Are trade shows worth it? How do you deal with internet trolls? How much money would you have to find in a festival port-a-john that you'd be willing to fish it out with your bare hands? Those are just a few of the questions hosts Chris Benson of Benson Amps, Bryan Sours of Soursound Audio Works, and Charles Henry of Silktone Amplifiers tackle in episode 3 of Amplified Nonsense.

If you'd like Bryan, Charles, and Chris to answer your question on an episode of Amplified Nonsense, call ‪(513) 334-3803‬ and leave a voicemail.

Introduction to Amplified Nonsense

00:00:07
Speaker
Welcome to Amplified Nonsense, the podcast about amps, life, love and laughter featuring Brian Sowers from Soursound, Chris Benson from Benson Amps and Charles Henry from Silktone Amplifiers.
00:00:21
Speaker
Didn't you establish that this is not about amplifiers? It is a thread that ties you together. i' am Emily. I am the producer of this show. I'm only here to keep these guys in line. So going to turn it back over to them. Right on. I think that's a running theme. I think over the course of how long we do this, it'll just be less and less and less and less about amps and more about... About anything but.

Trolling and Humor in Echo Knot Amp Videos

00:00:45
Speaker
Anything about butts. Yeah. Anything butts. Yeah. We're here to talk about but anything butts. The, um, I had a guy trolling all of my Echo not amp videos today. Like, so was today the actual release?
00:00:59
Speaker
No, just of one video, just of like the ambient trash video. And this dude went on and was like, do you want to tell people what the Echo Knot is? i'm I'm trying to kind of. Oh, thanks. Yeah. Yeah. A little nod, a little wink, with a little nudge, nudge. We just talked about not, we just talked about not talking about amplifiers. So I was trying to keep it short, but but the Echo Knot is my little eight watt combo, little 10 inch combo with reverb.
00:01:24
Speaker
It's kind of new. It's super fun. Go check it out. or listen to this guy and get a Marshall silver Jubilee instead for less than $2,000. Cause apparently it's way less of a ripoff. But, um, yeah, the dude was like, the dude was like, Oh my God, this is red ridiculous. yeah It's one of those like dollar per watt guys, like $2,000 for an eight watt amp. Oh my God. food food This dude's trying to steal my children.
00:01:47
Speaker
uh, It was funny, like, I ignored it, but then, like, that was on the video that released today, and he was, like, super heated about it, and he went back and forth with ambient trash and and was talking, trying to justify his disdain.
00:02:01
Speaker
And then, like, he went on every other past EchoNaut video and, like, left the same in comment. So... Yeah. So I was like, damn, dude, you really, really don't like this thing. So I wanted to get back at him and just, I haven't figured out what to say yet. I mean, I'm trying to catch him with like these nuts jokes and stuff.
00:02:21
Speaker
I'll do that in the comments, but I was like, did you try the new Marshall dragon slide? Dragon slide these nuts on your face. you know But I really wanted to be like, dude, what, like what boutique builder hurt you that you're like so upset about these high end amps? Like, was it Benson? I'll, I'll go rough them up, dude. Did you just stuck in Friedman's butt cheeks? Like what, what'd you do? like ah well yeah What was his handle?
00:02:50
Speaker
MLaw 501 or something. He's a lawyer. Yeah, I'm sure. What gave that away? He's a rock lawyer. Yeah, I kind of feel like he's commented on my videos before.
00:03:02
Speaker
Yeah, he gets upset. I don't know. I think he just has fun. So Buddy Blues is the one that showed me and he was like, he was like, go look at this thread. And Buddy, he just tends to like rage bait boomers that hate like high end gear and stuff.
00:03:15
Speaker
So yeah, that's been funny. But Buddy is so good at like baiting him that when I go in with my comments, like... do you have room 40? I don't get engagement. So I don't have a chance to do my mic drop these notes jokes. So I'm disappointed. I wanted to beat, I wanted to, to get him and feel like I beat the internet and like beat the last boss. But yeah,
00:03:39
Speaker
yeah Man, I beat an internet a couple weeks ago. Yeah? What happened?

