We've we've been here for a while in podcast form but now you get to look at our beautiful tired

Arsenal vs Wolves Game Review

00:00:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
faces. ah So today is the Daily Arsenal Podcast, unfortunately we missed Monday's episode just because the schedules are hectic but we're here to review the game against Wolves. I'm your host, Josh Vint and I'm joined today by the phenomenal Jamie Patterson, Craig Matthews and Joshua Duncan. Gentlemen, we walked away from the Molyneux with a 1-0 victory. A bit of a result, but contentious moments which we'll get into in more detail. ah Jamie, how did you feel about the game as a whole?
00:00:54
Jamie
Um, to be honest with you, we, we'll discuss more about the, uh, the big talking points, but overall, I think we kind of just, we, we made it difficult for ourselves. We just made it difficult for ourselves. I kind of expected to go to Molyneux. Um, and again, you know, no disrespect to wolves. I kind of just thought that it would be a bit more straightforward, but we just, we just made the game difficult for ourselves.
00:01:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
We certainly did, yeah. i mean ah Josh, I don't know if... I didn't get to see it. I was doing a show at

Arsenal's Season Struggles: A Fan's Perspective

00:01:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
the time. But um did you manage to completely legally and totally morally watch the game?
00:01:38
Josh D
Unfortunately, I did. It was a pretty dull game, to be fair. You didn't miss much, to be fair. It was pretty boring. And what Jamie was saying, I don't know why he's surprised that all of our games have not been great, pretty much this whole season, especially with all the injuries.
00:01:52
Jamie
Eh.
00:01:53
Josh D
We've not really looked cut and thread up front. So one, I'll take it.
00:01:58
Jamie
Heh.
00:01:59
Josh D
I'll definitely take off at the weekend.
00:02:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh yeah, 100%. Craig, does it feel like it's a bit of a slog being an Arsenal fan at the moment? I mean, don't get me wrong, we're second, we're going well in the Champions League, but it feels like a bit of a slog watching these games sometimes, doesn't it?
00:02:15
Craig matthews
Sometimes you have to try to keep your eyes open just to watch the games one time. It's just like you feel like you're going to fall asleep. But I'm beating this 17 games now in the Premier League, if you ever want to do that. So it's not too bad. I haven't looked the last time the game he lost was against, like Bournemouth away.
00:02:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
There's no shame in that.
00:02:34
Jamie
yeah yeah yeah ridiculous
00:02:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
at the moment but Let's be honest.
00:02:35
Josh D
yeah
00:02:35
Craig matthews
I know, I know, I know, so.
00:02:36
Josh D
yeah not yeah
00:02:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, they've scored 10 goals in the last two games or something. Ridiculous Bournemouth. I'm not sure what Iriola has them drinking over there, but I would like some because I think it improves performance in every
00:02:45
Craig matthews
Yeah.

Wolves' Strong Performance Against Arsenal

00:02:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
way.
00:02:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah So, Jamie, wo wolves were threatening from the very beginning to be fair. like they I mean, you've had them pegged to go down the whole season, but they were threatening. I mean, Sarabia in the first few minutes, volleyed over the bar.
00:03:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
They were dangerous on the counter, weren't they?
00:03:02
Josh D
Yeah. Yeah, it's not.
00:03:04
Jamie
I mean I didn't see much of the game because I was all so out myself but from what I saw on Match of the Day the fact that Wolves kind of wolves kind of really just went at us and it was just a bit of a shock to the system.
00:03:05
Josh D
Yeah.
00:03:18
Jamie
I don't know why Arsenal kind of see it as a shock to the system because you know we've
00:03:24
Jamie
like you said it's been a real slog like it really has been it's just it's not been comfortable and I know yes we've had our injuries and you know a few people have said to me oh but your injuries aren't that bad and so on and so on and I'm like well you know You've got to look at the injury list and at the minute, you know, it seems like we're, seems like we're just about

Is Arsenal's League Position Justified?

