Speaker
Hey, thanks to Devin Tynan for that wonderful introduction. As he said, this is the NCAA report with me, Don Glenn, and my broadcast partner, Russ Robinson, coming from the great state of Missouri. How is things down there? It'll storm me up here tonight.
00:03:09
Speaker
Well, it's going to be stormy here tomorrow, but, and it's warm right now for November. I mean, kind of unusually it's, it was up the high was 80 today and the low is, uh, I bet it's only 70 or so tonight. So wow. that's not really having you yeah Yeah. Not bad for now. So anyway, yeah, I'm trying to keep the air conditioner off. I don't think on fans.
00:03:33
Speaker
Yeah, I think the last couple of years, ours hasn't come on more than maybe once or twice. I've got it on on an automatic program. So it only comes on. It's only come on me once or twice and not that long when it does come

Speaker
All right, well, um last last time we talked, we had a few games on the schedule that were. upcoming that we highlighted as a fairly important contest for a number of different

Oregon vs. Illinois Game Analysis

00:04:14
Speaker
teams. And, uh, you know, some of the things that that happened a couple of weeks ago, it's, uh, was really kind of interesting. Um, I get to find final, uh, two weeks ago on the schedule. There we go. We'll get there here in a second. Uh, one game we, you and I both highlighted and thought that the odds makers had it just a little bit off was Oregon, Illinois. And it turned out the odds makers were pretty damn close.
00:04:35
Speaker
Yeah. Illinois got last. I mean, we went, it we ran into a damn buzzsaw going over there to Oregon. That was, I mean, if they hadn't proved it before, proved it to me before, I think Oregon proved it on that one at that day. They deserve to be the number one team because they just, they, they stomped on the gas and never let up the entire game. Really.
00:04:56
Speaker
Yeah, I just watched a big part of it. I'm looking. I'm looking at the scores done from last. That was that two weeks ago but yeah week nine week nine week nine. OK, yeah, there we go. There we go. So I was trying to pull up my scores here from week nine. ah and I'll go to the top 25 here in just a second. I watched a little bit of that game and yeah, it's a little surprised it with there was that much.
00:05:23
Speaker
it was that much difference in the game. I mean, I didn't necessarily expect Illinois to win since it was in, oh no, since it was in Eugene. Yeah, it was that old one. that Yeah, I was at Utzon stadium there in Eugene. Yeah, there it is. Yeah. So I, you know, but I thought, I thought Illinois would make it a closer game. than that so I mean, to Illinois credit, they did hold them in the second half. Now, how much of that was, you know, did Oregon let up a little bit since they had such a huge lead going? I mean, it was 35 to three at the half. um They only scored three more points after that. But then, you know, and Illinois got put into a lot of situations late in the game where they
00:06:07
Speaker
Um, or fourth down plays that they normally would not make in a, in a closer game situation. And, you know, it just, uh, it just kind of snowballed on them for sure. One

Ohio State vs. Nebraska Review

00:06:20
Speaker
other game. And it was again, in the big 10, it was kind of interesting to me that I thought was going to be, it should have been a, at least I was figuring ah an easier game than what it became was Ohio state only winning by four against Nebraska. And that was at Columbus.
00:06:37
Speaker
Uh-huh. Yeah. Yeah. oh and you know Well, who took who took Nebraska to task? Was that a couple? Was that Indiana? that was That was it was Indiana the next week. Yeah, that was last week. Indiana was that last week? Yeah. Okay. they Yeah. iterated Or was it was a week before one or the other? Yeah. Yeah. And you know, the fact that ah Indiana took them took them to task. I'm surprised. But you know, they said that Nebraska's coach, is it Matt? ah Matt rule. Matt rule. Yeah. He's build trying to build something there and he can't do it overnight. And it's crazy getting better than what it's been. Yeah. So, ah you know, you know, he played Ohio State really well.
00:07:26
Speaker
Well, he couldn't play the Indiana's. Well, I don't know. It's Indiana's an amazing story. I'll just tell you, yeah india Indiana did beat him the week before they saw they'd be in week eight, 56 to seven. And yeah, that's the that was that one. Yeah. But, uh, but yeah, I mean that, that, the you know, how's they, I mean, you know, they had a 14 to six lead at a half and then, uh, just kind of let, uh, uh, Nebraska back in it. Um, they finally scored in the fourth quarter. I mean, to put the gate to finally put the game away a little bit.

