KRISTINA: Hi!
laughingwithgingers: Hi, thanks everyone for tuning into Laughing with Ginger's.
KRISTINA: The podcast for two feisty redheads with loud laughs, share crazy stories, play games, and spread silliness. Enjoy.
laughingwithgingers: That crazy little Ms. Frazzle over there is my co -host on the Laughing with Ginger's podcast, Christina Curry.
KRISTINA: Ms. Frizzle, isn't that the school bus, magic school bus teacher?
laughingwithgingers: Yeah, but you're Ms. Frazzle.
KRISTINA: I am Ms. Frazl. Thank you, Sarah Ellipin, AKA Prankster Monk, and my co -hosts of Laughing with Chinchers.
laughingwithgingers: It's one of those days, everybody.
KRISTINA: I know. know Listen, i ride a bus or I drive a bus, so I am Ms.
laughingwithgingers: You do. ah
KRISTINA: Frazl, Frizzle, adjacent.
laughingwithgingers: I love it. Well, today we are bringing dad jokes.
KRISTINA: Dad jokes. We love dad jokes.
laughingwithgingers: I love them so much. So I brought a whole bunch of dad jokes.
KRISTINA: Yeah.
laughingwithgingers: What'd you bring today, Ms. Frassel?
KRISTINA: I brought a case Sarah actually gave to me without looking, the anatomy of a dad joke.
KRISTINA: Oh, God.
laughingwithgingers: I accidentally helped Christina do her homework.
KRISTINA: It was great. Don't you love it when those kinds of accidents happen? it Me too.
laughingwithgingers: Glad it worked out.
laughingwithgingers: Well, are you ready for a dad joke to break us in?
KRISTINA: Yeah, always, always.
laughingwithgingers: What does a baby computer call his father?
KRISTINA: Oh, I don't know.
laughingwithgingers: Datta.
KRISTINA: It's cute, it's so cute. oh
laughingwithgingers: You want to tell me a little bit about the anatomy of a dad joke?
KRISTINA: um If there was a recipe for dad jokes, dad would probably burn it, but I'm bummed.
KRISTINA: See how easy that was. um All right. So what are the elements to a good dad joke? OK, let's be real. They're very corny because a lot of times everyone's like dad, even though inside they're like laughing because it's funny. um And they're very formulaic. Usually only dad has the punny answer. um They're often overheard from someone else or from a joke book or a gum wrapper or, a you know, popsicle, you know, those joke popsicles.
laughingwithgingers: I forgot about those.
KRISTINA: here And ah they're usually poorly delivered with little or no attempt at any proper comedic timing.
laughingwithgingers: Oh man, I already screwed up. but
KRISTINA: Oh God, but like that's the charm of dad jokes, I think. You know, um so dads are particularly fond of question jokes, a la what do you call a because the dad is the only one in the answer other than other dads. And getting to getting it to end requires a child's cooperation or obedience or, you know, that kind of thing. I can totally see dad like ah owning the question jokes for sure.
laughingwithgingers: Yeah, every single one of these that I brought is a question joke.
KRISTINA: Oh, my God, really?
laughingwithgingers: Yeah, I didn't really notice until you started telling me about the anatomy of a Dutch.
KRISTINA: Dad's slipping in those question jokes.
laughingwithgingers: You want another one?
KRISTINA: Let's hear it. Let's hear a few. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. ah
laughingwithgingers: After an unsuccessful harvest, why did the farmer decide to try a career in music?
KRISTINA: Oh my God. Why?
laughingwithgingers: because he had a ton of sick beats.
KRISTINA: Ah.
KRISTINA: I do you like the question jokes because I always think I'm going to have the answer, even though I never do. But there's like those, you know, like, instead of a second, like sometimes every now and then the clouds part and I'm like, oh, my God, I know the answer. And I'll say it out loud. And it's like the rush of how good that feels is totally worth like attempting to try to answer a question jokes.
laughingwithgingers: every time.
KRISTINA: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
laughingwithgingers: I only seem to get sick on weekdays. This one isn't a question. oo um I only seem to get sick on weekdays.
KRISTINA: Oh.
laughingwithgingers: I must have a weekend immune system.
KRISTINA: Yeah.
KRISTINA: That can go like two ways.
laughingwithgingers: oo This one isn't a question either. Okay, so maybe I do have some that aren't.
KRISTINA: Oh, nice.
laughingwithgingers: My friend was showing me his tool shed and pointed to a ladder. That's my step ladder, he said. I never knew my real ladder.
KRISTINA: It's so bad. I think there's a few phrases you say after dad jokes and that's one of them. That's so bad. you know but Look, we're still laughing.
laughingwithgingers: They're so, they're so corny.
KRISTINA: i know I know, but that's like how it's supposed to be. The more corny, the better.
laughingwithgingers: I know. I love them so much.
KRISTINA: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. ah There's that account. What is it? Dad jokes on Instagram?
laughingwithgingers: Yeah.
