Speaker: Hello and welcome to Dingle all The Way. I'm Lizzie. I'm Simon. And we cannot believe what's been going on in Emmerdale. We went for months with nothing happening in Emmerdale. I could be like, oh, it's the same plot again. And then the last three weeks, because we had to miss last week, there's been a year's worth of plot. I can't get my head around it. It's been crazy. Every single episode, like five major plot points have developed and And I will say the acting has been incredible.
Speaker: i will also say I watched some of it in the airport yesterday on my way back from Italy and I was sobbing and it was embarrassing. it was an international incident. i I myself had an international incident.
Speaker: Like, yeah, it's been wild. And I don't even really know where to start. Well, should we start with the wedding? Because that has been like the major thing. And then we can do... Everything that spins off from that.
Speaker: So we sort of knew this wedding was coming because when we were on the Emmerdale tour, we couldn't say it on the podcast, although we did hint it, but we saw we saw the wedding marquee at that point intact. And we thought, there's a wedding a-brew in. a bre in Yeah, we certainly knew there was a wedding and I was like, obviously that's going to be Dawn and Jo. I couldn't remember his name then. And look, there were so many people on our tour group who were like, oh, I don't know anyone who's engaged. was like, do you even watch Emmerdale? Have you seen Emmerdale? Obviously it wasn't going to be Chas and Liam, was it? Yeah, we knew that much. We knew, that certainly not them. um
Speaker: There was someone else who, I'm sure there was another couple that someone on the tour was like, oh, do you think it'll be X and Y? And I can't remember who it now. Some other random... oh maybe it was like Robert and Aaron I think someone's like do you think they're getting it's like no babe they're still married to other people well I suppose Aaron is a widower technically but anyway R.O.P. John rip rip rip let him rip rip rip So yeah, Dawn believes that Billy has been left for dead by Jo and so leaves. And she discovers that that is not the case. And I did think it was odd that she was like, she's discovered one evil thing that Jo didn't do. Still quite a few evil things he did do.
Speaker: May we remind her of the limo crash and the kidney stealing and all of that? Yeah. Yeah, and i mean, she did say at one point, remember if it was to him or if it was too Billy about him, where she was like, I see the man that no one else sees. And like, that is the reddest of red flags. Like, if you're ever like, I i see i see him, he's just different to me, doesn't do this to me, he doesn't do everyone else. Like, yeah run, lady, run. I know him in a way that nobody else does. You don't get it.
Speaker: He's my villain. Yeah, and that's how people end up in pen pal loving relationships with prisoners. so
Speaker: But she comes back, she's like, Jo, I'm sorry. Let's hang out in this tent together. Yeah, and I will say, like, incredible work from Olivia Bromley. I know that we're going to talk about so many more things that she had to act. um But she's just ridden all these ups and downs with so much dignity because at no point could I really keep track of what Dawn was thinking or why. and yeah, she was, like, obviously angry with Joe, pro-Billy. And then angry with Billy, pro-Joe. then...
Speaker: trapped in a marquee although in between all of that obviously she had that really lovely scene with joe and that was actually i think what set me off on the big crying because she was just like i love you so much and it was gorgeous and it made me love joe in a way that i now because of how he's treating the children but we'll come on to that Yeah, I did at that point think like has maybe Joe has changed. Maybe that is the direction they're turning. I mean, they did talk about how, um you know, if they will get to this from Nicola and Jimmy as well. But if you ever talk about how you've got a beautiful future with somebody or that things are changing, it's a bright new start. It's like in so world that is essentially sounding. Yeah. And that number is less than one. so yeah so i agree i thought so many people have done amazing work um in acting in this in these few weeks and with you know set design costume design this filming of it it's all been i did i've i've been such high quality content um but yeah i mean we let's set aside the fact that we've never really worked out if dawn was still on her ploy or if she employed think she is unemployed
Speaker: yeah um Yeah, because obviously she had that scheme with Moira that seems to have gone by the wayside. but um And speaking of schemes that didn't make sense, like couldn't really work out why Caleb started blackmailing Billy just because he wanted Joe to like be dumped to the altar. It's like, does it really matter to you rather than to the gods of the plot line that this happens on their wedding day? It does seem like he's really chosen his moment to get kidney revenge.
Speaker: but he's like it's got I've got a whole aesthetic planned and it involves it's a lot of white that much I've visualised it's white and it's jilting but you know for for plot reasons it all had to get to hear around that yeah it truly did yeah so they are obviously trapped in the marquee should we talk about Jimmy and Nicola, their side of things. Yeah, so at the moment, that dawn it was just such a good ending to an episode, did not see this coming, where Dawn was like, I want to marry you, and waiting for Jo to respond, and then the van just crashes through.
Speaker: um They both do seem to jump of the way quite successfully, but that's still causing any number injuries. But guess, yeah, they're trapped in the wreckage and pylons and things more than anything else. That's true, yeah. Jo is impaled, apparently, on some... Yeah, I think he was sort trapped underneath. And then it looked like there like a very small pole that they were terrified when it fell. And I was like, that just looks like a minor plank of wood compared to like the huge pieces of metal and the electrical sparks that are everywhere. Like, are you zeroing on that small plank?
Speaker: Yeah, why was everyone so, like, sort of Damocles terrified about it? And I was like, a marquee's fall down all the time. yeah you' You'd be enveloped in fabric in a way that might actually be quite restful. Think of it as a weighted blanket. um But yes, Jimmy, Jimmy careens in and it quickly becomes clear that dear sweet Jimmy is bleeding to death.
Speaker: Yeah, I couldn't quite work out what was going on. Are we saying he didn't have have like legs anymore or something? Because it was like, he looked fine, but below the waist, all was not well. It's a classic Jimmy story. but um Yeah, because I thought they did it very well where they obviously can't show huge amounts of blood and terrible injuries, but just like them both looking down in horror at whatever was going on below the thigh. Something was being mangled.
Speaker: in a difficult way yeah yeah in a way that really would come back to bite him but uh yeah it was it was interesting like lee like not super dramatic at first because jimmy was so chill like he wasn't and i thought it's a really interesting way to play it he wasn't like screaming and anxious he was just like i guess when you lose a lot of blood very quickly you do go woozy and um yeah i enjoyed nicola like cycling down on her little bike and singing along to what was she singing I can't remember. can't remember, it was great. Something sort of poignant.
Speaker: Supposedly we're at home farm. As we can say, it was on the like the field just next to the village. Yeah, it was on the road into the village. Yeah. But apparently we're farm. One funny moment was Dawn was like, I can't see, there's so much smoke. And there was no smoke at all in that tent.
Speaker: I enjoyed that. But um yeah, then it's time for Nicola and Jimmy to ah have their moment. I know. And it was this, like I was gone by this point already, but it because you really made me cry. And it was so kind of like, I don't think we often get to see Jimmy or Nicola again.
Speaker: acting like seriously because they're often doing comedy storylines and like just being a bit like silly and fractious and playful um but yeah I thought it was so gorgeous and like it was interspersed with the humor of like when Jimmy was like I could eat and like literally offered him like a scotch egg or something um But yeah, just like really lovely moments between them and how much they love each other and that sort of slow realisation from Jimmy, first of all, being like, I don't want you to worry about me. Like, and obviously trying to cover it up and be like, can you just check on Joe and Dawn and like being really kind about it and then being like, don't want to panic you.
