We have a range of content on this podcast and it's all to help you be that much more informed about the world we live in.
00:00:33
Speaker
So let's get educated, shall we?
00:00:36
Speaker
Hello everybody, welcome to the podcast. Yes, it is Mary back at you with another
Featuring Charlotte Emily Price: Body Image and Self-Love
00:00:42
Speaker
episode. I am super excited to talk to you today and share the conversation that we have with the wonderful Charlotte Emily Price. I cannot get over how amazing she is and how much positive body image and self-love that she's sharing with the world and also her general lifestyle and everything like that. I'm super excited to share that episode today with you guys. But before we begin, if you are new and you have never listened to the channel before, welcome. Thank you so much for tuning in.
00:01:05
Speaker
We discuss study tips and study advice, career pathways, how to actualize those career pathways. We also speak about mental health and wellness and essentially just a whole range of topics that are very much related to you and your studies, your education, just making you more knowledgeable about the world that you live in today. So if that sounds like something that you are interested in, please binge all the other episodes. We do have a fair number of episodes on the channel now.
00:01:30
Speaker
enough to be able to binge and really explore different career pathways because sometimes you wouldn't consider doing something because you think you have to do it a certain way and obviously on this podcast we talk a lot about that you don't necessarily need an ATAR to be added to the course that you want to or you don't necessarily have to be the absolute best in your studies to be able to follow the career path and follow your dreams.
Online Merch Store for Charity
00:01:56
Speaker
Yeah, that is just a little insight about what we do on this podcast and also very, very exciting news. And I've been doing this for the past couple of weeks now that we are opening an online merch store. And the coolest thing about this online merch store is not only will you be able to snag some awesome teacups or attractive pants or some awesome funky notebooks, but 100 percent of the profits from the purchases that you make from the store will be going to a charity, Bright Futures Child Aid into Development, an organization, sorry, I should say.
00:02:25
Speaker
Bright Futures Child Aid and Development organization. So I will speak more about them in a little bit again, but I am very, very proud to be partnering with them and to be giving 100% of the profits to them, especially because they help children in Uganda, Pakistan, countries around the world who obviously are underdeveloped and need support in the communities and their families for the women.
00:02:47
Speaker
for the children. So it's really great that we're supporting them. Sorry, you can hear my voice. It's a little bit sick at the moment. I thought that I would hopefully sleep it off in the last couple of nights. I've just been trying to rest my voice, but yeah, I am a little unwell. So I apologize about that. And also I do have to speak slightly quieter today because I obviously am living in an accommodation that is shared facilities.
00:03:14
Speaker
And so, yeah, I appreciate you guys being understanding of the environment that I'm in. Obviously, it is a little bit tricky right now, just readjusting to the new environment. Of course, the spatial like the audio spatial is going to be different. And it's very hard to record throughout the day when there's no one that's, you know, like talking or slamming doors to the bedrooms and things like that. So it is a little bit difficult, but I do appreciate and thank you for understanding. And I am very keen to share this episode with you guys today. So I won't hold you up much longer.
00:03:44
Speaker
I'm going to give you a bit of a life update now. What is happening this
Relocation to New South Wales: Adapting to Change
00:03:48
Speaker
week? Essentially, I obviously have moved to New South Wales, which is super, super exciting. And that was a big move that took up a lot of time, energy, mental energy, physical energy. And I have lived here for just over a week now. So I would still say that it does feel very different to be living in a different state.
00:04:07
Speaker
But also, I very much enjoy, and I very much enjoy the culture and the environment of the campus. I enjoy the accommodation that I'm living in, so everything is well and good, and there are no dramas just yet, so that's good. It's happy days. Classes have just started to, yeah, so that's very exciting. And I'm sort of just getting back into the groove of things, getting back into the mode of study.
00:04:33
Speaker
But yeah, overall it's actually been pretty good, pretty smooth transition I would say. I haven't felt homesick yet and if I do I will keep you guys updated and I'll tell you because I think being vulnerable and open is something that is super important and obviously to a certain extent. But I do think that right now I do not feel homesick which is very, very good.
Bright Futures Child Aid and Development Overview
00:04:53
Speaker
Yes, so let's talk a little bit more about the Bright Futures Child Aid and Development Organization.
00:04:58
Speaker
Alright, so Bright Futures Child Aid and Development Fund Australia is essentially an Australian based aid and development agency. It provides education and development opportunities for children in poverty. So it currently operates in four main countries which is India, Pakistan, Kenya and Uganda. And Bright Futures works with its overseas development partners
00:05:21
Speaker
in providing a wide range of programs that are relevant to each of those four countries I just mentioned, their local needs. And these programs can include things like schooling and health clinics, clean water projects, vocational training, self-help groups, and so, so much more.
00:05:38
Speaker
And it's amazing because I do know personally someone who works for Bright Futures Australia and what they actually travel to these countries to make sure that the money that they are putting in is actually going to help the communities and making sure that the organization, making sure the base of the money is going where it's supposed to go, which I think for me is very important.
00:06:02
Speaker
Because obviously, when I'm giving to a charity or an organization, I want to make sure and be able to see the physical changes over time. Of course, it can't just happen overnight, but see the physical changes that the money and donations can make an impact and a difference on these communities, the women, the children, the families. So I would highly recommend the merch store is opening up tomorrow.