00:03:47
Jamie
coping.
00:03:47
Jamie
It's the fact that you say that we sit here and we're second in the league, that just, that sounds just mental in itself, given the circumstances we've been in.
00:03:53
Craig matthews
Okay.
00:03:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Josh, does it feel like we should be? like Do you think the performances deserve our position currently?
00:04:05
Josh D
Um, you can't really argue with the results really. I mean, you know, the reason why we're on being a couple of games. Um, I think it's more reflection on the rest of the league. I mean, Chelsea, I think everyone won a game in God knows when things that five or six and they were kind of, we'll kind of compete in second with them forest again, then dreamland, you know, the and then, um, who also, I think CEO and fourth now.
00:04:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah.
00:04:29
Jamie
city, I believe, a fourth year.
00:04:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
CER in fourth, yeah.
00:04:30
Josh D
Yeah, they fourth night.
00:04:30
Craig matthews
Yeah.
00:04:32
Josh D
And they've been out of roller coaster season as well. So i think I think we do deserve second. I think Liverpool have shown that this season, there they're the ones to kind of really beat.
00:04:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
they really are aren't they I mean they've only lost one game so far to be fair we've only lost two but we've drawn a lot more than they have although if you look at the form of the last six games exactly the same Arsenal and Liverpool both four wins and two draws so we're keeping pace we just can't get to them.
00:04:53
Josh D
Yeah.
00:04:54
Jamie
Yeah.
00:05:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now, i'm Craig, I wanted to save this question for you because I've asked this of Josh too many times and I don't want to upset him.

Kai Havertz's Role and Missed Opportunities

00:05:08
Josh D
Yeah.
00:05:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Kai Havertz had three headers, which were good opportunities.
00:05:10
Jamie
ah ae
00:05:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
All three of the headers were good opportunities. There was two wide. One, he was on target, but he was offside. he His strength's not in the air, is it really, Craig?
00:05:24
Craig matthews
Nah, I don't know what his strengths are. He's got to hold up the ball. That's about. I don't always know what it's about. I don't want to be horrible about. I don't know man. I don't know.
00:05:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Josh, he doesn't want to be horrible. Do you want to be?
00:05:36
Jamie
Oh, alright.
00:05:37
Craig matthews
yeah
00:05:37
Josh D
He's he useless man, he's... I haven't got time for him, honestly. Do you know what it is? Yeah, I get he's not a number nine, but quite frankly, he's not a number eight too.
00:05:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
No.
00:05:48
Josh D
Where do you play him?
00:05:49
Josh D
You know, honestly, like, if you're going for the titles, you can't have someone like Kaihab that's up front.
00:05:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
no
00:05:55
Josh D
It's just not, you know, it's near, it's not, it's not something you, you know, you look at that and you think, ah, yeah, that's a hard day.
00:05:56
Craig matthews
No, definitely not.
00:06:02
Josh D
You look at Kaihab at that front and you think, you know, any defender you think, you know, yeah, you know, I've got a bit of a needs day and he's not really gonna do anything.
00:06:09
Craig matthews
165 million is like, you could have got somebody cheaper than that. um Who could do to could do the same job, maybe better. I would think there was somebody who could have done a job that he's supposed to be doing, so it's a bit.
00:06:21
Craig matthews
frustrating at times when it doesn't do well as frustrating the team because we could only be three or four. The goal is to be three or four up.
00:06:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm, and it's slightly concerning that we're at what is the 27th of January now
00:06:29
Craig matthews
so
00:06:29
Josh D
Yeah.
00:06:30
Craig matthews
yeah
00:06:33
Jamie
I feel like you're going to say exactly what i'm got what

Arsenal's Transfer Market Dilemmas

00:06:36
Jamie
I was about to say. go um The fact that we are we're recording this on a Monday, it is the 27th of January, Friday is deadline day, and we still haven't signed anybody. The fact that we are actively searching, how long does it take to actively search for someone? There are, look, I know for a fact, yeah, that
00:06:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Say it Jamie say it Anyone anyone
00:07:04
Jamie
yeah for me right I've kind of and I've said it's my girlfriend I've not bothered to like read into any of the rumors but when I'm sitting there on Sky Sports and you're hearing the likes of Kunya, you're hearing Sesco, your Keres just any striker at this point yeah literally any striker um it's just look I know that there's gonna be a lot of talk of well
00:07:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's basically any striker.
00:07:31
Jamie
they'd rather prefer to come in the summer. And I mean, again, with the whole, when I mentioned about Zuba Mende, obviously, again, you know, Arsenal wanted to get that kind of done in the, done now, but unfortunately they, you know, would probably have to wait till summer.
00:07:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
no
00:07:44
Jamie
But the thing is, it is, ah I've said it before, and I'm going to say it again, it we will do a last minute panic buy. I can see it 31st on that Friday, we will go and sign someone, don't know who it is, but it will be a last minute buy.
00:08:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Deliali from Como, I can see it now.
00:08:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Arteta likes to try and revitalize players who are done. that's I can't think of a better player
00:08:08
Jamie
Let's play.

