A real walloping in the village (Emmerdale 7-18 September 2026)

Dingle All The Way: an Emmerdale podcast

Transcript

Speaker: Hello, welcome to Dingle All The Way. My name is Simon. and I'm Lizzie. We're sort of in the ah aftermath of the big drama this time, aren't we? But there's been more secrets and lies. It's all been very exciting. Yeah, it's been lovely that some of the secrets and lies have come out.

Speaker: into the open because that is as you know the thing I crave most with Emmerdale is for everyone to just say what's happening and be honest with one another and it would make for a very boring tv show I expect but I would feel i would rest easy in my bed if people were stopping all the lies and we did have like the last thing we saw for our most recent episode was Charity being like It's my baby.

Speaker: And then we've had all the fallout. Yeah. um And I think the thing that has really kept popping into my head is just how unfair it is that everybody keeps telling Sarah and now Jacob, it doesn't matter that she's not your biological daughter. She's still your baby and you can raise her.

Speaker: It's like, obviously, there is a world in which that could happen. And it does feel like they've both they're both angling for that now. But can nobody just let them process how awful and traumatic this has been that they have been raising? Yeah, they've been raising a baby thinking it was theirs. And then it's like, actually, it's not at all yours biologically. And everyone's like, you just need to come to terms with that and move on.

Speaker: yeah it's like it's been 20 minutes i don't know why you're still having on about this so like would you maybe like a tissue and then you can get over it yeah um i really want sarah at some point to be like this is my aunt like i wrote that in my notes i was like nobody has mentioned the fact that sarah has been raising her aunt thinking it was her daughter but that is so crazy I think Emile was too scared to say those words. i think the implications are too horrendous. Yeah. And it did make me think like they've never really drawn to attention. The fact that Moses is her uncle.

Speaker: Such a complex family, isn't it? There's certainly a lot going on. Yeah. Max not being particularly sympathetic to either of them. ah He's been very angry. I mean, obviously the fact that Sarah has changed her story to throw charity in prison, um,

Speaker: um bit difficult Not ideal. um What is strange is her belief that the police will just believe whatever she tells them most recently and just discard or she'll be like, don't worry, I'll just go and be like, actually, Shaw's not dead. So the whole thing nothing thing doesn't matter. And she was my grandmother.

Speaker: um But I do also want to reiterate, like, if i were if anyone were planning to murder someone, pushing them and hoping that they'll hit their head on a sideboard and die is not, like, that, surely any lawyer would be like, this clearly wasn't premeditated. It's no real plan, is it? Surely they can tell that. Yeah, you're so right. Like, why would the police... just listen to her latest update and be like, you're clearly not a liar. But yeah, surely also they have enough brain cells to realise she didn't do that intentionally. That'd be a really weird way to try and intentionally kill someone.

Speaker: Speaking of lie, there was the quite weird scene between Mac and Jacob in the pub where Jacob called Charity a liar and Mac was like, no, you've crossed a line. It's like, has has he? Because that does yeah feel like a statement of facts at this point.

Speaker: Yeah, like surely the whole thing that Mac found traumatic was the fact that Charity was lying to him about it and when Jacob was like, does it all come down to the fact that Charity is, you know,

Speaker: uh and he was like what are you gonna say and I thought he was gonna say something awful and like bring up her sexual history or something like that and then when he said liar I was like oh oh yeah like I know I because uh Sarah called Charity whore earlier ah in the yeah and I thought that was serious and really awful yeah and got a wallet for it which was also not great um I think he's been a wallet for a while but here we are here we are that's what's happening absolute walloping going on in the book as you title absolutely wall of it yeah i think you're right we found it early doors um yeah i too i also thought he's going to say slag or whore or something and then he's like liar it's like you might well say that charity's blonde like yeah it's not an insult that's just a statement of fact and she actually admitted that quite recently unless she was lying about it so i'm actually not a liar i'm full of truth

Speaker: Only one Dingle can tell any lies. One Dingle can only tell the truth, Lydia. It's a fun new game show. What I did also enjoy in that scene just before Matt came in was when Jacob was having conversation with Eric and he was getting very angry, but I'm like 95% certain the actor playing Eric had no idea what the story was about. He was just like, how are you playing this? just you know Like, I cannot waste time reading other people's scripts. LAUGHTER And then Eric went and stood by the bar and was like sort of listening in, but I wasn't sure if was meant to be listening in. I did also think, I think the actor, if anything, is just trying to get a handle on the situation. It's like, could you go through it one more time? I mean, you a lot of people explaining it. And then obviously Mac yelled it to the pub, so everyone knows now.

Speaker: And that was obviously shocking and very inconsiderate. But did they really think they were going to keep it under wraps? Yeah, I mean, surely, at least now they must know they can't keep it hidden from Leila forever. Yeah, and like it should just be something that she grows up knowing like when you're adopted. And I did think they're really deeping out about, like, we're not her parents, blah, blah, blah, surely just legally adopt her, and then you are.

Speaker: Yeah. As in not biologically, but like you would be in a legal sense. And they've both been raised by people who are not their biological parents. So it's, ah I mean, it's anyone raised by their biological parents in Emmerdale. It's the exception rather than the rule for sure.

Speaker: a If anything, she'll fit in more. Yeah. it's the Yeah. It's a home from home for all of the Emmerdale staff. um I mean, cast? Characters? Horrifying glance into your capitalist agenda for all of a sudden. Sorry. um Something that also came up when she was talking to Kane about it was, does anyone have a heart transplant? Is that something you could even do?

Speaker: a great question. i And I sort of glossed over it. Charity's always stood by you through the heart transplant, through the cancer cancer treatment. and i thought i just thought if you had a heart transplant, you would just sort of die, unfortunately.

Speaker: No, because didn't someone get like a pig heart at some point? That was the whole thing. I think that was big Not in Emmerdale, was in the real world. Do you remember watching a pig heart boy? That was on CBBC. Was that not a science thing? I'm going to look it up i don't I don't think it was a science program.

