What is The BTE Practice?

To understand "what" the BTE Practice is, I first want to explain "why" I created it. I think this medium provides certain advantages written communication just cannot accurately relay. I stand by the feedback and believe the BTE Practice is life-changing work, if you put the work in for yourself.

The new and improved BTE Practice will begin on September 1.

If you have questions, please send them to bill@btwntheears.com.

Hope to see you and work with you.

Introduction and Context

00:00:00
Speaker
Hello. All righty. So hopefully it's going well. It is July 1st at about 2 15 PM. And I share that with you to say, I'm not here.

The Do Lectures Experience

00:00:15
Speaker
I am in Wales at the time you are.
00:00:19
Speaker
listening to this and going over there for the due lectures and I'm actually giving a talk and that is incredibly humbling um I'm like super grateful I'm totally I was like totally caught off guard um by it but I'm just like really thankful for the opportunity and um so I'm leaving tomorrow
00:00:47
Speaker
leaving tomorrow night and I'll be over there for about a week. So I wanted to stay true to delivering something and adjusting for life. So here we are Monday afternoon recording and it's usually Wednesday morning.
00:01:04
Speaker
But yeah, I just want to say like the do lectures is just an amazing company run by amazing people doing amazing things. And to be part of that delivery of an experience, honestly, in any way.
00:01:23
Speaker
is incredibly humbling and an absolute honor. And I'm very grateful to David and Claire Hyatt and the team they have working at The Do Lectures and Hyatt Jeans. And I'm gonna try to take some pictures to show the amazingness that is there. Because I think last time, I don't know if I took a single picture. I took a couple maybe, but not at the site.
00:01:51
Speaker
And that's not like I'm gonna take those for me to highlight and to document and bring them back and share with Kay But I really want to show even though I know I'm not gonna be able to capture the magic and the essence that is going to be there I Want to show as much as I can Because like it's
00:02:12
Speaker
It's it's an amazing company. They're doing amazing things and I would just say like Check their stuff out.

Livestream Details and Encouragement

00:02:20
Speaker
I believe the lecture is gonna be live stream. So if you're interested in that on Friday at around 4 30 p.m
00:02:30
Speaker
London time. So that's plus five. So that's 16. That's 11 o'clock around 1130 on Friday. Um, so I'll be going. So the due lectures is what their company is, uh, and all of that. So yeah, so check that out, but more like less about me, more about them.
00:02:50
Speaker
spend some time. That's a rabbit hole worth getting sucked into to do lectures. So anyway, that's what I'll be. Um,

Introduction to BT Practice

00:03:00
Speaker
so check it out. I want to talk today about the BT practice and I've had a lot of folks hit me up about what is it? What do you do? When's it starting? Like, can I do it? So I want to use this podcast as, um, maybe the first of a couple. I'm not really sure, uh, but just talk about it.
00:03:19
Speaker
I know like the written word. I love writing but like sometimes it doesn't sometimes it just a lot of times it just doesn't Translate Everything you want to say And especially now with like, you know social media and that best case like email and stuff There's just a lot to say and
00:03:43
Speaker
So I think this is a good place to talk about it and dedicate an entire episode if not more To it and can certainly do some like question and answer stuff too if you guys have them send them over and when I get a bunch I'll you know answer them so the BT practice if you don't know what I'm talking about I have a developed a
00:04:06
Speaker
a training course, calling it a training course. I'm sticking with that because I believe in it. Um, it's not how it started, but I developed a program training course that was kind of birthed out of the question, like, what are we really doing consistently to work on ourselves?
00:04:37
Speaker
And beyond that, not just working on ourselves, but like really giving ourselves not just a consistent effort, but a good chunk of time and a range of experiences and not just like one week or one day or when we feel like it or when we feel good, but like a consistent chunk of time.
00:05:08
Speaker
to work on ourselves, to be at the peaks, to be in the valleys. And part of that came from, part of that comes from my personal work of reading, of learning, of acquiring knowledge,
00:05:34
Speaker
But my issue is I just didn't really, I don't really see a outlet for some of it, you know, best case scenario. And many times you have to wait for something to happen to you. So like, if you're working on your patients, you have to wait for someone to test your patients. And I don't know a lot of times, like, I just don't think that's an effective method for
00:06:02
Speaker
for confirming how you're doing. And it's not like you're going to do it right or wrong or whatever, but just the ability to kind of check in.

