Speaker: Well, hello and welcome to this week's episode of the Purple Door Podcast, a friend's rewatch pod. I'm one of your hosts, Alistair, alongside, as ever, Deanne. Deanne, how are you today?

Speaker: I'm doing awesome, Al. i am doing awesome. It is hot and sweaty outside, and my ice cream melted. But I ate it anyway. You managed. It was impressive. It was... Yeah. I'm just saying. It was delicious. And, um I feel that it is a travesty that you have never had a fudge pop, blue a Bluebell fudge pop.

Speaker: Indeed. good I'm going to have to write this wrong. It's on the list of things to to correct. Yeah. And yeah, I mean, I got nothing against it. Just never, never had one.

Speaker: um Bluebell, a well-known in these parts of the country ice cream brand, and it is pretty good. he Yeah. It's a Texas classic.

Speaker: That's right. Well, this week we are looking at the one with the girl from Poughkeepsie. Poughkeepsie is one of those words, if I ever see it, I have to say it the way that the the train ticket conductor guy says He kind of goes, Poughkeepsie, Poughkeepsie. Yeah. And I have to say it, if nothing else, in my head.

Speaker: In the way that he does. We will start, as always, with a round of bamboozled. i have, as always, lost track completely of where we are. Who starts this week?

Speaker: Well, this is 10. That's an even number. So that would be you, Al. Fantastic. All right. Well, I've got a slightly unusual first question because there's two different correct answers.

Speaker: A slight continuity error, if you will. Yeah. Oh, gosh. Okay. I mean, if I'm being picky, it's a continuity error. The first question is, according to Ross, how far away is Poughkeepsie in terms of time?

Speaker: I can give you both those answers. Two hours and two and a half. Indeed. Uh-huh. Yes. Because i I was like, didn't you just say two and a half? Exactly. So jumped out at me that it was two. We will be discussing where Poughkeepsie is. Okay. Yeah, and such.

Speaker: ah Well, I want to discuss how in the world do you spell Poughkeepsie? Because the way that you actually spell it in any way that I would dream of spelling it are not the same. Not the same. Not the same.

Speaker: right. What have you got for me? All right. What is the last stop on the train?

Speaker: The last stop is Montreal. Montreal. Excellent. monrell headt thing I should say, i've not I watched this episode a couple of days ago. I think you watched it at least yesterday. So you know we're under a bit pressure, bit self-imposed pressure here.

Speaker: yeah Yes, yes. Alright, my second question, a classic. In the first Central Park scene where Rachel says she wants a man, what distinctive colour is Gunther's shirt?

Speaker: Oh my goodness. Is it lime green oh you're so you're yeah you're in the same kind of color wheel it's fluorescent yellow oh okay yeah very un-christmassy yeah yeah for sure all right um can you name four things on the board next to the freezer in the restaurant

Speaker: You know, I couldn't name one. Let's think. oh i'm i didn't know i I remember there being a board and it had, you know, like maybe stuff they need to get for the kitchen.

Speaker: I did not note any of them. So I'm just going to go chicken, beef, lamb and swordfish. Okay. well That's two.

Speaker: Oh, all right. they Well, wait, I have Beale, not lamb. Okay. I mean, I'm not getting the point anyway. So, hey, I'll take a couple of guesses. But swordfish, well, it said sword on there. but Right. But you figured that was swordfish because that's what she was asking for. Yeah. There's a lobster and T-bone and then some other things.

Speaker: that Some other bits and pieces. Yeah, that I was like, mm-hmm. All right, let's see. So it's, yeah, we're both one for two. Question three for you. Why did Monica's school bring in somebody from junior high?

Speaker: ah to go on the teeter-totter, the seesaw with her. To go on the seesaw with her. Poor Monica. Oh, no.

Speaker: What are the things that Ross likes about the girl from Pekitski? Whatever. pick From that place up there. How

Speaker: how many are you looking for? a and would be okay with three or all four. Okay, three or four. Okay, she's she's funny. Mm-hmm.

Speaker: She's got to be like pretty or something. um Very pretty. Very pretty. Funny. is she?

