00:00:14
Speaker
And hello, everybody.
00:00:16
Speaker
Thank you so much for listening to another episode of Prime Space.
00:00:23
Speaker
It's wonderful to have you here.
00:00:24
Speaker
And I have a surprise for you today.
00:00:26
Speaker
I'm not alone.
00:00:28
Speaker
I have a guest and a very, very, very special and dear guest, my friend, Amy Rupert Donovan.
00:00:36
Speaker
Hello, Amy.
00:00:37
Speaker
Hello.
00:00:39
Speaker
It is friend and colleague.
00:00:42
Speaker
Friend and colleague.
00:00:43
Speaker
Colleague and friend.
00:00:44
Speaker
Which one comes first?
00:00:45
Speaker
I don't know.
00:00:46
Speaker
I don't know.
00:00:47
Speaker
They're so intertwined, hard to tell.
00:00:48
Speaker
Yeah.
00:00:50
Speaker
That's fantastic.
00:00:51
Speaker
Amy, thank you so much for being here.
Meet Amy Rupert Donovan
00:00:54
Speaker
For those of you who are listening and getting to know Prime Coaching Academy, Prime Space, Elias, Amy, Amy and I have been working together for quite a few years now.
00:01:07
Speaker
And I don't know, Amy, I'm going to be
00:01:09
Speaker
We hit it off.
00:01:11
Speaker
Like a house on fire, Elias.
00:01:13
Speaker
I don't know.
00:01:14
Speaker
Some strange force brought us together.
00:01:17
Speaker
And it's, you know, we've been making history ever since.
00:01:20
Speaker
I know.
00:01:22
Speaker
And I am so delighted that we were able to make this partnership.
00:01:29
Speaker
And I so appreciate it.
00:01:32
Speaker
all the collaborations.
00:01:33
Speaker
And for those of you who are listening, Amy is, yes, she is my business partner.
00:01:39
Speaker
We've co-created Prime Coaching Academy.
00:01:42
Speaker
But Amy has become more than that.
00:01:44
Speaker
Amy is like, she is my, the person that refers me to Netflix shows and cooking recipes.
Dedication to Coaching Art and Science
00:01:54
Speaker
And we talk politics and we talk, we, we, we solve the problems of the world.
00:02:00
Speaker
Dating advice.
00:02:01
Speaker
Dating advice.
00:02:03
Speaker
Oh my God.
00:02:03
Speaker
Advise there.
00:02:07
Speaker
So lots happen when we come together and we have a lot of fun.
00:02:11
Speaker
And I think I hope that we are doing some good work as well.
00:02:15
Speaker
And we are very one one thing that it's so beautiful to see, Amy, is like we are we are very much in sync to our passion towards coaching.
00:02:27
Speaker
And what we want to bring and provide to the community.
00:02:32
Speaker
And this whole aspect of the focus on the art and the science of coaching and the balance between the art and the science, the form and the flow that I like to say, it's very dear to me and clearly very dear to you.
00:02:46
Speaker
And we have built our own, a whole program around this art and science of coaching.
00:02:51
Speaker
But let me say one thing to all of you that are listening and perhaps are not quite familiar with any.
00:02:58
Speaker
Amy is not just a long-time coach.
00:03:01
Speaker
She is one of the pioneers of the coaching industry.
00:03:06
Speaker
Do you know this little thing called like the ICF core competencies?
00:03:11
Speaker
This small thing that just happens to be the backbone of what we do, right?
00:03:17
Speaker
Right now, if you are new to coaching, you have what we call the updated version of the ICF core competencies that came out, I think, was, what was it, 2019, I believe?
00:03:28
Speaker
I don't remember.
00:03:29
Speaker
Yeah, yeah.
00:03:30
Speaker
Yeah, so this is the updated version that we have.
00:03:34
Speaker
But prior to that, the original version, which is not much different than what we have right now, it was the updated version is a stream like the language is a little bit more refined and clear.
00:03:49
Speaker
But the original version of the ICF Core Competencies is
00:03:54
Speaker
Who was one of the people there in the room creating those ICF core competencies?
00:04:00
Speaker
Of course, Amy Rupert Donovan.
00:04:01
Speaker
So I just want to point this out because...
