Why is everybody falling off ladders? (Emmerdale 19th-30th October 2026)

Dingle All The Way: an Emmerdale podcast

Transcript

Speaker: Hello, welcome to Dingle All The Way. I'm Simon. And I'm Lizzie. And we're, as ever, covering the past couple weeks of the ins and outs of Emmerdale. Where to start?

Speaker: I will start with the one thing that I wrote down in my notes. Just the one, was Well, as said to you recently, I've been making a lot of pottery because this is my busiest time of year for my business. So I've been watching Emmerdale in the pottery studio and I'm covered in clay all the time. I can't also write notes. You did say to me not done many notes. I didn't think you'd said you'd done one singular note. I think what said to you was I've not done any notes. And unfortunately, you thought I said I've not done many. I did one line and you should be grateful for the one line I did right.

Speaker: Which was, is this finally the end of Chaz and Liam? But then sadly, it was not. Yeah, they really like it's like Graham disappearing and then not. They keep like dangling things that were desperate to happen and then and they don't. yeah When they were happening finally recognising the fact that they have absolutely nothing in common and don't seem to enjoy spending any time together, I thought, thank goodness. And I actually thought,

Speaker: Maybe Liam and Manbreed would be quite a good match. I don't know And then before you know it, she's pulled off what was actually quite an incredible murder mystery. And i really enjoyed that episode. But they've set a date for the wedding, for goodness sake. I mean, why are they lying to themselves and to us?

Speaker: And also, why do they think they can plan and execute a wedding in January? It's October right now. To be fair, she did plan and execute a village-wide murder mystery in less than 24 hours. so Yeah, true. And maybe, I mean, Belle was obviously down a business partner since Dawn died. Rip. Rip to Dawn, of course. And was wondering, re the finances of all that.

Speaker: Like, does her part in in the wedding business go to Jo in her will? is it Does it belong to her children? Yeah, like her shares of the company. Her stake, yeah.

Speaker: gosh i have absolutely no i idea i mean clemmy would probably do a better job of running that business than anybody else anyway i so good at her k clemmi's fan i mean she's technically a child i suppose but um you look a bit of charred labor here and there never hurt anyone doesn't need to matter um it doesn't need to matter but yeah the this episode with the murder mystery where i mean first of all i thought mary was dead Yeah, i don't I think by then I'd worked out that it was a ruse on Chaz's part because um I think just of how bizarrely over the top all the camera work was. It's like, this can't be sincere. Yeah, that is true. But then did you think it was real when um the guy came in and put Liam in zip ties and stuff? I did think that was real until I think between the episodes...

Speaker: overnight, I was like, wait a minute. But whilst it was happening in the first episode, I definitely thought it was real. Really? You cottoned on I didn't. i didn't realise that it was all a ruse until later. yeah I don't know what it was. i think it was just like...

Speaker: think I was just tired. It's like, there'd be a lovely mercy if this story lines over in a day um and i maybe I just hoped for something good and that happened. When you dream of something good to come of bad. Because I thought nobody could want us to revisit Dylan's brushes with with crime. No. No one's like, i wish that story had gone on longer, surely. Surely not, yeah. And least of all the writers.

Speaker: Yeah, absolutely. um So I did enjoy it. It was a whole lot of nonsense. I had sort of hoped as you were saying that Liam and Chaz were making a mature decision you don't need another party involved just they could be like we don't like each other being around each other is horrible for us and everybody else and everybody else maybe we should call it a day but instead Chaz is like oh you think I don't like murder mysteries that I actually don't like well I'm gonna lie about enjoying them in a way that can't possibly endanger our future Yeah, it was kind of a tough watch. And then there was that curious scene with the guy who pretended to be like the drugs gangster and was actually just a pretty good actor.

Speaker: Then talking to Liam and being like, oh, i think we're from like a similar part of the world. And like kind of trying to suss him out. And then Liam was just like, it wasn't me. Like, was that about what happened with his daughter? Well, I think there is a secret that is going to become but unearthed.

Speaker: And we don't know what it is. And it's a storyline that's about Liam having a secret. So maybe like medical malpractice is my guess, maybe. Maybe this would be the end of the impending marriage. That'd be nice. so Yeah.

Speaker: um I mean, know if see that down to... He's quite good actor, that guy. wouldn't mind seeing him again. he was good. Yeah. Maybe we'll get him on the cast. I did find the background music when they discovered Mary being stabbed was quite upsetting, but I can't remember exactly why. it was just a lot. I have no memory of it at all.

Speaker: did make me also wonder, like... I wonder there are a lot of people how they could drop everything to yeah to help coordinate this, but that's their place of work.

Speaker: They're just like telling people on the phone, oh, sorry, we can't see Rover today because we're faking a murder. And that Mary was there for, like I think, an entire day and a night. Which, you know, may be good for her back. I don't know. don't know. is that what you'd recommend to a pensioner?

Speaker: maybe not I mean, I can't see Rona or Vanessa being up. Well, maybe Vanessa, because she seems to be near constantly drunk at the moment. But um like Rona would be like, we are in huge amounts of debt. We need to get all the money if we can. We can't be spending our day pretending to murder someone.

