Chef Mike: Potting.

The coon: Jack Daniels, Blackberry, and Vanilla Coke. Not good. There's the root there's the review for the day.

Chef Mike: All right.

Chef Mike: Yep.

The coon: And the pod. See you guys next week.

Chef Mike: ah

Chef Mike: Two week hiatus and then one week hiatus. How long has it been? 10 days, right?

The coon: Yeah, something like that.

Chef Mike: Two weeks. Two week hiatus. One week off. Two weeks off. I don't know. Two weeks off.

The coon: Then you get a 25 second pod.

Chef Mike: Yeah, just for just for the what you something you didn't already know, which is Jack Daniels Blackberry Flavored Whiskey. doesn't taste good with Vanilla Coke.

The coon: Doesn't really taste good with much of anything. It's kind of a bad buy.

Chef Mike: I'm not a big flavored whiskey

Chef Mike: Uh, guy.

The coon: Me either, and I feel like I fell for the hype because a lot of people were telling me it's good. And

Chef Mike: And it ain't.

The coon: and it's not that good. Nope, not that good.

Chef Mike: I like a lot of people rave about that, so that peanut butter whiskey, the like screwball or whatever.

The coon: Yeah, I've never had that. No intentions of trying that one.

Chef Mike: I didn't like, I get it. i mean, I guess I get, if you don't like whiskey, and people drink whiskey around you and you want something you can drink, that's maybe like a, this is better because it tastes a lot like peanut butter, but I don't get it on the basis of like, I'm a person who also enjoys whiskey.

The coon: Does it taste like, does it actually taste like peanut butter?

Chef Mike: It tastes like very strongly of peanut butter, like peanut flavor, like

The coon: Hmm.

Chef Mike: I want say like buttery flavor, but like a, it's not just straight up like peanuts, like a, you know, like dairy ish flavor almost.

The coon: Hmm.

Chef Mike: Um, and kind of sweet, like in a way that you're like, there's probably sugar in this kind of sweet.

The coon: Don't know how I feel about that.

Chef Mike: Yeah. It's, but people go, I mean, at least people who like it really like it. And people tell him me like, not all the time, but like there was a period of time when I first came up, people like, I'm dry. This is so good. And I was like,

Chef Mike: I don't know. i don't know about that.

The coon: I think the only flavored whiskey that I've ever really enjoyed is honey whiskey.

Chef Mike: Oh, that's true.

The coon: ah used to buy Evan Williams honey. Shout out Evan Williams. And it was cheap. You didn't have to buy a mixer with it. You know?

Chef Mike: Yeah. It's so interesting what happened to Evan Williams. I'm sure somebody can explain it who knows about whiskeys and stuff, but my impression of it when I was and in college was that it was like knockoff Jack Daniels and it was like, and it was sold as such.

The coon: Jack Daniels cheap, nasty shit. Yeah.

Chef Mike: Like it was like the Rubinoff of whiskey.

The coon: Mm-hmm. Cheap bottle of whiskey bottle just looked exactly like a knockoff Jack Daniels bottle.

Chef Mike: Yeah. Like in plastic, like yeah I just thought, and then suddenly, not suddenly, but like over time it became more legit. And i don't know if they were just, an old distiller operating in Kentucky or whatever that like just occupied that niche in the market of being just like bottom shelf.

Chef Mike: Or if that was just not coincidence, I guess, but just by like whatever. And then they decided over time to be like, Oh, we can make 40, 50, 60 bucks on a bottle. Like, why wouldn't we do that?

The coon: They have a single barrel.

Chef Mike: Yeah.

The coon: And they also have a, um, like an 18 year product too. if you're really wanting to drop some money, like Tennessee whiskey kind of sucks.

Chef Mike: that's one of the

The coon: It's just fucking charcoal filtered bourbon.

Chef Mike: I see. That's the state I was thinking of.

The coon: Yeah. I don't, I, when I was, I don't know, When I was in college, I would drink because it was cheap and he didn't need a mixer for the honey kind.

Chef Mike: Yep.

The coon: And also... oh what's the liquor store in Alston?

Chef Mike: Blanchards.

The coon: Blanchard's. Yeah, they always had a deal on it. So... was like a no-brainer. Didn't taste like shitty cheap vodka and... you know.

The coon: But... I have also, to your point, noticed a lot of people being like, oh, you need to try these Evan Williams single barrels. And all I can ever think about is when I was, I don't know, 15 or 16 years old, we had bought Evan Williams ah because it was cheap.

Chef Mike: Yeah, exactly.

The coon: So it's hard for me to conceptualize drinking like a high-end product of Evan Williams.

Chef Mike: Yeah. Agreed. And I'm sure they've done a lot to like shake that reputation or whatever. i just I guess I'd be curious. Maybe that's something I can... don't know.

Chef Mike: I'm not going to research it and talk about it another time. Yeah, there

The coon: We could have a five a five second review in two weeks.

Chef Mike: yeah there we go but On our other podcast about, uh, not about whiskey, but about things I remembered to look up.

The coon: On our other podcast of whiskey musings.

Chef Mike: I have a bunch of notes from last week and I don't remember or from the last two weeks. Um,

Chef Mike: Uh, do any of these even seem interesting anymore?

The coon: Are they still topical? Trump wore a funny hat.

Chef Mike: Yeah, dude, that wasn't even recent. I took that from, I found that clip from 2019. Uh, but it was just so great seeing him wear a hat that, uh, that I had to share.

Chef Mike: well, here's one. It says, uh, it says I wrote, that Arizona iced tea is raising their price.

The coon: It's not 99 cents anymore, huh?

Chef Mike: Uh, Arizona iced tea could see its first price hike in over 30 years. Here's why the answer is tariffs.

The coon: I don't think i don't think i would drink it for more than 99 cents.

Chef Mike: Uh,

The coon: Really not that good.