Speaker: I'm trying to think of like her occupation. Is she like a grad student or something? Maybe, but that's not it. She? Nope. I'm tapping out at two, unfortunately.

Speaker: Oh, yeah. So she's pretty smart, funny and fun. And ah and then the other girl, she's not as pretty.

Speaker: and And not, a you know, and then she, isn' I'm not sure if she's funny or racist. I mean, easy mistake to make. Confusion. Indeed. All right. Well, you've taken the lead, but question four for you is, and this is another one. Can you name three things? Can you name three of the things that Joey says rhymes with Rachel? Rachel.

Speaker: Oh, man. I have six, just so you know.

Speaker: Oh, man. Oh,

Speaker: Hang on. Marie Choll. And then he it's just stuff that ends with all. Yeah, pretty much. Yeah.

Speaker: Hmm.

Speaker: yeah I feel like a you're on the spot I know like yeah i can see the scene and i can hear them well nothing rhymes with Rachel what you mean lots of things rhyme with Rachel Rachel Rachel and then ah things that just end with oh Yeah, it's definitely just at the end, the final sound. Yeah.

Speaker: um I don't know. i have no idea. Tell me all six. ah All six. We have bagel, mail, ah jail, bail, cable, maple. Yeah. Yeah. They all rhyme with Rachel. It's a great job.

Speaker: Indeed. All right. This is my chance to draw level. Let's see what happens. All right. How many weeks has passed? since the giant christmas tree has been lit two weeks yes yes nice job nice job dig deep in the noggin for that one all right it's two out of four for both of us all right oh this this feels like a tough one i'm feeling a little bad about this Oh, gosh. Okay. Well, well, maybe not. Let's see. When Rachel yells at Chandler about telling Patrick he wants a serious relationship, what's on the Magna Doodle?

Speaker: Oh,

Speaker: And I'm going to give you a small hint. You could make an inference as to what might be on it, given some other stuff we see. Because if you didn't see it, you can't really guess.

Speaker: Out of milk. It's a Christmas tree.

Speaker: oh one All right. So i hope you have a couple of spares and you can choose your hardest question for me. Oh, okay. Oh.

Speaker: Okay, Al, pick a number through four. It's going to be three. Okay, what are three things that guys offer Chandler and order are for a date for Rachel?

Speaker: Ranger tickets. who bays Small batch Basil Haydens because I had to look at what that was. Okay, I'm looking forward to you telling me because I couldn't even understand what he was saying. Okay, and I don't fully understand it. And then they're also signing over the 401ks.

Speaker: Yes, nice. and You mean the robots? The robots. The robots work for him. You work with Robin? Robots? You ever watch the Goldbergs?

Speaker: ah We watched... Gosh, wait we we watched a good chunk of it. I don't know if we've seen all of it. Hilarious show.

Speaker: I love that show. But yeah, the dad, he says, robots. Robots. And so that's... That's what we say. Robert. I like it. George is a little um obsessed with that show right now because he's going into seventh grade and, you know, Adam is about that age.

Speaker: Yeah. And I'm like, oh, honey, that is not the world. that is not the world That is not the vibe, bruh. No, it's a a complete sidetrack. We've just started watching a Arrested Development, which I'd never seen before.

Speaker: ah so So far, very funny. ahhu I only watched just a little bit, and but that show, there was a couple of things that made me laugh.

Speaker: like And I was like, whoa, like I must have really thought that was funny. it was it's like I think we're maybe seven or eight episodes in, it's a guess. And yeah, so far, so good. I've got two bonus questions for you.

Speaker: Okay, well, I've got three. All right, so why don't you go first, because then we can alternate. All right, so what is the verse in Phoebe's song about Ross?

Speaker: Oh, I'm glad I didn't choose this one for the quiz. Dang, okay. Yeah, Ross.

Speaker: Nope. is it i mean, is this the one where she sings, saw Santa Claus, he says hello to Ross? That's a dead sentence. oh yeah that yeah it's not this one no what's this one ross didn't really decorate his tree with glass that's right yep yep that's it uh where do we find out phoebe used to live oh in prog in prog indeed Yeah. How she got there, I assume she had a passport at one time because I know that she mentions at some point they'll let her get a passport again.