Speaker: um I particularly enjoyed Mandy getting really, really into it. even though like she's meant to be completely distraught that Vinny's in prison and getting beaten up. And she's just like, this is exactly what I needed. I don't know if it But I did enjoy her and Maddie just sort of rummaging through Kim's house in front of her. She was like, are you doing? Yeah, that was that was excellent. Kim's really good at comedy and it's shame she get to do that much of it. Yeah, I really like her.

Speaker: We that amazing scene of Kim and Cammie last year and I thought that was going to be a whole wonderful new thing but it was never revisited. Yeah, when Cammie came to the door and she was just like, who on earth are you?

Speaker: And he's a distractor for some reason, I can't remember why. Yeah, I can't why, I love it, it was funny. Yeah, more more Kim comedy please. Kimity. Kimidi, sure. I also thought in the whole Liam and Chaz of it all when Chaz was like, I can't believe you're embarrassed with me. it's like Embarrassment really feels like it would go the other way on that street, doesn't it? Yeah, like surely you can believe he's embarrassed of you because you must be embarrassed of him every time he opens his mouth. can you imagine if they're just going just to a restaurant together? It must just be excruciating for her. And like, but just what on earth do they talk about?

Speaker: Yeah, because he'll be like his murder mysteries or, i don't know, medical stuff or the operas you've seen. Like the allotment. Yeah. Ugh. And she'll be like, all the different family members, she's had to be murdered. Yeah. and Maybe that's why she doesn't want to go to murder mystery parties. True, it's just quite triggering because of everything else that's had ever happened to her. Yeah, and to be fair, his daughter was murdered, but it doesn't seem to have put him off. Yeah, that's true. Different.

Speaker: Yeah. um That was my thought a bit when she was orchestrating this murder. It's like, this is a man for whom murder is not like the funnest of memories, but... um Yeah, but he has kind of made it his one personality trait. Yeah. so Godspeed, I suppose.

Speaker: But yeah, so when was the date? Was it February, January? you see i think it was the 29th of January. 29th of January. don't know that for certain. m Yeah, I still don't think that wedding is happening.

Speaker: But what you Yeah, I don't think it's happening. I hadn't heard this spoiler about Liam's big secret, but i wonder whether, like, maybe that will finally be the thing that kills them.

Speaker: Not actually dead, but, like, kills the relationship. Yeah, maybe he'll die. Imagine that. be nice. I would like him to leave at this point. So if this secret can lead to that.

Speaker: that'd be great I mean yeah how many people could be struck off medically because I feel like Wendy was at one point maybe el Ella obviously had issues yeah but I guess if the writers do keep on making them do things that are illegal as doctors obviously they are all going to get struck off one by one you'd like like to think wouldn't you but yeah Nanpreet definitely deserves better and I was horrified at the idea that they might be together Yeah, I was horrified at it, but also i was like, well, they're a more compatible couple than Chaz and Liam together. Well, that's true.

Speaker: I quite enjoyed how everyone was just falling off ladders relentlessly. it really did seem to be the only possible way disembark from a ladder it was by plummeting to the ground. Yeah, and the only way the writers could think of giving anybody an injury was like, you have to fall from a height. Yeah. Because when Bob did it at first, I thought maybe the actor had actually had an injury and that was the only way they could think to like write it in. But no, it was something of a leitmotif of the following. week Yeah, I didn't notice him having like an arm in a sling or anything when he was being ghostly. So I think it probably was just like actually fictional.

Speaker: Yeah. um And lucky, lucky Samson, should he ever come back to the village that Sam set up this business of just like washing people's windows. There's what, like 100 houses in the village that need washing windows maybe maximum once a month? Yeah, I don't know i guess you how well it's going Plus, apparently he's definitely going fall off those ladders.

Speaker: Yeah, and I found that whole storyline with the, like, let's try and get Samson a job thing completely weird. Like, Lydia just having a go at Kim and being like, i can't believe you're not giving my son a job just seemed so out of character for Lydia. and then when Lydia apologised and was like, sorry, that was unhinged. I was like, yeah, it was. And Kim was like, no, i was out of order. Of course I'll give Samson a job. was like, no, that's hard job normal. That's really not a normal way for friends to interact.

Speaker: They are constantly throwing that friendship up in each other's face to like, it's over. Like, can we have a little bit of stability, please? Yeah, I just feel like it's like the one friendship in the village that's like fairly, well, not not even that well documented. We see like a fair amount of it. Yeah, more today than most. But they just, yeah, you're right. They just keep introducing more conflict into it to the point that you're like, we never see you just have a nice time together. Are you even friends?

Speaker: Yeah, we did see a scene which amused me where Lydia was in Kim's kitchen taking folded clothes out of washing basket and then refolding them on a chair. Okay. And she's like, what's the end goal here? Because they're going to have to go back into the basket where they were already neatly folded. They're getting what's going on.

