Speaker: Hello and welcome to this week's episode of the Purple Door Podcast, a friend's rewatch pod. I'm one of your hosts, Alistair, alongside Deanne. Deanne, how are you today?

Speaker: I am just awesome, Al. How are you doing? Doing wonderful. Yeah, it is, I think, officially our last 100 degree day. So I'm quite excited for that to be in the rearview mirror.

Speaker: That would really be pretty cool. You know, um, yesterday and the super hot, I went to six flags for a couple of hours, um, with George and Haley and we met my brother and Willow. And we were there just for a couple of hours. Road tormentor. Very nice. A good time was had by all. George georgia enjoyed it.

Speaker: George enjoyed it. So he's a little thrill seeker. um And Haley enjoyed it too. It's it's such a good, i know we've talked about this, but just a good time. But yeah,

Speaker: Yeah, but it was I have felt dehydrated and kind of ooky ever since. And i don't like that. I like to be out doing things. I don't enjoy feeling.

Speaker: run down. I'm right there with you. I went for a bike ride this morning, but it's a few things on. And as I do on Sunday mornings, had to call, or I had to call, I call my parents on Sunday morning. I always do. And just life took over. So i didn't get to leave until about 1030. And I cycled three or four miles. was like, I'm turning around to going home because yeah it just, you don't realize quite how the heat impacts you until it does. And, I was like, yeah, yeah I'm just, I'm going to turn around now. And, and that was that it's, it's annoying. Cause I'm like you, I like to be doing things outside and yeah, it's yeah just, just a bit miserable, but before we know it, gorgeous temperatures will be here.

Speaker: i am excited. Looking forward to that. So I'm about to throw a big old wrench in everything. Are you ready? Yeah.

Speaker: I've got no idea what's happening. I am ready. know. All right. Let's do it. I'm just going to ask you some quick questions. Okay. And then we'll play bamboozled.

Speaker: All right. And we'll do the next thing. I love it. All right. Sure. All right. So, Al. Yes. Tell me a number. All right. I'm going tell you number, and the number is seven. Okay. What about a noun?

Speaker: A noun? Can it be any noun? Person, place, or thing. Any noun. Okay. Kate. So that's a proper noun. Is that okay? like Wife.

Speaker: Yeah. Okay. Oh, yeah. Wife is better. Okay. Okay. ah A plural noun. A plural noun. Okay. Cars.

Speaker: Cars. Okay. An animal. Well, that's my dog barking in the background, so we've got to go with dog. Okay. A verb.

Speaker: Well, barking seems too easy, but barking it barking it be. Okay. A place. A place. Let's go with Scotland.

Speaker: An exclamation, something that you yell. Uh, woohoo. Okay. Okay. and What about another noun?

Speaker: And I think I figured out where this is going. Another noun. Um, let's go with swimming pool or just pool.

Speaker: Okay. Another number. It's a lot of pressure on a former teacher to make sure I know what know. I know. You're doing great. You're doing great. Number one. Number one. Okay. Another noun. Okay.

Speaker: Can go with a tree? Mm-hmm. All right. Something alive. Something alive. All right. Snake.

Speaker: And what's a person you know? first Can I go with your fine self? Can go with? All right. Sure. all right right. What about an occupation?

Speaker: An occupation. All right. That is going to be, let's go with a paramedic. Oh, interesting. Yeah.

Speaker: Wilson is giggling away over there. Okay. A verb? ah verb? ah a Skipping. Okay. An adjective?

Speaker: um Let's go with a excitedly.

Speaker: Would that work? No, because that's an adverb. I suppose, yes. why So adjective describes the noun. Right. um Strong. Okay. And then a celebrity.

Speaker: Let's go. Let's go with one that's mentioned in Friends. Yasmeen Blee. Okay. And then a part of the body.

Speaker: um all right again i'm trying to be friends related where ross thinks that rachel loves his hands so hands it is

Speaker: all right excellent all right right i got no idea what's going on although i think i now have a hint from from this game being done before in my life but go let's run with it okay Wait, not this. We got to move on to Bamboozled. All right, Bamboozled. And that will give me a minute to get this situated.

Speaker: I see. I see. Okay, okay. Bamboozled, unfortunately, you you are up because you'll have to tell me who goes first in this week's Bamboozled. And that is me because it's an odd number.

Speaker: Nice, nice. All right. What is the name of the theater Chandler and Ross go to to see Kathy's play? Okay, I think I know this. I think because I wasn't sure if it was the theater or if it was the name of the play, I might be thinking about something else. I just saw, so is it in the square?

Speaker: it is something in the square. ah Okay. I don't think I caught what it was in the square. So we're going to have to go just make something up.

Speaker: um um Romance in the square. Ooh, so close, but no. No. All right. But not really that close.

Speaker: Not really that close. Circle. Circle. Circle in the square. Oh, next time. That was pretty darn close, though. Not close enough, though, I think. but I mean, you got three out of four words.

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. I could have given you a hint. You could have, but no, it's quite all right. um Okay. Your first question is, when Joey stands on a chair to look for the donut he may have hidden, what color's the chair?

Speaker: Oh, he's wearing brown boots. That is incredibly observant of you to notice the boot color.

Speaker: But it's the chair we're looking for. I know. Is it white? Well, you know, I should clarify. It's the cushions. I don't know what color the wood is, but the cut they on the on the base and the back, they are a certain color.

Speaker: Red. Unfortunately, they are purple. Oh! That's what it jumped out at me. Yes. Dang. Yes, they are purple. All right. Yeah, and he's wearing jeans.