00:06:24
Speaker
on the first of March, which is very, very exciting. And once this merch store is live, you are able to go on and purchase, there will be a opening store sale. So you are able to get 20% off with a certain discount code and that code will be available by going to the Instagram.
00:06:43
Speaker
And if you go follow all things education 21, that's the tag at all things education 21. If you go follow on Instagram, I will send you the code that gets you 20% off all merchandise. There will also be giveaways that we run on the Instagram and also giveaways that will be the same thing on the podcast as well. But I will definitely be mentioning on the podcast first because I think that you podcast listeners will get like
00:07:09
Speaker
slightly a bit more of priority in knowing information because you're listening to the information and it's not just quick as an easy biteable picture that you can just consume in a second you know so I appreciate you listening to the podcast and to reward you in that we are going to be hosting a giveaway of some of the merch and it'll be a merchandise pack and also
00:07:27
Speaker
The other thing that is very exciting is there is going to be other really fun giveaways and discount codes and sales throughout the year which will be affiliated with certain I guess major points in history that was related to education. So definitely stay tuned for that and again 100% of profits are going to be given and donated to the Bright Futures Child Aid and Development Agency
00:07:53
Speaker
So I highly encourage you to go check out that merch store when it is online I will be posting all about it on the Instagram So definitely go check that out and again if you want 20% off Please go follow in the Instagram and send me a DM and I will send you the particular code that will get you 20% off
Merch Store Launch Details
00:08:11
Speaker
And the website will be live tomorrow. So go ahead and do that tomorrow and get keen, get shopping, get excited. And there are also some stories on the website as well. There are stories of individuals, real life stories, that of individuals from those four main countries that I was mentioning earlier.
00:08:30
Speaker
and it gives the background, the story of the situation that particular children have been in, particular women, particular families have been in, and how Bright Futures has helped them or what's continued to be needed to ensure that their future is secure and they have a future. So it's very exciting and I'm honored to be working with Bright Futures Child Aid and Development Agency and I hope you guys are excited as I am.
00:08:55
Speaker
Okay, so the next segment that I'm very excited to talk about is essentially every single week from now on, starting as of last week, I'm inserting a review of the week. So someone sends in a review, just an audio message of what they think, what they like about the podcast, any criticism they have or what they've enjoyed their favorite episode, et cetera, et cetera. And I will insert it into every single episode.
00:09:19
Speaker
If you are excited and want to be featured on the podcast and have your voice heard and share your opinion about what you like or don't like about the All Things Education podcast, I highly encourage you to send an audio message to hello at allthingseducation21.com. That is hello at all things education 21 as in the numbers 2 and 1.
00:09:45
Speaker
And if you just record yourself on an audio file and send it through I'm able to pop it in You do not have to insert your name if you don't want to if you want some more privacy in sharing your review That I am very excited to share this week's review with you guys now
00:10:00
Speaker

Charlotte's Lifestyle and Advocacy Journey
00:10:28
Speaker
Alright let's talk about the podcast guest for today's episode. So we have the wonderful and lovely Charlotte Emily Price. So Charlotte Emily Price is a 22 year old London based content creator. She essentially shares everything that is related to lifestyle and body acceptance
00:10:49
Speaker
self-love, positive body image, travel, get ready with me's and so much more. She's honestly an inspiration and it's really cool just chatting with her and I always love watching her Instagram and get her get ready with me. So like I said, they're amazing. They're so much fun to watch. She's very entertaining and she just really goes to show that you can
00:11:09
Speaker
really live the life you want if you put your mind to it and it's great to see how successful she is. I also love that she does talk about body image and self-love and of course whilst she talks about this on her instagram as well she speaks about a lot of other things so I would highly recommend talking sorry go checking her out and today's episode covers a lot of the self-love positive body image how to love yourself if you're struggling if you're going through puberty we speak about
00:11:37
Speaker
female problems as well and the best sort of ways to Concentrate and focus on yourself like and putting yourself first in not quite not in a toxic selfish way But putting yourself first in order to make your mental health better So I'm very excited to share this episode with you guys today and let's just jump right into it Hey Charlotte, welcome to the old things education podcast. How are you?
00:12:04
Speaker
Thank you for having me. Um, I am doing really well. Thank you. How are you? Good. Yes. I'm, I'm super stoked for this episode. So I am very, very well. Um, yeah, I know we're going to have a good chat today. Um, I would love to be talking just about self-love and body image and all those things. Um, so, I mean, for those who haven't heard of you before, let's just jump right in. And would you like just to explain to listeners who you are and what you do?
00:12:30
Speaker
So I'm Charlotte Price. I go, I guess, as Charlotte Emily Price on social media. We talk a lot about self-love, mental health, and sort of my journey of wellbeing online. I also run my own podcast, It's Your Life, where I share other people's stories. And yeah, give them sort of light and hopefully help other people reduce their struggles. But yeah, that's a little bit more about me. I'm mainly on Instagram.