Speaker: Okay. um nick but Is it possible? we'll find out in today's Dingle The Way. ah Genetically modified pig carts can be transplanted into humans. Big news. But they haven't done it.

Speaker: They did it for the first time in like 2022. Okay, that's probably a future storyline. But it'll just be instead of doing it in a hospital, Joe will just knock someone out and then grab a pig from one of the many fake farms that surround the countryside.

Speaker: I assume, yeah, obviously Joe will be involved in any sort of organ snatching or transplanting. Yeah, he's's it's like a pastime for him and we shouldn't judge other people's hobbies. Oh, but you totally can just have a human heart transplant.

Speaker: Yeah, no, I think, so I guess it must be connected with her health condition somehow. Yeah, I really didn't know that that was possible. Well, I mean, isn't... It's good to have options, isn't it?

Speaker: Isn't medicine wonderful? Yeah. What won't it do? When will it end? and Have we got too far but as gone too far? far?

Speaker: Another big question that we answer. Why do we keep intervening? let bygones be bygones and bypasses be bypassed very good oh dear thank you thank you um i did enjoy and i don't know if it was an ad lib or something that was scripted when sarah went it was one of the times that sarah went to change her story the police officer on the front desk just said sorry that's a civil dispute and hung up on them i was like what what's

Speaker: What police training leads you to just hang up? That's a civil dis dispute. Bye. I completely missed that. I loved it. And I suspect it was probably just, they said, I'll just say something on the phone and hang up. that was the extra ad libbed.

Speaker: Sorry, that's a civil dispute. That's actually an ecumenical matter. and I don't think what would fall into that category if, You're like, oh, I don't like someone's parked over my driveway or something. don't know. Yeah, probably. But also, like, if a witness in murder case is changing their statement, in what way is that a civil dispute? Like, surely the police would be like, I'm interested in that.

Speaker: Oh, sorry, no, he was saying that to some random person on the phone and hung up when Sarah came to the desk. Oh, I did think I've missed this entire scene, but that does make more sense of something I would have not noticed. would be a great way to be a police officer, that wouldn't it? Just every time someone troubles you with anything, you're like, sorry, that's a civil dispute. this Sounds like a civil dispute to me.

Speaker: Have you tried the Citizens Advice Bureau? It's good to confess your murders and other crimes. Imagine coming to Citizens Advice and being like, I actually killed someone.

Speaker: And what would they even do I am a citizen and I'm very much looking for advice. So how would you go about hiding a body? i love the fact that we have Citizens Advice. I think that's probably such an underused service.

Speaker: I've never used it it. think it's like a sort of Hippocratic Oath thing around it? I don't mean Hippocratic. don't know. What do i mean? i do mean Hippocratic The one where you can't tell people things. Yeah, presumably. Like I've had friends who volunteered there before who were like trainee lawyers and that kind of thing. I just think it's so cool that in this country, if you're just a bit like, I don't know what to do and I don't know what my rights are, you can just turn up at Citizens Advice Bureau and be like, this is my situation. And someone who's probably quite professional and just either like not quite qualified or retired will be like, here all your legal rights. Here's the support we can give you

Speaker: Like that's so cool. Yeah, the minister of my church does it or at least has done it. um which I really admire because like, I can't make my own life, like so sort myself out. The idea of me giving advice to anybody, let alone a citizen.

Speaker: It's wild, but yeah, know it sounds like one of those things like at a Victorian philanrop philanthropist probably started. Yeah, true. Again, got out of hand, but in a way that is admirable. Yeah. And England is quite good, I think, for things that have got out of hand in a very lovely way.

Speaker: Like many of us probably would say the NHS is in that case. That's absolutely the case. There should definitely be a Citizens at Advice Bureau in Emmerdale. I think Liam could probably man it quite well. They'd be rushed off their feet, whoever it was. like gosh. I don't think I was trust Liam to give much good advice.

Speaker: And also the fact that he does tell everybody everything that happens in his practice. That's a great point. Manpreet, she'd be good at it. Yeah, Manpreet would be good. I wrote something about Liam in my notes this week. I think I was just basically a bit like, it's nice... to see a bit more of chas like where on earth is liam and then liam was in like one of the next scenes and mac was like shut up liam and i was like that's all we really wanted to hear from you today to be fair probably the best thing mac's ever said and it did feel like something that liam was used to hearing and like that's the thing with liam he's very well intentioned but just quite sort of hapless in the way he does everything and it's like you're just really irritating

Speaker: yes Yeah, absolutely. um So Charity Blesser is in prison and I was a bit worried we were going to go down like another prison drug storyline. um But it did seem like I thought the strip search angle was very clever to us very moving. And yeah and I quite liked what the police took it seriously once they realised their case and it wasn't just like, get back in your cell. sort of you know Yeah, I found it quite moving. It was really powerfully done and powerfully acted by Emma Atkins.

Speaker: I did think like, surely they would do things like check people's files before they like force a strip search upon them. But I don't know what the situation is there. If you like, if you need to know someone's got drugs on them and there's no gender that can do it in a way that doesn't trigger you.

Speaker: Yeah, I guess they probably, if they had known, would have just been a bit like, we know this is going to be really hard for you, but this is something we do have to do. Is there any way we can do it more comfortably? Rather than being like, we're taking your trousers off. Like, it was quite violent. Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah. But, I mean, I always dislike prison stories, so i'm hoping we don't see too much prison time, but. They're very confident they don't monitor the conversations in a prison, wait and not waiting room, like the place where you and meet people. Because Cain and Charity were talking very loudly about who had done what in this murder case. You would think that you would be a little bit more circumspect how openly you were talking. um What I was going say is very related, actually. is like Obviously, the outcome of Cain visiting Charity...

