Speaker: Well, hello and welcome to this week's episode of the Purple Door Podcast, a friend's rewatch pod. I'm one of your hosts, Alistair, alongside Deanne. Deanne, how are you this Sunday morning?

Speaker: I'm awesome, Al. And I was just thinking in my head, i'm going to like Google like funny comebacks to that question because I'm always like, I'm awesome. I'm great. I'm great. You know, I feel like I need something good and random.

Speaker: ah You know what? I am looking forward to that on our next episode. it is Yeah, well... Don't hold me to it because i might forget. So I'll tell you, I record um once in a while ah a Frasier podcast called We're Listening. I'm like an occasional guest host. And the host, main host, Will, always says, I'm Will.

Speaker: And then I'm supposed to say, and I'm Alistair. And I always pull a line from the show instead of saying my name. So like on this one, it could have been like, you would say, I'm Deanne. And I would just say, and I'm so ready to party.

Speaker: And we've just fallen in like a habit and routine of doing that. I think I stole that from Steve because our friend Steve, that's how I got to know him, was on that podcast. um In fact, I know. Yes, he did do that. So I pay tribute to Steve that way. But it's a funny a funny way to to start the podcast that we do over there.

Speaker: Oh, my gosh. Yes. That's so fun. But ah yeah, you're doing all right today. Yes, I am upright and caffeinated. How about that? am equally upright and caffeinated too. My cup of coffee beside me. It's going to be a great day.

Speaker: Yeah, it is. Yeah. Well, let's see. We are discussing the one where they're going to party. Which I am excited to get stuck into. We had some some ah something unusual with with our um our bamboozled this week. We had several of the same questions. Kate went through them, as she always does. So we've ended up with no extra questions. I had to find an extra one at the last minute.

Speaker: You found, oh so you did find an extra one? Well, I was down to four. Oh! Yeah, so I needed to find a fifth. Dang, okay. Yeah, we were obviously looking at the same things this week.

Speaker: well There were some very obvious ones that jumped out. And, yeah, so I'm not surprised. Nope. Yeah, but it's good stuff. Good stuff. All right. Well, let's get stuck into bamboozled for the one where they are going to party. Who starts this week?

Speaker: ah Me. i do yeah I do. Fantastic. All all right. So, Al, first question. What color is the van and what is on it?

Speaker: Okay. So it's funny you mentioned it, and I don't know if I'm going to get this right, but I thought it was purple before I watched the show. It's kind of blue, greeny, and then it's got a lady who's riding a sort of serpent-y looking dragon with a sword that they might change to a baguette.

Speaker: Yes, and yes, with a lot light up parts. Yes. Yes, of course. Yes. Okay. that Joey knows. Yeah. Oh, I definitely know her.

Speaker: Yes. Well, here's what's funny. I thought it was purple too. Really? Okay. Yeah. And then I was like, because I had put that question in, I was like, oh, I need a double check and make sure it is purple. So I went back and it is, it's blue. And I was like, wow. That's funny that we both thought that. Yeah. In my head, it was purple till I saw it.

Speaker: Yeah. So there you go. There we go. All right. My first question for you. When Rachel tries to quit, what two items does she pull out of her drawer?

Speaker: Oh, a muffin and a pen. Look at you. Straight in there with the correct answer. Because I almost asked that question. See, where we're in each other's brain today. I love it.

Speaker: Okay. Oh, that means me. It does. yeah Okay. So in the in the scene where they're... Are you ready to party? or Or we're going to party? or No, he says, are you going to ready? are what no Yes.

Speaker: Yep. Anyway, so that scene where they're in the girl's apartment. What game's on the table? Oh, I have no idea. So I'm going to have to just guess that it is...

Speaker: are they playing checkers oh good guess no ah i was gonna guess the game of life but then i thought oh see that would have been way closer oh way closer ah but still not right still not right still not right monopoly monopoly and then there's two red coke cans on the table too we've discussed this before i think but how do you feel about monopoly as a game Oh, yeah, I know we have because I told you about the time that um I got frustrated and Philip will tell you that I flipped the table, but I don't believe you don't flat really have right. But just flip the board. i don't know.

Speaker: I love it unless people won't um trade with me or play with me or I don't enjoy losing. And um And, you know, right yeah ah because I got mad at my brother because he was winning. And so I was trying to sell him a property that would have helped to me, like, come back a little bit. Right. But he was just wanting me to have the slowest death of everything. Wouldn't put you out your misery. Right. Well, yeah. Yeah.

Speaker: ah yeah so anyway there you go all right well i should have gone with monopoly all right well i am going to ask you your second question all right when chandler first asks ross about going to party why is he initially hesitant uh because there's there's a oh god a something about bees You will get the point. About the bumblebee. Documentary? There you go. yeah A the documentary on the Discovery Channel about bees. Nice! Okay. Yes, well done.