Alabama vs. Missouri Breakdown

00:07:55
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
00:07:55
Speaker
Um, one other game, ah you, I mean, I hate to, I hate to see really what happened with, I mean, Alabama just, uh, they took some frustrations out on, on your Mizzou boys there, didn't they? Well, you know, I told you, I think two last time we talked at the pin who Mizzou could put out on the field and Brady cook came out. It was a close game. The first half had Missouri defense was doing a good job on them. And, but they just couldn't score and they took Brady cook out.
00:08:24
Speaker
He heard his hand or something, so he had a bad ankle, bad hand, and so they took him out and they put in their second string quarterback, a guy named Drew Payne,
00:08:35
Speaker
who used to be the starting quarterback in Notre Dame. And he threw, he promptly threw three interceptions. The game got in hand then. So, so, uh, so yeah, they're, and they were off last week, so they're recovering. They'd been recovering. So we don't know who drink wits is going to be able to put out on the field. They get a lot of injuries and playing Oklahoma, uh, this coming weekend. So anyway, yeah, I don't know. You know, that was a game I felt like honestly, Don, they could have won. Yeah. Had they, uh, had they had the right people there.
00:09:06
Speaker
Uh, and, uh, you know, Vanderbilt, I don't know what, what, what, they what are they putting in the water? I mean, they didn't beat Texas, but they pushed Texas pretty hard. Yeah, they did. And, uh, Vanderbilt's, uh, you know, Clark Lee, the head coach there has turned things around. He's done it with a, I think he hit the transfer reporter pretty well. This year, this quarterback, they got, they picked up from, I forgot where it was in New Mexico state.
00:09:34
Speaker
Uh, he got it. He, he, he upped his staff a little bit. Jerry kill, who you probably remember used to be at Minnesota head coach at Minnesota did fairly well there yes for he health reasons. He had, he had to step down. Then he went to New Mexico state, was doing okay there. And then he stepped down from that, but he's now the offensive coordinator at.
00:09:55
Speaker
Vanderbilt, Clark Lee's a defensive guy. So I think that's helped a whole lot. I think they hit the transfer reporter pretty well. And I think it's made some differences. And you know once they get rolling, so yeah sometimes it's rolling. They've got their confidence up and everything like that. So they're you yeah, they're doing they're just it's unheard of.
00:10:17
Speaker
how well Vanderbilt. Yeah, no doubt.

Texas A&M vs. LSU Highlights

00:10:20
Speaker
um And I guess you could call it the upset of the week. Texas A and&M took LSU to task beating them by 15. It looks like a pretty good game in the first half. And then Texas A and&M just opened it up. And I did watch a little bit of that game ah and the the later part of the game. And yeah, Texas, this looked like Texas A and&M just couldn't be stopped.
00:10:45
Speaker
Just like Ella should answer for him. That's another team that started off, uh, Mike, is it Elky? Is that the guy that's the head coach there now? I'm trying to think he came over from and he's done really.
00:11:06
Speaker
He's been building there. It's been building gradually for him there. He started out with the loss to Notre Dame to open the season up. But ever since then, I mean, up until last week, I think he's been doing quite well. And so, I mean,
00:11:19
Speaker
You know, they built momentum there at, at Texas A and&M man and, uh, they've just gotten grunts. We got better. Yeah. Right. Uh, K state barely beats Kansas. Uh, you know, of course, Kansas was ranked in the top 25 at one time. Um, and then it's fallen from grace. They're only two and six, but I mean, Kansas did K state did come away with a two point win there. Um, SMU, uh, barely gets by Duke by one.
00:11:49
Speaker
Yeah, Duke's played pretty well. Yeah, it's got some pretty good thing going in Boise State. um Kept their playoff ah push alive been taken UNLV by five points. um You know and that that was pretty much we I mean week nine didn't have a lot of huge, ah ah you know, big upsets or big games that really, you know.
00:12:14
Speaker
oh I guess you could say upset an apple cart of all, but, uh, those were some of the, those were some of the highlight games, I guess you want to call them. I mean, I now game that I thought would, would have been a lot closer and really wasn't was the Notre Dame Navy game. Uh, that man, that one got out, that one got out of hand early and stayed out of hands. Well, the other question is, is, was Navy ever that good or was Notre Dame.
00:12:41
Speaker
Notre Dame just getting better, you know, right? Well, and I think yeah, and I think that's what since that loss to Northern Illinois, Notre Dame has been taking everybody to task. Um, you know, whether that loss was a, um, an early season, uh, eye opener, um, you know, for the players, you know, like, Hey, you know, we gotta watch our stuff a week. We ain't going to go anywhere, you know, uh, or, uh, you know, maybe it just, you know, one of those, as you, as they call them a fluke game, you know, but, uh, but yeah, they seem to have been, they seem to be taking everybody to task after that.