The Need for Personal Development Tools

00:06:13
Speaker
You know, there's tons of information out there, tons, tons, tons of information out there, books, videos, podcasts, like you name it.
00:06:24
Speaker
I'm not so sure how inclusive they are. This is definitely not inclusive. You might get something out of it and I hope you do, but you're not included in it. This is me speaking into it. And yes, the context and the framing is like, well, of course you're not expecting to have a back and forth dialogue.
00:06:44
Speaker
But, and people send me podcasts all the time and they're like, Hey man, have you listened to this? I'm like, I can't possibly listen to all the podcasts. Now that's not to say there's not a lot of value out there. There absolutely is, but I just, there's just no possible way I could listen to all of them. And so then it's like, wow, this is really overwhelming. Where do I begin? How do I be? I want to work on myself. Where do I begin? You open up iTunes podcasts, you're going to, I mean, there's a lot there. And then it's like,
00:07:16
Speaker
That's someone else telling you. And it may or may not jive. There may or may not be an ulterior motive there. And that's not to be cynical or whatever, but that's just the reality of it.
00:07:38
Speaker
That's kind of why I created it to provide people an outlet to, to, to take back that element of working on yourself and to look within yourself, to discover elements of yourself and actively work on it. And I serve as a guide. I serve as a guide for you, accountability,
00:08:10
Speaker
maybe nudging a little bit, maybe pushing a little bit, but it's creating a catalyst for you to take and run with. And like, make no mistake about it, you are doing the work on yourself. Not me, not anybody else. It is up to you.

Emotional Fitness vs. Physical Fitness

00:08:30
Speaker
You know, I think the big part of it is like, I want you to come up with some, with, with, with everything.
00:08:39
Speaker
and believe it. And so if you look, if, you know, after one of the weeks or whatever, or period of time, you know, you're saying things that you don't believe. That's going to get like, that's going to get highlighted and eliminated real quick. You know, parrots suck. Be you.
00:09:08
Speaker
And the BTE practice is an opportunity for you to get to know yourself better. Even though you think you know yourself, it's just how, how, how frequently are you continuing to get to know yourself or know yourself better? There's things about Kay and I, we think we know each other really well. Still getting to know, like, you know, and that's cool. Personally, yeah, still getting to know things.
00:09:39
Speaker
Revisit some things. I thought I thought I knew that I guess I don't I didn't think I knew that I guess I do You know, so it's really like a Proactive way to work on ourselves and an inclusive way You know like and we work on our bodies it's no mystery it is no mystery and frankly like if there's it's not for shortage of opportunity to work on our bodies and
00:10:09
Speaker
every possible kind of gym exists. There was a gym I was in the dentist office a couple months ago flipping through whatever dentist office magazines kind of you would find and it was like you know seven innovative
00:10:28
Speaker
boutique fitness studios. I'm like, Oh, that's relevant. Let me, let me pick this up. Holy shit. I think there was one where they lock you in like a, like a meat locker. You know, it's obviously not just like, it's a bigger one, like small studio, like, but like it can't be that big and you do your stuff in there and they're talking about all the, you know, the fairy dust of the hot, the cold and the hot and this and that.
00:10:57
Speaker
And I'm like, really? You're getting locked into an ice chest and doing whatever? Now I, I, do you want to do that if that's a novelty? Like, okay, that's funny. Like, yep. Hey, that's like.
00:11:09
Speaker
But you're like, that's, that's magazine worthy. I mean, I guess it's dentist office magazine, right? But still, what else was there? Goat yoga. I mean, what, what's happening? Um, jail, prison, bootcamp. That's a good one. You get these ex-convicts, ex, you know, folks who were in, who were in jail who basically just like belittle and yell at you. Cause I guess the association is everyone that comes out of jail has like a 12 pack and is shredded.
00:11:41
Speaker
Anyway, let me get back on course here. My point of all that is saying that there are on. There are basically unlimited options available to work on your on yourself physically. What about mentally and emotionally? Yes, you can go see a mental health specialist, psychologist, counselor, etc.
00:12:13
Speaker
What about emotionally? Like how do you work on yourself emotionally? What does that even look like? And
00:12:32
Speaker
I mean, this is sort of a loaded question, but I'm just going to send it. Do you really trust, do you really think it is, it's up to you, like that you can be objective with yourself in doing that, in setting the work and being like, okay, I'm going to develop a training program for myself emotionally. I mean, possibly I'm not saying that there's like a right or wrong answer. I'm just saying like, that is a big undertaking.
00:13:03
Speaker
So we have all this, all these resources to get stronger bodies and whatever kind of bodies we want. And yet there's, we're not, we're not serving ourselves physically, uh, mentally and emotionally. And then with that, like, again, everyone's different and I don't mean to have this be a judgment, but like, if you were to be like, Hey, I'm going to,
00:13:30
Speaker
an emotional fitness specialist.