Criticism of Super Basement Amp Design

00:03:44
Speaker
I usually don't engage, but there's some guy who's like posting on our b seven hundred Hell yeah, the bass amp?
00:03:49
Speaker
And he was just like, this is ridiculous, you know? He's getting the same thing. It's like, it doesn't even, like, you have to use like the right impedance to even get 700 watts out of this module. you know, that kind of thing. Cause it's like class D he's like, you can get like a super basement for, for a little bit less, like one of the, and I was just like, don't know. I was feeling spicy. usually I just like,
00:04:12
Speaker
ignore it but i i kind of went back and forth with him for like it's fun half an hour was just like you should ah ask literally any repair tech in the world what they think about super basements and how much they take to keep and what's the super baseman is this a mod is a modern fender product i assume i don't i don't keep up with the times i'm yeah i'm old It's a modern Fender.
00:04:35
Speaker
was sort of like their version of the Model T or something, but then they just put Super Basement on there or something. don't know. Is it for is it a Quad 6550s or a Sextet? I'm pretty sure it's a Sextet, and it's just a nightmare. It's a nightmare amp.
00:04:50
Speaker
I know this amp. I saw this amp a long time ago at the shop on Morrison. Modest Mouse has or had a ah deal with... the With Fender. And they got those things. I forget who was playing bass at the time. It was after Eric left.
00:05:08
Speaker
And they got those things. And basically, I think they brought me the first one when it broke. And that was the one where the the power transformer, the transformers are like mounted on the the wooden cabinet, right?
00:05:23
Speaker
Like it's like a chassis with that. It's cut. There isn't like a real chassis. It's these like, Oh wow. Yeah. It's I'm, I'm sure it's that one. Those things failed so much, man. It's been over a decade since I've been inside one.
00:05:36
Speaker
I've never worked on one. They, yeah, they just kept sending them back. Dude. I'm also realizing, should I be trashing a fender product on a public podcast? But, uh, whatever. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, here we are.
00:05:50
Speaker
Those were, those things were not good. Yeah, I remember those comments, Chris. That dude's a boner. Also, like was it was about a bunch of impedance stuff, right? And he's like, who's going to go back and forth with like a revered ant maker and argue about impedance matching and stuff? like I would. That's me. I'd do that. You would. But you are a revered something. so Something. A revered sour. Hey, I am what I am. i am what I am.