Speaker: was the, you know, cashing in on the St. Christopher, which is a St. Christopher a thing that people know about? Or is it just a uniquely Emmerdale thing? I think it's a Catholic thing.

Speaker: Okay. But I guess the Dingles have that Irish background, so maybe they could... Yeah. Anyway, zaris finally came out yeah, the The outcome of that was that Cain was sort of sent off to try and talk Sarah into changing her statement, which we now know was ultimately fruitless. But, like...

Speaker: Why do people keep saying, oh, you know, well, Cain's the only one that will be able to sort this out. Like Cain's powers of persuasion usually lie in like punching people, not in having good conversations and like reasoning well.

Speaker: Get Lydia on this. I was going to say, if there's anybody who could have done that, it was Lydia. Obviously, she did end up changing her statement in the end. but like why Cain why Cain that was the waste of the Saint Christopher his powers were used on that and why Saint Christopher is rolling his eyes somewhere you like come on sassy Saint Chris just in the corner like you used me for that Speaking of eye-rolling, I really enjoyed Moira's reaction when Kane sat there to talk about something. She's just so over being part of the Dingle family. Similarly, when she had like had to go to Chaz's family meeting, and she was like, what why did I ever agree to be part of this?

Speaker: It would be a lot. She's had enough. If you'd married into that and then you're like, this is actually pure chaos. And so I do in some ways understand Jacob being like, we should probably just leave the village and get out of here. Like, i don't think that Sarah and Jacob should leave. But I could understand why want just get out. And i also found it quite unusual that like everybody's reaction was like, no you can't move away because you've got a baby and this is where your family are. And I do think, obviously, if you are raising a child, having your extended family around is very helpful.

Speaker: But that's not really the norm, is it? Like everyone acts like it's the most impossible thing ever to have a family if you don't live a five minute walk away from everybody in your entire extended family.

Speaker: I mean, and let's go through this. Like Sarah's mum, not there. Sarah's dad, not there. Jacob's mum, not there. Jacob's adoptive mum, not Jacob's stepdad, not there. Like none of their parents are there. Yeah, they've got like random, like they've both got grandparents and they've got like, it like certainly my friends have children don't be like we must make sure we live near our grandparents ASAP. Yeah. It's like a bonus, isn't it, if you can? but I think also because I didn't have any extended family like where we grew up. No, me neither. My model has never been that. My my one thought was Jake appears to have forgotten that he is partway through a medical degree.

Speaker: Yeah, I mean, he did seem to somehow have time in the middle of a working day to be in the pub when he's working two full-time jobs. But, you know, good for him. Life work balance.

Speaker: The mind life does boggle. Life work. Is he supposed to be studying at Leeds? Oh, well, I don't know. is and Yeah, I guess so Because like he lives quite far from there, to be fair.

Speaker: So maybe they were going to... Yeah, maybe going to move to Leeds. That'd be, you know, they'd be just down the road for me. Maybe they'll move in opposite you. That'd be lovely. So true. Yeah, I think actually the three bed semi that is the other half of mine might be coming up for rental soon.

Speaker: and they're very committed to um to method acting so i assume i assume they live together and have a baby yeah i will say oh sorry it's a very loud plane but correct like yeah actually yeah i am by an airfield but they normally don't come in this direction um well i everyone enjoyed hearing ah nations uh not army air force there um yeah i love that possiblyly another nation oh my gosh they'll be obsessed uh work out which airfield i live near just by the sound of that plane extrapolate my gps coordinates

Speaker: oh dear i do think that angry jacob isn't necessarily the most convincing thing in the world but um god bless him god bless america um it just sort of came out um yeah i think i'm with you although i do think that he acted the complete sort of dismay and despair for every well when he first found out about leila and was just like inconsolable and was like and sarah trying to be all like we're gonna be okay and him just being like don't talk to me right now thought that was very convincing

Speaker: Yeah, that was good. Yeah, and I'm glad that Aaron and Mac have rekindled their friendship and Aaron's like going around and giving advice to people again. Seems to be his go-to. It's such a journey for him being like a delinquent to being like, person he gives it advice to literally everyone. Yeah, the agony uncle. Yeah, absolutely. And we said it last time, but it's true. He's looking great at the moment.

Speaker: Looking great. um He, actually, we'll come back to him because I think we should go on to Joe and his complex grief journey. Yeah. Gosh, he is on a complex grief journey and he's truly taking it out on everybody. Every single person. Once again, Clemmie is the most mature person in the whole village. And we love for She's holding everything together. Although we didn't get to see anything that she said or did. And actually on Reddit today, somebody whose username is Jack Departure. So wonder why he's departed too.

Speaker: wrote an excellent episode but is the editing and pacing super off to anyone else it felt like it was two episodes but then edited chopperly into one and I did agree there were quite a few scenes that felt like the moment someone finished their sentence, it was like, bam, we're out. And I wondered whether because we missed an episode this week for the football, did they actually like condense a few down? Because it did feel really weird. And I was like, I would have loved to see Clemmie and Jack, and what's his name? Joe, Clemmie and Joe interact a bit more. That would have felt quite restorative.

Speaker: I'm glad someone else said that because I really, particularly with the Clemmie scenes, like she came through the door, scene over. She said, need talk to you, scene over. And then obviously we know from what Joe said later what it was that Clemmie conveyed in that thing. But I'm sad we didn't get to see it. And yeah, I'd not thought of that like two episode thing, but I think it's probably true. It doesn't even look like that. Stop putting sport over Emmerdale, guys. Watch sport your own time. Sport's rubbish. Emmerdale's great. rubbish. Amen. Yeah, I want a t-shirt.

Speaker: A couple of weird things Joe said in all of this. He said, while we're in self-fitting, won't get the baby bathed. Is that is that an expression? think it might be. It's something about getting a baby bathed.

Speaker: I've never heard it before. I've heard of like not throwing the baby out of the bathwater, but um I didn't know all our all our expressions were so keen to get babies washed. Yeah, why are they so dirty? Why are babies so dirty? Other profound questions.