Controversial Red Card Discussion

00:08:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
who's done.
00:08:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Now, We will discuss the big talking point in the next section, but Josh, there was a second red card. Jal Gomez in the second half ah received the second yellow for what I think was a straight red challenge.
00:08:27
Josh D
Hehe.
00:08:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
If you look at what and MLS did earlier in the game, and again, we'll look at that in more detail, I would say that Jal Gomez's tackle on Saliba was
00:08:32
Josh D
Hehe.
00:08:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Higher, worse and more aggressive and later. What did you make of that tackle like and the red card incident with Gomez?
00:08:46
Josh D
Um, I mean, if you, it was back in the days, you know, that'd probably be a fair tackle, you know, if it's going to do, but I mean, if, if, if the, if our one was a red straight red, then I don't know that definitely a straight red.
00:08:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:08:58
Josh D
You know, there's a question now, what is a straight red now?
00:09:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm.
00:09:01
Josh D
Cause it's like referees don't know what they're doing. You know, I mean, I'm happy you got sent off in the end and we kind of grew into the game afterwards, but yeah, it's, it's not a good look for them at the moment.
00:09:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's not. And in fact, in tomorrow's episode, we're going to be doing a bit of a deeper dive on refereeing and just talking about the real the real problems that there have been this season. But Craig, it wasn't all doom and gloom. Late on in the game, our Italian Maestro, who's come in at defence, came in after MLS was taken off. Calafiori, first time left-footed strike into the bottom corner from a Martinelli cross and a defensive clearance. It was a good finish, wasn't it, from Ricciardo?
00:09:40
Craig matthews
It was a neat finish, very good finish, tidy. It was a very good finish. It's a good, as I said, one note to the Arsenal. The Arsenal, I say.
00:09:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, if only Havertz could finish like that as well. We'd be in a much better position I feel like.
00:09:53
Craig matthews
but that Maybe that's the top position, maybe it happens to be a left-back in California.
00:09:54
Josh D
Everyone's saying no.
00:09:59
Josh D
Oh, good, no.
00:10:00
Jamie
Oh, he did.
00:10:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Didn't Havertz score for Germany at left back?
00:10:02
Craig matthews
He did, he did, he did last year, he did, he did.
00:10:02
Josh D
Oh, good, no.
00:10:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, he did. Josh, maybe that's it. Maybe he's a left. I think Craig might be on the other side there.
00:10:10
Josh D
this dismiss
00:10:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's a left back through and through. Right. Well, that's it for the main event because let's be honest in the game, there weren't really that many events as Josh said earlier. It was a bit of a rubbish game. When we come back, we will talk about that moment.
00:10:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we'll be back just after this message from our partners at Zencaster.

