I just had my first mug sale and you won't believe how much money I made. What is up shaping nation? This is Nick Torres here and very recently last Thursday I had my very first mug sale and you won't believe how much money I made. I made a grand whopping total of zero dollars. I didn't sell a single mug and it was kind of heartbreaking a little bit. I was a little bit disappointed, a little bit frustrated as well.

And I'm not gonna lie, I kept thinking about it all the time or since it has happened because I really wanted that thing to happen.

And this probably has happened to maybe a couple of you or a lot of you who are listening.

where you don't actually get to be able to sell your pottery. You put all this work, all that effort, and you even did all the marketing on Instagram and stuff, and you still weren't able to make a sale or maybe even just got one sale. And it can be very, very frustrating. And I know I am kind of frustrated, a little bit disappointed as well.
Reassessing and Finding Benefits

But here's why this is actually a good thing in my eyes. So I was definitely a little frustrated. I was pretty much kind of pacing around my house the day of this, like before the sale actually happened. And then afterwards, too, I couldn't even sleep because I really wanted to get a sale.

And I kept pacing where my house kept, you know, doing all these different like random things just to kind of keep my mind busy only for not to get any sales. And it's definitely heartbreaking. But here's why this is a good thing.

You see, we tend to want to blame other outside forces why we didn't get a sale. Oh, the algorithm didn't do its job or nobody saw my pots, yada, yada, yada, all this different stuff.

But here's what I think about it. Because I didn't get any sales, this it tells me two things. Number one, either my pottery isn't good enough or number two, my marketing isn't good enough. And it's probably the latter. So this is why it started motivating me to learn new tricks of marketing or new ways to show off my pottery.

And because I didn't get that sale, that first sale, it now drives me the next sale that I try to do, as long as I get one, I'm winning.
Setting Achievable Goals

because this sell you got zero next sell you can get one and now you are winning if you keep increasing that amount by one each time you are winning you are getting better you are getting better and that's the type of progress I want to see for my own sales and I think this could be helpful for you as well I'm just talking about my own experience for now

and because my next goal is to get at least one mug sold one mug sold out of you know five or ten however i make one mug sold that is all i want is one mug sold maybe with two mugs who knows but one mug for sure and i think it's important to set these small goals so you can try to reach them

Because now once you reach that goal, you can reach another goal a little bit higher. You keep getting a little higher and higher and higher and higher. But the reason why I'm telling you all this is because.
Analyzing Failures for Improvement

Just because something goes wrong today doesn't mean it's going to go wrong the next time or the next few times. It's a good day. You have to analyze these things on why you didn't get the sale, why you didn't make any money with your pottery.

And I came to the conclusion that either my pottery wasn't good enough or my marketing wasn't good enough. And so now those are two things that I have to improve on, making my pots look more detailed, documenting the process as well.

posting more videos and photos about my pottery so that more people get interested and also getting people onto an email list because I know that a lot of people artists use their email list to help them sell their pottery. So those are my three actions that I am going to be trying to do for my next sale.
