is, uh, he's 46 years old, which makes her 57. Yeah. and Which is like very, I mean, it's not in this day and age, it's less common, but especially in like the golden age of rom-coms, like unheard of. Like rom-coms were about people who were 29.

Speaker: Yep. It doesn't matter how old the actor is. They were 29. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. um ah But um yeah, so she is the um CEO of an, of air cruise and airline ah company based out of New Jersey. um i imagine Newark, Newark,

Speaker: That's where they are. They're like right across the river. Yeah. Yeah. I imagine. Colocan perhaps. Yeah. um They really try to jazz up New Jersey and really like, I feel like this is part like tourism for New Jersey ad. She's Jersey girl. That's, that's her whole deal. Like, but she's from New York.

Speaker: No, isn't she from Jersey and like lived in, I don't know. im Well, I thought she like famously was from like Queens. Yeah. Oh, yeah, that's right. On the 6th, yeah. Yeah. Because he wrote, like, a whole, like, album about it.

Speaker: who am I thinking of that's, like... Yeah, this is very New Jersey. Yeah, yeah she was born in New York City. Because, well, she was famously in Jersey Girl. Like, that a famous... I'm thinking of, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. She was famously. The Ben Affleck movie Jersey Girl. The famous...

Speaker: Like, um, revolutionary film Jersey She's from the Bronx. not Sorry, the Bronx. Sorry. i couldn't remember which borough. Yeah. Um, so, uh, yes. They're in New Jersey.

Speaker: Um, and but Betty Gilpin, uh, is. Love her. Her, uh, assistant, like executive assistant, basically. Yeah. her Who is very pregnant. Workaholic.

Speaker: And workaholic. And refuses to leave. yeah We have Bradley Whitford, who is the chief counsel, and he chokes on a breakfast burrito and ah forces her to choose Brett Goldstein, who is a very professional ah English lawyer in this, um to take over on a deposition.

Speaker: Yes. Yeah. And it's like sort of hinted at that Brett Goldstein's character. he is a very, very good lawyer and he had a very, very high paying, amazing legal job back in the UK. And no one knows why he chose to give that all up and live in New Jersey. Yeah. I wish we could have seen him in the wig and stuff. That would have been. I know. Right. i would have been like. Right.

Speaker: right ah Um, So what's happening is this case is Roger Bart um is... Yes, famous Roger Bart.

Speaker: Yeah, has... um Trying to imply that she got, he's a um head of a rival airline. Yep. Falcon Airlines.

Speaker: Yes. Jennifer Lopez met with a head of another airline, it seems? No, she met, so she met with the, um the like, owner or, like, CFO or CEO of the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport. port Of the airport. That's what it is.

Speaker: Because they want to get. Because we never see him in the movie. Exactly. They want to get the airline, like some um gates in Dallas-Fort Worth because they want to expand where their airline East Coast airline and they're trying to expand. Yes. Yeah. And Dallas-Fort Worth is a giant airport. So yeah, it's hit. Heard of it.

Speaker: ah Heard of it. Dallas-Fort Worth. What's the Dallas airport called? Is it named after somebody? do you know?

Speaker: Dallas-Fort Worth. Okay. I just know the Houston one is George Bush. Yeah, yeah. that's why That's why I was asking if the Dallas one was named after. Yeah, some terrible Texan. I think it's Dallas-Fort Worth. It's DFW.

Speaker: Yeah, right. um ah So the um he is trying to imply that she either bribed or slept with the ah owner of this airport in order to get these gates. And she is, of course, denying this.

Speaker: It's a frivolous lawsuit and Roger Bart is like just a sneaky little goblin in this. Yeah. Yeah. um And Brett Goldstein does a good job. And yeah then they fall in love. don't know what else. Yeah. Well, I mean, like he so at first she's she he's like completely silent. And and he as like the other guys like spewing all this garbage at them. And J-Lo is just like, can I have a second with my lawyer, please? And she's like, what the fuck are you doing? You're letting him say all of this stuff and you're not like defending me. He's like, I'm so sorry. But like, because it should be said when he first meets J-Lo, he walks in.

Speaker: And is completely tongue tied. Cause he's just like, you're glowing and you have nice shoes. And then she's like, Oh, this guy's a dud. Seriously. Like this is going to be my lawyer. Um, because he's just so tongue tied around her. Um, and then they get, she is wearing the fuck out of that white pantsuit to be fair. Yeah. Which I immediately texted Katie and I was like, it is it in JLo's contract that she has to be wearing a white pantsuit in every movie? Yeah.

Speaker: I mean, she looks good in white. Yeah. She does. with her sitting way yeah Not a lot of people can pull that off. Listen, I need to, apparently we all should be wearing white pants this year. That's what I've been that's what I've been seeing. Why, why, why what why is that a trend? I think I can pull it off.