Speaker: so yeah there's a story there to be told. All right. What are two boring jobs to Rachel?

Speaker: Oh, Chandler's response to this is brilliant. What are two jobs? Finance? No. um legally legal Legal and something.

Speaker: is he Accounting. Accounting. Yeah, no. ah ah What did you say? Finance? Yeah. and there's There's a song right now about ah a guy in finance. like That's a fancy job that is boring.

Speaker: And I think it means that yeah he's supposed to be have money. Oh. Very nice. like great Yeah, I got to think. There's like a line, a guy in finance. And one of my favorite lines in the office is Michael Scott's dating and somebody gave the dating advice of telling people, you always tell the the girl that you're in finance. So he tells people he's a bank tell teller. Bank teller, yes. It's so dumb. Oh my gosh. Just vintage Michael Scott. My last question for you, what does Joey think Orson Welles does?

Speaker: Burger King commercials. Burger King commercials. There you go. Yes. All right. How much money does Joey make in tips? Oh, it's in my notes. it's good It's like five, because it says the two, the two months, something like $527.

Speaker: Oh, very close. How about

Speaker: oh very close how about $565. I knew was like something and something that Actually, and There we go. There we go. Dang! You got lucky. I did get lucky with that that fifth and final question. You did Nice job. but you Thank you. Thank you. But you are still 4-2 ahead this season. Let's see. Where do we start off this week? We are in the boys' apartment.

Speaker: Joey has, I believe, 15 Oreos in his mouth. Yes, and I had written that as a question. So I accidentally deleted all of, I canceled the, I was putting in my questions to Kate.

Speaker: And I was like, I hadn't opened up my new doc yet. So I was like, well what I'll do is I'll send my questions to Kate. And then I'll just copy them over into the doc.

Speaker: Well, put in all my questions, and then instead of hitting send, I hit cancel. Oh, no. And so they got lost in this world of space. But that was one of my questions, was how many how many Oreos did Joey stuff in his mouth? I don't know if 15 is remotely realistic. I feel like it's not, but I don't that i don't i don't know. like I'm kind of now thinking about how that would how that would work. Yeah, because like thinking about marshmallows, 15 is an absurd amount.

Speaker: Yeah, that's just just crazy. Okay, and his teeth. Oh, my gosh. it i mean i what it's just It's just icky, isn't it? It's just... Let's see. I'm going to see if there's a world record for it. I don't see one. I'll do that later on. um So Ross comes in. He has met a girl on the train. I believe they were the only two in the carriage. And he kind of sounds a little creepy for a minute, but then backs off. I think he's like, I sat near the door so she'd have to pass me or something. Kind of. Yeah. Kind of. But she lives in Poughkeepsie. A small bit, a little bit of trivia is Lisa Kudrow went to Vassar College, which is in Poughkeepsie.

Speaker: Is it really? is. I've heard of Vassar. I don't know why, but I know of Vassar College. It's fancy. It's fancy. And it's fun to say. It is Vassar College in Poughkeepsie. So a little nod to her alma mater, I suppose, up there.

Speaker: um Want to talk about Central Park. I don't think it ever looks better than when it's all decorated for Christmas. Absolutely. I just love it. I think it's just amazing. ah Chandler, as you alluded to in the questions, he wants to take Kathy to the tree lighting, but the newspaper is two weeks old. um Rachel's in ah in a bit of a funk in this opening scene. She's lonely. She wants, you know, she's not dating anyone. She just wants to be with a man. I love Gunther in the background.

Speaker: Kind of get all excited and then hangs his head in shame. Because she says, I want a man. And then he... And I'm like, I don't know. That seems silly, right? yeah Yeah, this is this is your chance, Gunther.

Speaker: This was it. je You got this, man. But he did not. We believe in Gunther. I believe in Gunther. This is where Chandler kind of offers up offers to set up ah Rachel with some guys or a guy from her work, where she obviously says, yeah, had nobody from accounting or legal or whatever it was. And I don't know why. I just love Chandler's delivery. What was Ross, a lion tamer?

Speaker: yeah It's so well delivered. Monica comes in everyone in the kitchen, in the restaurant, they hate her.

