Introduction to the Daily Premier League Podcast

Global Sports Podcast Network
Welcome, welcome, welcome everybody to the Daily Premier League podcast. It's the day we've been looking forward to for years. It's the 27th of September.
00:00:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm Ken Davis. He's Nick Britton. Welcome to your Daily Premier League podcast, where we discuss all the goings on across the Premier League and a few more things besides.

Excitement Levels for Wrexham vs. Derby

00:00:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
You excited, Nick? Obviously, it's the day of El Clasico.
00:00:40
Nick Britten
Well, can I just ah could of but just like temper kind of excitement here? When you say it's the day we've been looking forward to forever, no, it isn't. It's the day you've been looking forward to forever.
00:00:51
Nick Britten
As far as I'm concerned, it's just a rather mundane, boring away game at a small Welsh provincial town.
00:00:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, but for me, it's the game I've dreamed of for 20 years. Yeah. right
00:01:03
Nick Britten
It has. I'm not going to lie. You have been dreaming of this 20 years because we've known each other for 20 years and it's all you've been banging on about.
00:01:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
ye
00:01:10
Nick Britten
And in the last two or three years, if if you don't know what we're talking about, Ken will explain in just a moment. For the last two or three years, as your team's inexorable rise through the leagues from non-league, possibly helped by billions and billions and billions of pounds of Hollywood money, so let's just buy the league, don't worry about football, then ah then yeah, I know you've been getting more and more and more and more excited when a fixture list came out for the Championship this season. I know you were straight on it.
00:01:37
Nick Britten
But

Wrexham vs. Derby Predictions

00:01:38
Nick Britten
let's face it, for everybody else, nobody cares.
00:01:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
that Wrexham versus Derby, 12.30 in the Championship. Cancel your plans, get yourself in front of the TV and enjoy what will be an absolute festival of attacking football.
00:01:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just before we move on to what we're supposed to be talking about at the Premier League, um give us a prediction for

Analysis of Wrexham and Derby Strategies

00:02:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
today. I want to score as well this time.
00:02:05
Nick Britten
Well, do you want the heart, head or ridiculousness?
00:02:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Accuracy.
00:02:11
Nick Britten
ah Okay, accuracy, two one to Wrexham. Okay.
00:02:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I never thought I'd ever heard the day you'd say that. I think I just might end the podcast there, actually. ah I also think we will win. I think it will be by three goals to one.
00:02:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Both teams will score. Both got leaky defences. But we're just looking like we're ah but but but we've found our feet a bit.
00:02:37
Nick Britten
You found your feet. Yeah, you found your feet. And a couple of goals in the week in the League Cup for your superstar, most expensive striker. ah And yeah Broad, what's his name? Broad something or other.
00:02:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Go ahead.
00:02:48
Nick Britten
Broadhead, yeah. That's important. I think for Wrexham, I think he's a good signing at this level. He should get goals in the Championship. Both teams have had a very slow start. I think a sluggish start to

Nick's Team Strategy and Premier League News

00:03:00
Nick Britten
the season. Derby have been hampered by a lot of injuries.
00:03:03
Nick Britten
Their team, is we're just starting to come back, but I think it's a little bit too early for us. I think we need another month before I think we can see the best of what we'll be fine this season. It'll be all right. I don't know.
00:03:14
Nick Britten
ah the the the only The note of encouragement I can offer you, Ken, is that we are, at the moment, very much an away side, the way we set up, i.e. back five, two defensive midfielders, a 60-yard gap to Carlton Morris. He kind stands there scratching his head for a bit or chasing long balls.
00:03:32
Nick Britten
we could We could keep the clean sheet today. We could keep clean sheet today because we're we're good it. went to West Brom and we won 1-0 away after just getting battered for most of the game. We had to defend very heavily in the first half against Preston at home, but we set up quite negatively.
00:03:48
Nick Britten
Then and the second half, when we changed it around and got on to more attacking front foot, we looked a lot better, but couldn't...
00:03:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Hi.
00:03:53
Nick Britten
Couldn't score, so we lost that game. I think it'll be a kind of an away mindset today of don't concede a goal. So it could be a 0-0. We could sneak it 1-0 because that the team's kind of set up to sneak games 1-0.
00:04:06
Nick Britten
But I'm just not sure.
00:04:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:04:06
Nick Britten
i think but I think Wexham have got a good attack. If they hit the straps, if your attack finds its form today, I think it'll be difficult to keep out.
00:04:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
A couple of early goals for Exxon today. could be anything. Right. Brilliant. ah So very much looking forward to that.

