Anime Finales: Vinland Saga Focus

00:01:10
Speaker
So as we are entering our summer season, we want to venture back and talk about two of our favorite finales or two of our favorite shows that had finales last season. Vinland Saga season two and Demon Slayer season three, the swordsmith arc. So Alex, come on. What'd you guys think?
00:01:31
Speaker
of Vinland Saga season two. Well, I guess I'll go ahead and start. I did not expect Vinland Saga to go this way to have this turn. It's very
00:01:48
Speaker
different. I feel like it's just pure philosophy. Now, it's so much different than the tone of the season one finale, that it almost doesn't always feel like you're watching the same show. I can't say that I thought that it was bad, because it wasn't bad. It's just
00:02:12
Speaker
nowhere near what I was expecting or really I guess the whole season has been building to this to this and I haven't seen usually redemption arcs and you know and character growth looks different than what Vinland Saga has done and take the direction that they went in this year this season so yeah like I was really surprised I can't say that I didn't like it but I also
00:02:42
Speaker
was not as entertained, I would say, overall, this season and in the finale. But there were some moments where I was pretty moved. That's real. I respect that. I can agree with that. What about you, Kwon? Vinland Saga's finale was, Vinland Saga this whole season was a slow burn, a very slow burn.
00:03:05
Speaker
So it took me, I don't know, it took me a lot to kind of stay on the boat, to be honest with you. Yes. I got into it. What'd you say, Alex? No, I just agree. Yes, it definitely was. I caught myself being able to go weeks without watching it and not caring. Yeah.
00:03:23
Speaker
And when the first season came out, I was literally fiending for my next episode of the show. It was that good. It was that much action. It was gritty. It was everything I could have hoped for. And this one is just all philosophical. I get that he's growing up. And I totally agree with that. It is 100% philosophical. I get that he's growing up and trying to be like his dad. However, quite frankly, that doesn't make for much entertaining television. And that's what we watch anime for. So speed that shit up, please.
00:03:57
Speaker
Yeah, because like we got like three or four instances in like at like random late episodes in the season that were like good. Like when Thor kill or Thor boy, there's so many Thor's this gets complicated. That was the right one Thor

Philosophy vs. Entertainment in Anime

00:04:13
Speaker
Gill.
00:04:13
Speaker
Yeah, when Thorgyll attacked the king, and just like when Thorgyll attacked the king, there was one other fight. Oh, when Thorfinn and Snake fought, we got two half scenes of some actual violence in a show that baited us the first season with absolute violence. So I'm just saying, yeah, I think y'all should put this shit back on its course and let it go.
00:04:42
Speaker
I agree though, because you're right. Most of the reason that I had loyalty to continue was on the merit of the first season.
00:04:49
Speaker
So like I was thoroughly entertained the first season. I figured this one would pick back up and would kind of take it that way. It's again, it's not that it's theoretically bad, but you make a really good point. It was just not entertaining. And that's not why you go and watch anime for the most part. Like you want to be thrilled. And there's a way to do, you know, entertaining slice of life kinds of moments or, you know, lower stakes or maybe, I mean, technically the stakes were high, but I don't know. Like it just wasn't as overall engaging.
00:05:20
Speaker
And there's only so many times you can watch a brother have nightmares before you're like, all right, let's speed this up. Seriously. Let's recap this second season, actually. We watched this nigga farm. We watched him sleep on hay. We watched two fight scenes, and the rest was crying. Where'd they do that at?
00:05:53
Speaker
They planted some seeds, they got those seeds dug up. They had to replant some seeds, got a little, slept on some hay, had a few nightmares here and there, went to this philosophical hell and met his former buddy, Asselen.
00:06:14
Speaker
I don't know. You're right. I mean, to wrap it up, I will say that while I'm not personally pleased with the slow pace of the show, I'm sure a lot of people enjoyed it and appreciate it. And the last couple of episodes were nice and super heartwarming. And it was all cute and stuff. He got to see his family again and stuff like that. So I think that was well deserved. Could they have done it in 12 episodes? Probably.
00:06:43
Speaker
Um, yeah, that's, that's, that's, that's all I got for Vending Saga. It ended on a very nice note, but, uh, bring back the killing, please. Oh my gosh. But I will say, if they did it in 12 episodes, I will say if they did it in 12 episodes, I don't think it would have felt earned Thorfinn's transformation. I don't know. This nigga did a lot of crying, like,
00:07:10
Speaker
That is true, but I would not have bought him going from the savagery that he was the first season to like, this pacifist, I mean, their pseudo Jesus looking figure in this episode. Black, first of all, Alex. Oh, hey, I said pseudo.
00:07:29
Speaker
No, no, no. Yeah, I agree with everything you guys said. I think the thing that was toughest for me is if it wasn't like what Alex said, basically, which was if it wasn't me relying on the merit of the first season, I would have quit.