Speaker: But anyway, go on. I can see it in my head. but You're fine. You're fine. all right. We're off to a struggling start, both of us. But your next question for me. All right. What color is Kathy's button that gets flung into the audience?

Speaker: That, again, i thought about looking at it to see what is this button and didn't catch it So I'm going to have to just take a random guess at green.

Speaker: No. right. One more color. i'm just going to throw it out there as a red button. No. Oh, struggling start. No, it was gold. it almost looked like a gold coin, but it was a button.

Speaker: But yeah, it was shiny and gold. All right. Well, let's see if you can get off off the mark here. I must say I wrote down on my question for Kate to check the questions. I bet Wilson will ask this and you did not.

Speaker: How much did Chandler have to pay for the play?

Speaker: Oh, man.

Speaker: It was just a good number question. I know, and I felt like it was an expensive ticket for the 90s.

Speaker: Yeah, it could be. Was it $46? It was not. I think you get another guess, though.

Speaker: And I'll say to it was less than 46. 36. Oh, 32. 32. Dang. Okay. Yeah. All right. All right. We got to get some. We're going to get both of these right. Seriously, we are not. we are. I don't know. This one I felt like was not very fair of a question.

Speaker: So. ah Go for it. Bring It's okay. It's okay. Okay. All right, what kind of shop is directly across the street from Central Perk?

Speaker: Because you see it very clearly through the window and it says it in bright green letters. All right, I have no idea. That's a great question. I'm glad you kept it in. I'm just going to have to guess that it's a copy place because of Chloe the copy girl.

Speaker: Oh, no, that's a good guess though. Last guess is a florist. It is a florist. Wow. Okay.

Speaker: Good job. Okay. A little look on my side. i was just, what else could be there? Good job. i Maybe deep down somewhere in the crevices of my brain, i knew that one.

Speaker: um All right. My third question for you. no we'll have to I was thinking about this and I was making notes. In my head, even though they've changed apartments, it's still the girls' apartment and the boys' apartment, even though they're living in each other's. So what does the etch... But that doesn't really actually impact this question at all. What does the etch-a-sketch say in the boys' new apartment? So the girls' old one when the boys are okay ah Okay. It says, have you seen...

Speaker: And then have you seen our view? Ding, ding, ding. There we are. Yes. We see positive mindset. That's it. I love that. All right. All right. what fee or What book is Phoebe walking around with in the coffee shop?

Speaker: oh good Oh, yes, I do know because I think it might be what – It's one of two things. And I may have this in my notes.

Speaker: I think it is either a baby named book, but i think the correct answer I'm going to go with is what to expect when you're expecting. Very nice job. right Thank you. Thank you. My fourth question. I don't know what your fifth is, but I think you have a similar question.

Speaker: Oh, I took it out. Okay, you took out. She told me to take my fifth one out. Okay, because there was some, when there was some hums and haws, and they said, no, your question's okay.

Speaker: My question for you, my fourth one for you is, what cereal is Phoebe eating when the boys invite them over for for the game on Saturday night?

Speaker: She's eating tricks. She is eating tricks. Okay, so listen to my next question. Okay. What's the name of the Captain Crunch s cereal that's sitting up on the refrigerator throughout the entire episode? Okay, that must be why she was humming and humming out for second. i I saw it. because it's not the same. It's not the same. I saw it up there on the shelf and I caught that it was a difference because Captain Crunch it makes many an appearance in the boys' kitchen. Yes.

Speaker: It's something like I feel like the one Captain is gone, but Crunch is still there. So I'm going to go with something like, oh my Crunch. I don't know. I don't know what it is. That's such a good guess.

Speaker: ah Try again. You're close. um Let's think. Crunch. Awesome Crunch.

Speaker: That's my final guess. How about love that crunch? Love that crunch. Ah. Almost. Almost. Well, I've finished with two out of five. You have two out of four.

Speaker: So. This will be the winner of the tiebreaker. This is it. All right. How old is the lady that Rachel helps put on underwear that she didn't buy? Oh, no.

Speaker: She's 81.

Speaker: I will tell you've got a 10% chance of getting it because that's the beginning. 83. You get one more shot. 81. And you nailed it on the head. 81 years old. Yes.

Speaker: After a struggling first half, you have stormed to a three two victory. Oh, man. That was tough. That was a tough one. That was a tough one um for both of us.

Speaker: I've got one, two, three extra questions. I only have one. All right. Well, then I'll start because then we can alternate a little bit. All right. Perfect. Where does Chandler go after accusing Kathy of cheating on him? And what does he act what does he call it by mistake?

Speaker: Oh, okay. So it's Beefsteak Charlie's. Yep. um And he calls it...

Speaker: Was it Steak Beef Charlie's? No, he calls it Beefsteak, another name.

Speaker: And it's actually the name of one of, ah you know what? She's not appeared yet. Has she appeared? Oh, by suddenly my timeline has gone in my head. She has appeared. Of course she has. One of Ross's ex-girlfriends.

Speaker: Oh. End of season one into season two. Oh, lu Julie. Beefsteak Julie's. Yes. Yes. Nice. Okay. All right. What do you have for me?

Speaker: What has Rachel never done, but Phoebe's done a thousand times? That would be ask out a guy. Doesn't make Phoebe sound good, does it? yeah No, it doesn't, but it makes me laugh. It's so good. um Who does Rachel say the driver's license belongs to when she calls Joshua and he suggests looking at the license?