Speaker: Yeah, that is quite odd, but sure. Sure. Like, sure, if you've got a jumbled up bag of laundry, you might fold them there. Although would recommend doing it by the clothes, place you're going to put the clothes, ED the wardrobe. but but But yeah, it's like, Lydia, if this is what you're being paid to do, maybe Samson should take over the laundry. He's done quite a lot of it in prison. so true. I mean, I feel like at this stage, Kim is just employing her to like, do anything and everything. Like, doesn't really care. She just wants to give her friend a salary and like,

Speaker: this kind of works yeah i mean she might well be a childminder the baby we've now learned it's called william after late little whale i suppose i suppose yeah that makes sense yeah i couldn't remember whether anybody had named that baby yet and i'd forgotten it or was that scene where joe was finally talking to him was that like him being like this is your name I think was it. Did I ever tell you, and I certainly haven't told our podcast listeners, plural, about my friend Emily, who is from Northern Ireland, sort of relevant. She has an older brother called Patrick.

Speaker: They had her, her parents had her, then they had another baby and they couldn't decide what to name him. And it got to the point where it's like the state would name him if they didn't. Oh, wow. Yeah.

Speaker: And they were like, well, We know we like the name Patrick. So both her brothers are called Patrick. What? Just because they could like, we can't make of any other names we like. So let's just do it again. That's crazy. Isn't that They could have just chosen like any other name. If they were choosing a name on a whim, why did they do that? Yeah. i Do they have two, they have like different name names? Well, weirdly, one of them is known as James, which is a middle name. It's like, why you just call him James?

Speaker: yeah that was an option that is so crazy to me funny but yes it does seem it's yet another baby named after a dead relative which is the only way that people name babies it seems in emmerdale now yeah dead relatives or like you know bell was named because it was christmas or something yeah tinkerbell yeah yeah samson is unfortunately called that because he's sam's son which, look, you say unfortunately.

Speaker: i love it. i'm so I'm sorry to say. I am sorry to hear. no You know else loves it? Our Icelandic listeners. so I did see some stuff online of people being like, the baby should have been called Dawson because it's like Dawn's son. And I was like, oh, come on, guys. Should it there is a good question. um ah this is maybe our best prophetic corner yet. Or psychic corner. I can't remember how spiritual we made it. But... Last week, the last episode, when we said we're never going to see that baby unless it's kidnapped.

Speaker: Baby's first kidnapping. Baby's first kidnapping. You know those little um cards that people hold up next to their children where it's like three weeks old or like, I ate my first banana today. Yeah. I hate all of them. My first kidnapping. My first kidnapping. First, presumably, of many.

Speaker: oh yeah yeah. And, yeah, Graham pops back, tells her the babies can connect with, again, as always, absolutely no emotion i'm like graham please show us show a singular emotion sometime i was thinking it must be quite hard to act in a scene with graham it must be so hard because he kills everything i can't stand it i just want him gone but yeah both when he announced the baby's kidnapped when he learned later we'll get onto this obviously that kim is thea's mom

Speaker: nothing absolutely nothing it's like have we explored the theory that he is deaf and blind that's something i think it's more likely that he's a psychopath like he doesn't feel anything about anything he doesn't that's normal And it's not acting either. And his voice gets lower and lower all the time. It's like that in itself is not acting. I think it is acting. It's just acting in a way that I would never expect to see and don't appreciate seeing. As in like, it would be quite difficult to not react emotionally to things you've been told. Like it would be quite hard to be like, I have to be deadpan to everything. true, because it doesn't feel wooden, it just feels emotional. So he's obviously making a choice, and it is a bad choice. Yeah, like, I'm convinced by Graham as a character. I just think he's a character that I like.

Speaker: Yeah, and no one I'd want to be around. Certainly not one I'd interest a baby to. No. I did enjoy Lydia wondering whether he was wearing changing nappies while he wearing a suit. Yes, I thought that I was like, thank you, Lydia, for saying what we all think. Like, is he doing it in a suit? Like, I need to know. I like i love that moment of realism from Lydia. Like, brilliant. Like, he doing it in suit?

Speaker: Yeah, Lydia, as always, is the voice of the viewer being like, what on earth is going on? So true. I love it um so the baby's kidnapping turns out to be by joe who via gabby gabby so i assume gabby was looking after him was that what she was saying what he was saying yeah i think so but like where because nobody seems to want to give gabby a house let alone gabby and a baby it's true and that baby we like most babies would be crying quite a lot of the time you know where's she hiding it yeah i literally have no idea in like one of the other cottages Maybe she was upstairs in one of Kim's many bedrooms. They just didn't check them all.

Speaker: So, Joe must have found out at some stage that they were hiding the baby, but when? When? yeah and when did he go to boots photos to like print off that bizarre like escape room of tip of children's memorabilia yeah that was a lot wasn't it it was very strange he's really put a lot of effort into it i did wonder because we had a lot of the like that that episode and the murder mystery and kim and the like house being scared all together i wondered if it was meant to be like a halloween episode and i was gonna say that because do you remember um i think it was like on the

Speaker: 26th it said it was the 29th or something or maybe it was the 16th forward the night I remember we're out of sequence and they keep being they keep being annoying things like football and so I was thinking surely this was supposed to be Halloween because it is really creepy it does feel very it yeah and it would have been great for a Halloween episode but I guess it was Halloween week and we'll have to live with that Unfortunately, I hate Halloween. I mean, I do hate Halloween, obviously.

Speaker: yeah As someone who is scared easy and arachnophobic, it's a bad time. It is not great. And I am instead doing a harvest party, which feels more positive. I am going to a Halloween party somewhat against my will. but i would um Just because I was like, if some nice neighbors invited me. And it's like, well, I'd like to see more of you. That's fair.