Speaker: and I mean, I can't. Do you know how dirty those will be by the end of the day? ah that that is That is a concern, yes. Yes. I probably tend to be a a bit ah cleaner than you, maybe, my day-to-day. I'm very clumsy, and I'm very messy. And boy, oh boy, I cannot wear white at all. my Even my wedding gown. My wedding gown is in a ah clean and preserve box, Katie. And I take it out every time I'm at my parents, and I've had a few glasses of wine, and I look at it. And ah there's...

Speaker: Food stains all over the front. Every time you're at your parents' house, you get a glass of wine to look at your wedding dress? do you do you put it on? No, it's in a box. You don't have a shim around the house?

Speaker: No. ah it it's in a box. I just get it out and I go... It's such a good dress. Such a good dress. That's great. That's great. Yeah. Yeah. yeah Yeah. um But yeah, it's covered in food stains.

Speaker: Yeah. I mean, that's everybody's is though. That's the thing. Like a wedding dress, especially like is huge and all over the place. Like you're going to drop some shrimp on it. Like, I mean, it not on the skirt, Katie.

Speaker: like It's not on the skirt. it's off the bottom the It's on the bodice. the bodice. There's like a wine stain like right on my right room. It's also like it's a wedding. Like again, you wear the dress one time. Who cares if it gets dirty? You're really defending this, but everyone in my life will correct me. You were probably backing it up to hot in here with a glass of wine in your hand. Why wouldn't you spill it on yourself? Yeah.

Speaker: Thanks, Katie. I appreciate your um your confidence in me. No problem. Even if it was just a regular day and not a wedding, it still probably would have happened. Fair enough. Fair enough.

Speaker: Anyway. Yeah, so they're at the desk deposition, and um roger bart is Roger Bart's lawyer is spewing all this stuff at her. And so she's like, you need to like get in there and do stuff. And he's like, I'm so sorry, um Miss Cruz. But... i contrary to our earlier meeting, I'm actually very good at this and I've been doing this for a while. So you need to trust me. And she goes, okay, but if you fuck this up, you're fired.

Speaker: He says also though, because you do glow and those are nice shoes. Yeah. yeah Um, I love Brett Goldstein. Um, he is, he's got this great like persona, um, of this, like,

Speaker: you know, absolutely, absolute sweetheart under this, this shell of like angry, c crusty British man right who like has carried over on, on, on a few other, on a few other roles. I'd like to see, I wonder that drama he made is apparently not very good, but I would, I would maybe like to see it just to see like him do something kind of very different, but the persona is great. um he's He's very funny.

Speaker: yeah It's the nice, it's a nice combination of like, Oh, is he going to be mean or is he going to make me laugh? Yeah, but also, like, I mean, well, he's less mean in this than Ted Lasso, for sure. But oh he's he's also, like, like he's just, he's he's a he's nice to everyone, but still scary. like Yeah. it's ah yeah It's just, it's very British. um The way he, like, always, like the like, goes and says hello to, like, the the lowest status person in the room everywhere they go. Yeah, like yeah. Like, he, like, says hello, and he, like, um...

Speaker: says good morning to the stenographer and um yeah it's great and then the the male guy pushing the car the um yeah yeah his his assistant ah um but he never really wants to know there oh oh his assistant is yeah well he's not nice to his assistant because she overshares yeah she overshares until the end when he's like all right you can tell me something about your day You go, it's so good. It's he has this thing where he's like, these things are private. And yeah this is this is an American thing. Like when I say, are you all right? You say, all right. And that's the end. We just move on. yeah just But I'm not all right. Because I'm not. Nobody's all right. We just pretend that we are. It's a very British like yeah versus American thing. yeah Right.

Speaker: So she takes him into her office and apologizes to him and shakes his hand and he gets a boner. Immediately. Like, and we had to, Charlie and i had to pause and rewind because we were like, what happened? Because you don't see it right away.

Speaker: You don't see it right away. And like, I had like, had like, we both like looked down for a minute and like, all of a sudden she goes, oh my God, get out of here. And so we, we both had to like rewind it. We're like, oh my God, did he say something? he do something that we just didn't catch? And then beat later, like pans out and you see his giant boner. Oh, I didn't notice it. I didn't notice it visually. I just got it from context.

Speaker: Yeah, no. I mean, like, the way that she was just sort of, like, talking to him, like, if you, like, blink and you're, you, like, aren't expecting it, like, it just, you can get confused for, like, five seconds.

Speaker: Yeah, this is the second movie in a row where someone gets ah an embarrassing boner, you know? someone get, oh yeah. In Adventureland, yeah. Oh yeah, he constantly was getting embarrassed. But he was like, you know, 22 years old, so. Yeah, little this is a grown man. he just, he gets so turned on by her complimenting his work ethic. Yeah, yeah.

Speaker: um ah And so and then I wrote, but I wrote, is that funny? Is it funny that he gets a boner? I'm not sure if it is. I'm not sure if that's funny. um well There's a lot of things in this movie where I'm like, is this funny?