Spurs Takeover Interest and Fan Hopes

00:04:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
but News in the Premier League, Nick. um And before we go on to fixtures, we really want to spend today looking at the games, which are about to...
00:04:25
Nick Britten
well Saturday morning about, isn't it? Saturday morning is the best part of the weekend if you're a football coach.
00:04:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, lovely. Can't wait. Looking forward all these games.
00:04:29
Nick Britten
You get up and you're all excited. it's It's only a few hours until disappointment and misery sets in. So why not enjoy it know whilst we can?
00:04:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Are you in about half past three this afternoon?
00:04:40
Nick Britten
I'm in for everybody except you. Unless we win. If we win, I'm coming around your house, mate. And I'm backing on the door.
00:04:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
happen Right. Okay. So Spurs seem to be attracting some takeover interest. ah Interesting. Of course, Daniel Levy stepped down a couple of weeks ago.
00:04:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Is that just coincidental? Is it starting to feel like it isn't coincidental? Because since then, ah the ownership of Spurs, which is held by Enoch, which is Amanda Steyer.
00:05:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, it's
00:05:11
Nick Britten
Joe Lewis. Joe Lewis's family.
00:05:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
you loose But Amanda Stavely has kind of been looking at it, hasn't she?
00:05:13
Nick Britten
like circling Circling around.
00:05:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
for it
00:05:18
Nick Britten
Yeah, she's she's yeah circling around with a beard, yeah.
00:05:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
<unk>ckerling As well. And now there's an American tech billionaire, trillionaire, zillionaire, wherever they are, ah looking to ask the questions as to whether that stake is for sale as well. Enoch have said no, but what's going on there? Because suddenly there's load of momentum about it.
00:05:38
Nick Britten
Yeah, it feels a bit odd, doesn't it, that Daniel Levy steps down and all of a sudden, in the space of well space so two or three days, there were a couple of bids for shares in the club from PCP International Finance Limited, which is Amanda Stabley's company, Firehawk Holdings Limited.
00:05:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:05:53
Nick Britten
And now we've got another player in the market, Brooklyn Erick, who's an american American tech entrepreneur. Now, publicly, Spurs have said they have, quote, unequivocally rejected, unquote, an informal expression of interest at this stage. But Daniels Levy's departure was very sudden. They would have expected it. It came literally out of the blue.
00:06:15
Nick Britten
And then you suddenly get loads of bids for for the club or or for shares in the club. That tells you something. And whatever's happening, playing out, I think that whatever's playing out in the public domain is very, very different to what's being played out in the private domain.
00:06:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that is often the case, obviously, with these things, which are often under non-disclosure agreements. Just one final thought on that. What do you think Spurs fans want the outcome to be?
00:06:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Spurs had a bit of a reputation for under-investment on the playing side under Levy and indirectly, therefore, you know buy by their current owners.
00:06:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because Levy was really doing it that with with the support of their current owners. do you Do you think fans will be thinking, wow, here's our chance maybe to compete with with other clubs with a slightly bigger budget?
00:07:05
Nick Britten
I think so. i mean, look, depending on where the money's coming from, you kind of have a look around and look what other clubs are doing. And there's money coming in from the Far East, certain clubs, there's money coming from America in certain clubs.
00:07:17
Nick Britten
And i thinkronham i think Tottenham, look, Tottenham fans...
00:07:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, ours.
00:07:23
Nick Britten
want a winning team. I mean, all football fans want a winning team, but they will see that Daniel Levy did a brilliant job in getting Tottenham as a business, as an organisation, as a structure into a fantastic place, arguably the best place of any Premier League club.
00:07:36
Nick Britten
got a magnificent stadium, which is a multi-use, multi-purpose stadium. They've got a fantastic training ground, but that there was always, they always said, well, they do, they do care about it, but equally they are paying for it through quite high ticket prices.
00:07:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Defence care. Defence care about that.
00:07:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Yeah.
00:07:53
Nick Britten
no they do No, they do care, I think. But most of all, and um it was always felt under Levy that all this investment and all this getting getting the business profitable was at the expense of high expenditure on on on the pitch.
00:08:07
Nick Britten
And that that has to be the case with football because if you spend loads on the pitch, you're not going to make money. But that can only take you so far. So I think the sense amongst Tottenham fans will be one of excitement. They want change on the pitch. They've seen...
00:08:19
Nick Britten
a change in the summer with a change of manager. They've got a better team. They've invested you know well in the transfer market. But what Tottenham fans want is the team to match the facilities and the club. And that means top four football. It means winning domestic trophies. It means having a shot at Champions League on a regular basis. They don't want to be wallowing around in 17th and 18th where they were last season.
00:08:42
Nick Britten
They don't even want to be wallowing around in 9th, 10th and 12th. They want to be where Arsenal are and they want to be better than Arsenal. They want to be where Manchester City are and be competing around that level of the sport.
00:08:54
Nick Britten
Now, that might only be possible with investment, with a large chunk of cash coming into the club because we don't know what Joe Lewis's and Enix plans are for Tottenham in terms of financial investment on the pitch.