Speaker: two for two. I mean... And this is in the day before you could just record it and watch it later. Exactly. He had to be there.

Speaker: Yes. Alright. So, while in that same scene where the Monopoly was on the table... Monica's walking around eating something.

Speaker: What's she eating? may I need to pay closer attention. She, again, no idea. I'm just going to have to go with a sandwich. ah Nope. it's a She's eating out the jar of peanut butter. Wow.

Speaker: That sounds horrible. I know. She's walking around with her spoon. Joseph does that. And I'm just like... but Couldn't do it. Could yeah not do it. Okay. Okay. Hang on. How do you feel about peanut butter? Do you like peanut butter? Not a fan at all. No. Okay.

Speaker: Okay. Now can tolerate a Reese's, but that's about the limit. Heck yeah. Yeah. Reese's peanut butter. It's probably not real peanut butter. I assume it's not. I sure it is. It's great. It's delicious. Peanut butter on a piece of bread, anything like that. No, I'm out. Can't do Yeah.

Speaker: See, I will go through phase and it's very small phase and it's every few years where I'm like, I want a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or I want a cracker with some peanut butter on it. yeah But like,

Speaker: it is The rest of the time, and I'm currently in this moment in my life where, no, that's no gross. Like, yeah, give me a Reese's. Get me a Reese's peanut butter cup. There you go. But don't get me a peanut butter cookie.

Speaker: Don't get me a peanut butter, like flavored pie or in fudge, peanut butter fudge. Nope. Can't do it. No. No. I'm right there with you. Joseph and Kate can eat all of those peanut butter cookies. Yes. yes Yeah, they can.

Speaker: yeah Yes, they can. Y'all go right ahead in and enjoy it. Not fan. All right. Well, I've got a third question for you. What is Gandalf's full name? Oh, man ah Ganderson is his last name. Well done. I thought that was the tricky part. No, because his first name is so normal.

Speaker: It's a very normal. It's like Matt or Ron. Oh, God. i'm going to give you a jeff I'm going to give you a clue that is this the name is the same as a fairly important character who appears later on in Friends.

Speaker: Deanna's thinking hard over there. Oh, God. Yeah. No. Oh.

Speaker: I mean, obviously, you've got half a point at least. Yeah. i i i Is it Matt? Matt? Oh, you got the right first letter. yeah Mark.

Speaker: No. my Mike. Mike. Mike. There you go.

Speaker: Now, I would offer to give you the full point and you'll tell me not to. yeah No, you can't. You can't. Well, it's okay. You're up two and a half to one after three questions anyway. So I think you're i think you're safe here. Man.

Speaker: All right. what you What have you got for me? Who was Alessandro's head chef before Monica? Who got fired? Oh, it was like the dad or the uncle of half the staff. Yeah, it was. that Is it Emilio?

Speaker: is Emilio! Oh my gosh. Wow. I am genuinely shocked. I got that one. Wow, nice. All right. Let's see. I'm going to need you to not get this, but let's see what happens.

Speaker: Where did Ross and Chandler go on the fishing boat with Gandalf? Oh, Nova Scotia. Oh, yeah, he did. Okay. yes they did And I would not have remembered that if I hadn't watched the next episode. ah Right. They tie Nova Scotia in again on the very next episode. Oh, yes. Yeah, I know what you're talking about. Yes.

Speaker: Yes. All right. Al, how did Joanna die? She got hit. Oh, she got hit by a car or a taxi. I think she got hit by a taxi. Mm-hmm. She sure I did read that there was a um there's a deep dark web theory that ah ah Sophie shoved her in front of it because Sophie's happy. That was quite funny.

Speaker: Yeah, no. i feel like if she did, if she did, she would not have been that openly happy. That's what I'm thinking. Yeah. No, come on. Like, if you're going to something like that, like, you better have some, like,

Speaker: Downplay that, man. Absolutely. Man. Yeah, okay. Now, let me, ah well, we can wait and talk to it, ah but talk about it later.

Speaker: But wait. Do I get one more question? I got another question. I want to talk about Joanna Dine, but we'll do that later. All right, Lista. Yeah, this is your victory. You have won by three and a half to three at this point. So this is your victory question here. All right. All right. How much does Monica get paid by the Chelsea reporter?

Speaker: Oh. I know she works one night a week. Yeah. And again, we'll be she says they don't pay me something.

Speaker: for But we get a lot of free dinners? yeah there's there There is a financial amount mentioned. Shoot, I have no clue. At all. She says they don't pay me a penny a word for nothing.