00:12:53
Speaker
I like sharing me dancing and having a good time and making other people feel good in themselves, basically. Yes, 100%. Oh, I feel so good when I watch the videos. I'm like, yes, girl. Yeah, I know, super inspirational. I was going to ask, what inspired you to talk about body image and self-love on the podcast and Instagram and stuff?
00:13:13
Speaker
So I think I used to dance quite a lot. And I think that probably played a massive role in my body image issues. And even though nothing directly happened to me, young, young, I think that's what maybe made me spiral into my teenage life. And then obviously my body changed as I was growing, as everyone's body does, but no one talks about it. So everyone starts comparing themselves to old photos or
00:13:40
Speaker
comments from older people in your life as well, even though they don't mean it because they've also been pushed down this toxic sort of culture where we just fixate on our bodies and don't sort of praise ourselves on other things and just make our whole lives about our bodies. So yeah, I think I just suffered so much as a kid and as a teenager that I was at
00:14:08
Speaker
Yeah, I was like, screw this. I don't want to focus any more of my time on feeling like this. So yeah, I just sort of.
00:14:18
Speaker
wanted to make other people feel good. I think maybe having younger siblings and family members in my life, seeing them go through those struggles, I was like, oh my God, you have nothing to worry about. I don't want you to be worried and focus on these things. So I think that kind of inspired me as well.
00:14:34
Speaker
I was going to say I'm the eldest. So it was, I'm kind of like the guinea pig in the family in so many ways because everything's happening to me first. Yeah. Yeah. Um, and I can totally relate because obviously like, I think that is so much pressure to not like, I'm going to say this lightly, but you know, be skinny, like that skinny girl kind of vibe. And I totally, um, like throughout high school, that's all I wanted to be. I just wanted to be the skinny girl. Like all my friends and I'm like, why is my body just not the same as everyone else's?
00:15:06
Speaker
But yeah, it's so interesting when you finally just click in and you're like, you know what, actually I just love myself and my body and I love who I am. Yeah.
00:15:17
Speaker
I was gonna say. The sort of moment I decided to start sharing it was, I went, it sounds so cliche but I was on holiday in Bali and for the first time ever I was in a bikini and I didn't care. Like I wasn't like sat there like looking around other people and it just sort of came randomly. I think I just had told myself why am I stressed so much about how I look? Like there's so much more to me than
00:15:43
Speaker
the outside appearance. So why am I just worried to be me? So yeah, that's sort of what spiralled the movement, I guess, of me sharing it. Because I was like, this feeling's incredible. I want other people to be able to wear whatever they want and not stress about silly things like what their body's doing and how it's moving.
00:16:08
Speaker
Yeah. And I mean, how can people get to that feeling that you feel? Because I'm still not there. You know, I still have those days where I just feel really, yeah, gross. Yeah. Yeah. Um, I a hundred percent do as well. And I think that's the key to remember that you're going to have good days and bad days. I don't think it's like a smooth sailing journey and there's like.
00:16:29
Speaker
an end destination because I'll go back in a couple of days, something might trigger me, or I just might have a bad day and then focus everything on my weight and my body image. So I think, yeah, there are a few things maybe that I
Handling Negativity on Social Media
00:16:45
Speaker
would do to maybe get more in tune with my body. I always remember that my favourite quote for, I guess, body positivity is, treat yourself how you would treat other people or talk to yourself how you would talk to other people because I would never call out my mum and be like, your mum, you look a bit fat today, or you've got a spot on your face, or your rolls are
00:17:09
Speaker
hanging out. You just would never say it to anyone else you loved. So why are you saying it to yourself? You're supposed to back yourself at the end of the day and be your own biggest cheerleader. So I just started thinking, why am I treating other people with so much respect and I'm being so horrible to myself? That's such a strange thing to do. I know. Oh, I love that. I really love that so much. Yeah, it's so interesting because I mean, I still haven't shared on the podcast
00:17:38
Speaker
the whole talk about self-love and body image. And obviously that's why we're chatting about it today. But I mean, for the people, I mean, I definitely, I've seen a lot on your Instagram, people just say the rudest worst comments and it is revolting. If people say comments like that to a listener, um, how can you, or how do you deal with that?
00:18:01
Speaker
So I'm still like navigating this I think because I do share like raw moments online and I think that's why I become so vulnerable and sensitive to them because I'm like I'm sharing like a private moment almost and I'm allowing people to attack me. So I think
00:18:22
Speaker
I think sometimes having a little cry helps. I'm not going to lie, just letting out the emotions and not being too hard on myself because it's not nice things people say. And then I think how I cope with it, I actually spoke to my therapist about this and there was actually a little acronym that she made and I can't remember off the top of my head.
00:18:41
Speaker
But it's basically acknowledging that the person who sent that message is going through a really dark time, that they felt the need to project, project what they're going through onto you. So it's maybe because they've gone through their own body image issue, someone in their life is criticising their body and their physique.
