The Amazing Rewatch: Hello everybody! Hello. So exciting. We are starting season. 20. Yeah. Of the amazing race. We're like. I mean we're halfway through. Yeah, it's a big... almost More than halfway through now because... Milestone. Season 39 has been announced.
The Amazing Rewatch: Now, starting in September of 2026. They've like released the the teams that will be racing. And that starts in just a couple of months, probably.
The Amazing Rewatch: When we release this at the beginning of September, it'll just be like a few weeks away. Yeah. I'm hoping it's better than season 39 or 38. Yeah. I think it will be. Yeah. and Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: Season 20. This one is we've got a lot of memorable teams. Yes. One in particular. Is that what you said? A lot of memorable teams, actually. Oh, yeah. Mark and Bopper.
The Amazing Rewatch: Art and JJ, Rachel and bre Brendan. Yeah. Um, And also quite a few teams that returned for... Mm -hmm.
The Amazing Rewatch: It's going to be a good season. Yeah. Do you remember who wins? I don't remember who wins but I remember. a lot of these teams. I... Definitely remember who wins this one. just I won't say anymore Okay. So. Well.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah, this season was released in the spring of... 2012. Started in February. From February to May of 2012 was when it aired. So it was filmed. like kind of in the end of 2011.
The Amazing Rewatch: And... When we start a new season, we kind of go... in time. I have the hiccups. Back in time. and Talk about. what was kind of going on on in the world of pop culture, world events, music. movies.

The Amazing Rewatch: Fifth was... so Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 2. Six was The Amazing Spider -Man. Seventh was Brave. Eighth was The Hobbit. Ninth was Ted. And tenth was Madagascar 3.

The Amazing Rewatch: Um... So yeah, those were the good movies that year. um The top TV. was Sunday Night Football, NCIS, Dancing with the Stars, American Idol Wednesday, American Idol Thursday, Dancing with the Stars Results.
The Amazing Rewatch: NCIS Los Angeles, The Big Bang Theory, of The Mentalist, and The Voice. And then there was... Things like... Grey's Anatomy, The X Factor.
The Amazing Rewatch: Desperate Housewives Once Upon a Time. Things like that. Modern family. Um... Speaking of Dancing with the Stars, I've started announcing.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yes, I'm very excited because that will also be coming out in September. Okay. Yeah. Who have they announced so far? They have... Well, they have Jenna Dewan. she's a professional dancer are you serious yeah i didn't hear that one Yeah. That's crazy.
The Amazing Rewatch: I don't think that one should be fair. I mean, they say that every year. i It doesn't bother me. Because... I don't want to watch. 12. really really really bad dancers. It is more entertaining to me to watch people that are good at dancing.

The Amazing Rewatch: Guy. Um... Oh. And he was on like. a Crazy Rich Asians for like a second. I was going to say like half a second. Yeah. Huh. So who are the confirmed people? Let's see.

The Amazing Rewatch: Mara from love The Traitors of Love Island. um Sierra. The singer. Oh, no, actually a different Sierra. She was on Traders, too. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: um Jackson from so but Savannah Bananas, Guillermo from Jimmy Kimmel. Okay. Um...
The Amazing Rewatch: Did you see the thing? is Okay, so James Lafferty, Nathan on One Tree Hill, he was like, if we... If our show goes to number one on earth goes into the top five on Netflix, I'll go on Dancing with the Stars.
The Amazing Rewatch: He did? Yeah. What's the show? Um, Those are the only four confirmed. Yeah. Ah. Everybody is doing all right. Nice. It's on Netflix? Yeah. And I haven't actually watched it yet.
The Amazing Rewatch: I should just like stream it in the background over and over. so Because if he was on Dancing with the Stars, I would absolutely die. Yeah. He said in the top 15.

The Amazing Rewatch: Ahem. I would. Love that. Um, But yeah, that's our one of our favorites. Yeah. So 2012, this didn't happen until the end of the year, 12, 12, 12.
The Amazing Rewatch: was the day that me and Jeff met. Oh. That's cute. and we Like there were not really. Sparks. At the beginning. Yeah. Because The Hobbit was on your list. Oh, yeah. Of top movies. And he was, so when I met him, he was wearing like this.
The Amazing Rewatch: weird band t -shirt. And. We ended up like going somewhere together and like we were like a group of friends were carpooling and I ended up being in his car.
The Amazing Rewatch: the only one in his car And so we were just kind of like chatting. And he was like, So excited to go see The Hobbit the next day and I was like oh my go my gosh what A nerd.
The Amazing Rewatch: ah And... Yeah. And you know I told him that I grew up. working on a farm and he was like oh my gosh that's like country girl so it didn't we didn't hit it off right away yeah we didn't even like go on a date until may of the next year so we just kind of hang out as friends for a few months and then we're like okay So it all ended up working out, but that was that was my first impression of him. a nerd yes he's still and he still is But.