Speaker: oh Wow. A penny a word. A penny a word. wow okay but again that was almost like bonus because you have won three and a half to three i need to figure this out because even though we did tie a lot one two three four five six seven eight i've only won one at the nine you wow four one up so i'm gonna have to really knuckle down next week all right come on now you got this we got to do this absolutely But I feel like, but before we go, like yeah let's let, before we leave the bamboozled section. Yes. I feel like just for funsies, we should share our questions that we had the same because people might want to play.

Speaker: do it with i deleted mine. So I know you have. the Oh, I do. I highlighted in yellow because i can find my strike through. but yeah all right. So what did Ross bring to hang out with Gandalf?

Speaker: That was socks, snake bite kit, and passport. Very good. It's not going to be exactly the same as last week. All right. What's the name of the newspaper Monica wrote the review for? Chelsea Reporter, as we just mentioned.

Speaker: Yes. And then where is Alessandro really from? So this is one of those words if I ever see it written down, i say it in his voice.

Speaker: Like, because it's so downtrodden where he just goes, Lebanon. Like, he's ashamed of it because he's not actually Italian. Okay. So here's what's hilarious that you say that. I always think it that way too, but I didn't realize why.

Speaker: Oh, nice. Yeah, it's that downtrodden Lebanon. Yeah. That's funny. That's amazing. Oh, man. All right. Good. I'm glad. It's funny that we had so many the same this week.

Speaker: Alright, let's fire it. We're going to start outside Central Park. Monica and Phoebe are showing the gang their new van. um Joey thinks he knows that girl because there's flashing lights in certain places and I think that, I don't know, gives him some memories of something. Speaking of saying things a certain way, baguette is another one because of this. We're going to paint over it with a baguette, the way she pronounces both syllables. oh Okay.

Speaker: Whenever they very first come out, though, and then Ross is like, what do you want to show us? Because I can see is that made me laugh. and Because I was... It just made me laugh.

Speaker: Because the way he said it is, like, i don't know. It made me think of, like, Dazed and Confused. Like, but you know, there just... you did This...

Speaker: awesome van and it's one of those things that to me where you have to suspend reality because they're both completely broke they probably didn't need need need to buy van maybe they did but that's going to be at least a few thousand if it's running oh my gosh parking it in manhattan where are you going to keep this van Okay, so my dad and I, or my parents are taking a trip to New York in like next month.

Speaker: Or no, in in September. They're going in September. And they are driving. Like they're taking their little car. It's in August. They're going in August. I don't know what's wrong with me. Okay, but anyway, they're taking their little car, going all the way up there. And and so they're going to go to the Statue of Liberty.

Speaker: And I was like, Dad. ah and and then he was talking, he's like, you know, and then I'll park. And and i was like, dad, wait, you're going to drive in Manhattan. You're going to pay for parking in Manhattan.

Speaker: And I was like, and he's looking at me like, I'm crazy because hes he's like, have you like, whenever you've gone to New York, have you not? And I was like, no, we've always flown. And then we take an Uber or a taxi. Like that is what you do.

Speaker: yeah and And he was like, And so anyway, so we got in this whole discussion just about how crazy it is to even park in Manhattan and drive in Manhattan. Oh, yeah. And um and then I was like, I'm I'm a little more, i guess, sensitive to this because of all the research and things that we've done about how much and how difficult it is to park and yeah and pay and drive in Manhattan. Yeah.

Speaker: It's just nuts. I've driven it at least once. Maybe more than once. I can't quite remember. But it is. You've take a life in your own hands and lay on the horn. And I remember we were in a rental car.

Speaker: And we did it. And kate's Kate was like, I would literally just get in the car and leave it here. Call the rental place. Tell them where it is. And apologize. Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker: Well, that's so funny. But yeah, now my dad's talking about I was like, no, dad, like, don't, especially considering y'all are going to be in Manhattan in the middle of the day. Like in the middle of the day. It's the getting in and out of it is actually to me. That was the thing like on the in the various tunnels.

Speaker: Yeah, it's madness. It's yeah. Yeah, so I'm like, just park it in New Jersey and take the train. Yeah, that's what we literally, when we went with the kids the last time to New York, we we stay in New Jersey. I mean, that's what we've done. And then you get the train in and you don't have to worry about any of it. And doesn't end up being more expensive. It ends up being cheaper.

Speaker: Yeah, because yikes. but Anyway, yeah. the Suspension of reality. Maybe somebody just gave her the van because it does have a waterbed in the back, you know. This is true. And ah yeah, remember I do enjoy watching, how is it, Owning Manhattan? The Ryan Serhant Netflix thing about expensive properties in New York, one of these kind of property shows. I enjoyed that one a lot. And I mean, there are people who literally, like instead of selling just houses, their specialty is parking spaces because they can go to, I mean, hundreds of thousands of dollars to purchase a parking space.