KRISTINA: It's a good one. I think it's dad jokes. If you don't follow it, I highly recommend following it.
laughingwithgingers: Yeah, I think I started following that on Laughing with Ginger's social media and but sent you a bunch of stuff from them.
KRISTINA: Oh, yeah, yeah, it's OK.
laughingwithgingers: yeah
KRISTINA: I'm not on Instagram all the time, so I might miss a good dad joke post here and there.
laughingwithgingers: And it's really important that none of them slip through.
KRISTINA: I know, definitely.
KRISTINA: Oh.
laughingwithgingers: You want to tell me a little bit more about the anatomy of a dad joke?
KRISTINA: Yeah, yeah. Okay. So let's take a closer look at a classic dad joke that this author, this writer of this article said her dad would always tell her. A guy goes to a doctor and says, doctor, you got to help me. It hurts when I go like this. Doctor looks at him and says, then don't go like that.
KRISTINA: ah So, OK, the dad joke, there's a pie chart of like dad jokes. So the percentage of like corniness is of that joke is 30 percent. um the sort of The like 15 percent of it is is like punny, you know, and then the poor delivery is about 23 percent. And then for me, formulaic formulaic. ah is about 30 percent. And I could see it being that because I feel like that's a good set up for a few different kinds of of jokes.
laughingwithgingers: Oh, yeah, that that feels like the traditional dad joke for sure.
KRISTINA: um
KRISTINA: Yeah, yeah, yeah, totally. um So the reason this is like helpful for our dad is this joke is later used whenever the child's looking for something or some sort of affirmation, even sympathy, like if they have a sore arm or an amputation.
KRISTINA: I guess we could go that route.
laughingwithgingers: Totally similar.
KRISTINA: Because like totally if the kid is like, you know, whining about her hurt ankle, the dad will just say, you know, then don't do that. And that's the punchline. Don't go like that. Don't do that. Don't walk on a bed. You know, blah, blah, blah. There's so many renditions that we can like spin off of.
KRISTINA: um And it's totally a dad response to a child saying something hurts and dad says, you know, then don't go like that anyway.
KRISTINA: Oh, gosh.
laughingwithgingers: You want another dad joke or two?
KRISTINA: Yeah, yeah, let's do it.
laughingwithgingers: All right. What do you call a Frenchman wearing sandals?
KRISTINA: um I don't know.
laughingwithgingers: Philippe flop.
KRISTINA: Oh my gosh. Did you tell Felipe that one?
laughingwithgingers: No, not yet.
laughingwithgingers: For that.
KRISTINA: That's a really funny one.
laughingwithgingers: For those of you who don't know, Felipe is my husband.
KRISTINA: You have to tell him that joke.
laughingwithgingers: you know i was When we first started dating, I was out to lunch with one of my teacher friends at the time. and she was She was like, yeah, so do you think Philippe will ever get his PhD? And I was like, no, I don't think so. We were talking about you know education things. And I was like, I don't think so. I don't think he wants to like go down that route. And so she goes, well, he would be Dr. Alipin.
KRISTINA: What?
laughingwithgingers: And I was like, do you think his name is Philippe Alipin?
KRISTINA: And long has she been thinking of this?
laughingwithgingers: Oh my God, I just about died. For reference, it's Alipin.
KRISTINA: Oh my god.
laughingwithgingers: It was quite, yeah, it's a name.
KRISTINA: I wonder how long she was like thinking that and like wondering when she should say something.
laughingwithgingers: And also like, did she think like that that was a normal name?
KRISTINA: Yeah.
laughingwithgingers: Or did she think that that was funny that that was his name?
KRISTINA: Oh my, yeah maybe both.
laughingwithgingers: The two are not isolated.
KRISTINA: Yeah, maybe it's like, you know how parents take normal names and spell it weird for the sake of being weird. I feel like that's opposite of what's happening here. She's like pronouncing it in a weird way just to be weird.
KRISTINA: Oh, man.
laughingwithgingers: oh gosh um why is it so cheap to throw a party at a haunted house because the ghosts bring all the booze i actually thought you might get that one
KRISTINA: because all the party goers are dead.
KRISTINA: Ah, dang it! That's so obvious. I know, so I wasn't even close. Oh man, that was good. Dang it.
laughingwithgingers: You want one more and then I'll turn it back over to you.
KRISTINA: Yeah, yeah.
laughingwithgingers: Which days are the strongest?
KRISTINA: um I don't know.
laughingwithgingers: Saturday and Sunday, the rest are weekdays.
KRISTINA: Oh, dang it. Duh.
KRISTINA: Oh, God. All right. I have a question for everyone out there. Can any joke be a dad joke?
laughingwithgingers: No.
KRISTINA: I don't think so. Yep.
KRISTINA: No. And neither does the author. The author says, I don't think so. I think there are some jokes that are so funny in their own right. They do not qualify, but it's worth testing. It's possible that a dad could tell a very funny joke, but lately that would be that would not qualify.