VAR Inconsistencies Impacting Arsenal

00:10:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
and welcome back to the Daily Arsenal Podcast brought to you on the Global Sports Podcast Network. It's part two of our review of our 1-0 victory over Wolves at the Molyneux and it's time to talk about the Miles Lewis Skelly red card towards the end of the second half. um What I want to start off with gents before we get into a discussion about it is PGMO PGMOL says the foul which resulted in Miles Lewis Skelly's controversial red card during Arsenal's win at Wolves was high and extremely late.
00:11:31
Jamie
See you.
00:11:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Arteta then came out and said it is that clear that I leave it to you guys. I am absolutely fuming but I leave it with you because it is that obvious I don't think my words are going to help.
00:11:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Jamie, what the hell
00:11:51
Jamie
You know what, it's, I don't get it. Like, I actually just don't get it. The fact that also, you know, how normally we, you know, we get to hear like what VAR was saying in the background in the buildup and stuff like that.
00:12:06
Jamie
They wouldn't even release it.
00:12:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
No.
00:12:07
Jamie
They won't release it. They won't even release it to the media. does that not say a lot does that really not say a lot and you know what again consistency and it's always arsenal and I'm sorry I'm sorry if people of other clubs might be sitting here thinking but it's not always arsenal trust me it is I'll come to that realization now that consistency and arsenal don't go hand in hand Saka said it after
00:12:34
Craig matthews
Thank
00:12:34
Jamie
I believe you Brighton. he he said it After the Brighton game he said right, all our what all we want is consistency and unfortunately that's what we don't get. ah yeah I kind of sat there and thought, yellow card, surely yellow card.
00:12:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mmm, yeah. It seemed like a yellow card.
00:12:50
Jamie
We're watching back, I thought, yeah, yellow card, fair enough. you know I don't get how he could be the last man, I don't get how that was dangerous. Obviously going back to go to the Gomez red, I mean Gomez yellow card, that was a straight red. I mean, if he wasn't on a yellow, that would have been a straight red. But I don't know if you guys had seen, and ah there was a video of Trossard turning around to Gomez saying um ah something along the lines of like, don't be surprised, he's done it to me before, when he gave the first yellow card.
00:13:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
really so it does pass it along to us yeah
00:13:24
Jamie
yeah if i can find the video i'll yeah i'll see if i can try and find it but um yeah
00:13:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
it It does seem as though we're the trendsetters for disciplinary issues at the moment, which is something we will talk about tomorrow. um Josh, I read earlier a Sky Sports news bulletin, which was written by Sky Sports's Sam Blitz, which has five issues with Louis Skelly's red card. He picked out five. I'd like to go through them. I want to start with your opinion on this. He was 70 yards from his own goal. 70 yards. Right. It wasn't a goal scoring opportunity.
00:13:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah yeah PGMOL classes serious foul play as a tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality. Cynical, yes, but it's extremely hard to make the argument that Lewis Skelly's challenge endangered Docherty's safety, or that he used excessive force or brutality. I also want to ask you about VAR, because that's his second point. VAR gave it.
00:14:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
VAL gave it. You watched the game live. How quickly was that decision made?
00:14:32
Josh D
um Before I get into that, you know um I think there's been issues with Michael, Oliver, and them attacking a person. We're all frustrated with referees, but you know we don't condone all of that.
00:14:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. No, of course not.
00:14:44
Josh D
but you know i I watched it and I just thought, yeah, yellow. you know i did it i've I've probably done those tackles all the time.
00:14:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:14:53
Josh D
that I think that happens in football. Every game you see that. ah it's not It's just a late challenge. It's not a great one.
00:14:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:14:59
Josh D
I'll give you that. It's not a great one. But it's not dangerous. It's not malicious. He just missed the guy. That's it. He just missed the guy. The guy got past him. He nicked past him quickly.
00:15:06
Jamie
Alright.
00:15:06
Josh D
He got his leg out. He legs trailing. And he caught him. That's it. That's literally it. I don't know how it's dangerous. it's not Again, it's not a great tackle. He didn't win the ball. you know but It's not dangerous.
00:15:17
Josh D
I don't understand how that's a straight red and with Michael Oliver I don't know what is with apparently he's meant to be our the best referee in England, right? But when it comes to Arsenal, there's always him.
00:15:27
Josh D
I don't know it's buts it's been him this season It's been him last season and it's him him the season before that, you know I'm pretty sure he's the guy that always sent on Jack off, you know this I don't I don't get you know, I don't understand.
00:15:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
No. Yeah.
00:15:39
Josh D
It's like with the referee decision It's like whatever decision they make they just back their friends, you know, it's like They don't point out clear obvious errors. And it's just, look, he's human. I get he's human.
00:15:50
Josh D