Notre Dame's Comeback

00:13:14
Speaker
Um,
00:13:16
Speaker
You know, so, but, uh, so we'll go, we'll move on to week 10, which was last week or well. Yeah. Yeah. Last weekend, last weekend. Um,
00:13:28
Speaker
We'll hit the top 25 first again, as we always do here. And, you know, again, uh, this, there was a couple upsets and one of them was, you know, Illinois got smacked back to back, uh, as they lost to Illinois or to a Minnesota, uh, 25 to 17.
00:13:46
Speaker
Um, Minnesota had the lead at the half and Illinois briefly had the lead in the fourth quarter and and the wheels fell off. Uh, now they did a lot of guys hurting that game. They lost one of their main linebackers. Um, Daniel Rusik, um, Pat Bryant, the big star wide receiver, he was out for a little bit during that game. Uh, they had a couple other guys and then he had one guy got kicked out of the game for targeting, which.
00:14:16
Speaker
um It is kind of crazy because a couple of plays, a few plays later when Illinois had to ball Altmeyer. the quarterback slid on the ground and one guy came in late and tried to lay him out and nothing was called. So, um and and i and I haven't seen it just not just happened to that's happened in a lot of different games. I've seen that where one guy, you know, theyre they seem to be picking and choosing how they call pass interference or how they call late hits or roughing the passer.
00:14:53
Speaker
But it's, you know, I think it's a little concerning to a lot of people, so maybe they'll get that all fixed up here before the season ends and maybe take a closer look at it next year to fit to make sure things get straightened out. A minor upset, I guess, if you will, Ohio State beat Penn State 20 to 13. I mean, you know, you're playing, that you're playing number three versus number four. How do you call it an upset either way it goes?
00:15:21
Speaker
Yeah, you can. There was one of those games that you know that James Franklin was hoping to maybe. cross, maybe cross the Rubicon a bit to get to the other side, see what the other side looks like of the river. And he didn't do it. They didn't do it. They didn't couldn't beat Ohio State this year. And so it seems like his program just can't get to that next level. It's a, it certainly is a 10 win program. I mean, he, he's, he could come out and win 10 games, but he can't get past
00:15:55
Speaker
He has a terrible record against ranked teams. Yeah, and so at Penn State. So for some reason they just can't get to that next level. So whether it's a whether it's a mental thing done or it's just a thing that the program just not up to not up to speed with what it has been Michigan and Ohio State as you know. Oh yeah, now it's now it's Ohio State and maybe Indiana's and then it's a new darlin in the like ne and Oregon now with ah with the, with the, with the PAC 12 in it, you get the order, you know, all that kind of group and, um, yeah. And I think you're right though, with Frank, I mean, Franklin's he's, I don't know what the bugaboo is. I mean, he's had that, uh, like you said, you know, where he, he's, he turns in six, eight, nine wins, but just can't seem to get past the two big boys. Uh, and.
00:16:50
Speaker
You know, and you would think with the, you know, now that technically they're no longer in, they're in, in the same division. ah You know, they're still getting to play. trick And, you know, it's, it's one of those things I, I agree with you. I think.
00:17:04
Speaker
ah
00:17:07
Speaker
people, you know, people, a lot of people were hoping Penn state would beat Ohio state just for the heck of it to keep them out of the playoffs. Um, because you know, quite frankly, they're still fighting to get a shot at the big 10 championship, which right now, the way it sits is going to be between you Oregon and Indiana. If both of those two teams went out, which if they do that will actually give Ohio state two losses because Ohio state still has to play Indiana yet.
00:17:33
Speaker
So that could be an interesting situation as it goes along. Um, Texas tech got up ended Iowa state, who you know, um, and that was what I got the last, last second touch touchdown or something. I think it was with time running out.
00:17:55
Speaker
Oh yeah yeah. Yeah. That was kind of a shocker. Texas Tech's been a decent program all year, but Iowa State's just been, you know, they were, they were undefeated going into that game. but You know, so, so that, that was a pretty good, good size upset.
00:18:13
Speaker
You know, it's funny. I've been, I've been watching Facebook and all these Michigan fans ever since Illinois beat them. All these Michigan fans are kind of now you guys, you guys keep laughing. You know, when we take the bit, when we take the big 10 championship, it's like, and like, okay, I, you know, I don't know what you're smoking, but you're smoking something weird.
00:18:32
Speaker
And, uh, then another guy this last week before the Oregon, Michigan game said, Michigan was going to beat Oregon by 35. I'm like, okay. Uh, that didn't happen as Oregon again is still Oregon or nine or no. and And that was at the big house. That's a, that's Michigan second loss at the big house this year. me Yeah. Yeah. You know, how far that team has followed. Yeah. You know, when we, when, um, what's the name left? Uh,
00:19:02
Speaker
and har i can't harball Yeah, Jim Harbaugh. I mean, he felt like something was going to slip there and it has definitely maybe more so than most people expected. So yeah, ah so everybody is taking their. Everybody is taking out their frustrations against Michigan. The past frustrations they've had. Well, but here's the the internet. Michigan is not bowl eligible yet. They've only got five wins for the season. Yeah, they're still not bowl eligible.
00:19:30
Speaker
right, right. Yeah, so and then Louisville. I mean a bunch of upsets last week. Louisville upset Clemson 33 to 21. Yeah, I mean has had. Have we finally seen that Clemson is overrated? I guess so. And you know a lot of people have suspected that they've been. They've been overrated were handled pretty well by Georgia versus season. Then they they seem to write the boat, but I you know. They both they both Sweeney just doesn't have the you know, he just doesn't hold the thread over the ACC like he used to. And the program has slipped. And I've heard that some people say he doesn't believe in the transfer portal, and he wants to build just through recruiting. And that just he just where a lot of those schools now have ah hit the transfer portal pretty good. Oh, while people say that's where he slipped at, he just he just depending too much on his recruits, especially when recruits can move around so easily now.
00:20:31
Speaker
Right. Yeah. And we, we talked earlier about, uh, uh, two weeks ago with Texas A and&M and, and, uh, you know, their, their big win, uh, over LSU only to turn around and get waxed by 24 points by South Carolina. Yeah. Yeah. mean that oh You talk, you talk about, uh, uh, polar opposite weeks there. Yeah. Oh yeah. that was That was on the road. That was at South Carolina, but still, I mean, that was at South Carolina, but still South Carolina's, uh,
00:21:03
Speaker
They went in, you know, I don't think that you anyone expected this team to be that good yeah this year. In fact, their coach was thought to be on the hot seat, but he's had a pretty good year so far. They're five and three right now, three and three in the conference. Yeah, but them to take down Texas A&M, when it looked like Texas A and&M was the team in the SEC to beat. Right.
00:21:25
Speaker
yeah yeah but And then, you know, these conference, these conference games, you think can happen, especially in the power conferences, oh no doubt about that. yeah And then you had the SMU and pit hooked up and what people thought was going to be a really good game turned out to be just a cakewalk for SMU. yeah it looks Yeah, that's right. And but and that's, and and that's another undefeated team that just, that just went down. So the undefeateds are starting to fall by the wayside here. Right. quickly but Yeah. You didn't, I didn't ever think pit was a.
00:21:57
Speaker
was a big threat. But you know I thought, well, maybe they're going to make the playoff. But you know SMU, yeah, yeah you just ah just wonder now that the cream is coming right into the top, I guess. Or maybe some of these teams are just here while we. Yeah, go ahead. and Well, I asked assume you just had one loss for that matter. Right. They had their own loss to BYU.
00:22:23
Speaker
You know, but they, you know, but they, you know, they haven't, it's not like they haven't beaten anybody. I mean, uh, besides being that they beat Louisville, ah they beat Duke they they in overtime. They were able to take Duke out in overtime, you know, so they haven't had the the toughest schedule, but they played a couple of decent teams, but, um, you know, like you said, were they actually, we all thought that there, I did anyway, thought that they might have a shot, um, you know, making the playoffs or at least getting in somewhere. And, uh, you know, that, that did not happen at all. Um,
00:22:54
Speaker
So, you know, and, and, you know, you had your games that you knew were going to be lopsided. Um, Miami took out Duke, um, by 20 and Ole Miss just had their way with Arkansas, you know, uh, you know, I was kind of surprised the Georgia, Florida game was only, uh, an extra that was, that was a tight game until the, until the fourth quarter.
00:23:18
Speaker
Right, right, right. Yeah, Florida hung in there. Yeah, but i but eventually, you know, I watched that game and Georgia just eventually overwhelmed them. Oh yeah, you yeah. So anyway, that was deep the the defense showed up and put the clamps down and then the office helped out and that yeah, that and that's the one thing with with with I think with Georgia. Is you know, I I I don't. I'm not saying they play with teams. But you know, it's just kind of like.
00:23:46
Speaker
They, they play football until it gets crunch time. And then they play, then they play football. who You know what I'm saying? Yeah. It's kinda like, kinda like they hit a different gear when they get into that late third, early fourth quarter type thing. So.
00:24:05
Speaker
So we'll take a quick break and then we're going to go over picks or, uh, games