Endorsement of Zencastr

00:09:05
Nick Britten
So, but for I think if I'm a Tottenham fan, I'm looking at this going, right, okay, what are they actually going to buy? Okay. Okay. Because Enoch has an 87% stake in Tottenham. Is it just 12%, 13%? In which case, how much of a difference could that possibly make?
00:09:19
Nick Britten
Or are they looking to buy the club and ah move it on to the new level, similar to what's happened at Manchester City in recent years, similar to what's happening, well, trying to happen at Manchester United, but not really happening, similar to what wants to happen at Newcastle, but they can't because they're a hamstringed by PSR.
00:09:36
Nick Britten
is that It's that level of of getting investors in who can take the club to the next level.
00:09:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think if they did, if there was that kind of investment with all the facilities and all the infrastructure at Tottenham, they could be quite a force. You know, if they've got a great team, they're a great club, all of a sudden.
00:09:49
Nick Britten
Well, that's what I mean. That's precisely what I mean. They've got the infrastructure there already. It's not like...
00:09:57
Nick Britten
They're ready-made. Yeah, they're ready-made to take that next step because of everything that Daniel Levy put in place. It's not like we're looking to but you know to come in as investors and the first thing we've got to do is spend £100 billion pounds on on building White Hart Lane again or a crumbling this or a crumbling that. The infrastructure is there.
00:10:12
Nick Britten
It's all set up already.
00:10:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, interesting. I suspect if you're an investor looking to get involved in the Premier League, Spurs is probably top of people's list. So it's going to be interesting to see how that one works

00:11:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, let's come to the games, 10 games, obviously, as always over the weekend. Seven today, ah which is a great, ah like ah I like a busy Premier League Saturday.
00:11:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then a few games to follow, three games to follow. Let's go through them one by one. Let's kind of give our view on the various importances to each of these games in terms of suddenly a few of them have become ah quite important. And let's have a prediction.
00:11:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Home win, away win or draw. We'll start with first one. Brentford, it's the early game. Brentford against Manchester United. Big win for Amerim last weekend. Still feels like he's on thin ice.
00:11:46
Nick Britten
Yes, and look, Man United have won two out of the last three, so that's not bad. And the one in the middle was a defeat against Manchester City, and that can happen to anybody. So I think, look, there's an opportunity here for Manchester United to use the Chelsea victory last week, which was a game of complete chaos, but to use it as a real springboard because Manchester United, for the first time, I think, last season, sorry, for the first time last week, turned up.
00:12:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, he was.
00:12:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:12:13
Nick Britten
And they played in a way that we might have expected them to play and the way that Amarin might have expected them to play. And they've got to harness that. They've got to use that to kick on. It's a brilliant fixture for them, this.
00:12:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:12:25
Nick Britten
It's exactly what you would have wanted if you are trying to just get your season going. Massive win against Chelsea. Right. How do we win our next game? we i'll tell you what. Let's go to Brentford.
00:12:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it's a great opportunity for them I thought Man United were pretty good in the first game against Arsenal, to be honest. Losing that game knocked a bit of wind out of the sails, I think, but they didn't deserve to lose it. But you're right, it's a great game get ready game or get right game.
00:12:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Presumably, there'll be a home game to follow. So it's a big opportunity for Man United to actually put three three wins on the bounce. Things are starting

