David Isaacs
Welcome everyone.
Transitioning Work Responsibilities
00:00:25
David Isaacs
It is July 6th at time of recording. As always, i am joined by my friend, your friend, our friend, Brian.
00:00:37
The Big Dog
Ice cream, we all scream for Brian.
00:00:41
The Big Dog
Yay. Thanks for having me on again, as always. David, I'm doing well. How are you doing?
00:00:50
David Isaacs
good. Just busy. feel like my brain is short circuiting trying to, you know,
00:01:03
David Isaacs
someone on my team left. So we're like trying to absorb some of the responsibilities and, um, you know, a lot of things kind of hitting all at once, um, just for the timing of everything and how our business works. So trying to,
00:01:18
David Isaacs
you know, kind of power through a lot of that. But yeah, I mean, it's tough. You don't want to go too fast and miss something or, you know, just kind of like take your time with it. But that time gets taken and deadlines need to be met and all these things. So yeah, I mean, it's been difficult to say the least.
00:01:42
David Isaacs
Still doing all right. What about you?
00:01:47
The Big Dog
Yeah, doing okay. i
Health Challenges and Routine Disruption
00:01:49
The Big Dog
had a pretty nasty sinus infection last week, so weren't really able to record when I wanted to, but um I'm feeling a lot better today.
00:01:57
The Big Dog
kind of started off as ah everyday... you know, allergies that I was having, but it it just seemed like it was kind of getting progressively worse for like the last six to eight weeks. Um, like two weeks ago I had migraines.
00:02:12
The Big Dog
Um, then it just seems like I couldn't ever like, and then last week it just, or like, yeah, I guess like last week I just never felt like I could really, you know, clear my, you know, nasal cavity of snot really. and then yeah, early, earlier or I guess within the last five days, i just got woke up and yeah, it was, I couldn't really breathe. You know, what my chest was really tight and know, more of that snotty feeling. So went to the doctor and he was like, yeah, you got a pretty nasty sinus infection. Like kind of glad you got here when you did. Cause you know, your lungs aren't sounding that great, but they put me on steroid antibiotic and some cough syrup.
00:03:01
The Big Dog
I don't, like the prescription grade one, not just like over to the counter day quill or night quill. So, um but finally yesterday, yesterday or Saturday, I just really started feeling better. I feel really like a huge nerd getting a sinus infection in summer, but just like bariatric change really has just kind of affected me last week. And although, you know, Pollard pollen and allergens have just been wreaking havoc on my, you know, my sinuses. So,
00:03:31
The Big Dog
All in all, feeling a lot better. Was working from home majority of last week.
Impact of Part-time Transition in Marketing
00:03:36
The Big Dog
um Came in today and found out that one of our co-worker in our marketing department quit.
00:03:42
The Big Dog
um So i'm kind of feel ah maybe the stress or the same feelings that you kind of got, you know, just trying to help out where I can and be good person.
00:03:54
The Big Dog
absorb some of their responsibilities if I'm able to, to help them out, that team out. But yeah, I guess she, she came back from maternity leave a couple of weeks ago and her plan was to go check out some daycares and, you know, she'll be back to work full time. But the four or five that she checked out, she just didn't really like, or you know, I don't really know what the full story is, but just, she's working part time now through the beginning of early August and she's gone.
00:04:24
The Big Dog
Um, but you know, even losing person to part-time then, you know, we don't know when the next pi person's going to get hired on. So we're kind of it's just like weird transition time for me as well. So kind of strange last couple of weeks, but you know, it's the things we work on and try to be the best person we can be and, uh, you know, best teammate we can be as well. So, uh, we're moving forward.
00:04:49
David Isaacs
Yeah, ebbs and flows, really. You know, new people come in, people leave. Some of the work that it has to be picked up and some processes that change and all that. So, yeah, it sounds like we're doing kind of a similar experience.