Liquid IV Advertisement

00:24:10
Speaker
from this week. And, and we'll probably talk a little, uh, college hardwood here. That's season starting to, uh, get going. And, uh, so we'll be back right after this.
00:24:24
Speaker
Have you heard of hydration multiplication? Well, that's what you get from liquid IV powdered sports straight. It delivers two times faster hydration in water and three times the electrolytes of traditional sports drinks. And it uses a cellular transport technology which acts as like a hydration multiplier. It's designed to deliver more rapid absorption into the body. It delivers key vitamins also like B3, B5, B6, B12, and vitamin C. It's non-GMO, contains no soy or dairy, and it's gluten-free. The human body is 60-70% water.
00:24:54
Speaker
and it contains key electrolytes that are essential for good health. When you exercise, play sports, or just your daily routine, you you lose hydration. Therefore, you need to hydrate. While most Americans drink less than 50% of the water we're supposed to, i count me in that category. ah Dehydration can be so severe, it can put you in the hospital. So stay hydrated, but water alone is not the answer. When you sweat, as I said, you lose the key,
00:25:19
Speaker
yeah electrolytes like glucose sodium liquid IV helps replace that you know, they got a multitude of flavors and Formulas electrolyte replacement formula. They've got an energy hydration formula. I've used both and I think they work very well And there's an immune boosting formula. They also have a kombucha blend for dietary health They even have a formula for better sleep through hydration that contains melatonin They all have flavors that look very light and fresh, no aftertaste. I'm partial to Golden Cherry, Azu Pineapple, and Strawberry Lemonade. They also have flavors like Lemon Lime and Green Grape and White Peach. They even have a Pina Colada. It also comes in a sugar-free that uses amino acid blends instead of artificial sweeteners. There's a hydration formula designed for kids in flavors they love like Concord Grape, Crisp Apple, Tropical Punch, Banana, Cotton Candy,
00:26:10
Speaker
You know, liquid IV is is conveniently packaged in individual pouches and a little sticks. So you can take them literally anywhere, beach, gym, office school, even on an airplane. You know, in the cabin of an airplane is five to 12% less humidity than the Sahara desert. So long flights can get you hydrated, dehydrated. And that causes jet lag in coffee and tea. They are not going to help. They actually add to dehydration. Alcohol doesn't help. So i ask for a bottle of water, to drop in a stick and stay hydrated.
00:26:37
Speaker
Liquidivi also cares about the world we live in, so they resource sustainable materials from family farms, they use 100% recycled materials and packaging, and provide grants to act for access to clean and abundant water in other countries.
00:26:49