Chelsea vs. Brighton and Liverpool vs. Palace Analysis

00:12:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
to look much better for Amarim, if that happens.
00:13:01
Nick Britten
I think so. I expect them to win today and it will start looking to better. ah You wonder how long this kind of axe will hang over. i I have a feeling with Ameren that they could win 10 games in a row and then they'll lose one and suddenly, oh, it's Ameren out. He's just got that feel about it, the whole thing.
00:13:17
Nick Britten
No, he doesn't.
00:13:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, he doesn't help himself on that, does he? He's created his own narrative on that.
00:13:19
Nick Britten
know No, no. I think...
00:13:22
Nick Britten
100% he has. He keeps going at every press conference. Well, if you want to sack meate me, sack me. Tell what, sack me. I'll tell you what guys. I'm not going to change, so if you want to change, then you'll have to change your manager, et cetera. It has. He's created that narrative himself.
00:13:33
Nick Britten
It's not good. It's not going to do him any favours. But yeah, this is a good opportunity for them to to really kick on and start trying to put that run together that they need and that will get everybody a little bit more enthused.
00:13:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Makes sense. going for an away win then?
00:13:50
Nick Britten
I'll go for a way win. mean, Brentford's form, you know, 3-1. They started well against Fulham last week and took the lead.
00:13:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:13:56
Nick Britten
But then they just collapsed a little bit.
00:13:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Frat child.
00:13:59
Nick Britten
Yeah, I know. a Good draw with Chelsea the last time out in the Premier League. Lost to Sunderland. I don't know. They are where we expect them to be. They're, what, 17th in the Premier League.
00:14:12
Nick Britten
That's where we kind of thought. 17th, 18th, 20th. That's kind of where we expect them. Yeah, I think Manchester United will be too strong for them today. So, away with
00:14:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
wait went I've got it down as a draw. I think, ah yeah, Brentford are fragile. They're dreadful start to the season. I think they have just shown a bit more signs of life ah in the last few weeks.
00:14:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
and i And I don't think United are quite there. The game against Chelsea, of course, was just a it was just a lottery, really. I mean, after they lost Sanchez, you after a couple of minutes, really. ah pop Palmer goes off. I think...
00:14:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
they make two substitutions in the first 20 minutes or something?
00:14:52
Nick Britten
Yeah.
00:14:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
and there was I mean,
00:14:53
Nick Britten
Yeah. All their attacking talent, really. I mean, Palmer was injured.
00:14:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
but
00:14:55
Nick Britten
Palmer was injured.
00:14:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
it's a very difficult game to judge exactly how good Man United are. So I think they're not quite there yet. I'm going to go for draw. Right, just kind of carrying on on that theme. Chelsea, of course, can they bounce back from that rather surreal game against Man United?
00:15:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Brighton had an amazing win in the EFL. I mean, they really got the shooting boots on. What do you reckon? I can't can't quite work out who Chelsea are yet.
00:15:21
Nick Britten
No. They're very, very... They're just a strange team. They're just a strange team. They're strange team to watch. They're a strange team because you're never quite sure who's going to play. They're a strange team because Maresco does strange things on the touchline. I don't know.
00:15:38
Nick Britten
It's really... I can't get my head around Chelsea at all this season. And Brighton have... Not really started the season that well. they need They need more. They need to kind of hit the straps a little bit.
00:15:51
Nick Britten
It's an odd game, this. I think Chelsea will have... I mean they they'll have too much. i think they'll have too much for Brighton today. Palmer being injured again is out for, what, two, three weeks. That's not great.
00:16:03
Nick Britten
They've got enough in their ranks, Chelsea. to win the game. But they're a little bit like Manchester United where you just go, look you need to you two or three convincing performances to make everybody believe. And when I say everybody believe, I think half the time you think that means you, manager, and your players.
00:16:19
Nick Britten
Because a bit like Man United, they don't really look like they believe in what they're doing some of the time. when you when you watch them play. And that that you can see that just in in in their results and in the way they perform.
00:16:30
Nick Britten
So, yeah, it's good. Some the solar players have started well. I think Caisena started very, very well.
00:16:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Great player.
00:16:38
Nick Britten
Jaipedro started very, very well ah up tops.
00:16:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Great player.
00:16:42
Nick Britten
Laap obviously started the season, got injured. Palmer, in and out, injured again. Chalabar started the season well as well at the back. They've got good players. I just would like to see a little bit more from them, a bit more consistency.
00:16:55
Nick Britten
And then we'll get a sense of what they're going to do this season.
00:16:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think this could be a good game for Chelsea. ah i think I do expect them to win this, so I've got it down as a home win. I just think, as you say, they've got too much. I've been quite impressed, actually, with the firepower in the midfield, particularly Chelsea.
00:17:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think they'll be fine. I think they'll win this fairly convincingly. Brighton, obviously, you're going to have had a good result in the week, but yeah they're still finding their feet, I feel. So, yeah, I've got a home win. What about, can I put you down for the same?
00:17:28
Nick Britten
Yes, absolutely, yeah.
00:17:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, now, interesting one, a really interesting one. ah Because we were talking about the EFL draw. And, of course, one of the games of the next round and efl ah sorry in the Cup, the League Cup, is Liverpool against Palace.
00:17:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now we've got ah Palace v Liverpool, the only two unbeaten sides in the league. I know Palace are very dear to your heart. They have been amazing, considering they were going through quite they've had a lot of change.
00:18:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
watch your What's what your view on this? I still think Liverpool are vulnerable. Palace played great against them in the Community Shield. If anyone's going to beat Liverpool ah and Arsenal will be praying someone does, this could be it.
00:18:18
Nick Britten
It could be. It could be. I still think that Palace are started trying to find their feet after the departure of Eze. Mateta, it's good see him back on the score sheet last week. Saas, I think having him fit and playing today is good news there. It's good news.
00:18:37
Nick Britten
Liverpool, they'll go into this game as as favourites, but Palace are hard to beat. They're