Value and Experience of Trade Shows

00:06:15
Speaker
Speaking of butts, do we have a phone call?
00:06:19
Speaker
Yeah, let's get into the first phone call. Charles, this is someone that you might have seen sometime in the past month, and he released a video today, and you have a little cameo in it.
00:06:32
Speaker
Hi there. This is Perfecto DeCastro, and I wanted to ask, and what do you think of trade shows? Are they worth doing? that's a big question. Are they worth doing?
00:06:45
Speaker
Yeah, that's the whole question. Yeah, I did see him. I saw him at the Osaka show. That was rad. I see him at like every show I go to now. So we finally like talked and he played some stuff and that was a that was fun. Super nice guy.
00:06:57
Speaker
I've only done a few. I think some of them are worth doing and I'll never i'll probably never do Nam again. I don't think that was worth doing, but I've heard a lot of people have a lot of luck there and it's cool to like break into a market where you remain largely unseen, but... it I don't, what?
00:07:17
Speaker
Charles doesn't, no. What are you talking about? bri We have a chat. Listeners, there's a chat. Yes. So b Brian, whose username today is Brian is tired. We're in the chat.
00:07:33
Speaker
Charles doesn't, doesn't remember his name. But I said perfecto, didn't I? I don't know. Yeah, I did. Fuck her. Shut up, Brian. Anyway, um yeah, NAMM sucks. i I don't know if I should say that on ah on a public podcast either, but man, that that was a bummer.
00:07:52
Speaker
Chris, you've done a bunch of them. What do you think? I like the smaller ones better typically. They're always stressful and horrible. I don't know. I mean, you asked if I should do NAMM last year, I remember, and I was just sort of like...
00:08:05
Speaker
if you want to grow your business, it's, it can be a good thing. Yeah. Um, it has definitely helped me out a lot in the past, but I'm not, that was in like the, uh, 2010s and I have, I've only gone once, I believe this decade. Hmm.
00:08:22
Speaker
And I don't, I started getting diminishing returns and then decided that I probably just wasn't going to do it again. So yeah it really depends on where you're at. Like if you want visibility and you want to grow, yeah, it's a good, it's a good idea. It's fun too. You know, you get to talk to builders and vendors and run into people that ah you wouldn't normally brush elbows with. so Yeah, that's the funnest part, I think, is seeing people like Perfecto and like I've so many people that I talk to online all the time and then you get to meet up together. So like I like attending them for just the communal purposes, but actually running one is like it's just constant go, go, go, go. go
00:09:07
Speaker
And it can be really exhausting. I'm just not used to being like a sales pitch kind of person. So especially doing them alone, like I've brought, I've brought an employee before and that's way easier, but doing them alone and just running people come and you get so many different kinds of people. Some people know who you are already. You want to check out, they want to check out your stuff. And that's very cool to give people a chance to do that.
00:09:27
Speaker
And then other people come up and they've like never heard of a guitar pedal before. And they're like, so what, what is this? tell You know? And it's like, Whoa, uh, don't know if I want to have this conversation, and but, uh, yeah, it's a weird experience, but, but I do tend to like the smaller ones, um, the pedal pop-ups and, and like Benson fest was really fun. Um, when we did that up in Portland, uh, last year, I think it just depends on the show. And I've had a lot of success at shows, smaller shows and bigger, the Japan shows I've had a lot of success at.
00:09:58
Speaker
Uh, so that's really cool. Um, so being worth doing, it just depends what you want to get out of it, I guess. If you want a fun time and hanging, then yeah. If it's like for a financial gain, I think the best I've ever done is break even, but then you also spread awareness. So it's hard to gauge that. What you think,