Speaker: but I don't think I'm going to get out of here. And it was just like, oh you're so kind and like breaking it to her so gently, but then also being like, but i want you to be the one with me when like this happens. And oh, it was so much. Yeah, it was so moving. And then their vow renewal, like, I couldn't work out if if it was meant to be them planning, they were saying it and that was either like visualising it or is this like an alternative? I didn't know, whatever. I don't care. it was so it was like ah It was a mental image, I think, of what they wanted happen.
Speaker: And mean there are so few couples, or no other couples in Emmerdale who have lasted that long. um They've had a few bumps in the road with like you know amnesia children, et cetera. But um it's generally just been relatively plain sailing and they haven't been lines.
Speaker: front row actors they're not always getting the A storylines but it's not like they're together because we never see them we theyve they've they're just so believable as a couple and i think it it is a real shame that we've lost that longevity and that stability um I don't think they should have axed Jimmy frankly i think it's wild we're in a world where Bob is still there and they've axed Jimmy but um and we're never going to hit get to hear him say Nico again know Nico Nico um Yeah, so it was really beautiful, very moving and in the episode since.
Speaker: which will come on too like Nicola Wheeler it's been incredible insane slow good so my main takeaway is that if I ever have to hear River Flows Anew by Yoruma again I will murder someone there'll be another death that happens from this think it was maybe because I was like watching a lot of it in a block I was just like this was kind of emotional the first time I heard that like little piano riff and now I'm just like don't can't I can't hear it again and There are any number of people who managed to get there before the ambulance. They really did take their time. They really took their time. I love that Cammy was there for some reason. Like, why was he even going to their wedding? I know that the whole village was invited, but you would be like, I actually don't know either of you. I suppose Belle knew Dawn and he would be like a plus one.
Speaker: I guess so. Yeah, that makes sense. But still, yeah. But still. mean, good for him. Why not? Good for him. Obviously, he looked great in the suit. course. But like... I personally would have been like, i might not go to this random wedding. Yeah.
Speaker: Shebs, your agent is not replying to our emails. Just the way. Simon, stop being so desperate. got I wish I could stop. Don't you think I wish I could? Don't you think I know I have a problem?
Speaker: Don't you think this is this whole podcast is now just a way for me to communicate with Shebs? I think you need to take a deep breath. if Oh dear. But yeah, they turned up eventually. And then, but of course, by then the tents on fire, so i know and i won't say it wasn't the most realistic fire in the world like' know pool and my main thought was if there's petrol leaking out of car and like something is sparking why doesn't the person who still sort of has legs just nip out and turn off the power supply to the marquee because have thought that would be incredibly like obvious like there would just be a huge cable running across the field
Speaker: just a wow but i didn't even think about that but that's so true that's such good point thank you it's because i'm very safety minded she's done her courses I've certainly got a b-tech in something I haven't got a b-tech unfortunately I wish I did um one ah the tent explodes and somehow Jo survives that yeah that was different and I love like honestly love that Graham ran because I think that's very sweet but that was really dumb Yeah, I mean, I wish he had died, and if I can be honest. but Graham or Joe or both.
Speaker: Oh, Graham, I'm quite happy pleased that Joe survived. yeah i'm just I did find all of the emotional scenes re-Joe this week quite trying that Graham had to be involved in them because it really takes me out of it. I actually thought it humanised Graham in a way that I hadn't felt before. Especially because when I saw him in the three-piece suit and the tie in the next episode, I thought, gosh, did he?
Speaker: I think he was not wearing the full get-up on the marquee day, which is big from him. That's huge. He's not done that since he were went camping with someone else's child that makes it seem more like a safeguarding issue than it was well so the whole of embell the whole of embell is a safeguarding issue with as discussed yes um i yeah so what now we've got oh yeah joe of course said to dawn we forgot all the time in the world that was a mistake don't say that that is a crucial trigger for death and how does how does dawn die after all that
Speaker: She just bleeds out in a hospital bed because the nurse didn't do any orbs. Yeah, in fact, I just want to quote from the Facebook group Home to the Farm. I got permission from Heather to quote what she wrote. She said, I know it's a Soph, but CPL with the hospital gown intact, those tough guys are straight out getting that bad boy off. How long did it take for that guy to get the bag valve mask in place? Great mid-time to rough up Billy and still no one has opened her airway, let alone delivered a whiff of breath to poor Dawn. It's no wonder she make didn't make it worst crash team in the world. A whiff of breath. Yeah, I did think the whole thing was quite improbable of like...
Speaker: nurses being like, we need to do like all of your obs and like check your vitals and stuff. And Joe just being like, can we just have like five minutes to ourselves? And then they never went back and checked. to me like It's like when you say to a waitress or waiter, like, i go we're not sure yet.
Speaker: ah Can you come back in in a few minutes? They're never coming back to that table to get your order. It's like the nurse was like, well, you have you had your chance and you missed it. Sorry, you're going to die now. Yeah, Dade and Talbeth, very Victorian. Very Victorian, actually. Yeah, it's so true. um Yeah, I guess Dickens would have loved it. Speaking of Victorian, I was in Lincoln the weekend for a Christian festival, as I mentioned to you before, and I well i was in Lincolnshire and I popped into Lincoln and was just surrounded by steampunk people. I'm so sorry. So for those who don't know, steampunk is like Victoriana meets sci-fi sort of thing. So lots of like Victorian gowns, but with like goggles and wires and things. And was like, I'm just trying to park. If you're so committed to the bit, why aren't you on a horse and carriage? That happened to me once. We took my dad to um Whitby for his 60th on a steam train. i didn't realize it was like sort of steampunk vampire festival weekend or something and my parents were of course terrified rightly so i mean it's very innocuous people it's people you're like oh god bless you for finding this avenue and your people and i love that you found your people but i really wish you hadn't taken up all the parking spaces in lincoln yeah gosh and quite the crossover as well to have that next to the christian festival
Speaker: That's true, actually. And I was just trying to find my friend Jill, who worked in a bookshop there, but turns out she retired two years ago, so she wasn't there. Did you not check with Jill while you started sort of pursuing her? No, it was it was quite spontaneous. Okay, a spontaneous pursuit.
Speaker: Yes, a spontaneous pursuit. um So Dawn does hemorrhage, we assume. Another thing where we don't see too much blood. I think it was clever. I think we were meant to think the blood on Herbert Gann was from like Joe's leg or something. Because we see him walk out, we see blood on his gown, then we see him collapse the ground. But he just he just needs a bit of iron or something. He peps up immediately. Again, no one in the corridor to assist a man who's recently beaten a tent that exploded, like just collapsing on the ground. Yeah, i know. And I would have thought not very believable until I remembered that um my friend Philip also collapsed after surgery in hospital and no one noticed. And he was just passed out by the side of his own hospital bed in quite a traumatic way. So I guess like the NHS is just quite understaffed, isn't it?
Speaker: At the end of the day. I suppose it is. Yeah. um It's amazing. Doesn't even have any burns. a really, intrigued. Maybe he's just, maybe he's a ghost actually. So that's something to consider. he's turned into a mist which is what you always say you wish you were i wish they were a mist they wish her he's my new mist idol yeah um and graham sadly is not dispensing tips to people about how if they lie really still they'll come back from the dead he just goes out and says dawn is dead this thing bizarre like okay there's so maybe we could sugar the pill a little graham yeah she's had a major hemorrhage and she's out of here I found it very emotional, the sort of scene of the CPR happening and like Joe just like in complete despair. And then I think they'd cut it in with scenes of Nicola and the children like finding out that...