Leeds vs. Bournemouth Match Evaluation

00:18:42
Nick Britten
hard to beat. I can't quite see a way Palace are going to win the game, but I can see a way where they can take something out of it.
00:18:50
Nick Britten
Because defensively, they're very, very strong.
00:18:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, really good.
00:18:53
Nick Britten
They are very strong. That three of Lacroix and Richard and Gehi, they've been together now for a while. They've been settled for a while. They've got Henderson behind them. They they all know what they're doing.
00:19:07
Nick Britten
ah So I think it'll be difficult for Liverpool this afternoon. And i can I'm going for a draw in this game.
00:19:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Interesting. i think I think Palace are going to score. I think Palace could score two today. I just think but just think Liverpool have got the ven defensive frailties.
00:19:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think Palace...
00:19:27
Nick Britten
I'm not sure. I think that was a conversation to have three weeks ago. And we did have that conversation three weeks ago.
00:19:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:19:34
Nick Britten
I think they're looking a lot more settled now. I think they are looking a lot more settled Put me down for draw.
00:19:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay. Well, interesting. I'm going to put you down for a draw.
00:19:44
Nick Britten
I mean, Palace haven't lost a game for 11 matches in the Premier League.
00:19:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
which is why I'm going for a home victory
00:19:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
and God knows the yeah God knows the Premier League needs it
00:19:52
Nick Britten
Really? You're going for... Wow, that's good.
00:19:57
Nick Britten
It does need it. 100% needs it. Everybody will be on Palace. Everybody, every single person who supports football today, apart from Liverpool fans, will be on Palace's side. Because I'll tell you what, we're going to come Arsenal in a bit.
00:20:08
Nick Britten
But if Arsenal drop points and Liverpool win, you know ah how long how can we by what early October say the team is over?
00:20:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
We can call it. We can call the league in September.
00:20:17
Nick Britten
Yeah. Yeah. so yeah Crackers.
00:20:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it's it's crazy. Next one, Leeds against Bournemouth. ah Leeds, solid start, 12th place. Bournemouth in fourth place. They've had a great start. Leeds yet to concede at home.
00:20:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Great win at Wolves last week, if you can have a great win at Wolves. I mean, they just hand them out.
00:20:37
Nick Britten
and what got do It was a great win at Wolves because they were one down.
00:20:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
And you were worried about their firepower, weren't you, Leeds' firepower?
00:20:41
Nick Britten
ah
00:20:43
Nick Britten
Massively, they scored three goals in 15 minutes. I think ah think the emergence of Stack as as an attacking midfielder has really, really helped.
00:20:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:20:51
Nick Britten
He looks great. He looks a really, really good player. And having having slaughtered Dominic Calvin-Lewin, he scored a really good goal last week. very
00:20:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
He did.
00:20:59
Nick Britten
yeah Very good header. so But I still worried about Leeds 5-0. I'm not going to lie. I mean, it's a one-off game and it's Wolves who have played five, lost five. So it was not like they've gone to Anfield and done it.
00:21:10
Nick Britten
So yeah, fair play. But fair play. well Credit where credit is due.
00:21:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:21:15
Nick Britten
And I don't like and i don't like giving credit to Leeds United, as you well know.
00:21:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, I do know that. But Bournemouth obviously started really well. Do you see any prospect of them walking away from Ellen Road with the three points today?
00:21:29
Nick Britten
Yeah, I do. Yeah, yeah. I was very disappointed in Bournemouth last week when they played Newcastle. Not because they didn't...
00:21:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:21:35
Nick Britten
It was a nil-nil draw, but it was a real, real borefest. It was a terrible game involving two of the league's potentially most exciting sides on their day.
00:21:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:21:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:21:44
Nick Britten
I was looking forward to really good game. I'm thinking this could be 2-2, not quite sure which way it's going to go. It was just a really drab nil-nil draw. And Bournemouth have got to do better than that.
00:21:57
Nick Britten
They've got to do better than that. They're capable.
00:21:58
Nick Britten
We know that. No, don't. No, I don't. I think they've demonstrated that they can play away from home just as well as they play at home.
00:21:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
You've born with a very big home team.
00:22:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
what are you going
00:22:06
Nick Britten
No, I don't.
00:22:09
Nick Britten
I'm going for an away win.
00:22:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay. Interesting. interesting
00:22:15
Nick Britten
Bournemouth have got really good...
00:22:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm going.
00:22:15
Nick Britten
Something they don't necessarily associate Bournemouth. They've got a very, very good defence this year.
00:22:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:22:20
Nick Britten
Very good defence.
00:22:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Which is amazing because they lost so many players.
00:22:23
Nick Britten
Yeah, yeah. ah they've They've settled into it really, really well. So, you good form. Yes, the draw against Newcastle. That came on the back of three consecutive victories. And the only game they've lost, I think this season, is the Liverpool one at the start the season, if I'm right thinking that.
00:22:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, which they nearly didn't lose.
00:22:41
Nick Britten
Yeah. ah So, yeah, they've got plenty they've got plenty to offer. I think they'll be too strong for Leeds.
00:22:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, i'm going for a draw. I quite fancy Leeds at the moment. I think they've they are quite buoyant. i think it'll be a cauldron.

