Introduction to Cool for Cats Podcast

Speaker
Hello and welcome to Cool for Cats with me, Amy Hughes. We're inviting you in for black coffee and a chat about our favorite band Squeeze. In this introductory episode, I'll be expanding more on the teaser trailer that I put up for all of you to listen to and also anything else that happens to come inside my head in regards to the band Squeeze.
00:00:27
Speaker
As I mentioned in that teaser trailer, I took a look around the social media landscape and was very surprised that I couldn't find a podcast that was either subject matter concerning squeeze, subject matter that could be considered anything close to song analysis or albums and
00:00:46
Speaker
I would guess that that's one of the things that we love to talk about when it comes to Squeeze.

Why Focus on Squeeze?

00:00:53
Speaker
We love the songs. We love Chris's lyrics. We love Glenn's melodies. And for me to be able to share that now with this kind of technology, I find it really, really exciting. I put the word out there.
00:01:08
Speaker
And I got back an incredible positive feedback, just amazing. It really, really, truly heartfelt blew me away. I knew for a fact that there were so many people out there, people that I had talked with at gigs, including a recent gig that I went to.
00:01:32
Speaker
The feeling was so amazing for people that either had never been to a Squeeze gig, had not played deep cuts in any of their albums, maybe even unfamiliar that, hey, this band actually did a Christmas single called Christmas Day.

Feedback and Fan Engagement

00:01:50
Speaker
which we will talk about later on. But the whole environment surrounding Squeeze is so positive. And I was very happy to get a lot of that positive feedback. People that said, hey, I would love to hear that. I would love to help out. I would, hey, let's have a chat. I would love to chat about Cozy Fan 2D Fruity.
00:02:13
Speaker
I would love to talk about Squeeves 45s and Under, which is absolutely a benchmark starting point yardstick for everybody who wants to get their feet wet with songs.
00:02:28
Speaker
So I decided, hey, this is where we need to start. And I'm really excited that there's going to be so much forthcoming that I actually am so busy trying to remind myself that a lot of people want to talk about it.
00:02:49
Speaker
And my original idea was going to be me just nattering on in front of a microphone about any song or collection of songs. I would sit down and say, I'm going to talk about Frank because I think it's a really underrated album. Been underrated is an overused term when it comes to Squeeze. And a lot of people have apparently agreed with me on many points when it comes to Squeeze.
00:03:16
Speaker
So I'm very encouraged by a lot of the feedback that I received.

Squeeze's History and Future Topics

00:03:23
Speaker
So there is going to be a lot of conversations that are going to be coming up in the near future, in the near past, where we can talk about the history of the band that can go as far back as the early 70s to their original beginnings back in Greenwich and Blackheath. We can move on up to the early 80s with the advent of MTV.
00:03:47
Speaker
We can talk about that sort of strange breakup in the middle of the 80s. And then we can talk about a regathering, a purposeful moving forward with a lot of the songs. How many people know that? Glentil Brook did a guest vocal on an Elvis Costello song. We're going to talk about From a Whisper to a Scream because it's extremely relevant.
00:04:12
Speaker
Those are the kinds of conversations, topics, themes, songs, personalities that are going to start to get put into the mix, as it were. So what I'll say in conclusion is that I'm
00:04:30
Speaker
really excited. I have a lot going on in my head about where I would like this podcast to fit in with all the other podcasts that people will be are listening to because this is a very
00:04:48
Speaker
near and dear topic. And it's a band that really deserves to have more of an expanse, more of conversational analysis is another term that could possibly be overused when it comes to songs by squeeze. But there's so much there. There's so many side angles. There's sometimes the conversation could be about the things we don't understand in the song lyrics.

Involving Fans and British Nuances

00:05:16
Speaker
Maybe, as speaking as somebody in the US, I may not understand some of the sort of Britishisms. I would love to be able to bring a lot of people in who really get that and can help explain some of those things that may be a little esoteric, help clarify points.
00:05:32
Speaker
And then for us to be able to say back, we love this band. Let's have a few laughs. Let's be very happy that we can have this kind of environment where anybody could literally come into
00:05:50
Speaker
conversation and say I love Squeeze and then right on we are we are definitely going to be talking about so many different things when it comes to this podcast. So that's kind of my little bit of a ramble at the moment. I again have so much gratitude and thanks for everybody who has come on board and
00:06:14
Speaker
and said that they love the band, they want to contribute, I definitely thank you from the bottom of my heart. And with all of that, I'd like to say if there's anything that you would like to, as a listener, would like to hear about more in depth, we will definitely do that. I've got some subject matter experts who know way more than I do, which is very, very helpful to me.