College Football Playoff Projections

00:27:13
Speaker
All right, we're back. I want to kind of go over to the idea of what the playoffs, it And as you know, uh, the playoffs, uh, are going to be with the 12 teams this year and a whole bit, but you know, they go by the rankings, but it's not going to be the AP rankings. It's going to be called what, what they call the CFP or college football playoff rankings. And those come out Tuesday.
00:27:39
Speaker
So right now, if you go by the if you go by the AP rankings, which is all we have to go by at this point untill until tomorrow, because we're wrestling our tapeness on Monday night. So until tomorrow, when the actual the CFP rankings come out, you have ah Oregon 1, Georgia 2, Ohio State's 3, Miami 4, Texas 5, Penn State 6, Tennessee 7, Indiana 8, BYU 9, Notre Dame 10, Alabama 11, and Boise State makes it in at 12, just so they don't have to put them in at 12.
00:28:07
Speaker
ah yeah as I'm sorry. I'm just kidding there. But but so your first, your your four conference champions get the first four spots. So that means Oregon and Georgia get number one. And if you go by the AP rankings, which, you know, like I said, there but it'll be a different ranking come <unk> tomorrow, but Oregon and Georgia would be, we get the first two seeds. Miami would then get the third seed because they, because Ohio state.
00:28:34
Speaker
Would not be would have to back out as soon as since they're not the conference champion. So they would get the third Miami would get the third seed. Then you got to go all the way down to BYU at nine. They would end up moving up to the fourth seed.
00:28:48
Speaker
So that puts then Ohio state at five, Texas at six, Penn state seven, Tennessee eight, Indiana nine Notre Dame comes in, stays at 10. Alabama stays at 11 and Boise state stays at 12. So which puts Ohio state playing in the first four games would be Ohio state Boise state.
00:29:14
Speaker
And then you would have, uh, Texas and Alabama Penn state Notre Dame in Tennessee, Indiana would be, would be the first four game match-ups you would see. And those games would be played at Columbus, uh, at Texas at Penn state and at Tennessee. So sucks if you're in the bottom four.
00:29:40
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Cause you're on the road to start with and then, um, bowl games would take effect after that. And I would presume that Oregon would get the Rose Bowl. Uh, Georgia would get the sugar. Uh, Miami would get the, I guess orange bowl. I think it is.
00:30:04
Speaker
And, um, um, BYU would get the, uh, Fiesta. Fiesta. Okay. are I think is way, this is the way the bowls go this year. So, you know, and then after that, it's a, it's a who knows. But, uh, but yeah, so that's what you're looking at right now. Um, so we're going to, with that in mind, we're going to take a look at, uh, this week's schedule coming up. So, um, top 25, there we go. Week 11.
00:30:35
Speaker
Okay. So third is nothing going on Thursday night. Really? of Any consequence by Tuesday, the enemy were, yeah. Games are starting Tuesday night this week. Um, nothing Tuesday, nothing Wednesday, Thursday, nothing really. I mean, yeah. So Friday we've got again, nothing. So everything's going to happen on Saturday then. So, uh, we've got, um, Texas at Florida, Florida is at Texas.
00:31:02
Speaker
Uh, Miami's at Georgia Tech, Ohio, uh, Purdue goes to Ohio state.
00:31:11
Speaker
Um, Michigan goes to Indiana. We'll find out. We'll find out how bad Michigan really is. Um, Georgia goes to Ole Miss. Yeah. Interesting.
00:31:27
Speaker
That's a game in the SEC to watch. Yeah, mainly because Ole Miss is trying to stay in the hunt for postseason and obviously Georgia wants to win the SEC. They just need to beat it Ole Miss and it'll be that in Oxford. So yeah, that'd be.
00:31:43
Speaker
Maybe a game worth watching. Uh, see how, see how, you know, Carson Beck, the Georgia quarterback, he's been kind of an in this interception tear lately and he threw three interceptions, I think against Florida. and And then I believe he threw three interceptions in the previous game. So he's really been putting them kind of in a hole going into, uh,
00:32:04
Speaker
in the early part of the games. So we'll see if if they do that to Ole Miss and Ole Miss has an offense, they can score rather quickly. We'll see how that works out. That is the game in the SEC to watch, obviously, you know. Well, that's one Ole Miss win. Yeah, yeah, well, I'm looking through.
00:32:26
Speaker
right because i think I think the game that a lot of people are going to focus on, I mean, that one for sure people are going to look at. But I think one game, if I had to pick a game in the SEC, that's going to be the game people are going to wait and set their their their Saturday chores by is Alabama LSU. Because but that's a game that yeah yeah it it could it could knock either one of those two right out of the playoff contention picture altogether.
00:32:55
Speaker
Well, I think you'll not knock one of them out for sure. You know what I mean? I don't think there'll be a three loss team in the playoffs unless it's some team that happens to get wins their conference championship or something like that. But I don't think there'll be, I think this will knock one of them out. yeah Right now, LSU is the way I'm seeing this is a two and a half point favorite in this game.
00:33:21
Speaker
um And yeah, they're doing that because that's at home. They're, they're going to be playing entire stadium. Yeah. And that's a, that's a six-story gym on CBS. What's the, what's the spread on that one's done? I said two and a half, two and a half to LSU. I'd take LSU and give Alabama two and a half. I think, I think I would. I think, I think I might be inclined to as well. I mean, um,
00:33:53
Speaker
You know, just, I can say you go by what's, what's been going to LSU's been fairly solid all year. I mean, they've lost, but they haven't lost. Crazy. You know, they don't have any crazy losses, if you will, uh, or, you know, Alabama, I, and everybody's going to keep pointing to it. They lost to Vanderbilt. Mm-hmm.
00:34:14
Speaker
Yeah. And it wasn't even, it wasn't even ah an upset. I mean, it wasn't even a last say it was, it was a loss. i yeah was a lot yeah one You know, and you know, they, you know, of course they let Georgia.
00:34:27
Speaker