00:18:57
Speaker
that they're feeling the need to say, oh, you're fat, you need to lose weight, et cetera, et cetera. You're promoting obesity is when I get a lot. And I'm not, I'm just existing in my body and I'm not, sometimes I'm, sometimes I'm not even posting self-love and body positivity because I'm more than just those things as well. And I just want to share me getting dressed or
00:19:19
Speaker
putting a cool outfit together without always focusing on my body. Because like I said, it's not like everything about me doesn't focus around it. So yeah, I think that's what I'd suggest is just sort of maybe reflecting a bit more and thinking why has this person sent it? They could just be a complete nasty person, but usually that nastiness comes from a place of negativity in their lives, which is sad really.
00:19:43
Speaker
Yeah, I know. I was going to say, you have the coolest outfits. Every time I see them, I'm like, girl, yes. Thank you. It's so cool. Yeah. There's something you said just before, and particularly because the audience is about 18 to 24 years old. That's majority of the listeners. Of course, there are people older and younger than that. But I guess that the majority of listeners, they're kind of at the stage where
00:20:10
Speaker
their body has kind of finished puberty. Um, and potentially they, they're kind of like, Oh, this is, this is the body that I'm stuck with in a way, air quotations. Um, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um, how, because I'm kind of just thinking from my perspective as well, how will they be able to, like, how can they rewire their brain in a way just to love themselves? You know, like if they're so stuck on that mentality of,
00:20:37
Speaker
you know, being like the perfect girl which has this kind of body. How can they kind of re-shift their thinking?
00:20:44
Speaker
Yeah, I think initially to remember that there is literally such still bad representation and body inclusion online.
Rewiring Thoughts with Positive Affirmations
00:20:53
Speaker
So just always remember that your body type isn't abnormal or nothing to worry about just because you haven't seen it in the media. It's the media's fault for pushing that sort of like narrative to be the slimmest possible.
00:21:08
Speaker
So yeah, just remembering that your body isn't represented and it's really rubbish. And then I would say, I can't remember, one of my friends said this to me a few weeks ago, and she said that your brain wants to prove yourself right. So if you're going, oh, my
00:21:28
Speaker
my makeup looks really funny today. And then you see yourself in the mirror, you're like, yep, I'm right. My makeup looks awful. Whereas if you start being delusional and pretending like, Oh my God, I actually look really cool in this outfit. Like my body looks really sick in this. And then you look in the, in the mirror, you're like, yeah, I'm right. So your brain always wants to prove itself, right? If you start being delusional and pretending that you love yourself and you like parts of yourself, like it almost
00:21:54
Speaker
Yeah, it almost like brings that positivity into your life, even if you don't believe it at first. If you keep doing that, it sort of, you get into the habit and it's, yeah, it's a bit of a slow one, but, and it's, you seem a bit silly at first, but that's something that I would really recommend.
00:22:10
Speaker
Yeah. And just bouncing off that as well. Like looking yourself in the mirror and saying those affirmations. And it's something, it took me such a long time to be able to look in the mirror and say, you know, I love myself and my hair looks really good today and all of those things. But I do think that those positive self affirmations are so important.
00:22:32
Speaker
Just like you said to, you know, kind of trick your brain into thinking that you are right. Um, yeah, I'd love just to jump and talk about your Instagram for a second. Um, just shifting gears a little, um, cause I'm very fascinated about that as well. Um, you said that you started, you were in Bali and then you just felt really good. Is that what you were saying? Yeah. Um, and is, was that the moment that you wanted to share it with the world by through Instagram or through the podcast? Like sort of, how did they all start up?
00:22:59
Speaker
Yeah. So I before was just sharing like student life. I was at university at the time and before then I was, I just spoke about like beauty fashion. And then as I went to uni, just student life, just day-to-day stuff, productivity, making other people, yeah, not procrastinate, I guess, and put on one of my videos and then also work alongside me on YouTube. And then I went to Bali and that was sort of when I had an epiphany, I think about
00:23:26
Speaker
Oh, I actually feel amazing for once. I want to keep this feeling. What can I do to better myself?
00:23:32
Speaker
and keep this sort of like good flow with my body image because I'd never had it before. And then yeah, I had, I think I got my boyfriend to take some photos of me and I was like, I don't hate them. Like my stomach's rolling over and I don't hate them. Like this is such a weird feeling. I used to obviously be caught up in the whole body editing, photo editing, and that's something I'm a massive advocate.
00:23:56
Speaker
to stop now, like no filters and everyone posting more natural raw content because I think that is super damaging. But yeah, I think that was the moment when I was like, right, I want to sort of see if I can bring this onto my channel. I was super scared. I was nervous. I didn't know how it was going to go down, but everyone loved it. And from that point onwards, it sort of, yeah, spiralled and went, oh.
00:24:22
Speaker
Amazingly. And the podcast, how did that kind of form?
00:24:33
Speaker
because short-form content has become a lot more popular in the past couple of years with TikTok and Instagram, I guess, is copying it with the Reels and YouTube Shorts. YouTube was usually my outlet for chatting and being super open and that has definitely declined in the past couple of years, but podcasting seems to be something that is growing. Skyrocketing. Yeah, skyrocketing.
