00:00:58
Speaker
Hi. Hi.

Podcast Introduction

00:01:01
Speaker
Thanks everyone for tuning into Laughing with Ginger's. The podcasts were to feisty redheads with loud laughs, share crazy stories, play games and spread silliness and joy. That possum rock star over there is my partner in crime on the Laughing with Ginger's podcast, Christina Curry.
00:01:21
Speaker
Oh, man. Sarah Allefin, my prankster monk. You actually said that word a lot better than I did. Up, possum. I meant to say super star. Oh, yeah. But I said rock star, so. Oh, yeah. All right. You know, you know. Words are hard. They are. They are. Especially on this audio format. I know. Why? I don't understand.

Matching Humans with Dogs

00:01:48
Speaker
Oh, get ready to laugh y'all because today we are talking about dogs and their humans. Mm hmm. I am going to quiz there on the personality types that we humans have. And what kind of dog personality types match those personality types of humans? And then what kind of dogs you should get if you are that person? That's a really long way of saying all that stuff.
00:02:25
Speaker
Cool, Sarah. Cool, cool. And a dog over here who's having a farty party. Oh, man. Oh, you just love it. Oh, man. Our dog, Bowie, got a little training the other day. A dog trainer came over to give us some tips. And she was so gassy. And it was really embarrassed because it comes to me.
00:02:40
Speaker
I have dog facts.
00:02:51
Speaker
You're supposed to be behaving in all the different ways, and you're just really sneaking off the living room. Embarrassing. I was embarrassed for her. Oh, no. I know. Better out than in a Shrek would say. I guess. I mean, she couldn't behave herself for one hour while the dog trainer's here, but oh, well.
00:03:21
Speaker
Oh, God. Oh, God. Yeah. So, OK. Anywho, so here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to describe a personality type and then I'm going to describe a dog personality type that goes with it. And then you have probably about like five to seven different varieties of dogs that match those qualities that you can get. So you're the odds are pretty high, but like also there's so many breeds out there.
00:03:52
Speaker
Yeah. Bet your odds might not be in your favor. Thank you, Effie Trinket.
00:04:02
Speaker
Oh, God. Okay. All right. So this first one, and think about it, you know, when you listeners out there, think about who, you know, who you are as a person, or people that you know in your life, and see if they've matched themselves with dogs accurately. I was reading through this, like, did my friends pick out the right, did I pick out the right breed? Yeah, did I, Christina?
00:04:30
Speaker
Okay, so number one, inquisitive.

Hardworking Personalities

00:04:39
Speaker
We're off to the races, everybody.
00:04:42
Speaker
Oh, Lord. Okay. Hardworking and very orderly. So, okay. While everyone lets loose, you like to have fun. You are the happiest when things are in order. You appreciate traditional values. You respect hard work. You're also not afraid to work. And you believe everyone has a role to play to keep society operating well.
00:05:07
Speaker
Oh, you also are good with just sitting there reading a really good book or listening to your favorite podcast, like laughing with gingers to recharge.
00:05:19
Speaker
And a good dog personality that matches this is one that has confidence and they're very self-assured. Though possibly they might be difficult to train at first. So your ideal match might be, you know, respectful and reliable, but a little difficult to train, might be a little stubborn, but super nice and polite once they are trained.
00:05:47
Speaker
What do you think? Okay, so initially when you were describing this, it sounded like a herding dog. Oh, I could see that. It's a little difficult to train. I don't think a herding dog is difficult. It depends on like, Felipe's border collie was really hard to train. Oh, yeah. They're smart. Yeah, so sometimes they're too smart for their own good.
00:06:16
Speaker
Also, you know, he wasn't fixed and I don't know if that factors in or not. Interesting. Okay, so it does still kind of sound like some level of working dog, but it sounds. Okay, just tell me the dog personality again.
00:06:41
Speaker
OK, your ideal dog will be confident and self-assured, though possibly difficult to train at first. Your ideal match will be respectful, reliable and polite once trained. This one's a hard one, I have to say. I mean, I feel like I can give you a hint. They're not big dogs that we're talking about. They're a little smaller. Yeah, this kind of sounds like a Boston Terrier to me.
00:07:10
Speaker
Ding, ding, ding. Yeah. I mean, it's still a terrier. So it has that like working dog behavior. But it's not going to be like a Jack Russell where it's like has no chill. Yeah. I know they don't. They have to really be like mentally exercised.
00:07:32
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. Bosse Terrier totally dead on. Also a bull terrier or a Pekingese or a Shih Tzu or a Chinese Crested or English Toy Spaniel. I don't know. I don't know what a Chinese Crested... Are those those hairless dogs? Those are the ones that look crazy. Oh my God. They're kind of hairless, but then they have the long, weird hair in the front. They're so...
00:08:01
Speaker
funny. They're like on the worst dog list, ugliest dog list. Yes, yes, they do. And it's so they're so funny. They have the cutest little personalities. And so they are one of those dog breeds where you can pick them out from a mile away. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I feel like I've known Pekingese in my life who are super stubborn and kind of an asshole.
00:08:29
Speaker
They're supposed to be good family dogs, I think. Yeah, maybe it wasn't because it wasn't my dog. I was babysitting it and I'm like, okay, let's go outside. Let's go potty. It's time to go potty. And it refused. I picked it up, put it outside. It still didn't go to the bathroom. So I'm like, all right, fine. Maybe you just don't have to go. So then it runs in front of me, jumps on the couch and just peed on the couch right in front of me. I was like, you little shit.
00:08:59
Speaker
I know dogs that do that. What? Oh, so mad at it. Oh, God. In what world? Like, why? Why are you just not going outside? Asserting dominance over Christina. Yeah. Oh, my God. You're totally right. It was definitely doing that. It was the boss, not me. Do you want a fact or you want to give me another one? Let's hear a fact.
00:09:27
Speaker
A dog's nose print isn't unique as much as a person's fingerprint. Oh, that's so cute. Also, I get all my facts from the American Kennel Society. OK, they seem they seem accurate and valid. That's so cute. I had no idea. I wonder if that's the same for kitty noses. Probably. I have a Cluso's nose print over on
00:09:55
Speaker
Clouseau is my French bulldog bud, for those of you who don't know, who's also a redhead. I'm having a farty party. Over there I have his nose pin. Aw, that's so cute. I did not know that. Yeah, I actually did only because of that. Yeah, yeah.