Speaker: um They they w wrote nasty mean things on her hat. Yeah, they Yeah, she' is she's rightly down in the dumps at this point. It's a not going well.

Speaker: I liked Phoebe's take on it where she was like, well, maybe they meant to write quiet instead of quick. Okay. How often do you get emails or or whatever where wit quiet and quiet are misspelled?

Speaker: Like, yes it's obnoxious. on It happens a lot. It does. And I don't know why, but But yeah, it's just, i was just curious because I feel like I see that a lot.

Speaker: Yeah, it's like auto correct. Quiet and quiet. Okay, anyway. Oh, yeah, let's see. where are we Chandler suggests that you know they hire somebody or Monica hires someone just to fire them, show them who's boss, and like Orson Welles used to do. And and Joey, Joey being the good friend that is, he volunteers. He's happy happy to do this.

Speaker: Yeah, what a what a sweetie pie. as discussed many times, the best friend. think Yes. Now Orson Welles, that's 1984, right? It's okay and it's yeah or a War of the Worlds.

Speaker: oh I get him and George R.R. Martin. Their names mixed up. but I think you're right. i think it's i think it's Orson Welles. Okay, well there's Orson Welles and then there's George R.R. Martin.

Speaker: No, it's not George. It's Orson Welles and then, oh, Roy Orbison, maybe. I don't know. the singer. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. But who wrote, who wrote Weird?

Speaker: Who wrote 1984? Let's have look. I'm not sure. I mean, I know of it. 1984 book.

Speaker: George Orwell. George Orwell. Okay. Okay. So I am confusing George Orwell and Orson Welles. There we go. Okay. That's, I feel like there's a lot of similar letters in there. Yeah. So we'll have listeners yelling at the podcast going, it's, ah yeah, George Orwell, but I've got them confused as well.

Speaker: Yeah. Okay. But or Orson Welles, the Muppet movie in 1979. Yeah. was he was he's tied to that.

Speaker: You got David and Goliath. You've got the world War of the Worlds. Right? You got Citizen Kane in 1941. Hmm. Okay. So anyway.

Speaker: Okay. so e anyway Anyway, there we are. Joey is stepping up. um And let's see, we go over to the break room at Chandler's office. And again, Matthew Perry's delivery of just, oh, say Drew. like he he just doesn't know how to approach him. Asks Drew if he is single. And I think he says he's just kind of getting out of a relationship. And this other guy, I don't think we catch his name. He's like, oh, I'm single for her. I'm free for Rachel.

Speaker: Yes. Yeah, at this point, somebody offers some Rangers tickets. And then I think this is where humans Cubans and the small batch Basil Hayden's.

Speaker: yeah okay so what did you find so it's i mean it's a kentucky rye bourbon i don't quite get what small batches i'm assuming that that just means it was a limited edition you know year of some sort it's not particularly like it's 50 a bottle i just googled it before um we started recording so i'm not a bourbon aficionado but that doesn't sound extortionate to me like it's not particularly fancy I'm just saying. ah i

Speaker: I mean, maybe it is. I mean, a beer is like two bucks, three bucks, five bucks, depending on where you're going and what kind you're getting. But like, you know, 50 bucks is, I mean, nothing to be heard about. absolutely. oh absolutely ge I don't really know what the and an average cost of a bottle of bourbon is.

Speaker: so Yeah. But that's what, i mean, it's and it's quite a sort of niche joke. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. um But these these two guys start competing over Rachel and it turns out that there's going to be there's going to be more people. um We go over to the girl's apartment.

Speaker: So Phoebe has written the Christmas song featuring all of them and Rachel's name really doesn't rhyme with much despite Joey's efforts. Yeah, because she says, spin the dreidel, Rachel.

Speaker: Yes. it's like That doesn't really rhyme. It doesn't quite go. ah This is where Chandler bursts in and says, have I got the 50 guys for you? And signing over, what was it, the 401k and anything he wants at this point. Yes.