Speaker: of Mr. Pheebs. Mr. Pheebs. and Well done. And my last extra question is, according to Joey, what three theories didn't work out?

Speaker: ah Geometry. Yep. That's the last one. Okay. The chemistry. Okay. the chemistry on stage thing that would be a theory that you know i guess i didn't count that that would be it count that okay um but yeah really there's four i guess because that's in there

Speaker: i don't know all right well the other two i have are the lone gunman and communism Which I thought is is very academic for Joey to throw out the the theory of communism.

Speaker: that's Right. yeah But then geometry. Geometry. Let's go, calm down. yeah All right. so Well, well done. Good for you. Yes, I'm ready. yeah All right. So this is in honor of a few episodes ago.

Speaker: this is the one with all the trivia, but it's Mad Libs. I love it. All right. So, this um which set of roommates knows each other best? Monica and Rachel or Joey and Chandler?

Speaker: What started out as a simple $7 bet quickly escalates into a quiz with Ross as wife master. Ever competitive Monica raises the cars.

Speaker: If she and Rachel win, the guys get rid of the dog. If she and Rachel win, the guys get rid of...

Speaker: oh Oh, sorry. right it's okay If she and Rachel win, the guys get rid of the dog and the duck. But if the guys bark, they get the girls Scotland.

Speaker: Woo-hoo! Rachel's nervous, but Monica shows Rachel her hand. Steady as a pool, she can't lose. In the lightning round, they'll each have one second to answer as many questions as possible.

Speaker: Ross asks about the tree Monica got stuck in her ear as a kid. Then he asks about Joey's childhood imaginary snake named Deanne, who was a space paramedic.

Speaker: Monica is sure they're going to skip the game. Then Ross asks them a strong question. What is Chandler's job? They don't know. no one knows what Yasmeen Bleeth does for a living.

Speaker: The guys win. So much for your steady hand, Monica. Round of applause. Round of applause. That was silly. That was wonderful. It made me smile from ear to ear. That did. A little Friends Mad Libs.

Speaker: There you go. That was yeah fantastic. I love it. Good stuff. Good stuff. Thanks to my mother-in-law who got that for me for Christmas.

Speaker: Good on the mother-in-law. Sitting there waiting to be entertained. Waiting for this moment. Yeah, there you go. I love it.

Speaker: Uh, all right. Well, I feel like we have to get into the episode, but after that epic performance, um, you know, it's, it's, it's, yeah, it's going be tough, but let's try it. We're going to start off in, we don't know the name of the theater, but you said circle. Yes, we do. Or is it circle the square? Circle in the square. That's the theater. yeah All right. Um, Kathy is the star. Ross and Chandler are going to see her show. Um,

Speaker: You know, I'm trying to say, sorry, my notes suddenly just went off page, but they're back. And the play opens and Chandler, he's a he's a little surprised with how racy the show is. um I guess that wasn't discussed. He didn't really know what was happening or the plot of the show because, yeah, a bit taken aback.

Speaker: So Circle in the Square is an actual theater, but it's like a theater school. So they have some plays that are like run-of-the-mill. And you could see the posters in the background, like Dreamgirls was up there. And then there was something else, but very mainstream theater.

Speaker: mainstream the the uh place but then they also do other ones that aren't so mainstream so i was would be one that was probably not so mainstream i was really wanting to ask you some questions about the posters in the background but it didn't seem fair because took me ages to figure them out and i tried my very best to figure out the prices of the the drinks and the snacks on the menu and I know what scene you're talking about love that lobby scene. I'm like, if I have to rewind it four times, it feels unfair to ask. So I didn't. I appreciate that. You're very, very welcome. wouldn't have been able to tell you.

Speaker: any of the prices but i probably could have talked about some of those the because i remember three of the posters on the wall so now those what was it dream girls something of was yeah what are the there was one that was yellow i remember Uh-huh. The yellow one. And then there was another, i don't know. They'll come to me. I didn't even write them down and put them in my notes. And I should have, but I didn't.

Speaker: I liked, i liked that little, that little lobby area. Yeah. The drinks were like $2 or something like they would. Oh, wow. Very cheap. Very cheap. Okay. Did I tell you that I recently, that I went to a drunk Shakespeare with, with Haley a few weeks ago?

Speaker: I think i'm trying to remember if we talked on air or not, but you did tell me about that. Okay. And so that was set up in a circle theater. Right. but Much as this one where that is set up as well.

Speaker: Because that's why it's a circle on the square is because it's a circle theater where the stage is in the middle. But typically the stage is down a little bit and the seats are up a little bit, like an arena almost. But, you know.

Speaker: Anyway, sorry. No, I'm interested. I did wonder if it was some sort of small theater inside Madison Square Garden. ah I've got no idea, of course, but I was just curious if that was the circle inside the square. I figured it was Times Square.

Speaker: that Like they were talking about times squares, so it's circle in the square yeah and times squares. That would be it. I think you're right. Like a play on that. I don't know. that makes more sense.

Speaker: yeah um we then We kind of start in the boys' apartment. I can't i feel if I, now that the girls are living there, I still have to call it the boys' apartment because my head will short-circuit if I try and you know chop and change this up too much, I think. um Monica and Phoebe are unpacking. I loved looking at the boxes because there's like fancy dishes or something. yes And then Rachel's closet stuff. Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker: All those, all those little details. Um, Phoebe kind of mean she wants Monica's old clothes cause maternity ones are expensive. A, she was pregnant. She's been pregnant like a week. Um, but maybe she's just planning ahead and poor old Rachel, poor old Monica, you know, like, Yeah. yeah I don't know why you would hang on to clothes like that.