Speaker: Are you going to dress up? Well, they did say we could dress up, but don't know if I'm going to. To be fair, I actually think Halloween in the last five years, maybe, in this country has got so much more palatable. I think Halloween here is a lot more like how Halloween in America seems to be, where it's not that dark and demonic, and it's more like just dress up as something fun and eat sweets, which I can get behind, like carve a pumpkin, cutesy vibes. I love carving a hump. Yeah, whereas I feel like here, historically, it just has been quite, like, nasty, let's think about death all the time. Yeah, hope that is changing. I remember maybe, like, ten years ago, I went to theme park in Yorkshire, called? Lightwater, something like that. And happened to be near Halloween, and there were just, like, people wandering around, like, a guy with a chainsaw covered in fake blood and the things. And I was like, I'm, whatever I was then, 30-something, And I'm quite scared. Like, if I come as a child, I would never have recovered from this. And it was very much a child's theme park, as we later learned. There was maybe one rollercoaster in the adults there. Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah. But yeah, I don't like how this, like, murder has become a... I mean, I love a murder mystery party, but don't want to see fake blood or indeed real blood. Yeah, I don't want that for my non-existent children. Yes, those poor non-existent children. Yeah, they're bigger enough as it is, like not even existing. That's a big blow for them. Such a big blow. Like, I don't know how they're dealing with it.

Speaker: for yeah so yes joe confronts graham in the stables sure um hopefully recaps the entire plot to date yeah it's like you wanted this child but the you took him and then and then i was there and it's like okay great thank you it was a very helpful refresher for us all and what was less helpful as a refresher is the scene after scene of exactly the same conversation between ja joe and graham yeah graham's like you'll regret it you will regret this in the future and joe being like i won't i he took everything from me punch me punch me please daddy um

Speaker: it's all a lot isn't it yeah it's just been like so boring for so boring it's like it's as ever let someone adopt this baby take this baby away from all of this they'll have much happier life joe should not raise that child i know we think that he should but he just absolutely shouldn't especially like you know when he ross i mean it's thought it was quite sweet that ross gave him a little pep talk and was like i've been in the same situation But Ross being like, oh, you seemed like really good with Dawn's kids. like When? When? He seemed to like have a few moments of watching films with them and stuff. But mainly he was just like telling them that they weren't really wanted. Like, you know, your adopted family aren't your real family. Didn't Clemmie like turn herself in at some stage? Was she from social services? Yeah. Yeah. Like, what?

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah, he should not be around and possibly any children, but certainly not any he's got a caregiving responsibility for. Yeah, like I'm all for a redemption arc, but I think there has to be a wisdom call at some point of like, maybe you could be allowed to visit your child every now and again, but that you shouldn't be their primary guardian.

Speaker: Not least because that baby has got a whole set of organs that are genetically related to Joe. He's going to treat it as a bag of spare parts. So true. Gosh, that's why he's finally turned around on the whole thing. Because he did very suddenly be like, oh, actually, I'm very into this now. Yeah.

Speaker: and i think like to his credit ned porteous has been acting like incredibly well and these scenes have been like very convincing i just feel sorry for him that the writers keep essentially giving him the same thing over and over again and he has to just bring fresh energy to it and he's always paired with monotone robot so yeah yeah um Yeah, i i also quite enjoyed the um Ross and Joe scene, even though it didn't make any sense. And ah was i mean I remember all the Donna stuff, and that was beautiful.

Speaker: With Rebecca, as far as I knew, they were not together for quite a long time before she died. Maybe I've misremembered that. I really know but anyway um again he's a great actor he can carry off any of the nonsense he's given so it sort of works they're making it work yeah I mean he's currently not very invested in his biological child but he's just given away to Jacob and Sarah but you know sure but Charity didn't die in childbirth and maybe he would be more interested if she had died. Who knows? I think my only real um intel on Rebecca is that the Rob Rom podcast consistently call her Ratbecker and they hate her so much. People did really hate her largely because feel like at some point Robert cheated on Erin with her. Maybe that's where Seb came. can't remember if they were actually dating at that point or if everyone just said. It's classic soap fan misogyny, I would say. Yay, we love Yeah, big fan. Not specifically from that podcast, just in the community in general. where Yeah.

Speaker: we know I love the Robert podcast, obviously. Obviously, obviously, obviously. And little note from Robert saying that having a baby suits Erin. Yeah. And then, ah didn't Seb get a shout out? Yeah, it was weird link it's like, you know, Seb's not a baby. You know, he's like a teenager now for sure. Yeah, but like they acknowledge that he exists. Maybe Seb's coming. And my highlight of the past two weeks. Victoria. Victoria. Surprise, Victoria. I need you all over that. It was so nice to see her because It was. heard her voice I was making pottery and not necessarily looking at the screen so I heard her voice and i was like have they like deep faked her while she's on maternity leave because they were like we can't both bother the actress and then I looked it and I was like oh no she's there she's there in a scene that was clearly filmed without any actors nearby but it was still lovely to have her and she was like no I'm staying in Portugal i don't want to come back to that mess and it's never been my dream to run a farm to table restaurant in a kayaking centre and I don't know why you thought it was Yeah, and I get it.