00:05:05
David Isaacs
don't know, daycare
Challenges of Daycare Costs for New Parents
00:05:06
David Isaacs
is just, yeah, kind of a... and I've heard very expensive. home
00:05:12
The Big Dog
Yeah, to say the least.
00:05:12
David Isaacs
And right. So it's yeah tough for, I guess, like newer parents or who are working full time to like have that feeling of not being able to see their child as much.
00:05:32
The Big Dog
Yeah, um you know, especially, like you said, new parents, it's ah a weird feeling after, you know, however long, I think it's three to five months, most paternity leaves less. um They kind of just give up this thing that you birth, right? You know, and you've spent your last all that time, you know.
00:05:53
The Big Dog
um tummy time, feeding, overnight feedings, frustration, you know, lack of sleep, all that. And then you got to trust it for some random professional who you're basically making a mortgage payment to every month to, you know, ensure that your child's safe and taken care of and getting through that.
00:06:13
The Big Dog
So, yeah, there's a lot ah lot of feelings and a lot of different, ah you know, decisions that have to be made from finances to, you you know are we going to trust this individual or or team of professionals to you know make sure their child is tended to while we're not there for you know entire work day so definitely understand that but I'm also a parent you know from out You know, if you don't have kids, just know that like daycare is not cheap.
00:06:46
The Big Dog
yeah Rightfully so. Right. Like they're basically being a parent taking care of your kid for, you know, for eight up to eight hours a day. And. Um, you know, so those, those companies, people have to be compensated accordingly. And, um, you know, it's, there's definitely a shortage of it, right? Like daycares, least around here, my area, or, you know, fill up really quickly. There's a, sometimes up to a two year wait list.
00:07:11
The Big Dog
Um, you know, and again, that's just, even if it's a match, right? Like places like these open up all the time, but, you know, is it, you know, there's a lot of questions involved. So.
00:07:28
David Isaacs
no, it's, yeah, in terms of just the expenses and, um, even the maternity leave too, and like coming back, um, it's kind of like that change thinking.
00:07:40
David Isaacs
Um, but yeah, I mean, it's tough nowadays. It's like you need two people in the house to be working, but, um,
00:07:49
David Isaacs
between like the daycare costs and some of this other stuff. i mean, it was just not like feasible. So I never, uh, we had, um, somebody at work do that recently too.
00:08:01
David Isaacs
I got back from maternity leave and was like, yep, I'm done. So I don't fault them, you know, to get that and then, um, you know, make that decision.
00:08:11
David Isaacs
But I do think it's ah it's a tough decision. I mean, it's not ah like a a good decision to have to make. Um, uh, I hope it works out for you know those people.
Website Redesign Stress and Management
00:08:24
The Big Dog
for sure. I and i got my So at work, I'm... you know Some many of you probably have i've talked to, but we've ah or talked about before. I had my first what they call discovery meeting for our site redesign with ah the developers UX or or we'll call it web design website designer and It was pretty long back and forth, about an hour and a half.
00:08:55
The Big Dog
um Just kind of hammering out details. You know, this this person was only really given notes from like the salesperson. So, and obviously our expectations changed a little bit over the time that we had met with them back in like April.
00:09:10
The Big Dog
um You know, so... i you know I've just been kind of stressed about this whole meeting leading up to it of, you know, like, what do I need? and Am I going to be able to point out the right things? But, you know, luckily we had my whole team leadership kind of in this meeting. So got a lot of input and feel feel really good about it coming out of it. And we meet up two more times to finalize all the designs and you got to get them some assets, you know, images and content of
00:09:42
The Big Dog
where we want on certain pages. So work is very busy, long story short. I'm still developing on our e-commerce page, you know, I'm project managing this. um But I did ah kind of all this to say that helped me to get my stress. I have begun seeing a new therapist. I think I talked about this last time, more full time. You know, I've gone a little bit into like stress management, um, you know, more overtly of anger management. Um, you know, cause when I get stressed out about this, like my initial turn was to, you know drink or you know, do something that wasn't necessarily most constructive, but you know, now just kind of like so
00:10:33
The Big Dog
Not necessarily stressed in a way that's like overwhelming, but and I'm just trying to take those proactive decision making of like, you know, I always fall victim and I always talk about it of self-sabotage, you know, like usually i would take things out that aren't necessarily even a big deal on my wife, you know, and then I would stress eat. ah And, you know, I could listen on a hundred hundred things that I do to, you know,
00:11:00
The Big Dog
make it worse for myself. But, you know, again, taking these proactive steps of walking every day to get my 10,000 steps, like that helps kind of clear cors up my cortisol levels. um Obviously, just also a healthy thing in general. There's a lot of benefits to just walking.