Personal Anime Viewing Rules

00:07:42
Speaker
Yeah. Whenever I watch any anime like Kwon and I like Kwon knows my rules like I give it seven episodes tops and then I'm out and seven is like pushing it. Usually I don't even reach seven. I like if I don't mind feeling it after the fourth episode, I'll let it rock. There was only one only one anime I could think of that I lasted longer than that for and that was that time I was reincarnated as a slime. And yeah, but so yeah, when I think of
00:08:08
Speaker
Vinland Saga season two, I'm just like, it wasn't until like episode 11 that we kind of saw Thor Gill slice up that man's hand to fight his brother, to save his brother. And I was like, all right, that was a nice, but that doesn't rectify the previous 10 episodes I watched that were sucky. I will say that when I was describing my qualms with Vinland Saga season two, specifically the end, one of my friends called me out on it.
00:08:35
Speaker
He remembered, I'm not sure if I said this here, but I remember saying it to I think each one of you guys like separately, but Mob Psycho season three had like one of my favorite endings to an anime ever because it was like actually a happy ending, even though like he had like went through life stuff.
00:08:50
Speaker
And when I mentioned I didn't like how Vinland Saga season 2 went, my friend was like, wasn't a happy ending? And I was like, yeah, it was. He was like, so shouldn't you be happy? And I was like, I appreciate you trying to call me out on this. But that's not what I look for Vinland Saga for. I don't look there to be in my feelings and be happy. I want to see some blood and gore. I want to see this man.
00:09:10
Speaker
get back whatever was lost, like he lost time with his family. I don't think he I don't think it was realistic for him to all of a sudden become like this super pacifist. And even like the kind of what Alex was saying to like this whole, like philosophical stance. I think that's what they were going at when the Kings guard like hit him 100 times and all of a sudden felt his knees because he was too tired. Like, realistically speaking, after like the 30th blow, he probably would have just cut that man's head off.
00:09:38
Speaker
I shouldn't have got that far. There's no honor to let him survive that, right? So it was kind of weird. They were trying to make a whole message that I don't think many people wanted. And everybody stayed until the evening to watch him get punched. Which is crazy. And then you lose your soldiers because all of a sudden your soldiers are like, oh, why isn't this guy on our side? And now they don't respect the guy that's doing the punching. Yeah, the bear killer.
00:10:08
Speaker
There's no way you get punched. And then at the end, his sister hits him one time and he drops. I refuse to believe you took a hundred punches. And I know in the show, they talked about how he was like kind of dodging some of the force of the punches. However,
00:10:26
Speaker
This nigga's name is Bear Killer, okay? I mean, emphasis on the bear. Like, if this motherfucker can kill a bear, then nine times out of ten, he could probably kill your ass with a couple punches. A hundred? Stop pushing. Well, they did, they did spend a lot of time the first season, like, building the idea that the daughter, like, Thor's a sister, or Thor kills sister, is really strong. So, I guess they're just trying to drive that home, that she just got stronger in the time apart.
00:10:55
Speaker
Oh, which I get, but aren't they all like, was it John Vikings? How do you say it? I think the John Vikings are the name of that special unit with the dude that got the fake Wolverine cut. Yeah. I think that's just the name of that particular unit of soldiers. I thought they would have Marines or anything. You mean the dude with the box head? Yeah. Yeah. A guy from Street Fighter. Yeah, he definitely roasted this dude. He's the one who's supposed to be, looks like he should be in the Lego show.
00:11:26
Speaker
Hey, Lego Batman is one of my favorite movies of all time. Just go easy on Legos, please. I can't even argue with that. Also, I just need to make a small comment about Emerson's rule of sevens. If I followed that rule, I would not have made it through one piece. I'm sorry, but like sevens. There's no way on this God's green earth that I could have gone through.
00:11:53
Speaker
Wow. Okay. So like 7000 rule for one piece.