00:24:59
Speaker
And I was like, right, I want an outlet. I used to have a podcast with some of my girlfriends, but it was so difficult to organize because there were so many of us and we all had different lives. So I was like, right, I want to do something on my own where I talk to a different guest every episode and share their stories. And that's sort of a little bit different because I don't always just talk about self-love and mental health. But a lot of my guests do talk about that because
00:25:20
Speaker
I just want to hear their perspectives, their stories and how they got into it and their sort of tips and advice. And yeah, it's been amazing. I lost my granddad in December 2021 and that's sort of what
00:25:35
Speaker
maybe want to also talk about that and create like a little sub series on my podcast where we discuss grief and different people's stories of grief and how sort of proving that there is not a linear journey with grief as well as the body positivity stuff because many people react differently to it. And yeah, I just sort of wanted to push that as well and make other people feel less alone. That's literally the main reason I just wanted to create a space where
00:25:58
Speaker
people can come and listen and be like, oh, that's how I felt. Like I don't feel lonely anymore in my own head. Yeah. And would you recommend to people like who do kind of feel maybe insecure or just, or want to start up something, would you recommend starting a podcast or an Instagram? I mean, I definitely would, but would you?
00:26:21
Speaker
Yeah, I think podcast is a lot of work to go into straight away. So maybe take it slow if you have no other social media presence, maybe Instagram is great. But also podcast is wonderful because you don't have to have photo imagery. And if you want to sort of like be a bit more laid back and just talk and sort of share your discussions, then it's a little bit easier, I think.
00:26:45
Speaker
Um, but yeah, I think don't hold yourself back. Like so many people are doing social media now, like no one's going to judge you. And if they do, then you don't need them in your lives. Yeah. And you know, yeah, literally. And honestly, I find that, um, more often than not, you'll get a positive response from people.
Advice on Sharing Stories and Insights
00:27:00
Speaker
Um, and I guess like my Instagram, your Instagram, both podcasts are just great examples of that. Even random thing today, actually, um, I was at work and I kind of.
00:27:09
Speaker
I just happened to mention that I had a podcast and they all went, wait, what, what, what, hang on, rewind. And it was just a great little exposure moment and you don't realize how true people who value you as a person really appreciate what you give them.
00:27:24
Speaker
Yeah, for sure. I think, I think we almost hide what we do to the people we love the most, a fear of rejection, but they're the people who will support you. And if, like I said, if they don't, then you really need to cut them out. Yeah, literally. Um, yeah, actually speaking of which, fairly, um, if they body shame you, which is terribly unfortunate, but if they do,
00:27:49
Speaker
How do you deal with that? I mean, have you experienced that? If you're comfortable in sharing or, you know, how would you deal with that? I think I haven't physically been like verbally been told like your fight, you need to lose weight. But I guess there have been.
00:28:06
Speaker
things that maybe have come about like I remember one time my nan bought me like a toning belt that you put around your stomach and stuff and I think she thought I was she was being helpful because I was into fitness at the time like in a toxic way like I was just always doing fitness
00:28:22
Speaker
And I think she thought she was being helpful, but it's because also she's been lured into the diet culture trap as well. And same with my mom, like I went to Slimming World with my mom at some points or diets with my mom. And if I personally was a mom now in this day and age, I would speak to them about I think communication is key and speaking through like, oh, why do you want to do this? Like rather than I think just sort of
00:28:50
Speaker
scooping me up and just taking me to Slimming World rather be like why do you want to get diet like what's making you feel this way and maybe chat it out and being like oh you don't need to do this because of this like you know yeah um and what are your thoughts on like toxic body image influences or just toxic body image culture in general
Criticism of Toxic Body Image Culture
00:29:13
Speaker
I think it needs to die. I think it's going in the right direction. I think it's going in the right direction. Like obviously fitness influences are great. Like there are some really amazing accounts that promote a healthy fitness lifestyle. And if you do are into fitness, I'm not saying you're toxic, but there are obviously accounts that only post really toxic things to do with your body, only in a certain amount of sugar and stuff. And like, obviously,
00:29:41
Speaker
sometimes it's great and amazing but I think people can get caught up and I think to unfollow those accounts that are making you feel bad about yourself that's that's what I would say to you if you're consuming a lot of media sometimes it can be unhelped because random adverts can pop up at different points or whatever app you're on but
00:29:59
Speaker
you can help yourself as much as you can by unfollowing those accounts that make you feel awful. And if there's someone who's close to you, mute them. If you'd feel too uncomfortable unfollowing, mute or restrict their account so that you're not seeing what they're posting, you know? Yeah. And even just adding to what you were saying, I know that on my personal Instagram account, in summertime, I really just try not to check
00:30:21
Speaker
Instagram at all because there's all of the girls that are posting, girls and guys with their bodies and the beach and bikinis and everything and it obviously makes me, I guess, not FOMO quite, but just I guess I want what they have in a way because I guess self-love and body image is definitely a journey.
00:30:43
Speaker
Yeah, so I definitely agree with what you're saying, for sure. Sometimes I do catch myself comparing it from having a bad day, but I have more good days than bad, which is great. I noticed my progress one time when I was just scrolling down my feed.