Speaker: No. From high school. Right. And you can't fit them anymore. No. not thats but i mean Especially in a Manhattan apartment, space is a premium. You're not going to be holding on to yeah a bunch of old stuff like that. Rachel comes in. She's kind of upset. She got a demotion. Well, not really demotion. Her department's shut.

Speaker: She feels like it was a demotion. Yeah. For sure. And she's now in personal shopping, which, yeah, that, I mean, those two jobs aren't really related at all. I guess it's good that she still has a job, but it feels, don't know if beneath her is the right term to use at this point, but she's, she she is she's she was doing some big office stuff and is now essentially, yeah, addressing rich people.

Speaker: um which yeah it's quite a bit it's a bit of a fall from grace from where she was ah I love that Joey comes in and just opens the fridge you know sees what Monica's got going on was it a turkey leg is that what he grabs yeah he does Monica's putting an end to this though. They've got their big apartment so he has to keep the fridge stocked over there which I think she comes to regret fairly soon. She doesn't like that idea actually at all. But Joey's looking for a donut and maybe something else I forget now that he may put up Just a donut. Just a donut. How and why it could have ended up there who knows.

Speaker: And if it would even still be good because that's disgusting. we We must have discussed this. If you go to the donut shop for a little breakfast treat, do you have one new like that you really pro prefer?

Speaker: Weird. I know everybody's order in my house except for my own. Interesting. Yep. I do like, I do enjoy just a very nice glazed donut with the chocolate icing that has the little ball sprinkles.

Speaker: There you go. Like not the flat circle ones, but the little balls. I do like those. yeah And the white, the white icing is pretty good. I think that might be my go-to.

Speaker: I like it. Good choice. What about you? but about you so i'm not you know I've got sweet tooth. I enjoy something sugary like anybody else does. Not a big donut fan.

Speaker: Just in general. Now, if I'm good to have one, it would be... oh now tell me if I'm getting the name right. Is it a crueller? It's almost like kind of half donut's cake. It's kind of got a crispy texture kind of on the top. Yeah. That's the one. that's the that that okay That tastes pretty good. Yes. Cruelers stat. That's from Wayne's World.

Speaker: They talk about those whenever they go into the donut shop. yeah Coffee and crueler stat. Nice. he's all Yeah. And then Ed O'Neill comes and starts talking to the camera.

Speaker: Yeah, that's the one. that's I will take that. that or you know Other than that, I'm not going to get a donut, really. So that's it. See, George just recently discovered how delicious kolaches, now savory ones with the sausage inside. Yep.

Speaker: He just realized, like just recently... I am on board with those. Yeah, sort of the, the ah yeah, the kolaches, that I could have a couple of those and I'd be thrilled.

Speaker: Yeah. Definitely. um We go to Central Park, Ross and Chandler come in and they're telling Joey and Phoebe about the play and this is where Chandler says, yeah, he paid $32 for the ticket. To watch his worst nightmare. Yeah, that's it. Poor old Chandler. I mean, I've got thoughts on the whole Chandler Cathy thing and the 90 degree turn this seems to have taken in this episode, which we'll get into. But Joey kind of talks Chandler down. He's like, it if there's no chemistry, that's when you've got to be worried. um If there's tension and and stuff on stage, then it's okay.

Speaker: Now, this kind of, I don't know about this theory, but Chandler's buying it at this moment in time. Yes. Yeah. um It seems. Well, and it made me laugh whenever they started naming off all of the celebrity couples. Yes. yeah ah ah Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, um Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Alec Baldwin, Kim Basinger, which, you know, ah I don't know about Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins, but I know Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger aren't together. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman aren't together. They're all split up.

Speaker: yeah Yeah. And then, you know, and then PBN, her Mel Gibson and click Clint Eastwood comments. They're like, they're not a couple. And she's like, oh, okay, I get the game now. Yeah. Don't know what she thought the game was. but i don't.

Speaker: I don't know, but it was funny. Yeah, a true Phoebe moment. we We go up to the old girls' apartment and Chandler asks Ross to go with him again to the play. Ross is hesitant for a second, but then he's like, no, I'm in. um i like the joey's cooking in the kitchen um phoebe i think is at the table when monica comes in and joey makes a pancake i think for monica but throws in it hits the floor yeah because he flips it and it like goes way over way over that's right um and then joey invites everyone over he is being quite the host

Speaker: And he's making a big breakfast. He's inviting people over for whatever game it is Saturday night. and this is Okay. Yes. I have a question for you. Bring it. This is whenever Chandler's you know talking about the spread on the table. And he says, we've got jams, jellies, and marmalades. He's pretty sure they're all the same thing, but whatever.

Speaker: oh Jams, jellies, and marmalades, not the same thing. So... yeah Well, I mean, you you are correct. Now, marmalade and jam, definitely two different things.

Speaker: Jelly is a is a word that is, again, that's says so an American word instead of a British word for something like jam. And I don't understand the difference between jam and jelly in this context. Jam has like actual fruit in there.

Speaker: Okay. Okay. like fruit pieces are in some jam right and jelly it's just jelly like there's not pieces of strawberry or anything like that it's just yeah it's the the smooth yeah the smooth yes yes yes see i i had never i mean you've always i've always heard of marmalade But I didn't know really what it was.

Speaker: And then I had to buy orange marmalade for a recipe back a few years ago. And I was like, it is very jam jelly family-esque.