Speaker: Okay, I don't think it's a phrase because all I've got is, you know, the AI overview thing that Google like relentlessly puts in front of you whenever you Google anything now? I just Googled it. It says, you're completely right. And it takes a lot of clarity to admit that when you're feeling overwhelmed...

Speaker: Like I was just trying to work out whether wallowing in self-pity won't get the baby bathed is a phrase. And you're telling me, how is your energy level right now? If you want, I can help you break down the next few tasks for the evening. I don't have a baby. It doesn't need to be bathed. I'm just wondering where this phrase came from. question Toxic positivity. but I think like this won't get the baby bathed is a phrase I've heard when you're like wasting time and when you're like sitting around and you're like oh I should be doing a bit more i think I've heard like i was gonna say I think I've heard my parents say oh and this isn't gonna get the baby bathed maybe it's a derbyship thing maybe it's a north of Nottingham the thing maybe it's a thing um I mean I've heard fine words went but but no parsnips that's something like those lines And you hate parsnips viscerally. famously hate parsnips to the point that I feel sad that I brought them up. um

Speaker: Speaking of expressions, it's weird how we all talk about sleeping like a baby when babies famously don't sleep well. Just something to Yeah, so true. um The other thing, when Charles came over for this podcast, private church funeral not sure that's a thing um uh where he said your god is cruel and vengeful and dawn deserves better than that i totally get you know i obviously don't believe god is cruel vengeful but i get where he's coming from but then i'm like joe you were also cruel and vengeful like thought don't you be with you if you think dawn didn't deserve cruel and vengeful you should have stepped aside a long time ago you should have let billy take her please he's not cruel or vengeful o much like the lord

Speaker: much like the Lord who is slow to anger. And what's the rest of that verse? Abounding in grace, let's say. Rich in love. Rich in love. I think you're right. Rich in love. Pop that on a tapestry. You're so desperate to ingrain things in places. What else have said?

Speaker: it was Something else you want to put on a plate or something? I don't know. Listen to the tapes. We've got the receipts. We just don't know where they are. and curiously there are a few scenes where Joe doesn't seem to be moving his mouth when he talked which might be strange editing or he might be hear me out a ventriloquist and if anybody in the show is a ventriloquist I think it would be him it's big if but yes i think yeah i can really see it yeah i have sometimes noticed that like they've obviously popped the audio over a slightly different shot but usually it's like of the back of someone's head who's speaking there are some scenes where i was like he just his mouth is firmly shut so i don't know how this is coming out oh you can really tell that i was sort semi-watching and semi-doing some copywriting while having this on because didn't notice that at all

Speaker: Yeah, well, there were no more sparks of sexual attraction between Joe and Billy that were entirely fabricated by me. I can't say I'm massively surprised by that. I'm still popping it down as a potential prediction. Okay, sure.

Speaker: yeah And possibly off the back of this podcast, which I assume the writers listen to. um And you're welcome. Yeah, I mean, I guess it would be another thing that we can 100% know as us, which is kind of nothing, but we like to live in hope. that We like to weave our own tapestry, to go back to the metaphor of fear of the hour. Yeah, we we love a tapestry.

Speaker: It's the only reason we do this podcast. I believe the Bayer Tapestry is currently on tour in the UK, isn't it? It is. I've seen a lot of memes. I feel bad, but I don't really care about seeing it, do you?

Speaker: Well, I don't want to brag, but I have seen it in Bayo. Oh, how did that make you feel? Well, I loved it, I guess. I was in a school trip and it was a highlight.

Speaker: Really? Okay. Well, how bleak was the rest of the school trip and Well, actually, curiously, it was my one moment of popularity. And I don't know quite how this happened. I was like, I was adopted by the popular gang.

Speaker: was i gave where the originals lots of people i bit my brother at one point it became a whole thing um wait were you sort of whipped up into a frenzy by the newfound popularity and you bit colin oh basically and i was thought i would be suspended if he if he had not been my brother which is curious that they they make allowances for biting your own siblings one sense of power and you just went feral Sadly, it was also the week during which we allocated the school buses, which meant I got to the backseat of the bus. I don't know if this was every school bus, I assume it like the cool kids on the backseat. Which meant then I'd spend a year and my corners had quickly faded and around people who actually did not want me on the backseat of the bus.

Speaker: That's quite gutting. What, so they of just phased you out after the tapestry? Yeah, I guess it They caught one look at King Harold with an arrow in his eye and was like... That's now what we want to do to Simon. We will bully him at the back of the bus. Really put things in perspective.

Speaker: Golly, well, I'm, you know, pleased for you, but also, you know, sad, I suppose, that it was short-lived. Yeah, I mean, it was it was good to have a taste of something. um And I don't think I could have lived up to it for the rest of my schooling career. so Maybe it was a mercy to you that it was taken. Yeah, I think probably on balance.

Speaker: I could be more authentic to myself. Lord gives in the takes away. um So Sadie's been causing all sorts of havoc hasn't she just? ah Yeah and I think probably the least convincing thing about anything i've seen in the last two weeks which there's been a lot of quite unconvincing storylines is that Sadie and Nicola would like go for lunch together and be reminiscing about Jimmy and the fact that he's like snoring like you would not sit down and be laughing with your husband's secret lover who you just found out about like you would actually just feel sick at the thought of spending time with them like yeah that's not true that didn't happen i'm deciding that that didn't happen peepa dream unless niggled playing some sort of long game but i don't think she is um the only way i can explain it is by like some complex grief reaction yeah if she's like in denial or yeah her mind is like doing things or like you said if she's kind of double crossing Sadie and there's like a plan afoot but it didn't feel like that's what they were going for

Speaker: No, and i'm i mean I'm glad that we've now learnt probably that Sadie's making it because saw she'd photoshopped the image of her and Jimmy.