00:11:16
The Big Dog
um You know, when I get home, i either take like a nap or just something to kind of take transition from coming off a stressful day to, you know, making myself more approachable and all those things. So, um, and I'm really happy with this new therapist who I'm seeing, she's sending me a lot of homework to do, um very high end journaling. So,
Therapy and Home Organization for Mindset Improvement
00:11:41
The Big Dog
again, you know, all stuff that we, I've talked about before, but it's just about being consistent for me and, and doing all of all of these things. Um, another thing I've been kind of doing lately, just because, uh, you know, as David maybe have seen, like my basement was completely disgusting and I've just taken the initiative to kind of clean it out, taking a lot of this stuff to like Salvation Army, throwing out what for sure needs to be thrown out or something that my wife doesn't know about, you know, and, um,
00:12:10
The Big Dog
that's making me feel a lot better about my, so my space down here. You know, I don't feel like I'm just like working in like archives of a basement building or, um, you know, with no, no like coming in. So, um, all of this to kind of say, it's just, uh, I'm, I have a healthier mindset of, uh, this, this project that I know it's going to take up until at least November. So, um,
00:12:36
The Big Dog
no, good transition. I was just, uh, finishing up anyway. Uh, So it's kind of where I'm at mentally this week, focusing on that and, um you know, not getting too far ahead of myself as far as my mentality.
00:12:52
David Isaacs
Yeah. It's kind of like small steps, you know, right? But it's good. It's good to hear the new therapist that you're seeing and trying out some different things. giving you homework You know, always feel better with journaling and kind of like a good start and a good end to the day.
00:13:11
David Isaacs
Thinking about, you know, what I did that day, what I want to do tomorrow, on to the week and those things. It's really good to kind of put pen to paper and, you know, create some of those measurements.
00:13:25
David Isaacs
But yeah, the small steps, I mean, they really kind of make a difference.
00:13:31
The Big Dog
Yeah, for sure.
00:13:31
David Isaacs
And even for what I've been doing over the last couple weeks, I've gone for like a run slash jog slash walk. I mean, last week it was every weekday.
00:13:46
David Isaacs
and then I didn't do it on the weekend, but I did again this morning.
00:13:52
David Isaacs
And it was first time, like, my legs felt good enough to kind of test my lung capacity or my endurance.
00:14:00
David Isaacs
So that was kind of cool. Still been sitting and feeling all day, like, i have shin splints. I don't know what the specific archetype of the shin splints that I have, but they typically get better once i stop exercising.
00:14:16
David Isaacs
and some people say it's compartment syndrome. Um, not entirely sure. It's not good. I've had it, you know, pretty much all my life, but it's still like my left leg, uh, just still feels like there's a knot in it all day.
00:14:34
David Isaacs
don't have any like feeling like my foot's falling asleep or numbness or tingling or any of that. Um,
Adapting Physical Exercises to Health Needs
00:14:42
David Isaacs
but it definitely feels like, yeah, I might've been kind overdoing it a little bit.
00:14:48
David Isaacs
Um, So yeah, I mean, now I have to kind of make that decision. Do I take a step off? Do I take a break? Maybe not go tomorrow. Maybe try something else to do in the morning, just kind of get that exercise. But that's kind of all the fun of doing these things and just the speed bumps and the roadblocks and things that you
00:15:14
David Isaacs
come to that happened, I guess, and I'll try to figure out and make a decision and sometimes you make the wrong one.