Giving Traits in Dogs

00:10:20
Speaker
right. Okay, so number two, if you're a giving person or a helpful doer type, you're maybe the first to volunteer, you love giving back and thrive, you actually thrive on helping others. And you try to observe what's going on around you and you go above and beyond to fill in those gaps.
00:10:43
Speaker
The dog personality to match you is a dog that's loyal, obedient, hardworking, intelligent, gentle, fond of human interaction and eager to please. So this is a working dog. This could be a Border Collie, an Australian Shepherd dog. Yeah, I would I'm going to give it to you because they've got like
00:11:12
Speaker
Sheepdog, shepherd, German Shepherd, Dutch Shepherd. They just didn't say Australian Shepherd. Apparently, every continent and country has a shepherd style. Actually, one of my facts is that Australian Shepherd dogs, and now I'm going to mess it up because I'm not actually looking at the fact. I'm totally just going to illustrate a lot. I'm very curious. Are from the United States. Okay, here it is.
00:11:39
Speaker
The Australian Shepherd is not actually from Australia. It's an American breed. Oh. Why do they call it Australian? That's weird. How do I know? I wonder if the Dutch Shepherd is Dutch or the German Shepherd is German. I mean, I think that... I have no idea. I don't know. I don't know either.
00:12:05
Speaker
I mean, I can tell you that the Labrador Retriever is originally from Newfoundland, not from Labrador. Oh, all right. Please tell me you know Labrador is a place. No, I didn't know that. In where? Alabama? Canada. Oh, it is? Is that how you say it? I feel like it should be said with like a French twist.
00:12:36
Speaker
I think you need to say it differently for me to recognize it. You're blaming me on your lack of Canadian knowledge. I've never been so I have no idea what's going on up there. Oh my gosh. It's awful. It's how did I make it this far in life without going? I don't know. I love Canada. I love looking at pictures of Canada and I know I'll love it when I end up going but
00:13:04
Speaker
Yeah, you would love Vancouver. I mean, you'd probably love, you know, Prince Edward's Island and like Newfoundland and Labrador. If that's even real. Oh, Lord. Median listeners, please don't leave us yet, but feel free to gently educate us on anything Canada. And yes, I intentionally said Canadian.
00:13:35
Speaker
I don't think she did, guys. You know, Philippe said that I am not nice enough to be a Canadian. What? My husband, who is Canadian, for those of you out there who don't know.
00:13:53
Speaker
I think you are but also I've never been so I don't know how nice they are. That might just be a fable. It's it's very Midwestern. Yeah, I can see that. I can see that. Yeah. All right. So here's one for all those ambitious social adaptable types out there.
00:14:16
Speaker
Adaptable and social. I know. I mean, those go hand in hand. Not if you're a French bulldog.
00:14:27
Speaker
Oh man. All right. So you're an optimistic achiever. You work hard, but you like to have fun. You're naturally attractive to people. You have a skill for reading others. You can perform in whatever situation life throws at you. You have lots of friends and you want to be your own friends and you are well-liked. I love that they're like, you want to be your own friends.
00:14:52
Speaker
The perfect dog for you is one that's adventurous, playful, active and social. They're very curious and they crave stimulation and activity. That sounds like a corgi.
00:15:11
Speaker
Nope. All right. What is it? This one seems a little hard. OK, so they said a beagle, which I could totally see the curiosity coming in on a beagle. They've got American Foxhound, a Rhodesian Ridgeback.
00:15:31
Speaker
English foxhound, a basset hound. I love basset hounds. I love bassets too. They are just so cute and sweet. I don't know about adventurous for a basset hound. Yeah. When you say adventurous, to me, that means that they have to be able to walk a long distance. Yeah. Yeah, I don't know.
00:15:53
Speaker
I know I even would feel like that's a Labrador for ambitious, adaptable, playful, active, but maybe they just didn't think of all the possibilities. I guess I guess not. A little basset hounds. All right. Let's hear a fact. Let's hear a fact. All right. Going with the hound here.
00:16:18
Speaker
A dog's sense of smell is legendary, but did you know that the nose has more than 300 million receptors? In comparison, the human nose has about 5 million. Whoa.
00:16:35
Speaker
Do you want to fact go Beagles? Yeah, I love Beagles. There's only one breed that was among the top five most popular breeds in 1934. The Beagle still remains in the top five today. Wow. Go Beagles. I feel like they get a lot of good press time in Hollywood movies and things.
00:17:04
Speaker
Yeah, I wonder if it's because they're easily trained. I don't actually know if they're easily trained. I have a friend who has a beagle. They rescued it from a makeup testing facility. Poor little baby.
00:17:19
Speaker
I am sure you heard about all of the beagles that got cleaned out in Virginia from that testing facility. It was like 500. That's one of the rescues that I donate to. More things. Yeah. Good, good, good. No testing byproducts that aren't tested on animals, you guys. Also, a person who hunts with a beagle is known as a beagler.
00:17:48
Speaker
That is hilarious. I had no idea that was a really great name. Beagler. Oh, I love it. Love it. Love it. All right. Number four, personality.