Speaker: Very much so. You put it on some bread and it's great. Now, would you get orange jam? Because to me that's marmalade, but it might actually not be. No.

Speaker: i don't I don't know. i just ordered orange marmalade because that is what the recipe was. It was like for this orange chicken and white rice yeah recipe that I was making. And it's a marmalade so yeah that's what i got the urban legend around marmalade is it was invented for mary queen of scots because french for me when she was ill and okay because the french for mary is sick is marie a malade

Speaker: And apparently it was made to try and cheer her spirits up. it was something, you know she liked oranges and this. i don't know if that's true. Could be complete nonsense. Maybe a listener out there knows, but that was kind of the the the legend around the name. Marmalade is Marie M. Allad.

Speaker: So then is it only orange? I think so. Is marmalade only orange? I'm pretty sure. Yes. Wow. Yeah. Okay. I think somebody out there is probably yelling at the speakers in their car, but I think that's the case. How dare us not know.

Speaker: Yes. I don't know. Well, I enjoyed some orange marmalade and um i it it was a good recipe, but i enjoy I ate the rest of the marmalade just on bread.

Speaker: Good for you. Good for you. Mmm, it was good. Monica is clearly missing being the hostess at this point. I think she regrets kind of calling Joey's bluff on having to keep the the fridge stock because Joey's doing a great job. i mean, he's got a big family i and we see him make lots of gem. And um what's the other thing we see him making? but A big pot of something that...

Speaker: is really hot tomato that is the jam that's right the sauce that's right so he's yeah he's accustomed to cooking for large amounts of people like he's got this down um but uh monica is yeah she was going to invite people over for the game even though she doesn't know what game it is um what that what that's i'm looking forward to the the cookies and the brownies and all of that that she will get to in a little later scene we We go over to Rachel's new job. She is now a personal shopper still in Bloomingdale's. um She's on the phone with Monica, upset by this old lady trying on underwear. She didn't even buy it, which I'm going to assume doesn't ever happen, but maybe because she's a super rich lady.

Speaker: I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. Maybe it used to happen in the 90s. I can't imagine it still does. But there are still personal shoppers.

Speaker: ah i know you know ah okay I don't know. anything but I have a question for you. Yes. When was the last time that you actually like went into a store and tried on clothes?

Speaker: You know, if you had asked me this two weeks ago, i would have had to really think about it. However, yeah ah two weeks ago was it to yeah two weeks ago, I bought a new suit.

Speaker: I needed a new suit. I've lost a little weight over the last year, so my old suit was a little baggy. And New Year, and there was a good sale on, so went to the mall and got a suit.

Speaker: Nice. Good for you. And, you know, that's kind of a that's ah that's not just a pair of jeans. So went with Kate and tried things on and made sure it was okay and all of that. Yeah.

Speaker: Okay. Very good. How about you? Yeah. Yeah. Well, and if ah you had asked me before yesterday, hu i would have told you i have no idea because I will order things and then just return Yeah. And send them back if they don't fit or I don't like them. Because i hate shopping. I hate going into a store. I hate it, hate it, hate it. But I needed jeans for tomorrow, which unfortunately now I have realized that I actually have a training tomorrow. I can't wear jeans anyway. So it was a wasted trip.

Speaker: But and got a really great deal. so I'm okay with it. Good for you. But Yeah, but um yeah and like jeans and clothes and stuff, I just yeah order, guess the size and order it. And then if it's wrong, I send it back. And if I want to order a different size, and I do, but most of the time I don't. And I'm just like, whatever, that was stupid.

Speaker: like i know I know generally the sizes of things and I look at the material. There's a pair of jeans that I really like and that you know I look at... and that's Yeah, I'll order to them almost exclusively.

Speaker: Yeah. That's it. Yeah, because... Yeah, going shopping for hours, that's I've got no desire whatsoever to do that. um But yeah, a suit, the suit, was that's that's a slightly different situation. But yeah, I'm with you. yeah Can order it, take it back, and that's that. um but joshua walks in he's coming in he needs a whole new wardrobe he needs everything uh down to socks underwear his his ex-wife burned everything except what was it the suit he's wearing and a dress i think a skirt a skirt well the ex-wife sounds like quite a piece of work um

Speaker: Well, it depends on what he did. No, just kidding. Sort of. Sort of. Sort of. You might be onto something. It might have been well-deserved. We don't know. um But Joshua is, a I think think he's not quite divorced, but he's certainly a single guy at this point. And yeah, new clothes for a new Josh at this point. Joshua at this point.

Speaker: um We go over to, his let's see, Rebecca. Joshua. Joshua. We go over to the theatre lobby and Chandler doesn't think there was any chemistry so he is now convinced. I was going to ask you what Cathy's co-star his name is.

Speaker: That was my question number five. Oh, right. That she told me I had to take out. Yeah. Yes. So then, in there you go. That's why she was hemming and hawing was because you had the Twix cereal, or Trix cereal. Yes.

Speaker: And I had the Love That Crunch cereal. Love That Crunch. That's it. Yes. But we both asked about Nick. That's right. um Chandler doesn't think there was any chemistry between them, so she must be cheating on him with Nick. Obviously. Obviously. That's a great conclusion to draw. Ross is like, well, there was some chemistry. And Kathy comes out and just... Oh, I do love that line where Ross is... What does he say? It's like, just just don't act like you or something. Yeah, it just be cool. Don't be...