You know, we all make mistakes, but the AR is there to rectify the fight their mistakes.
00:15:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly.
00:15:54
Josh D
And that's why I find it getting frustrated.
00:15:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's exactly what I wanted to talk about next. Craig, Michael, obviously Josh made a really good point. People have gone after Michael Oliver in quite an unpleasant way. Don't get me wrong. A lot of people are upset about the result and the situation, but it's no reason to be threatening a man or his family or anything like that.
00:16:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
After all, this is a game of football.
00:16:15
Josh D
Yeah.
00:16:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
everybody makes mistakes. But exactly as Josh just said there, that's what VAR is for. And I think that's exactly what Shira said on Match of the Day as well, that VAR is there to sort these problems out.
00:16:24
Jamie
yeah
00:16:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Craig, what on ah like i I do struggle with this one because Josh just said it wasn't a malicious attack. It wasn't a malicious challenge. What do you make of the fact that VAR didn't pick up on it?
00:16:41
Craig matthews
I play football on Sunday and Saturdays as well sometimes. And I have to say that that was not a real card. He made a run. In another one scene to make a run, he just tripped on one. Just tripped on the spot for counter-attack. That's all he did. It wasn't like he's spotted the guy in his ankle. He was in the little trip, and he went down the reference board red card. I think he said, if he had a couple of minutes to think about it before he made the red decision, it'd be better. He was ready. You see what he had in his pocket. He was ready to give the red card straight away. He didn't think one second, second more, two seconds more to fit. Let me analyze it in my head, I think. It was really a dangerous play.
00:17:14
Craig matthews
It wasn't a dangerous play because the player got up afterwards anyway. It was like was like okay. So, um yeah.
00:17:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
junk. I literally watched the highlights before we recorded this. Docketty looks surprised.
00:17:26
Craig matthews
The whole team, both keep it surprised.
00:17:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Docket, like, yeah.
00:17:29
Craig matthews
Both teams were shocked. They were like, let's not red card.
00:17:30
Josh D
is
00:17:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
it It was remarkable honestly remarkable to see. um The last thing we'll mention about this, Jamie, I want to get your opinions on um Arsenal fan Micah Richards, um a well-known Arsenal fan.
00:17:42
Josh D
like
00:17:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Michael Oliver, I like him, I think he's a top referee, I do. I understand the scrutiny they're under, I understand it. But that is the worst decision I've ever seen in Premier League football history and I stick by it. Worst decision you've ever seen, Jamie?
00:18:04
Jamie
oh i wouldn't say worst but it's it's up there that that's the thing it is it's it's up there i mean i i completely agree with the statement that you know look we you know we're all human we all make mistakes but like jd has said you know var is there to rectify it and the fact that var didn't even rectify it is what makes it worse and the thing is Again, a lot of Arsenal fans are going to jump onto Michael Oliver, but hold on a minute.
00:18:35
Jamie
Why are we not jumping onto VAR?
00:18:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
it was Darren England, wasn't it?
00:18:39
Jamie
There you go.
00:18:39
Craig matthews
a
00:18:39
Josh D
yeah
00:18:40
Jamie
Yeah, it was there in England.
00:18:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, Darren England.
00:18:40
Josh D
yeah
00:18:41
Jamie
Yeah. So why are we not jumping onto Darren England all of a sudden? I mean, again, I'm not condoning that. Everyone should just now run to Darren England, but again, you know, we, how long have we had VAR now in the prem for about two, three, two years, three years, maybe coming to and
00:18:48
Josh D
Yeah, yeah.
00:18:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is that two years?
00:18:55
Josh D
It's like a green, isn't it?
00:18:55
Craig matthews
yeah yesmo bri Three years years, three years now, three, four years now, I think it is, yeah.
00:18:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Three, yeah.
00:18:58
Josh D
free Yeah, it's very, yeah. Yeah, it's been a while.
00:19:00
Jamie
you would think right with VAR right the first season you know you're going to expect some mistakes the second season you you're going to you know maybe start ironing out the creases a little bit and the third season of VAR you'd think all right you know what
00:19:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're on it.
00:19:16
Jamie
We're a bit more on it now. We should be a bit more consistent. But again, we're still seeing you we're still seeing human errands. And the thing is, it you know it's not even in Arsenal games.
00:19:28
Jamie
We've seen it in plenty of other games this season, unfortunately.
00:19:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:19:32
Jamie
And again, you know if we're going to go into a fourth, year if we're going to go into next season with the same issues, then we've really got to sit down.
00:19:43
Jamie
like The Premier League and and football as a whole have really got to sit down and think, well, is VAR really the right way? Is the right direction forward?
00:19:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:19:52
Jamie
Is it the right direction forward or not?
00:19:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, this is exactly what we're gonna talk about in