Speaker: Jimmy was dead and oh it was all just a lot I was in bits as you know so much going on it was you were you moved like I'm trying to work out how much was just me being very sort of emotionally drained and tired from my holiday and how much was I think I was just actually really in the moment with them Yeah, I mean, I have recently started a medication that is making me slightly less emotional than usual. So it's hard to know what's me and what's the meds right now. I've taken on all your sort of like spare emotions, whisked away from you by the SSRIs. pretend we don't know is the thing but um we're not scientists per se but it's possible um so i was very very very moved by everything to with nicola i do like the children we love we love the children they're not like necessarily hungry um they're not necessarily like the most natural actors in the world So um it did take me out of it a little bit with the kids. sure um
Speaker: And i am very moved for Joe, though. I was also like... it wasn't very long ago you you hated her so it's they've been so back and forth like it's true it's not like Nicola and Jimmy where like they've been together forever it's like I would not have been surprised if this wedding hadn't happened or if you'd broken up like two weeks later so yeah it's quite the same like life ending thing whereas I felt really bad that Graham was just like wrestling Billy out of the place it's like a he's in love with Dawn and has loved her for a long time but b he's the father of her children like why is he flung out the hospital When he was saying like, you have absolutely no right to be here. And I was like, I think he has like a right to be there. I think he also has like, he probably should be quite cautious and be like, I know that this is like a bit of a situation, but like, is there any way I could see her rather than being like, I have to go in and let me see her. But like, I think being like, there is no reason that you should be here is a bit of a stretch.
Speaker: Yeah, it's like, Graham, why are you here? Like, surely there's more reason for Billy to be there. I was thinking that. And, like, I feel like more than ever, Graham and Kim have been, like, turning up to things together and that sort of thing. And, like, nobody is batting an eyelid. Nobody's being like, that oh, yeah, that's weird.
Speaker: It is quite weird that he still lives there and all of this, I don't know. Yeah. Yeah, die again, please. um And ah actually, if you can go back a bit but before we get into other stories, because I've got a few like Dawn things from before that. Yeah. um So Dawn, thought she almost shoots him. I can't remember who she almost shot. Did she take a gun to threaten? I think that she did almost shoot Joe.
Speaker: It was when she was planning to leave and he was meant to going on his statue. And then he just couldn't bear the thought. of her going for a drink with some friends or something. Or like her friends bailed on her and he was like, this is awful. And I was like, she probably is just fine with having a night to herself. But anyway, he threw her a Sten.
Speaker: Hate that word. Yeah, I've heard hag do, but I've not heard Sten do before. think I'd rather have a hag than a or hag.
Speaker: We should do some sort of poll. Um... Yeah, and then she was like aiming the gun at him and that sort of thing. It was all a lot. It really wasn't the perfect crime if she just shot him in in plain sight in front of many other people.
Speaker: Quite traceable. Yeah, and Billy said, you didn't shoot because you're a good person. I'm like, it's quite a low bar, isn't it? Yeah, I think not shooting someone is sort of the bare minimum in a moment way. Really is...
Speaker: Like, I've not shot anyone at any point. let So, and that hasn't been a struggle for me personally. Yeah, no, me neither. I did find the whole, like, are they leaving? When will they leave? Will they get caught thing? A little bit tiring. And, like, nick Graham was sort of like, shackled in a barn.
Speaker: He did what he loves doing. He had to lie really still. Yeah, so It's great when you have the opportunity to do what you love most. um I also wondered about Joe's friends. Like, A, does Joe have friends? And B, have they all are they just now stranded in Prague without him? Have they all just gone to this? The stag do that he was on his way to. They're like, oh, the groom's not done that.
Speaker: Yeah, different. Yeah, I just think, I don't buy that he has friends. I think he's like paid for them to love him or something. Yeah, maybe there was no perspective. Not that I don't think anyone would be friends with him, because I think they would, but that he never spends any time with anybody other than Dawn, Graham, and Kim.
Speaker: So I just don't think he has friends. Yeah, I think if I had a friend who stole someone's kidney, that might put me off returning their texts. You might distance yourself from the stern.
Speaker: Yeah. I mean, I'm quite conflict-averse, so might not raise it, but I just, like, quietly ghost them. I would start to work some distancing. Because as far as I know, I've still got both my kidneys, and I'd like to keep them. Yeah, i hope you would know. Is that the correct number of kidneys? Yes, I think so.
Speaker: I've got all three, so. Three? I mean, I've never rummaged around in there, so I don't know... um what's up kidney wise or they did have an ultrasound a few years ago and they didn't mention any errant kidneys thank goodness for that um something i've really enjoyed is that we always ask for friendship and like more like friendship scenes and seeing laurel and nicola has been a highlight for me a like when it first happened and laurel like closed up
Speaker: the hide and then just like ran over i just thought that was so lovely and then yeah I've been like looking out for her that scene where she was just stroking her hair and you just think friends are so important and when Nicola obviously in her grief like kind of had a go at Laurel and was like you can't compare what happened with Ashley to this is so unfair and then was like oh no this is like like that's just so real isn't it and friendships go through real ups and downs and it's about sort of like choosing to still love each other and work through that so i've really enjoyed seeing laurel and nicola absolutely and it's the sort of thing that can only happen because they've really like invested in that friendship in the show over many many years and that's why we're always saying want more friendships because you can't just fabricate a friendship and then expect the same level of like emotional support or emotional resonance with the viewer doesn't feel real yeah
Speaker: And I can't really remember nick what happened when Ashley died, but I assume Nicola was there for Laurel. Sounds like it. Possibly embroiled her in subplot, I don't know. But um ah yeah, and a speaking of like really like sort of nuanced reactions, I thought... um when Nicola heard that Dawn died and that Jimmy was responsible or still, she thought Jimmy was responsible.
Speaker: I thought it was so such an accurate thing that she'd be like, Oh no no he can't even have a good death. He can't be mourned properly because everyone's going to blame him. And that's such, such a believable response where you're like, Oh, obviously sad for Dawn, but now everyone's going to hate him. Um, so yeah, I thought that was lovely. And they, and you know, I've enjoyed the, um,
Speaker: the villagers in general responding. Although there was a scene where like just random people in the pub were reminiscing like Matty, like just what memories of Matty got of Jimmy. I don't know. And then Eric started his like toast by saying we weren't close. It's like, maybe just don't say anything then, Eric. Yeah, maybe just like let other people. I never met the guy, but for a distance, I thought he looked really nice nice. I like him as a concept. Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah, i mean, I wouldn't go to a funeral and be like, I once saw this person and therefore I've taken the mic. He was five love He was certainly alive and now he's not.
Speaker: That's the main thing you know. The gist we want to take home. Oh Oh dear, yeah, bless them all. It has been rough. And I feel like for some reason, the main sort of plot point that's been highlighted is whether or not Elliot's going to go to uni. and has nobody in M&L come across the concept of a student loan is my big question. That's true. And yeah, there's a lot of money, but you don't have to pay it up front. It's literally just like a tax. Like I don't even notice that I pay it because it just like it's like a hundred quid or something.
Speaker: a month or maybe less than that. Yeah, I mean, someone did say to him, what are you going to do with an English degree, which I thought was hurtful say as the owner of several. And what do you do with it, Simon, realistically? Come on. What do you i do? um Yeah, that it is weird that that is top of mind. It's like, mean he might want to take a gap here or something because he's grieving, but I don't think you need to worry about the finances of it. because Yeah. if and I mean, was Jimmy's life insured? I don't know. It might actually be a boon.
Speaker: I also thought that, like, In Scotland they didn't have fees. As only if you're Scottish. Okay, fair. Yeah, I just think like, obviously it is a lot of money to be in debt with, but it's not real debt.