Speaker: Like, I totally get it. I would not come back from Portugal to Yorkshire at this time of year to try and run a restaurant. No, not when I'm possibly wanted for murder. Yeah, also that. Like, don't do it to yourself, babes. Yeah, although everyone seems to have sort of... The police have moved on, I guess, from that investigation. They've got a lot of other things to deal with. Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah. For example, fear being stabbed by, yeah her mind, or in her words... a poacher, does she just think the police are be like, oh well, you're never going find a poacher. That did seem to be what she thought. She was like, oh, just say it was a poacher and it's okay. That's the end. A poacher is still a human being that would fall under the criminal justice system. You'd think, wouldn't you?

Speaker: They're not like subhuman. It's not the island of of criminals. Just inaccessible to the police. um That's a reference to Mandy not to sort of talk about the troubles or anything. LAUGHTER

Speaker: ah So yes, Kim stabs Thea whilst thinking that Thea has orchestrated the whole baby kidnapping, which to be fair, at that point, I also thought she had orchestrated So did i So, you know, not saying I would have stabbed her, but it was quite convincing. Yeah.

Speaker: She seems very unbothered that she stabbed her at first. and She gets more bothered as time goes on. Yeah, she didn't really seem to care. And then she suddenly cared a lot, even though at that point she didn't know that she was her daughter. She was just like, I've stabbed someone.

Speaker: Yeah, maybe it was the shock. I don't know. Yeah, I wouldn't like to say. And then... don't remember exactly how she writes it out. Was it just like looking at her driver's license and being like... Yeah, she looked at her driver's license and she was like, oh, your name is Anthea and that's your birthday.

Speaker: I just think that's not necessarily conclusive evidence. Like, I would maybe ask a few more questions before, like, the moment that she regains consciousness, being like... you're my daughter like that'd be so intense yeah when you're like concussed maybe not concussed not everybody is disoriented at least um yeah and are we saying that she named the baby anthea i can't remember that yeah okay and the adoptive parents kept the name which is and not sure you necessarily do if the baby's like a week old but sure uh no i think you do

Speaker: Well, it depends on... She knows what you did in the 90s or whenever she was a doctor. Yeah, it doesn't... I think it can sometimes depend on, like, Where you live and stuff. But certainly with my brother's kids.

Speaker: Okay. they were adopted at birth or just after birth? They went into care from birth. And then like my brother got them when they were like one, two and three.

Speaker: Yeah, I guess that makes more sense if you're like if you've had the name for that time. then yeah Yeah, that's true. But I think like, I mean, I don't want to speak for anybody. I'm pretty sure it's kind of just not the done thing to change their name.

Speaker: I guess I'm just more thinking about cats but um um yeah they are different they are technically different um yeah and what was I going to go there oh yes and usually for Emmerdale she wasn't forced to keep uh her biological mother's surname so that's nice that she got a new surname Yeah, or wasn't given their stepdad's uncle's surname for no particular reason. What's Singy Barton? Lewis Barton. Why is he a Barton? Nobody knows. No one knows. No one knows.

Speaker: Yeah, um so that was, i mean, Kim works it out. Kim tells Graham doesn't care. um But, i mean, i guess, is this step one of them like having a beautiful reconciliation and fear moving in? I think it might be. And I wondered whether, um is there a world in which Graham is her dad?

Speaker: Oh, gosh. Like, obviously, I have no idea on the timeline of when Kim has been with any man, because ah the whole time I've known her, she's kind of been single. But like, would would that match up? Or could they have had like a fling or something? i mean, it doesn't have to make sense. So, yeah. Exactly.

Speaker: Oh gosh, I don't want that for her, but it could well be, couldn't it? Yeah, it could well be But at least, as opposed to, so with Lewis, we often say it's kind of a shame that it sounds like he had lovely adoptive parents and gets on with very well and is now completely forgotten about and forsaken. Whereas at least if Anthea ends up moving in with Kim, then it's like, cool.

Speaker: That is a nice redemptive arc for you because it sounds like your original situation was pretty nasty. That's true. Yeah. um Yeah. Poor Lewis's parents. Totally shut off instantly. It's like raised him very sacrificially for a very long time. And then it was like, bye. Bye.

Speaker: Oh dear. Well, I hope next time he's in hospital, if someone mentions giving them a ring or something. Yeah, that'd be good. He will be in hospital again soon. I'm sure. I'm sure. Yeah. it doesn't They're never out of there for long. Um,

Speaker: Yeah, well, and the other news is that Tom is a flight. I'd totally forgotten about that. Yes. um Yeah, poor Belle.

Speaker: Like, she's been through so much and she's finally coming out the other side. And then, yeah, this has obviously really thrown her. And I feel like there were quite, like, mixed reactions to her finding it difficult. of like sometimes people being like, yeah, obviously this is so hard and that's fine. And sometimes people being a bit like, well, have you pulled yourself together now? are you feeling a bit better? And you're like, you can't do... What what do you want from her? Yeah, very raffling. Poor also, I'd say the audience, if you have to sit through more of that storyline, because that was another one that outstayed its work. um Yeah, time I am hoping that this is the kind of like vindication that we all hope is,

Speaker: and i would say need is that he will come back to the village and everybody will be like go away no way see you bye and it'll just be over in like two days we hope and yet we've already had charles saying that he thinks he's turned a corner and i found quite confusing what charles like charles has been seeing him for a while as a vicar in prison fine great good to know that he does actual vicaring somewhere true um But the I was like, either you have to keep your conversations confidential or you don't. You don't have like, I've been seeing him and here's what he said. And I'm going to tell you like a few weeks later, pick a path. Confidentiality or not. Not this like worst of both worlds situation. Yeah. Which one are you going to do?