Man City vs. Burnley Outcome Predictions

00:22:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I think it'll be a really big atmosphere. And it's the kind of game, I think, when they started the season, they would have looked down the fixture list and thought, yeah, we can get a win out that And that
00:23:02
Nick Britten
Well, I think a lot of teams would have looked at Bournemouth at the start of the season and thought, we can get a win out of that because they a lot of flux, but it hasn't turned out to be the case. It's really interesting, yeah.
00:23:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, they've done it they've done very well. very well But I just think they might be slightly... ah We may revert to the mean a little bit, I think. So i'm I'm going for a draw, if not... Man City, Burnley.
00:23:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now, easy is there any possibility at all... of Bernie getting anything out of this now I should say though Man City worst start to a campaign in the Premier League since 2006 so that I mean everyone's I even i have i thought oh Man City have got off to a better start than last season well actually they haven't what's what's your view on this
00:23:54
Nick Britten
Comfortable win against Manchester United couple of weeks ago. Comfortable win against Napoli. Oh, yeah, we haven't talked about that, have we? We haven't talked about that.
00:24:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah and what would
00:24:05
Nick Britten
Yeah, this was this was the Napoli that you said, we're going to win the Champions League and we're going to beat Man City and we're going to, yeah, by the way.
00:24:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
right
00:24:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, you know, it's early days. Still halfway through the first half, aren't we?
00:24:18
Nick Britten
Is that what you've got to say?
00:24:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:24:21
Nick Britten
It's early days. Is that it?
00:24:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. I fancy that.
00:24:24
Nick Britten
Okay. Then a weird, weird draw against Arsenal last week where we saw Manchester City do stuff that they've never, ever really done before, which is just get a goal early on and then for the entire second half just play a sort of 5-5-0 formation and and yeah know back to the good old days of long ball football, kick it, head it, kick it, head it, get rid...
00:24:47
Nick Britten
and that And then they were they were what a couple of minutes away from being successful and winning the game until they conceded in injury time.
00:24:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:24:54
Nick Britten
So what are we what are we to expect? I'll tell you what we're going to expect today. We're going to expect goals, goals, goals. what going to expect. Now, whether or not that happens, because Burnley, if if they're nothing else, Burnley, and to be honest, they're not much more, but if they're nothing else, they're obstinate and they are organised and they are disciplined and they are very, very good at shutting the door.
00:25:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:25:17
Nick Britten
So I kind of expect this game to be a little bit...
00:25:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
well They were in the championship.
00:25:21
Nick Britten
Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. But they are they've they've they've kind of carried that on, I think, this season the Premier League in terms of in terms of of of how they play. And last week against Forest, yeah that last 25 minutes was like the Alamo in many ways.
00:25:34
Nick Britten
And they just kept it out.
00:25:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm. Hmm. Hmm.
00:25:35
Nick Britten
Dubravka made a couple of really good saves. when they played Liverpool a couple of weeks ago home, it was just... That's the kind of game I'm expecting to see today. It's just defence versus attack for 90 minutes and can Man City score?
00:25:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it has to be. You can't see Burnley having more than 25% possession, can You just can't see it.
00:25:56
Nick Britten
no don't No, I don't think so. I think it'll i think they'll set up they'll set up the way...
00:25:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
If Man City have 25% possessions, who else? said you know yeah yeah It's going to be dominated by Man City.
00:26:04
Nick Britten
yeah Yeah, it will be dominated by Man City, which is why I put Man City players in my fantasy league team this week.
00:26:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
but Good lad, you're learning. So I've gone for a home victory. Have you gone for a home victory as well?
00:26:16
Nick Britten
ah Yeah, I've gone for a home victory and it may all depend. the The nature of the victory may all depend on if Man City can get a goal in the first 15 minutes of