Speaker: You work with robots? Yes. it' It's so good. I did do a little diving into I can't remember who it is, but Chandler says that like his dad invented the the magnetic strip on the back of credit cards. Oh, yeah. because Oh, I like credit cards. So it was invited invented even in the 1960s by an IBM engineer called Forrest Parry.

Speaker: um It was a breakthrough for reliably attaching magnetic tape to a plastic card. But really the unsung hero of this is Dorothea, which is Forrest Perry's wife, because he came home from work basically one day and said, we need to figure out a way of attaching this to the card. Don't know how to do it. And she did it with her iron in the house.

Speaker: And it worked, didn't damage it. He went back in into work the next day and said, I know how to do this. We do this with a heat press. But it all came from the wife, Dorothea, the unsung hero of credit cards.

Speaker: Wow. I say bite me, lady. Credit cards are no good. Right. but No, I'm just kidding. That's just jokes, sorta.

Speaker: What did you say? In the 60s? In the 60s was when the magnetic strip was put on the back of a plastic card. Interesting. Yeah. and Because now we have the chips, you know, and then eventually i feel like that's kind of where Maybe. I don't know. but Yeah, I don't feel like i have swiped a card in a long time because you put the chip in or you just tap it.

Speaker: Right. um And sooner or later, it's all going to end up on our phones, which I know a lot of it is now. But I've never done like the tap and pay with your phone thing.

Speaker: you know I just started doing that? Yeah? Yeah, it's weird. It's real weird. i um do that at my...

Speaker: fun extra job right in their break room and because like i'm not gonna carry like my credit card and i'm not gonna do that and if i want a little snack or something i have my phone and boop and there you go crazy you go i've just never done it but uh it is tis the way of the future tis terrifying to me right but yeah yeah um Patrick is the front runner. He's a swimmer and his dad his his dad invented this magnetic strip. He works in the fine foods division. and yeah Which I don't understand. we yeah We never really do find out about Chandler's job but how it has a fine foods division.

Speaker: I don't know. You mean food and a robot? the robot's just worth there. And it's that exasperated look on her face. Like, that's such an obvious. i know. And then Chandler just is like um like, do I even interject here or just let it all happen?

Speaker: Just let it happen. And Monica, she's about to leave for work and then she and Joey practice their scene. I love the way that she kind of leans and gives him a kiss goodbye. um There's something very sweet about that moment.

Speaker: Absolutely. ah Yeah, so that's ah that scene is coming up. We go over to Central Park. Ross is leaving on a date with somebody. I think she lives uptown. I've just scribbled down the local area. Yeah.

Speaker: She's pretty, but she's not as, there we go, not as smart or funny, but she lives so close. um And this moment, this is where Joey comes in and he's forgotten to go to his first day at the restaurant.

Speaker: um In true Joey fashion, it just, I didn't write any notes down, but he just kind of, oh, and leaps up and just takes off out the door.

Speaker: Yeah, well, because he walks in and, oh hey, so how was your first day at the restaurant? That's it. He looks at his watch and goes, hey, it says a bad word. And then he just leaves. And it's like, oh, oh, okay, bye. There goes Joey. There goes Joey. Well, we go over to Alessandro's where Joey and Monica are both walking and they've set Monica's jacket on fire. Please tell me you have seen the outtakes of this episode.

Speaker: Mm-mm. Oh, we'll need to send them to you. It's so funny. Oh, okay. Because Joey does it, and then Matthew Perry runs in and starts just patting her on the boob. Oh, I have seen all that stuff. It's so well done. It's so funny. Yes. One of my favorite outtakes. um So that, I think, is quite a short scene. We end up back at Central Park. Rachel thinks Chandler has the best-tasted men, like father, like son. Like father, like son.

Speaker: Yeah, she had a very good time with Patrick and this is where Chandler's good intentions start to become unraveled a little bit because she thinks there might be a future and he says, what does he say? Something like, oh, I thought you were only looking for a fling and Rachel's things start clicking in her head.

Speaker: Yeah. yeah Yeah. That's exactly what happened. You didn't tell him that though, right? No. and No. Yeah. um Yeah. Yeah. It's all going to start falling apart for for Rachel and Chandler there.

Speaker: ah We go over to Alessandro's. Joey has created, i was going to ask you if but I thought you would knew this, his work nickname. Yeah, it's Dragons.