Speaker: Yeah, true. Gosh, I just really hope he doesn't come back for long because he was such a tough watch. He really was. And Belle doesn't need that. I did love the Rona Belle scene why Rona was like comforting her. That nice. Yeah.

Speaker: I was quite distracted throughout it by the enormously tall crop of kind of maize or something. was like, what is going on there in the background of the grave? Like it was so it was like six feet tall. And also I've seen so many people wandering around in like shirt sleeves. And like, let me tell you, in Yorkshire over the last week, the weather has been awful. Like today is kind of weirdly warm.

Speaker: But like there was the day when it was the enormous storm and like our wheelie bin blew down our road. I was watching Emmerdale and apparently of five miles from my house, it was blazing sunshine. And I was like, they really did film this six weeks ago. Took you out of it Yeah. um And i was not watching for this whole whole section of Rona's story, but it was sort of amusing when Belle was like, But in your case, turns out he was evil and he tried to kill Graham. And I did enjoy try to kill because obviously for a long time he thought he had killed Graham. Yeah, so true. out

Speaker: Turns out. Turns out. as comforters go, perhaps, you know, a bit of a joke comforter situation. Yeah, but I did enjoy it. She was quite comforting to Gabby as well a couple episodes later. So it's like, yes rona giving everyone benefit of your wisdom rona's doing well bless um and also oh we didn't say but cammy being like just lovely and kind to bell even though obviously kind of slightly misguided and i expect we'll have no idea what to do if and when tom does come back it was nice to see it anyway it's nice to see and we've learned from the past that we're in the whole vinnie sexuality storyline that his plans are well-meaning, but not particularly good. Yeah. Yeah. But, oh, well, no, I loved defensive Cammie when he was like, no one's going to hurt you. When she, I think she said something like, I'm not a trad wife. And I was like, wife, hello. I know. Oh yeah, of course. And there was the whole, I love you, Kate. I love you, Kate. I love you. Oh, I mean, know, how deeply I feel about couple. Yeah, it was sweet. And it felt very real as well with, um,

Speaker: Yeah, I think that it would feel like a really big deal for Belle to say that and to feel like she was in a relationship that was getting serious and like that would bring up loads of stuff to process about what happened with Tom. So it did feel like a very realistic storyline and that he was just like yeah kind and understanding about that was so nice see. Yeah, i loved his emotional vulnerability, but it's also respecting her. um Yeah, it was lovely. And they love each other. I mean, we've not seen that much of them on screen together, but I believe it somehow... yeah ah Clearly they've been like loving each other behind the scenes.

Speaker: So to speak.

Speaker: Yeah. It's nice. um I think I'm just down to lots of strays now. I've got quite a few. We haven't said anything about the whole like Sadie, Caleb. Oh gosh, you're right. This is because it's peeving me, I'd say. I am really hoping that this is kind of like ah an illustration of how Ruby and Caleb are really strong and even when somebody is really undermining them and manipulating them that things can, like, they will still be there for each other and love each other because it does feel like Sadie is obviously playing off against each other and they are believing that but that time and again they are being like okay, what we're going to do about this is have a conversation about it and, like, communicate openly and, like, talk about it rather than, like, yeah, anything else. So I'm hoping it won't work

Speaker: I hope so, because it is baffling how susceptible they are being to her manipulation so far. And it's like, you know what she did to Nicola, you know she's a liar, and yet she's like just playing them off, and they're just so...

Speaker: credulous about everything yeah it's really weird and I I'm kind of baffled about where this storyline is going because for a long time you and I have both said Ruby clearly has an alcohol problem clearly um and now Sadie has like I guess like manipulated a few situations to kind of heighten that and there's been like a number of times where she's Ruby's been like messy drunk And now that she's saying like, oh, I think I have an alcohol problem.

Speaker: Is the culmination of this plot line going to be Ruby saying like, I can't believe that Sadie manipulated me into thinking I have an alcohol problem? Because she does. That's a good point, actually. It might actually be an inadvertent kindness to help her come to town together. Is it going to be like, wow, thanks so much for helping me realise I was struggling and Sadie was like, oh, that's not what I thought.

Speaker: Yeah. it going to be... Yeah, I hope the writers don't make this into like, no, Ruby was fine all along because it's like, she isn't. She's not. She's not fine. Yeah. I also slightly wonder if Sadie's going to go to Jo in like a month's time. Be like, okay, I'm ready for... a my money now and you'll be like oh I'm so sorry i thought you realized you'd all moved on and i love the baby now and none of that's a thing so sorry my life's moved on and I don't want to do that anymore I've got other plots going on right now yeah yeah baffling um I do I find it quite trying I feel how she is sort of whispering every line but that's obviously how she speaks Yeah, I've forgotten to notice that, actually. It still hasn't really been a big part of my life. Sorry. Thrilled for you.