Speaker: that's it don't be you don't be you yeah yeah you and then well that doesn't Chandler does not take this advice because Kathy comes out and he is weird and he cute what I've just written what the heck happened between Chandler and Kathy because they were on cloud nine like they were things were going great they were smitten and now Chandler is sabotaging this and because it's what Chandler does I guess that's it. I mean, at this point, certainly Kathy has appears to have done nothing wrong. um

Speaker: This is all... But, okay. Okay. Hold on. Talk a bit about the other side here. signs signs Times, times. Okay.

Speaker: Like, if Chandler is dating... Kathy. Kathy is an actress. Yes. He wants to go and see her starring in her play.

Speaker: And she's making out with this guy. Right. Like, I feel like that would make you feel some kind of way. Yes. But then instead of saying, hey, you doing your job makes me feel some kind of way, so I'm not going to come anymore.

Speaker: He's going to keep going and keep going instead of just just like, let's put it out there and um have that conversation. Instead, he gets all weird about it and has all this internal stuff going on.

Speaker: and then it turns into this. So yes i like I don't blame Chandler. Even if ah Joseph was an actor, you know like i would I would not be excited about going and watching him kiss on some lady.

Speaker: Right. That would not make me happy. It wouldn't well. And that doesn't make a bad person or anything. And I don't think Chandler is the kind of person that's like...

Speaker: that he'd just be cool with that. This is true. This is true. i i think he's, I mean, what's Kathy gonna do? Like not be the actor, but this guy, yeah.

Speaker: he don't keep going and watching it if it's bothering you. like Sit down with Kathy. I know this is your job. It makes me uncomfortable. That's not your fault. You're doing a job, but I don't feel comfortable coming anymore. I think that's reasonable. But Chandler self implodes instead of having that conversation. Yeah, he does. Accuses her of having an affair and she basically says, call me when you grew up. and Like that's going to happen.

Speaker: And yes she kind of, I would say storms out, but she just leaves. She does. We go over back to the girls' apartment. Rachel walks in. She has the best day. She got to dress up Joshua all day. She got it. Good doll. That's right. I love that. um So, um um again, the timeline in my head, I need to go think about this, and I haven't. But Ross is kind of a bit jealous.

Speaker: And it kind of felt a little out of place. Like he just saw the girl from Poughkeepsie and, you know, things have happened. But he also wasn't talking about it in front of Rachel.

Speaker: That's true. yeah That's true. You know, so maybe maybe he's got some imaginary, like, expectations of boundaries that they should be following. You came dangerously close to defending Ross there. That was...

Speaker: you know i Did I? No, they're imaginary. he yes He's a turkey. You saved yourself there. imagine think you Thank you. Do you know what, though? he i almost picked him as my Gunther Central perk for this episode because i laughed out loud at ah two of his lines, too. And i was and then I was like, nah, that's not enough.

Speaker: And I went with somebody else. But I almost picked him. i like I don't hate the guy. He's just a wiener. I just like pretending you hate him, I think. well and i I will 100% die on the hill that Ross is is a wiener. He just...

Speaker: Yep. yeah Oh, yeah. Well, we will be getting there. um They start smelling something really good and Monica is across the hall with cookies and fan. And a fan. That made me I was like... I feel for her. like it's just it's It's wholesome and it's good and she just wants everybody enjoying themselves at her place, wherever her place may be. Yes. Yes. I mean, she wants them over there so bad she even got Joey, new playboy. um She's the coolest mom ever, according to quote it de Ross. um But then they kind of take they take the food back and um back to, you know, across the hall to the boy's new place. And I did notice, I didn't write it down and I'm really annoyed with myself. I got distracted.

Speaker: When they leave the apartment and then when they enter Monika's, they're in a different order than when they came in, than when they left and came in. So it was obviously filmed two different shots. Oh, wow.

Speaker: I forget who was out of place now. um Oh, I didn't even notice that. Yeah, just clock that. um She gets in the spirit of she's going to make her place the best place. So everyone is going to want to hang out there. She's going to be on a mission. And then Chandler comes in kind of drunk.

Speaker: you know falls down the stairs a little more than kind of yeah he's pretty hammered yeah went to beefsteak julie's no beefsteak charlie's because him and rachel but you're like this yeah we're like this um i do i love that line that with the the fingers going back and forth yes um and she tells them about you know that i mean at this point it's still Cathy's not cheated on Chandler, right? Like, I don't think it kind of there's a couple of ways, things that were said that made me think, well, did she? But no, she definitely hasn't that we certainly that we know of. Certainly that Chandler knows of. That's that's not happened. He's just in his head, um as you said.

Speaker: We go, and were we're sort of in the, I've written down, we're in the hallway. Yeah, Monica managed to get this, I don't know what it's called. I know what it is, that floor scrubbing thing. The floor buffer, yeah. Buffer, that's the one um Rachel steps over and says she needs to vacuum more. Like, yeah it' to me, that's kind of a throwback to the,

Speaker: the sort of quote unquote spoiled brat of Rachel in the beginning, right at the very beginning where she wouldn't know what vacuum really was. Um, she goes in and speaks to Joey and Phoebe about frustration that Joshua has not, can you believe it asked her out yet?

Speaker: Um, and I forgot that this scene introduced us to the most iconic, one of the most iconic friends lines that exists. Um, The look on your face tells me you didn't catch this.

Speaker: Uh-uh. How you doing? Was that the first time? I googled around and checked it. I went to oh check. Wow. This is the very first how you doing.

Speaker: Oh, how funny. Yeah. So then he says that and then she says ah at the end with the little... Yep, with the two driver's licenses. yeah And she's really the first one that uses it y as an actual pick-up line. yeah and that so It's in an imaginary play, but...