Gear Fest Tuning Mishap Story

00:10:18
Speaker
Brian?
00:10:18
Speaker
Have you attended a bunch of shows? I've only ever, well attended. Yes. I've only ever presented at one ever. Which is probably worth mentioning. There he is. He knows. Yeah, you should tell the story, Brian, of the frequencies.
00:10:33
Speaker
Yeah. What year was that? Oh, gosh. 2016?
00:10:38
Speaker
Was that like post COVID? No, no, no, definitely not. It must've been right before it then. I'm going to say 2019. Okay. Well, anyway, so there was, that there's a local nonprofit called music Portland that interfaces with a lot of different areas of, of music and musical business. And they did, i did, I don't remember if they did it a year after this or not, but they did their own kind of like miniature, you know,
00:11:05
Speaker
NAMM sort of thing. They called it Gear Fest, if I remember correctly. And they asked... I helped to organize it yeah and it was rad. Yeah, So Chris was involved with that first year. And i think, Chris, you were the one that asked me to to present. And at the time, i was still... Yeah, i was the total headhunter for everything.
00:11:21
Speaker
At the time I was still building. And so I had these 55 watt amps that I was doing along with ah this combo amp that I did. And so I brought, and I think I had my ABY there at the time.
00:11:35
Speaker
And so I had a whole rig where it was two combo amps and two of the 55 watts, and then we could switch between the rigs and Anyway, so I brought my one last Paul that i kind of voiced all my amps at the time with and a small pedal board. I think Chris and some other people, Maleko, gave me some stuff to put on it. Anyway, cool setup, right? Brought my own stuff, set it all up. I'm stoked on it, whatever.
00:11:57
Speaker
So Chris and the Benson guys, they're all set up right next to me, right? And I don't remember how many amps they had, more than me, but it wasn't really like a volume competition thing or anything like that. And then on the other side of the room was one other builder, kind of more Tweed amps. I don't recall the company name.
00:12:15
Speaker
And so- Roadhouse. There it is, yep. And so three of us set up all in the room. And so people come in and all the amps are facing one wall, which is the wall that all of us are sitting against.
00:12:27
Speaker
And so it's basically just a constant onslaught all day, kind of what you'd expect. So I think it was around like four or 4.30, me and Chris were sitting there talking and someone was playing something. And I think Oh yeah. Someone grabbed my guitar and they were playing my rig and looked at me and kind of like, ah, it's weirdly out of tune. i don't really know what's going on. i was like, we'll hit the tuner.
00:12:50
Speaker
And they're like, it just doesn't sound right to me. And I said, whoa, well, huh, okay. ah I looked at Chris and I looked back at the guy and I said, well, all my guitars are tuned to a four thirty two And I look back at Chris and he looks at me and his eyes, his eyes are huge, right?
00:13:11
Speaker
And he looks like, like his face is like nothing but surprise, but I swear he's like lifting a hand to slap me. And he says, I have been so exhausted, exhausted,
00:13:23
Speaker
discordant out of my mind for this entire day. This entire day has been harder on me than a weekend of NAMM and I don't know what the hell is going on and you're telling me that we have been eight Hertz out from each other's rigs all day.
00:13:42
Speaker
what the hell and he look he's so mad but then he realizes he just kind of like like it triggers his brain he just like calms down he's like we need to get some beer
00:13:55
Speaker