Speaker: And of course she decided Nicola's house just to get it out to admire her Photoshop handiwork by flicking back and forth between the photos for a while, which wasn't really a masterstroke of her plan. But it helped us out for sure. Yeah, but it's good to know. And I'm enjoying, yes, I mean, it's I guess it's,

Speaker: It's weird that she's friends with Nicola, but I'm glad that everyone else, particularly the women, seem to have taken against her. So some great like one-liners from Laurel. She likes them married. um That was fun. Yeah, that was nice. Warning to Caleb, because i think there could be a potential affair there. um I loved her passive aggression.

Speaker: um I enjoyed the sort of back and forth she had with Kim and that she shared had with Moira in today's episode ah particularly the line where Moira says do I look like I'm begging and she said i don't know if you want to ask that in those clothes I thought it was quite funny how like when um Sadie first arrived to try and charm Kane slash talk to him about their potential baby who knows um she said like oh and your wife what's her name Morag as if Morag is some sort of insult like that's just a different name like would it be so awful if her name was Morag

Speaker: yeah that was weird and also when she was like you clearly traded down as as though Natalie Rob weren't like objectively beautiful like okay she wears Farmer's overalls but she's clearly a beautiful person yeah literally um yeah it's fun it's bit it's a bit of you know classic soap nonsense but i enjoy it yeah we'd love to see it do we think that the story about her being pregnant with kane's child that she then sadly lost true or not true gonna say not true i think it's a terrible thing to lie about so it's pretty unforgivable but i think not true Yeah, but well i I think based on the small amount I know of her character, i think not true, but she did actually do it pretty compellingly.

Speaker: so yeah it could go either way for me.

Speaker: And i also say because we weren't watching when all this happened, I am wondering what Kane did with these two and half million pounds that he apparently had at one point. Yeah, that's a lot of money. and but Particularly in the 90s or early 2000s.

Speaker: They have fallen upon hard times and I think he if he had it stashed somewhere, he would have got it out by now when they lost the farm and everything. Speaking of stashing money, obviously Sadie is trying to find Jimmy's money and it's hilarious that to me that Robert as you know, he's double crossing her, but he's part of this plan. And apparently what he's contributing is just like having a little look around. yeah Like, what are you adding to this, Robert? I like, and not wearing gloves at all. So his fingerprints are going to be everywhere. And then we had like, sorry, you go.

Speaker: I was just thinking back to when he planted the passports of a memorial's house. Have you learned nothing from double-crossing your neighbours? I liked that Aaron was a bit of a moral compass. Don't take all the money from Nicola and her kids.

Speaker: Robert's just like, but we want to open a restaurant. It's like, what? Is that really the thing right now? Yeah, one of my things that I wrote down is I just don't like Robert being written as this kind of backstabby cross. What's the word?

Speaker: i dot I don't remember. But anyway, I don't like that he's like this because we believe that he changed and Aaron believe that he changed. And I think he's always like a little bit like behind the scenes up to things. I don't think he would do this. Like he would not do this to a grieving widow and Aaron wouldn't be OK with it.

Speaker: No, I agree. like and I found this the same with Ruby when she was double crossing Jimmy. It's like you've got the characters who live in the grey area, but you need them to stay grey. They can't go like full evil like Joe. Because like Joe, we know, and what even Kim, we know they're going to terrible things and some sometimes be nice to some people or whatever. And Robert was quite like that for a long time, but it does feel like he's moved from that into being a better person.

Speaker: Yeah, and now they're making him do this. But I did quite enjoy when he was trapped in the cupboard. And then we had like the strangest scene ever of Bear, Mary and Rodney, who I'm not sure have ever spent any time together. And it's like the writers were like, let's just get three sort people over 60 into the same room. And mary Mary goes, of course, we'd all have preferred it if Jimmy hadn't perished. I wrote that down and down. That is the line the ah of all time. Like, what a way to say it. Like, as though, you know, balance. balance. and And then I just wrote down, this is the weirdest scene I've ever witnessed.

Speaker: And if I were hiding in a cupboard, I probably would close the door rather than just peering through it incessantly. It would, be yeah, it would probably be more logical, wouldn't it? So so All of it was very, very odd. um But I did enjoy it and enjoyed, makes it sound bad, but enjoyed seeing Bear spill his cup of tea and then, you know, all of this stuff happened.

Speaker: Yeah, it was, it was again, classic soap nonsense. And again, Robert's plan just seemed again, said again a lot, was just a sort of rummage. It's like, okay what are you offering that Sadie can't do? You've got no inside knowledge. So true. he And I think it's interesting when you watch um the older episodes from sort of 2014, 15, 16, He is pitched as this sort of like, not criminal mastermind, but certainly a mastermind. And like almost the way that um Graham is now of like, you don't need to know what I'm going to do, but I'm going to sort this out. And he just like finds a way

Speaker: Like he has contacts, he has methods. But yeah, you're right. His main method at the moment seems to be rummage. <unk> yeah and alongside i mean rob ron opening farm-to-table restaurant is a cute idea but it's like do we need that right now what what does that look like does it need to be founded on blood money probably probably not and there's no shortage of places to have dinner in emmerdale already to yeah he used to say that business won't just immediately go under

Speaker: I mean, I don't know how many people are having breadsticks olives in the shop as it is. So there's already too options. There's gingham tables that you hate so much. I hate them so much. And they're so in the way of everything.

Speaker: um yeah I did enjoy Ross going in and being like, you have any footy magazines in the shop? Which apparently are much sought after by the clientele. Yeah, I can't imagine Ross buying a magazine. i didn't know they had magazines in the shop.

Speaker: Ross definitely just has like screen time that's through the roof. well he said it was to cheer up Moses, which because ah that does make more sense. Yeah, that does make more sense. but I mean, it's nice if kids are still reading magazines rather than just finding these things online. Yeah, get them a Bino.