00:15:23
David Isaacs
But the difference being that before I was doing this, I didn't really have a decision to make about it. So now I have the opportunity to make that decision.
00:15:34
David Isaacs
which I wouldn't have otherwise had, whether or not it's going to be the right one or the wrong one or maybe somewhere in the middle. But yeah, it's definitely like trying out these different things and figuring out what works for you, what works best for your body is fun.
00:15:52
David Isaacs
It gives you more stuff to do during the day.
00:15:58
David Isaacs
Not that I need more to do, but, you know.
00:16:02
David Isaacs
more and different than what I typically am doing.
00:16:07
The Big Dog
Yeah. Sometimes it's just something simple. Maybe it's just like a, maybe, you know, sometimes it could just be a a brain break from, you know, like work or whatever, trying to figure something else out. Take your mind off the main subject and think about something smaller, vice versa, you know, always kind of helpful. Yeah.
00:16:31
David Isaacs
Um, think I kind of like the prioritization and, know, trying to feed like kind of, you know, small little things to do. you know, even back in high school, I would be playing call of duty, but in between matches I'd be juggling a soccer ball or, um, you know, some people will,
00:16:54
David Isaacs
and and if sorry,
00:17:00
David Isaacs
Anytime I have something spicy, it's like my body freaks out and creates a bunch of like, yeah, not great. Anyways, they'd be running and wrestling and then you'd have like those hand grippers.
00:17:16
David Isaacs
So me like running it, like doing hand grippers or even if you're on the couch, you know, I've got a hand gripper next to the couch.
00:17:24
David Isaacs
that I'll just kind of mess around with because it's more I'm already sitting on the couch not doing anything but at least it makes me feel better about not doing something. What I really like to get more into is just stretching in general.
00:17:39
David Isaacs
feel like you know my range of motion and even running it's kind of a difference of you know me playing soccer growing up that you have more dynamic movement.
00:17:50
David Isaacs
So now i feel like all the the muscles from just going north to south are fine um but like my hips and kind of like my ankles and um that like could definitely use some strengthening and some more just you know side to side movement or like you know cutting right to the left or something um so yeah i don't know but uh yeah i'll be uh
00:18:22
David Isaacs
Just be doing it, experimenting it and figuring it out. Per usual.
00:18:28
The Big Dog
yeah i um it's always so funny like uh kind of on that maybe mobility um i was i just like randomly scroll instagram all the time and sometimes just like random videos where you're like i didn't even say it out loud so i don't even know how this video popped up but all of a sudden it was just like hip mobility i was like huh that sounds like all the symptoms that that I'm experiencing, maybe I should do these exercises. so like I started watching more and then obviously how the other algorithm takes over is, um, you know, was just, I feel like all my feet is now is just like chiropractor or, um, like PT exercises of just how to hit mobility and all that. But, um, I'm, I've started doing that more at night just cause when I wake up, I, I have the best of intentions to like, you know,
00:19:23
The Big Dog
do the Huberman of like going out and getting sunlight for 30 minutes, working out all this before my coffee. that doesn't happen a lot of the times I mostly try and do like some of that stuff at night. Um, obviously not the, the daylight thing, but, or a sunlight for vitamin C, but, I have been doing more of like hip mobility, um you know, strengthening or focusing on strengthening my core. Cause like my, um my hips, um,
00:19:53
The Big Dog
are all completely fucked up. Like my, the right side of my hip is higher than my left side. So I'm working on kind of exercises to, you know, balance that out. Well, my, um lower back is kind of like arched forward. Some of us are working on that. So, um,
00:20:14
The Big Dog
still it's less of the, the yoga stuff that I was doing before and kind of more just targeted things. But I, I mean, I've been doing this stuff for like probably four or five days and I already feel a lot better.