Speaker: Oh, see, I thought there was a lot of the cadence of being funny. But yeah. I think that what was more funny was her reaction to it of like, because you follow him home and you're like, and he's, of course, cringing the whole time and like tossing and turning and being like, oh, my God, what the fuck did I do? What the fuck? Oh, my God. But it's like not something that you can like, you know, be in control of. if your boss is just super beautiful and complimenting your work ethic. And you wrote this movie for her.

Speaker: And you wrote this movie for her. And she decided to be in it and play your romantic lead opposite you. Then of course you're going to get a boner when shaking her hand. um But like, she is so giddy and excited. She's like, Oh my God, I gave him a boner because I got it point i still got it Up until this point, she is portrayed as like someone who's like,

Speaker: pretty scary like ever but we don't really see a lot of that what we just see is she's just like constantly at work and just working and it's just about all about work Yeah, his legal team like briefs him and says like, don't say this, don't say that. Don't just breathe out of the side of your mouth. Yeah.

Speaker: yes Yeah. and Everyone does. Then he goes to prison. oh hold on. So she asked him to take over running legal because Bradley Whitford choked. um He's in the hospital with a breathing tube down his throat.

Speaker: Her dad is on the board ah and is preventing this the board from replacing her as CEO all the time. um ah the Because they're all a sexist, basically, is the only reason we we were given for that, really. um yeah And her dad is like the, you know, the founder of the company and the mascot, basically. Mm-hmm.

Speaker: Once we get this relationship with their dad, but we don't meet him yet. um then he goes to prison to see his sister, Jodie Whittaker. um Doctor Who herself. Who is in prison for murder one.

Speaker: Yep. Yep. She cut off a guy's head with a machete. Just because she didn't like him. i didn't like the cunt. She said.

Speaker: ah that And ah she's she's doing the time of her life ah in prison. The time of her life. And she's having the time of her life in prison. Yes, yes. um ah And they, this is this is his best friend character, is his his murderous sister in prison. His psychopathic murderous sister. It's great. Yeah, and she is, he tells her about Jennifer Lopez immediately, and she's like, well, you should shag her. And he's like, I can't. There's this whole thing. And like, now she is being accused of sleeping with somebody at, you know, for business purposes. And now if people find out,

Speaker: that she's sleeping with me. It's going to make the lawsuit harder. So there's like, yeah there's good reasons for both of them in this movie to hide this romance, which is, um which is nice. Like you don't necessarily see that as much um in some of these movies, but they definitely have very good reasons to, to not let people know that they yeah are dating. Yeah. Yeah. And they both understand the reasons. There's no like, you know, miscommunication with that.

Speaker: um we could He could be disbarred, he could lose his visa, and then he'd have to go back and leave his sister in America. And you find out that the reason he came to America was because of his sister. yeah Because his sister murdered someone and is in prison in New Jersey.

Speaker: Yes, yes. um ah Bradley Whitford comes back. He's insane. Yep. Yep.

Speaker: ah trying to ah take over the the lawsuit. And he puts out this, um this in in very long ah brief detailing all these interviews he did with her past lovers saying that basically the reason that she couldn't have done this is because she doesn't fuck.

Speaker: Yep, because she doesn't, because she has not had sex. As Betty Gilpin puts it, the last recorded sexual encounter was four years ago.

Speaker: Yeah, which is wild. Right, right. And J-Lo is just like, well, you got artificially inseminated because you didn't want to be in a relationship, Betty Gilpin. And she goes, yeah, but I fuck.

Speaker: Exactly, yes. um So Jennifer Lopez doesn't want to use that as a defense. Brett Goldstein says it's a bad idea. And so Jennifer Lopez is like, okay, so um Daniel Blancheflower, that is his name. yes his name.

Speaker: is going to take over as lead on this. And Bradley Whitford's like, no, um if you take me off this, I quit. She's like, well, I guess you quit then. so Well, first, that he he um his whole defense blows up in his face because they... um He basically is using this so that they don't have to go to trial. And he's just like, I'm going to get it. I'm going to get this thrown out because you know, there's all of this evidence. There's no reason that we should go to trial. Well, he asked for a summary judgment. Yeah. Yeah. And yeah the judge denies it. Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah. And he so it basically blows up in his face. He makes it turns out it was a bad decision. And he's like, no, you're going to trial. And um so then that's J-Lo's whole defense of like, well, I guess I'm going to have Daniel take over. And because you made a bad decision and he obviously knows what he's doing with this. So like,

Speaker: He's in charge now. And he's like, well, then I'm going to quit. And then he quits. And everybody's mad about it because they're like, he's been our our legal guy for decades. And we trust this guy and we like him. And you let him quit?

Speaker: What is wrong with you? She gets pulled before the board um and they immediately are like, we should replace you. And Edward James Olmos comes in, who is her dad, who also played her dad in Selina.