Demon Slayer Season Analysis

00:11:57
Speaker
I agree. 100% agree. I mean, look, honestly, one piece, the only reason I like held on so so tightly to one piece is because everyone kept saying Marine Ford is like one of the greatest arcs of all time. And I wanted to get there. It just sucked that it was like 400 episodes in like 450 episodes in some old crap. It was good. It was very, very good. Excellent writing.
00:12:20
Speaker
I still think Doflamingo's arc was better. Oh, I agree. I do think... I'm in the Dofi arc right now. You can't wait to hear your feedback about that. You're moving. We should have special episodes when Alex just gives us her breakdown of the arc. I'm still with that. Okay, so I think there's a consensus that Vinland Saga let us down, but how do we feel about Demon Slayer's finale?
00:12:49
Speaker
Before we move on from business saga, I do want to give an honorable mention though. It's it was a it was beautiful Yeah, the art and animation was was stunning. I second so I Will give them their credit there that just because the the action tampered down doesn't mean that they like, you know sit their budget elsewhere Not in folks in map is still not sleeping I can guarantee that No, absolutely not a single not a single night. I
00:13:19
Speaker
Um. You want to jump into Demon Slayer, Emerson? You want me to leave? I can leave with Demon Slayer. I got a lot of thoughts on Demon Slayer. Okay. Oh, please, please let me. All right. So first I need you guys to, before I go on my rant, I don't want to be embarrassed. I want you guys to, to clarify something on me before I begin, clarify something for me before I begin. When Tundra was in the swordsmith village.
00:13:49
Speaker
Wasn't he still injured? Wasn't he still not cleared for combat? Yeah, my man was definitely not 100%. I think he was cleared. Well, maybe he wasn't cleared for combat, but he was definitely injured. He was not 100%.
00:14:06
Speaker
Okay, so there's this anime arc, or theme, not an arc, a theme that a lot of shows do, where they let a character like fight somebody weakened, or they go in weakened, and you expect them to lose. So I expected Tanjiro to lose to the upper demons because
00:14:26
Speaker
He's injured. The fact that he end up, oh, spoiler, he wins, obviously, because it's him. And the fact that he wins threw me for such a loop because not only is this the second upper demon that he fights, he fights and survives his upper demon at less than 100% and he's unleashing new techniques. What does this say about this man when he's fully, like when he's 100%?
00:14:49
Speaker
Also, what does it say about how far he is ahead of Inosuke? And what's my boy's name? Zenitsu? Zenitsu. I forget his name. This is my favorite guy. Like, it's just so crazy how OP that they're making him. I'm not mad at it. It just threw me for a loop. Initially, I did think it was beautiful. Like, when it comes to animation, I don't think anybody's touching Demon Slayer. Oh, not at all. And yeah, it's like...
00:15:14
Speaker
it's a class of its own. And I'm caught up to One Piece. So like One Piece's new animation is also very fire, but nothing's touching, touching demon slayers. I thought that it was a really good story. I got I kind of got over
00:15:29
Speaker
the in the last episode, I'm not sure how close it followed the manga. But basically, when the demon kept changing its form, so I kind of got over that like, oh, he broke out and he ran away. And then all of a sudden, he was like inside another version of the same demon, whatever number it was.
00:15:49
Speaker
I kind of got over that part of them chasing. And I also forgot that Genya had the ability to eat demons and temporarily get their power. Because I was like, oh shit, this man is a demon. This nigga is a demon. Why is he fighting with them? Is there another Nezuko? And then he turned back to normal at the end. And I was like, oh, yeah, he just can adopt properties of demons. And then Nezuko. I have a question about her later, but I don't want to take up all the time. So please, you guys, chime in.
00:16:20
Speaker
Well, I guess I'll start, but I'll say, fuck that demon. That demon was the worst, least likable, most ridiculous demon of all time. They've made every other demon semi likable. This demon, everything about this demon, I just needed him to die. Every single thing about him. Like he was annoying. He was whiny. I hated all the tears. He's like the most pathetic demon that has ever graced
00:16:47
Speaker
the show. I could not get I literally could give fewer fucks about that guy. Just the absolute worst. And I was so glad to see him die.
00:16:59
Speaker
Um, I also kind of got annoyed, like by the fact that he kept changing forms, but I'm not going to lie though. There's that one moment where Tundra catches up to him and he turns around and grows several sizes and then tells him like shame on you and like grabs his neck. That actually had me, had me scared. I don't know if anybody else had that moment, but I definitely had, I was startled. Like, Oh my God, I didn't expect him to do that. So that was pretty, pretty dope.
00:17:28
Speaker
Yeah, my man Tanjiro has the endurance of a just ungodly endurance. I agree that it kind of lost me a little bit because his endurance didn't always, even in universe, his endurance feels uncanny. Like it doesn't feel correct. Especially, I mean, he's busting out like lightning move, like the lightning breathing. Like, ah, that was a hard sell. My guy has a broken ankle. Like. Exactly.
00:17:57
Speaker
Like, I don't, I mean, even if you envision all the muscle fibers in your leg, I just am not sure that that made sense. We are on one course. Yeah. And I have a lot of other thoughts, but I'm going to pass it to Kwon. I will second some of y'all's thoughts. Like, I did catch me off guard when he grew several sizes, like feet, pretty much. Like, that was very unexpected.
00:18:26
Speaker
I did get tired of the whining. Definitely not a fan of the whining. I will say that I like one of his transformations. When he turns into the short one with the wooden snakes, I think his name is Zoe Hockleton. He looked cool. He looked cool as shit to me.
00:18:45
Speaker
I do feel like there was a big disparity in power levels between him and the other upper moon that went to the village with him, the dude from the Gilco, from the vases. I feel like Muichiro soloed Gilco. I know he got his mark or whatever, but he soloed him. The only reason Muichiro took damage is because he was trying to save other people.
00:19:15
Speaker
And I feel like it took everybody to kill. I can't remember the, I can't remember the upper moon's actual name, but I keep saying Zohakleton. The loser? It took everybody to kill him. Arami or something like that? What is it? Is it like Arami? Arami. Look at that guy. I don't care what his name is. Stupid demon.
00:19:38
Speaker
The stupid demon. Yeah, let's go out. Yeah, the stupid demon. Fuck that guy. He was much stronger. And I kind of get tired of the whole cloning thing too. I feel like that's a bit played out. It worked well in the entertainment district with the brother and sister duo. But this nigga had four clones. You had to behead them all at one time like this.
00:20:02
Speaker
It's not Dark Souls, sir. Why do we have all of these classifications and extracurriculars that we have to kill this nigga? It's five people that they have to fight. They all have superpowers. Why must they all be beheaded at once? It just seemed like too much. And quite frankly, if I'm a five-headed monster, I'm going to just fly one of my heads away, which is kind of what they did here, which is why it took so long and was irritating. Because I got tired of watching them chase this little mouse around.
00:20:31
Speaker
Yeah. God, I hated him running around like that. That was just so, everything about him was just freaking ridiculous. Which I guess that means they did their job because we had such a visceral reaction to him. But I mean, I'm not going to lie though. I really, really, I think I liked last season better or not. I think I know. I definitely enjoyed the, um, what is it? The red light district? Is that what entertainment district? I really enjoyed that. That, um,
00:20:58
Speaker
arc better.

