Speaker: What's up, gang? This is the return of the first 15. CoachCast. I have been away for a little while. I had some personal issues. I had some technical issues. So it's been a minute. but i'm happy to be back um i also had some time commitment issues with my season going on going on for the high school so high school sports for rugby. So it's been a minute.

Speaker: But we're back and I think I got something actually really cool This is a athlete. um interview for two of my summer athletes, and I'll be right up front with you and Candid. These two athletes did play for the rugby team that I coach.

Speaker: But they have since obviously moved on and are now. playing at college, university, which whichever you wish to refer it as. And they they've been here for the majority of the summer and they've ah they've both put in the work. So I'm going to let...

Speaker: That take it from here, but great to be back. I hope you all enjoy Okay. uh all right so um If you guys don't mind, you can just state your first name. And...

Speaker: then we'll go from there. yeah My name's Brooke. My name's Nate. Uh... So, we'll start with you. yeah What did you want?

Speaker: out of the summer. I think coming in... I definitely wanted ah just a consistent program. i think what I've struggled with in the past is going in by myself working out by myself is just the consistency and like you know when you're not feeling good it's easy just to be like oh I don't want to work out today so I think I definitely wanted the consistency coming in here working with you then obviously like strength gains and then a lot of injury prevention stuff i mean you know i've had a

Speaker: bad pass with my shoulders and other other injuries throughout throughout rugby. So I think definitely just making sure those aren't going to be acting up too much when I go back to school. ye that don't worry What did you expect, what did you want to get out of this summer coming here?

Speaker: i think pretty similar like the consistency like he said it's hard for me to like since i don't belong to a gym it's hard for me like find some someplace to work out but coming here Twice a week. It's very helpful. like keep just it's I like to keep a schedule. like I know what times I'm coming in.

Speaker: I like the consistent schedule. and I like how it changes like every four weeks my workout changes so I'm not. Like. Getting bored. I like the like... diversity in it.

Speaker: in terms of your gym experiences in the past that aren't here. um

Speaker: what were some What were some things that... made you step back and maybe withdraw from those experiences. that you have that you had, like, did you have? you know some a negative person that came around you that where the you just like the equipment that was available was it dirty you know stuff like that so maybe that's one of the Hope I gave you more of an idea.

Speaker: Hmm. Yeah, I can start. um I would say... Other gyms I think first off like equipment especially waiting around for equipment like I feel like we're coming in here. It's usually pretty quick and If you're waiting for too long, we set up an alternative or you know set it set up in a different spot. So I feel like it's usually pretty efficient when you come in, you're not waiting around, you're able to bang out your workout on your own time, how quickly you want to do it.

Speaker: Um... and then kind of adding to that like it's nice having the space there's times where it's a little busy but i feel like overall it's pretty it's a pretty intimate experience and i think you're able to just stay focused the entire time and not be distracted by those around you messing about with the equipment or anything like that review Yeah, I think it's stuff like commercial gyms or other stuff like that. It's just

Speaker: Easy. Like he said again. he's saying all the stuff I was gonna say. Maybe we'll have you go first. yeah It's easy for you to get for me to get distracted. Or like...

Speaker: Like when I my headphones in my own gym, I gotta just get distracted but here like Everyone like I'm normally going at the same time as other people that are Like if I go in on Tuesday at 6, it's usually the same people every Tuesday at 6. It's like you get to know them and it's kind of more of like a community. which I like.

Speaker: I also like how the workout is like catered towards like what I need. instead of like I'm just going to the gym on my own. like I don't really know what I'm doing. but like but like Obviously, like you know what... like about rugby so you know what kind of workouts I need to do.

Speaker: Yeah. Um...

Speaker: In terms of... What you enjoyed the most about your experience this summer school? Great. I think I have at least a few days few more days with each of you. um In terms of you.

Speaker: what you've enjoyed the most out of the summer for your experience. bre weilla you go anything just be mind Um...

Speaker: I guess I like how like... You like Push. you Push outside. And I don't want to go up here. Forcing me to go up and like stuff like that. or like If I'm struggling, you like.

Speaker: and then i can come over and tell me what i'm doing wrong so i'm not just like in the past than what I've had. like trainers for like my high school field hockey team or like even my college team.

Speaker: they don't like Notice what I'm doing and they just let me like do the forming correctly. but you're always there to like help. And tell me what. doing wrong so I don't hurt myself.

Speaker: Yeah. Try not to point out wrongs, but yeah try and also make sure that you don't break. Yeah. Anything you want to throw in there, Nate?