Making Self-Work Accessible

00:13:34
Speaker
All right. Tell that to your boss or like tell that to somebody. Maybe tell it to your best friend so that it's like a little bit more of a, I don't know, maybe more of a candid and appropriately appropriate response versus like, yeah, hey, I'm doing the same and I'm really working on myself.
00:14:03
Speaker
Um, anyway, but if you were to be like, Hey, I'm going to the gym. It's like, Oh, right on, man. Like, yeah, cool. Getting lean, getting Jack, getting whatever, you know, but not, not, not really the case. So I want to, I want to change that. Hold on.
00:14:28
Speaker
Hi, I'm back. I want to change, uh, I want to change the narrative. I want to burn the script. I want to rewrite how we approach viewing, um, or how we approach working on ourselves. I want to make it, I want to make it, um, easy to do by way of like not no barrier to entry. I want to make it approachable from a price point and I want to make it really fucking valuable.
00:14:57
Speaker
And that's kind of what drives me. So, um, I dug in and, and started this, it was a concept that I had for a long time and probably in January, I guess January. Yeah. Kind of went like the, um, Hey, just build it. They'll come throw it up on the board, see what we're going to do kind of thing. And I would post a workout to do.
00:15:23
Speaker
Pretty simple Which you know should obviously right away be like, okay, that's gonna be hard Simple meaning no advanced skill required No real advanced equipment required. I mean there's at a certain point like equipment does have to come into the play but you know nothing advanced and you know obviously there to like provide guidance and individual coaching people if they needed it and
00:15:52
Speaker
from like a how do I do this standpoint so anyway I would post a workout on Sunday night I'd write a mindset topic so a bit of a bit of content a bit of theory couples like some thoughts
00:16:08
Speaker
And then I would include in that a guided journal exercise where there would be questions or as per like standard, Hey, after your workout, you just write, write whatever it is, uncap the pen, press the paper, go. That's it. If you have some writers block, here's some questions to consider that relate to the mindset topic and the mindset topic and the workout kind of related to each other. Um,
00:16:40
Speaker
And then just, if, if you feel compelled to post and share your thoughts, we'd love to hear it. We had a little group thing going on and sure enough, people did. And what happened was, was, was, I mean, amazing. Really, really cool. It was an inclusive way for us to work on each other, work on ourselves, share it with each other. And I don't know, man, like some of the work going on personally with others, like
00:17:13
Speaker
amazing So the next week post the next one and just kind of did that and so continue doing that for about three months It was always a little I always had the thought in the back of my head like well what if somebody joined on January 1 and they start and they did that workout like burpees and then on February 1st somebody new joined and
00:17:40
Speaker
Like where would they start? Well, I would just be like, yeah, just start on February. Like just start when you join, just pick up. But there was some really good stuff going on the past month of January that realistically, like they probably weren't going to go back. Could they? Yes. But realistically, like that wasn't really happening.
00:18:01
Speaker
And so not by any sort of plan, but just the way things developed, which like that's the beauty of life, each week kind of built on itself a little bit, or maybe not built on itself like staircase, but filled in and complimented, supported other weeks. So things may be from like January 8th,
00:18:29
Speaker
maybe had fuller understanding February 12th. Cause like, here's the thing, all this shit's related. I mean, we're not, we're not creating a new Adam. Like no, there's no new element being discovered and chucked up on the, on the, on the chart periodic table or something. A lot of this stuff is related. Is it all the same? No, but you, yeah, there's a lot going on there. And so maybe we have to hit things from different angles. Think about things differently.
00:19:00
Speaker
to highlight.
00:19:02
Speaker
things within us, to work on things. It's like any coach, let's say any CrossFit coach or fitness coach, right? Visual, verbal, tactile cues, like I can tell you something and you might be like, yeah, I'm shaking your head and be like, got it, I'm gonna do it. Then they try to do it, it's like, no, that was not shaking my head. Let me show you. Here, this is what I wanna say,