The Amazing Rewatch: Wow. Okay. And I didn't really get to. like discover them until november of 2011 they were on the ellen show and i was just like home from school like class watching the Ellen show one day and I My life was changed forever. I was like.

You know, so to retreat, like... so it's like this drink place i mean if you're from utah you know what we're talking about if you're not from utah you maybe don't know but but utah has like a lot of just like soda shops.
The Amazing Rewatch: and there's one by our house and on the outside of the window they have like tip jars and it's like you vote with your tips which is better And the choices. The other day were One Direction and Justin Bieber.
The Amazing Rewatch: And Evie and Cece were like, what's One Direction? And I was like, oh no. Oh no. Don't say that in front of Sadie and Georgie. We'll have to educate them. Yeah. And we did start listening to a few One Direction songs and they recognize that's what makes you beautiful and like a couple and they were like, yeah, we like them. So yeah, you can. Have to do some listening. More listening, yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um... Other music that year, there's a lot of like Adele, Rihanna, Drake, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry. Pink. Um...
The Amazing Rewatch: Usher. We had some Luke Bryan. Eric Church, Carrie Underwood, Little Big Town. Coldplay. Nicki Minaj, things like that.
The Amazing Rewatch: taylor swift i think that was like right after speak now came out so she was Hitting her stride. She wasn't in the top 10 though. Really? That would not happen today. Mm -mm.
The Amazing Rewatch: Well... Was that all you had? yeah Okay, so I kind of talk about... Yeah. um, um events. World events. historical events.
The Amazing Rewatch: pop culture. So. Um, some things that I wrote down, we had Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee, which meant she had been... That was her 60th year of reign.
The Amazing Rewatch: Which is a long time. And then she still lived. Ten more years after that. Yeah. Maybe even more. i don't know I think she died in 20... One. Okay, for 22. Yeah, so.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah, about 10 more years. Um. Peace. let's see Madonna. Madonna headlined the halftime show.
The Amazing Rewatch: Okay. For the Super Bowl XLVI, which is. 540 For? What? What? XLVI.
The Amazing Rewatch: No 50 No.
The Amazing Rewatch: 46. Okay. okay It was the New York Giants. They beat the New England Patriots. Eli Manning got the VIP. MVP, not VIP.
The Amazing Rewatch: MPP. That happened. The Super Bowl was on my birthday. And I remember having my friends over. And also what happened on my birthday, which is way sadder, is Josh Powell.
The Amazing Rewatch: um killed himself and his two little boys on Super Bowl Sunday. Mm -hmm. And it was like the only thing that was on the news the next day. And I was like, oh, that's a depressing thing to happen on my birthday. That thing that case was crazy.
The Amazing Rewatch: Mm hmm. And the podcast cold. Was like the very first podcast I ever listened to. It's a very good one. It's an awful story, but it's very good. ah And just like kind local to us yeah too. It happened in Utah. so Um. Whitney Houston died.

The Amazing Rewatch: I love him. For what? for beginners. he was like old and he hadn't ever won before. So is it a... legacy oscar or did he actually i deserve it I don't know. I haven't seen that movie. but Um, best supporting actress was Octavia Spencer for The Help.
The Amazing Rewatch: And then... a Best animated feature was Ringo. I've never seen that one I haven't seen it all the way through. There were no Disney movies in that year. There's Kung Fu Panda 2 and Puss in Boots. Chico and Rita.
The Amazing Rewatch: were the other ones. Um, Best music. There was only... Two songs. no nominated for best original song. Hmm. And the one that won was Man or Muppet from the Muppets. Wow.

The Amazing Rewatch: season 20 what is actually happening in yeah season 20 so We are in Santa Barbara, California and Phil is riding a bike. along the road through vineyards. of Southern California. And, er, is Santa Barbara Southern? Yeah, it's like a little bit north of LA, like just up the coast.
The Amazing Rewatch: And all of the team. Teams are riding Peloton bikes behind him. Which is weird because... Then we get to the parts where the teams are waiting at the...
The Amazing Rewatch: starting line and they're not wearing their biking gear. Yeah, it was so. Just a staged Peloton ad. This is going to be interesting and different. Because they've never done that before. Yeah. So yeah, they ride in on their Peloton bikes, but they don't really.
The Amazing Rewatch: Anyways. anyways We have 11 teams. The first one is Dave and Cherie. I think it's sherry Dave and Sherry. Wow. Okay, Dave and Sherry. They're married clowns from Tampa, Florida.