Demon Slayer: Character and Power Dynamics

00:21:00
Speaker
I thought it was just more fun and I really liked, I really loved the siblings, the sibling demons.
00:21:09
Speaker
I mean, I like Tengen too. That was my guy. Yeah, like what? He was actually a good person. I'm sorry. Yeah. But even before, even without that, he was just hella intimidating. And the scythes were just, I mean, his Blood Demon art was so cool to be animated. And the scenes, the visuals that we got in that last arc between his scythe Blood Demon arc and
00:21:33
Speaker
the Tanjiro using his sword, the breath styles. Oh, it was literally like poetry in motion. It was beautiful. So like this was still pretty like you could tell they did they did their job, but I just wasn't as dazzled by the by either the love Hashira's abilities and it was still pretty. It was pretty but like I didn't she was fighting like
00:21:56
Speaker
wood. Like, I don't know, it wasn't as just wasn't as you were taking that wood. It wasn't Oh my god, it just wasn't as bright and vibrant as the other as as other kinds of techniques. So it didn't I feel like it kind of wasn't as wasn't as visually stunning to look at not because it wasn't wasn't well animated because it was. But I don't know, I might be alone on that one.
00:22:20
Speaker
Do we know the power scaling of the Hashiras? Cause I thought it was dope that the missed Hashiras soloed that one upper moon, but the love Hashiras, I thought she was cool. I thought she was impressive until like the last scene where she was like crying cause she thought she was about to die. Yeah. They don't know how to write women as well. I don't think. Yeah. All right. So, oh, Quan, you about to say something?
00:22:46
Speaker
Not really. Uh, maybe. So, the only, like, the love, Hashira, she was cool. I do agree with Alex that the entertainment district was more visually stunning between, like, Tingan's bombs, the blood demon arts of both of the two.
00:23:03
Speaker
And just the level of damage they did in the entertainment district, too. It gave demon to me. This one was in the woods, less, I don't know, more rural, which is cool, but definitely not as visually stunning for sure. And the love usher, she was cool.
00:23:24
Speaker
The only thing I really like about her is just her weird sword, to be honest. Because it's an actual weapon, and I didn't even know it was a thing. I learned about it from the show and ended up Googling it. But otherwise, it's like an actual sword. Huh? Is it a real sword? Yeah, it's like it's based on a real weapon, actually. That's crazy. I didn't know that. That is crazy. What's the name of this thing?
00:23:50
Speaker
You a damn historian out here, Kawan. Nah, I just get, it's called the Urumi. That's what the name of the sword is. Urumi. Yeah, and so according to, my English teacher would hate this, but Wikipedia, the Urumi is a sword with a flexible whip-like blade originating in modern day Kerala in the Indian subcontinent. It is thought to have existed from as early as the Sangam period. I don't know when that is.
00:24:19
Speaker
It is treated as a steel whip and therefore requires prior knowledge of that weapon as well as the sword, which I thought was kind of cool. It's like a multi-discipline weapon that you kind of need. It's like a specific level of expertise. But you remember when Spike TV had the ultimate warrior show where you had different people fight from different time periods and they had different weapons? This would be a great weapon for that show. That's crazy. I thought it looked like a whip the way she used it.
00:24:47
Speaker
I didn't know it was a real thing because apparently you have to learn how to use a whip and then you learn how to use this. Otherwise you're going to cut your shit off.
00:24:57
Speaker
I mean, that makes sense. I mean, it was really cool how she used it. And I also just love how each of the different sword styles have different like have different movements that are associated with each each one. Like they take the time to make them they don't all they all look distinct, you know, kind of like what they used to do for Avatar Glass Airbender, how each of the different
00:25:18
Speaker
elements, elemental bending had different movements tied to it. I feel like they do a really good job making her sword style just unique and very different. I didn't even think of that. That's a good point.
00:25:34
Speaker
Yeah, but I think I'm kind of having this moment where I'm realizing part of what I didn't love. So I like the pacing of Demon Slayer a little bit better too than Vinland Saga because Vinland Saga had all these lulls and lags in the center. But I think what they also did in Vinland Saga is they spent so much time like on characters that just really didn't do anything.
00:25:58
Speaker
And I think maybe this arc, I mean, again, I think I might be standing alone on this one, but in Demon Slayer, like I think we spent a lot of time character building those two Hashira, but like, at least with the love, the love Hashira, I wasn't, it just like, I guess they tried to build it up to something that I don't think ever, it was never that deep. It was never that substantial.
00:26:25
Speaker
It just didn't have the same impact, especially right next to the miss Hashira who had like a real, I mean, his background was just a lot more meaty. So it made the other one, it made the love Hashira's background just kind of go, just kind of like, I don't know, just sub-par. Hey, she had a plight too, man. She wanted to get married. She didn't feel like she fit in society because she was stronger than everyone else. And her hair was pink.
00:26:52
Speaker
And because her hair was pink, okay, that I can't really justify. She did dye it black. Bring that ass to America and see what happens. She'd be married in two seconds. You kidding me? I'm not sympathizing with this woman's situation. You got this thing for gargantuan woman. She fine as fuck. I'm not feeling bad for her. The way that people fiend over the, what is it? The she-hulk? She would have...
00:27:16
Speaker
When She Hope was talking with Megan Thee Stallion, I said, I think I need an Amazonian. Listen. Yeah, I think it was a bad contrast. It just made her stuff seem kind of just not as cool. And even though her fighting was cool, at the end, like Kewan said, when she just sits there and is like, when she was just like, oh, I guess I'm just going to give up now. What was that?
00:27:46
Speaker
It's not fitting up a Hasura at all. At all. Yeah, no, that kind of blew me a bit. Okay, one thing that did bother me that is tangentially related, but not really. Can we talk about Nezuko? Because I'm confused as to whether she leveled up and that is what made her be able to withstand the sun or she could have withstand the sun the whole time, we just never knew it. I think she leveled up to withstand the sun.
00:28:15
Speaker
So then, does that mean that none of the other upper moons ever leveled up to that point? Since they all, all the other ones, at least to the point that we've seen.
00:28:25
Speaker
I see where you're going and I'm walking back a little bit. I think that there's a big difference because Nezuko didn't actually consume human ever. I'm assuming that is the difference because her progress has been crazy from the beginning, to be honest. Like even her strength when she was fighting the girl with the, was it the Tama balls in the beginning and like the very first season when they were at the doctor's house, you know what I'm talking about?
00:28:53
Speaker
Yeah, she broke her foot the first kick, and then the second kick, she kicked it back. Yeah, so her progress has been quite ridiculous from start to finish. So I mean, against that, that might be one of the few things that might make sense in terms of consistency, because she has consistently leveled up with every enemy that they've faced.
00:29:13
Speaker
Uh, so yeah, I think, I don't know, it kind of makes sense. I don't ask too many questions. I agree. I think I actually agree with you. And the other thing to think about that helps her, that helps her a lot, I think is her bloodline. Like she's still got the same, you know, sun breathing, sun, you know, this, she's a descendant of the, of
00:29:36
Speaker
of, uh, I forgot what they're called, but I know that they're the people who inherited the sun technique and the Himu Kagi Kagura, something like that. Yeah, that. And so she's still a daughter of, of that. She's so, I think her bloodline also contributes to her, her ability to conquer the sun and the fact that she never ate people. So nothing corrupted her.
00:30:01
Speaker
Okay. And then since we know that this man Tanjiro can possess or possesses sun breathing to an extent, is that, is that the reason why he can do Zenitsu's thunder breathing or thunder breathing at all? Yes, because it's the original breath style. So I don't, I'm, I'm trying, I'm confused. I'm like, then why did he try any other breathing type?