almost run them over until they came back and won that one. um but So that I think that game's going to have a lot to say about who does what, who who goes forward here, looking around here. There are really not any other big ones going on. I mean, there's a couple of games that maybe I guess you could point at as a possible ah pitfall. I mean, Texas Tech, Colorado's 21.
00:34:53
Speaker
They play Texas Tech and it'd be a chance for Texas Tech to maybe get back into things here, you know, cause they're, I mean, there are a third of three loss teams. They're pretty much out of the playoff picture, but you know, maybe at least get themselves a decent bowl, a bowl projection, if you will. They don't know that kind of thing for those guys here. What else we got there really, you know, Texas and Florida, I guess that I don't know that one.
00:35:20
Speaker
That doesn't scream upset to me, but then again, if you look at Texas' as a schedule, you know, really? Who have they actually played? I mean, you get down to it, who has Texas actually played? um ah Yeah, they beat Michigan. Okay. We've already established Michigan is not the Michigan of old. So beating them, and I don't think is of any rule, not a feather in your cap, if you will. They beat Oklahoma, who was 18th the time. um They beat Vandy. Okay. I mean, they beat the giant killer, I guess.
00:35:50
Speaker
Um, but you know, they're, they're really the only big game that I see that they've had on their schedule. They lost and that was the Georgia. That was the Georgia it was right. Right. So, um, yeah. And, uh, you know, I think they won't be really tested again, probably till they play Texas A&L. That's the last game. It's at Austin. Yeah. It's at Austin. yeah So that's when they'll be tested again. So, uh, so we'll see, we'll see how that goes.
00:36:17
Speaker
we we We don't think Florida will give them much of a charge or Arkansas or Kentucky. I don't know, but I think, you know, that Texas A&M game will be the one to see. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We'll we'll see. what We'll see when the rubber meets road on that one. um Um, yeah, there's really enough, you know, Boise state's got Nevada and you know, there's been talk, um, no, looking at Nevada has been talking about trying to get Nevada into that new, uh, pack 12, um, group, if you will. Um, I don't know how good Nevada is.
00:36:50
Speaker
ah Cause they're talking about, you know, Nevada would have to come with UNLV if they want to get UNLV. And, you know, so I'm not sure how good that, I mean, they're, what are they there? Well, no, they're not that good. They're only three and seven, oh, and four in their conference. Um, you know, but you've got, um, um, huh. I just lost my train of thought. I'm sorry about that. You got Boise state. They've got to, they, I mean, you know this is a game that they've got to have because they got Colorado state right on their heels.
00:37:24
Speaker
Yeah, it's kind of surprising. Yeah. Yeah. Um, so if they don't win that one, um, you know, then they, they, they put them in a, in a little bit precarious position when they go, cause I don't know if they have a conference championship or not, but it puts them in a precarious position of having if Colorado state can win only being one game behind them. And like I said, I don't, I don't know if they have a championship, uh, then you've got, uh, after, uh,
00:37:51
Speaker
after that, after that call, you know, after this game against, uh, Nevada, I'm losing my train of thought all over the way place. I'm just, maybe it's cause it's Monday. Now it's got me thrown off. ah mu know they got that Yeah. Nine o'clock. Yeah. Yeah. Um, ah that is, yeah, we are doing this a little bit north later than normal. That's for sure. Uh, yeah. Boise state after that, they've got, um,
00:38:12
Speaker
San Jose State, Wyoming, and then Oregon State. So you know it's not like they've got a ah powerhouse field to go up against coming coming near the end of the season, for sure. you know And you know you'd think some this time of the year, you start getting into those games where it is a tough game. you know are You've got those tough games coming up. and um you know And now next week, I know we kind of look ahead a little bit.
00:38:38
Speaker
say Next week is when Ohio State has a little bit of a wrecking coming as they get to play it. They, they get to play Indiana, uh, come up and coming up in week 12, uh, or no, one got I take it back. They get Northwestern. Wow. So they don't, it's almost till right before the Michigan game then. Um, and, and week 12, um, not that Tennessee Georgia matchup ought to be pretty interesting in a week 12. That will be interesting. Yeah. um
00:39:09
Speaker
That one will be very interesting to see what, what transpires in that one. Um, you know, I don't, I'm not going to put a lot of faith in it. And right now the lines 10 and a half, uh, but Oregon, Wisconsin, that's going to be at Madison. Um, and it's going to be a little cooler there than I think Oregon's used to playing in. So we'll see, you know, in Wisconsin, Wisconsin has not had a, a terrible year. I mean.
00:39:39
Speaker
um They've had some hard luck Charlie games going, you know, that that that they've we played. um You know, they played, and they lost to Bama and the USC on back to back weeks, um lost to Penn State, you know, but they've pretty much beaten anybody else they've played, which, you know, again, isn't, hasn't been a whole lot.
00:39:58
Speaker
But, you know, the game is at Madison. So who knows what that one, I mean, Oregon could be looking past him. Um, you know, getting that close down to the end of the season, they could be looking past it because they're in there in the seasons of Washington. I don't think Washington is going to give Oregon Oregon that much of a game. So, you know, it, it could happen. Yeah. And then you've got, uh, well, would, would show what ah we thought I thought, or you and I both would have thought three weeks ago.
00:40:22
Speaker
would have been a pretty good game to watch. And that's Pittsburgh Clemson, but now both of them are sitting at the bottom of the right bottom of the top 25 with, you know, pretty much out, out of the running, so to speak, unless, when unless one happens though, unless Pittsburgh happens to make it, make it to the, uh, champion of the, um, ACC championship. Right. Yeah. Yeah.
00:40:45
Speaker
yeah Well, whatever hope either one of them have, they need to win that game. So I mean, Oh yeah. I mean, that's going to be a game for them. So yeah. Um, all right.