Speaker: Didn't know that. The great Edward James Olmos. And is, he calls her Gordita. Yeah. Which Brett Goldstein says to Betty Gilpin is like, what does that mean? Like little, little, little darling or something. She goes, means a little fatty.

Speaker: yeah

Speaker: And he's like. Wait, isn't Gordita ah an item on the Taco Bell menu? Yeah. Yeah. it's called Yeah, but like burrito means little donkey.

Speaker: link oh it does? Yeah. And gordita means little fatty. It's a little fatty. but but but but but

Speaker: But burrito, little donkey. yeah ha e

Speaker: I don't know. i don't know why they're called that. Yeah. Yeah. yeah Yeah. ah It's just a cute little name for something. Yeah. I mean, it's like like I get like a gordita is like a little like a little squisher, you know, like a little. I can understand why gordita is called a gordita, but I just yeah I guess I'm more baffled at little donkey.

Speaker: yeah I mean, I'll Google it. Why is it called Little Donkey? it Because it doesn't look like a donkey. Little donkey. The name comes from the shape of the folded tortilla, which resembles the bedrolls or packs carried by donkeys.

Speaker: Oh, that makes more sense. During the 1910s Mexican Revolution, a street vendor named Juan Mendez in Chihuahua, Mexico, wrapped his food in large flour tortillas to keep it warm and transported it on his small donkey. those are These are all folk stories. We don't know if it's true.

Speaker: Yeah. Allegedly. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker: So, um, yes. So he, you know, embarrasses her and kind of condescends her, but does keep the board from, um, dismissing her and, uh, and lets, um, Brett Goldstein stay as, uh, as lead counsel.

Speaker: Yes. Um, uh, And then we have a cover of I Want You by Bob Dylan to a montage of them trying to be alone together and Betty Gilpin cock blocking them at every turn. At every turn. It's so good. Very, very extremely pregnant Betty Gilpin. Just constantly cock blocking. And she's just like, my favorite is when he's leaving JLo's office at one point and Betty Gilpin, ah because she was in the office originally,

Speaker: And J-Lo's like, yeah, you can you can go. You can go. I just need to talk to um to Daniel. And Betty Gilpin's just sitting on a chair outside of J-Lo's office. And so as he's leaving, he goes up to one of the members of his legal team and he turns to them and he goes, um is she still sitting there um petting her pregnant but pregnancy belly like a Bond villain?

Speaker: is Is she still staring at me like that? And he goes, yeah. Yeah. yeah And Betty Gilman's just sitting there just rubbing her belly. She knows something's up. Yeah, for sure. yeah She's on to them. Yeah. um ah Then we have the Tony Hale cunt monologue. Yes. because Hey, maybe we should put in the description that we're going to say the C word a lot, maybe. Yeah, yeah. We're going to say the C word a lot. Well, because it's one of his legal team's birthdays. And so everyone's going around saying nice things about um this guy on the legal team. And it gets to Daniel and he goes, happy happy birthday, Frank. You're a real cunt.

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. And then it just smash cuts to him in the HR office with the great Tony Hale. Yes. Who's barely keeping it together at this point.

Speaker: yeahp He's just like, you can't, you can't say that. he's like, you have to understand in my country, it's, it's a term of endearment. And he goes on this giant monologue where every other word is cunt. And ah yeah Charlie lost it. He thought it was the funniest thing. Yeah. but That seemed like, that seems like something he would like.

Speaker: Yep. um ah And ah so he has to be, he has to be written up, but otherwise ah moves on. Yeah. Well, and at the end he goes, Hey, while I'm, while I'm here, this ah whole zero tolerance dating policy, don't we feel like it's a little bit outdated for 2026? I mean, like if it didn't interfere with your work, like what's the problem? um um And Tony Hale goes, no, no. And so he leaves and JLo comes in and she goes, Hey,

Speaker: Just wanted to talk to you about the zero tolerance dating policy. It's 2026. Shouldn't we, if we can both stay professional, like, shouldn't we just, you know, reevaluate things? Yeah, yeah.

Speaker: And he doesn't get suspicious about that. Exactly. um a passenger in the Dominican Republic is suing her for some kind of bullshit. So she needs to go there and she decides to take Daniel. Big surprise.

Speaker: Yep. ah In cruise one, their first plane, which is this little tiny little prop jet, which there's a couple of things. Again, I'm no airline expert. I'm not a pilot.

Speaker: But I'm pretty sure this tiny little plane isn't going to make it from New Jersey to the Dominican Republic at all without refueling much less in four hours, which is what they say.

Speaker: Well, because he also assumes that it's like going to be like a private jet, like you know Air Force One. and then Which would make sense. Yeah, which would make sense. And then they're like, no, it's that rinky-dink little guy. And he goes, okay.

Speaker: And then he gets on, and then J-Lo's in the driver's seat, and he goes, hey, where's the driver? And she goes, no, I'm going to be doing the driving. And he goes, I'm sorry, what? They call them pilots in planes, usually.