Developing the BT Practice Platform

00:19:25
Speaker
I show you. Okay, yep, got it, coach. I show you and I say, okay, now you show me. It's like, no, no, no, no, still not it.
00:19:32
Speaker
Then maybe I go tactile and say like, look here, do you feel that? Do you feel my hand? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Do that. And then you can do it. And awesome. You do it. In theory, it works out perfectly in execution. Not so much. Point is a lot of this stuff that we're uncovering, a lot of the stuff that we're working on ourselves, like it, it might mean you need a variety of different things to, to help uncover.
00:20:01
Speaker
some, some learning points and that's okay. Like the first time, first time to light bulb moment is a, I dunno, I think that's a foolish expectation. It doesn't account for life. It doesn't account for so much about the complexity and how complicated we are. So we kept going and at 12 weeks I shut it down.
00:20:33
Speaker
Things were kind of going smooth. People were joining. We had a night with kind of a big crew. But I didn't think it was serving people right. So I shut it down and said, I need to work on this. I need to go back into the lab and do some things and make some upgrades. So I did. And it was kind of like I felt like I let some people down doing that.
00:21:03
Speaker
But hey, I know it's the right thing to do for the user, for you. And so for the past few months, I've been working hard at reworking it. And a big part of that is how it's delivered.
00:21:21
Speaker
So I built an app. Well, here's the deal. We're not doing the app app apps not happening because the app I don't think would make your life better. I think it would be another app, but it wouldn't solve any real problem. And the problem was like, I, the delivery of information and the inclusion of the information, um, with others was something I wanted to make better. So.
00:21:50
Speaker
It's been an interesting technology lesson or learning experience for me. Built an app and just recently built another website.
00:22:04
Speaker
which is going to be more along the lines of like an online course type. So think like each week there's going to be like a lesson plan. There's going to be video in there. There's going to be potential for video in there rather. Um, there's, there's this own like community board. No, it's not Facebook. Don't worry about it. But like, there's this community section that's really good. Um, there's just way, way, way more options to, to, to make it a better experience.
00:22:34
Speaker
So trying to figure that out has been like for me, who's not a tech guy. That's been, that's been good for, for the old learning, learning new things. Um, so it's going to be, I said it's going to be 12 weeks. It's actually going to be 14 weeks.
00:22:55
Speaker
And there's going to be a couple of break weeks in there at, at, at specific points. Nothing about, I'll tell you this right now. Nothing about the practice is random. It says specific points for specific reasons. Um, with the ultimate thing being like, do I think it would be a better thing for your experience? If yes, do it. Doesn't matter what it costs. Doesn't matter what it, how much time it takes, like do it.
00:23:21
Speaker
That's kind of been my approach with the practice and so with the week. So anyway, it kicks it to 14 weeks. So each week there's going to be that workout, the mindset element, a little like learning point, teaching point, or ever. And then the, the awareness journal practice.
00:23:38
Speaker
During the week, you do the workout once. You do the workout once. The workout serves as a way to RSVP or schedule or reserve some time with yourself and protect that time and honor that time.
00:23:57
Speaker
Because I know I'm as guilty as anybody else is like I'm gonna spend five to ten minutes kind of like Downloading and debriefing myself and thinking and you're writing and it's like yeah, no I'm not you know life gets in the way things get busy but hey You attach a workout Say okay, I want to do this. It's really simple. I don't really need a bunch of stuff. I can do it at basically anywhere I'm physically kind of committed to that
00:24:26
Speaker
And you do it and yeah, the workouts are going to be challenging. It can be hard. Some of them are going to be, you're going to think I'm on, you're going to think I've lost my mind. Haven't. Um.
00:24:37
Speaker
They're going to relate. They're going to relate to the mindset, focus topic, teaching point for the week. But more importantly, you're going to be able to relate that to yourself, how it happens in your life and consistently throughout that week. So I want you to look at these things consistently, not just like a one and done check the box, move on, got the gold star. And here we go. I'm a graduate. Like, no, no one graduates. It's not what it's about.
00:25:09
Speaker
And I, while you're doing the workout once, the journal piece, that's really the key for that week to continue after and follow through. You give yourself seven chances at this element in your life across a week, you're going to get variety. Some of it might be redundant, but maybe on that seventh day or that sixth day, you're like, oh shit, I didn't even consider this. Boom. And you get it. Give yourself the chance.
00:25:43
Speaker
Yeah, so that's what that's that's that's what you get each week one of those obviously it's I'm in there I'm involved I'm kind of coaching and providing thoughts and answering questions and whatever
00:25:58
Speaker
But I'm making a big change that the first kind of test group, if you will, didn't unfortunately get the benefit of. Um, I say benefit. I think it's a benefit, but we're going to go through this thing together and the power of community, the power of shared experiences, the ability to learn from others. Like I'm not the only teacher out here.
00:26:26
Speaker
is huge and it is beautiful and it is something that I really believe in and want to preserve and want to make sure that the group benefits from. So what that means is we're going to start on September 1st. Everybody is going to start on September 1st.
00:26:53
Speaker
So that way everyone's on week one, if you're in the tribe. Now, if you just want to do this thing on your own and you're like, Hey man, I'm a lone wolf. All right, fine. I'll take care of you, but I'm not going to, I'm not, you can do that. That's cool. I'll set that. You can, you can figure that out. It won't be hard for you to do that. If you're like listening to this and you're interested in what I think the real value is and stuff. Yeah. The, the, the, the being part of the tribe thing is going to be huge.
00:27:23
Speaker
So we're all gonna start on the first and go through that way each