Speaker: Yes. That's so funny. it's like It's just such a joy thing as well. I don't know quite why, but just something completely unrealistic. It's, uh, I think it's fantastic.

Speaker: Yes, it's perfect. Yeah. So I tried to try out a cool new work name, nickname. Nickname. Yeah. Yeah. um Yeah. And there we go. I've got it scribbled down. His tips for Monday and Tuesday were 327 and 238.

Speaker: and two thirtytye um Because I think at this point, is this where Monica tries to fire him? Or or can of speak to everyone and he doesn't speak up? Because suddenly got all this money in his hand.

Speaker: um I was also going to ask you what the special was. Do you remember what the special was? It was something with mango. I've got Chilean sea bass.

Speaker: No! Yeah, maybe and then maybe there's something with a mango. Yes, Chilean sea bass. With mango relish is what I have. Am I talking nonsense or this could be like folklore? Was Chilean sea bass, did that have another name and it was kind of like trash fish?

Speaker: And so they kind of rebranded it, gave it a new name and now it's kind of, it's enjoyed because it had a not not so ah welcoming name. Oh, I don't know. That's interesting. Yeah, I might might be onto something. i'll need to double check that. maybe How about Patogan Toothfish?

Speaker: is what it use is There we go. what it's called You saw Toothfish on a menu. Yeah. Probably not. It does sound like a good punk band. Toothfish. Yes, a Patagonian.

Speaker: Sorry, I don't know what I was reading before, but um I was not using my reading skills. Patagonian Toothfish. That was it. and Where you're looking, does it say why they renamed it? Because in my head, and it was just to make it more appealing, essentially, to to sell at restaurants.

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah, that was it. Well, I haven't seen it yet. Okay. it just that ah hunt The pat ah Patagonian and the Arctic tooth fishes are sometimes sold under the culinary name Chilean sea bass. there we go okay It was invented by a fish wholesaler named Leah Lance in 1977. He was looking for a name to make it attractive to in the American market.

Speaker: He considered Pacific sea bass, South American sea bass, but decided on Chilean. Chilean, yeah. Is that how you say that? Chilean? Chilean, that would go with.

Speaker: Chilean? Chilean, I think. yeah say Again, somebody somebody will let us know. What did you find out? In the UK, the approved commercial designations...

Speaker: are ice fish and tooth fish and this has created some confusion as a genuine ice fish caught in sub-antarctic waters does not resemble a tooth fish in any way. Interesting.

Speaker: So... make me meet me There you go. There you go. Now, I will let you know, sent an actor called Fred Stoler a message. He plays one of the waiters. He's the one who tells Monica he's got a name.

Speaker: It's Dragon. oh yeah and yeah he he wrote back and just thanked me for sending me lovely message i told him we this episode was coming up um and so it's always nice when somebody takes the time to write back he just said i really appreciate the message fred see what a solid name great name great what did he say I just said thank you for the message. I really appreciate you taking the time to send that and hearing it, which is great. He doesn't need to take any time to send anything back. So I just was, you know, every once in a while I go, who's on the next coming episodes? And I might send a message too, so we can maybe get on the radar. And sometimes like Mary Gallagher, they turn into just wonderful friends of the show. We adore. Sometimes they send a message back. Sometimes they never see him.

Speaker: um So that was nice to get a message. Monica gives her speech. That's right. and Joey doesn't play along because he suddenly wants to keep his job. He's got to pay rent. So he he comes up with another play. He's going to gain their trust.

Speaker: Yes. Try and turn this around. ah Phoebe is singing over in Central Park and Ross, he is passed out on the couch. He is exhausted from these dating games he is playing. Phoebe suggests that Ross breaks up with both the girls.

Speaker: She had toib a similar problem when she lived in Prague. There's so much we don't know. and it would be amazing to think what that backstory could have been.

Speaker: oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You know, they did like the spinoff, but they could do like young Phoebe or something and it could just be awesome.

Speaker: That could be your million dollar i idea. I think you need to claim the rights to that. Copyright. Float out to NBC. You heard it here first. Young Phoebe. Yeah. That would actually be a good discussion to have if we were going to have a young somebody, one of the six, which show would be the best.