Speaker: um

Speaker: Also, they're flying, like, through Manhattan at, you know, a couple of hundred feet in the air. It's crazy. Like, yeah i I don't know why they chose to do that. Like, the the background they're showing is, like, they're going by and the m Empire State Building is, like, well above them. Like, you cannot fly that low in New York. Like, ah not famously, you're not supposed to fly airplanes that low in Manhattan.

Speaker: Like.

Speaker: There was a famous event that sort of created a bunch of laws about how low you can fly planes in New York. i mean, they had those laws before, but still, especially after that. Yeah. ah Anyway, um ah despite that, ah they go to, yeah, they also like, they're flying, she's flying directly through a storm. She's not like getting above it. They're flying through. Anyway, doesn't matter.

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. um ah She flies them perfectly fine to the Dominican Republic. And it's, it's winter in New York and it's beautiful in the DR. So yeah um they're so excited to be in the war.

Speaker: Yes. Yes. They eat dinner and then they decide to dance to Donna Summers, dim all the lights, which of course turns into fade into you. One of the most romantic songs ever made playing What are we supposed to do? Not make out if we're dancing to fade into you? Jesus. After like five or six pina coladas. Yeah.

Speaker: J-Lo's wearing that beautiful green dress. Yeah. So then they then they make out. And then they um they they go back to the van villa and fuck. yeah They bang.

Speaker: Bang. A bang and a bang. A bang, bang, bang. How can you not? How can you not? Exactly. In this beautiful hotel. Yeah. Um, they get room service and Amy Sedaris is the room service lady. Yeah.

Speaker: And you're what is happening? And they're like, this can never happen. It'll never happen again. Like yeah it's important. Like that we have things that we can lose because of this and we can never do this again. And they immediately cut to them. The plane is on autopilot and they're they doing the Titanic hand on the, on the window in the back. Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah. To which I was going, who's flying the plane? It's autopilot. Yeah. doesn't like you're Once you're in the air, the plane flies itself. The plane flies itself, you know? don't you ever flown a plane, Katie?

Speaker: No, but, you know, i've seen it in the films. I'm aware of the concept of autopilot. I just don't feel like you should be that involved in another activity. No, you probably shouldn't be fucking and in the plane on autopilot. Yeah, I mean, what if what if there's a what of a goose flies into the engine? Exactly. Then you're goose murderer.

Speaker: Yeah, well, right. um So they begin a clandestine relationship. Gilpin is on to them, of course. yep i mean There's this bit where they're they're eating on her porch and ah he said she's asking him, like, why Jersey? And then he looks over at her and he says, because it's the most beautiful place on Earth. i'm like, okay, buddy. ah All right. I ah i love him.

Speaker: um and then he discovers her anglophilia room yeah um which is gross not needed this this whole part of the movie was so not needed yeah oh my god like he like it just was so cringy like he's just like can i use your restroom or can i use your bathroom or whatever british people say um and uh you're lou and she goes yeah it's uh down the hall to the right and then as he's going she goes oh no no i mean the left the left but it's too late because he's opening a door and it's covered in british flags british tourism paraphernalia like this would never happen know it's just very so it's very stupid yeah he has like

Speaker: apparently like a royal throne in there that only royalty can sit on ah like it's i guess it's supposed to be silly and funny but it's mostly just stupid like if if it and she was had like this anglophilia thing that's one thing like you could definitely have that be part of it but like It's very stupid. And he's like, so what, I'm your kink then? ah And then later he comes back and he's dressed like a beef eater. And yeah she's like, you have to stay quiet. and' Yes. yeah

Speaker: Yeah. It's just so cringy because it's just like, it I don't know. if I felt like it undermined the relationship and it undermined their like connection to their genuine connection to each other. I was like, it's just something that's so not needed. Like adding in that she has an Anglophilia thing, like makes it seem like she's just into him because he's British, but that's not why she's into him.

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah, for sure. And then it never comes up again. There's not even a reference to it after that. I think they reference it at the end. Oh, do they? In the post-credit scene. Oh, okay.

Speaker: um And this is where ah she he asks her, like, you know, everyone's scared of you, um but you're not scary. Like, why don't you let them see you? um yeah And apparently she married a guy from the office and he cheated on her with his secretary and everyone knew and embarrassed her. And yeah so that's why she has to, like, create this um terrifying persona so she can't seem vulnerable in front of people anymore. Yeah. Mm-hmm.

Speaker: Which is really sad. And then he says he has personal stuff to do the next morning, but they can hang out in the afternoon. And she's like, what personal stuff? and he's like, it's personal because that's his whole deal, right? Yeah. because he He's going to see his sister at the prison and she, like a crazy person, follows him there. Oh, come on, Katie. As if you wouldn't do the same thing.

Speaker: no I would not. Or at least... secretly share your location share their location with you so you can follow them. Now, listen, that's normal. Everyone does that.