Premier League Round-up

00:19:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
tomorrow's episode. So make sure to come along and listen in as well as a little European look and preview.
00:19:58
Jamie
okay
00:20:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
But to round this section off, I wanna finish off with mike the rest of Micah's comments. I don't like using the word disgrace because I feel like it's easy to throw that word about.
00:20:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
But if you look at the magnitude of that decision, it was so poor and for them to double down on the decision, I just think it's shocking. And on that, we're going to stop talking about Arsenal versus Wolves.
00:20:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we are going to take a little break. We're going to hear a message from the Global Sports Podcast Network. And when we come back, we're going to have a little look at the results from around the rest of the Premier League, because there were some big ones this week.
00:20:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think the boys know exactly what I'm talking about.
00:20:38
Craig matthews
if ha
00:20:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't know whether to start with that one or end with that one. I think we might end with that particular one. So we'll be back just after this break.
00:21:02
Jamie
Ha ha ha ha.
00:21:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
And welcome back to the final part of this daily Arsenal podcast episode. We've been talking about Arsenal vs Wolves and now we're going to talk about the results from around the rest of the Premier League this week. And we're not going to talk about all 10 games because we'll be here forever. But there's a few that I want to in particular, you know, have a little bit of a look at. But we're going to start at the Amex Stadium. um Josh, I'm pretty sure, did you have Everton to go down as well?
00:21:54
Josh D
uh yeah i changed it i think i followed you and changed it yeah so good man
00:21:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
me yeah Well, dave David seems to be getting a tune out of them because they beat Brian Hove Albion after beating Spurs last week. We love you, Everton. They beat Brian and Hove at the Amex. A hell of a feat for them.
00:22:16
Josh D
Yeah, Brian didn't play well. They just didn't get into tune. And then when they tried to have a bit of passion to play, it was a bit too late. It wasn't a good performance before them for them.
00:22:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Do you feel as though, have Brighton stagnated a bit? Because they were such a force a couple of seasons ago.
00:22:33
Josh D
um No, because I think this season they've had some good results as well. and I know this because and they've helped me with some of my bets. so I wouldn't say so. I think it was just a bad day out of office for them.
00:22:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fair enough. I mean, I quite like Herzler as well. Like, you know, he came from St. Paulie, did really well getting them promoted since the Bundesliga. He's a good manager. I hope they keep doing well, but Everton, do you reckon they've got it to survive now? they seem i mean They've won two games in the bounce, two hard away games as well.
00:23:04
Josh D
Uh, yeah, I think, I think they're all right. I think David might've got a steady pair of hands. You know, he's not flashy or anything like that, but he gets a job done. I don't understand why West Ham, you know, they've got, they've got rid of him like that.
00:23:15
Josh D
I'm not being funny, but like West Ham, you lot, you lot being seven or eight, wherever you are. That's a good, that's a good season for you. You need to like, yeah, they need to know where they are.
00:23:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's really good season.
00:23:24
Josh D
You know what I mean?
00:23:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
what The Premier League is so competitive now like they should be happy with that.
00:23:30
Josh D
Yeah.
00:23:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
They should be very happy We can't be because we're better than them, but they should be um Craig City 3-1 against Chelsea at the Etihad Their new defender made a little bit of a mistake in the batch, you know a little bit mistake Gave away the first goal effectively, but I mean they look as though they might be back on form Would you make a city at the moment?
00:23:44
Josh D
Yeah.
00:23:56
Craig matthews
top form now. That Monmoose guy they got from um Frankfurt. He looks like a decent player as well. Couldn't be KDB replacement. He looks like he can play that position as well. That's behind Harlan.
00:24:08
Craig matthews
Kind of rotating all three of them on Foden, Bernarda Silva, banardda silver and of him the all rotating in that game. Leaving Harlan off top by himself. Yeah.
00:24:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is there any city player who's impressed you quite a lot this season?
00:24:23
Craig matthews
all Not really.
00:24:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Josh laughing because there's no there's one there's one who I've spoiled Savino I think looks a very good player the young winger Mr..
00:24:28
Craig matthews
Not really.
00:24:31
Craig matthews
I think Macatee that's good as well. He's got a couple of goals the other day as well. He looks all right. He looks decent. yeah not
00:24:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Duncan not not convinced
00:24:46
Josh D
He's got the talent there but this season I'm pretty, I'll expect more from him to be fair.
00:24:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, he's only young in it, but but I do get what you mean. He came for a lot of fanfare and a lot of hype.
00:24:55
Josh D
You're in the city team.
00:24:56
Craig matthews
Okay.
00:24:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:24:57
Josh D
There's no, you know what I mean? You've got, there's no better team to get into and play your football there.
00:24:59
Jamie
No excuse, basically.
00:25:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
hard to break into but no you are right um Jamie we mentioned them a little bit earlier Bournemouth are on a tear absolute beating Nottingham Forest 5-0 after forests have been one of the hardest teams to break down Bournemouth go and spank them
00:25:12
Jamie
Wow.
00:25:19
Jamie
Yeah.

Bournemouth's European Ambitions

00:25:22
Jamie
I mean, Bournemouth have been really the surprise package of this season. You know, the fact that they've come off beating Newcastle as well. um They've gone and beaten Forrest. I mean, the push for Europe really is on now.
00:25:39
Jamie
The push for Europe really is on now. um They've got some great players. they've They have got some really good players. I mean, I know that they're without two two of their strikers, I believe.
00:25:52
Jamie
I think it's like Unal and Evan Ilsen, I believe.
00:25:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Both out.
00:25:58
Jamie
um But Watara, I mean, since he's kind of like stepped into that role, he's not stopped, has he?
00:26:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's been a phenom. And I mean, if we talk about the European push, as you just said, they're in seventh currently with 40 points. In Europe, Manchester City in fourth place have 41 points.
00:26:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
There is one point between fourth and seventh place.
00:26:21
Jamie
Yeah. That's crazy.
00:26:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyone from City, Newcastle, Chelsea and Bournemouth are in real contention for that fourth position. And then Villa are only three points behind that as well.
00:26:33
Josh D
No.
00:26:34
Jamie
We're in. I'm telling you, the race for Europe this season is going to be so, so good.
00:26:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's going to be great, isn't it? Now, boys, let's stop teasing everybody. Let's get to the point.