Speaker: It's not the kind of debt that affects your credit rating. It's not the kind of debt that like people are going to come knocking on your door. Yeah, it's just like everybody has about 50 grand of debt from uni.
Speaker: you're never going to pay it off anyway. It doesn't matter. I hate to interrupt that I went before fees. Oh, shut up.
Speaker: I have 50 grand of debt from you. But it makes no difference to my life and I'm never going to pay it back, so I don't care. i basically got a free degree and so did everybody my age. like I don't really understand why this is factoring into their decision making.
Speaker: yeah it was a very moving scene where carl was like i have to be i to do chores and things of otherwise you'll get rid of me and that was really sweet um i sort of keep forgetting which of them is from a sperm donation mix up and which of them is from so someone else i forget I think they did talk about it in the pub in like today's or yesterday's episode, but I also can't remember because it all just becomes a big blur in my mind. But needless to say, that family is a mess and only more of a mess now, but they will all stick together. Brackets, hopefully.
Speaker: Hopefully. We've got a lot of grieving children in the village now. Literally so many grieving children. At least six, potentially more. Well, I mean, Evan probably won't notice, bless him, but... in later life he will have plenty of trauma unfortunately yes he will and poor clemmy is like the only level-headed that's one amongst them of course she's she's doing the heavy lifting for the village of like emotional maturity yeah i know she's just holding everyone together
Speaker: she is a middle-aged woman bless her yeah yeah i like at one point just for this all kicked off she said to dawn i thought you're getting married like like it was like i thought you were gonna go to boots or something it was just like something i thought you had in the diary for today but okay sure i felt really sorry for clemmy and lucas when joe was like you're billy's problem now i thought it was awful And so mature of Lucas to be like, I know that wasn't real. I know don't mean it.
Speaker: I know, but then he just reinforced it. or whatever Yeah, exactly. Yeah. And like, I know obviously Joe is grieving, but I do think he's, although Billy is making some unusual choices as well in terms of like the day after Dawn died, being like, the kids really miss you, Joe.
Speaker: i think you should see them. It's like, maybe just give him a bit of space. I'm not saying that he, was right to say what he did to the kids but you are but like this is quite a quick turnaround and like all of the children in village in the village just seemed to be being plonked anywhere and everyone was like well rona's got them now and then mandy's got them and then this person's got them and you're like maybe you should just put them in one place let them have a little bit of time they've just lost their father slash mother it's like maybe maybe concentrate on how the kids are feeling for a second yeah a
Speaker: And no one needs to alert any of Jimmy's other relatives since they've already all died. She's truly the only one there. Actually, his stepsister still around, Scarlet. wonder if anyone's like, hang on. And we did get a little mention of Rose, Dawn's mum, who was yeah around for a second. Yeah, I noticed that. um Something confusing.
Speaker: Yeah, i mean, why would she be, bless her? Something confusing I found was that um Gabby kept saying, I can't believe Uncle Jimmy's gone. Yes, because so suddenly she's recalled that they are sort of uncles. So her mum is Bernice, who is Nicola's half-sister. Okay.
Speaker: Jimmy is her uncle by marriage, sort of. Okay. Because I was like, you've literally never mentioned this before. She's never called him Uncle Jimmy before. In fact, she's maybe never looked at him before Yeah, she was like, which one was Jimmy again? Next time she sees i't like Bob, she'll like do a double She's like, what? I thought you died. I can't.
Speaker: Have you done the classic lying still? you tried lying very, very still? It's the miracle cure. Kim also referred to the baby as her great-grandson, which I don't understand how that's the case. No, because I thought that... Oh wait, no, that does make sense. If Jo's of her step-nephew or something, if your nephew has a child, does that make that your grandson? No, it doesn't. I think you know that's not the case. And then when she was in the hospital, she was like, I know it's complex, but Joe is my son. to maybe that's when she was in the police. I don't remember. But I was just like, make your mind up, love. Like, you can't be all of them.
Speaker: Yeah, I mean, I think it's really a stretch to call him your son. But sure. OK, fine. Yeah. We can go with that if you like. And I guess if we're saying that Graham is a surrogate father, then they are his parents in a way. Oh, my gosh. It's doing a lot of heavy lifting there, isn't it? And Graham did keep saying that he'd known Joe his whole life, and I don't know the backstory there, don't care to find out. He also found hitherto unheard of levels of gruffness to get to. He's just down here all the time. It's like, wow, I mean, grief make you become deep base? Is that what's going on? Apparently, yeah. It's like below the base. It's his second base. He's a second base. He might have actually...
Speaker: stretched the understood realm of human speech. And good for him, in way. for him. We love it. You've got to take your wins where you can. Gosh. It was hard to listen to. It's all a Sorry, it's just not my Graham hate, but I just wish he weren't there at all. And I did enjoy it when Joe just sort of wandered away while Graham was talking. It's like, yeah, I get it.
Speaker: wrote that It was so funny. Because they often do a thing where like someone's and they turn around and you realise with the character that the other person's not there. But I enjoyed that we got to see Joe just wandering off. Yeah, like whilst I did agree it with Graham's sort of the thing about like, don't inflict your pain on your baby.
Speaker: It was Graham saying it and it was quite boring. And I do get why you would just walk away halfway through a monologue for Graham. perfect ah One other note on Dawn said to Kim that you've always been so good to me that before the wedding. was like i thought really She drugged her at one point and tried to let her children take away from her.
Speaker: Yeah, always been so good to me. A bit short term memory does help in Emmerdale, doesn't it? It does. I mean, lest we forget, it wasn't even that long since Dawn pushed Jo out of a window.
Speaker: That was actually sort of the me cute as far as I can tell. They were very much still together. mean, together already, but yeah. If anything, it really amplified the relationship. It brings you closer to someone, I think.
Speaker: Whilst also literally further away. yeah um But this is not the end of Nicola's Woes. What happened next? Yeah, Sadie returns, who I did have to Google, obviously. um Long lost lover of Jimmy or present lover of Jimmy.
Speaker: What do you think? So she came down helicopter, even though I don't know much about the character, somehow did know about the iconic landing in a helicopter the first time she came. So that's just the way she comes to Madel. I didn't realise that that was like a throwback.
Speaker: Yeah, I think I must have read about it in Inside Soap back in the day or something. It really ree took stuck with me for some reason. um So we don't know much about her because we neither have seen her on screen before, but we know that she sort of lies, basically. um So I don't think she's telling the truth.
Speaker: She's got photos of Jimmy. She's got like, she knows details about their lives. She showed one photo. She showed one photo, that's true. which could And that definitely just could be AI. Yeah, I think it's AI. I think it's not true. And I think it's really gutting that she's doing this.
Speaker: Yeah, I mean, i just don't think Emida would do that to a legacy character who is renowned for being a nice guy. which i don't think they would tell us his reputation. It does feel a lot that Nicola didn't even have like a day to grieve before these new revelations. I feel like maybe it would have been better to do this like a week later or something. So that she had a bit of time to have a proper response. But it's hard to know what Sadie's rationalist. We did see her like rooting through a cupboard looking for something. don what i think, doesn't she sort of have a reputation for being a gold digger trying to get money? But then they were on the phone.
Speaker: So he definitely had money for her. He definitely knew she was in a hotel. And I wonder if it's, is there like another child that we don't know about maybe? Yeah, maybe. And they're like still friends because of that.
Speaker: Yeah. Or like it's a sob story that he thought she needed, maybe she does need help, but like they didn't have any money. So it's not like she can't be doing this to get in the will or something because it's not much. Yeah. Unless the reason they don't have any money was that he was giving it to her.