00:04:05
Speaker
The ICF core competencies is truly the backbone of the coaching profession.
00:04:12
Speaker
Everything
The Birth of ICF Core Competencies
00:04:13
Speaker
that we do comes from these core competencies.
00:04:16
Speaker
Every aspect of what we do as a coaching industry, some way or another, comes from these core competencies.
00:04:25
Speaker
And here we have someone that was there in the room,
00:04:32
Speaker
coming together with other coaches and what in creating this.
00:04:36
Speaker
So Amy, I say this and I put a lot of emphasis there because I don't think it's possible for us to quantify the impact that you have made in the coaching industry at large to this day.
00:04:53
Speaker
Well, thank you for that, Elias.
00:04:56
Speaker
Of course, at the time we didn't know exactly
00:04:58
Speaker
Right.
00:04:59
Speaker
What we were creating, because it was at that time, eight schools that came together to create these.
00:05:08
Speaker
And there were a couple of representatives from each school.
00:05:12
Speaker
I think it was two from each school.
00:05:13
Speaker
So a total of 16 of us.
00:05:15
Speaker
And it wasn't just the core competencies.
00:05:18
Speaker
It was how do we measure them as well and and and monitor the effect effectiveness.
00:05:24
Speaker
How do you how do you gauge that right.
00:05:27
Speaker
So it was a big conversation.
00:05:31
Speaker
We had no idea where it was going to go, but we knew it was necessary for us to be a self governing profession.
00:05:42
Speaker
That's fantastic.
00:05:43
Speaker
And there you started together with all of these other coaches, you know, this is important work that we have that follows us to this day.
00:05:53
Speaker
So I thank you.
00:05:54
Speaker
Thank you for that.
00:05:56
Speaker
I wonder, Amy, how was it like back then?
00:06:01
Speaker
Uh huh.
00:06:03
Speaker
Well, back then, when we entered the room, so to speak, you know, metaphorically speaking, everybody was pretty well siloed at that point.
00:06:15
Speaker
Each school, we all thought we were doing our own thing.
00:06:18
Speaker
We had no idea how much crossover there was.
00:06:23
Speaker
And so everybody came into the room and
00:06:27
Speaker
kind of expecting to, and I don't want to use the word guard your turf, but to be able to, you know, elicit your own ideas and get them into the room, into what's going on.
00:06:40
Speaker
And we, you know, we started general conversations about things, but as time went on, what we learned was we were all doing the same thing.
00:06:50
Speaker
We just had different vernacular.
00:06:52
Speaker
Right.
00:06:53
Speaker
And so we had to learn, OK, let's what does this really mean when we say this?
00:06:58
Speaker
What does this really mean?
00:07:00
Speaker
And we took ourselves to task.
00:07:02
Speaker
And
Coaching's Role in Human Interaction
00:07:03
Speaker
and with that said, we we came up with the core competencies because we realized this was universal amongst all of us as to what we were doing and what we were up to.
00:07:15
Speaker
You know, I've heard you tell this story before and what I think it's remarkable about that and remarkable about all of these individuals, you included.
00:07:25
Speaker
is the openness that you at some point got to, okay, I may be verbalizing this differently.
00:07:36
Speaker
I may have very strong opinions about this particular way of doing things.
00:07:41
Speaker
However, can I stretch myself and listen to the other?
00:07:47
Speaker
Can I put myself in the position of learning from the other?
00:07:52
Speaker
Can I...
00:07:54
Speaker
be able to express what I am saying here differently?
00:08:01
Speaker
Can I see this through a different lens, through with, with a different light?
00:08:06
Speaker
That is huge to me, not only for coaching, but to me is huge for any group that comes together and remarkable that you were able to achieve that.
00:08:18
Speaker
Yeah.
00:08:19
Speaker
You know, I think,
00:08:21
Speaker
when we look at this at the end of the day, what this was, and I think this is what everybody feels when they learn what coaching is and they come into coaching, this is the way human beings are meant to interact.
00:08:38
Speaker
This is in our hearts and souls as human beings to collaborate in that way.
00:08:44
Speaker
Look at human history, right?
00:08:48
Speaker
Clans and groups of people always coming together throughout history in various ways and collaborating and working together and depending on one another to create and build something better and greater.