Tottenham's Struggles and Managerial Speculations

00:26:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
There are a few games around the rest. Brentford beat Palace 2-1. West Ham Villa won all-draw United, got away with it at Fulham, 1-0 victory. Liverpool beat Ipswich, whatever. ah Newcastle beat Southampton 3-1, which means that Southampton have officially got the i mean they did anyway beforehand but they've officially got the worst form in the league at the moment. Six losses from their last games. Quick question, gents. Who do you think's got the next worst form in the last six games?
00:27:16
Craig matthews
Our beloved rivals, our beloved noisy neighbours, Tottenham.
00:27:17
Josh D
time.
00:27:19
Jamie
Hold on, go on each hand.
00:27:20
Josh D
and
00:27:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Southampton have six losses in six games. Spurs have five and a draw. They were beaten by Leicester! Leicester! Two, one. Beaten by Leicester City. Who have been, let's be honest Josh, absolutely rubbish.
00:27:40
Josh D
Yeah, I mean, them getting their history and ah I didn't get it really, you know, didn't make sense.
00:27:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
No.
00:27:45
Josh D
You you know, when you're at the bottom, like that, you find out for survival, you want you want a steady pair of hands, you know, you you want a David Moyes, you know, you want somebody who's going to set, you know, just set he set you up to just not talk and Right.
00:27:59
Josh D
Well I'll talk to them, I think I'll talk to them in a different way right now, you know what I mean?
00:28:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
They really could.
00:28:02
Craig matthews
We'll be back.
00:28:04
Josh D
i just don get i don't honestly yeah Honestly, I woke up this morning and I was thinking surely he and just sat now, surely this is enough is enough now.
00:28:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
he's
00:28:13
Jamie
Do you know what?
00:28:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's... still job. still got a job. Go on, Jamie.
00:28:19
Jamie
I'm going to be so honest with you guys. I think they're going to keep Ange and if if they go out of the semi-final, that's where he'll go. That's where he'll get the sack.
00:28:30
Jamie
I can see it. I can literally already see it happening.
00:28:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah I wouldn't be surprised. I think the League Cup is probably, well, it's the only thing they've got left, isn't it?
00:28:40
Jamie
Yeah.
00:28:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
right on that They're in what? The Europa League. And they're doing all right.
00:28:43
Josh D
Yeah, anyway, please.
00:28:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
They're doing all right in the Europa League, but you know, it's a farmer's league. Who cares about it, really? So their last Premier League games, right? Lost 2-1 to Leicester, lost 3-2 to Everton, lost 2-1 to us, ah lost 2-1 to Newcastle, drew to all with Wolves, lost 1-0 to Forest.
00:29:01
Josh D
Don't find no... Don't find no time happening, isn't it, after that?
00:29:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sorry? um Lost 6-3 to Spurs. The last Premier League win was 5-0 against Southampton.
00:29:11
Josh D
and Yeah... No...
00:29:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:29:13
Jamie
When was that?
00:29:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah That was Sunday the 15th of December.
00:29:17
Josh D
Yeah, it was a wild. It was over, Mum.
00:29:18
Jamie
but So they they've not had a win in 2025.
00:29:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
That was a... Not in the league. Not in the league, yeah. So, I mean, I agree with you, Josh. I don't understand how he's still in a job.
00:29:29
Josh D
I love it.
00:29:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
I thought... I genuinely thought...
00:29:32
Jamie
I'm also here for it. I'm here for it as well.
00:29:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hey, long mate and drain, but I genuinely thought I'd wake up on Monday morning, look at my phone and be like, anthropostocography sacked by splinters.
00:29:42
Jamie
No, no, no.
00:29:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I'll be like, yeah, all right fair enough. It's happened. But no, like, although a lot of the fans seem to be more angry at Levy, didn't they?
00:29:53
Jamie
Yeah, I think there was a banner at full time showing, what was it like?
00:29:53
Josh D
Yeah.
00:29:53
Craig matthews
well
00:29:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, let's just.
00:29:57
Josh D
Yeah.
00:30:00
Jamie
I think it was like 20, I don't know if it was like 24 years or something, X amount x amount of managers, um one trophy and and so on and so on, like leave leave you out or something, yeah.
00:30:10
Josh D
yeah
00:30:13
Craig matthews
um I've got it here. 24 years, 16 managers, one trophy, five for teams.
00:30:17
Jamie
That's it, yeah, that's the one.
00:30:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
you know what Spurs fans, I couldn't disagree with you more. Stick with him, you never know when things might improve.
00:30:23
Craig matthews
I'm sorry.
00:30:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just keep that train rolling.
00:30:29
Jamie
what what's their it What's their motto? What what is it? The dare is to do.
00:30:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
The dare is to do something like that.
00:30:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
sir Exactly.
00:30:37
Jamie
The dare is to do.
00:30:38
Jamie