Speaker: Oh, my God. Yeah. And, you know, that yeah ah sometimes it's the negotiation. People are buying a $3 million dollar apartment and they also want a parking space. that That's $400,000.

Speaker: So it's all it's all part of the dance. It's, yeah, it's crazy. Yeah, it is. Crazy, crazy. So maybe they'll find somewhere to put this this van with the baguette on the side. I love the idea of that. Just paint leaving everything else as is. Yes. Well, and removing the water pad out of the bag.

Speaker: That's true. That's just amazing. Uh, we go over to the girl's apartment. Monica is going to fill in. I was going to ask you who she's filling in for this the Chelsea report. soantro larry I thought you would know that, um, cilantro Larry.

Speaker: Okay. Do you like cilantro? i i am I wouldn't say like I love it, but I like it. like Certainly, yeah I know it kind have is polarizing. So I'm definitely on the it's good side of things. Okay. Did you know? okay And maybe you know.

Speaker: These random facts, I don't know if they're normal for people to know and hang on to or not. But like people that really, really hate cilantro, it tastes like soap.

Speaker: and This is what I've heard. Yes, and it's because they're actually allergic to something in it. Really? Yes, and that's how you know is if it tastes like soap.

Speaker: Interesting. Uh-huh. Yeah. So weird. yeah Yeah, I've just, because it doesn't bother me, I've never really thought. so you Do you like it? like a you i do. Yeah, like, yeah. But I know people who will pick it off. Oh, yeah.

Speaker: Emily Jackson, George's kindergarten or a teacher. Fred's kindergarten teacher. Sorry. yeah Fred's kindergarten teacher. Yes, she is one that she would pick it off. You had to order no cilantro.

Speaker: No cilantro. Interesting. Yeah. It's just never fazed me. Yeah. um Well, they might have cilantro on all these free meals Monica's going to get to take them out on. she's got her She's filling in for cilantro, Larry, with the Chelsea Reporter. The opportunity to influence dozens of people.

Speaker: LAUGHTER

Speaker: um But Chandler comes in and he's very excited to see Ross and asks if he's ready to party. Ross doesn't get it, but then realizes gand and and what not quiteia is it Gandalf, Gandalf, Gandalf, you would probably know better. Gandalf. See, now, and that's a common misconception. Just because I enjoy Star Wars and Harry Potter does not mean I like Lord of the Rings because I actually hate it. Really? It is so boring.

Speaker: so boring and so long epics are like that are not my jam but ah just because it's i i say that i don't know but no i don't like it don't i fall asleep if we watch the movies i i could not get into the books it's too many weird words and names and things that make no sense and i just just not no no thank you it's not for me but yeah Gandalf Gandalf is coming Chandler Ross are going to take the next day off of work they're going to invite Joey it's all very exciting but it it is and Joey is just like why are you calling that yeah he's like Gandalf the wizard

Speaker: He's so clueless. He's just like, didn't you read Lord of the Rings in high school? yeah No. No, oh I didn't. No. It's so funny. He's so beautifully clueless. Mike Gandalf Ganderson. anderson yeah um after I should have looked this up. I wondered if by any chance it was named after somebody, like you know a crew member or somebody, you know to put that name in there.

Speaker: Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I didn't didn't look that one up. The sort of B plot of this episode is Rachel's office. We're going to go over there and she wants to apply for an assistant buyer's job in Junior Miss. assistant buyer in Junior Miss. Yeah, lucky for her, or so she thinks, Joanna is on the hiring committee.

Speaker: Joanna just is the worst. She kind of is. like like this Her behavior is just abhorrent. It really is. It is. And she's so manic. like All over the dadgum place. Yeah. and then but But what that takes me back to is like Chandler describing her dull.

Speaker: That's a very good point. There's nothing because dull about her. Yeah, and so i hit I don't know, but even whenever they were together, like, and I don't know, i don't know, like, why she's just manic.

Speaker: yeah she's not you love her or hate her she's not dull um no that we've seen um speaking of chandler we go to the boy's apartment i think this is where he's like i'm so excited i could vomit or something he's like pacing back and forth um and is he explaining to joey i've kind of forgotten yes joey that he ended up on the fishing boat lovely country up there no yeah in nova scotia Yeah. Have you ever been there? I know you've got a Canadian connection through, like, is it your father-in-law? Something like that. Yes. Yes. um No, I have not. But I met people from Nova Scotia and then people from, oh my God, it's fallen out of my brain. But um but no, always just straight up straight straight up north of Minnesota into Ontario. Right. Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah. Yes, youll but I've been to Ontario, but that is it, unfortunately, in Canada. So we'll need to right that wrong. Yes. Get up there. um Ross comes in. He is ready. This is where I think he has his socks, his socks, snake bike kit and the passport. Right. It's not going to be exactly like last time. You know this better than I do. Actually, i was thinking maybe it's the when this was filmed. You don't need a passport to get into Canada, right?