Speaker: For me, especially this summer, I was lucky enough to have like my buddy Will come in at the same time as me. yeah And that was just like a great experience. like coming in and like I feel like it was really rugby -focused, because now you've got the rugby going on on the TV, we're talking about the whole time, talking a little. It's a really good atmosphere to first off be focused on rugby, and that is the end goal of all this stuff, is to get better for rugby. and Obviously, for life in general, everyone wants to be healthy, but I think that was really cool, being able to be with my friends, be with you, and and really just stay focused on like the sports that I'm trying to get better at. It's amazing what happens when you have someone else sitting out with you. yeah so that's definitely something that i think you guys can speak on the semi -private format of it being a little bit more beneficial than you know all one -on -one um

Speaker: Have either of you had experiences with like one -on -one training before? I don't think so. No. That's not a big deal in that case. I didn't think so. but You never know.

Speaker: so for you. um Rock will go to you again. For you. What is something that you feel like you can take take with you? after you're after you're done here for the summer.

Speaker: You aren't forgotten. to Endicott, yeah. Um... Well, I thought you had the link. I've been taking your old workouts and I've been doing them at Endicott. um i think also what i'm Since I'm used to it now, I go twice a week.

Speaker: The like just the routine of it. I'm gonna be able to carry on and I know like Now I know what I'm doing a little bit more because... you taught me what to do. So I think like... Stuff like that. But then also... um don't know anything i do Anything that you feel like you're going to take forward?

Speaker: your neighbor. in terms of Well, you know, about time you had it. Leaving here this summer. Yeah, definite I think For me it's a lot more like...

Speaker: mindset -based, because I think whenever I'm working out on my own for a consistent period of time, it's really easy just to let off the gas when no one's watching you. But I think coming in here for an entire summer and being in here consistently, it kind of shows me like the level that I should be training at and the intensity I should be training at, even when I'm not feeling my best. like You still got to show up. You still have to push yourselves. And I'm hoping that I can go back to school and keep that mindset of like intense workouts, pushing myself each time, rather than just going through the motions on my own.

Speaker: So, Brooke, I do want to... point this question to you and I have one for you, Nate, as well. um for girls in the gym and the stigmas that come around it. for you.

Speaker: what Number one, what's the biggest one that you that you have in your head that you had? And two, what do you have to say about that now that you've... that positive experience in the gym for yourself. Thanks for that.

Speaker: whats What's the first? thing that comes to mind when you have when you think about it. females in the gym and the stigma that that surrounds it sometimes. I think I might. This is kind of like something you see in social media a lot it's a lot of sites male -tip influencers, like saying like...

Speaker: Girls only do cardio, girls don't go this heavy, like stuff like that. And I think coming here, like... You've encouraged me. like I can lift heavy. I've seen myself lift heavy. End.

Speaker: Just because I'm a girl doesn't mean I can't lift heavy. and like Yeah, it might take me a little bit longer to build the strength just because it's like anatomy, but like... It doesn't mean it's like... like And he went and started doing anything.

Speaker: as a president. Do you feel like that's given you... um Good you've had some different feelings about that. It's giving you so certain things within yourself that you didn't know you had yeah for sure like anything in particular that comes to mind.

Speaker: Well, I think like...

Speaker: Like what I like. My brother's 14, so he's getting bigger now. yeah but likely So he can like... like I think like last year just kind of beat me in a fight, but I think I'm going to do it more consistently with you and then also with like with my end of the call workouts. And done done.

Speaker: Like he can't be in the fight anymore. So that means we're cool. yeah a little more confidence to stick up and stick yourself up against your brothers. Good. so neat for you.

Speaker: This obviously is huge. uh stigma for men and how it's just gotta be just super testosterone infused environment. Um... Yeah.

Speaker: I don't think we do that here at this place. Do you think that detracted from your training in any way shape or form? and you know what did you experience in that in that vein otherwise yeah i mean i think that honestly made my training so much better because i feel like there's a lot of things with like especially lifting heavy and i think there's a lot of a lot of guys like insecurity they're not going as heavy as possible and they're not you know impressing everyone around them when in reality like

Speaker: i know I would come in banged up after tournaments and I'd be going at 60 % of what I'm normally lifting and and it was was such a judgment -free space where I knew what was right for my body and I knew that I should be doing this and I was still improving and there was just no like external pressure from anyone to like hurt myself or use bad form or anything like that. It was purely just about getting better for any reason and not about like your ego or pride being in the way of that.

Speaker: And I'll propose this to both of you.

Speaker: But what feelings would you say that? you could get Or what what could you tell someone that is cautious about going into working out with? especially with weights, but even with. Um...