but yeah so we were blasting each other all day just with this like discordant it was yeah yeah i thought i was going out of my mind all day yeah we were all wrecked but i that was what wrecked us to be honest See, that's one that sounds worth it to me. That sounds worth it to present ah and attend because what a fun story.
00:14:14
Speaker
That sounds like hell. just to i just want to put it out there. That sounds like hell. But it it was this thing where like the room was so loud that it was just kind of and it was my first show. so you know, presenting anything. So I never, I didn't, I was just like, oh this is par for the course. Like I've got to spend five hours, you know, talking with people and, you know, emotionally masking the entire time. I just assumed that my exhaustion was based around that. Yeah, that's the thing too. they did Some of them get really loud. like I feel like there's benefits. I think I've done more headphone shows than like fully amplified.
00:14:46
Speaker
And because I always want to bring amps, I prefer the fully amplified ones. But then it gets so loud. But like... The headphone ones are way more chill because you can actually hear people. You don't have to scream, but then everyone has to hear their headphones. And I feel like you don't get the full experience when people can play this stuff amplified. It's way more fun to see the reaction and people love the stuff. And we had a whole, like when we did do the NAMM thing, we had like a private isolation booth right next to our booth. So that was really cool to bring people into, but yeah, there's just trade-offs. i
00:15:17
Speaker
the Japan show I just did was fully headphone because we were in the pedal room and, um, I don't ever want to do that again. Like I, if I bring amps, I want to turn them up. So yeah, it's so different. They're also different You can't listen to what an amp does without having the room as a player in the, in the formula for sure. and And the setup I had there, like the, so the combo amps with my ABY, which I was trying to showcase that as well.
00:15:42
Speaker
You know they both had bias modulated tremolo. And they were split wide enough where there was a was a real stereo image between the two and EQed a little bit differently. And then the tremolo, I had a pedal that would engage both amps at once and you would offset the speeds.
00:15:59
Speaker
So you just get this like wacky spread and there's no like headphones and stuff wouldn't have conveyed that. And then the 55 watt amps were each on a Marshall 412, which like thinking about this now, I'm like...
00:16:11
Speaker
Man, I was the instigator here. Like, i am, I was a dick. Like, just show up, like, you got some Tweed amps, and, you know, I think Vincent's loudest amp at the time, I assume was, was ah I think you're Vincent, right? So, 30 watts, 35.
00:16:25
Speaker
35, yeah. Yeah, I was a dick. That was really rude of me. I'm sorry, Chris. I publicly apologize, Chris. Oh, well, thank you. that Your contrition means the world to me. Aw, maybe he'll finally invite you back to another one. Well, yes, that's the thing. I've never, I've never showed anything. Yeah. You know, Benson Fest.
00:16:43
Speaker
After that one, it's like blacklist. Benson Fest was fun. I was, I was there briefly, but I actually asked Chris, you know, Hey, should I set up a booth for this? And he was like, and do what?
00:16:54
Speaker
You know, just let people, you know, and get, get a quick workout, you know, lifting transformers, you know, you know, showcase my paperweights.
00:17:05
Speaker
Just you should do like an interactive booth where you make them put together butt stacks and stuff. yeah that's Yeah, that's exactly what it is. It's kit transit. I just don't ever remember anything that I say. So this is always humorous to hear.
00:17:19
Speaker
Yeah, my experience with with shows is more visiting other people, visiting you guys.