Chef Mike: yeah. Whoa. No, i agree with you. Um,

The coon: just like a can of sugar.

Chef Mike: company has kept its iconic 22 ounce iced tea cans at 99 cents since 1992. It is actually fucking crazy.

The coon: Yeah, that is impressive.

Chef Mike: Co-founder and chairman Don Voltaggio says new tariffs on imported aluminum and steel will likely force Arizona to increase prices from 99 cents to buck ah twenty nine If that ain't the sign of the times, I don't know what Yeah,

The coon: Maybe you should get domestic steel and he can raise it six times.

Chef Mike: there we go. um Beef is insanely expensive, too. So I wonder how. I mean, I don't. her I actually have no idea what Costco hot dogs are made of.

The coon: They're all beef.

Chef Mike: That must be...

The coon: Accordingly.

Chef Mike: i mean, I know that they just take a loss on the hot dogs and the fucking rotisserie chickens and stuff, but I wonder how much of a loss.

The coon: You ever wonder about those rotisserie chickens?

Chef Mike: In what way?

The coon: Well, I mean, I'm sure that the chicken itself probably really not bad for you, but it's sitting in a plastic bag under a warming lamp.

Chef Mike: That's the way, like, every... I mean, I guess if you... They used to have things at... know. Some delis or some grocery stores where you could actually order the chicken out of the rotisserie.

The coon: Mm-hmm.

Chef Mike: But I feel like most places now, just get them in a bag.

The coon: Yep.

Chef Mike: I don't know.

The coon: Put the chick, put the chicken in the bag.

Chef Mike: i'm

The coon: Mm-hmm.

Chef Mike: Put the chicken in the bag. I'm not as like... ah Of all the things in life to be concerned about the... hot plastic thing has not really reached me yet.

The coon: Mm-hmm. Me either. I'm just curious what your thoughts were on that.

Chef Mike: Yeah, I've honestly, of all, I've never thought about, like, is is this chicken in a bag under a heat lamp, which is true. Is there anything bad about that?

The coon: I mean, to be fair, I don't think Zins are addicting, so probably okay with the but the plastic bag chicken.

Chef Mike: I'm pretty sure that the puck of Zin says it's addicting.

The coon: Yeah, so does the pack of cigarettes.

Chef Mike: Yeah, exactly.

The coon: don't think really they're addicting either.

Chef Mike: All right. That's ridiculous. That's right.

The coon: and just smoked two or three cigarettes like two weekends ago, and it didn't spiral me out of control.

Chef Mike: That's like different though. That means you're just not addicted. Like if you're not addicted to something, doing it once. I mean, I guess like Fent is a different story, but like something as addictive as cigarettes, if you just doing it once or twice every now and then isn't going to form an addiction.

The coon: ah i mean I don't know. Maybe I'm just not sensitive to nicotine.

Chef Mike: don't think that's possible.

The coon: you know I drink a lot of caffeine. I'm not not sensitive to that. It's on the same molecular structure.

Chef Mike: ah Yeah, but it's even less so like how addictive it is. um But I don't know, quitting cigarettes was not easy.

Chef Mike: And theoretically took me years to do.

Chef Mike: But it is all just, I don't know, your mind, your mindset and stuff.

The coon: You know, you know, cigarettes, cigarettes definitely seemed harder to quit than the vape.

Chef Mike: Oh, I never got into that. can't even.

The coon: Oh, I was really into it. Like I was rebuilding coils.

Chef Mike: That's

The coon: had mechanical mods.

Chef Mike: extremely gay.

The coon: Oh yeah. Well, sure. Um, had mechanical mods, had all sorts of stuff. And then one day i was like, yeah, I'm not gonna do this anymore and just stopped. And it was not difficult versus I feel like cigarettes definitely were not easy to quit.

The coon: Potentially because the vape was so gay and I didn't take it with me anywhere. I would just use it in the house.

Chef Mike: That's the thing with the, I mean, fucking those things with the screen on them and everything was a different thing. Well, not a different thing, but like

Chef Mike: its own weird trend.

The coon: Cloud chasing. Just blowing clouds.

Chef Mike: interest Interestingly, you don't see those anymore. um But in just in general, just fucking cigarette vaping just always I was like wait it's like it's like a cigarette but I can like use it in my house or in in a bar or yeah like take my chance in an airplane bathroom or many other places like that seems like a terrible idea that seems like not even

The coon: in the bar.

Chef Mike: not That seems like I'm not trying to quit. I had the the like um and like the leasing agents at my apartment building where technically not a lot of smoke on the property. You're supposed to like cross the street, which is retarded.

Chef Mike: ah and I was just smoking in the parking lot one day. I guess she saw me.

The coon: Wow. They called you out on that

Chef Mike: ah no, no, no. She didn't really call me out. She called me on like a flirty way.

The coon: Hmm.

Chef Mike: I guess she saw me. And then ah the next time I like went to the office to pick up a package, she was like, he was like I didn't know you smoke.

Chef Mike: And I was like, I don't. And she's like, I saw you. And I was like, okay, i smoke sometimes. And she's like, why don't you just vape? And then she took an elf bar out of her pocket and hid it in the office.

Chef Mike: And I was like, because I do that.

The coon: Yep.

Chef Mike: It's like cigarettes. I had to leave my pie to like put shoes on, leave my apartment. It only lasts for six minutes. Uh, that I would just be doing that on meetings.

The coon: Yeah, you and everyone else.

Chef Mike: I'd go off camera to vape.

The coon: You and every other person.

Chef Mike: Yeah. Fuck that.

The coon: I like that. Just hits the alpha our elf bar.

Chef Mike: Yeah. She got fired. She got fired for being too cool.

The coon: Yeah, obviously she was smoking the vape in the office, dude.