Speaker: So, um yeah, you you do. Kate's saying yes. Yeah, you do. um we had But like our kids, we just carried our ah their birth certificates. Right.

Speaker: Okay, so maybe that's it. I didn't think it was quite as strict as you know going overseas. No, and well, so, and and it's changed over the years. Right. But sometimes you have to.

Speaker: The last time that we went up, it was they were pretty serious about it. Gotcha. Yeah, and then COVID changed everything. Trump being the first time changed everything. and then um And then prior to that, it was a little less lax, but we've had to have our passports every time. Okay, maybe I'm just thinking, because I know like the Mexico border, there's been things that have changed.

Speaker: Kate, I think, is looking it up right now. Yeah, she is. Yeah, it's what she does. And you're right, the rules change. Obviously, it's another country, need to pass over to yeah another country. But I know there's there's kind of ways around that, or like depending on where you live or what you do, like there's people who go to school and walk across the border. Kate is about to inform us.

Speaker: Okay. Yes, you have to have a passport. If you're going by land or sea, then there are other ways that you can do it. um Like if you have an enhanced driver's license from like Michigan, Minnesota, Vermont, Washington,

Speaker: or a trusted traveler program thing. That's what I was thinking. That's it. i'm not I'm sure you could hear. So, be yes, so yeah if you're flying in, passport. But if you're on, like, a bordering state, you can get an enhanced driver's license to get across. Yeah. Which I think might, there might be something similar on our southern border with that our neighbors in Mexico.

Speaker: Yeah. Something like that. But you said, ever-changing. And ah so whenever we went the first time to to visit my father in law up there, um we I had lost my passport.

Speaker: Like I had a passport from whenever I went to Mexico and Germany and and all that. And um I couldn't find it. And so we had to go to the the passport office in Dallas. Mm hmm. And then they had to mail it because we had to leave in order to meet all the timelines to get there and all of that. So they mailed it to Joseph's grandmother's house in Minnesota.

Speaker: And they overnighted it there. And it was there waiting for me whenever we got to Minnesota. Excellent. good Yeah, yeah, it was expensive and very, very stressful. I don't recommend that always apply for your passport 90 days out always. Absolutely. I used to when I had a my green card here.

Speaker: Guess this has been four or five years ago, because I became a citizen two years ago, maybe three. um I was at JCPenney in Denton where we live and was flying out to Scotland on the Monday, got home and realised I'd lost my wallet with my green card in it.

Speaker: And I'm flying out two days later and major panic. I called an immigration lawyer. I was like, what do you do? you know and know, and it was a good couple of hours. It felt like days, but could somebody had found my wallet near where I'd parked. I'd obviously dropped it.

Speaker: They had taken the, what evidently type they took the money and then dropped it. Actually, it it was found somewhere else way away from where I'd parked. So somebody picked up, taken the money, dropped it somewhere else. Somebody else then picked up the wallet and took it into Penny's. And I was like, thank I mean, I didn't care about the money at that point. It wasn't much. It was the green card. That was the thing. yeah Which thankfully, they they I think they could be valuable in the wrong hands was behind my driver's license. So I had the pennies lady. I was like, can you can you please check to see if that's there?

Speaker: And thankfully it was. And managed to get home. But yeah, take care of your travel documents. i think Seriously. Yes. And don't don't just trust that you think you know where something is. Check 90 days out. Smart. Always.

Speaker: Well, Joey, he can't go um initially with Gandalf and the boys because he has an audition, he's going to catch up with them later. yeah um And this is when Chandler gets the phone call and Gandalf is unfortunately stuck in Chicago. Ironically, where Kathy is, as we found out in the the previous episode.

Speaker: Yes. um We never really find out right how Ross and Chandler know Gandalf. It's from college, I'm assuming. It's just my guess. Yeah. I just, yeah, I figured that was where.

Speaker: That was it. Yeah. We go over to somewhere in Bloomingdale's. Rachel's having her interview and Joanna is just laying into it, giving her a super tough time. But I was going to ask you the thing she was giving her tough time about the filing system system, the bagel, carrying coffee, being overly friendly with designers. I mean, she just drags her across the coals.

Speaker: She does. And it was just. Bopping in and adding things. And then later you find out she also told them all that she was drinking binge. She enjoys an occasional binge or ah yeah a drinking binge, and an occasional drink.

Speaker: ingbe inba yeah I mean, just, this is not how you go about it. If you want to keep her. No, just, just terrible. Um, but on, on good news is Monica's first review is out. We go back to the girl's apartment. She's written a bad review, but Alessandro's, um,

Speaker: really tearing them apart but maybe it's well deserved uh maybe the food is that bad and then alessandro shows up he rings somehow he finds out where monica lives and well apparently this is what he does yeah that's right yeah i've i've got other two other reporters i gotta to go He'll yell at them.