Speaker: Everyone does that. It's not like I look at my phone sometimes to see where you're at. Make sure that you're safe. ah Yeah. Yeah, I do that with all my friends. um That's why I have them in my and my Find My Friends. The reason I want to add you to my Find My Friends is so I can see where you are. Exactly. That's the um so um she follows him. He goes to see his sister and she's like, oh, you shagged her. And he's like, my dick hurts.

Speaker: Right? Right? And she's like, gross. um So this is when we find out officially that, oh, yeah. And then so J-Lo lies to the prison guard, says that, you know, she's friends with Daniel. And he goes, well, if you're friends with Daniel, like, because a again Daniel makes friends with all of the. like Everybody loves Daniel. You know, everybody who's there. Yeah. So the guard is like, we're friends Daniel. I'm sure it's fine. you can come see her.

Speaker: yeah And so she goes and talks to his sister. um And this is when she finds out that, you know, she got arrested and he immediately dropped everything in the UK and moved to the US and defended her and got her off. She goes, otherwise would have gotten the death penalty. Yep.

Speaker: Yeah. i don't know if they have the death penalty in New Jersey. Maybe they do. i don't know. And this is when she's like, you treat him right. You get me? It's like, oh boy. Yep. There's one person you should listen to. It's the...

Speaker: in jail for murder. Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker: Um, and, uh, and then he catches her outside the prison. He's like, what the fuck is wrong with you? Yeah. and she's madder at him, ah than he is at her, which is crazy.

Speaker: um and she's like, you know, you lied to me. It was a lie of omission. You know, you're trying to keep these things from me. He goes, I am a private person. Like again, how long have they been together? Like how much business of it is hers? Like this is it's really not insane. And she feels entitled to know these things about him.

Speaker: And so much so that she like follows him. There is, is deranged. Um, But somehow, somehow she's madder at him for lying because she's vulnerable because her husband cheated on her. Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah. I think like this is where she really like lets him know the details about the fact that her husband cheated on her. Like ah how like bad it was. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. yeah For sure. yeah But again, she stalked him.

Speaker: I don't know, Katie. Sometimes you can forgive it. Well, I'm not saying that you can't forgive what she did in this situation, but like her being madder at him for him not telling her is crazy.

Speaker: Like she's wrong.

Speaker: um They, they go to a press conference where she's like, I would never sleep with a coworker. I would certainly never sleep with my lawyer. everyone's like, what a weird, what a weird thing to say. Right. What do you mean by that?

Speaker: um this is when they're like we can't be together it's not worth your company um and he's like she's like what do you want and he's like oh that's such an american thing british people survive we carry on you know i want to get my sister home i want to get i want her to get the help that she needs i want to be good at work what else should i want and she's like okay then well we agree that we're done yeah and it's sad um they're mopey and sad And Gilpin sees through it immediately. oh yeah. Immediately. She's just like, you can you can hide fucking. You can hide hooking up and being in love. But you cannot hide being in a fight.

Speaker: Yes. And then her water breaks. Yes. And in the fastest labor of all time. the most shocking scene of this movie. Yeah, but like also she goes from her water breaking to crowning in 25 seconds, which I get is intentional because she's so fast paced and wants everything done quickly. Like that's the joke. But like, I'm pretty sure it's physically impossible.

Speaker: Like, but also, it should be said, you're not expecting to see her crowning. And it is such a jump scare. And they show it twice. They show it twice. Yeah. um ah We get some sort of, you know, machine. I'm assuming it's like got to be some kind of like latex construct ah of a baby coming out of a vagina.

Speaker: Like I remember there's this terrible movie from the 90s. It's a it's a Robert Altman movie called Dr. T and the Women. And they have a he plays a an obstetrician in that movie. It's Richard Gere. yeah And the movie ends with him delivering a baby and it's, they did a, um they had, it was a real childbirth in that movie that they show. it's so they They filmed a real childbirth? They filmed a real childbirth um and had, you know, I'm sure there was a doctor there, but Richard Gere, you know, on camera delivered the baby. It's Robert Allman. That's part, you know, one of his things. Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker: Um, uh, and they, they, they show it, which is crazy, but, um, I just remember it being a huge deal in Knocked Up. Like when Knocked Up came out, everyone was just like, man, there's that scene, that scene when she's giving birth. And then it shows, it shows the crowning. didn't remember that. It shows the baby crowning. Yeah. Don't worry. We're going to be doing it on this pod.

Speaker: Oh yeah. We'll do Knocked Up. But I imagine in both the cases of Knocked Up and this, it's some sort of animatronic vagina. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, this vagina does not look real. and No, no, it doesn't. It doesn't. It's very terrifying. Like this crowning baby's head is very scary. And a lot of it is is by how fake it is. It's just like, whoa, whoa. Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker: um ah And he says, i fear we need to remove your underpants, which is very British thing to say. I love that. um

Speaker: And then he doesn't know what to do with them. and just Yeah. They just throw them in the bin or. Yeah. Yeah. She's like, I don't care. ah And she's still yelling at them while it Jennifer Lopez runs in and then she's like, are you two fucking while she's pushing a baby out of her? Yeah.