Breathing Styles and Tanjiro's Principles

00:30:25
Speaker
Well, he knows what he knows water breathing. So I feel like that was the biggest hint.
00:30:32
Speaker
That's fair. I mean he know especially entertainment district he did he did use the Hino Kami Kager and water breathing at the same time That's why I guess it's like where when does it stop? How many breathing styles is he gonna use? He probably could use all of them It's just he's probably just more suited to certain kinds because it's a whole different tech. It's a whole different like technique because like especially with him having like the hilt for
00:31:00
Speaker
for the fire Hasura, I'm like, is he going to use the fire one? What's going on here? What we doing? He should know some damn fire, some fire style right now. Exactly. He uses more fire than water anyway. I'm telling you, OK? And I don't understand the difference between fire breathing and the Hino Kami Kagura, which boggles my mind because they're both fired. Like the fire in the sun. Yeah. I don't know.
00:31:30
Speaker
It looked the same. This is what happens when you get into the weeds instead of just like watching the show and appreciating it for what it is. I mean, sometimes shit don't make sense. It don't make sense sometimes, damn it. No, but I didn't think it was a fire. I thought like just sitting there and watching it for what it was like from a cinematic perspective, it was beautifully shot in a beautiful, beautiful episode.
00:31:55
Speaker
Like the little things that bothered me did not take away from it. And I do appreciate that they kind of went back to certain things that people do find, I don't want to say tractor, tractor is not the word, but like people like about Tundra. Like I like Tundra, the fact that Tundra was like so principled and like righteous and whatnot. So the fact that he actually chose to go save the villagers over his sister,
00:32:20
Speaker
No, he didn't. He was like debating and then she kicked him. He didn't. He didn't pick it. She made him pick. Yeah, but he was debating it and that's what matters. Alex. No, I agree with Alex. He could have ran back to her. He literally could have ran back to her after she kicked him. Well, she was already melting in his head. She was breaking out her cocoon of skin.
00:32:42
Speaker
Yeah, I do have, no, I agree though. I like Tanjiro for his principles. I feel like he is one of the most righteous of all the characters of all the Shounen, especially in the market where we have characters whose motivation is boobs.
00:32:56
Speaker
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. Chainsaw Man is a phenomenal series. It sure is. I agree. I love Denji. But I will say, I do want to talk a little bit more about Nezuko. What is going on with her demeanor? I don't really understand why she is so childlike in her personality. I would like to talk a little bit about that because she's older than Tanjiro, and I don't think she was anything like that before she
00:33:25
Speaker
I didn't know she was older than Tundra. Yeah, I think that's her old thing that I thought. I don't know. But I thought that was the older sister. Oh, that's crazy. That's a difference. I mean, even if she wasn't the older sister, at some point, she becomes an adult, like titties and all. Like, we. Titties and all. Titties and all. No, no, no. I'm serious. Because Emerson and I had a conversation about this show called Blue Show.
00:33:53
Speaker
And it's weird because, like, the show, Mushoku Tensei is a show, it's an isekai, and this dude who's like 30 or 40 years old gets reincarnated as a kid, and he's a little perv, and it's weird because you know this motherfucker's an adult. It's weird to watch Nezuko turn into an adult and then make baby sounds and cry like a child. That shit's off-putting. Like, you have to pick one. I agree with you, for sure.
00:34:23
Speaker
Oh, I just looked it up, so she's not. She is younger than him by a year. They're about the same age, but... A year? Yeah, I'm looking it up, too. It says a year. I don't know about y'all, but I don't feel like she should be that behind in the Education Olympics. Well, I mean, her brain is probably dead because she's a demon. Or... But the others haven't... The ones that eat people, they retain their sense of self.
00:34:51
Speaker
And like, but they're eating people. But they're eating people. Maybe that's why. She hasn't had a meal in three years. She hasn't. What has she eaten? We don't know. Not a dang thing. It seems like she needs. Yeah, she slept for what? The first two years of the training that Tanjiro went through. Oh, yeah, yeah, damn near.
00:35:14
Speaker
But I guess I just don't know why she acts so childlike. I still don't think it makes sense. I get like, I think they alluded to the fact that she was that she must be prioritizing, you know, other her other other functions. And that's why she's not regained her consciousness. But I don't I don't know. That's not enough for me. Like, I don't get it. I never I don't really get it.
00:35:42
Speaker
Yeah, I don't like I thought honestly, I thought it was kind of weird that she was talking at the end, but she just kept saying yo, God, I prefer her with a little bit in her mouth. Like it was just odd. But I'm glad that she was alive. But I don't know. I agree. I definitely thought that was a little jarring. I rather her not say anything like she could have like, begin a mouth something and then it cuts the black now would have been happier.
00:36:12
Speaker
Yeah. Or she could have said it once, but they had her talking a lot. Attempting to talk. Yeah. All right. So where do you see it going from here? Well, I guess, have you read the manga, Alex? Yeah, I, I have. So I kind of know where it goes here from here. So I'm going to sit this out. Oh man. I haven't read the manga. I should read the manga then. Well, where do you think it's going?
00:36:43
Speaker
I don't know. I guess I'm not sure if they're going to pull a My Hero and then like kind of say like the next season is the final season or if they're going to try to milk it for a couple more. I think they definitely can milk it for more, but it's also probably really expensive for them to given the animation quality.
00:37:02
Speaker
I think you have, for me, I would like to see what happened to the other. It's almost like what they did in Hunter x Hunter. Memoine Carapica went and he did his own thing for a season. And then you, then we got the seed going and Killua will come back afterwards. And then they all link up together. Kind of like that. I would like to see what happens to Nosuke and Zenitsu during everything that happened in the swordsmith.
00:37:27
Speaker
village. And that can definitely have to be the full season that can be like a couple episodes of the next season. And then they all get together. And then they fight. I guess maybe the anywhere from the three to the is is there a one demon or is one
00:37:45
Speaker
Muzon is one or not? No, no, no, there's a one and then and Muzon. Gotcha. So like then they fight whatever, because I think at this point, it's even though each one of the demons have different abilities, seeing them fight anything lower than the three doesn't make sense since they just beat the four and five. That's true.
00:38:05
Speaker
I think it's OK. I'm only saying this from the perspective from this perspective, because I know what's about to happen. There's one person that makes sense who isn't in that group to fight. And I think he's a lower number. I'm almost certain he is. Is he is it like a revenge kill for him doing something to someone's family? It's not Tanjiro specific.
00:38:34
Speaker
No, I mean, it could be anybody. Okay. Yes. Gotcha. There's two characters that have beef. Like beef. And those are the two like one of those characters is is is a is a demon for sure.
00:38:56
Speaker
So I think you might, that kind of cuts against what you were saying about the whole three, four, five, but it makes sense once you get into it, I think. I think especially learning, that does, I mean, I think that's definitely a valid way of going to, I mean, obviously that's the way it goes, but a valid route to go to just given that, I forgot what's his name, but the home border became a Hashira.
00:39:23
Speaker
And his brother is Genz's brother, Genyo's brother. Oh, the Wind Hoshua. The Wind Hoshua, yeah.