Speaker: without a one -on -one trailer or without, you know. anything that they stereotypically think of how they do things whether it's a big team workout or a one -on -one workout and we found the middle around here so to those that might be on the fence about.

Speaker: I don't know if ah here's it's going to do anything for me or if I won't feel comfortable doing it. anything in between that so Fur. Someone, I think, more for you, but I don't if I want to work out.

Speaker: What would you say to someone, especially someone like, you didn't think about your former self yeah when you were younger? Well, I think... This is like... I think they love it. I think any movement is a good movement. Like, even if you're just going outside going for a walk, it's very important to just move your body. like you look Not only for you, but for like those around you. Keep yourself in shape so you don't have a habit.

Speaker: Not in shape, but keep yourself active. So you can don't have to have yourself stuck by yourself or for your friends. Um... And like it. it the weight really doesn't matter like i'm still using like five pounds for some of my workouts but like like at least something like it it everyone starts somewhere like like everyone starts so And then...

Speaker: Yeah, yeah. And more fur. and warm the paint for her. what typically happens with males is... i don't mean I know what I'm doing. you know So to someone that might be on that track.

Speaker: tractor -tire. What would you say to someone like that? um I mean, I think this is kind of happening to all of life, but I think... A lot of guys, yeah, they have this pride in the studio. I know exactly what I'm doing. I found this YouTube workout. And I'm going to listen to this person because they look like this. But I think a lot of people want to take a step back and i realize that, you know, there are trade professionals that know what they're talking about.

Speaker: asna countless powers losing this and this is a job and i think like like learning to go into it with an open mind and saying i'm gonna learn as much as possible i'm gonna take away from this experience as much as i can like that's that's the point of it not going in you know hard -headed and you know sticking with these ideas as about that a guy that you know probably isn't as qualified as you know yeah yeah In terms of that, would you say there's...

Speaker: probably misconception that... aesthetics. has something to do with. people that know what they're doing. hundred percent understand yeah yeah like like especially it is is people who want to take advice like like use body wander so i was just superthetic and itlus easy whatever reality that completely different from what you want is athlete like I think. think

Speaker: I'm a proud museum. I started something out of my own. I know you go on YouTube and you find these body body workouts that do not transfer into sports in any way, really. And then coming and working with you, it's like, it's eye -opening because you realize that there's so much more and there's so many things that I should be doing. And then you actually just see the transfer and you go back to your sport and you realize you're faster and more equipped to handle injuries and it's like all that stuff. Yeah, it's like the bottom line, the social media and the look side are really getting away with it.

Speaker: Would you say there's aesthetics when it comes to the female and female trainers that... tend to drive some sort of misconception when it comes to training in the weight space. for you. Maybe. I think playing a sport like rugby, I think it definitely drove me away from that, just because rugby is very, very like...

Speaker: All title of like like nearly there''lifeing to the So I think a big playing more like that. that I'd definitely be a way away from that, but I think that's because I was younger and like Mike.

Speaker: Someone of them was like fastass you know like a bit taller than me when I was playing back basketball. i yeah was yeah something so that that like And when you're going online. I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like. AdWords guys and I have an opportunity to like, I mean, all my friends did, but like.

Speaker: It turns out to go up. It wasn't even real. It wasn't even a real person.

Speaker: That one's like you really just like... absolutely get out then get online lines Yeah, there's a lot of unfortunately on the trip. Um... That's all I have. At this point I'd say...

Speaker: I need it. final thoughts that you want to say either in terms of the workouts. working with me anything that we haven't covered that you want to give your Get yourself in there first where you wrap up what you first made. All it seems like.

Speaker: I think, like, no one will remember the first hours after that workout. Like, I think that's, like, been driving around for me this summer a lot, especially because, you know. Life had happens, you know, you're out there at night, and and i out of things and i said i like you you know, and you kind of know he's good.

Speaker: It's always, always a win. That is very kind.

Speaker: when you came in. South -South. See ya. That's right. Anything that you feel like you want to add that you haven't been able to get into yet? yeah that we give you a platform for now maybe we'll have to follow up on it but

Speaker: Yeah, I do.

Speaker: Yeah, well well... I do appreciate you both doing this, but thank you very much. Hopefully I'll see you guys back here in the winter. yeah Alright, so that's it. I hope you guys enjoyed your time with.

Speaker: nate and brooke and uh I certainly think some of their answers are very relevant to a lot of things. And it pains me to say that some things that shouldn't be relevant still, but they are. So I do hope that.

Speaker: Everyone here found something to take away from this and from these two these two wonderful people and um'll be I'll be back with more soon. but Thanks. Thanks again for listening and putting up with.

Speaker: my absence and being patient. So appreciate everyone. Have a good day.