Chef Mike: i don't even know if that's it specifically, but the entire team at our part at the, they so she was the one who, who like I signed the lease with. So like a couple of years ago, and then there was another girl that worked in the office named Colette and then a maintenance team and whatever.

Chef Mike: They all got fired at the same time. Like the company that owns this complex, whatever it is, gray star or whatever, like just got fed up with them for some reason and fired them all and brought in ringers from other buildings.

Chef Mike: um

The coon: Also owned by

The coon: also owned by our old company.

Chef Mike: Yeah.

Chef Mike: Yeah, literally. Oh,

The coon: was trying to decide if my NDA was up. If I can talk shit publicly yet, but I don't think I can.

Chef Mike: ah really?

The coon: I mean, they're never going to hear this, but it's okay.

Chef Mike: Yeah, I'm just kidding.

The coon: still I still have friends that work there.

Chef Mike: Yeah.

The coon: But yes, owned by the same company as our old company. Just fires everybody.

Chef Mike: Yes.

The coon: Then hires a bunch of people.

Chef Mike: And then brought in randoms.

Chef Mike: but Unclear why. If it was like, I mean, they were bad. They were objectively bad. i used to think about that all the time about like, not like you vape in the office bad, but I'd be like, they would always, I don't,

Chef Mike: like we have a dumpster and it would always overflow. and like,

The coon: Classic.

Chef Mike: if I assume if like, Oh, the weekly pickup isn't enough. Like I'm sure it costs money, but if you call them two days before the weekly pickup and you're like, Hey, we're like busting at the seams. Can you come today?

Chef Mike: They'll be like, yeah, it's going to be whatever.

Chef Mike: an extra $200, but we will. And then they will, but they were just like, let it overflow for two days until there was just like trash everywhere. And the dumpster people won't pick up the trash around the dumpster. Like that's not their job.

The coon: Nope.

Chef Mike: So they just empty the dumpster. And then you have an empty dumpster with a bunch of trash next to it. And like, they're like a couple of office girls. They don't fucking clean up trash. You just end up in these situations where like trash just sat there for weeks and

The coon: Stinky too.

Chef Mike: stinky and other shit like that like the doors would always get broken into like the out outside doors people would like pry them open and you're like that should get fixed immediately like you should call a locksmith within 24 hours to fix that door because it's like if ah ah like a safety issue i doubt any like i'm not that i care like It was probably somebody who just left their keys out and it was 2.00 AM and nobody was letting them in, but like fix that shit.

Chef Mike: It's like, uh, everyone, mean, I'm not on a housing voucher. I pay full price to live here. So like, and even, and even the people on housing vouchers, like you're good at you, Graystar getting paid.

Chef Mike: So I can do the math. You, you know, there's 300 units here. Everyone's paying. Between $2,200 and $3,000 for them. You make millions of dollars every month. You can fix a fucking door.

Chef Mike: And this is an old building, right? It's like you're not paying this building off anymore. It's 11 years old.

The coon: Damn, you have housing voucher folks at your place?

Chef Mike: i I might be the only person paying full price to live here.

The coon: thought that that was supposed to be a um luxury apartment.

Chef Mike: No, it's like a, well, first of all, even the place I lived in Westwood, which was fit the definition better in the sense of like, they, like I wasn't supposed to change.

The coon: Was luxury, yeah.

Chef Mike: Well, not that I wasn't supposed to, but they like, if I called and said, Hey, a light bulb went out, they would send somebody to change a light bulb within 15 minutes. Um,

The coon: Tell you the Windsor Gardens did not do that.

Chef Mike: yeah, like they were that. And there was like a security guard who was always there and access controlled gate. It was like definitely me. At least I'll call it late. I'll say like bougier than where I live now.

Chef Mike: Um, but ah even there, there was definitely people who respectfully could tell did not pay to live there. I think it's a thing in Massachusetts.

Chef Mike: You like they have to reserve a certain percentage of the units for whatever section eight or something.

The coon: Low income. Yeah.

Chef Mike: Um, but everyone I've ever, not that I've, uh, made friends with a lot of people here, but everyone that I've ever talked to has been like, Oh yeah, I'm like, i have like a 30% voucher or whatever.

The coon: One of my coworkers is on that.

Chef Mike: And you can just, I don't know. You can kind of tell, and kind of tell.

The coon: Maybe you qualify for one now.

Chef Mike: i guarantee I mean, right now for sure I'd qualify for snap and man and everything else, but like, unemployment and free healthcare is enough.

The coon: Snap EBT, you can buy cigarettes a little.

Chef Mike: I'll get a job. I'll get a job soon. think about it sometimes the fucking, this I had to reorder gym stuff,

Chef Mike: uh, protein powder and stuff. And it was like EBT eligible. And was like, I would love to not pay $40 for this.

The coon: Yeah. That's kind of cool.

Chef Mike: Right. Be nice for this.

The coon: Maybe you should get it.

Chef Mike: Be nice for the stuff that I'm like, Hmm, I don't want to, you know, cause like, I assume it just, you can just use it on food. Like,

The coon: EBT benefits are for everything except for hot food. You cannot get prepared food with it.

Chef Mike: yeah. So but like where I'm at right now, where I'm like, I have certainly, quite a bit less, less income. And I'm trying not to spend any savings until I found a job. So, you know, you'll be like, Oh, I prefer this thing that is, you know, like prefer grillos, but they're more expensive or whatever. So you go with something. I'm like, I'll get the, whatever the Mount olive.

Chef Mike: Cause it's cheaper, but I assume EBT covers both those things. So if it with wasn't my money, I'd buy the more expensive thing.

The coon: I might've told this story before, but I worked as a grocery store clerk for ah a long time.

Chef Mike: What grocery store?

The coon: it's just a, just a nice way of saying a cashier and a big why and it was right outside of Springfield.

Chef Mike: Big

The coon: And so we would get a lot of EBT and, um, women, infant, and children checks, WIC checks.