Speaker: Yeah, because there is that thing where, like, you know, truck drivers are away from home a lot. He could have, you know, it does, you know, there's room for it to have happened. But I just, yeah, I'm sad now that, you know, I'm sure it's not true, but I think she's around for six months. So know it's those things we're going to find out months down the line that it's not true or if she's, you know, is going to stick around for other reasons. Is it going to be like the slurry and we never, ever see justice done? Yeah.
Speaker: I know, surely the secret's going to come out. But not before she has an unlikely romance with someone. But who might it be? Um, Cammie? Cammie! Oh, Cammie, no. Stay away. Did they say at one point that she'd also been with Kim?
Speaker: Kim? Like, I thought... Okay, because I thought when there was somebody who was, you know, helpfully for the viewers being like, who's that? Someone was like, oh, um an old flame of Jimmy's and also Kim's.
Speaker: But I might have misheard it. Well, yeah, and I did really enjoy the nod to the fact that... Oh, Kane! Kane! Also Kane. Kane! I misheard it as Kim and I was like, I really didn't see that coming, but like, I will believe anything this point. Okay, that makes sense. Yeah, I enjoyed that she didn't recognise Robert in the pub because obviously it was a different actor. I was like, that's a nice little nod to the surgery that they did. You've changed. You've changed. You're almost unrecognisable. Yeah, we love those little nods. That was fun. Yeah, that's good.
Speaker: So yeah, lot of people do seem very quick to believe her story. But I did like when Nicholas said something like Jimmy couldn't manage a double life, he could barely manage one. And that is true. Anybody who encountered Jimmy knew that he wouldn't have been able to keep on top of that.
Speaker: no like best no so i mean i hope we find out i i don't know if we're gonna see him again if we're gonna have like movie film scenes that were revealed later but yeah i don't know i don't know and speaking of things that we've seen in sort of like strange dreamlike sequences vinnie and gabby on the phone You know, suddenly vi the whole thing has suddenly become ah PSA about using your phone whilst driving. yeah which we, you know, is a good thing. you shouldn't FaceTime and drive.
Speaker: You should not. You might someone the road. not in a cradle. Yeah. ah Yeah, so true. He was just sort of holding it. um So we were doing like lots of like Gabby looking anxious and obviously were trying to steer us towards assuming Gabby had caused it. Which I obviously fell for. Yeah. I sort of fell for it, but I was also like, surely it they would give us a little more time. I don't Anyway, turns out. no You know soap so much better than me. Yeah.
Speaker: turns it's Vin-Vin and he didn't have the most convincing cover story Gabby where he's like yeah it's just like a deer or something and then yeah a deer or something yeah um but don't worry i'm fine um so i mean it's still confusing to me why jimmy would ah veer off and then like drive fully across a field rather than just like breaking and like and arriving just slight because he didn't like get knocked out or anything he was just like yeah true i guess he just sort of lost control of the car and couldn't stop in time and i guess don't know because someone did say i think on reddit or something like we know there was that thing recently where caleb what was no wasn't cami cami came in and talked about like dodgy brake pads or like selling fake brake pads so true i thought it was like exhaust parts but maybe it was the brake pads maybe it's brake pads because that was well can you mention and then caleb was doing it but is that is that all involved i don't know because that could be whole other thing
Speaker: Although bad break packs would make you like squeak when you break and break slower. It wouldn't necessarily mean you careened through a tent. and unless it does I guess if he just couldn't break in time. Yeah.
Speaker: Then that could be it. And we do know, spoiler alert, that Vinny is on his way out. So it does suggest this could be. Oh, did you not know that? Vinny's on his way out. As in they're axing the character or he's going to die. Or I mean, ah that would mean the same thing. But.
Speaker: Well, yeah, they're axing the character. way. How do you know that? It was on Digital Spy. gosh. you You just keep abreast of everything, don't you? It's always on Digital Spy. Gosh, maybe he gets killed in a revenge plot.
Speaker: Ooh, I was thinking prison, but yes, could be that. Yeah, could well be prison, to be fair. That does seem quite likely. um Oh, bless him. Yeah, I do think that he will crumble quite quickly once the pressure is on. Yeah. Although, a little upside. He's a lot of people already. He's quite keen to just confide in anyone who like glances at him.
Speaker: pays him the jot of interest i thought it was quite sweet the way that him and gabby are obviously still friends and like he's someone that she'll call when she's in a time of need um i want to see his friendship with kimmy with kimmy with cammy come back with one because like obviously cammy wasn't the most helpful when he was embroiled in that blackmail plot he did try he really tried and i think he would try to help him now i'm like kev he's like why would you tell kev who's clearly very close to nikola um like fyi did kill everyone yeah well everyone yeah i know and i really loved um kev's response actually of just like i am trying to stay calm but this is like yeah i just thought it was so believable the way that he reacted yeah and like how many people are you going to tell before it becomes just an open secret Yeah, it is quite tricky.
Speaker: um Can we also talk about the fact that you called Kev and Nicola a long time ago and now I think it will be happening. It's true, so Nicola did kiss Kev in a sort of like, oh if Jimmy had a fake family, then I'm getting on the apps, which apparently she's just got ready to go. like I know, she already had like Hinge just loaded up in the wings.
Speaker: Yeah, and i thought it was nice how she... they're like I know that's not about me I know that's grief-wracking but yeah clearly i hope it's not soon i don't want her to but move on immediately but eventually that's happening isn't it I think it is gonna happen eventually but yeah I also thought like oh this feels like quite quick and if it happens I want it to be because they've both thought about it and they want it rather than it being a reaction to like the sadness um but i was like that's nice we like that yeah in six months time
Speaker: yeah exactly time do it maybe at Christmas maybe at Christmas lovely um bless her I enjoyed the Spice Girls going on and that Jimmy and Vinny were both singing along to two become one Yeah, was Become Dead, more like. Wow, okay, rude.
Speaker: think To Become Gone, if that was better. Yeah, you can edit out the first one. To Become Gone, more like. I might make that the episode title.
Speaker: Yeah, that's quite good, yeah. I always struggle to think of the episode titles, so it's a hot one early on. little Easter egg I discovered on... Emmerdale's Instagram is that when Sadie descended in the helicopter, apparently when she opened the door, there's a QR code on the door and that linked to the voting for the NTAs, the National Television Awards. So love that for them. That's so good. And it does feel like they're throwing everything at the NTAs right now. It's like, look, look what we can Yeah, they are really going Please help us out.
Speaker: Yeah, gosh. I just feel like it's been such a whirlwind of like every single episode has been wild like completely unexpected new things new characters new plot points and then in today's new revelations to Sarah not to us because Charity finally told Sarah that Layla's not actually her child and then the credits rolled Yeah, so yeah I think she did it to say, she'd be like, if she hates me, she won't go and defend me at the police. That was my sort of... oh Yeah, yeah, maybe. I found it really interesting when Sarah told Mac about the fact that it was actually her who killed Caitlin Todd.