Speaker: Phoebe lets him in the building. ah just It's just there's something really Phoebe-esque about that. ah Monica told Alessandra the we the waiter was carrying the breadsticks in his pants. The marinara sauce was awful.

Speaker: And she did say that they accept discover card, which they do not. Yes. So she will do a retraction on that. yeah Yes. Yes. I do think it was quite noble of her to offer to show em how to make like decent sauce.

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Kind of weird, but good on her. Like she's, you know, once. Yeah. ah Well, and for somebody who. ah She's so interesting, right? Because she is.

Speaker: ah very like she doesn't want confrontation like that ends up being the ah whole thing right it's the confrontation and everything but she is so confident in this like I like it I like it. I'm like, yeah, girl, you do know your stuff. Yeah, it's not afraid. Yeah. yeah and And so I like that a lot. That's a really good thought. Yeah, going to meet when it's actually just showing him how to cook. That's her wheelhouse where she's confident.

Speaker: She's like, yeah, let me take you on this marinara journey, if you will. I like that. say yeah I hadn't thought about it that way. um we go back over to rachel's office rachel is confronting joanna speaking of kind of being strong she is she's ready to quit i think she knows her job might be in jeopardy here but she doesn't care she is going to confront her and ask her if she really wants her to quit and she's gonna cry not because she's sad or angry just because i'm having this conversation yeah It's me making a, oh, what's her name? um

Speaker: The other assistant. It's suddenly going to my head. ah Sophie. Sophie. She's making Sophie uncomfortable. No, she's not. Sophie can't do anything right. You're completely useless. Rachel tries to quit. She gets the muffin and the pen out of her desk. And then Joanna kind of breaks down and said that she only said those things because she doesn't want to lose her and offers to create a position, an assistant by a position. in this department for her yeah which uh i like rachel's line of you know say more things like that yeah um so that seems like seems like things are going to be going well for rachel at this moment in time wa po walk not for long

Speaker: and we go to the boys apartment Joey comes in and he's wondering what Chandler and Ross are doing they're very sad sack they're watching the TV and he's like we don't need that Gandalforf whatever it is he calls them you know we can do this ourselves and at this point Chandler and Ross yeah they're on board let's go out and have a night of fun of debauchery whatever it is that they're going to get up to see what happens See what happens. See, I enjoy a time like that every once in a while.

Speaker: Like as long as you got time to just see what happens. Yeah. know? Yeah. um Yeah. That's funny.

Speaker: Yeah. I do enjoy being on like a road trip where you don't have to be somewhere at certain time and you can just take the detour, stop off somewhere. Yeah. Get your picture taken with the world's largest rocking chair.

Speaker: indeed indeed the world's largest spur yeah why wouldn't you why why not yeah why not that is the best uh we're in the girls apartment monica has revealed she has been offered the head chef job at alessandro's uh i think i'm trying to remember who's there at this point i think Rachel then tells Monica and Phoebe she got the job, ah you know, and is going to have walls. She's very excited about having walls.

Speaker: Yes. Yeah, which is is's kind of sweet. Like, I mean, that is a big step when you go from, know, getting your own space like that. It's ah like, I get it.

Speaker: I get it. It can be i like an emotional moment that you've achieved something. yeah and good for Rachel for that. Yes. Phoebe comes in. She's got ah got a job for the catering company. It's a wedding reception. She's excited as she should be. And then Monica breaks the sad news to her that she's going to have to quit the catering company. She just feels it's snowballing, um which is exactly what you would want if you were starting a company.

Speaker: and i I really feel for Phoebe in this moment. I mean, to me, she is genuinely upset. Yeah, because she's excited. She's made her plan. She's got this going. She's the hard one you know and Monica's the cooking one. and she's the i don't remember what word, but I'm pretty sure it was a bad word. ah but you know yes whenever it It's her...

Speaker: yeah Yeah, I feel for Phoebe at this but this time. Yeah. yes Yeah. I think Monica is in the... Like, I get it, but I think Monica is in the wrong... i mean, i yeah I get why she accepted the job.

Speaker: Right. I think she was initially a bit dismissive of Phoebe. I don't know. I think she could have maybe handled it better rather than being wrong. Yeah. Well, it's ah I think it was because... she got offered the head job at alessandra she took it she's all excited about it and that the fact that she was doing this catering business with phoebe was an afterthought like it wasn't anything that even popped into her brain which i get but like you owe some very serious apologies yeah i get it too you gotta handle it right especially when phoebe's just put out the money for that van

Speaker: Yeah, I think. but actions Yeah. And everything just went so fast. Right. Because it's like everything happened all at once. Yeah.