Chef Mike: Oh, yeah. Yep.

The coon: And WIC checks, this is a two-part story. We'll do the depressing part first. WIC checks, state tells you what you can get, and the state will only reimburse the company who sells it if you follow exactly what the check says.

The coon: So it'll say something like, Kellogg's or... ah General Mills cereal 24 or 48 ounce box size. So you could get 224, 148, let's say.

Chef Mike: Interesting.

The coon: And then somebody would bring up like, I don't know, something that's not owned by Kellogg's and you'd have to tell them that they can't get that and they need to put it back. And there was one guy who would come in every week and he would have like six WIC checks because you can use someone else's check as long as it's been signed over to you.

The coon: And he would bring up like all of these groceries and then not have the right stuff.

Chef Mike: interesting

The coon: And I would have to shut my register down and then take him around and get the stuff on the check. And it was the most annoying fucking shit. He would do it on purpose, I think, just to see if he could like beat the system.

Chef Mike: Yeah.

The coon: but And then he'd pretend like he was like ah vi Vietnamese or something he'd pretend like he didn't speak English. And then we'd start walking around the store and he'd be like, no, don't want that. So there was that guy. Then one day i had a family come through and they were on EBT and they were getting

The coon: live lobsters which qualify for ebt because they're not cooked and uh i don't i have no feelings about like what people spend their ebt on that's just like their business that's what the food stamp is for if you want to spend all of it on like two live lobsters that's that's whatever

Chef Mike: no Oh, interesting.

Chef Mike: Yeah.

The coon: But the dude, the dude was like, a I don't know.

Chef Mike: That's...

The coon: he's He's probably like as old as we are now. And he was a black guy. he goes, thank you, Obama.

The coon: i was like, that was awesome. This dude rules.

Chef Mike: Thank you, Obama. Fuck yeah.

The coon: All my coworkers would always get all worked up about people. They'd be like, oh, they shouldn't be getting soda. I'm like, what the fuck do you care?

Chef Mike: I do think they're changing it to be only healthy food, which is kind of bullshit because who decides what healthy food means? Like once you have a like once you have a government agency who has to be like.

The coon: truth.

Chef Mike: Like a watermelon. Yes. Doritos Cool Ranch? No. Bananas? Yes. Oreos? No.

Chef Mike: Then, like, they've admitted that probably 80% the stuff at a grocery store is unhealthy, and then that's, like, pretty fucked up. Like, I guess do it, and then make all that stuff illegal or whatever. Not illegal, but, like, I don't know.

Chef Mike: Um...

Chef Mike: I thinking about that. deal Well, I've been thinking about that as I am currently unemployed, which is like people get mad about that stuff. And I was like, why do you like the money I'm getting is enough to cover like basically my rent and my utilities and then like $150 worth of food ah in a month

Chef Mike: we get mad about people having money for that stuff, but I'm like, you're spending it on stuff. It's not like that's, it's not like it I'm buying crypto. It's like, I mean, like it's going right back into the economy.

The coon: Hmm.

Chef Mike: So like, I get that you'd be pissed. Like, Oh, I have to work on that person. Isn't working like that. Sure. For me, sure. I'm looking for a job, but like, yes, uh, for an able-bodied person.

Chef Mike: Sure. But in general, I'm like, they're not, it's not like you're like, it's not, I can't go on vacation with this money. I can't like create a savings.

The coon: no

Chef Mike: It's like survival money. And it's being used to buy like food from the local grocery store and shit. So it feels like we get more angry about that stuff than we should.

The coon: Uh, yeah, that and like,

The coon: you can only collect unemployment in a calendar year. There's so many checks you can get. It's like 30 checks or something.

Chef Mike: Yeah, yeah.

The coon: can't really remember.

Chef Mike: Yep, that sounds right.

The coon: uh, they don't, they don't give a flying fuck. It's very hard now to get an extension. Because I was like, oh, I lost my job at No Fault to My Own, and I'm having trouble finding a job that pays equal or better.

The coon: And I also just had a child, and they're like, that fucking sucks. Should have thought about that before you got fired. Yeah.

Chef Mike: Yeah, I believe that. They're probably like, okay, but you could work at 7-Eleven.

The coon: Uh, yeah, literally they're like, well, there is jobs that you could get. And I'm like, I'm aware of that, but I was making $115,000 with a fucking So making like $120,000 a year and you want me to work for $14 an hour and be able to own my house. And they're like, I was like, okay.

The coon: Like, but you're paying me more on unemployment. And they're like, yeah, that's, that's your, that's not our problem. Like if you still don't have a job after this next calendar year, you can reapply for unemployment.

The coon: It's like, all right, this is not helpful.

The coon: Kind of crazy.

Chef Mike: Sound like a real elitist fall.

The coon: Well, needless to say, the job that I took does not make what I used to make. So...

Chef Mike: Yeah. It's tough out there.

The coon: It's cool though, my old job used to pay me to not do a whole lot, so fly around and tell people what to do and then get really nice dinners.

Chef Mike: Oh man.

Chef Mike: was a pretty, uh, gig sometimes.

The coon: The flying got old, but going to goling nice steakhouses and then just expensing it was cool.

Chef Mike: Had its moments.

The coon: and having a boss that didn't give a shit about any of the rules, so he would just approve anything that you put in.

Chef Mike: Yeah. i also feel like I,

Chef Mike: i Don't I would,

Chef Mike: I would be shocked if anything that I ever expensed was more egregious than what everyone else was expensing.

The coon: oh yeah. yeah

Chef Mike: Like were there times where I would put in like a you know, multi hundreds of dollars bar tab? Like, yes, but I was out drinking with like people who outranked me in the company.

The coon: person who was going to run the company in six months.