Speaker: um and she says are you two in love with each other um delivers the baby in seconds like well first he holds the baby in she holds the baby in and she's like not until you would admit it not until you admit it and they're like yeah hi yeah like can you imagine like what an easy labor honestly like i mean i imagine she'd rather have had it done in a hospital but like it's over in like less than a minute um

Speaker: And they don't have to cut the cord or anything. The baby just popped out. Ridiculous. The baby's just there. Like, my sister was in labor for like 36 hours. just

Speaker: It famously takes a long time. Yeah, well, I mean, sometimes you you you have a baby very quickly, but not this quickly. Like, again, I'm pretty sure, like, you don't even have contractions until your water breaks. Like, it takes a really long time after your water breaks. I have no idea. Neither us have had children, so.

Speaker: No, I don't think it's physically possible to to have a baby that quickly after your water breaks. I just know I was a quick birth and mine was like three hours, three or four hours. That is very quick. Yeah. Yeah. My mom likes to say it's how I do everything.

Speaker: Fast and loose. Fast and loose. I just really wanted to meet the world. Oh yeah. Um, ah yes. So, um, she's going to have a meeting with Roger Bart. Um, and they tell her like, Oh, I bet he wants to buy the airline.

Speaker: Um, and maybe you should do that. So she goes and has dinner with him. And we realized that Amy Sedaris, the, uh, who was too recognizable of an actor to only play the, uh, room service lady. But you're sort of confused because every small part is done by recognizable actor. So you're just like, okay, I guess Amy Sedaris is just their weird, um, like room service attendant. Yeah. I didn't see, I mean, I didn't, I didn't see it coming. Um, is she's a, she's a private investigator hired by Roger Barton. She's got photos of them together and they can release those and, you know, her, her credibility in the, in the lawsuit.

Speaker: Um, Bradley Pitford took over the food truck that he sued um ah to the choked truck and then yeah learned how to cook from the guy that he sued.

Speaker: Yeah. And he's living his best life. And she goes to him for advice. And she's like, this is the best breakfast burrito I've ever had. He's like, yeah, I really found my calling. i He's like, you got to figure out what's most important to you. ah Brett Goldstein resigns and takes a job in Manhattan.

Speaker: um ah Jennifer Lopez is like, please tell Lizzie that it's your fault we broke up. He's like, oh, yeah, yeah, for sure. So she doesn't behead me.

Speaker: Yes.

Speaker: ah Lizzie is his sister. Yeah. we should Yeah. Yeah. um And he gives her this little speech and he's like, your dad pushes you around and it's bullshit. Like he, you're the one who built this company, not him. He founded it, but you're the one who made it what it is. He's a mascot and you're a bad bitch. And every time you go into those board meetings, he condescends you and calls you gordita. And like, that's not fair. And you put up with it.

Speaker: And she's like, Hey, why don't you go fuck yourself? Yeah. I i mean, like I feel like there could have been like maybe a little bit more of this because it did feel a little bit out of left field because we only get that one scene in the boardroom. yeah boardroom And it all it is is really him just calling her Gordita. And it's like he's there defending her ideas and like keeping her as CEO and like I mean, there's a little bit of condescension there. He's like, well, you know, we work for them, Gordita. Like, it's, it is like, you know, very like, you know, you're a dad talking to like a little girl instead of like the CEO of the company. But it's not, yeah, it's not, it's it's very, yeah, it's, it's not, it's not, um it does. Yeah, you don't even think about it until Brick Holstein brings it up. There's, it's a little underbaked. Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker: Because then I was just like, what? Because I thought he was going to die and that was going to be the problem she had with the board. Oh. yeah I mean, I feel like that would be even better. But like, no.

Speaker: This is not a movie that deals with serious subjects, really. No, no, it's not. It's it's very much not. I mean, they they like to deal with workaholic um women by having them come back hilariously the day after they give birth and passing out at every turn because they just can't take time off.

Speaker: Yeah, it's very silly. Yeah, she comes the next day. She's there. like Oh, my God. What are you doing here? Go home. Yeah. um Yeah. i She tells Gilpin that she's going to resign as CEO.

Speaker: um And then we he goes to see Lizzie. He tells him to look after himself. And she's like, it's like, am I sorry for what I did? No, it still makes me happy when I think about beheading that guy.

Speaker: Um, and then we have this, uh, whole bit where Betty Gilpin comes to see him at his new firm and she's got a sleeping baby, but so she's like whisper screaming at him, um, telling her about how, uh, she needs to go. he needs to like fix it because she's resigning. um and, uh, then Jennifer Lopez has the scene with her dad where, you know, she,

Speaker: is telling him, you know, you don't need to treat me this way. And he's like, i well, you know, I gotta, sometimes I gotta kick your ass a little bit. she goes, what if no one, kick i I kick your ass so they don't have to. And she's like, what if no one kicks my ass and no one calls me Gordita? Yeah. he's She's like, you were going bankrupt. I'm the one who saved this company.