Benson Fest Memories and Challenges

00:17:23
Speaker
And usually, you know, the first couple of years of that, I felt like I always had to be the like, hey, are you okay? Do you need a sandwich? you need some water? And I still try and do that. You need me to get coffee.
00:17:34
Speaker
I was just going to say, you're always i always love when you come to the shows because you're like, do you need sandwich, dude? I'm like... Yeah, I feel like my social anxiety has just ramped up so much over the past couple years that you know it's hard for me to stick around for a full one. Benson Fest was packed. Wow. but yeah Are we doing that again? Are you doing that again this year?
00:17:53
Speaker
I don't think we are. okay i had a great time. the ah The lady that helped me put it together is on maternity leave slash okay might never come back because she's really enjoying just having baby at home. yeah And I just don't think I have it in me to organize it, especially in, uh, in today's economic climate, maybe next year, maybe next year. That's cool.
00:18:19
Speaker
We'll do something else instead. It was a blast, but but was fun. That was like, I did so much last year. It was so insane. Like between that and the beach boys and everything,
00:18:30
Speaker
I like, I haven't left my house since like December. The after show, the after show is fun hanging out with David Torn and stuff. That was, we should just do that again. Don't do a trade show. Just invite people over to come party and eat tacos and and get hungover.
00:18:45
Speaker
Yeah. Having David there was amazing. He's got so much energy. Yeah. He like kept dragging me out to do things that were completely unrelated to the show. Like he's like, let's go play pool. Yeah. Do my fishing, play pool. now.
00:19:02
Speaker
Yeah, he he ran me ragged. i It was so fun, though. Did you really go fishing? No, I don't think. Oh, okay. I think I offered, and he was like, no, let's go play pool or something else. something He kept wanting to get snacks.
00:19:16
Speaker
like we We went to the grocery store so many times. No. Did you guys go to the zoo or something? I remember you telling me, I was like, what, what are you up to decompressing after the fest? You're like decompressing.
00:19:28
Speaker
oh I'm doing this. I'm doing that. You know, me, David, and the kids are going to the zoo. Nice. No, we didn't go to the zoo. ah would have been sweet. There was something. My house is kind of a zoo.
00:19:41
Speaker
I swear you were like, Oh yeah. Something. We're at a soccer game. Well, we have a few other phone calls. I have a few hypotheticals.
00:19:53
Speaker
you want the shorter hypothetical or the longer hypothetical? Longer? All right, let's do it.