Speaker: Has anyone told Moses about any of what's going on with his mum? Probably not. He probably hasn't hasn't necessarily noticed. He's just always in the room. Yeah, he might have taken it in, so to speak.

Speaker: Well, Godspeed, I suppose. Shall we talk about Vinny and Lewis? Oh yeah, it's all weird and hectic with them, isn't The main thing I wrote down is, Vinny is so rubbish, why doesn't he just say things?

Speaker: Well, on one hand he's not saying things, on the other hand he's saying far too much. Like, stop confessing to random people. Yeah, that is true. He needs to find a middle ground of like communicating clearly with his boyfriend and not telling everybody the fact that he is responsible for multiple deaths in the village. yeah in the pub maybe this is a sotto watch a conversation one would have thought um but it is quite strange to me that they're planning to get engaged because they i think they've only really been going out for a few months vinnie was about to get married to gabby or maybe did marry gabby i can't remember if he's actually married i think they didn't quite get married or did i don't know and now somehow vinnie and gabby are like bffs but they definitely wouldn't have been by now it's all very weird

Speaker: Yeah, they seem to be getting married largely because Kevin would quite like to pay for a wedding. Yeah, it's so true. Although Kevin is now the one being like, don't do it right now. Yeah. And then if you find an engagement ring and you haven't been proposed to don't just steal the engagement ring and propose to the other person.

Speaker: Surely. i mean, I've never been proposed to or proposed to someone else. um ah The day is young, but it's been unusual. Yeah, I think the only person I'm going to see today is my brother. I probably won't. think I would have serious qualms about that. So it would be unusual to forward.

Speaker: I would be objecting publicly and privately. i As with the law courts. so I'm sure. um Yeah, I don't really have anything else to say about Lewis and Vinnie other than it's all a bit weird. Yeah, I mean, click we know, as you mentioned, that Vinnie is on its way out either by vigilante birth, as you suggested, or or by prison time.

Speaker: Yeah. Either way, I don't think Lewis is getting married to him. so we I guess we need another gay in the village to hook up with Lewis at some point. We have to remember that he's bisexual, okay? Oh, sorry. is lewis no Vinny's bisexual, not Lewis.

Speaker: oh i thought you meant that vinnie was going so we needed another gay and i was like he's not yeah oh sorry no just another another person for for lewis because the only people who attract only men who attracted to men in the village are his dad not ideal uh and then wrote an aaron am i forgetting anyone obviously joe and billy and my uh head in your world uh no i think that is it to be fair yeah you're right Do we another that was youth for Lewister? Or maybe the whole Cammie thing. or I know that was Cammie and Vinnie everyone was talking about. but Cammie just popped into my head. But I think... His entirely off-screen relationship with Belle. We don't want that to be threatened. No, I don't see it happening. But you never know.

Speaker: You never know. What's the space, I suppose? Yeah. um I don't think I have anything else on plot points. so I just have stray things to say. you? um Yeah, I covered minor Sadie things, which were that she's a very bad liar someone who lies is Cecilie.

Speaker: um Oh, I think I mentioned that I think she might have an affair with Caleb. um and i And I enjoyed that she very confidently... I don't he was there, but she referred to Aaron as Aaron, which... I heard that, and I was like, that's so biblical of you. And in her defence, they are all named after biblical characters. so Yeah, maybe everybody should be calling him Aaron.

Speaker: Yeah. But it's odd when, like, clearly you... Unless you've read his name somewhere, when, like, why would Sadie have read his name somewhere? You could only have heard it out loud. Like, maybe a script for Emmerdale. For example, yes. I think that's probably the truth of the matter. yeah.

Speaker: Yeah. Surely, like, I mean, Aaron Dingo was, like, one of the most famous characters in Emmerdale. She would know he was called Aaron. Do your research. That's so funny. Yeah. Right, what have you got?

Speaker: um i've got the fact that ruby was sat in the cafe in a strappy top and that was in like yesterday yesterday's episode it's not winter yet but i i put my heating on today you're wearing a roll net jumper right now and a long sleeve t-shirt under it you can definitely tell that they filmed six weeks ago because she wouldn't be wearing that even inside she wouldn't be wearing that Good note. I mean, she doesn't seem as if she dresses for the weather particularly. She was wearing like long leather skirts in the middle of the heat waves. Yeah, that's true. But I think she would be cold. She would be very cold. Oh, and actually, she does look like she runs cold.

Speaker: She was cold blooded. enjoyed seeing Ruby's scene with Joe, not that it got anywhere. And I was surprised that it didn't. I thought she would be able to talk him around to considering the children.

Speaker: But yeah, I'm not seeing that. It was weird that she was crouched largely in a fireplace. but Yeah, that was weird. And I thought, I can see that you're trying to crouch down to get to his level because he sat down, but you're not in front of him. You're like, his side. So he's still just not looking at you and you're just crouching down on the hearth. Yeah, she's too tall for that scene. And that's something she should work on.

Speaker: Yeah, it's odd that Joe has just like decided Caleb and Ruby are responsible for ah for everything that happened, which is, I think, a stretch. And that's because he knew that they were colluding with Billy, it?

Speaker: Yeah, because they told... Billy that so it told John that bill that Joe had attacked Billy which I think they at one point thought was true or Caleb thought was true in the Ruby family but like I mean you stole his kidney if we're playing the Blaine game I think you you're still in the ponds column surely enjoyed element well Gabby's her understanding and kale smoothie which Laurel handed to Bob Ron by saying aid's digestion and strengthens bones which just enjoyed

Speaker: because I doubt this is true. But I will say, i think Gail's story, Gail? Gabby's storyline is being done so well in terms of, we've talked before about the show either doing stories way too fast or way too long. And what I like about this one is that it is clearly a long story they're dropping all these hints.