Speaker: Mac was like... I think Sarah was like are you angry with me and Mac was like no because you have to always come first and i was like does she like why why does she have to come first in this one because you are just perverting the course of justice for no real reason yeah maybe he was just so relieved that his wife wasn't a deliberate murderer the yeah we did say that that would put a lot pressure on their marriage didn't we it would creak at the seams on that one but um yeah it was it was odd and i'm so intrigued to see what happens on monday it's been a long time since i've been like desperate for the next episode but i feel like that for like the past two or three weeks i've just been like come on i need to see tomorrow's yeah now that i have watched all of the drama i'm also very very invested because i messaged you didn't i like you were not going to struggle to get through these you're like there's a lot to you were like drop everything you're doing and watch it and i was like
Speaker: oh I'm sort of by pool in Italy yeah because I was watching on my phone in Lincolnshire Airbnb so different worlds the way ITB and 10 yeah and obviously she's going to tell Jacob so this is another time so often I really wish we still had Leila because she would be so good at the revelation of this can you imagine like a Leila charity cat fight over this cat fight is a very misogynistic term I don't like that just a fight and that have been great Yeah, no, that would have been so good. She's been lying still for a long time. come on, it's time to come back. She's been lying still for so long, like so long. um Yeah, I think it's just all going to kick off and I can't wait.
Speaker: It's going to be so good. Yeah. I mean, it's going to be quite traumatic, but... Yes. Oh my gosh. What will happen with... Oh, it's just so much going on. i mean, charity is the centre of quite a few plots at the moment. I mean, it part of me again is like, are we ever going to see the rape story or the workplace bullying story come to any sort of conclusion or are they just like left in the trail behind now?
Speaker: Yeah, I think that those stories have become the manslaughter story, unfortunately. Yeah, which is tricky. both of those issues do deserve a lot more airtime than they're currently getting. Yeah. It's a shame how they always do this. They start out with something that's like raising awareness and then it just spirals. I'm sure that this sort like don't FaceTime and drive storyline. I mean, it's already kind of spiral because like one FaceTime call isn't necessarily going to lead to a marquee explosion and two people dying, but it could. But it always could. It always could.
Speaker: um And there's another huge revelation in the past few episodes about Kim. you're looking blank, her surprise daughter. Oh, yes. I was like, what? What's she done? Yes. I was very, very confused because I didn't realise I was baking a cake at the time, but I didn't realise we were in a flashback.
Speaker: Well, they think they wanted us to not know that for a long time. Oh, okay, great. It was very clever. Like, we were meant to be thinking it was unnamed baby jo Yeah, and then when they were like, they referred to the baby as female and i was like what then i got yeah and they were playing very aggressive stereophonics at one point which i then realized was also to date it because that was like it came out in 1999 or something oh yeah so was quite confronting to me that that song could be played at the birth of someone who is now fully qualified police officer because it seems quite recent sorry about that Thank you. It doesn't sound sincere, but did you also see the poster that was up when the two nurses were talking? No. Between them, it said, Millennium Bug, act now. love that. remember Millennium Bug. I was like, did those posters exist? mean, I know everyone was like, het up about it, but were they like... What it look like to act now?
Speaker: A public information campaign of posters in hospitals. I definitely remember there being posters, but as sort of six year old, I don't remember being in hospital witnessing thing. Look, yes, I was a teenager. But is that true? How much older than you am I? I think I was, I was more than 93. I am seven years older than you, aren't I? Yeah.
Speaker: um Yeah, I remember at school, we all got to design um a mug for the millennium and get it done. And I drew the millennium bug. And I remember that there was like pictures of it and everyone was like, we don't really know what you need to do, but it's going to be scary. And then just like nothing happened.
Speaker: For our younger listeners, there was everyone everyone was very anxious that because computing, how do I get this right? Like the the calendars or whatever that in computers, calendars, and use for code and whatnot had only ever been in two digits so the fact that it was going to go back around to zero zero rather crazy 2000 we thought would break everything and i think it's one of those things where everyone everyone's like oh it wasn't really a big deal but i think it only wasn't a big deal because there's a huge amount of effort that very clever people put into pixie really okay fair enough um so they did act now they saw the poster and they acted so thank you yeah it's true sometimes i've noticed when my iphone goes a bit wild like when it can't work out when a photo was taken stuff it always says that it's the same date in 1970 I can't remember oh wow that's the beginning of surely a lovely children's book fantasy or something yeah exactly and I was like is that when like Apple Mac began I don't know Twitter often accidentally defaults like the 1st of January 1970 or something so it's just a big day
Speaker: just a big day for everyone for someone i wasn't there personally um well you're not yes yeah just missed that one um so yeah uh that's why the police officer's been trying to frame other things she's very angry about obviously had a miserable experience with her adoptive family sad she hasn't followed the lewis barton thing of having kim tate's surname so it's more more of your usual adoption where they give you a new surname yeah that does make more sense um yeah i'm quite intrigued to see where this one goes and it seems like she's relented on trying to frame her for this crime at this point doesn't it
Speaker: It does seem for the moment, yeah. And I assume they were always saying they want to build up the Tates, although keep axing them as well. So um so presumably they'll become very close at some point. me Of course. I don't know why Kim hasn't just given her alibi, because she was literally buying flowers Houghton. Presumably she'll be on some sort of CCTV in a florist somewhere. Yeah, or have a receipt of banking, whatever. Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah, it was also when they asked her, like, where were you? And she just refused to answer. It's like, well, doesn't look so good. Yeah, that does seem weird. Yeah, so indeed, I mean, long lost children is like a soap staple, isn't it? So they must be used to it at this point. but Yeah, there's always a child coming out of the woodwork somehow. But it would be quite good to have a police officer in the main cast again. That's quite useful for storyline reasons. I'm trying to think if we've had one since Donna. Maybe not. Yeah.
Speaker: yeah So yeah I guess she's hanging around cause i thought she was just like a sort of fly by night police officer when came in. but And I guess it is nice to have more women in the cast. Yeah, it's true. for a while they killed all the women off brackets, the limo crash, and then replaced them with lots of men. That's so true. So at least we've lost one man and one woman this time. Equal opportunity deaths.
Speaker: Yeah, gosh, it is a lot. It was nice. um Sorry, I'm backtracking a bit. that um they recognise bisexuality as a concept, although Kev was quite quick to then be like, I'm not bisexual, I'm pansexual. Pansexual, apparently, yeah. So they do acknowledge that exists, and it it really opens up the field for to Kevin to say anyone. yeah true Yeah, so true. I mean, it it will be Nicola, but it's good. Yeah, I'm down to strays now, I think.
Speaker: Yeah, same. you want to say your first straight piece of information? Before we get to straight, I thought new little feature, which we started last time, of reading an email that someone sent Oh yeah, i love that. So i going to read one from Martin. um Thanks for emailing dinglealltheway.pod at gmail.com. He listened to as well as an acute crack hour. And he sent a photo of it. um He very much enjoyed it. So he says, going read the whole thing, but I'm fairly new to Emmerdale. My friends kept raving on about it. so I checked out the limo ISEPS and they were good, but didn't quite get me hooked. The modern slavery story did grip me.
Speaker: That's astonishing, Martin. So I'm a regular viewer now. Every time I think the stories are fizzing out, they manage to come up with something new. My main concern is that there seems to be a tier system of characters. Some characters get all the stories while others do nothing. When's the last time Chaz had a story or the vicar and his mum or Mary? and He goes on to say that, you know, when characters' stories end, that they seem bit useless. and They don't to do anything. I've said to see Noah go. had potential, I think.
Speaker: Martin, you don't share all my opinions. LAUGHTER And I hear Ruby is a fan favorite, but she's done nothing since I started watching. um Yeah, I think it's really interesting. It is interesting. Ruby did loads last year because she had her historic sexual abuse story. um And she was amazing in it.
