This song has been with me through life's challenges and I want to share it with you.

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark

At the end of a storm
There's a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark

Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone

You'll never walk alone

Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone

You'll never walk alone

Reflections on Last Episode

00:00:00
Speaker
Hello. All right. Before I go into today, I just want to be honest about last week. I'm a little disappointed with myself.
00:00:16
Speaker
Well, this point of that I didn't actually listen to the final product or the release product or whatever. I mean, I recorded I spoke I remember speaking but I try not to go back and listen. I don't know. I have a hard time listening to myself but I think I don't I don't think I'm alone in that one. Anyway,
00:00:39
Speaker
But I was really fired up for that topic for that concept. It's it's really a valuable one. It's one that I've benefited from tremendously, like I said, and I feel like I kind of underserved it and I would.
00:00:56
Speaker
My intent of recording about that last week was to try to share it and provide value for whoever's listening. And I just don't know if I kind of hit center on that one. I finished, you know, when I pressed stop on the record,
00:01:17
Speaker
I was kind of like, ah, man, I don't know. I feel like I kind of went off on a little bit of a tangent or I didn't give enough examples. You know what? Hey, I apologize if it wasn't what you thought it would be or if it wasn't what I cracked it up to be or whatever. So just being honest with you guys, just having some some transparency here. I don't think it was I don't think it was my best work. And I guess that's
00:01:48
Speaker
That's always going to bother me, not doing my best work in anything, really. And I wanted to be open and I don't really think it's a matter of being vulnerable in this one. I just want to be open and just say like, yeah, I was a little disappointed with that. I'm glad I put it out there.

Embracing the Flow of Life

00:02:09
Speaker
I'm glad I shared it.
00:02:10
Speaker
Hope it was compelling enough or valuable enough to have you then take it and run with it and make it yours And if if that if that happened then awesome, I did my job It is something that I think can be Incredibly impactful though, and I just you know don't want to miss the mark on that one So yeah, anyway yak yak enough of that
00:02:34
Speaker
Okay, so today, so I had no idea what I was going to talk about today. About, I don't know, 30 minutes ago, I was brushing my teeth and we were kind of, Kay and I were kind of getting ready to go our sort of separate ways for the day, do our different things. And she was like, hey, what are you going to talk about today? She knows Wednesday mornings I record. And I said, I have no idea. I was literally just thinking about that.
00:03:00
Speaker
And I think that that's, that's okay. Um, and I'm glad I didn't have a pre-scheduled thing because what came out and what came up rather, uh, totally just organically and naturally and, and not really thinking directly about what am I going to record? I'm going to seek something out or I'm going to go back through my notes or my board or whatever, wherever I have some of these ideas written down. Um,
00:03:29
Speaker
So the topic that I'm going to talk about today is it came up just in the flow of life. And man, like, that's what it's all about. That to me is the coolest stuff where we allow ourselves to ebb and flow with the
00:03:53
Speaker
with just the natural course of life and we're present and we're aware and we're open up and we're really kind of in touch or in sync with what's going on and when we are, we're kind of, I think, living a fully engaged life.
00:04:09
Speaker
Get it not you know every single second of the day can be Can be that but I think we give ourselves far less credit than we should or we write ourselves off far too early You know and kind of Adhere to this other this other form of life that robs us of our presence so anyway, I
00:04:37
Speaker
Was was was not sure what i was gonna talk about kind of had an idea and thought i'm like alright yeah i'll explore that and then this thing popped up and so what happened is i saw a.