Speaker: So, and it would be realistically a long-term condition, but it's not like dominating the screen time. So I think this is a perfect compromise of like long story, but we're not bored of it because it's just like here and there and we're like getting a sense of it. So I think they did a really good job with that.

Speaker: It's like drip feeding, isn't it? Which having, having very sadly had a few friends struggle with eating disorders it is it is like that when you just sort of look back and you notice like oh yeah a couple of months because they did say that slightly weird thing and i didn't pick up on it or like they have become way more interested in nutrition or like way way more concerned about this and it's never well in my experience it hasn't ever been like super front and center like really really dramatic until it's got quite far and then you're like oh flip because i think at the beginning they did do it too fast because she was just suddenly collapsing and it was the only thing she ever spoke about. um And maybe that was to like put it on our radars and now they've dialed it back. yeah

Speaker: It's really interesting to see how it's going to develop. And it is a good one to do, i can't remember the right name for it, the condition they're looking at of where you're just become obsessed with nutrition and stuff. Is it orthorexia? That's it. what um Because it's not one that would require the actor to like radically change body shape because you can still like stay the same body shape because it is but it's all about your sort of control issues over food um because they've soaps have previously done like eating disorder storylines where it's very clear that the person doesn't have the physical effects of an eating disorder that you would expect from the stage of the illness they're trying to depict so yeah it's like well done emmerdale doing it well and i hope i hope it's one that is seen through and it's not just like once she admits it they're like oh go for rehab for a weekend and you'll be fine

Speaker: Yeah, we'll have to see. Watch this space. And maybe it'll sort of just spiral somehow into her, like killing someone. oh gosh. A drug storyline. All this kind of thing. I think, you know, it's bound happen.

Speaker: She'll go to, like, some sort of help self-help group where accidentally poisons someone, etc. Yeah, it's it's bound to be the case. Writers, if you are listening, that's not an idea to take. Don't take that Yeah, please don't do that one. um it's Something I did find interesting, which is kind of semi-related, that when um joe decides that he's happy for the funeral to not just be him he's like you're all invited including you gabby like dawn was very fond of you it's like i just kind of thought they seemed to be incessantly kind of brawling and like getting to each other about billy about joe about smoothies about pancakes like very fond are we sure

Speaker: Yeah, like I'd say the best their relationship reached was indifferent. It was really the pinnacle. i think you're right. I guess they lived in the same house, but there's so people living there. You can't really keep track.

Speaker: But obviously Gabby does need to be at the funeral so that she can be wracked with guilt about the whole thing. That's a great point I hadn't thought about, but yes, we're going to have lots of lingering shots of her looking upset, aren't we? Exactly.

Speaker: I'm glad the children to go because it was just so cruel to not let the children go to their mum's funeral. So cruel. Slash whatever. Yeah. And I think like shout out to Ned Porteous for riding the wave of what the writers are doing to his character because he was full out villain, then he was grey area, then he'd been totally humanized and he was in love a Dawn and he was turning into a wonderful family man. And now he's a piece of work. He hates children. he's evil.

Speaker: And you just must get the script each week and think, okay, sure, we're doing that now. And he's good at it all. He's doing all so well. And I think even this, like, being evil thing, you can see... the like the genuine grief wrapped into it and where it's coming from um know you've seen spoilers for next week but it does get completely unhinged in the next step which we're in school here okay i'm gonna have to hold that up but we're not recording it um yeah horrifying um yeah uh my final stray actually is that

Speaker: I've enjoyed that the show is remembering family relations, particularly Robert and Sarah had a conversation and they've really, quite surprisingly, leaned into Marlon and Billy. We mentioned this before, I think, but Marlon being Billy's stepdad in the past, they've sort of remembered that.

Speaker: um Yeah, I mean, someone was saying Reddit, it was sad we didn't get more Paddy Aaron and that seems to like come and go, but... it really is necessary to like some people particularly someone like billy who doesn't have any connections we do need entry yeah like maybe you can move into a marlon that has something etc oh that would be nice yeah i thought that about marlon and billy thing it does feel a little bit like You left this until he really did have nobody, it's nice to see him back. And I can't remember if his mum's alive or not, but she doesn't seem particularly invested.

Speaker: If she is alive, if she's dead, we can give her a pass. I know, I think she is alive. She cropped up at one point or another, but don't remember when.

Speaker: Who's to say? Maybe that was Nate's mum, actually, that I'm thinking of. Nate's mum did pop back, yeah. I think I've been in it before. I don't was ever a full-time character, but she was in like bits and pieces.

Speaker: yeah fair enough well there you my final thing to say i'm sorry yes that ross wears a signet ring but like on his wedding ring finger but on his right hand aren't signet rings just for pinky fingers i don't know anything about signet rings i'm sorry to say oh well maybe i'll do some googling i think i've only really ever seen them on like your little finger So I thought maybe a bold choice or maybe i just haven't been paying enough attention to like signet ring trends.

Speaker: I mean, I guess it's 2026. You can put ring wherever you want. Yeah. go Be free. Be free. Yeah. I think you're wearing engagement ring and refuse to ask any follow up, answer any follow questions. I'm sorry for being so constrained by societal norms. I take it all back.

Speaker: ah please if if next time i see you i want to ring on everything okay fine um also dawn's not funeral ceremony whatever it is as meant to be tomorrow says thatday so does that mean we won't see it i can't really remember what they do about stuff that happens on the weekends in emmerdale do we get Well, I mean, we are definitely seeing it because I've seen some photos of it. I think time is just an illusion, I suppose. Yeah, I suppose it is in life anyway, so it might as well be in Emmerdale as well. What is the time space continuum in this day and age?

Speaker: nobody knows nobody cares um if you do know get in touch at dinglealltheway.pod.gmail.com like segway the writer of the email i'm going to read this week yeah which is our friend james is actually from a while ago but um it's actually from a month ago but no one else emailed so that's what we love james i went with all of it but um he He says, it's by no means of coincidence the show has been better without Marlon, April and co And much better with more Tate storylines. Any days for Serena. Just turns up out of nowhere and asks questions about missing people, murder, etc. i couldn't see that playing out well in real life. At least it looks like Aaron has worked her out.