College Basketball Season Preview

00:40:56
Speaker
Let's turn our attention a little bit. Like I said, college basketball has started up. Um, a number of teams have already played their exhibition games and, uh, uh, tonight, uh, was the, was the, was the kickoff night for a lot of teams. I know you, uh, Missouri, you guys are playing, uh, Illinois was playing tonight.
00:41:16
Speaker
Yeah. I don't know the Memphis, looks like Memphis has got the lead right now. Yeah, they've got the lead fairly late. Mizzou had a 10 point lead at halftime, but it looks like Memphis is kind of taking control of the game. There's only a minute 40 left, so yeah I'm just checking the score real quick. Like I said, that wasn't on TV where I have it, so I don't know much about it. There wasn't a lot of top.
00:41:41
Speaker
big games tonight no this is all your yeah this is all the get started games you know i think is well a lot of people play northern and yeah so right they're playing warm-up games so there's not much to say i don't know as we get closer to thanksgiving and stuff there'll still be a few games to start popping up here and there. um There'll be a few. terms the Preseason rankings. We'll see how the preseason rankings look here. They've got Kansas, Alabama, Yukon 3, Houston 4, Iowa State, Gonzaga, Duke, Baylor, North Carolina, and Arizona rounding out the top ten.
00:42:21
Speaker
Then the next 10 starts with Auburn, Tennessee, Texas A and&M, Purdue, Creighton, Arkansas, Indiana, Marquette, Texas, and Cincinnati at 20. And in the last five are Florida, UCLA, Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Rutgers. um That's the AAP.
00:42:45
Speaker
Culture's poll has it just a little bit different. um They've got Illinois in their 24, um, pretty much the top, the top four, the same, just about any, any one of the three poles, uh, or four, three or four poles here. Um, and it's like football. You don't make much out of the preseason rankings. I know a lot of people and were upset that Illinois wasn't in the rankings after being in the elite eight last year.
00:43:12
Speaker
But you got to take into consideration some of these teams and where they're getting ranked is, you know, what they lost over last year. I mean, you look at Purdue, they've lost a two time, uh, uh, NCAA player of the year and, and, and, uh, and Ed Edie, uh, he's gone. Um,
00:43:29
Speaker
you look at Illinois, they, they had to replace 10 players, um, you know, and, you know, Yukon to still stay up in the preseason rankings as high as they are. That's kind of a testament to that team and what, what stuck around, um, talked about the transfer portal and stuff like that, affecting football. You know, I think it has more of a tendency to affect parody and basketball than it does football. I think so. Cause you didn't take much.
00:43:59
Speaker
to move the needle. ah In basketball, because you know you're only going to end up playing seven or eight players, right? ah And if you can kick get a couple of quality guys out of the portal and you've already got a good base, you know that can make it move the need needle a whole lot. Donna is looking at. I don't know where I remember the last time I saw Kentucky 23rd to start the season off, you know?
00:44:24
Speaker
Even though we don't put, you know, really this should put a lot into these sort of this first poll but raise come on to see them not get the benefit of the doubt. Well, and here's, here's something else. I just noticed it's odd. I seen, I do not see Notre Dame anywhere in the top 25.
00:44:44
Speaker
And by, well, they haven't been a much of a factor. Have they in recent years, now recent years, they have, I mean, they, they still kind of, I mean, they're still kind of the team you don't want to take lightly, but yeah, I mean, you know, they haven't been that big of a, um, of a force and of recent years. Um, you look, I mean, again, Houston, I mean, they've been able to stay for the last, oh, what five years or six years now, um, pretty much been able to stay in that, uh, uh,
00:45:12
Speaker
top 25 top 15 will, uh, of course you always got the, the, the gun saga, uh, dudes on the top 10, uh, North Carolina is at nine, um, Arkansas. I mean, that's a team that.
00:45:28
Speaker
You know, I, if you go by, like I said, again, you can't go by last year because you know, a lot of these teams are going to lose things. So, you know, we're going to, you know, like you said, with, with football, it's going to take, uh, probably a month or two before we actually see, cause there's a lot of teams have got, uh, all the, uh, like you said, the, the, I don't want to say Pat sees, but you know, the, the, um,
00:45:49
Speaker
non-competitive games are going to play early. is that illinois Illinois beat Eastern Illinois at 112 to 67. Eastern is not much of a challenge for Illinois. Then they've got SIU in Oakland. But then after that, Illinois plays Alabama in like the fourth game of the season. So we'll find out a little bit of metal there, what they've got got. We get Tennessee in December, which is going to be right before Missouri. We get Tennessee and Missouri back to back.
00:46:14
Speaker
I don't know if I got to see him. Yeah, yeah, right. Plus we get Arkansas. We get we get Alabama on November 20th and then Arkansas. On the 28th. Yeah. Yeah, schedule makers for have not been kind to us already. I can see and then we get Duke later on in the year and what's it called it it' at Madison Square Garden? It's some kind of a little tournament they've got going and we get Duke.
00:46:44
Speaker
You know, so, so it's, it's, you know, like you said, after about the first four or five games, then you start seeing, uh, we'll start seeing where, where these teams are at and what they're, who they're playing. So, um, what do you think about, uh, well, I know we're supposed to kind of keep it broad based, but you and I are both homers. So what do you, what do you think about your Missouri boy chances here?