I'll tell you what the dare is to do.
00:30:38
Josh D
So then I thought I'd a rubbish anyway.
00:30:39
Jamie
The dare is to keep going on and on and on this on this woeful run.
00:30:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:30:43
Josh D
that You know, I don't understand, though. I mean, they sat merino for less than this.
00:30:46
Jamie
um
00:30:48
Josh D
He got them to um ah yeah the cut final, you know, and then they sat him.
00:30:51
Jamie
He did, yeah.
00:30:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah!
00:30:53
Josh D
And the guy Lester, I'm not Lester, Forrest, Forrest, sorry.
00:30:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, no, no, no,
00:30:57
Josh D
They sat him for less. Yeah, they sat him for less. I mean, what is and yeah what what what is and doing here that they think, you know what?
00:31:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
connte
00:31:01
Jamie
You know, do you know what's funny?
00:31:05
Josh D
He's our guy. Yeah, I love him. He's our guy. what wait What is it? I don't get it.
00:31:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
no i no no, it was your point Jamie, you had that.
00:31:11
Jamie
Well, it's funny because the managers that you've just mentioned, like, you know, Nuno and Marino, they've now ended up, like I saw an Instagram post, uh, where I think, I think I know the one, yeah, where like they've left, they've left Spurs and they've gone on to do so much better at their next club.
00:31:20
Josh D
yeah i'll so it too
00:31:23
Craig matthews
Yeah.
00:31:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, what? Mourinho's second in the Turkish league with Fenebache.
00:31:33
Jamie
There you go.
00:31:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Espirito Santos is third in the prem with Forest.
00:31:37
Jamie
Mm-hmm.
00:31:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Conte is first in Serie A with Napoli.
00:31:42
Jamie
There you go.
00:31:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Spurs, let's have a quick look at the table, shall we?
00:31:46
Jamie
Yeah, I was just about to.
00:31:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ah, the bottom. We've got to scroll down a bit to find them.
00:31:50
Jamie
Oh, they're not in the spot. Oh, yeah, forgot.
00:31:51
Josh D
ah
00:31:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
They are 15th.
00:31:53
Josh D
you' Right? Yeah.
00:31:55
Jamie
Wow.
00:31:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
15th with 24 points. Everton are one point behind them and they are only with a game in hand and they are only eight points above the drop eight I Mean if you look at I've just got their next their February fixture list upright Brentford away
00:32:02
Jamie
with a game at hand.
00:32:09
Josh D
What question?
00:32:09
Jamie
come on i I was just looking at their February fixtures as well.
00:32:10
Josh D
What question? Yeah, I literally gonna ask, ah are they actually in a relegation about like, all jokes aside, do you read anything they are? Because it doesn't look great.
00:32:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:32:27
Josh D
Tough match.
00:32:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Villa oh no that's the FA Cup so at this rate I don't I see them losing to Brentford probably losing to United as well
00:32:29
Jamie
Spurs united at home, then they go away to Ipswich on the 22nd and then at the end of February they host Man City.
00:32:37
Josh D
Wow.
00:32:39
Craig matthews
Well, they always beat my city. They always beat my city anyway. So no matter when that game, um maybe they're lucky again to win.
00:32:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
because Amarin will have a 63-year-old goalkeeping coach on the wing instead of Marcus Rashford. And it'll be smashing it out. It's which they can probably get a result there. I think Citi will do them.
00:33:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
I can see them getting three points in February. I'd say that's, and then if teams around them pick up points, that is a relegation battle.
00:33:05
Craig matthews
wall
00:33:10
Jamie
Hmm.
00:33:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
And long may it continue.
00:33:12
Craig matthews
but
00:33:16
Craig matthews
I like, I like to think this is the point to them every season anyway.
00:33:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyway.
00:33:19
Craig matthews
I don't want to get really good. I want to see the every season just to shock them fans off. so
00:33:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
It would be the ultimate shut up if they got relegated, but I know what you mean. I i want to i want to play them.

Early St. Totteringham's Day Anticipation

00:33:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
I want to beat them every year. I mean, let's also think about it this way, lads. St. Totteringham's Day, we can probably celebrate next week at this rate.
00:33:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Like, I don't know when the official date will be.
00:33:38
Jamie
Yeah.
00:33:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
But it's going to be soon. Anyway, that is it for today. Thank you all so much for listening or watching as we are now on YouTube. um We have been Josh Vincio, host Jamie Patterson, Craig Mattys and Joshua Duncan. We'll be back tomorrow with a look at a little bit more of a deep dive into refereeing. We'll also be looking at the results from Europe last week and the upcoming final game for Arsenal against Girona. But until then, have a wonderful day. And from all of us here at the Daily Arsenal Podcast, goodbye.