Speaker: Sort of. um Do we reckon Sarah is going to spend the next few months being hysterical? Yes. I hope not. Yes. yes i do It would appear so. Yes. I'm a big fan of Skittles. Gabby wouldn't be pleased. I'm assuming that's the sweet rather than the barring game. The game.

Speaker: Both good time. Which Gabby famously hates. Yeah. Gabby's like pubs are for drinking and for revealing highly sensitive secrets and not for games. Confessing to crimes, no tendon bowling.

Speaker: um If you'd like an email read, get in touch. Any thoughts on James' email? Yeah, I... Yeah, I don't know if I agree that it's having more of the Tates that has made things more interesting.

Speaker: I think it has, like, the storylines, including the Tates, have been very interesting. I think it's more that we're just getting a broad sweep of a bit more going on across the village rather than, i agree, the um the storyline with the modern-day slavery and, yeah with April, Dylan, Marlon, etc., it did seem to take up a lot of screen time for a long time and we were all ready to have a bit of a break but yeah i think it's quite enslaved by myself it really put me in the position so true yeah maybe it's like not method acting but method watching method watching that's what they were going for we freed ourselves but yeah it's been nice to have more storylines from across the board i don't know if it's necessarily for me because of the tapes but just because of everyone

Speaker: Yeah, I think so. um Farming content, has there been any? and A tractor drove past. I saw that, yep. It was red and it looked quite malproportioned and I thought, is that a i oh Maybe, probably not. I hope not.

Speaker: We've done these in the wrong order because we haven't done our under-name generator, sorry. um But today we're talking about what we think Vanessa brings to the table. Gosh, we haven't seen her in ages. she still alive? well i think I think so, yeah. Because obviously was going out with Caitlin Todd and then not going out with Caitlin Todd and then she died. then she died. And she had some great scenes, didn't she, that I think we spoke about of when she found out that... um ah Charity had been raped by Cailin and like just the sort of dismay and horror of that which were really like convincing but we haven't really seen her since then I can remember have we?

Speaker: No, she doesn't do much other than, like, occasionally try and give charity advice, um which she never takes. So, who ah yeah. Has charity ever taken any advice? Any advice from anyone?

Speaker: Imagine charity and citizens of citizens advice. being Yeah, like, excuse me, Liam slash Manfrey. I... I'm telling people I'm carrying my granddaughter's daughter that I'm not.

Speaker: Thoughts? Thoughts? what am i What are my rights? What are my options? um Yeah, she she's another one who is like interesting character, good actor, feels a bit lost. Not sure how long she's got in the show, to be honest. Maybe when Tracy comes back from attendee leave, that'll get more like sister stuff. yeah that's true i'd forgotten that tracy was coming back rather than that they'd just written her out and that is quite nice yeah well hopefully she will obviously steph went on with taintly even never came back so which i said i miss steph yeah miss steph she was really good addition to the milligan family do you think they'll have another sort of long lost child because they they haven't got nikki anymore they haven't got staff

Speaker: I do wonder if they'll recast one of their children if if the actors don't want to come back. Maybe. Or maybe Vanessa could just play one of their children. Yeah, that's probably the best way. I'd love if they just started referring to her as Steph and that was just like, it's changed now. don't think i could cope if they recast Steph because she looked so much like Ruby. she was so good. She heard and sounded so like her. yeah Yeah, she was incredible.

Speaker: Now, I don't think we've seen Vanessa's son ever. So that's a way of getting her more stories. Like, remember, she has a like 10, 12 year old, whatever he is. He's just always in his room.

Speaker: You know, a story I think would be good to do. EastEnders did this one point, was not a happy storyline, but like abuse from a child to a parent, which I think, because it, you know, surprisingly often happens. And maybe when he gets to be like a teenager, that could be a good story.

Speaker: Well, we did have um Laurel being pushed down the stairs, didn't we? Oh, that's true. What was his name? Arthur, who... Has Arthur moved to Australia? Something like that. you decide not to in the end? I can't remember. None those. um Either way, he's not present. He's no longer with us. Yeah, that wasn't like an ongoing situation, was it? It was just a one-off.

Speaker: So that's something to consider writers again. Get friend go Vanessa Restore, because she's a really good actor. Mm-hmm. I just, at the moment, like we don't need three vets. We don't need another person who Charity may or may not be in love with. yeah ah Yeah.

Speaker: And there's no, are there any other women attracted to women in the village at the moment for her? Mary. Mary, that's true. Close off that love triangle. um but yeah, I don't know about anyone Drawing a blank. I mean, other than of course Charity, but ah any number of people could be bisexual. I never mentioned it.

Speaker: We don't know. It can happen. It can happen. um Well, when Joe and Billy end up together, maybe Vanessa vanessa and Kim could give things a whirl.

Speaker: Gosh, that would be terrifying. Yeah. Maybe they they should do a thing like our unknown generator where they just put two names in and be like, as long as they're not blood relatives, fine.

Speaker: Sometimes it feels like that is what they're doing. Think about Chaz and Liam. Yeah. That's such a good point. No, I don't talk. It is much the best way for to sort of manage that relationship. It's just for it for not simply not to exist. The less they see each other, the better, for sure. Yeah, distance makes the hearts grow wonder. And if you have to forge that distance from within the same house, that's the value to take. yeah Yeah, I wonder when they'll break up.

Speaker: Yeah. Maybe they've just done it off screen. No one's thought to mention it. No one's acknowledged it because no one's noticed. Oh dear. Right. well Well, we'll speak to you again in a couple of weeks. Yeah. And remember, keep dingling.

Speaker: Keep on dingling, as Lisa Riley would say. she'd say. Bye. Bye.