00:20:26
The Big Dog
i have a little bit more mobility. It's not like I can, you know, karate kick somebody or karate kick a can off the top of like a door, you know, like I'm not, not quite there yet, but I, I don't feel as much like lower back pain. I definitely don't feel sciatica anymore.
00:20:43
The Big Dog
Um, as, as often as I i did. So, um, yeah, it's just simple steps like that, that, um, make me feel better about where I'm going and, know, kind of my journey, um, in a broader sense about, so just, you know, I'm taking my health a bit more seriously. Like I just, as I went to the doctor, also had them do some blood work and i have some elevated numbers that I'm working on, but Um, you know, I'm kind of just like looking back behind the curtain of Oz and in this case, it's just my body. So, you know, we can, um, if we don't have as much data as we can, like we can't make it an informed decision.
Weight Loss Journey and Self-Esteem Boost
00:21:29
The Big Dog
So, you know, I'm taking things, uh, a lot.
00:21:33
The Big Dog
more seriously than i even on like my, like smaller stuff like that, like where I, you know, I thought I was doing great and it's like, you know, it's just a bit eyeopening. So, um, you know, am down almost 35 pounds now, like the last three weeks I've lost six pounds cause I've just been eating less and less and my deficit has gotten, you know, bigger and bigger. So doing things right, but we can always be doing things that better, you know, and, I don't want to take on all of this too much, but, you know, it's just like little things.
00:22:07
The Big Dog
And, you know, it's like my ADHD where it's just like if I get an obsession, then I get into that mode. But, um you know, my my low self-esteem has never been as high as it's been in a long time. So, you know, I feel better about my i myself each and every day, which is something I haven't been able to say in a long time.
00:22:29
David Isaacs
Yeah, that's great. I wish I could get more around to kind of like my self esteem. I guess I really never, I'm always kind of like near the middle.
00:22:44
David Isaacs
I don't know. In terms of the way that like I think about myself, but yeah, it's good to hear. And you're seeing kind of like that positive by being present and understanding.
00:22:58
David Isaacs
you know, how you, maybe how you used to talk to yourself or maybe now it's just, you know, better than how it used to be. but it's good insight to have, um, you know, your self-esteem and kind of the the path that you're headed.
00:23:14
David Isaacs
Um, cause I mean, you could probably look back and you've had discussion of, oh, you know, I'm down 10 pounds or now it's 20 and now it's 25 and now 35. um, it's good work. thirty five so good work
00:23:27
The Big Dog
Yeah, i'm i and I'm looking more at like the... so saying It's not you know it's about the destination, it's about the journey. and I'm kind of focusing on... I mean, yeah, i still have... Don't get me wrong, I still have... think 80... i'll take the exact number right around 80 pounds that I have to lose for my goal, right? But I've also lost 35 pounds, so...
00:23:53
The Big Dog
you know In one sense, it's like you're looking at you can look at it as you you still have a long road to go, or you can look at it as I've come so far and I've changed a lot of habits.
00:24:05
The Big Dog
and I'm choosing to focus more on that rather than like the negativity. used to at people... look at people um like I'll take my wife's cousin for instance you know he got into boxing when he was i think he had just turned 40 he's 46 now so he's been doing it for six years and i was like you know before that I would look at him and kind of like make fun of him like oh like you're a 40 year old dude trying to get into boxing like what are you trying to prove you know like I did that I did that when I was from 13 till was 23 I was like
00:24:38
The Big Dog
out but like really what comparison was kind of comparison was that other than insecurity and you know not looking within so um you know one good for him for doing that um two it's kind of inspirational for me to get back into it which is you i have a heavy bag now that i'm just kind of get back into to boxing which is always a great workout and um it's proven as a antidepressant um just to help clear your head.
Inspiration from Relative's Boxing Journey
00:25:09
The Big Dog
Sometimes punching something repeatedly, um who knew, would make you less angry. um Especially if it's just a bag rather than a person.
