Speaker
Oh yeah, you're listening to your favorite show. The In Commonwealth podcast.

Meet the Hosts: Philip and Aaron

00:00:32
Speaker
I'm your host, Philip Ramsey. And Aaron Kramer. We're coming at you with a simple step. It's quick. It's five minutes. What are we going to talk about today? We're going to talk about your personality and maybe your IQ a little bit. Okay. All right. So the simple step is this.

Why Personality Types Matter

00:00:44
Speaker
I think it's important to understand your personality type. Yes. There's tons of different resources out there that will help you try to figure that out. But why do we think it's important to understand your personality? Because
00:00:56
Speaker
And it helps you know where you're strong, where you're weak, and how you can work with others so well. Right. And there's a ton out there, but understanding your strengths and your weaknesses is powerful. Yes. And understanding that your strengths are a complete superpower than somebody who doesn't have that. Yep. Right? So that's the thing that I think...
00:01:16
Speaker
I at least fall victim to is like, well, my, my strengths are not really that important, but there's somebody who's on the other side of like, I would die to have those kinds of strengths. Right. And so for example, uh, I would say I'd love to spell more, be better speller. And then maybe there's somebody who's like, I'm an amazing speller. I can't talk to people at all.
00:01:35
Speaker
I would flip you right away. So you always want what you can't have. These personality tests, again, there's millions out

Overview of Popular Personality Tests

00:01:41
Speaker
there. I don't know about millions. There's a lot of different personality tests that you can take. The popular ones that I would say is Meyer Briggs, Meyers Briggs. Yep. The disc profile. That's what I did. Five, big five personality tests.
00:01:55
Speaker
Um, there's an emotional intelligence test you can take up. There's a Caliper profile in the Christian circles. Enneagrams have been cool of different. What number are you? And everyone talks like what number are you? Um, in the past I've really struggled with personality tests because every time I take it, I, I can answer it a different way and it kind of gives me the thing.
00:02:14
Speaker
Okay. But for the most part, it helps, you know, like there's one, the strengths finder, what are your top five? I think you're kind of helpful just to understand how you're uniquely gifted. Yeah. And like things to watch out for. Cause I know, I know we did this when we're talking about this and I never told you it came from my personality test, but my personality test came out and said,
00:02:33
Speaker
don't take this personality's first ideas right away, because they're still brainstorming, it's their last ideas that you want to listen to. And so this one really sticks out to me, because my wife took this test too, and in her personality it said, she really hears the first few things that someone says. Oh wow, so you learned how to work together better.
00:02:57
Speaker
Yeah, because it was one of those things like me, I cannot brainstorm a heated conversation with my wife because she will hear the beginning and only the beginning. She won't hear the end after I finally processed it. But for leaders like you, like when we're doing things, if I have ideas, like I need to make sure I shut up, process your idea before I could waste your time with a bunch of like, you know, processing ideas.
00:03:25
Speaker
because you're going to be like, Oh, that's an idea. Like, and then I'll come back later. Like, no, I guess, nevermind. That's not a good idea. He'd be like, dude, I thought that's what we were doing. It's like, well, no idea, but I changed my mind.

Applying Personality Insights at Work

00:03:34
Speaker
Yeah. You know? Yeah. So that's cool application of just different personality tests just to know how you're uniquely gifted. The other thing that we talked about is like an IQ test and you put a lot of emphasis on your IQ test that you've taken your past. So give our listeners quickly a history of that. Yep. So I took my IQ test and came back right smack down the middle. I have nothing crazy, right?
00:03:56
Speaker
But that's the average number. So when you look at the other numbers, it's totally different. And that's really helps when you start looking at where your brain really works well and you can lean into that. Like spelling is not mine. It's super low. Brought my score way down. Yeah. Right.
00:04:12
Speaker
but there's other ones that scored higher than 90 percentile. And so, but it really helps show me like, okay, I need to lean in on these areas. So I'm not a genius by any means, but like I can lean in on some of these areas to really help me serve others. Yeah, on the flip side is maybe like, make sure you're surrounding with somebody that's good at these areas that you're not.

Strengths and Teamwork

00:04:33
Speaker
So that could be an example in this situation.
00:04:35
Speaker
I think the two kind of combinations, if we are telling people that you're your best asset, then like how can you understand a little bit more about how you're wired? I don't think that's a bad idea. And then also when you're working with a team, that's something that we should probably be doing. The six working geniuses is another one that I was kind of been looking at. But how do you all work together and how do you all integrate?
00:04:57
Speaker
and strengths and weaknesses and things like that. And so you can use your strengths as a superpower and you know the other person's weaknesses, but you have somebody else that maybe has that. If you're an athlete, it's one of those things. You know your techniques, it's easy to find out, but in the professional world, to figure out your brain, it's a little different. So the more information you have, the better.
00:05:17
Speaker
That's right. So that's