Liverpool's Anthem and Identity

00:04:50
Speaker
a video posted on the Instagram. It was David Hyatts, actually, who's the co-owner of Hyatt Genes and the due lectures. You guys have heard my recap of that. Awesome dude. Look up to the guy for what he's done, what he stands for, and what he's doing.
00:05:12
Speaker
and it was a little thing, a piece of paper, it said wow across it, and then it did like this thing where down the one, so there's W-O-W, down the one W, you put I-N, so vertically from top to bottom, it's spelled win.
00:05:27
Speaker
Then if we move to the right to the I Above it like kind of two two sections above just put four dash and then I so it looked like four to one and Then for the third w two kind of letters above it was y n w a now anybody that
00:05:50
Speaker
is familiar with soccer, um, or follows English Premier League, even just a little bit knows, uh, maybe not knows exactly, but probably has a good idea of what that stands for, what that little code thing is. And what he was saying was that the game yesterday, Liverpool Barcelona was just like, wow, it was awesome. It was, um, if you're a Liverpool fan, it was particularly awesome. So they won four to one. Um, and so that was when, and then four to one was the score.
00:06:21
Speaker
And then, if you're a fan, you know what the YNWA is. If not, you might be like, I'm not sure what's going on there. So that stands for, and I asked Kay. So I saw Kay liked it. I liked it as well.
00:06:36
Speaker
I said, hey, did you know what David Hyatt's little video thing was? And she was like, no, I didn't, I didn't really know. And like, that's fine. Like she's not a soccer fan or followed it or anything. And so I explained to her, said like, well, you know, they won four to one. It's a big game. And the Y N W A stands for you'll never walk alone.
00:06:59
Speaker
and what that is is it's kind of it's like Liverpool's anthem other clubs have it as well adopted it as theirs but Liverpool by far sing it the loudest and and have made it really truly theirs and it's a song um
00:07:16
Speaker
I guess it's an older song. It's probably in the 40s or 50s. It came out in the 60s. It got re-released. Jerry and the Pacemakers, I believe, re-recorded it or released it in their Liverpool fans. So I want to say in the early 60s is when
00:07:37
Speaker
Liverpool fans started singing it and it was kind of like a top 10 hit I believe at the time I think he got the top 10 anyway popular like pop culture kind of song it's similar to
00:07:50
Speaker
What is it that's sung at Yankee Stadium in the seventh inning stretch? I'm not a baseball fan, so I don't know that, but I know at least enough that my friends love that. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, just Google. You'll never walk alone, Liverpool. Anyway, they sing it.
00:08:11
Speaker
They sing it before every game And it is just if it doesn't give you goosebumps. I'm not sure you're human to see and to hear
00:08:25
Speaker
sometimes 100,000 fans, however many are in these massive stadiums, sing with clarity and passion and everything they have and be in unison. It is just amazing.
00:08:41
Speaker
And I think that that's so cool for what sports can provide. I spent most of my time, you know, within the sporting world, like on the field and had the benefit of an honor and privilege of playing at some of the highest levels and playing in soccer and hearing our fans just, you know, chant your name or yell and just
00:09:08
Speaker
It's awesome. It really is just a power that is incredibly, just powerful in its passion and it's a positive thing that sports can provide to us. So this isn't about sports though. This isn't about me saying when I was a soccer player and what it means and it's not enough. I just wanted to give a little bit of a history on the song.
00:09:38
Speaker
Liverpool makes it special though. Liverpool makes it special, unfortunately, through tragedy. And they as a club, I think, authentically remember their past and their past tragedies. And in the late 80s, I think it was 89, 89 or 90, right around there,
00:10:09
Speaker
They were playing a game at, it's the Hillsborough Disaster. So basically they were playing a game, an away game, Liverpool, the Liverpool section of fans in the stadium. They were overcrowded and the stadium collapsed. That part of it collapsed. And there was a whole, you know, investigation and unfortunately all of the kind of negligence or people not doing their jobs properly thing went along with those.
00:10:38
Speaker
None of that makes it any better for the 96 people who were killed and crushed to death and You know you think about what the purpose is everybody's coming together to cheer on their fans or to cheer on their team And be together and it's a sporting game. You know it's a sporting match and everybody goes back to their lives at the end of it and
00:11:02
Speaker
You know to have a tragedy like that is obviously It's gutting and so Liverpool doesn't doesn't forget that The youngest kid was Ted and That was the cousin of who became probably one of the most famous Liverpool players of all time Stephen Gerrard and Love that like him as a player was he was just an amazing player anyway
00:11:33
Speaker
when you hear these fans sing this song you'll never walk alone and you know the history with what this club has kind of been through the tragedy and to have you know uh almost a hundred fans killed and almost 800 fans injured in this stadium collapse like it means something it really really means something and
00:12:00
Speaker
And that's what this is about. Like that's what, that's what I'm talking about today.

Personal Reflections and Anniversaries

00:12:05
Speaker
Um, and this song, I've known about it for a long time because of just being in the, being in soccer and playing at high levels and just, you know, knowing it.
00:12:19
Speaker
But man, this song. And this song today. Today is my wedding anniversary. And Kay and I forget what our anniversary is. We don't forget because we don't care. We kind of forget because
00:12:46
Speaker
I don't know, every day we try to make a special day together and be grateful and be thankful because we know and we've experienced what not being able to be together is. Whether that was when I was in training, deployed,
00:13:10
Speaker
just living elsewhere in the army. You know, we know how precious life is and the moments we share and the connection that we can have. And so what's, what like one day is pales in comparison to every day. We're not great with dates too, but anyway. So why am I talking about that? Well,
00:13:41
Speaker
I, um, I showcased this video of Liverpool fans singing, singing, you'll never walk alone. And I was telling her like, look, like this is awesome. You know, and I, I was like getting emotional and you know, maybe it's because I hadn't thought about that song in a long time.
00:14:11
Speaker
I don't know. I'm not a huge, I like Liverpool, but I'm not like a diehard fan, so there's not that. I think it's because that this song means something to me. And it's been with me during really hard times. It's been with me during really dark times. I've sung it to myself when I needed
00:14:41
Speaker
to hear its message. I've sung it to myself when I needed to feel you were with me. You know, even though we were worlds apart, I listened to the lyrics and I think that it's in many ways a mantra for how I want to live and it's a way
00:15:12
Speaker
It's, it's a way to capture beliefs in support. And it's something that I have a tremendous amount of respect for in doing, and it's something I want to make sure I'm doing well. So there's a little bit of an accountability, uh, flavor to it as well. It's something I believe in.
00:15:42
Speaker
and however tired or broken or beaten down that I am or that I become, I need you to know I'm always with you and that you'll never walk alone. And this is a shorter one.
00:16:11
Speaker
But this episode, honestly, it wasn't for you, the listener. It wasn't for me. It is for you, Kay. My wife, on our anniversary, and it's my commitment to you. I love you. Liverpool, they're a football club staked in history.
00:16:40
Speaker
of spine-tingling glory and at times truly heartbreaking tragedy. But when you are part of Liverpool Football Club, you'll never walk alone.
00:18:13
Speaker
Oh!