Forest and Sunderland Game Prospects

00:26:27
Nick Britten
the game. Because if they can get a goal in the first 15 minutes, it could be 5-0.
00:26:30
Nick Britten
If they can't, it could be out of a tough afternoon where they struggle and and Burnley just dig in and dig in and dig it in and it might just be 1-0. But I think either way, they'll win the game.
00:26:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
My money is on the 5-0 outcome. Now, here's a game.
00:26:44
Nick Britten
Yeah, i'd like I think so as well. Because they've got... they've got The emergence of ah Baby Reindeer, as I like to call him, Reinders, who's come out of nowhere to really provide some good attacking flair.
00:26:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Great player.
00:26:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Foden looks back on 5-0.
00:26:56
Nick Britten
odin's but Foden is back in the team. And that's a massive plus. Back in a team, we play well.
00:27:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
I
00:27:03
Nick Britten
And as we know, we know what Haaland's start the season has been like. Everything he touches goes in the back of the season.
00:27:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
think Captain Harland in your... Well, I mean,
00:27:10
Nick Britten
he's going to break his leg in the first five minutes, isn't he? He's going to, because I've captained him. I've brought him into the team and I've captained him, which means he's going to get he's going to score no goals or get sent off.
00:27:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Don't say that because I've capped in them as well. So brilliant. Okay, brilliant. Now, the next game, i've got I picked this game out while we were reviewing this earlier in the week, Forest Sunderland, really because I've got a bit of a thing about Postacoglu.
00:27:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know, we spoke yesterday or maybe the day before about the re-emergence of the direct approach. ah And that seems to be the ah kind of ah flavor of the month, really.
00:27:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
The flavor the season, maybe. Of course, Post Coglu is the opposite. He's not a long ball guy. He's kind of but everyone push forward, control control it.
00:28:01
Nick Britten
Thank you.
00:28:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're very assertive or very aggressive in terms of our forward play. It's not ah the more long ball direct style. So he he's kind of ah going away from what seems to be the trend.
00:28:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
And of course, he's he's not had a victory in his first four games. I just got feeling this is quite an important game for Forrest. And Sunderland are no mugs. I mean, Forrest are in 15th. Sunderland are in 7th.
00:28:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
If at the start of the season we'd said this game, they'd be in those particular positions, think we would have been surprised. So I think this is got is going to be a very, very interesting game. What do you think?
00:28:40
Nick Britten
I wholeheartedly agree. It was interesting watching Forest play against Burnley. They should have won that game last week.
00:28:46
Nick Britten
They should have won that game.
00:28:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:28:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. yeah
00:28:48
Nick Britten
was there there wass a little bit of um profligacy in front of goal and Dubravka pulled off a couple of really smart saves towards the end of the game. But i was really it's really interesting to see something you haven't really seen it from Forest for a while now.
00:29:03
Nick Britten
There was moments in game where Milenkovic, the centre half, had the ball. but he had the ball in the attacking third, so Burnley's defensive third, and he must have had seven or eight players in front of him.
00:29:15
Nick Britten
and like, whoa, okay, why is the centre-half playing where a 10 should play? And look at all the players that he's got around him. And now we know that's the kind of way Ange plays, you just don't really expect you to see it from Forrest.
00:29:27
Nick Britten
It leaves them vulnerable on the break if they're going to play like that. And they don't have, I think they've got the pace in defence, particularly in the middle of defence, to to cope with that. Sunderland, as you quite rightly say, are, surprised a lot of people.
00:29:40
Nick Britten
and But I think Sunderland away from home is going to be a different beast from Sunderland at home this season. I think the Stadium of Light will be a difficult place to go. And I think that's where they will pick up the vast majority of their points. I'm not,
00:29:51
Nick Britten
I don't know enough about them so far because it's so early in the season to know what they're going to be like on the road. But I think this will be a tough afternoon for them. think going to be a tough afternoon. Forrest, again, I say, probably should have beaten Burnley. They were very close to beating Real Betis in the middle in in the midweek, letting a late goal there.
00:30:07
Nick Britten
It'll come. It'll come for Forrest and I think today will be the day.
00:30:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
So you've got down as a home win. I'm going for a draw. I think it's going to be another.
00:30:13
Nick Britten
Yeah, home win. I'm going for a home win. I think it willll be it should be an entertaining game. i think it'll be quite a tight game, but I think Forest will have too much. I feel that that momentum in the last couple of days is building, the last couple