Community and Group Support

00:27:28
Speaker
week. Boom. We have the same thing shared experiences then There's going to be at those break weeks. There's going to be group coaching calls So I'm gonna hold group coaching calls They can be you can hop on it for as long as little as you want But it's gonna be a way for all of us to connect and do you know thing on zoom and
00:27:52
Speaker
Talk about what happened, man. Do an AAR, review it, debrief. What do you got? The writing part is challenging. I'll be honest with you, don't underestimate the writing part. The writing part is challenging. So some folks, they want to express this. They want to talk about it. They uncovered something and voice might be a way to do it. Great. We're going to do that. It'll be as long or as short as it needs to be.
00:28:18
Speaker
I mean, my computer's plugged into the wall, so we've got power. We're good. But that'll be really cool. And it'll be a cool way, I think, for others to see and connect with others. Yeah, I know. It's digital. But hey, at least you get to kind of put face to name and have that connection. And then at the end,

BT Practice Goals and Timeline

00:28:42
Speaker
I got some stuff planned for the end, which would be cool. I haven't finalized it yet, so I don't know exactly what it's going to be, but we're going to have something cool at the end. The BT practice will start again on September 1st. I also want to respect your summer. Summer is a busy time. People traveling, vacation, kids, I get it. It's all good. I'm not going to try to fight that.
00:29:12
Speaker
Come September 1st though, be prepared to work. And it's gonna last essentially, so 14 weeks, what's that, like three months? So it's gonna go into right before the holidays and we'll finish that. We'll finish it, I think like maybe the 14th of December. I'm not really sure, but it'll be before the holidays. So for the fall, the fall is your season to work on yourself.
00:29:43
Speaker
I would love to have you join the BTE practice and do so. I am really fired up for it. I believe in it. Some of the feedback and the testimonials, I get goosebumps reading some of them. Man, it's really cool.
00:30:11
Speaker
Each individual did it. Like each individual that participated and that engaged, I say that all the time, but like they truly engaged, they did that. I was, my position, my role was a guide. Helped nudge along, but
00:30:34
Speaker
Yeah. So the work that was being done, the work that was done, uh, was super cool, was awesome. And man, I've been so wanting to get it back, but I've just had to, I've had to honestly had to be patient and figure it out and not just trade one problem for the other. So I, um, I feel good about where it's going to go. I feel good about this new upgrade. I feel good about, um,
00:31:06
Speaker
group element, having everybody aligned, like it's just better. So if you want to join and work on yourself and you're not sure where to start, how to do it, who to listen to, I've got you. And I believe in it a hundred percent with everything I have. I believe in it.
00:31:38
Speaker
I will say I believe it is life changing work for me to say that takes a lot. That was not an easy thing for me to say, but it's true, man. It is true. So where can you find more info? If you go to my Instagram,
00:32:06
Speaker
Bill Anthony's at Bill Anthony's and at between the ears, BTW and the ears. And you just send me a message. I can send you the direct link. That's probably the easiest thing to do. If you're on the BTE insider, which is my weekly newsletter email.