Speaker: Chaz is an interesting one because you're right. She's not done anything for a long time, really. And she used to be up there with Charity and came where she would get all the stories, basically. So don't know what's going on there. But yeah, I do find that particularly compared to Neighbours, where everyone's sort of got equal amounts storyline, that it is very hierarchical in terms of who guys who gets to have stories. And it must be quite tricky in the green room sometimes. like I mean, do we think it's just literally that some actors are on different contracts and it's like, you get this many hours?
Speaker: Definitely some, because I remember reading that noah was part-time and some of them were full-time and stuff. Sure. And there's a handful who've been there a very long time, like Eric, who are on much more ironclad contracts where they're guaranteed things. I think maybe other people are more like zero-hour contracts. I didn't know if I could be wrong. Oh, wow. Yeah, I remember reading, I think it's maybe Bob, Eric, and someone else who get guaranteed numbers. It can't be Bob, he's never there. Anyway, yeah, I think they're less generous in their contracts than they used to be.
Speaker: um Yeah, what do you what do you think to Martin's points? Yeah, I mean, i am surprised in a way of how he feels about Ruby.
Speaker: But then it does make sense because I think we still just like living off her historic sexual abuse storyline being so powerful that actually maybe haven't noticed that she hasn't been around that much. I do think though that when she is around, she is one of the really, like, really good actors in it.
Speaker: yeah but yeah i think i would like them to give out storylines more equally like obviously i want manpreet and victoria have all the stories and cammy but um but i've said it before like things with charity it's like you could have given her the rape storyline and then given someone else's accident like manpreet could have had the like accidental man's daughter storyline because she was friends with um with Dr Todd or vice versa or whatever but yeah and you know Kane didn't need to have the cancer storyline and you know all the other stories he's had recently like yeah Jimmy have put the cancer storyline or something I probably do agree like it does feel quite strange the different weightings that are put on different yeah different actors and I always really like it when we see characters like Lydia who we don't see loads of and I think but maybe we wouldn't appreciate it as much if we saw them all the time
Speaker: yeah true um yeah i mean there's so much going on at the moment there does seem to be space for everyone to have at least something to do because it's so so different from the months and months and months where we only seem to have the modern slavery storyline it was like special episode after special episode it's they're overcompensating yeah um Well, great. Yeah, if you'd like to email us with your thoughts or questions, whatever, dinklealltheway.pod and we'll read a different one every episode, unless we don't get any and then we won't. And then we definitely won't.
Speaker: I've got so many stories actually. So um one is that she connects to Ruby. I didn't like how ruthless she was. She's become like, she was always a bit more of like hard, you know, hard-nosed, but with a moral compass, whereas she seems to have lost that. Manpreet at one point was like, I thought you were better than this Ruby. And it reminded me that they're supposed to be really good friends that we don't really see much about.
Speaker: um And also like, it's over a haulage company. Why you why are you having these like intense, like you're in the mafia or something? Yeah. It was quite weird, and I agree. I think she normally like offsets a little bit of Caleb's ruthlessness, but now she's actually like saying to him, like no, we we have to do this, and like we're going to be armed and ready when they come for us, kind of thing. And you're just like, oh, ruby like weren't you the one that just sort of saved Anya, or like tried to save Anya from stuff, and you're supposed to have a heart now.
Speaker: Very strange. Very strange. What's your first stray? My first stray was... um I think last podcast we talked about the times when one actor has gone a little bit off script and the person who responds to them can't really adapt in the same way as you'd hope and dream. And we had Kev saying, you okay? And Vinny replying, no, of course I'm not all right.
Speaker: it's the same culprit it was him last time like come oh viny but it does see it kind of just suits vinnie as a character doesn't it maybe it's a character choice he only half listens what people are saying to him yeah he's just like sort of in a dream world and then just like says what he thinks he needs to say bless him um mind i've got another one kev actually i just need to not see that beige polo shirt it's such a horrible color like please get rid and he does wear an awful lot bless him it's not helping the queer community's reputation for for style come on f
Speaker: that's all i'd say on that okay great um i think it's i'm wondering whether we think this is the beginning of a villain arc for joe which obviously he has been on for quite a long time but i can't tell And I probably should have said this earlier rather than making it into a stray, but I forgot to. um I can't tell whether Joe is now going to have a huge redemption thing where he's like, wow, sorry for being awful to the children. This isn't what Dawn would have wanted.
Speaker: and I will be part of this child's life or whether this is going to be his thing where he's like, I loved once. I can never love again. i can't let people in because I'm just going to get hurt. And I'm quite intrigued to see which way it goes. that'syri because like I could definitely see it being either of those things. Yeah. yeah um Yeah. Well, it sort of links to one of my stories. I've written down, hear me out.
Speaker: Should Joe and Billy be a couple?
Speaker: Um. Hear me out. I'm ready to hear you out. Why don't you tell me more? When they were arguing, was like, lot of chemistry here. You think everybody has chemistry. I do think that. But wouldn't that be a nice way they could just raise all those children together?
Speaker: It would be a modern blended family. And in a way I can see it happening, but also no. Like neither of them have given any hints of being attracted to men as of yet, but you know, it's a soap.
Speaker: Stranger things have happened strange things have have happened. I think it'd be a lovely way to give longevity to both their characters. Yeah, yeah extend the life in a way. Okay, yeah. i'm Are you gonna put it in your predictions category? I don't think it is going to happen. I just think it should happen.
Speaker: Yeah. Just really gunning for it. Yeah, I'm really obsessed with it. You won't shut up about it It might become something I do often now and then. um Maybe I just think anyone who's arguing has sexual tension. Apparently, that's a thing.
Speaker: Yeah. maybe this is why you're so conflict-averse. It is. I need to staple your... um Something ah quite silly, but that has been playing on my mind ever since I noticed it, is that there's an outdoor thermometer next Nicola's front door. Okay. And you know how obviously thermometers are kind of like white glass, and then they've got the mercury going up the middle of it? Sure. Sure.
Speaker: The white glass goes from about minus 30, which like hopefully it will never be that cold. up to like 18 degrees and then there's no glass and then it starts again 32 and goes up and you think like it's very confusing it's very confusing and in england like i mean obviously a a lot of the year it is below 18 but certainly over the last few months it has entirely been between 18 and 32 and like what is that thermometer really up to like what's it doing what's it registering i'm really baffled to know like who designed it or like
Speaker: Was that bit of glass just like broken in a shard between 18 and 32? And they never thought doing anything about it. They were like, well, it's fine. Because actually, to be fair, that is quite true to life. That's the kind of thing that would happen at my house and my parents house and we would just never think.
Speaker: to really do anything about it but it has been like haunting me ever since i noticed it is it a reference to the great reform activating 32 potentially of course you're so right that was always so close to jimmy's heart that's popular culture i haven't brought back my popular culture references for a while jimmy was obsessed with it and the um corn law league sorry anti-corn law league that was something he was very he couldn't stop talking about it yeah you're right was sick about hearing about the anti-corn law league I can't believe I forgot I love that you brought that up I didn't I've not noticed that specificity there must have really lingered on it or did you pause the screen to play it was like the whole scene when kim went to Nicholas front door it was all I think about
Speaker: That's nice. I'm surprised Kim knows where Nicola lives, to be honest, but she watched it open out. She didn't knock a few doors first. She obviously just opened up the yellow pages and found some things out. um We saw the Specsavers car drive through the village, which we saw parked outside the village when we were there. totally forgot about that, but we did. Yeah, and it's like, why is that here? And it's like, well, they've obviously got some sort of in-service funk on. Well, yeah, because you watch on YouTube, don't you? But when you watch on ITV, they do have a Specsavers ad before every half episode.