00:31:04
Speaker
Most of my feed is literally curvy, similar sized bodies to me. But obviously there are people I'm friends with that have slimmer framed, more accepted body types. And I'm just like, Oh, they look cool. Scroll on like literally nothing to do with their body. I'm just like, Oh, that looks cool. Like, and that, that's when I sort of knew, wow, this is progression because I used to be like, I need to look like this. I want a slim body frame, but I've accepted my body would never look like that because I have hips, I have boobs, I have a bomb. Like I,
00:31:32
Speaker
I'm never going to look like that so there's no point in stressing about it. Yeah, can't change it. It is what it is. Yeah, I know. What's your thoughts on diets? Because you mentioned diets before and I know, I mean personally, I have tried everything and failed in like a week.
00:31:52
Speaker
I can't do it. I don't have the strict discipline of it all. And also money as well. But yeah, what are your thoughts on dieting? And if you had to choose a diet, I mean, depending on your view, but if you had to choose one, which one would you choose and why? Okay. Do you have Slimming World, where you are? No. So I'm in Sydney, we're about to move to Sydney in Australia. But I'm, actually, what is Slimming World?
00:32:20
Speaker
Yeah, I realized I said it and I was like, you literally might not know what I'm talking about. So it's basically a like club where you basically it, what's the word? Sort of like not manipulates, but essentially manipulates women into going and
00:32:45
Speaker
Everything that's to do with calories turns into these things called sins. So it's like you're sinning every time you eat them, every time you eat like a chocolate bar and you can eat whole bananas, but not mashed up bananas. Like none of it makes sense. And just all these women do it growing up.
00:33:03
Speaker
And it's like a cult of people that have been made to feel like they're not good enough. And if you like weigh in, you have like a goal of what weight you want to become. And if you reach it, then you don't pay for a week. And then you go back to paying week, let you pay for someone to call you fat.
00:33:20
Speaker
You pay for someone to call you fat and then you leave and you're just like, okay, I'll stop eating some more. It doesn't make any sense to me now, but like so many people get caught up in this sort of world and obviously a healthy lifestyle is good. I just say eating a balanced diet, like a normal balanced diet, cooking meals at home, and then maybe having like one or two meals out a week if you want to, like that's a bit different. That's like takeaway or whatever. Like, I don't know. I, I'm way less restrictive on myself now. Um,
00:33:50
Speaker
But yeah, as long as you're moving your body and eating good foods and making sure you're getting the vitamins that you need and I don't know, I just don't follow a diet and I don't think I ever want to really.
00:34:01
Speaker
I completely agree. I feel like for me, I kind of just in my head sort of go, okay, I've had a couple sweets today, so I'll just kind of be a bit mindful about what I'm eating tomorrow maybe, but I'm not too stressed ever about it because your body's your body and it's going to gain weight and lose weight, and especially women with hormonal cycles and everything, and just everything's always going to gain and lose.
00:34:24
Speaker
Yeah, I think that's the lack of education around the menstrual cycle because I didn't even know until I started looking at myself that
00:34:34
Speaker
my body and my weight will fluctuate depending on whether I'm on my period or not like that's crazy to me like how did I not get taught that and I'm every month feeling like really bloated and gross and heavy and it's like well that's going to happen every month so I just need to accept it and work on accepting that. And yeah I know lack of education around it I do find quite fascinating I know at school
00:34:59
Speaker
Like in, I guess in biology sometimes we've got a little bit of information about it, but there was not a proper discussion and we kind of just talk about it. I went to an old girl's school in high school. Um, so it was all we kind of ever talked about was, you know, bodies and comparing ourselves and then boys and then looks and then like things like that, you know, it was just, I would say it was quite a toxic environment in the sense that it was always just focused on the things about the physical appearance rather than looking at yourself and internally working on the self love and everything like that. But, um, yeah.
00:35:30
Speaker
Yeah, I can imagine being at an all-girls school would sort of maybe make you compete a little bit more with the other girl, would it? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think as well because you'd have, you know, you're literally like, you know, I guess American generic stereotypes. You had, you know, those really pretty girls, but they're like the dumb blondes in a way. And then you'd have them.
00:35:51
Speaker
Um, you know, athletic people, then you have the smart people and it was just those concert serotypes you had to fit into one of three boxes. And if you didn't, then you're just a misfit, which was just the worst feeling to have. Yeah. Oh, I feel like I got that in dance, but because I only did that a couple of times a week, it didn't really.
00:36:11
Speaker
Obviously it was bad, but you having to go there every day and be around a lot of women when they can be so bitchy. I know, literally. And you're just like, please stop talking. But yeah, I know. To a positive shift now, let's talk about what are some amazing things that you have learned about yourself in your own self-love journey and what are the things you've come to really admire about yourself?
Discovering Self-Worth Beyond Appearance
00:36:41
Speaker
I think reiterating what I said earlier, like my body is the least interesting thing about me. I feel like that is something that I...
00:36:51
Speaker
I've definitely sort of coined now as like a term that I use in my life. Like I've realized since taking stripping that away, like all that focus on my body, I'm like, wow, I'm like really resilient. I can be patient if I need to be. I'm very hardworking and driven and passionate about things. Like I sort of remembered all of the amazing qualities about my personality because I'm not focusing on my body. So I think that's probably one of the things that sticks with me the most about like just learning to love like my
00:37:20
Speaker
personality traits because they're actually way more important than how I look on the outside. Yeah, I think that's probably what I would say, just finding my feet with who I really am and it's helped me progress into adulthood because I'm not just looking at how I weigh and using all my time to make myself thinner. Yeah, you were talking before about doing a lot of fitness and stuff like that.