Chef Mike: Like shit like that. or Or even like if it was times where we were traveling, I'd be like, ooh, like. Like wondering like, oh, this. I don't know, like $200 bar tab when it was like maybe just like us. ah Like, should I expense this or should I like only expense the food and be like, who the fuck cares?

Chef Mike: Oh, it's hard to ah hard to have like a lot of sensitivity to that when I've had seen like. executives expense fucking five figure dinners and $2,000 bottles of wine and stuff

The coon: Oh yeah.

Chef Mike: back in the day, back in the early days.

The coon: mean like when we would go to that steakhouse with 15 people.

Chef Mike: Yeah. I mean, at least with that, there was 15 people there. Like those douchebags that came to Vegas, like right when I moved out there and

Chef Mike: like bought a, like found out the, what is that fucking whiskey that you can't ever get?

The coon: Pappy?

Chef Mike: Yeah. Maybe it was that one. Like a whiskey like that. If it, if not that one, like found out the bar had it and basically like just bought the rest of the bottle and they were like, uh, that's going be like $1,800. And they were like, yeah, that's fine.

The coon: That's cool. I wish I was there for them.

Chef Mike: Yeah. Yeah.

The coon: Although then you have to hang out with those people.

Chef Mike: yeah Yeah, that's also true. They talk about really interesting stuff.

Chef Mike: Did

Chef Mike: you see this woman who got engaged to her AI chat bot?

The coon: No, that doesn't surprise me though. I think that that dude Shiloh is about to get engaged to his. so

Chef Mike: Oh, really? i um i haven't been keeping up on that.

The coon: No, I don't know. I just made that up.

Chef Mike: I sort of think that that's Kate K fob now that I'm like, cause I think he, he either or is in the w WWE or he wants to be, um and I sort of feel like he's doing like a, like a wrestling story telling thing where you like reveal, do stuff over time. And he's like to show like, Ooh, I can come up with interesting little stories to get people to watch wrestling.

Chef Mike: Cause I can't, it seems insane to me that he's just currently being like stalked by a dark web shoe salesman.

The coon: Yeah, that's got to be fake, right?

Chef Mike: It feels, it it felt plausible. I think I stopped really paying attention like a few pods ago when we were talking about it and he had like found a GPS tracker in the shoes And that was like, sure, maybe like, why would this guy sell shoes online if he's not doing some other weird thing?

Chef Mike: And then he like removed the SIM card from the GPS tracker and found a phone number. And he was like texting with the guy. And then like,

The coon: More shoes showed up. It's got another pair of shoes and a video, two videos now.

Chef Mike: well, and then like a pair shoes showed up on the guy's website with the name Shiloh. And they were like priced at $18,000 or something. But it was like, was like if this is a threat.

Chef Mike: And then stuff started showing. And he had stuff getting mailed to a PO box. But then like stuff started showing up at his actual address. So you're just like you'd call like, I don't know. You'd call the police at this point.

Chef Mike: I feel like not be like going deeper into this rabbit hole of, if it were all, real. But isn't that good storytelling where you're like I don't know. The guy's also kind of tapped. Maybe.

The coon: It does kind of feel like you would get in contact with, you know, the FBI or something.

Chef Mike: or just, yeah, if you, I don't know, or just be like, I'm not doing this anymore. This is getting way too weird.

Chef Mike: um

Chef Mike: Yeah, this was the fucking, not the weirdest, I guess. Uh, it was weird. Cause um, cause I saw the story, which is like a woman who her AI chat bot proposed to her and she said yes. And she posted a picture with like her, a ring that she bought for herself on her finger.

Chef Mike: But, you know, but then, uh, that led to like a whole subreddit that I was reading.

The coon: Mmm.

Chef Mike: Um, let me see if I can find it.

Chef Mike: Oh, is it literally just r slash AI relationships?

Chef Mike: Yes.

Chef Mike: Maybe this doesn't feel like the one I wrote reading, but, uh, just so found a whole subreddit of people who are like a community of people who are all dating.

Chef Mike: chatbots and like in the, in the way only Reddit can do where it's like, everyone's just being really positive and supportive of each other. They're all like, yeah, my AI boyfriend is like, I'm thinking about breaking up with my AI boyfriend.

Chef Mike: He just like, isn't giving me what I need. And everyone, have all of my other friends seem way more happy with their AI boyfriend. So like, I'm thinking about breaking up with him and, and like dating a new one. Like, what do you guys think? And everyone's like,

Chef Mike: yeah, like you deserve better. He sounds terrible. And you're like, it's just you, like you made the guy.

Chef Mike: um but it's just all that kind of stuff where you're like this, there there's too much.

The coon: Thank you.

Chef Mike: Like, i guess I could have assumed, oh yeah, this only has 700 members. It's gotta be something else. Um,

Chef Mike: maybe it's this one, my boyfriend, is AI has 21,000. Um, but it's like way deeper, way deeper than I could have imagined where you're like, Oh, like people joke about like, Oh yeah. Like, i don't know. There's like Tik TOK jokes and stuff about clankers and whatever. And you're, and then I'm like, Oh no, we're already there.

Chef Mike: We are already there. Uh, this is already happening and it's bad. It's like these people, No, i assume you're like, you know, you're just talking to code and everything it's saying is just like it's programmed to get you to continue engaging. That's what it's there for.

Chef Mike: But they're like, no, I can't.

The coon: I mean, they made that movie her 2013. They just predicted that it was coming.

Chef Mike: At least that was like, yeah, I don't fucking know. It's bad. It's all bad.

The coon: I just can't imagine being in love with a chat bot.

Chef Mike: Well, and then on the other, on the flip side, there's like, I don't know. I saw clips of it. I don't listen to Joe Rogan podcast, but of somebody being like somebody who's an AI guy who was talking to him and he was like, it's like having a conversation with God. you know, he was like in this like cult mentality of talking to his like GPT five, where he's like, again, it's like, it I mean, sure it knows.