Speaker: I think it would be Phoebe. I i think she's going to have the most colorful childhood. but For sure. But you could have young Joey with all his sisters and stuff. You could come up with some really ridiculous things. I think Chandler's would be kind of dark and sad. Yeah. But lots would have Chandler. Chandler. Would you like some more turkey, Mr. Chandler? Yes. And then, ah and what? And they have Monica and Ross.

Speaker: And that would be cute. Yeah, the Gellers. That could be cute. The Gellers as a whole would be cute. Rachel, not so much, I don't think. I'm not interested in seeing that. I would be on board, yeah. Young Phoebe or the Gellers, I think, would be two solid television shows.

Speaker: I agree. agree. We go to the boys' apartment. I swear just random sports equipment seems to show up from time to time like a mountain bike. And then Chandler now has a golf club. He's practicing his swing.

Speaker: ah What? What was he hitting? What was that blue thing on the floor? Not sure. I looked at it twice. Couldn't quite tell. Okay. I didn't know. And I was... And I love the fact that the only reason it's set up for him to do this is to lose the club over his shoulder when Rachel slams the door. yeah um Patrick's ended things with her because Chandler told him she's interested, she wants a serious relationship, which he owns because he thinks he's doing the right thing, but he has now scared um scared him off. He doesn't want to be with Rachel. And...

Speaker: Rachel says you shouldn't. Oh, go ahead. Go ahead. no Okay. So it made me laugh whenever she was like, you idiot. I'm sure you're right. But why? He's just trying to do the right thing. but Yeah. I'm sure you're right. But why?

Speaker: Yeah. He's owning it. Like it's all very innocent and genuine, isn't it? He's just trying to do the right thing. um we go on to the train ross has fallen asleep on the train he misses the stop in poughkeepsie we see for a split second this lady he's been seeing knocking on the glass um but he is he is off a lot farther than poughkeepsie as we will come to find it really pretty yeah she reminded me of somebody i couldn't quite remember this

Speaker: yeah Yeah, yeah. I thought so too. I was like, oh, she is really pretty. Yeah. We go to Alessandro. Monica needs swordfish and people are ignoring her. And then um she gets shut in the freezer.

Speaker: She thinks she's locked in there, but she's not. They just closed the door. um She gets covered in marinara sauce, which I'm choosing to believe it is a throwback to, was it last week when she shows the boss of Alessandro's how to make it so it's her own sauce. Oh.

Speaker: a Ah, that's smart. Yeah. i I didn't think about that. I choose to believe there's some sort of an irony or something that she was making in her kitchen and and it pours on ah in this in the restaurant.

Speaker: um She gets upset and then Joey does stand up to her and says that he has a problem with what she said earlier. like he yeah The other day. That's right. I have a problem. Yeah. And she ends up firing him on the spot. And yeah, so regaining or just gaining some authority in that kitchen.

Speaker: um Ross has ended up in Montreal. The lady next to him starts flirting. And it turns out she lives in Nova Scotia. I had so many issues with this statement. I had to get my extra nerdy nerd hat on and look this up.

Speaker: Because she says it's a two-hour ferry ride to Nova Scotia. Now, Montreal yeah has has a river that runs through it, but it is landlocked other than a river. There are no commercial ferries at all.

Speaker: She says two hours on a ferry. It's a three-and-a-half-hour flight. You can get a train. It takes 23 hours. And this is just a Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Speaker: If you're driving, it's about 800 miles. So that would put this boat going 400 miles an hour to Nova Scotia. Like, why did they say Nova Scotia?

Speaker: When somewhere completely unrealistic, maybe just because it sounds at the edge of Canada, which it is. It just, in no world could it take two hours or could you go on a ferry?

Speaker: hey Yeah, just one of those things that I was like, that's, yeah, just not. Just bugged me. Don't know why, but it did. Apparently i have an issue with it bigger than I realized, because i' I was really quite, there's no way that's possible.