00:37:50
Speaker
Do you want to talk a bit more about that part of that journey? Yeah, so I think I got sort of caught up in it again with the whole dance culture. Every girl is trying to make themselves as slim as possible. I mean, when I was doing ballet, it was sort of made very clear to me that I would never be able to become like a ballerina or a dancer that does ballet because of my body type, because they're all very slim framed and I had hips from
00:38:19
Speaker
probably like 11, 12. I started my period super young at nine, so.
00:38:24
Speaker
I sort of grew before everyone else. And I think that probably almost interfered with that journey as well and made me feel like different to everyone else. When actually it was just, I just needed a voice to say, oh, you're just growing your body. You're going through puberty. I think we even learned about puberty too late. So I was thinking in my head that I was this, this big like woman and even boy, like boys would comment on my, my height, my way.
00:38:52
Speaker
at school and I think it was just because I hadn't had the education around it and what was going through my body that I started like fixing so much of my attention on it and that's what took a toll and then it was just fitness, fitness, fitness, slimming world. I made my mum, when my mum would make packed lunches I was like, can I not have sandwiches? I want just salad, salad only. I would be like almost fainting because I had not, not fueled my body enough. So yeah, it just, it just got really bad and
00:39:21
Speaker
Yeah, food is fuel. You need food to live and survive and have energy throughout the day. So please don't stop yourself from eating. I know. It's the worst thing. I knew a couple of people who would skip on meals and I noticed it and a couple of people noticed it and we kind of jumped on them straight away and we're like, hey, what are you doing? Stop. Eat food in the night. Yeah. And again, toxic girls school.
00:39:46
Speaker
It wasn't toxic in terms of the environment, but the actual school was good. Yeah, exactly. What would you say would be your big top three tips in a way? We have spoken about a lot, but your big top three tips for students who struggle with self-worth, which is the combination of everything we're speaking about today and expanding on how to change your mindset, as we were talking about before.
00:40:16
Speaker
So I think the top one, if you are, I'm sure a lot of people probably listening consume a lot of social media.
Curating Positive Social Media Feeds
00:40:24
Speaker
So sort of bringing back that point and saying that you have that power to make your own feed. So follow those accounts that have a similar body type to you, if you're struggling with your body image, follow those accounts that talk about mental health. If you're struggling with your mental health, like
00:40:40
Speaker
I went through a really bad phase of depression in my second year of university and finding other accounts that spoke openly about mental health made me feel like I wasn't crazy and that I was less alone. It was just so nice to hear people talking about it and it encouraged me to talk about it as well.
00:40:56
Speaker
So yeah, for me, I think making sure that your social media is going to bring positivity in your life, like it's on your phone and you click on it every day, you scroll and you have that power to at least change who you're consuming. So that's where I would start. I'm following people that make you feel rubbish, following more people that make you feel amazing.
00:41:17
Speaker
Like yours, your account. No, for sure. Truly, truly. Yeah. What else? I have actually wrote a couple of notes for them. Oh, cool.
00:41:35
Speaker
Secondly, I would say doing something every day that reminds you how amazing you are or your body is. I have other body self-love creator friends that like to focus on things about their body that they do like.
00:41:54
Speaker
But I just think I need to take all the attention away from my body. So I write things every day that I'm grateful. I'm grateful that I'm an empathetic person because it means I can connect with people on a deeper level. And I like having deep conversations, you know, whereas I used to change that and think I was too sensitive. But no, I like that I'm a caring and empathetic person because
00:42:16
Speaker
It makes me, yeah. Yeah. Do you know what I mean? I get exactly what you mean. Yeah. Yeah. And then I do, I do think that my final tip
00:42:31
Speaker
is that talk to yourself like someone you love. I'm sorry to repeat it, but I do think that's what hit the nail on the head. It's what hit the nail on the head for me. Like, why am I talking so negatively to myself? I would never do that to someone else. I speak positively about my friends and my family and my loved ones. So I should do that to myself because my body is my home and it's the only thing that's going to be with me until
00:42:54
Speaker
morbid, but till the end of my life. So I need to start actually appreciating it, loving it, obviously nourishing it with good food, moving my body, like giving it all the love and attention that I give other people. So yeah. Yeah. No, those are really great tips. And I love, I still love how you reiterated it, so I can't speak
00:43:15
Speaker
reiterated them because it just goes to show how much you value those things. Yeah. Gratitude journals. What do we think of them?
Creating a Self-Love Journal
00:43:24
Speaker
So I actually created my own self-love journal. It's currently in the process of being re-platformed and stuff, but I created my own one because I never found one that either worked for me or had everything that I would love to have in it. So it sort of like walks you through. I think sometimes gratitude can be a bit
00:43:47
Speaker
maybe wishy washy, like you're not really sure how to go about it, but I, I love gratitude and practicing that. So I've always been into those, but I can understand why people be like, why would you want to do that? I don't really get it, which is why I created my own one. And it has like sections in it, like worry section. It has like a bit at the beginning that talks about like relationships, um, going through difficult times of your body image and mental health. Like it has like a whole section at the front for that, but
00:44:14
Speaker
It walks through like worry, self-love, gratitude.