Speaker: yeah so kind of i feel for this moment we go down to central park the boys are stopping off for a coffee before going back out i don't know if i could ever relate have have ever related to a scene and friends more than this one like they want to be all jazzed up for going back out they want and then but they sit down and Oh, they're done. They are exhausted. Yeah. And I was thinking about this. This is what I was going to ask you. i was trying to remember the last time I went out for fun past midnight.

Speaker: I couldn't even tell you. Couldn't even tell you. A very long time ago. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. ah this This week I had a ah ah but a very fun night.

Speaker: a very fun night. And it was kind of random. Yeah. And it was because um I went with Haley. She had um tickets to drunk Shakespeare in Dallas.

Speaker: And she had bought two tickets like a while ago. and i was like, yeah. And I was like, i I'll be back at work and I'll probably be tired. you know, we'll we'll just kind of see if I can come or not. Right. And so if you find somebody else, like I'm not offended, like it'll be so great.

Speaker: And then. I talked to her on Wednesday and we, Joseph had, we, you know, we're looking for a car for Fred that, you know, we'll be able to make the trip back and forth. However, many billions of times or whatever. Right. And, um, and we were supposed to go look at a car and I was exhausted and it just, you know, whatever. Well, I got home. And so I had told Haley, you know, I was like, yeah, no, I'm probably i i can't come. And she was like, OK. And I was like, you have somebody else to go. and she was like, no, I am going go by myself.

Speaker: And I was like, oh, so I got home. And Joseph said that um the guy um anyway, the guy had said, you know, that he wasn't able to meet to show us the car anymore.

Speaker: And um he's like, so you should go with Haley. And so I was like, okay. So I got in my car and I had, I was beat and I was tired, but I was like, yeah, I'm going to go. good for you I went and we had so much fun and we went, it was in deep Ellum. And we went to dinner ah late after and I got home way too late on a school night. and Good for you. you good yeah it But it took me two days to recover. Well, we don't worry about that. No, no, because I feel great now. And i it was a very enjoyable, fun time with lots of laughs. So.

Speaker: Excellent. Yeah. um well Well, they are certainly exhausted. I bet it may have taken them a day or two to recover. I love that i love the the vision of Ross using his socks as mittens or something. Yeah, because he doesn't want to touch anything. Yeah. a Yeah. let's See, i'm not I'm not like that.

Speaker: you know But whenever he's talking about how we're just not 21 anymore. i want to sit in a comfortable chair and watch television and go to bed at a reasonable hour. What what if I want to throw in some Kenny G and take a bath? yeah No, we're not women. That's right. I was going ask you, but i thought you would know this, what Chandler ordered um in the in Central Park.

Speaker: his Oh, decaf. He gets something else. Oh, he does. Yeah, ross Ross and Joey get decaf and then he asks for something else. Oh! Hot water with lemon. That's the one. Because ah it was so loud in there. And then that's what they that sent them on their little quest of and just not wanting to be out and going all the time. Yeah, I love going out, but I like to be home at a reasonable hour, like I'm right there with them. Yeah. um

Speaker: We're still in Central Park, or it it's like later on. Phoebe is going to hear Monica out. Monica has come up with a long list of ideas for the van. Flower delivery, bakery delivery, pizza delivery, but she's kind of getting the idea that fabe's Phoebe's maybe not into delivering or picking up. um those things those things are not going to happen and monica says that you know she's going to stick with the catering business which i mean i'm i don't know i was thinking is she doing that to try and get phoebe to say no do it or is she genuinely gonna i think she's genuine i think she's genuine i couldn't i couldn't make up my mind on that one

Speaker: Yeah. Kate agrees with you. She's just leaned to the side and and did the same head motion. Yeah, no. Because i you're looking for a pattern of behavior, right? Right. And Monica, that's not a pattern of her behavior. That's true. She's not manipulative. She's not manipulative like that, no. I mean, she even thought that maybe maybe Phoebe could form the new A-team.

Speaker: Yeah, which is, and Phoebe likes that idea. It's a great idea. Joseph went through a whole phase where he wanted to get one of those old vans. 100%. Because he was an A-team van. That would be so cool. And I'm like, no that would not be cool.

Speaker: The fun of converting that into camping a camping thing would be superb. Yeah. i'm I'm on. Me and Joseph and I, I'm in for this idea. Y'all have so much fun doing that. Well, if he ever finds one and you want to shoot the idea down, have him call me because I hate to tell you, but I'm going to be ah on that side. All right, buddy, let's do it. Well, we we go back into it. Oh, no, that's it. So Monica does say, you know what Or Phoebe says, you know Take the job because obviously it must be very important to her to make up this huge list. I think the right conclusion has been reached.