KRISTINA: ah Oh, here's another question. Can mom tell dad jokes?
laughingwithgingers: I mean...
KRISTINA: Yes. So the response on the article is can mom tell dad jokes? And then she responded. That's what she said.
KRISTINA: Oh, God, I feel like, yes, some moms can can go down that like corny, corny route.
laughingwithgingers: a
KRISTINA: I feel like me and Sarah are the kinds of moms that could get away with telling dad jokes.
laughingwithgingers: I know and see that's hard because we aren't actually moms to human children.
KRISTINA: I know that's true. I'd probably be so serious with my kids and be like, get your homework done.
laughingwithgingers: I know, I don't know what I would be like.
KRISTINA: I know, I know.
laughingwithgingers: Would it have changed my humor?
KRISTINA: I think
laughingwithgingers: I i don't know.
KRISTINA: Yeah. I think I would be like a serious rule abiding mom and Angie would tell me or would be like the one rolling around in the grass in the backyard.
laughingwithgingers: I think I would, I don't know. I'm the usually the one who would be rolling around in the grass in the backyard. bye
laughingwithgingers: ah And Philippe is a big rule follower.
KRISTINA: Yeah.
laughingwithgingers: I don't know.
KRISTINA: Yeah.
laughingwithgingers: I don't know. But I think I'm doing pretty well with these dad jokes.
KRISTINA: Yeah, I think you're killing it. I was like, what's a good dad joke to respond to you? But I don't have one. I don't have one.
laughingwithgingers: Speaking of killing it, did you know that your pupils are the last part to stop working when you die?
KRISTINA: Oh, my God.
laughingwithgingers: They dilate.
KRISTINA: Oh, my God.
KRISTINA: That isn't true.
laughingwithgingers: No, it's not.
KRISTINA: Dad.
KRISTINA: Oh, God.
laughingwithgingers: How do cows stay up to date?
KRISTINA: With their cow under?
laughingwithgingers: but That's pretty good. That was actually close to what my guess would have been. um They read the Moo's paper.
KRISTINA: Oh, my God, my eyes are watering. Oh, God.
laughingwithgingers: Um, I'll give you one more and then I'll turn this back over to you unless you've told me all of the dad joke anatomy.
KRISTINA: I mean, I just have one more question, but we did sort of answer it.
laughingwithgingers: Okay. Well, I hate my job. All I do is crush cans all day. It's so depressing.
KRISTINA: I was like, where is she going with this?
KRISTINA: Oh, man. Okay, so my final question is, can I tell a dad joke if I'm not a dad? And I feel like we answered that.
laughingwithgingers: Yeah, I mean, I we can tell dad jokes. We're also not dads to human children either.
KRISTINA: We're not, but we're giving ourselves permission.
laughingwithgingers: I'm just fun Aunt Sarah and mom to Cluzo the dog.
KRISTINA: yeah ah
laughingwithgingers: You've got a whole clan over there.
KRISTINA: Oh, Lord. It's a lot. I'm not going to lie.
laughingwithgingers: Okay, where do pirates get their hooks?
KRISTINA: at the. ah Hook factory, I don't know.
laughingwithgingers: Secondhand stores.
KRISTINA: Oh, my God.
KRISTINA: Oh, it's good.
laughingwithgingers: I'm going to give you one more and then and then we can close up for today. I have plenty more for future episodes though. Sound good?
KRISTINA: Spring spring aluminum.
laughingwithgingers: Yeah. Just randomly pull out a dad joke.
KRISTINA: Yeah.
laughingwithgingers: Maybe that's how we should start every episode moving forward.
KRISTINA: Oh, my God. I would be on board with that idea. Yes.
laughingwithgingers: Unrelated to the topic at hand.
KRISTINA: Totally not. But that's a good dad joke. Not related at all. It has no strategy behind it. Oh, God.
laughingwithgingers: just lightens the mood. it's your You're laughing with ginger is a moose boosh.
KRISTINA: Yes.
KRISTINA: Yes. I love it.
laughingwithgingers: Of all the inventions in the last 100 years, the dry erase board has to be the most remarkable.
KRISTINA: Bravo. Bravo. I love it.
laughingwithgingers: I think you have to really emphasize the part that is the corny pun. when you tell a dad joke.
KRISTINA: Yeah.
laughingwithgingers: I think that that's that's something that may have been missing in the article that I gave you.
KRISTINA: Yeah. Yeah. Emphasizing the corny punny part.
KRISTINA: That's how you tell. I mean, it didn't tell us how to tell a good dad joke, just how it broke it down.
laughingwithgingers: Ah, true.
KRISTINA: Like what makes a good dad joke. But I think you're right.
laughingwithgingers: Hmm.
KRISTINA: it needs so You need to emphasize the punny fart part. fart
laughingwithgingers: but That felt like a dad joke. Well played, Christina.