Speaker: I did Google and checked a couple of sources, but if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. But yeah, this is, I'm sure this is the first mention. honey How you doing? and I have a croc charm that says that. See, there you go. I guarantee there's something on my shelf that says it behind me. yeah But yeah, judge so Joey gives her the tips on what to do. And Rachel decides to call or call him, but then chickens out.

Speaker: Yes, she does. Mr. Pheebs. Mr. Pheebs. That's right. if You know, she didn't think to look at the license in the wallet. um And they hear a noise and they look across the hall and Monica is just spinning around on this floor buffer. um Yeah.

Speaker: I feel like it's a lot of work for quite a funny joke, but to get that floor buffer thing in there and do all of that. um for it to get about five seconds of screen time like what must they have done to get monica on that thing safely as an actress and spinning and all of that yeah and getting wrapped up in the cord right it seems that sort of health and safety issues written all over it but they do and they manage and it's funny that yeah um

Speaker: Okay, but it made me laugh whenever she calls Joshua sorry. I'm sorry. I'm going back. like Oh, please. No, no, no. Yeah. Okay. um and then um

Speaker: And then she says, you know, you've done that a thousand times to Phoebe. And Phoebe says, I've never done that. That's so funny to me. Yes.

Speaker: it's so good i just i appreciated that because it was it was a good line it was funny yes no that one funny definitely worth mentioning uh chandler wakes up it's the next morning and wants to see if kathy what or he wants to call kathy to kind of see if he was wrong and then i think he realizes at this point that He's got no evidence. There's nothing to say Kathy is cheating on him because Joey's thoughts was it was just a theory and theories are wrong all the time as we discussed him bamboozled.

Speaker: And yeah, Chandler with a clear morning head has maybe realized that he has gone way overboard. um we go to rachel's new office joshua comes out in a very nice suit and rachel i wouldn't say unprofessional but she's certainly being very flirty and making it clear that she is a single lady and all of that um she tries to think about how to offer him the next tickets i've just written down that that ends up just being farcical um

Speaker: He says goodbye to Rachel, he's walking out and she just yells basketball and then does phrase it. to i I was thinking about this. Was she, did she phrase it incorrectly or did he, was he kind of incorrect?

Speaker: Well, she says, I have a two Knicks tickets for the game if you're interested. Right. I think and he's in the right sort of thing.

Speaker: Yeah, um but it wasn't 100% clear. So, like, if somebody was offering something like that, i think I would have asked for more information. I think. But whenever I was watching that, I was thinking the same thing. Has you, like, is is he...

Speaker: oversteppping But she does. She kind of makes it like, I have these two tickets as a thank you. Right. yeah I can see both ways. Yeah. So it's just awkward.

Speaker: yeah It's just awkward. well Fortunately for for Joshua, he has a nephew who's crazy about the Knicks. um so i guess it's joshua and his nephew that are going we pop over to kathy's apartment i did write down the door number i'm just not there that's right i'm not on it i'm not on it it's so good uh kathy's apartment number i wrote down with hopes that you might ask me 10 it is i thought that might be yes i thought you were gonna ask me

Speaker: um Chandler's there to apologize. um a year They've had their first fight, which is a good thing, but then Chandler realizes very quickly their second fight is going to be a big one. Because Nick's trousers are hanging over the chair and has evidently spent the night at Kathy's.

Speaker: um So that's kind of going to be the end of that. um Yeah, I don't remember if we actually see Kathy again at all or if that's not it.

Speaker: I don't know. Yeah, we'll find out. I think that's it too. um We go, i think, this the last scene? We go over to the girls' apartment. No, it's not the last scene quite. um So Joey's coaching Rachel on what to say next. um And so I've just, my notes don't quite make sense. I'll scribble them down. Ross likes that the first time Rachel asked a guy out, that's right. She turned him down. He's kind of gloating little so he's like teasing her a little bit.

Speaker: Yes. Yep. And then Monica comes in and she's obviously exhausted. Yeah. She invites them to come over. That's right. And then they cross the hall.

Speaker: It's this scene. This is the one I misspoke earlier. Here's my notes where they leave and enter in a slightly different order. Ah, okay. This is the one. Monica has not slept in two days, is it? Is that what she says? Yep, two days. yeah and She worked for two days straight.

Speaker: And the apartment does look phenomenal. It's got to be said. It's cozy. It's clean. Joey doesn't remember what floor they had down before, which is such a a Joey thing. does Yeah, doesn't remember there was carpet. And Monica just falls asleep on the couch. She's always the hostess. Always.

Speaker: Very funny. Chandler comes in and tells them that Kathy is now sleeping with Nick. Says she's a devil woman, but then quickly retracts that and blames himself and he loves her.

Speaker: um But then Ross puts his foot in it by saying, well, if she thought they were on a break... and it kind of ends yeah yes um and with the closing credits we jump back over to rachel's office and joshua really has left his office i find it funny the way mr waltham obviously an english fella says billfold which is a very american term but that's something i literally didn't know what that meant um oh really yeah

Speaker: No idea what that meant at all. So that just kind of jumped out at me that, you know, the very English chap saying billfold. And that's when she starts playing with the driver's licenses and how you doing and finishing this episode on ah on a very funny note, I think. Okay.

Speaker: Have you ever seen Space Falls? Never. Okay. Me neither. never have either. But apparently that...