Upcoming Anime Anticipations

00:39:32
Speaker
Whoever turned his mom into a demon, I can see them wanting to fight. I do think that there are battles that make sense, but for me as a viewer, all I care about is
00:39:45
Speaker
All right, so what does the one, two, and three look like? Well, we already saw the three. So really, what does the one, two look like? And I imagine there's a crazy power gap, because at this point, we've seen, like, we watched in season one, them struggle against a lower moon. To them, they didn't easily defeat, like, the five or four, whichever one they were fighting. I want to say five. No, they're definitely fighting four. But they still defeated him. So like, it's kind of weird.
00:40:14
Speaker
for me seeing them fight anything less than because they're going to have confidence. But then Muzan also could just make somebody he can also just like juice up anybody else and make them stronger than what everybody else was, you know. I think that Demon Slayer is good in that like it's like Jujutsu Kaisen like even like under the under the correct conditions, anybody can get it.
00:40:35
Speaker
I think there's definitely a healthy amount of plot armor, for sure. But I think the Demon Slayer is just like Jujutsu Kaisen in that manner. Yeah, there's definitely matchups. Yeah, for sure. All right. Well, now I'm excited. And speaking of things I'm excited about, I'm also excited about Jujutsu Kaisen, which just dropped this first episode. So what are you guys expecting from this season two?
00:41:07
Speaker
Greatness. Yeah, greatness. I was legit. Jujutsu Kaizo was one of my favorites. Actually, it was my favorite. I thought it could not be topped until I watched Chainsaw Man and I was like, oof, that gave it a run for the money. But I'm excited. I'm definitely excited. I love the energy that I did watch the first episode. I love the energy of our boy Gojo and
00:41:32
Speaker
got the other guy's name, but I love their dynamic. It's so good. Oh, yeah, they're fun. I love it. I'm loving it. But Gojo is such a fucking villain. And I forgot, like, like him just like in the first episode talking about how why should we care about the week? Which is crazy, given like how we see him now, which is like kind of the same mentality, but he's willing to still help a little bit.
00:41:59
Speaker
Yeah, he really stepped to him because he's so strong. And that infinity was like always OP, which is also crazy.
00:42:11
Speaker
What else is starting? Oh, Bleach. How are we feeling about Bleach? I know Kawan already saw the episode. I did. Bleach is, Bleach is like, I mean, this is, it's the first episode, right? So there's not much to report, to be honest. Like it's like, you know, training montages, people healing up, getting ready for the next fight. This is all the like, just setting the tone.
00:42:35
Speaker
So, I mean, I'm excited, but if y'all didn't see the first episode yet, y'all not really missing too much. Especially if you've read the manga, which I have, because it was such a long gap. So you really not missing anything at all. The animation is still beautiful though. I've been on the fence about how I should feel about it since the first Thousand Year Blood War Art came around, because it's very different from how Bleach used to look. But I do really like it.
00:43:06
Speaker
Do you, so you said you read the manga so you already know what's gonna happen? So is it gonna be another season to this? Or are they gonna, you think they're gonna try to finish it out? The whole like arc in this season, this part two.
00:43:18
Speaker
I would hope. I don't know the schedule for the episodes. Because if you remember, Attack on Titan was supposed to be a two-part finale, and now that shit's seven parts. Who knows? Who actually knows what type of liberties these people are going to take? I think it can be finished up fairly shortly, especially though there's really only one big battle left to be had.
00:43:44
Speaker
Either the Quincy's are gonna, you know, clean house or the Soul Reapers are. But I mean, it's time for somebody to get the broom, you know? It's just, I think it'll be over soon. That's what's up. That's what's up. Yeah, I'm looking for it. I mean, I thought that I agree with you the animation style.
00:44:10
Speaker
was so different, but I loved it because it's so updated and it kind of makes me want to see other older anime do the updated look. I don't think it works for everyone. I'm not sure if you guys ever watched Trigun, but the new Trigun, Stampede, I didn't really like the way the updated animation style looked on it. So it kind of made me not watch it fully, but what they did with Bleach was very clean, man.
00:44:33
Speaker
Bleach was clear, especially that scene where Byakuya is all poked up, and Itchy goes just standing over his body, and the rain isn't even getting on my boy. Oh, my goodness. Oh. He was steaming so much, he was evaporating the rain before he could touch him. That was probably one of the coolest scenes I think I've ever seen.
00:44:54
Speaker
Honestly, yes, yes. But that scene for me, yes, but that's my second favorite scene in that whole series, that whole part one. My first is when Ichiko's mom hit the bang on that hollow that bit her. Oh, yeah. And she saved his dad and she's like, ah, gotcha, bang. No, I got to give, I like Kawan's favorite.
00:45:20
Speaker
You were never on my side. Hey, what can I say? I like the fact that Biakoya gets humble, and he feels humble enough to ask Ichigo for help. Because remember, these two have worked together for some time. But make no mistake, Biakoya has a strong resentment for Ichigo, since the beginning of their relationship. Like, Biakoya was going to kill Rukia, and Ichigo stopped that shit, and they fought then. And it's been up ever since.
00:45:50
Speaker
So it was just so many different things happening at that one time. And it was beautifully animated. So there's not much not to like about it. It's crazy. You're spot on. You're spot on. I'm trying to think, what other anime are coming out this season that would be fun to watch?
00:46:12
Speaker
I mean, were we supposed to get another episode or another season of spy X family? Can't remember. Yeah, we do. But I think they come out in the fall. It comes out in the fall. Okay. About solo leveling. I've heard so much. I've heard that's a lot of hype around it, man. It better be good. I heard the animation for it is going to be insane.
00:46:37
Speaker
Did they get, who did they get to animate it? Is it also like you foldable? Let's see. I'm gonna Google it real quick. Nope, that is the wrong page. That looks like a virus.
00:47:12
Speaker
Who is your animator? It's Korean. So I hope it's not gonna be whipped to me. I don't know. Well, I mean, I don't, I'm not that familiar with like Korean. Aniplex, Aniplex. Aniplex, okay. Interesting. Yeah, Arthur, isn't Aniplex who did Full Metal Alchemist?
00:47:41
Speaker
I'm not sure. It says any pucks in a one pictures are doing both are working together and a one pictures does mash magic and muscles. They did seven deadly sins, fairy tales, sword art online, erased and black butler and your line April Wow, they got here. They have your line April I'm surprised. Yeah.
00:48:09
Speaker
Apparently, did they do Moogan train too? Oh, I'm not seeing you can train on here, sir. I'm seeing the irregular at magic school. Apparently, they did the movie for that as well, I think. Oh, when is that supposed to come out? So leveling. I saw a fall.
00:48:37
Speaker
Wow. That's soon. It is soon. I've heard about it all summer. Solo Leveling is slated for a winter 24 release, most likely in January. Crunchyroll will be streaming, will be the streaming platform for Solo Leveling. Well, I see episode one comes out in 2023, 1.1. Maybe that's a prequel. Ah, the one, it might be, especially if it's 1.1. Yeah. Interesting.
00:49:06
Speaker
But yeah, apparently that's the one supposed to change the game. So hopefully, I don't know.
00:49:12
Speaker
I don't know. It's a lot to compete with. Anime have only gotten better, and the animation has gone. Is worlds better from anything it could have ever been back in the day? So everybody has their work cut out for them. The market is tight. And quite frankly, you got to be a bad motherfucker to compete with Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen, or anything else that I want to