Speaker: Yeah, that is ridiculous. Yeah. Yeah. Writers could have come up with somewhere else, but I'm nitpicking. um We go back to Alessandro's, I think for the last time. And Joey's talking about his lean, lean, lean Christmas. At the dragon house. At the dragon house.

Speaker: And he kind of oversells it a touch. Monica has to calm him down and and shuffles him out. um And we finish this back in the beautifully decorated Central Park. And Phoebe's singing her new Christmas song.

Speaker: Can't find anything to rhyme with Rachel or Chandler, it seems. And just has to mumble her way through it. Yeah, she does.

Speaker: Yes. That's whenever she says the, um, it's all Santa Claus. He said hello to Ross. Yes. And please tell Joey Christmas will be snowy. Joey's face. Yes.

Speaker: andant Rachel and Chandler and Lord it's so good it's so good why there isn't an album of all the Phoebe songs out there I will never know there i will never know the world may never know it may never know there you go alright well let's move into on to our Gunther Central Park who are you going to go for this week joey joey yeah yeah talk to me about joey but i think i know why yeah well because he um he put himself out there to like get fired in front of everybody to be the stooge to be the fall guy and like what a nice friend and it was just really sweet and i he's so funny and dumb and like you know And then that one part in the coffee house, whenever he's like walking in and then he's like, oh, it's so funny. Like, so I just really enjoyed him.

Speaker: as As did i And he, i was going between Joey and my actual pick. They were far and away at the top two. I went with Chandler, just quite a lot of one-liners of his that i really like. I like it what he tried to do for Rachel.

Speaker: um But just, yeah yeah, so many of his lines i found really, really funny. okay what opposite I also want to go ahead because we touched on this a little bit last week.

Speaker: um But ah Monica, I kind of like because we've seen her. I feel like we've seen her transformation now. like and We were starting to see it you know like where she was feeling confident and making the you know where she was like, no, like your sauce sucks. Watch me do mine. And, you know, ah her confidence is building. And then we watch her like trying to talk to the, to be b b b b be here you know, and then whenever she fires Joey, and then as soon as she's done with that, and then I think I'm changing my mind as I'm talking through this. I don't know. I want to give her an honorable mention, but, um,

Speaker: But then she, you know, and then she's just like, and you, bu but bu but bute and you go get a haircut. And yes, you know what I mean? But she like, I think we watched that transformation happen like in in real time of a sitcom in that scene.

Speaker: That's a very good point. You know, ready to quit and being whiny and everything else to having that confidence to, you be in control of her space and and take charge.

Speaker: You're absolutely right. Like the head chef should. Yep. We did not give her enough credit. I did not give her enough credit in that review. You're right, because she easily could have quit. She could have walked out.

Speaker: yes Yes. She chose to stay and fight. And we had Phoebe, who did a great job making a song that everybody sings all the time.

Speaker: Right. you know Yeah, and Ross was stuck on a train. so Yeah. yeah Yeah, a good good episode. How are we going to measure this episode, speaking of it being a good episode?

Speaker: We are going to, with Phoebe's CDs. As we we are manifesting Phoebe's CDs, her best-selling ones. Yeah, I like it. Let's do Phoebe's Christmas album.

Speaker: Oh, yes. Yeah. Yes. A big fan. All right. Well, how many CDs are you going to give this episode? I am giving her eight. Oh, well, not her, but this episode.

Speaker: Yeah. Eight. Eight Phoebe CDs. you know and then I think I'm going with eight too. I was originally thinking sometimes when I watch it, I kind of go you know very briefly my head, I think that's probably this or probably that. But sometimes when we talk it through, I realize i actually enjoyed it more. So I'm going to definitely go with eight solid CDs as well.

Speaker: Yeah, good, good episode. Absolutely. All right, next week, it is the one with Phoebe's uterus. It's the one with Frank a frank and Alice. are Back, back, back.

Speaker: That's crazy. Yep. That's crazy. So I'm excited to see, again, like i often say, and I think you're the same, I can kind of remember the main story, but not the other side stories. So looking forward to revisiting the one with Phoebe's uterus.

Speaker: All right. Thanks, Al. Awesome. Well, thank you so much. And as always, thank you, everybody out there, for listening to the Purple Door podcast.