The Amazing Rewatch: county Poor. area. Yeah. um Misa and Maya are sisters from San Diego California they are into golf one of them was actually a pro golfer Brendan and Rachel. They are recently engaged from L .A. They met on Big Brother and Rachel.
The Amazing Rewatch: One. that season. Season 13 I think. Joey Fitness and Danny, they're best friends from Long Island, New York. Um,
The Amazing Rewatch: I don't know why he's called joy fitness. I think he's part of like. He's like an influencer and kind of with the. Jersey Shore type of thing, but he's not. And on Jersey Shore, so. Yeah.

The Amazing Rewatch: trying to reconnect yeah Elliot and Andrew are twin brothers from Scottsdale, Arizona. One's a singer and one's a pro soccer player, and they have different haircuts, which is going to help us a lot. Yeah, because they're very identical. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: Carrie and Stacy, their first cousins from Mississippi. Have we had a cousin team before? I... That's not one that you get very often. Yeah, the cousins.
The Amazing Rewatch: um That were on... Oh, Myrna and Myr... Mirna and Shmirna. No, not that. Marla and... Sharla and Myrna. Yeah. Okay. um And then Vanessa and Ralph, they are a dating couple. They've been dating one year from San Antonio.
The Amazing Rewatch: And Art and JJ, they are border poltergeists. Border Patrol agents and friends from Southern California. So yeah, I remember...
The Amazing Rewatch: Bopper and Mark. Brendan and Rachel. Rachel and Dave, Elliot and Andrew, and Vanessa and Ralph and Art and JJ really well. Like they very much stand out to me.
The Amazing Rewatch: Which may be a sign of like... who's in the... top half of the teams because you typically remember the ones that... Or like... Who might be coming back for. Yeah. Another season.
The Amazing Rewatch: So, We have... A Dave and a Dave and a Rachel and a Rachel. Yeah. And a. Sherry. Carrie and Neri. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: So this is going to be fun. Interesting. They got to start getting eliminated. The winners of this first leg of the race will win an Express Pass. which has to be used before the eighth leg of the race. And the first task is there is a big vineyard right behind them. And there are these mini hot air balloons.
The Amazing Rewatch: Up in the sky that are tied to. the vines in the vineyard. There's 100 balloons, only 11 of them have clues. So you have to pull them down from the sky, look in the basket, get the clue.
The Amazing Rewatch: and continue racing. Get into the four tourists. The world is waiting for you. Good luck. Travel safe. Go. So they run into the vineyard start pulling the balloons down and looking for the clues in the baskets And.
The Amazing Rewatch: The twins, Elliot and Andrew, are the first one to grab the clue. And it says, fly to Santa Barbara. Which is confusing. because Yeah, because they're in Santa Barbara. But they get in their car.
The Amazing Rewatch: And it has a screen on the dashboard and it says, you are now heading to Santa Barbara, Argentina. First, make your way to LAX and the American Airlines check -in counter to pick up tickets to Buenos Aires.
The Amazing Rewatch: then Then only the first six teams will get tickets on the connecting flight to Salta. which is the closest airport to Santa Barbara. Yes. So. Six teams will get...
The Amazing Rewatch: Um, Tickets. I mean, the other five teams will obviously get tickets. but It is revealed that that flight is like two and a half hours later. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um, So the teams are you know finding these clues and heading to the airport. The last two teams left are Mark and Bopper and Misa and Maya, who are the sisters.
The Amazing Rewatch: And. The time elapsed says that they've been there for an hour and 44 minutes. Yeah, looking for... Yeah. And so Mark and Bopper find it first, leaving the sisters as the the last team there. Mark is like puking in the backseat of the car, like just hey hanging his head out the window and throwing up. And Bopper's like. We're not stopping. When money like this is on the line, we don't stop for anything. It's already sick to stomach. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: So and then we don't see any airport footage. They just tell us who was on that first b flight. Yeah, so that first flight, I have Elliot and Andrew. The twins.
The Amazing Rewatch: Brendan and Rachel, the... Big brother. engaged couple nary and jamie the Federal agents, Art and JJ, the... Border Patrol agents Rachel and Dave, the married...
The Amazing Rewatch: Military couple and Vanessa and Ralph. The. dating couple. So then two and a half hours behind are Bopper and Mark. Misa and Maya, the sisters, Joey and Danny.
The Amazing Rewatch: and dave and sherry the married clowns and carrie and stacy the cousins So when they land, they have to drive themselves to the sound the town of Santa Barbara and pick up the next clue. the first Six teams arrive there and it says, make your way to the.
The Amazing Rewatch: Aerodromo Gilberto Lev... The Q. Caffa Yeti. Yes. Which kind of has the word air in it. Yep. Um, So they get there. Art and JJ are the first to get that clue. And it's a roadblock. And it says who has a great sense of direction.
The Amazing Rewatch: Okay. And. So you think the person, like, they're... They kind of see that they're at like a... They say that they're at an airport. Airport. With little airplanes. And it says the roadblock. Who has a good sense of direction. These are talking about being afraid of heights and stuff. Yeah. And.
The Amazing Rewatch: You would think the person who chooses to do the roadblock would be jumping out of the plane, but actually... That teammate is going to be the one who drives... follows a map and drives to the landing zone. And and the other teammate has to jump out of the airplane. Yep.
The Amazing Rewatch: Very sneaky. yeah so This group, this first group of jumpers are JJ, Rachel and Rachel. And...
The Amazing Rewatch: The... So Art and Dave and Brendan go to the... March spa and wait for their team. Team members too. Jump. JJ lands first and They get the clue and it says, drive yourselves to... Patios de Cafete and search your ground the grounds for the next clue.
The Amazing Rewatch: JJ was not. excited to jump no Um, He... He was one of the only ones and then... like one other person a little bit later but everybody else seemed to be Pretty okay with it. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um. So Patios. Decafete. So what um area... Are we? yeah santa barbara is that like the region is that the town coffee what is that um Santa Barbara is in the far northwestern area of Argentina. It is.
The Amazing Rewatch: Not a city. It's kind of like a county. Um... has several small towns in a mountainous region, subtropical countryside.