Speaker: Yes. They're both happy and made the right choice. This is where we go back over to Rachel's office in Bloomingdale's and Joanna has died. i was going to ask you again. I should have put this question in there. Who is it that's cleaning out Joanna's office?

Speaker: ah Mrs. Somebody. Mrs. Somebody. It's Mrs. Lynch. She's clearing out the office. Joanna was hit by a cab and it turns out that she hadn't quite sent in the paperwork or whatever needs to be done for Rachel's new position.

Speaker: Sophie comes in Couldn't be happier. The sun is shining. She is having a great day, is Sophie. Rachel assumes she doesn't know but it turns out she does.

Speaker: Um... yeah We end this episode right in Alessandro's. There we i had it written down, actually. Chef Emilio, he's been fired, even though he was like family, which is actually the case for many of them. um that Introduces Monica.

Speaker: the staff not welcoming kate noticed something i didn't see um like you i think she pays attention to these these sort details really well as monica is giving her sort of welcome speech there's a big can of corn on top of the fridge i think is behind her yeah she changes position and spins around yeah you noticed that i did i did um But I didn't know that notice that it was corn. I just did notice that it was changing.

Speaker: Yes. But yeah, how funny. Yeah, she noticed that. And yeah, a pretty of a frosty reception for Monica, which I think is kind of understandable, given that a obviously Emilio had a close relationship with many of the people there. yeah Tony, Carlos, Marie, please tell your father how much you're going to miss him. Oh, Poor old Monica. It's going to be a bumpy ride.

Speaker: yeah it is and i liked that she was trying to give some speech about making the recipe you know a dollop of this and ah you know that's right smidge of that yeah pinch and uh yeah and a dash yeah and then she realizes yeah it's not going over well Yeah.

Speaker: the Well, let's see. Who do you think? We've kind of come to the end of this episode. Who would be your Gunther Central Park? Monica. Monica. Monica is. Because I'm really i'm excited to kind of watch how and that that one scene, and I talked about it as we were going through, but that one scene with Alessandro, whenever you see her confidence and her, you know,

Speaker: I liked that a lot because, ah you know, thinking about whenever they were doing the catering business and she wouldn't go and ask for the money, she wouldn't ask for, you know, and it's like, if you did a good job, like it's okay to ask for the money and, you know, but seeing that, that confidence and then we'll see over time that confidence grow and, and ah her become, Or I guess her work self will start to mirror her he self self.

Speaker: Because, yeah i don't know, if that makes sense or not. It does make sense. And I hadn't really caught that until you brought it up. And I'm like, yeah, you're absolutely right. Yeah. making that sauce in a similar vein, I suppose i actually went with Rachel because of the way she stood up with to Joanna.

Speaker: Yeah, this is her dream job. She could easily just kind cower down and go, you know what? I'm just going to deal with it. Cause this is my dream job, but she was willing to risk it to not be disrespected like that. Yeah. Okay. Super cool.

Speaker: So I had Rachel at first for that same reason. And then, but I want to go with Monica, but Rachel, absolutely.

Speaker: Because she was, and and then i feel so bad for her because she's like, you know, i didn't know y'all were so close. And she's like, so close. She's thinking about So close to being in a system fire. So close. So close.

Speaker: um but I love that we've chosen two different characters for the same reason. I think that's kind kind of cool. All right. What are we measuring? and snake bite kits, of course. What else could there be? i'm just saying. Yes. Snake bite kits. Where do you land with this one?

Speaker: I am at eight and a half snake bite kits. So as a snake bite kit or eight snake bite kit and a snake nibble. If it just nips you in the ankles. Yeah. Right. Just a nibble. Just a little nibble.

Speaker: I love it. Well, i'm I'm sticking with eight. It's a solid episode. It's definitely some funny, some funny moments. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I actually, it's one of those ones I enjoyed it more than I remembered it.

Speaker: Yeah. there was ah There's some funny, funny stuff in there. Absolutely. Yeah. Well, let's see. Next week is the one with the girl from Poughkeepsie. Yes, and I have a story to tell whenever we get there. Oh, I cannot wait. But is that about... Yeah, no. It's it's just something silly. Well, I am looking forward to Any final thoughts before we wrap up this week?

Speaker: ah No, but exactly what you said. This is a good, solid episode. Yeah. and it With some funny parts, but I would like to point out Barry Ross liked Once again, the Ross-o-meter is kind of low on this one.

Speaker: I'm just saying. And my score is pretty high, so. There's something to it. so I'm wondering if there's something, yeah. Yeah, without a doubt. Well, all right, next week again, the one with the girl from Poughkeepsie. But as always, everybody out there, thank you so much for listening to the Purple Door podcast.