00:25:18
The Big Dog
So, um but I guess why I bring that up is like,
00:25:23
The Big Dog
um he spent his first, you know, not 40 years, or his first 40 years in not boxing. But like, now he is doing it.
00:25:34
The Big Dog
So we can either look at like, the longer scope of he wasn't really doing that. You know, he was just kind of you know, whatever. I think he was in skateboarding and building cars, you know, but now he's like improved his life. He's learned to self-defense. He's got something that's great for exercise, great for his, you know, like all of these benefits. Like you can choose to look at how I used to have just like, Oh, he's a four old schlub trying to like make it in the boxing world or something or whatever, you know, just to like make fun of them. And,
00:26:08
The Big Dog
But no, it's like, you know, you look at it from the progressive standpoint of he's doing something that he enjoys and he spends a lot of time doing it. And, um you know, he's he's improving himself, right? Like that's what life, especially as an adulthood, is kind of all about.
00:26:29
David Isaacs
Right. and I think it kind of comes from that that mindset and that understanding with doing things for yourself and all the experimentation of things. It leads you to that empathy for other people to once you understand like how much trial and error goes into something and like what that person would have had to try until they got to something that actually clicked for them.
00:26:56
David Isaacs
that made it so that they they could be consistent and led them down to a better path. Um, and yeah, I think that's beautiful. Um,
00:27:07
David Isaacs
And the same thing too with like how you were talking about, it's not the, it's the journey, it's not the destination. I think too, of like, you know, if somebody sets out to walk across the United States, you know, that's kind of the, the journey.
00:27:27
David Isaacs
Whereas, you know, if you were just to like drive somewhere and you're like expected to be there, I feel like sometimes that's just the the mindset that I get in well, I'm just expecting to be there at a certain time.
00:27:43
David Isaacs
But that's not the case. It's really like focused on your journey, your preparation, and what you have to endure to get to that destination.
Learning from Experiences for Personal Growth
00:27:56
David Isaacs
you're always always setting yourself up to make it so that like you might have a goal, you might try to get to your desk, you might get to your destination, but really about that like change in mindset that you've had that has allowed you to become this person now that you kind of want to like continue on too. So i think that's the hard part with kind of like trying to give other people advice or if somebody asks you, you know, well what would you do? How would you do it? And, you know, it comes back to just how much of our lives and our personal experiences and what we've learned along the way.
00:28:39
David Isaacs
It's very individualized. So, yeah, I mean, it's tough for, Well, it's tough for anyone to truly find something that they can commit to something that works for them.
00:28:51
David Isaacs
Um, and that kind of, even when somebody asks you that, it's like, they're not really thinking about it. Um, and it's hard. It's a hard thing to explain. It's like, Oh, I started out doing this and then that didn't work. And then I tried this and then that wasn't working. So I tweaked that a little bit and added this a few months later. Like, yeah, it's, um,
00:29:15
David Isaacs
It's tough, um but it's it's worth it. if you can you know When is a good time to pivot? When is a good time to push harder? When is a good time to pull back um and have that patience and that understanding that you're just you know continuing to evolve and continuing to grow?
00:29:35
David Isaacs
And that takes a lot of time. Like you said, someone at 40 years old gets into boxing and it clicks for them. So, you know, how long, what how many other things do they try?
00:29:48
David Isaacs
When did they get on this journey? You know, when they were 39 or when they were 19, you know, and how long it took them to to get to that point to even try something different, to try something new.
00:30:02
David Isaacs
So, yeah. Not to make it seem like it's not possible for anybody, but I i truly, truly feel and believe like some of those steps are learning more about yourself if you learn more about yourself then you can give yourself sympathy sympathy because you're putting yourself in your own shoes and you get to that understanding of you know why i wasn't able to do this before why i need to change things now um and it helps you to kind of have that better internal dialogue um
00:30:37
David Isaacs
and have that understanding for yourself the same that you would give to other people when you don't have as much information about, you know, their life, their struggles, their triumphs and and all that. So
Rowing Solo: Perseverance and Goal-Setting
00:30:51
David Isaacs
know thyself.