Speaker: Yeah. But she's still going to resign to try to save the balls behind the company. Yeah. Yeah. um And then he's going after her, but he's got to get from Manhattan to New Jersey. So he goes through the Holland Tunnel and he gets stuck there. we And that was the wrong decision. um ah And then we get a graduate reference because a man wrote this movie.

Speaker: Right? As soon as it happened, I was just like, holy fuck. If we were to tally the amount of movies that we have covered that have a graduate reference. Absolutely. Yeah. It seems like we've done most of them this year, honestly. Yeah.

Speaker: Including the B movie. Yes. He's, yeah, he, because he pulls in and starts pounding on the window. And then he's like, I need to tell you something, but it's private. she's like, okay, well, anyway. then he's like, we slept together. And she's like, this is a press conference, dude. Some things are private.

Speaker: um And then he gives this big speech um ah and he's like, let's fight it. You're too good at this to to give up like this. And Edward James Olmo stands up and he says, you should do it.

Speaker: And she says, thank you, daddy. And Brett Goldstein goes, you're welcome, baby. Oh, you were talking to your dad. I'm so sorry.

Speaker: oh And he tells her he loves her. And ah she says that she's going to open up and let the employees like get to know her and that her let her them know that she cares about them. Yeah. because And they kiss they kiss and everyone cheers. And oh, that and then that's the end of the movie. Like it's very sudden.

Speaker: Yeah, but that's the end of the movie, kind of. Yeah, we get some post-credit scenes of um everyone giving way too detailed explanations of their sexual exploits to the the great Tony Hale.

Speaker: And him just like losing his mind. But then at the end, um whenever he's getting the wedding invitation from um Brett Goldstein and J-Lo, that's whenever there's like a reference back to her in LaFeele. Yeah.

Speaker: Oh, because they're getting married in England. Yes. Yeah. She's like, it's going to be in London. Yeah. ah yeah So, um but then as the door is closing, there's another one of the employees that who's just naked with a clipboard and Tony Hale's totally been doing it too.

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. It's, yeah it's one of the legal team guys, the guy with the beard. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um, uh, Yeah, it's very slight. um ah As was once as this podcast was once described, this movie paper thin.

Speaker: It was cute. It's not very good. I thought it was really entertaining sort of bubblegum rom-com nonsense. Like this is what you put on when you don't want to feel bad feelings. When you just want to feel happy feelings. And then you forget about it immediately. There's not much substance. Yeah.

Speaker: No, but is everyone in this hilarious? Abso-fucking-lutely. seems like they had a good time, yeah. They had a really good time making this movie. um And this brings us to Charlie's Corner, Charlie's Corner, Charlie's Corner. Hi, governor?

Speaker: and i I was waiting for you to do the face. Oh, sorry. I drifted out, sorry. That's okay. Hi, governor? Oh, you're giving me another chance, and I also didn't do it. Yeah!

Speaker: Too late. Charlie's Corner. Charlie's Corner. Charlie's Corner.

Speaker: There we go. All right. Perfect. it's the little Leave all those in. Don't cut it out. yeah Nope. Never. um So Charlie famously. was like, I'm just not a fan of J-Lo's acting. I don't know. I'm just like, really? We have to watch this movie? I was like, it's written by Brett Goldstein. It's going to be funny. He's like, I guess. well I don't know. Oh, man. and then as we were watching it, literally, well, I guess not literally, but um figuratively rolling on the floor laughing. He lost it so many times in this movie.

Speaker: that's He thought it was hilarious. I don't know. i don't know i think I chuckled a couple of times. In particular, the cunt monologue. He thought it was the funniest thing. And I can always tell when Charlie thinks something is very, very funny because he starts to cover his face.

Speaker: Oh. Because he's laughing so much. It's very cute. He has different stages of um laughter that I've just sort of... We all do. Yeah. You know. yeah Stage one is the chuckle. the and ah stage two is the... ah ah And then stage three is... like um It's very cute. It's good. um yeah Yeah. So that's that's that's Charlie's Corner. What movie are we doing next week, Katie? Yeah.

Speaker: ah Next week, um ah we're going to be doing the rom-com drama masterpiece, Jerry Maguire. Oh, we are going classic, baby. Yeah, yeah. I've never actually seen Jerry Maguire.

Speaker: Really? Oh, it's good. Yeah. yeahs really good movie. Yeah. Can't wait to ah say all of those quotes. And this will be our first Cameron Crowe, I believe. Yeah, yeah.

Speaker: And our first Tom Cruise. Wow, really? Yeah, I guess so. I mean, he doesn't do a lot of rom-coms. Yeah. I mean, I'm going to have a lot to say about Tom Cruise. I'm i'm just going to warn the listeners right now. I have a lot to say about Tom Cruise. Well, allegedly.