Hell's Paradise Finale Reflections

00:49:34
Speaker
watch. OK? But damn it, I'm going to watch it.
00:49:41
Speaker
There's a new one I was telling you guys about earlier that I'm willing. I'm going to try to watch the ZOM 100. Let me see if I can find a quick synopsis on it real quick. Also, in the meantime, before I find that, like, what the heck is happening? Oh, did you guys see the Black Clover movie? Because I did not see it. I haven't seen it yet. It's on Netflix. It's on Netflix? Yeah. Oh, I'm going to watch it soon.
00:50:11
Speaker
Okay, I need to watch that But I was going with fire force what the fuck's happening with fire force, yeah, I loved fire force when it was out The only thing that was corny to me was when he started throwing up gang signs to go faster
00:50:32
Speaker
Oh my God, y'all. When is the next release date? But speaking of shows that are just like getting really, really good is I've been really enjoying Hell's Paradise recently. Oh, it's done, which is sad. Wait, what? Wait, did I see the last episode? You said it's done. Yeah, I think it's I think season is done. Yeah, that was the finale.
00:50:55
Speaker
That's the one thing about watching like shows on Crunchyroll and stuff. They don't announce that it's the finale. They just put up the last episode and just, and that's it. You checked it. It doesn't even feel like a finale. It did not feel like a finale at all. Yeah. I mean, I guess in a sense of like, um, Gabi Maru like blanking on everything and not knowing his life, having amnesia. I mean, that was dope, but I thought, are you kidding me? That's literally the finale. We didn't even talk about it. I didn't even know it was a finale.
00:51:24
Speaker
Well, let's talk about it now. Let's talk about it. What? No, like, I'm blown by that. I thought I loved honestly, it's I like the direction it's going. I was really excited about it. I like that that they weren't Gabi maru wasn't the first person to defeat one of the tension or whatever it's called. Like one of the gods and then I love that they made it like the other people and they kill people off, which I appreciate to like
00:51:53
Speaker
Cool. Now there's like weight to every battle because you don't know if they're gonna survive. Yeah, and I just I'm shocked that he would have lost his memory because to me that like, that's take some balls to take away your main characters. Like
00:52:07
Speaker
That just takes a takes dedication to do that to kind of do that to your main character. I would expect something like that to take to do. You could do that to other people and that's less common or more common. But like your main character, you're willing to take it back that far because you can't even if you win the battle, you can lose yourself. And I just love that concept.
00:52:26
Speaker
Yeah, for sure. Honestly, I think he's gone already. And I kind of like how they did it, because he didn't lose his memory until he started mastering Tao, right? And I think that lends credence to the Ninja Girls, what she was saying about how his wife might be fake, and his whole life might be fake. And everything that has kept the reins on this nigga might be fake.
00:52:55
Speaker
I think in the first couple of episodes of the season, we saw him like humane. I know it looked rough, but that was probably the most humane he's ever been. And now we're at a point where we've seen his world crumble around him, so he has nothing to lose. And he's in the best place to have that mindset, because they at war right now. And they got at least, what is it, five, six other people to deal with? I mean, I'm extremely happy that
00:53:22
Speaker
they took the reins off him so early, because I do want to see him get down. Because the little moments that you see of him where he's like, oh, my conscience this, oh, my conscience that, I'm not going to enjoy this. I'm going to do it, but I'm not going to enjoy it. Whereas you're about to see him be like an absolute demon in the next season, I'm assuming. And we get to see him at, I think, full power.
00:53:45
Speaker
Bro, yeah, that's gonna be nuts. I liked him better. I mean, I think him losing his consciousness or losing himself is gonna be... I don't know if I think it's gonna make him a better fighter, but I think he's gonna be less cautious. Like, I think he'll just be more unhinged.
00:54:04
Speaker
But don't you think he would be like, oh, I think the unhinged, he'll be more unhinged for sure. But I think that will also increase his like tactical prowess. Because like, he's gonna want to live, he's gonna do whatever it takes to survive. And as opposed to before he's willing to sacrifice himself. Like remember when they were fighting a giant, he was willing to take the hit. So shorty didn't get hit.
00:54:24
Speaker
Yeah, that's out the window now. And I think they also set the tone for him to fall in love with her. I know that one of her superiors asked her, what's your relationship with that man? The way that you talk about him and feel about him is not something becoming of your position.
00:54:43
Speaker
However, I think that she's going to take the place of his wife and she's going to be the one to end up reigning him back in. This is all speculation, of course, but I definitely can see that happen for sure. Do you think this is just gross, I guess, but do you think that they would make their tongue reciprocally better by doing that little ceremony? Having sex in front of everybody like it's like the Matrix.
00:55:11
Speaker
I don't know. I mean, you making that comment and everybody else in the show kind of implying like, yeah, that girl is going to make some good, you know, make my 10 getting much better. Like, I feel like... That was so gross. That was really disturbing. I don't think that they