The Amazing Rewatch: um It's on the eastern edge of the Andes. so um there's lots of like mountain ranges forested slopes valleys rivers subtropical lowlands it's hot and rainy And...

The Amazing Rewatch: And then Art and JJ are right behind them. And then there's... Team number four, Mary and Jamie. Number five are Vanessa and Ralph. And number six are Elliot and Andrew. Mm hmm. So at first, half of the Teams are all like done.

And as they're leaving, Misa and Maya see that they have their bags. They're like, oh, we're going to have to go get our bags. So it's not like a, because it was self -drive.
The Amazing Rewatch: So they're just in their own car that they brought. Yeah. But they have to have them with them to check in at the mat. Yeah. They don't have to like go out and pay a taxi or whatever, but. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: um David and Sherry, the... The clowns are team number eight. They were really worried. Because they kind of fell behind at the first part of the... um Leg and. She's like, we're not as fast and strong as these other, like, there's a lot of young teams. this season yeah um She's like, we're not as fast as strong. Or strong as them. So we can't. get behind like that but they did check in as team number eight and then mark and bopper are team nine Which leaves Joey Fitness and Danny.
The Amazing Rewatch: And Misa and Maya, they're doing the empanadas. And it gets wild. Yeah, so... Danny is really struggling with the... Empanada thing. And. Um,
The Amazing Rewatch: Misa and Maya actually end up passing off their empanadas before Joey and Danny. and they have to run back to their car and get their bag. yeah but joey and danny hear that they're like oh they have to go get their bags so they speed up then they have a few left And the girls get their bags. And they run in.
The Amazing Rewatch: And it's like a courtyard in the middle of this. Big. place. That Phil is waiting for them. And they. Run out of the doors into the courtyard. Yeah, they're like running around looking for him and they like go into that area where Phil is standing there and then they just like turn around. They don't see him. Yeah. And like Phil and the... Crew.
The Amazing Rewatch: are literally standing there looking right at them, filming them. Yeah, and Phil's face is like, oh my gosh, what is happening? He's like, did they not see us? And the... like the Argentinian greeter is like, where'd they go? Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: And. They turn back around and go... They're like, we have to go to the parking, the car area. So then Joey and Danny pass off. And they have their bags with them and they're running.
The Amazing Rewatch: And they go directly to Phil and they check in as team number 10. Yeah. And then Misa and Maya are still looking and they go back in the same area and they're like. They were right here this whole time. We were just right here. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: And Phil says... Well, I mean, he says you're last to arrive and you have been eliminated. And he says that that has never happened before. where yeah Like they were right there.
The Amazing Rewatch: And then ah they got passed up by another team. Yeah. which is Awful. Can you imagine just like the sick feeling you would have? Like we were standing right there. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: So awful. and They said they like they had tunnel vision. They were just like. mm -hmm Looking. So. hard that they weren't looking. At all. Yeah.