Spurs vs. Wolves Prediction

00:30:25
Nick Britten
of in last days building.
00:30:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay. Okay. Now, I've just taken an executive decision, Nick. We're going to review the three games being played ah after today, tomorrow. ah because we're already at 30 minutes.
00:30:37

00:31:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wolves are in 20th. Thomas Frank seems to have completely re-galvanised, post-post-apost-a-coglub, ah the Spurs team. Wolves look a bit bereft, except they go and beat Everton 2-0 in the EFL Cup. So what's your prediction for this one?
00:31:51
Nick Britten
A little plug, Kenny. A little plug.
00:31:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
We
00:31:53
Nick Britten
You and I do the Road to World Cup 26 podcast, which is out every week. It's a great podcast. It's the only podcast on the entire planet which is dedicated to next year's World Cup.
00:31:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
look at
00:32:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:32:04
Nick Britten
During that World Cup podcast, every week, we do a little thing called Kenny's Quiz, where I'll ask you three two, three questions on whatever the focus focus of the day is. And you get your pipe out, just like doing now.
00:32:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
I get the iPhone.
00:32:16
Nick Britten
So I'm just going to move...
00:32:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
I get the iPhone.
00:32:18
Nick Britten
um'm go I'm going to loan Kenny's quiz for one day and one day only into the daily Premier League podcast. There are only three sides in Premier League history who have started with six straight defeats, which is what's going to happen if Wolves lose today.
00:32:34
Nick Britten
Do you know who they are? In fact, you know, many of them.
00:32:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
and premierly are which shows you talking Premier League. I would say something like Sheffield United. Someone like that. And maybe someone like Barnsley or someone like that.
00:32:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
But they'd be my guess.
00:32:54
Nick Britten
Okay, only three sides have ever started with six defeats in the competition. Portsmouth in two thousand and nine two thousand and Crystal Palace in 2017-2018, and Norwich City in 2021-22.
00:33:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Oh, wow.
00:33:07
Nick Britten
Now, Norwich ended up going down, Portsmouth ended up going down, Palace stayed up.
00:33:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right.
00:33:15
Nick Britten
So the Obans aren't good for Wolves, because I think they'll lose this game. Tottenham will be way too good for them. And that will mean six games, six defeats, zero points. And already you're thinking, hmm, hmm, they're not going to stay up this season.
00:33:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
i think I think we are.
00:33:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And we were lording the Wolves manager because he he was able to galvanise Wolves last season.
00:33:36
Nick Britten
We were when he arrived, yeah.
00:33:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wolves were real danger and we thought, hey, this lad's a good good manager.
00:33:38
Nick Britten
Yeah.
00:33:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm very surprised at Wolves' form this season so far. Maybe, just maybe, they get a foothold after that 2-0 victory over Everton.
00:33:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, that's...
00:33:53
Nick Britten
Maybe they needed it. It's a morale-boosting win, but not at all.
00:33:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's not the game you want after that, is it? You want Brentford at home, don't you, really?
00:33:59
Nick Britten
and and Not at all.
00:34:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Next game.
00:34:01
Nick Britten
Not at all. I think the chances of Wolves getting anything out of this are pretty slim.
00:34:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Great.

Episode Conclusion and Future Teasers

00:34:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay. So that's that. We pretty much agree on some. A few we don't. ah Interesting to see what the results will be. We'll be back tomorrow. We're here every day. Day in. Day out. Relentless.
00:34:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Professional, we like to call it
00:34:19
Nick Britten
Don't make it sound like such a chore. We love it.
00:34:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, we do love it. We do love it. So we'll be back tomorrow to talk about the rest of the games and talk about the results that we've had this on this day and included, obviously.
00:34:30
Nick Britten
And you know what else we're going to talking about? We're going to be talking about Derby winning at Wrexham.
00:34:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, yeah.
00:34:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
In the El Clasico.
00:34:36
Nick Britten
That's what we're going to be talking about.
00:34:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh,
00:34:39
Nick Britten
Yeah, I've changed my mind from my earlier prediction. I'm now going for a Rams win.
00:34:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh what score.
00:34:46
Nick Britten
eighteen no
00:34:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, okay, okay. Right, best luck with that. I will look forward to seeing you. I'll be knocking on your door about half past three. Thanks for listening, everybody. It's been a pleasure, as always. you, everyone.
00:34:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I hope your team wins. hope...
00:35:01
Nick Britten
I certainly hope my
00:35:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, yeah, yeah, no hope. Good luck to everybody. see you so See you soon, see you tomorrow, and we'll go through it all again.
00:35:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh.
00:35:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's bad omen.
00:35:22
Nick Britten
I'm sorry, folks.
00:35:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's a bad omen.
00:35:23
Nick Britten
You've got to listen to me.