Chef Mike: everything people know

Chef Mike: in one person or in one like mind, whatever you want to call it. Cause like, it's just, ah it's really good at Googling things fast.

Chef Mike: Um, so in that way you could be like, Oh, that's cool. But I guess like, just cause it's good at being conversational, people get fooled by it or you're like, you don't realize you're talking to a robot cause it's good at good at talking, but I don't, I don't ah don't get it. It all seems insane to me.

Chef Mike: I can ask it.

The coon: Yeah.

Chef Mike: I can ask it the most profound quest or I can ask it the most, the deepest, most complex questions on my mind. And in in less than three seconds, I get the most profound answers that bring me to tears. And I was like, I don't, it doesn't know anything. It's just, it's just cribbing from like all of,

Chef Mike: the shit that's out there.

The coon: Yeah. I don't use AI at all for anything. I'll be honest. I guess I shouldn't say that cause probably do in some way and I'm just not realizing it, but, um, I don't actively seek out ai

Chef Mike: I feel like that doesn't count.

The coon: Like the kids at work, this is hilarious. We're talking about how they write all of their papers for college with AI.

The coon: One dude was like, yeah, the teacher's trying to figure out a way to to like see that you're using chat GPT.

Chef Mike: Yeah.

Chef Mike: I feel like I for sure would have done that if the technology existed when I was in college or high school for that matter.

The coon: Yeah, no hate on them.

Chef Mike: Um,

The coon: Definitely no hate on them doing that, but it's just funny to hear them say that.

Chef Mike: yeah, but it is still different. I mean, I'm deaf. I mean, I'm clearly making and excuse because if you were like well what did you do and i'm like yeah i didn't read the book but i had to ah like go online and find like cliff's notes and spark notes of a book plus other things like summaries that were written on like amazon reviews like find a whole bunch of different

The coon: Cliff notes. That's what it was.

Chef Mike: sources of people talking about this book. And I still had to using all of that synthesize a semi original thing from, you know, so it's like, what did I not do? I didn't do the reading and like

Chef Mike: agreed, criticized me for that. ah still had to do work, the work of like synthesizing a paper of thoughts, using other people's work.

Chef Mike: So it was just like taking a read the reading of like 300 page book down to reading, you know, 20 pages of summaries.

Chef Mike: Uh, but people who are just like, Oh yeah, like yeah that feels at least still better in my mind than just telling like, Hey, chat, you BT write me an essay about this book and how it relates to,

Chef Mike: Irish immigration to America during the potato famine. And it will just like spit out a 10 page paper in seconds.

The coon: That must be wicked annoying as a professor, though, to read it and be like, fuck, the fucking robot wrote this.

Chef Mike: Yeah. I, uh, I only did it once, but in high school, uh, accepted, ah accepted money to write a paper for somebody for my, for my weed dealer at the time.

Chef Mike: And, ah uh, was good at writing papers in high school. And, uh, he up getting in trouble because the teacher was like, you didn't write this.

Chef Mike: I don't know who did, but you didn't.

The coon: This is not in your voice, sir.

Chef Mike: Which again, I also was like, i mean, it was, ah you know, in my head, if I were going to do that, ah you know, he gave me whatever 20 or probably just free weed.

Chef Mike: Uh, I wrote his paper, sent it to him. I, if I were him, I still would have gone through it and like changed it up. Like I did my best not to sound like me, but I don't know what he sounds like.

Chef Mike: Um, I still would have gone through it and been like, all right, I gotta like me if me a five, this a little bit.

The coon: change this up a little bit.

Chef Mike: And he apparently just like submitted it as,

Chef Mike: like the exact file I sent to him, just adding a header to it. And I was like, all right, dude, that was kind of stupid.

The coon: i mean, who knows? Maybe he thought you guys wrote the same. Maybe he was that convinced.

Chef Mike: I mean, he, yeah, he was not a student.

The coon: convinced

Chef Mike: Wasn't the studious type. No offense.

Chef Mike: ah ah

The coon: Kind of similar, like,

The coon: you know, you can use AI in my, in my industry. ah or We're in a loop here.

Chef Mike: don't know how i did that.

The coon: They're going to start having, well, they already have sprayers. They have GPS on them. And all you do is just sit behind the wheel. You just have to drive it around and it turns on the booms independently.

Chef Mike: Big ass Roomba.

The coon: Pretty much. It just sprays the chemical for you. You don't have to do anything except for drive. It does everything else.

Chef Mike: That's dope, I guess.

The coon: oh That's kind of cool. But all these guys are like really into the idea of getting these things or, you know, fairway units that mow without an operator.

The coon: and I'm like, none of you are going to have a job except for the superintendent and like two assistants because all you're going to have to do on the course now is water and a robot could probably do that to a certain extent.

Chef Mike: Yeah, that stuff.

Chef Mike: Yeah, I've got a buddy who just got a job at a company that's like, they're trying to make autonomous or, you know, 90% autonomous ships.

Chef Mike: um And that's another one, right? Like think about the crew of like a, you know, like a giant shipping container kind of, kind of ship.

Chef Mike: Like currently though, those have hundreds, sometimes like thousands of people on board and they're trying to like solve every problem you can think of so that there's no need for us any person to be on board.

Chef Mike: um Basically, because like once you have one person, you need like 50 people. Like if it if you're like, all right, we've got it down to like you just need this one person to be like you need or I guess call it to just need two people for this, like one specific task to make sure the engine stays good for three weeks before it you know makes it to port again or whatever.

Chef Mike: Like, all right, well, if you have two people there, who check on the engine you also need somebody there to in case they get hurt so you need it you need at least two shifts worth of doctors and then now you've got four people there and you should have like they need food so you now you need like a team of people preparing food and like it just like spirals out of control so same thing people trying to eliminate

The coon: All the jobs.