Speaker: scene where she sits down and she has the two ids and everything is a parallel to some scene in space balls okay so did not know but i didn't ever i've as many times as i've seen this episode i obviously never got that reference because i've never seen that movie never seen the time though And they're apparently remaking it or making another one or something. Right. um And then every time it comes up, Joseph Sly is like, I can't believe you've never seen Spaceballs. But don't worry, I've still never seen it.

Speaker: So there you go. but speaking Speaking of movies, I did listen this week. It's completely off topic. I can't remember who the interview was with. It was Lisa Kudrow did an ah interview for a podcast with a PBS station. And um so Romney and Michelle, the next installment of that is they finish filming it. Romy and Michelle. Romy, excuse me. Romy and Michelle. oh Whoa. Never seen it.

Speaker: But I know Lisa Kudrow's in it. Oh God. I have that movie memorized. I love it. They finished filming. Don't know when it's coming out, but it is done. And she's very excited about it. Me too. Oh my gosh.

Speaker: I wonder, okay. Romy and Michelle's. Yeah. Okay. So it came out the year I graduated from, I'm about to just, I'm old.

Speaker: It's fine. Oh my gosh. Do you know why? Why it's coming out? No. well Yes. Okay. So the year I graduated from high school in 1997. And they were going, and that's the year that that movie came out.

Speaker: And they were going to their 10-year high school reunion. It's about to be 2027. so the

Speaker: no No, it'll be their 40 year. 40 year. I'm thinking it's 30 years ahead. It's going to be my 30. Ah. I won't go because I don't do that because it stresses me out. And I tell myself every time, going to I'm going to participate. I'm going to do.

Speaker: And then I don't. I kind of assume that it's it's very much and more of an American tradition when where I went to school. They don't do this thing. Has it kind of fallen off given that every everyone knows what everyone's up to on social media and stuff?

Speaker: um Or is still a big deal? i don't I mean, I have no idea. I mean, i think it probably depends on the people, right? Because my mom and my dad, like, they both go to theirs.

Speaker: Right. Like, and... um ah ah But they go to theirs. m Yeah, I've got no idea. I don't know. And there's all kinds of people, like, from my graduating class that will go, but I don't know if it's a thing that...

Speaker: people really do? I don't know. yeah but I sure do love that that is happening. That's really, really good. Well, I'll have to watch the first one before this one comes out.

Speaker: We'll need to do that. Well, we know you're... It's so It's so good. No, I'm just saying. Yeah, the first one is so cute. And I love those characters. Like, they are so funny. Because they were they were like big dorks. and Not big dorks, but they were just kind of oddballs in and high school. And they were like best friends. And, like, Lisa Kudrow's character has scoliosis.

Speaker: So she wore a neck brace. Right. You know, and then Romy and... and It's just so it's good. I like it. Awesome. I am looking. I will watch that. We know that Ross is not your Gunther Central Park.

Speaker: So no drum roll. Who is it this week? Drum roll, please. It is Monica. Monica. Oh, you were going to click Okay, just kidding.

Speaker: Do it. No, i I was giving it. So we're using different software. I don't have the drum roll on this. Oh, man. So I was just giving it a drum roll on the desk. Oh, okay. Okay. The microphone may or may not pick that up. We'll see. It was Monica because her only purpose this entire episode was to try to get the apartment a place where everybody wanted to hang out.

Speaker: Like, that's so nice. love that so much because I have literally chosen Monica for the exact same reason. She wasn't big in this episode at all, but she had such good, simple intentions and just wants everyone happy. And I thought she deserved recognition for just wanting everybody happy.

Speaker: Yeah. And to be taking care of everybody. Absolutely. Because, yeah. Yep. All right. Let's see. What are we measuring this week?

Speaker: We are measuring this week's shiny gold shirt buttons. As we should. Indeed. all right. Yes. So let's think. How many sharp buttons are you giving it?

Speaker: I gave this one seven. Right. Just seven. Right. Yeah. It's good. Solid. It's fine. Nothing great. Amazing. Like,

Speaker: like I know. It's like a almost a standalone, right? Like, and it it's not. It's not because like Joshua is a reoccurring character and and, you know, Rachel and her her job dissatisfaction is going to matter. But yeah.

Speaker: Yeah, ah for me, there wasn't. And it was the end of Kathy. so that That was my thought. It is a sort transition where Kathy's leaving the story and Joshua's coming in and he will, that storyline snowballs into another story and Mr. Waltham is briefly introduced, which kind of sets up the second half of this season, I feel.

Speaker: Yeah. okay And what about you? How many buttons? So it's it's... Shiny gold buttons? Seven and a half shiny gold buttons. Okay. The storyline I could give or take, but I just thought there was some funny moments in there.

Speaker: um Rather than it being a really funny storyline as a whole, just bits and pieces. So i say a respectable seven and a half, but certainly not ah not a great episode in my mind.

Speaker: Okay. All right. well excellent. Excellent. Awesome. Well, next week we are looking at the one with Joey's Dirty Day. Yes. And I'm very curious because I don't remember. i was like, what?

Speaker: So, because I know the Dirty Girl one. ah Like i I knew that one, but I don't remember this one. Yeah, as usual, I can generally you know remember the main story, but no idea about what happens underneath the main story. um So I'm excited to find out.

Speaker: I'm looking forward it. All right. Any final thoughts this week, Deanne? No, no. I'm just, ah you know, it's going to a great week. Yes. It's going to be a great week. I'm excited. All right. Well, thank you, Deanne, as always, and everybody out there for listening to the Purple Door podcast.