00:30:53
David Isaacs
I think that was Socrates from Ted Lasso.
00:31:00
The Big Dog
Yeah, um I mean,
00:31:06
The Big Dog
know, look at the woman who just crossed the Pacific Ocean from California to Hawaii in 43 days. um i think she just landed earlier. think
00:31:19
The Big Dog
it was late last week. uh yeah she took off like early june and she landed 44 days which shattered the record by a woman by a i think double the time and like the last time someone did it was 90 days and then she has to beat the male record by a week i believe like i mean she she sailed her she was a rowboat
00:31:41
David Isaacs
What was she doing?
00:31:51
The Big Dog
Uh, yeah, it was a, she she rode like solo row, like a rowboat from central California all the way to Honolulu, Hawaii.
00:32:03
The Big Dog
So that's like 2,300 miles. Yeah. And it only took her 44 days by herself to row that, that length. I'm not saying that like everyone has to row from California to Hawaii to really learn themselves, but yeah.
00:32:19
The Big Dog
i mean, she set a goal I don't know if she, I don't know if she set 44 days as a goal, but she set a goal that she wanted to go from her, I'm assuming her hometown to Hawaii, um, in a rowboat. I mean, she, you know, documented on how she like, um, you know, turned salt water to fresh water. So she'd be able to drink and kind of survive. She's only sleeping a couple hours a night, but you know,
00:32:47
The Big Dog
I mean, that's pretty character building. And again, I'm not saying that you have to do all that to extreme, but you know, she, I'm sure she, I haven't really read the, the pre story to it, but I'm sure she practiced and, you know, if she was determined to do that, good for her. And she accomplished her goal.
00:33:05
The Big Dog
um Maybe it was through a lot of trial and error. Again, I don't, I don't know, but um you know, it's pretty inspirational story and you know, we don't all have to have that length of a feat.
00:33:19
The Big Dog
You know, it could just be something as simple as, you know, drinking less pop, right? Like that could be your 2300 mile journey. You can start with drink. If you drink four sodas, a dream, maybe switch to like zero sugar or diet. And then, you know, slowly maybe drink three, you know, again, this is just an example, you know, um,
00:33:43
The Big Dog
I'm sure listeners and David don't agree to switch to zero sugar. That's fine. I'm just using as an example, but, and then, you know, you know, maybe you switch the carbonated water, like, you know, LaCroix and then, you know, you just slowly transition to water or something else, right? Like trial and error, you figure it out, but you have to set a goal for yourself and you roll that 23, a hundred miles. Damn you.
00:34:10
David Isaacs
Yeah, the ship's actually pretty cool. mean, I don't know how she, you managed pack enough food and water.
00:34:20
David Isaacs
Like, that whole ship's gotta be just like food and water.
00:34:29
David Isaacs
But yeah, I mean, she probably started out, like, I don't know how old she is or not, but yeah, maybe it was some hobby or something that she did, but I mean, everyone starts somewhere.
00:34:42
David Isaacs
So she had to have started somewhere. I don't know if I would ever get around to thinking that,
00:34:53
David Isaacs
like, no matter what I was doing, i wouldn't think that would be something that I could accomplish.
00:34:57
The Big Dog
right yeah i mean uh you know at some point in human history somebody said i'm going that egg into something delicious and then made an omelet you know you wouldn't think i'm like i guess you never really know what you're going to get until you try um you know and i
00:34:59
David Isaacs
But... Yeah, that's crazy.
00:35:20
The Big Dog
And who knows, maybe they, that person ate that raw egg first, you know, and they're like, this is gross. And then they're like, Hmm, I wonder if I heat it up. I wonder what will happen or if I freeze it, you know, whatever. I don't, I don't know. Fucking the first caveman probably did that.