Speaker: um And I hope for many more years of the same. Yeah. Yeah, that's kind of all I wanted to say on the matter. i don't know if you have anything else to add about Sadie, etc. Well, I mean, no, I still really like.

Speaker: her friendship with Vanessa and Ruby and Manpreet, even though she's awful, just because I like having a little gang, I guess she doesn't do part of it, but she's brought them together. And they seem insistent on taking her to Nicola's place of work, which does seem quite insensitive. Yeah, quite, quite bad. yeah I've been enjoying them hanging out with Claudette, though, as well. Yes, Claudette is winning me over day by day. She's great fun. She's great. And...

Speaker: um and big into gardening apparently so yeah huge into yeah so at point she and kevin have a big gardening plan whilst being accused of something by aaron of stealing the money that was right oh yeah burying the money in the front garden which would be dumb it would be dumb he is quite dumb though so that's not impossible yes the big money thing that was quite big plot last time just sort of ended immediately with charity being like yeah i i took it here it is Oh yeah.

Speaker: Did talk about that last episode? I can't remember. Well, we I think by the... it had been stolen, but we didn't know who'd done it by when we recorded it last time. Yeah, that makes sense. Yeah, and I feel like the whole Sarah charity thing is still just like rumbling on, but it's become a bit more of a background now.

Speaker: Yeah, Sarah found out she'd stolen it, and then it's like, how how dare you? And they were like, okay, bye. yeah me But Ryan could tell she'd stolen it. Ryan knows what's going on.

Speaker: Good old Ryan. I feel like he often knows what's going on, but just doesn't think it's worth his while to tell people. Which I think it would be the only way really to survive in O'Dell. That's true. Just like let them get on with it. pop up one hour and then to serve a drink, and that's probably all I need to engage with. Yeah, I'll just like Photoshop some accounts for you call it a day.

Speaker: Yeah. and Good for him, actually. say Yeah. He's got a great skill set. Yes. Yeah, it keeps keeps you going. It certainly does. um Yeah, so should should we go through? i Do you have any strays? i don't have any strays, but they might come to me as you reveal me yours.

Speaker: Sure. One of them I enjoyed in today's episode was that Graham knew that Ross had entered home farm without turning his head. and I'm like, how strong is Ross's cologne? but He's just like...

Speaker: ah heat in the building He's arrived. He's here. so funny. That's one. um Jay's podcast. Everyone's horrified at the notion. Yes, I love that. what was um Who who like checked their phone when they were looking for the money and they were like, there's no sign of the money, but apparently Jay has a podcast, which is like so good. I think it was like Robert or Aaron because they then told the other one on the phone and they were like, oh, basically so disgusted by it.

Speaker: It would be really horrible to listen to. Yeah, um part of me is taking it as a like a as a commentary on our podcast, I think that's probably unfair.

Speaker: Yeah, I think not everything can be written by the writers about us. Possibly nothing. But um it's nice to think that maybe they hate us and that's why they've done this storyline.

Speaker: Jay, if you'd like to be a guest, we'd love to have you yeah in character. um Caleb says Italian rather than Italian. is they he'd order He'd booked an Italian restaurant. Surely not. He did. He said Italian. It's like an apple product.

Speaker: I think Americans say that, but he's certainly not American. no I think he's like mank. Yeah. um And he booked over 6pm and I thought Ruby and Caleb would be too classy to go for 6pm dinner. Yeah, they would be like absolute earliest, 7.30. Yeah, I see them as 8 o'clock people. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm a 6 o'clock person. but Yeah, but you're not classy. I'm not classy.

Speaker: Don't let my voice fool you. I love an early dinner. The other day did it at like 4.30. What is wrong with you? I get so hungry. Yeah. It's because you have your lunch at like half 11. never have lunch before 12. It's always bang on 12 because I like counting down the minutes until 12. Do you have breakfast? Why are you so hungry all the time? I don't know.

Speaker: just a growing boy. Why don't you just eat larger meals at normal times? It's just because I'm vegetarian. I thought every day you had like a cheese sandwich for lunch. Yeah, that's a great lunch.

Speaker: Why don't you have two? It's a good solution. I'd say its so much leftover Lebanese food because I made loads and loads of Lebanese meze for three friends, but we ate like half of it. So I've been eating it for days and I finished it off today and it was, though I say it myself, amazing. Yeah, that sounds fantastic. What is Lebanese food? um so what did i make this is really tangentially related let's just try maybe this is what they serve in the b&b there we go emma delink um i made it's not bob doesn't do this uh roasted cauliflower tahini and walnuts uh a sort of cinnamon and chickpea and bulgur wheat thing uh potato heart like fried potatoes with garlic and coriander and chilies

Speaker: ah There was vine leaves. I made baba ghanoush, which is like... I love baba ghanoush. I made everything. Like blitzed. I've seen sesame stuff for people don't know. um There was more else that I make. Oh, I made little feta pastry parcel things. Fatoosh.

Speaker: I think that's everything. Yeah. Wow. Excellent vibes. Yeah. I love that. Now we're back. I don't really know what just happened. a lot of things just happened, but we're back now. We're back. Hopefully. Although mine is showing very, very low waves on my side. Well, I guess we were sort of at the end anyway. Should we just hope for the best or not?

