for example, Haley makes pottery for nerds. And so her pottery isn't going to appeal to everyone. And that's what we should want. We don't want our pottery to appeal to everyone. We want our pottery to be for a certain specific amount of people. Right? Very niche.

And if every single person liked your pottery, how are you going to learn? What are you going to learn from every single person that likes your pottery? You see, it's those people that don't like your pottery that you're going to learn the most. And you you know and because you're not going to learn just about your pottery, but you're also going to learn about the type of customers you don't want. Those type of things, that right? Because you can't appease everyone.

And that's fine. Sometimes the best solution is just to make what you want to make. Make the things that you want to make, right? Hailey makes pottery for nerds and for a while she wasn't doing that. She was making things that she thought would sell really, really well.

And then and like when she would do her sail, it just completely flopped. And then when she started making things that excited her and things that really brought her joy, which was the nerd pottery side of things, things started to go a lot better. But not everybody liked her pottery. And that's okay. But she learned from those people that didn't like those that pottery.

And she didn't make for them. She made for the people that did like her pottery or the people that actually liked her pottery. And she got she was able to get feedback from the people that didn't like her pottery. It's OK to have people not like your pottery. But the thing that matters most is, do you like what you're making?
00:03:18
Speaker
Because if you don't like what you're making, then what's the point of even making it? You know, I get it. We all have some. We all some some of us dream to maybe sell our pottery, and that's just something we're trying to make a living out of this. So we're making for other people. But if you don't like it at the end of the day, what's the point?
00:03:37
Speaker
We all got into pottery to because we enjoyed making the art. We enjoyed how it felt in our hands. We enjoyed seeing our creation come to life. That's why we got into pottery. And if you're not making for yourself, then what's the point? And that's why
The Role of Feedback in Innovation

it's so important to have those people that dislike your pottery because it gives you feedback. It gives you things on what either you should improve or you should stay away from those people. But either way, it gives you feedback and it helps you grow your pottery.

So if you people aren't disliking your pottery or if they aren't liking your pottery, you know maybe you're doing something wrong. Maybe try to change things up again. Maybe try getting a little bit bolder, getting a little bit out of the box with your thinking and start doing something that resembles yourself so that you can start making part of that you love, but not for other people. It's OK for people to not like your pottery. Hope you guys enjoyed the episode and see you guys in the next one.