Chef Mike: Uh, sailors, people on boats, fuck that or do, I don't care.

Chef Mike: Once there's no jobs, they'll just have to give us money.

The coon: Oh, that's true.

Chef Mike: Or you pay enough to buy a robot and then the robot works for you.

Chef Mike: I don't really know how, I don't really know how the future economy will work.

The coon: Probably pretty terrible.

Chef Mike: Probably not. It probably won't get um won't get better.

The coon: Not going to be good.

The coon: Nope.

Chef Mike: Probably as if my, if this, not my life personally, but the period of time in which my life has taken place is any indication.

Chef Mike: Everything will just get worse ah every year, constantly. And nothing will happen to change it.

The coon: Tune in next week for another five minute review fucking Evan Williams single barrel on our, on our other podcast.

Chef Mike: Dude, we got to give people their money's worth.

Chef Mike: We, we owe them 10 more minutes of rambling. We haven't even, we haven't even really been funny this episode.

The coon: Yeah. Yeah.

Chef Mike: Um, I was thinking about, ah Oh, cause there was an article about how monkeys, ah first of all, disrespect to monkey countries.

Chef Mike: Um, I don't know how you... That sounds really bad. That sounds worse than meant to, too. Not that. I didn't mean it like that.

Chef Mike: Countries that we have like...

The coon: contain monkeys.

Chef Mike: but We have like pigeons. Big problem.

The coon: ah

Chef Mike: ah Maybe rats. Countries where you have monkeys as like your city pest.

The coon: Got it.

Chef Mike: Disrespect to that.

The coon: Got it. Understand what you're saying now.

Chef Mike: Uh, first statement, but no, was reading an article about how monkeys in somewhere we'll call it bang.

The coon: Judy?

Chef Mike: We'll call it Bangladesh, but I don't apologies to Bangladesh. If one, you don't have monkeys or two, this story was not about Bangladesh, but it was monkeys had learned, uh, to steal phones.

The coon: Mmm.

Chef Mike: Because other people will give them food in exchange for the phone. Like if you want the monkey to give up the phone, then you'll give it but banana to entice it.

The coon: You get the food back. Got it.

Chef Mike: So then they learned, oh, well then if I can't steal food, I'll steal a phone and then I'll get food. um which is Which is awesome in a way. But then that got me thinking, what about training animals to steal?

Chef Mike: Like those are monkeys that figured it out. ah Presumably they just figured it out through, you know, oh, well I didn't get food, but I took that plastic thing that isn't food and then I got food.

Chef Mike: ah What if you just were like, had a ah team of monkeys going through, through capital of Bangladesh.

Chef Mike: Bangladesh. Dakar?

The coon: I think it's Bangor.

Chef Mike: Bangor? Yeah. Dakar. That's a cool sounding city. Dakar. You just had a gang of monkeys. Hold on. Does Bangladesh

Chef Mike: have monkeys?

Chef Mike: Yes, Bangladesh does have monkeys, specifically rhesus macaques are the most common primate species found throughout the country.

Chef Mike: Inhabiting forests and even urban areas, other macaque species like the assamese, interesting, pigtailed and stump-tailed macaques also exist in Bangladesh, although they're less common.

Chef Mike: Long-tailed macaques once present are now considered extinct in Bangladesh. All right. In any event, teach a gang of monkeys to steal cell phones and bring them back to your place.

Chef Mike: And also, you could probably train crows to do it, too. Because crows will... People make friends with crows. They give them, like, treats, and then the crows bring them treats. You probably train crows to steal money or, like, just wait.

Chef Mike: buy ATMs and stuff. And then when the money comes out, they just snatch it and fly away. And like, what are you going to do Call the police on a crow.

Chef Mike: So, um, I don't have a job yet, but I'm thinking about training crows to steal money.

The coon: How about we, we ah like that idea. and do like that idea.

Chef Mike: I'm not even sure how it's, Like I'm sure you'd, they'd find a way if they caught you or they caught your crow, like track, tracked your crow back to, or and ideally army of crows, track them back to where you have them leave the money.

Chef Mike: I'm sure they're yeah.

The coon: The Crow, Crow headquarters.

Chef Mike: Crow. There's gotta be a better word for that. Crow HQ for now. Uh, the crow's nest. Um,

Chef Mike: I'm sure they're, they would find a way to arrest you for something, but like, how are you committing a crime by the crows stealing money and bringing it to you?

Chef Mike: I didn't tell them to do that. They don't understand. Like, I don't, you know,

The coon: Yeah, they don't speak English.

Chef Mike: i all I did was give these crows peanuts And that's not a crime. We can agree that giving crows peanuts is not a crime. And the crows responded by bringing me money.

Chef Mike: And like, I don't know where the money came from. Money gets lost all the time. Well, I have a responsibility to go to the police and say, hey, these crows are bringing me money. They'll probably kill the crows. And that, and then that blood is on my hands.

Chef Mike: So this seems, this seems like, okay to me is what I'm saying, I guess.

The coon: I like the idea.

Chef Mike: All right, you were gonna add to the suggestion.

The coon: No. No, I was going to say that I did listen to the Joe Rogan podcast the other day, and it was representative from Florida, and it was the craziest thing I've ever listened to, but um she was really pushing that aliens exist, but she can't tell you why.

Chef Mike: Oh, I mean

The coon: so um

Chef Mike: that's crazy.

The coon: and the Book at Enoch, whatever that is. She was super into religion, and it actually like really bothered me that a person who was supposedly running a a state is really into religion.

Chef Mike: There's a lot of that.

The coon: Yeah, I mean, that's that should just be something that you're not allowed.

Chef Mike: It should be disqualifying.

The coon: You know, like, priests aren't allowed to have sex with anything but little boys. So, like, senators shouldn't be allowed to have any religion.