Speaker: Yes, I remember, I think it's probably the same ones fun and before so of they started putting on YouTube, where it's that woman who's like, thinks her husband's cheating and stuff. Her husband's having an affair, yeah. I think they're great. I bet done well. I think they are great, but when you watch them twice a day, it's a lot. You must have watched a lot in the past catch-up week. Yeah. Although I was, because I was abroad, i was watching on YouTube and I do ah prefer, well, maybe it's just, I don't prefer the adverts, but I'm sick of the ITV ones. However, they come in at such random times. I think you've got an ad blocker, haven't you? I've got ad blocks. I didn't get any ads. Yeah. Yeah. But the YouTube ones, they don't come in like halfway through the episode. They just come in at really random times and that always throws me off.
Speaker: Sickening. Mm-hmm. um right next have you got any more yeah I felt like through the last few episodes there's been a strange like they've done a weird edit on the shots and it's like kind of whited out like I was rubbing my phone screen like oh I've got like grease on my screen because like the colours feel really washed out I did read in an interview with the guy who plays Joe that they had used the same camera angles they used for Corridor or same same lenses rather so maybe it's that Oh yeah, although Corydale was just impenetrably black. That's true. And this is impenetrably white. Because then I was watching it on my laptop and I was like, oh no, the same same thing's happening here. And I don't think that every screen I own is like really, really oily. i think it must be something they're adding in. And I was like, it must represent something. But to me, it just seems like it's not strong enough to like really be there. It's just like a little bit annoying.
Speaker: Let's have a rethink on that. yeah Yeah. Back to the drawing board on the white account. yeah not yeah um Bagels. The morning of the wedding, there so many bagels at Home Farm. Hey, I didn't notice the bagels. Yeah, I think it was meant to be like a special it's your wedding breakfast thing. There's still, I mean, there's a lot of people who live there, but there were dozens of the things. They were just
Speaker: I ended up in a really long conversation recently about how bagels are made. And like it was after church and I was with like maybe three people and someone's talking about how when you make bagels, you boil them.
Speaker: And then someone was like, oh, like before we put them in the oven, and it was like, no, they don't go in the oven at all. They just cooked by boiling. And as someone said, oh they just cooked by boiling. Another two people joined the conversation. They were what's cooked by boiling? they were like, bagels. they're like I can't believe that they, what, before you put them in the oven? They're like, no you don't put them in the oven. and You just cook them by but And this happened about four times. And by the end, I was like, I'm actually just going to leave because this is both boring and like infuriating. I can't, I can't hear this again. So I just walked away. And I hate to prolong it, but I have made bagels. was pretty sure I did put them in the oven after boiling them. say Well, maybe Johnny was wrong and I need to get back him on that.
Speaker: I'll double check what I did. It's been a while, but you pop a little honey in the water as well. i don't know if that came up. It didn't come up and I don't want to hear it. No, I definitely did put the oven after that. um Sorry. i know that's not.
Speaker: clearly the direction you were hoping that would go I wanted it all end actually want it all to be over I don't want to talk to you anymore sorry everyone this is the end of the podcast forever because we've reached an impasse I can't not talk about bagels maybe it's meant to be on theme like things in rings for the wedding so true yeah I like that you could have like onion rings other things hula hoops of course party rings calamari I love calamari but you're a vegetarian I have only broken my vegetarianism by mistake few times and one time was when I ate several calamari because I thought they were onion rings oh I'm sorry they're quite different texturally how did that happen Yeah, I mean, they are. I guess I'd never heard of calamari. So it's just the only frame of reference I have for this is onion rings. So, yeah, they don't taste like I expect but they're nice. So I'm just going to keep eating them. I'm really sorry about that. Thank you. Appreciate Things should not pretend to be onion rings. Squid don't have nervous system, if that helps.
Speaker: um have A little, actually, yeah. So they're basically not sentient. My friend Jo recently decided to stop being vegetarian, but to only eat animals if she felt if push came to shove, she could kill them. yeah And I thought, I actually have, I respect that. So she's like, she's like, I kill a fish, I could kill a chicken, I couldn't kill a cow. it's like Yeah, I get that. And actually, I want to fact check myself because I think it might be jellyfish that don't have a nervous system and squid might.
Speaker: Okay, i've never knowingly eaten jellyfish. um but I don't think anyone has. I thought squid were famously intelligent. Do you need the nervous system to be intelligent? ada thought yes I think it's jellyfish that don't have a nervous system and squid are actually highly intelligent and I'm sorry that you ate them.
Speaker: I'm sorry, i felt so bad. um sorry squid and um i enjoyed a line that nicholas had back at towards the beginning of this three-week series uh where gabby and billy had just broken up and she said she finally finds a straight one and this happens here yeah're right so savage but we do love it yeah and so true um yeah i've run out straight things to say i've got only got one more which was we saw rodney which is always yeah experience um and apparently his grandsons are desperate to hear sexually explicit anecdotes from him yeah i didn't love that i found that quite uncomfortable then being like wow like you don't want know about that why are you into this like you should not be into this it's a problem i was like oh he's getting on a bit and bless him i found it very emotional though when he said to nicola like we're just gonna take this like hour by hour, day by day. And I was like, that's what she needs. I like that. Are we saying that he's her dad?
Speaker: Oh, he's definitely her dad, yeah. Her mum was... I think I'm I'm saying I'm now no no he's also Bernice's dad her mum is someone else completely um I forget who um yeah I think whilst as I say the kids aren't necessarily the best actors in the show and Rodney is Rodney it's still been good to have them all there rather than just being like I told the kids we don't see them on screen or something so that have been really bad yeah for sure Who knows, you might even see Vanessa's son at some point.
Speaker: I did find it unusual how long it tell it took them to tell Clemmie and Lucas that Dawn had died. That's true, it's like I just want them to have a nice afternoon and everything, okay. think it was like overnight. Yes, it was a while. like Billy just happened to walk in and Kim was like, oh good, you're here, you can do it i thought it would be better if you did it. And he was a bit like, I've just arrived. So they said they'd do it together and then Billy appeared to take no part yes she and like it does make sense for billy to be the one because he is yeah dad slash surrogate dad um yeah well they didn't seem too bothered so that's nice
Speaker: i guess they've been through a lot they've lost a lot of they were bothered haves yeah thing oh dear so yeah once again no farming content at all No farming content, not a moment. But we like it this way for now. yeah As in I wouldn't like it long term, but there's been really good content, so I'm not that bothered. i think we've gone over and we've got loads of good time, should we just save our random name generator for next time?
Speaker: Oh yeah, gosh, I forgot about the random generator. Yeah, let's leave it until next time. we've got and We've had a lot on our plates. We've had so much our plates. And we've lost two really good actors, really good characters. sad to see them go. Yeah, I am genuinely gutted about Dawn and I'm quite gutted about Jimmy.
Speaker: I think I'm the same but but but the other way around. yeah yeah yeah At least Dawn got the chance to be beautiful for her final months on screen because yeah they made her look like Haga for so long. and they were like Maybe she was like, you've asked me so I'm going to put on makeup. for i know I'm going out in style. thank you I'm brushing my hair. okay yeah so and She looked great in the in the wedding and everything. so Or non-wedding. We love it.
Speaker: yeah yeah so godspeed to them all can't wait to see the reaction next week and we'll be back soon yeah yeah we will great well yeah don't forget to email us as simon said dinglealltheway.pod at gmail.com we love hearing from you thanks for listening along with us we also love spotify comments but we never really get them anymore so if you're gonna say it's loads what's happening comment yeah come on guys bye