Hypothetical Skill Choice Question

00:20:01
Speaker
Hey, how are you? It's John. Could use some help here? I've been told with reliable amounts of certainty that for one year, i could be the best at something, and I could choose what I want to be the best at. I will be the best at anyone in the world of this thing for exactly one year, and I can't decide what I should choose to be the best at for that one year.
00:20:19
Speaker
I'd really love some help. Thanks so much.
00:20:23
Speaker
jump off Next question.
00:20:27
Speaker
Hey, do you remember the conversation that we had like months ago, considering how hard it is for us to get together and do this about how Chris wanted to show the podcast to his mom?
00:20:39
Speaker
Oh, oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I just, there's going to be a big bleep on that. We'll beep that one out. No, I am going to bleep that out and it will be very funny. Okay. You guys, you guys, you guys take guys stay a stab at it.
00:20:53
Speaker
ah And jacking and stabbing. Oh, you're taking all the good options. I don't know if I had a year. That's what I thought. the The best at something. Yes, for one for one calendar year, you can be the best at one thing, anything, but then that's it. Investing money. There you go. That's my answer.
00:21:12
Speaker
Investing money. I keep coming up with all these existential things like self-c***. Can we bleep that? Yeah, you should.
00:21:22
Speaker
I'm not going bleep the word. Yeah, there you go. You
00:21:30
Speaker
guys are dirty. Yeah. Internet trolling would be fun. Man, I spend every year just trying to be the best at making Transformers. I don't need i don't need a and't need to to schedule that. i don't need to calendar it. Yeah, it's hard to answer this when I'm already the best at everything.
00:21:46
Speaker
i don't know what to pick. What should our caller pick? If he, what what advice would we have for him to be the best at something? He should become the best boutique guitar amp builder ever.
00:22:01
Speaker
Just put everyone here to shame. Yeah. He should be the best at podcast phone call questions and call in every time with these bangers.
00:22:14
Speaker
Comedy goldmine. No, I stick to my answer. next question
00:22:23
Speaker
you do You won't want to do anything else. just You'll be satisfied for a year. least you'll be satisfied. I don't think the guy asking the question is going to be satisfied. He's going be like, I'm never calling this show again. Screw these. It's too open-ended. Anything, i mean...
00:22:39
Speaker
Yeah. Investing money. And then you can do whatever else you want the next year. Like Chris said, or yeah, self-compassion. So then maybe when the year's up, you don't feel the need to be the best at anything ever again.
00:22:51
Speaker
Yeah. You're like a happy, well-adjusted person. Imagine that. just check its false I mean, the problem is it it goes away.
00:23:02
Speaker
Yeah, it does go away. It's not like you're working on making the craft. It's like you have a magic power, superpower. It starts on January 1st and it goes away when the ball drops. Do the results of said power also go away? So if you're the best at investing money for a year after the year, does all that money that you made from investing vanish or?
00:23:22
Speaker
No, I don't think so. so I'm changing my answer because I now understand the question so much more. Making pizza. I want to be the bomb at making pizza. But then you wouldn't be the bomb. So you'd have bomb pizza for a year and then never again. And then you'd be sad. That's fine. But the world would get to experience great pizza. And if you lived in Portland, you'd know the pizza here sucks.
00:23:44
Speaker
But then after a year, you'd wouldn't you wouldn't you be more bummed for the rest of your life not being able to have again? Here's the other thing. If you lived in Portland, you'd know that if you had really, really great, the best in the world pizza, somebody would steal it in like a month. So when it's all over, you get to reap the benefits, you know, reap the fruits and just eat your creations that other people are making.
00:24:06
Speaker
I'm telling you, it's a perfect answer. Next. So you create something great, other people take it, and then your legacy lives on through them ah your greatness. We're talking about pizza, not Transformers. Okay, that's that's a better way to put it. Yeah.
00:24:21
Speaker
Okay, then everyone learn from me and the world will be... I just imagine Chris being like, all right, here you go, but not this episode, Mom, not this one.
00:24:33
Speaker
If you could really spread your knowledge and love... Oh, my God. That's...
00:24:38
Speaker
Next question. Okay. ah Speaking of money. Hello. My question is, what is the minimum amount of money that you would be willing to fish out of a quarter-john a festival?
00:24:55
Speaker
Thank you. I mean, more than 20 bucks. Yeah. Yeah. a hundred bucks yeah Yeah. Like if I saw like a hundred dollar bill, I'd be like, oh damn. Yeah. Damn. Somebody get me a ah a hook in a fishing line. I'd go to Washington and buy some pizza.
00:25:10
Speaker
Like, Hey Chris, let me borrow one of your poles out of your truck.
00:25:15
Speaker
I mean, if it's like actually fishing with like a, I assume you meant whatever. Like, yeah, I'm assuming that and you're going in. I mean, not me. I'm using a net. And if you're going in. You're going in. You're fishhooking your thing. You're getting, yeah, you're fishing it out with your with your hands.
00:25:33
Speaker
There's a lot of very. Emily, set ah set the scene. The scene at like a Bonnaroo? No, like what are how are we fishing out? No, the scene at the Port of John. Oh, you're up you're absolutely using your hands. Okay.
00:25:45
Speaker
um you are going like You were like leaning into of John. How bad is the John? Who's your shit in it? what was it yeah let let's sit let's Let's say the festival's been open, gates opened at noon, and it's 5 o'clock.
00:26:00
Speaker
First day? They clean them every day. Let's say this say it's the first day. People might be lot nastier the second day, though. But, okay, first day. um Yeah, 100 bucks. mean, I'm just sticking with 100 bucks. Yeah, exactly. hundred I already answered the question. 100 bucks. They're saying, because you wash your hands. like oh I mean, I'm going to use a glove. Come on.
00:26:23
Speaker
You would just bring gloves? You don't? to show No. I mean, it's a festival. i'm going to bring a lot more than gloves. That's not a bad idea. I mean, I wouldn't go to a festival anyway. Well, I mean, I've obviously been to festivals before, but... I've had worse things on my hands. I can...
00:26:39
Speaker
It all rinses off. but Chris is strangely silent. Chris, yeah, you're ah suspiciously quiet. I'm just kind of doing the calculus here. If given no more information or allowed to inspect the situation, I think a safe answer for me would be like $7,500. $7,500? Yeah. What did you have in mind that you could buy with that to where you came to that number? Like, oh man, I could buy a sweet...
00:27:03
Speaker
i kind of have everything that I want. I'm just like an amp guy, right? I don't want anything else. I'm content. That's why my number is probably really high.
00:27:17
Speaker
That's fair. Well, we have one last question and I think it's going to be kind of a sweet note.