00:32:27
Speaker
bottom of any of the past week few weeks there's the link in there click that click sign up to get updates there's no like it I'm not somebody actually I told I was telling this to someone and they're like okay how do I sign up like it's not for sale it like I'm not selling it yet I'm not really sure like what I gotta figure that out like what do you mean like what do you mean what do I mean what was not clear about that it is not for sale it's like oh you're losing this and revenue like I don't fucking care
00:32:56
Speaker
All right. I need to like, I want to do things right for, for the right reasons for the right people first and figure out that stuff. All right. So anything you're signing up for right now, as of whenever it is July 4th or 5th, whenever you're listening, we'll be to get updates on when it will be available for sale. And if that's like too complicated or you don't have patience for that, then it wasn't for you anyway. And that's all good. Not worried about it.
00:33:26
Speaker
So anything you sign up for currently is just to be like, Hey man, give me a heads up because there's going to be some goodies included in the folks who are on that email, who are on that sign up sheet. I'm going to include some things in there that I think will, um, yeah, that I think will be good and.
00:33:49
Speaker
save some save a few bucks like hey you know being first in line like early bird gets the worm like thank you for the belief save you some money and um

and just be away from me to thank you. So sign up for the updates. And I apologize, I would like to send more updates, but I'm not gonna be able to send anything over the next week and a half. So when I get back, I owe you an update. I will send you an update. And I mean, don't expect anything groundbreaking. You pretty much just heard it all right now. But anyway, give a little bit more insight there. So sign up for that, please.

If you have any questions, send them to me. It's easier for me to actually address your individual question and I have no problem doing it. Everyone's question is going to be a little unique. There's some folks who were very nervous that they couldn't do any of it in the beginning and I asked why and their reason for being nervous was ridiculous. Now that was ridiculous to me but it wasn't to you or it wasn't to that person rather.

So ask the question and I can say like, whoa, like no, if that was the case, no one, like it was like, I don't have like my, like the classic benchmark workouts for Crosso came up or like mile times. I'm like, whoa, whoa, no, like this is.

All right, I think that's it. So where can you find all that stuff? BTW and the ears is the Instagram. Don't go to the website yet, BTE practice. It's not, it's the old one. It's the old platform.

Yeah, don't go to it. You're not going to be able to sign up for it, and it's old, and it's not the right, it's not the real, it's not the real one, so you're going to waste your time. Shoot me an email, billatbtwntheears.com, or message me or whatever on whatever platform.

Hopefully, you found this bit of information about the practice useful, not just what we do because that's flat a little bit, but why I started it, who I want it to be for, and how we go about doing it. Yeah, man, it's life-changing work, so I hope to be able to have the opportunity and the privilege and the honor really to work with you.