MASH Series Review

00:55:28
Speaker
would do that. And I say that because the people fought them for that reason because that shit was wild.
00:55:37
Speaker
And then given the fact that they don't know how to do the tau jutsu yet, but in terms of using it to protect themselves, they do. So I think that it's not necessary. And so I don't see them using her in that way. She's definitely one that I see them protecting.
00:56:01
Speaker
Yeah, well, I'm very sad that that show is over. I'm not even gonna lie. I did not know that. That how you just felt is what happened with me when I realized that there was another there wasn't another episode of mash. That's it. Wait, mash is over too. Yeah, wait, scoot. I don't understand. I will say at least mash felt like a finale. I could see that being a finale more than the other one.
00:56:30
Speaker
How did you feel about MASH? I really liked MASH. The last episode was fine, but I've really liked it so far. Yeah. I've honestly thought it was hilarious. I have questions about MASH.
00:56:49
Speaker
Shoot him off. Ride him off, sir. So like the last episode, I forget the dude's name, the guy that was in all purple with the shitty bowl cut. I don't remember his name, but he kept talking about how there was some resonance. And I was like, what the fuck are you resonating with if MASH doesn't have magic?
00:57:14
Speaker
I can't do a telekinetic now, nigga. What's going on? I was just, I don't know. That part doesn't make sense to me. I am interested to see how those two come together. Yeah, I got questions. I agree. I was very confused by him doing, kept saying like, oh yeah, he's feeling something when he came in. But. But.
00:57:39
Speaker
I liked it. I liked it a lot. And I like how, like, MASH. MASH is another person where I think of, like, he's so principal, even though, like, they make it goofy. I respect his principles. The goofy kind of gets played out, though. Well, you don't like cream puffs?
00:57:55
Speaker
Yeah, the cream pub joke does kind of lose its lose its hit, but not the anytime he says anything about muscle magic. It just has me on the floor. He's a quad magic. And biceps magic. Yeah. Anytime he does that, I'm on the floor. So I can't even lie. I've enjoyed that. When he punches the mirror and everybody finally realizes that he was never using magic. How did it take them so long?
00:58:25
Speaker
Yeah, I will say though, I don't think that, I think he had resonance to Kawan's point, because I don't really know, but I feel like, I think he's got to be some kind of enhanced being though, because his strength doesn't make sense. That's fair. I don't know if he's not human or whatever bloodline, but like there's got to be some reason that he's power, he's magic-less to begin with and maybe enchanted in a different way.
00:58:54
Speaker
I mean, I just look at him like a taller version of Asta. Asta doesn't have no magic. Yeah, he's definitely Asta the Chad 2.0. I agree with Alex. I think he's kind of like Toji from Jujutsu Kaisen. At least that's what I'm going with for right now until I improve and otherwise. Yeah. I respect that point.
00:59:19
Speaker
No, yeah, I'm very excited for what they do in the with the next season, especially because like, when they wrap this, it's not like they took like, what are you gonna do with the 15 15 gold coins that old boy had? Like, he's not gonna give them away. He needs to keep should he just let him he let the man walk out and I was like, Oh, you're not gonna get these coins. But what they're gonna do about all that should be good. And I'm curious to see like, the other people that broke out like how strong they are.
00:59:50
Speaker
Yeah, I want to see the rest of this mysterious group. I do think that the other guy kind of like became his ally a little too easily, but it was fine because the whole tone of the show is kind of just silly. Which guy? The puppet dude? Yeah.
01:00:10
Speaker
I don't, maybe not. And the only reason I say that is because like, Mash was the only thing that stopped that dude from making him choke himself out to death. So like, if you are the only thing between me and the Grim Reaper, I'm gonna help your ass. Fair point. Fair point. Like we might have beef after the fact, but I'll be living. I'll tell you that much.

Introduction to Zom 100 and Conclusion

01:00:37
Speaker
That's funny. All right.
01:00:40
Speaker
I finally found this description for Zom 100. It says, with three years under his belt at the company from hell, Akira Tendo is mentally and physically spent, all at the ripe old age of 24. Even his crush from accounting, Sori, wants nothing to do with him. Then just when life is beginning to look like one big disappointment, it happens. The zombie apocalypse descends on Japan.