Crafting Creative Compliments

00:27:24
Speaker
My girlfriend said her love languages are words of affirmation, but I'm running out of them and they're getting repetitive.
00:27:32
Speaker
Do you have any creative compliments I could give her? This is a good one. Oh, wow. But it stumped me. and Give me a second. Can we have like a link to a a social media profile? of We need to figure out what, you know, who this person is and what their what their bag is.
00:27:49
Speaker
I might be able to do that. no That's not too creepy? I mean, it is. Yeah. Okay, cool. I'm right with that. Tell her you'd fish her out of a Port-a-John at Bonnaroo.
00:28:00
Speaker
For $20. How
00:28:04
Speaker
yeah how about you're a pretty princess? ah How about I love your laugh? Yeah. What's the most? I like complimenting things that girls might not often get complimented on. It seems to throw them.
00:28:18
Speaker
you know How about like you will outlive all of your enemies? Or just throw around, you know, something that is cool, but not a lot of people say like, man, your eyebrows are just killing it today.
00:28:29
Speaker
I use that compliment a lot in my videos. The eyebrow one People love it. Brian, I love your eyebrows today. Yeah. I mean, they're they're great every day. They're killer. They're killer eyebrows. Yeah.
00:28:40
Speaker
Yeah, I'd say so. You lose the weight. No. Looking cute. No, I'm getting older. I'm trying to think ah of, yeah, okay. I think that this guy just needs to speak from the heart, which sounds cheesy, but seriously, like, you know, open it up.
00:28:57
Speaker
Baby, I love you so much, and that's only outweighed by how much I respect you. You know, something like that. Brian, I love the blush in your cheeks. It really brings out the brightness in your soul.
00:29:08
Speaker
Oh, see, that's sweet. Thank you. See, it's easy. You just go for it. Yeah, well, I've been pinching them. Like, I've been off-camera pinching them this entire time. but Chris and Emily's cameras are off, right? You know, I go back and forth with them, too.
00:29:19
Speaker
Oh, they're probably, like, writing notes to each other, like, these guys are lame. Now we should unnecessarily bleep, like, half of that conversation. Mm-hmm. You know, men are... Okay, I'm just going to jump in.
00:29:33
Speaker
I think men are easier to compliment because men don't get a lot of compliments. Yeah. I've been dealing with this lately. but Oh yeah. No, no, no. This is, oh, I know where you're going with this. This is, yeah, do it, do it. Go there.
00:29:46
Speaker
Me? Yeah. Yeah.
00:29:49
Speaker
ahs That's a little personal, but no, the, um, it's wild. Uh, It threw me for a f***ing loop being in Japan because everyone is so, so encouraging and supportive and, like, the smallest little thing. They, like, like totally, genuinely applaud you and lift you up. And I don't know if it's fake or polite or what.
00:30:11
Speaker
Sometimes it seems more than others, but, like... Any little thing. I was joking with a lot of friends about this. And like, as an American, you'd go over there and like, you can use chopsticks and they're like, Oh, you use chopsticks. Which is like, you're an amazing person. And they're clapping and excited. It's just like, yeah, I am amazing to tell me more.
00:30:30
Speaker
But, uh, it would just, yeah, it was a weird, uh, kind of culture shock and i was like holy shock it's it's a huge ego stroke being over there because everyone is so kind and uh and it seems really genuine and uh i don't know if that's where brian thought i was going with it but that's exactly where i thought you were going yeah it's just really it's hard it kind of goes to your head and you're like holy i feel really good over here and everyone's so nice and polite and i've been learning the language a little bit so like yeah speaking to them a little more than beyond like, thank you. And hello, everyone just was super shocked. And like, like, oh my God, your Japanese is amazing. Like keep practicing, please, please come over here. We love you here.
00:31:10
Speaker
Uh, when you, when you practice and try, you know, and it, it was, uh, it was really nice. It was really sweet. And it makes me want to be there more. But also like, you know, these people that you didn't know them, they were strangers most of the time complimenting you like this. And we need to figure out how to compliment this person's partner, who is a complete stranger to us. Right.
00:31:31
Speaker
That's true. Tell her she's really good at using chopsticks. Yeah. ah And to practice her Japanese because we love it. tell her We love her. Yeah. And yeah. Tell her her Japanese is really smooth and her pronunciation is really good. And she'll probably fall in love with you. Cause I fell in love with complete strangers on a daily basis over there. It's just like, Oh my God, that's so good. Your pronunciation is so smooth. And I was like, do you, do you want to get married?
00:31:59
Speaker
Well, guys, your smiles could power a small city. oh wow. And your, kind and your confidence is inspiring. i i it all I am disarmed.
00:32:13
Speaker
um pleasantly Do you yeah want to get married? but that's good thank you Your resilience is admirable and your passion is motivating. Chris, that's not to Your webcams off. Is this chat GPT?
00:32:26
Speaker
No, so it's to me. No, it's a it's a it's a list of ah compliments I've pulled from before for my channel. Cheater. I know. Well, for people who don't know when I do a YouTube video, I started off with a compliment. Oh, mm.
00:32:42
Speaker
Still affirmation. I'm really proud of everything you've accomplished accomplished this year, and I hope you're proud of yourself, too. some Stuart Smalley. Hell yeah. hang Yeah. I know that's not for me, but it feels like it's for me and it feels really good. Thank you.
00:32:57
Speaker