Missouri Basketball Team Developments

00:47:05
Speaker
but You know, I'm, uh, I'm completely not sure. Don, he's brought in some good transfer portal talent.
00:47:14
Speaker
Uh, he's brought in, they didn't have much, they had hype, but they didn't have much weight. Going into the sec last year and they got pushed around underneath. He's kind of fixed that he's brought in some 7 footers, some 611, 610 guys. He's recruited his freshman recruiting class is really good.
00:47:33
Speaker
It really is good. And plus he's got left last year's recruiting class coming back. So the pieces look good. It's just a matter of can you blend them in and get a plane together? I was watching the watch keeping my eye on that Memphis score and Memphis has taken lead looks like they're gonna win it. They're up by eight points now. So, you know that's why he did.
00:47:55
Speaker
Pits after the Memphis game. He's got a soft schedule till he plays Illinois in Kansas. I think it's Kansas first in Illinois and I think it's the to but give a chance to blend this team together before he hits gets too far along. So yeah, so I don't know. i you You hope yeah you know you get back to the NCAA tournament, but who knows? I don't know. You know I need to watch these guys a couple before I can say too much about him.
00:48:23
Speaker
Yeah, no doubt. Same thing, like I said, mentioned earlier, Illinois brought in 10 new players. I mean, they lost a few guys to graduation, obviously in the NBA, but then we had, you know, about four or five guys that, that jumped and went to the portal. um You know, um Underwood's been able to bring in some, some size and some length. I mean, we've got a big boy in the middle now. Tomislav is, is Bisic.
00:48:50
Speaker
Um, seven foot one, uh, 255 pound center from Croatia. Um, but they, they had some issues with him going in because they weren't sure the NCAA was going to clear him because I guess he played, uh, some pro ball in Europe.
00:49:06
Speaker
Uh-oh. Uh-oh. Yeah. You know, played for a pro team or played in a pro league or something like that. So the NCAA did in effect clear him to play, but they took away a year of eligibility. So he has to come in as a sophomore, not as a freshman, as far as eligibility goes. But then they've got, the they picked up Kylan Boswell, a point guard from Arizona.
00:49:29
Speaker
They picked up this ah kid. I'm going to, I'm going to butcher his name till I figure out how to say it. Who righteous six, nine, ah four, shoot pretty well. Then you've got, uh, Will Riley, this kid from Canada, the freshmen from Canada, six, eight, one 80. Um, they say that kid can fill it up from the outside. Uh, he's can, he's got a good ball. He can play the, play the guard, play the four, four.
00:49:55
Speaker
You know, anything, they picked up another kid, the freshman kid, uh, coming from Riverdale, Illinois, uh, mores Johnson, the six, nine, two and a quarter, you know, so they've got some length, they've got some height. Um, but like you said, just like with what the gates is going to have to deal with down there, you know, it's getting all these brand new guys to come in and gel together and play like a team. I mean, they played an exhibition game against Ole Miss and lost.
00:50:21
Speaker
You know, but as, as, as I was talking to, uh, on my, uh, my other show, uh, talking to the guy, I said, you know, you play the, you played the exhibition game, not to get a W you played the execution game to see what you got.
00:50:35
Speaker
bra You know, so that's, that's, and and and it did give kind of give them an idea of what they were messing with, what they're playing with. And then one other development on the Illinois thing is Ty Rogers, the junior forward, who's been, who's been playing like, uh, he's been playing forward point guard. You, you name it. The kid, the kid will play, just plug him and he'll play. Uh, he's actually going to red shirt this year. He's going to take a year off.
00:51:00
Speaker
Uh, which I find a little bit interesting, but I think it's a good, I, a good idea for him because of the kids that they've got in here with humricious and, um, uh, Jacosaunas and some of these other kids that they brought in Trey white, um, Um, you know, just to see, maybe learn, get a different idea of what he needs to do, pick up a little bit better on his outside shot. Uh, cause that's one thing this team's going to be, he's going to, they are going to be able to shoot from the outside. So we'll see how it all goes. So, Hey, uh, yeah, go ahead.
00:51:35
Speaker
No, that's all. No, it's just. It's just a matter of. It's just a matter of putting it together. I think we I think we've kind of hit the end over here. So hey, you know it's going to be fun. Another couple more weeks and then we'll see where really where the playoff picture lies. We'll have a really good idea then. Basketball will be in a way. Maybe we'll have somewhat of an idea of what our teams look like and what the leagues are going to look like. So. Where are we going? Where are we going to find you between now and then Russ?
00:52:06
Speaker
Well, I'm on Twitter at F.R. Robinson, one nine five seven. And of course, like I've said before, I kind of I kind of hang out with some of the Mizzou Facebook groups. So that's that's where I'm at. And so anyway, so, yeah, in two weeks, I think we'll be.
00:52:25
Speaker
We'll have a good idea. We'll have a clear picture of this football college football playoff. They'll be for sure there'll be some teams eliminated. Yeah, oh yeah. Well, we'll be able to say that this team is actually done done or this team still has a shot. Well, it'll be a little bit clearer picture for sure. You can always find me here at on Twitter at TSO TV GCS. You can check out the talking sports on the bleachers show, which you can find on the.
00:52:54