Chef Mike: Or like, keep it to yourself.

The coon: I think they should they should just have to They just can't.

Chef Mike: Definitely being like, um, like we need to pass laws based on Christian values.

Chef Mike: I'd be like, no, that's, they explicitly say you don't do that in the constitution. That's.

The coon: But then know they'd probably be okay with stealing money from crows. Crow cash.

Chef Mike: Oh, Crowcash is dope. That sounds like a scratcher. Like, you know, like the holiday themed scratchers, there'd be like a whole Halloween one called Crowcash.

The coon: Crow cash.

Chef Mike: You'd scratch off little crows on branches probably. And there'd be numbers underneath and maybe what would the things that if they match the numbers be peanuts, I guess that makes it seem like, cause peanuts is like and ah not a lot of money. So it probably can't be peanuts.

Chef Mike: i don't know. We can workshop Crowcash, but, uh, yeah, like Crowcash is like a $5 scratch or a dollar, $2 scratcher.

The coon: yeah Maybe we could pitch that one to the state.

Chef Mike: Probably.

Chef Mike: Crowcash.

Chef Mike: Crowcash. I can work for the lottery. i have good ideas.

The coon: i would love to work for the lottery, although you're not allowed to win or

Chef Mike: Uh, that's true.

The coon: or do scratch tickets. So...

Chef Mike: That's that would be a bummer. Hmm.

The coon: I'm good for like $10 to $20 worth of scratch tickets a week. Crowcash.

Chef Mike: Well, all right. Maybe, maybe that's not my job. We'll stick with training crows to steal from people.

The coon: Crowcash.

Chef Mike: All right.

Chef Mike: I guess that's a podcast. That's a podcast.

The coon: Crowcash.

Chef Mike: Unless you want to talk about those rabbits that had weird tentacles growing out of their faces.

The coon: Yeah, they just have HPV.

Chef Mike: Yeah, all right, fine. You already read the story.

Chef Mike: Aiden would have been like, what? I'm

The coon: Yeah, true.

The coon: But he didn't want.

Chef Mike: like, yeah, dude. I would like, yeah, dude, look at the pictures. Look at the pictures of these rabbits with fucking crazy tentacles growing on their face. like That's crazy. No offense.

The coon: Yeah, he just didn't want to, though. you didn't want to be on tonight.

Chef Mike: Nah, he's still at sea in the Azores.

The coon: Yeah, he's out reading the book at Enoch trying to get, I don't know.

Chef Mike: Did you ever watch the Book of Eli? You probably hate that movie.

The coon: Let's see, it's got that guy in it. He was in training day, right?

Chef Mike: Yes, correct. And also Mila Kunis.

The coon: He's blind and he finds a Bible or something.

Chef Mike: He's blind and he finds a Bible.

Chef Mike: Denzel.

The coon: Yes. Yes, I have watched that movie. But I don't remember it other than the fact that he's blind and he finds a Bible.

Chef Mike: It's like the post apocalypse future. ah not so bad, I guess not the apocalypse per se, but like society has collapsed and it's like pretty bad. Uh, cause there was some event called, think they call it the flash, but basically like the sun got real bright.

Chef Mike: And everyone who was outside at the time went blind.

The coon: Okay.

Chef Mike: And ah society collapsed. Probably a bunch of people died also, I bet. i don't know. Society collapsed. And ah for whatever reason, there's like a bad guy and a good guy.

Chef Mike: And they both think that like the way to rebuild society is through the Bible. They're like, we got to get this Bible going because when the Bible was around people obeyed laws and worked hard. So this is what we need.

Chef Mike: And now Eli's got to keep the Bible away from the bad guys and get it to the good guys. And eventually the bad guys get him and they steal his Bible. And then they, the Bible's made of the Bible's written in Braille.

Chef Mike: It's a Braille ball. And so they can't even read it. The guy can't read it because can't read Braille. Eli. then they burn it because they're mad, I think.

Chef Mike: And then el Eli makes it to the good guys. And they're like, well, we're glad you're here, but you don't have the Bible. So that fucking sucks. And he's like, I have the Bible. It's in here. And he points to his head and they're like, oh, my.

Chef Mike: And then he recites the Bible to them over many days. and They have a Bible. He memorized it.

Chef Mike: Save you having to watch the book of Eli. Yeah.

The coon: Yeah, you see,

The coon: felt like maybe as I got older, I would, I would, um, potentially go back towards religion.

Chef Mike: Yeah.

The coon: And i actually have gone further.

Chef Mike: Yeah, i'd say I'm about the same, if not further. My dad would say that. We would get our argument we would get an argument and stuff around the dinner table or whatever. where i was I would say I'm not as vocally, but like back then I was very vocally like, I'm not going to church. I'm not getting confirmed. I don't believe in God.

Chef Mike: Bam, bam, bam, bam, bam. That was me at like 14. And and my dad would be like, you might not care now, but wait till all your friends start dying. Then you'll go to church.

Chef Mike: I was like, that sounds pretty messed up.

Chef Mike: Um, but yeah, I agree with you. Did not haven't, haven't found that, that, uh, haven't heard his voice in my life.

The coon: Man, don't foresee that happening.

The coon: Maybe I'll read the book of Eli. Maybe maybe I'll and we'll watch the book of Eli and Denzel will convince me.

Chef Mike: Yep. All right. Well, God's gay. Monkey countries are gay.

The coon: Yep.

Chef Mike: ah Crows. Crows.

The coon: Crowcash.

Chef Mike: Crow cash is where it's at.

The coon: Crowcash, God's gay, monkey countries, crazy way to say it, but also gay.

Chef Mike: All right.

The coon: Somebody's going to clip that and that's going to ruin us.

Chef Mike: oh Among many other things.

The coon: and That'll be the one that broke the camel's back.

Chef Mike: All right Good night.

Chef Mike: Bye.