00:44:17
Speaker
things are stressing you out. It also has like an organizational sheet. So I think finding a self-love journal or a gratitude journal that works for you and you think would help you is key because I think a lot of people just buy loads of like self-help books and gratitude journals in the hopes that it can help make them a better person. And I think I was that person. But yeah, I think maybe look through and find something that you think will benefit you, your life and your problems.
00:44:47
Speaker
And how did you go about making the Gratitude Journal? Just for people who might be interested in actually just making their own instead of, you know, trying to find like you said.
00:44:56
Speaker
Yeah. So I actually was really fortunate that, um, I got approached by HP, the like printing company, but I am looking to make my own like second version of it all on my own. So I'm currently navigating this. I think just, I think putting everything to paper of what you want to achieve. I think from the whole thing, I think that is kind of like a bold statement to make, but something you should start from. Like, what do I want to achieve by making this? Um,
00:45:25
Speaker
And then affordability is something that I was always so cautious of because I grew up from a working class background and I just wanted it to be as cheap as physically possible, but also create a good quality product, which is obviously very hard. And I found that out myself. I was like, please can we go lower? I just want everyone to be able to pay for this. Which I think I will be able to, now that it's all in my own hands, I'll be able to make it even cheaper.
00:45:52
Speaker
Yeah, I think affordability, accessibility and a big main aim before you start like delving into what the contents are is probably like your main, should be your main focus when you're starting it out. Yeah. Oh, that's so good. And are we allowed to have an estimate of maybe, maybe when it would be ready or you have no idea. Well, I'm hoping as soon as possible, I would love to have it the second version out this year. Um,
00:46:19
Speaker
because my one before took about six months to make, which I think is a lot quicker because I had like a big team involved. But then I also now know the sort of idea, whereas I sort of was a bit more clueless. So I'm hoping maybe a similar time, six to eight months maybe, fingers crossed. That's so cool. Yeah, I was just going to say, when it's released, send me a message and we can promote it for you because I just think that's so great. Amazing. Yeah, so many of the audience and listeners,
00:46:47
Speaker
I mean, personally, I know I'm trying to find a really great gratitude journal at the moment. And as of yet, I have been unsuccessful, but the one that you have just sounds amazing. So yeah, we'll link. Is the first version available now, currently?
00:47:03
Speaker
Yeah, it is. It should be at www.selflovejournal.co.uk, but they've currently changed platforms. So it might not be available as you're listening to this. They're currently in the process of migrating it over. But yeah, I just, if anyone, if anyone has any feedback as well on what they would look for in a journal, like I'd love to hear that too, because I think it's just important to get what, like listen to people, like what do people want when you're creating something?
00:47:32
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. No, for sure. Um, before we do the last question, I'll just get you to, um, share your socials and how people can connect with you. And then we'll jump on to the final question. Yeah. So if you want to see more of me, I am over at Charlotte Emily price on Instagram. So I'm on Tik TOK Charlotte Emily on YouTube and it's your life, the podcast for my podcast.
00:47:56
Speaker
Amazing. Final question. I'm trying to get into the habit of asking everyone this. All the amazing guest stars that we got. What is your final sort of nugget of advice that you could give to the listeners for today? That could be just a repetition of what you said before or something new? Yeah, you can have a think. All good. No seriously, take your time because it's, yeah. No, I've got this.
00:48:22
Speaker
I don't know if this is a bit, I don't know. I don't know what I'm trying to say, right? Let me say it again. No, just say it. Go for it. So I, if I'm ever really stressed or anxious, I like to remember that I'm a tiny little particle on a floating rock.
00:48:38
Speaker
I love that so much. Do you know what I mean? Obviously I'm not trying to invalidate anyone's problems, but sometimes when I over press or I'm over anxious about something, I'm literally walking around a floating rock. Life is crazy. Life is weird. I just need to relax, chill out, and not over worry so much. It sort of puts things into perspective for me, I guess, realizing that I am basically nothing, and it's weirdly a comforting thing for me.
00:49:06
Speaker
Yeah. It's, it's almost like, it's not to, like you said, like not validate what you're feeling or anything like that, but I totally get that. I actually think a similar thing. I kind of, I just imagined, I saw this one video random time in school and, um, it was this, um, sort of stimulate, simulated, um, thing of it puts you on a location somewhere around the world.
00:49:26
Speaker
And it just continues to zoom out for 10 minutes and you just watch the vlog smaller and smaller until you can't even see it. It puts things into perspective. Yeah. Especially if you're worrying, like you're, you're being really anxious over something that is.
00:49:40
Speaker
it is kind of smaller, like not that everyone does, it has, like I say, you can validate your feelings, but yeah, that just helps me. It's super comforting knowing that I'm just like basically nothing. I feel it, yeah, yeah, yeah, no. I love it. Oh wow, thank you, Charlotte. I think we've had a great chat today. Talked about everything and anything under the sun, which is amazing. So thank you so much. Yeah, thank you for having me. Of course, anytime.