Speaker: Yeah, let's just do the end bit. um I had two final strays, which made a lovely couple of Kane and Rona scenes, real life couples. Yes, loved seeing them interacting. I thought of that.

Speaker: It was cute. And then my final one is that Lewis was wearing a green pullover and yellow neckerchief looked like a Cabbage Patch kit. Oh, bless him. Yeah, do you think he... No, was going to say, do you think he chooses his own outfits? Because he's always quite well dressed, but that means that I just obviously think that he must have better taste than the actual costume department, which is probably not true. LAUGHTER No, I think we've already had quite lot of fun putting together his outfits. And don't know if you've seen that trend on Instagram or TikTok, probably, don't use TikTok, of people being like, we can't all live in um Milan. Some of us have to hold it down in. yeah And then I don't make think of him like, we can't all be in Milan. Some us have to hold it down in Emmerdale.

Speaker: Yeah, so true. Love that. He is an icon and we love him. We do love him. And, of course, our personal friend after we had deal with him. Close personal friend, Bradley Richards. um Great, well, let's do a little random name, generation.

Speaker: um I've not actually prepared it as I usually do, so amongst yourselves, children. one of my colleagues shouted woohoo this week in the office when I said that I was going to go and buy some biscuits and he just literally out of nowhere was like, woohoo! And he got giggles because he was like, that was so weird, why did I why did i do that? I was like,

Speaker: an actual expression of pure joy just came out of my mouth. was like, well, that was lovely. That's nice. It's also going to be lovely to edit that scream you just did. That is true. It's your turn. God bless you. ah Would you believe it? The name we've got is Lewis Barton.

Speaker: Wow. i think I feel like we've talked about him before, but maybe that was just when he first came on the show. Yeah, and we talked about quite a lot, but not in this section, I think. Yeah, fair. I think both of us found him maybe like harder to warm to at first um from memory.

Speaker: But um I do really like him now. I am quite, as we say, confused about his um relationship with his biological parents, who he apparently loves but has completely forgotten that they exist. um i am really glad that he and Vinny are not together anymore because that was not a convincing relationship in any way.

Speaker: I love his relationship with Kev. Yes. yes Yeah, yeah, yeah. Those are my headlines. Don't worry about me. I love those headlines. I love what he brings out of Ross. I love, it like, sensitive brother Ross. It's very sweet. It's very similar to the Ross-Finn dynamic, but I think Lewis is a more interesting character than Finn. Okay.

Speaker: Um... Yeah, i I really like that he is nice to have a character who is like, morally good. There's not that many of them. he will always And you know that he's going to make the right decision, or at least he might make the wrong decision, but he'll do it from good motives. um And he can quite funny. He's got a lovely relationship with Nicola. He works really well with lots of different types of characters.

Speaker: um i Well, having said that, I think he is actually better with older characters maybe than he is with his. nearest and dearest but yeah you might be right there actually yeah he has a lot of like intergenerational friendships yeah and um yeah i think when he came in with the whole like marijuana storyline it didn't really fit the character so that was the bit like It was medical though. It was medical wasn't it?

Speaker: But yeah, he's got like some dangerous close relatives which will always throw him into to situations of mild peril. but And haven't we all? Haven't we? Every single one of us.

Speaker: ah Yeah, no big fan of big fan of him. I hope he stays around. I'd like his parents to be written in at some point. That'd be nice. That would be nice. We need his parents and we need Cami's family.

Speaker: Yeah, the Camilly. Yes, every time. And I'd like to see more of the Lewis-Camilly friendship that sort of goes in fits and starts. Yeah, that would be nice.

Speaker: Yeah, bless Lewis. We love him. we love him. And we look forward to the day that he is best man at Kevin Nicola's wedding. I'm sure happen. Sure it will happen.

Speaker: Maybe I'll save that for our predictions episode. Has there been any farming? No. I feel like I saw, did someone get stuck behind a tractor or was that last week? oh Yeah, I think, did Graham get stuck behind a tractor or somebody? we didn't see the tractor, we just heard about it.

Speaker: Okay. feel like I saw someone behind a tractor, maybe that's just my own life. i haven't We've certainly seen a lot of Specsavers fans. They're incessant.

Speaker: um Good for them. I guess Root Roberts talked farming plans to Victoria, who remains unconvinced about them. but i' True, but no really are they no actual farming. Just Matty being like, there's not enough people to work on this farm.

Speaker: don't we've even seen Matty the last couple weeks, have we? Which has not been sad. Not the end the world. Not not in the end of the world um Do you get in touch with us, guys. Dinglealltheway.pod at gmail.com. We love hearing from you. We certainly do. We're going to like read emails. We've not had any. say Yeah, that's a shame. Yeah, come on guys. Cough it Particularly if, you know, you work on the set, we'd love to know. Tell us about the Specs Famous fans.

Speaker: Yeah, please tell us other Specsavers guys to laugh. I bet they are. I bet they are. A joy to have around. And they do audiology as well, lest we forget. Lest we forget. Okay.

Speaker: Well, thanks everyone. Yeah. Love ya. Bye. Bye.