00:35:35
The Big Dog
Um, you really know what, you really never know what your dream is going to be until you start, you know, uh, again, going from using my wife's cousin as an example, obviously he he hired a trainer, you know, he, I don't know what piqued his interest. Um, I know that he's had, he has Crohn's disease. So, um, you know, probably had to get some sort of high intensity workout to help maybe relieve his symptoms. And, you know, boxing was always a great thing to sport always advocate for. you know, it's,
00:36:14
The Big Dog
You can go to any kickboxing club and, know, it's always a great circuit workout, you know, and you learn a little bit how to defend yourself in some ways.
00:36:27
The Big Dog
And then, you know, it's easy way to learn a form and just hone your craft. You know, again, could also be rowing and you, you know, you start in like ah a simulator and, or maybe you're on like a row team in high school and college and,
00:36:43
The Big Dog
Maybe your goal is to go to the Olympics. Maybe it's to go from California to Hawaii. Who knows? Um, but you got to start somewhere. you gotta to learn yourself through the process.
00:36:58
The Big Dog
Um, or you you are going to learn yourself through the process and, know, you're going to find out what you are and aren't capable of. Um, Again, maybe it's something as simple as changing some of your dietary habits and, you know, again, using as an extreme going across the entire length of the Pacific Ocean, you know, to find yourself um and what you are capable of. So start small and then go big.
00:37:30
David Isaacs
Yeah. I mean, I think we're always thinking small too, no matter what.
00:37:34
The Big Dog
Yeah, to be clear, yes, I think so too.
00:37:35
David Isaacs
If you start, you start small and when's the next step? Oh, it's small step.
00:37:42
David Isaacs
Um, but you have the patience, you have the persistence, um, you have the confidence to whether it's the same thing that you were doing and or something else, you know,
00:37:54
David Isaacs
Um, you switch over, something's not working. Okay. We'll start small again. so even if you're going take a small step in the wrong direction, but you're going to take a ah small step and that's hopefully the right direction.
00:38:06
David Isaacs
Um, but yeah, just always thinking small and then, uh, where you start next step, small small, like, yeah, just, um,
00:38:21
David Isaacs
Really, once you start doing something, you kind of understand and realize how hard it is. And
Small Steps and Patience in Achieving Goals
00:38:27
David Isaacs
that's, I think, another good lesson for, you know, I'm not going out and I'm not running three miles. Like, i I'm not doing that.
00:38:35
The Big Dog
Right, right.
00:38:35
David Isaacs
You know, I'll run half a mile, maybe, or, you know, whatever you are in your capacity to do. But, yeah, you know,
00:38:47
David Isaacs
talk to yourself like a friend would talk to you. and You set your goals like how you would like, know, being friendly to yourself, to your body, to what you, what you want to accomplish.
00:39:00
David Isaacs
And then, you know, you go from there once you, you get better at it. Because yeah, I mean, even boxing, it's something that, he was able to keep up with for so long.
00:39:13
David Isaacs
but probably remembers when he, you know, just showed up one day. It was kind awkward and, um, he didn't really know what he was doing. Um, and where he's at today is probably massively different.
00:39:26
David Isaacs
mean, you see the videos online all the time about bodily transformations or, you know, whatever transformation. It kind of gives you the idea of like, yeah, I mean, these pictures are, you know, from these videos like three or four years ago. Like, oh, okay.
00:39:46
David Isaacs
and just gives you an understanding of how long something takes. but A little bit in the right direction compounds just so large into the future.
00:40:00
David Isaacs
That's really where it becomes having to be patient and doing these things.
Gratitude and Future Plans
00:40:11
David Isaacs
I think that's pretty much all for me. I'm going to give Daphne a walk. She's going to be pissed.
00:40:16
The Big Dog
Yeah, I think I'm a good. think I had all my topics that I wanted to today.
00:40:23
David Isaacs
Alrighty. Well, thanks everyone for listening. If you've gotten this far, thank you, Brian, for sharing your stories.
00:40:29
The Big Dog
Yeah, thanks, David. Appreciate it. Thank you for sharing yours. And we'll talk to you next week. And thanks for listening, everyone.