00:09:03
Speaker
Coaching, I think, is one of the best examples we have in the world
00:09:08
Speaker
of how human beings are intended to live in harmony together.
00:09:13
Speaker
Oh my gosh, we are going to encapsulate this last few seconds that you just said right now.
00:09:18
Speaker
And I'm going to be putting that on replay over and over again, because the,
00:09:25
Speaker
This is at the core of everything that we do.
Coaching's Global Impact
00:09:28
Speaker
Right.
00:09:28
Speaker
I keep saying to I just gave a presentation to ICF South Florida and we were talking about the core competency.
00:09:35
Speaker
Number three establishes and maintains agreement.
00:09:38
Speaker
And oftentimes, especially nowadays, when we talk about that particular competency, it's all about the markers and I need to ask this question.
00:09:45
Speaker
I need to ask.
00:09:47
Speaker
And I was I was sharing with with with the participants that if you pay attention,
00:09:53
Speaker
to what is behind this competency and what is behind these markers.
00:09:58
Speaker
This is about human interaction.
00:10:02
Speaker
Anything, if you want to write a book, if you want to have a speech, if you want to have a conversation with someone, if you want to have a relationship with someone, there needs to have an agreement.
00:10:10
Speaker
There needs to have an intentionality.
00:10:13
Speaker
That's what this is all about.
00:10:15
Speaker
So everything that we do in coaching is grounded, comes from the natural human interaction that we are all seeking.
00:10:28
Speaker
Thank you for that.
00:10:29
Speaker
And that's what happened in that room, right?
00:10:31
Speaker
We were all, you know, we came into this, we knew something remarkable was happening.
00:10:38
Speaker
When I found coaching, when everybody else at that time found coaching, we didn't know where it was going.
00:10:44
Speaker
There weren't many of us, but we knew there was something special going on here.
00:10:49
Speaker
I'll take you right up to present day.
00:10:51
Speaker
You know, at least you and I have worked
00:10:54
Speaker
with multiple organizational groups and taught them coaching, you can see people just sink into it like, yeah, this is the way we're intended to be.
00:11:05
Speaker
It just makes sense.
00:11:08
Speaker
And I look at so many things now that I've been in this coaching thing for almost 30 years.
00:11:15
Speaker
And I look at so many things in our world and I say, boy, just a couple droppers full of coaching into that mix would make such a difference.
00:11:23
Speaker
I was just watching something this morning about the epidemic of loneliness and isolation in our, or globally, globally, we have this.
00:11:33
Speaker
Wow, what if everybody had a coach?
00:11:35
Speaker
What would that look like?
00:11:37
Speaker
So there's so many things that coaching can address, but I think at the core of all of it, it's how we are intended to live in harmony as human beings.
00:11:50
Speaker
Thank you for this.
00:11:51
Speaker
Thank you for this reminder.
00:11:53
Speaker
I'm listening to you here and I'm thinking even within our industry today, how much of that
Conclusion and Farewell
00:12:01
Speaker
perhaps we have forgotten a little bit.
00:12:04
Speaker
And we need to remember, remind ourselves of what this is truly about, what we're here for.
00:12:12
Speaker
Thank you for reminding us and bringing us back to the core, anchoring us to the core of what we truly do here.
00:12:21
Speaker
And this beautiful mindset of the coaching profession.
00:12:26
Speaker
Thank you so much, Amy.
00:12:28
Speaker
And for all of you listening, Amy is going to be like the primary guest, the recurring appearance.
00:12:37
Speaker
I don't know how to put the title here.
00:12:39
Speaker
She is going to be showing up all the time because, as you can see, she has a lot to offer and a lot to share with us here.
00:12:47
Speaker
And so thank you so much for being here, Amy.
00:12:50
Speaker
And any final words you want to say today?
00:12:55
Speaker
No.
00:12:55
Speaker
You're going to have lots to say.
00:12:57
Speaker
Thank you.
00:12:58
Speaker
Thank you for being here.
00:12:59
Speaker
I'm not going anywhere, Elias.
00:13:00
Speaker
It's you and me, buddy.
00:13:01
Speaker
Yes, exactly.
00:13:04