Creative and Laid-Back Match

00:18:11
Speaker
creative original type. You're individualistic, all those creatives out there. You sometimes feel like an outlier. You're unique and creative. You have a different way of seeing the world. You love to surround yourself with beautiful and meaningful things. You have a good sense of humor and you can laugh at yourself.
00:18:35
Speaker
So the dog personality, your ideal dog, is laid back, peaceful, relaxed, and companionable. That's a hard word. Words are hard. Words are hard. This dog knows how to mind his own business, but is alert, hardworking, and bright. I want to say that this is how people would describe a French bulldog that has never met a French bulldog.
00:19:04
Speaker
I mean, it's close. They have English Bulldog. Are those close? I don't know. Yeah, they are. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I thought so. They also have the Akitas and Shiba Inu's, which is totally like, you know, they are a strong personality of like, I don't know you, get away from me. I'm in my own world. They are cats.
00:19:30
Speaker
masquerading as dogs. Yes. Oh my God. Those Shiba Inu's and Akita's. Yeah, they really are. Yeah. Oh my God. They totally are. They're original and individualistic. But they're so cute. I just can't imagine lumping them in with an English bulldog in personality type. Nothing about that lines up to me.
00:19:58
Speaker
But it's what personality type you are that is the common thread. Yes, but you also described a dog personality type. That's true. That's true. I feel like, you know, they're laid back. I don't know about relaxed. They're definitely standoffish. Yeah, yeah, they are. And like, I don't know about hard working either.
00:20:26
Speaker
I mean, I would say English Bulldogs are also not hardworking unless by that you mean like snoring as loud as possible and farting a lot. I love English Bulldogs. I have a Frenchie. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, good. Yeah, I would have to agree with you on that one. You might have to revise this list a little.

Episode Conclusion

00:20:51
Speaker
All right. I did say that it was, you know,
00:20:56
Speaker
Someone who's never actually met that dog type. Yeah. Maybe I was right about that. Yeah, you knew. You knew. It's on paper. On paper, they say French Bulldogs are super lazy and chill. French Bulldogs are crazy. Yeah, no, I've met a crazy one. Clue could not settle down the first time you met me for like 30 minutes solid.
00:21:24
Speaker
Oh, every day, at least once a day was problematic. Oh, God. He's just like, I want to get in your face right now. Give it to me. Yes. Boing, boing, boing, boing, boing, boing. Yep.
00:21:44
Speaker
All right, I have four left. Do we have time or do we need to like? I think we do a part two. Yeah, TBD. All right. Well, be continued or something. I don't know. TBC. TBC. That doesn't seem right. Oh, God. Yeah, it doesn't seem right. Well, everybody. Thank you for joining us on the Facebook gingers.
