The Transfer Window Buzz

00:00:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to the Daily Newcastle, a new week starts and it's June the 30th, the last day of the PSR transfer window. It should be very, very exciting.
00:00:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm joined on Sunday evening by my good friend Michael Grameslaw to discuss how exciting it's going to be on this last day of the PSR window. Are you thrilled, Michael? Are you thrilled with the prospect of what's going to happen in the next 24 hours?
00:00:36
Michael Grahamslaw
ah I am absolutely

Sarcastic Takes on Newcastle's Transfers

00:00:39
Michael Grahamslaw
shaken. It's going to be the greatest day in the history of transfer windows because we might actually do something.
00:00:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think we might we might get James Trafford if we've agreed something with Burnley.
00:00:53
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah, 100%. Mm-hmm.
00:00:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I think we're going to come on to our our transfer window attempts slightly later in this podcast. um I'm being super enthusiastic about it because that's sarcasm for our American listeners.
00:01:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
That was English sarcasm in action.
00:01:11
Michael Grahamslaw
o
00:01:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
because neither Michael nor I are very excited by what Newcastle United are doing in the transfer window.
00:01:19
Michael Grahamslaw
ah Speak for yourself.
00:01:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
and After...
00:01:21
Michael Grahamslaw
I love bringing in 16-year-olds from Rangers. This is what I watch football for.
00:01:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
and but
00:01:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, it wasn't quite what we were anticipating when at that last press conference after the Everton game at the end of the season, Eddie was saying we need to be quick.
00:01:33
Michael Grahamslaw
Definitely not.
00:01:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
We need to strike by the iron's heart.
00:01:40
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:01:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Everything needs to be done really, really quickly and then nothing's happened for a month. But we'll get

England U21 Triumph

00:01:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
onto that later on. First of all, and I think most importantly, I just wanted to ask if you watched that wonderful under-21 Euro final last night where England went into a two-goal lead, got pegged back to two-all and into extra time before they scored the winner to become...
00:02:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
under-21 European champions for the... retain their under-21 European championship title. And key to that, right through the tournament, was our very own Tino Libramento, who I think has done nothing but make it even more expensive when Manchester City comes for him.
00:02:16
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:02:27
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah, absolutely. I think it's it's it's one of those where, I mean, I did watch last night, but admittedly, I was at play it day at Newcastle Racecourse. We went for a curry afterwards and then watched the game.
00:02:40
Michael Grahamslaw
So my eyesight might not have been what it currently is. um And I might have thought, of you know, Tino played a lot better than what he did. But I thought he was absolutely fantastic. And he has been for the entire tournament.
00:02:52
Michael Grahamslaw
And I think if it wasn't for... maybe Harvey Elliott and the, ah the German striker, Wolfsmeid, I think is he signing for Bayern Munich um off just off the back of this tournament. He had a good season last season as well. So it's not just that, but if it wasn't for those two, you could genuinely say that Tino Livermento is up there for player of the tournament. And I haven't seen if any awards have been given out, but I'd be very surprised if he didn't win a defender of the tournament, if that is actually still a thing.
00:03:21
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:03:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, Michael,

Euro Final Analysis

00:03:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
it's our thing, right? He is the daily Newcastle defender of the Under-21 European Championship 2025. twenty twenty five Well done, Sino.
00:03:31
Michael Grahamslaw
Oh, brilliant.
00:03:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll have to buy a cup for you. No, he was excellent. He was excellent. And it was a great game. i sat and watched it live without an afternoon at Newcastle Racecourse of beer swirling around in me or a big fat curry to make me go.
00:03:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just watched it. I just watched it with a cup with a couple of cold coffees. But what a good game. Newcastle, England were fantastic in the first half. They really deserved their lead.
00:04:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then the guy you're talking about looked like he was going to be called Voldemort. He's not quite, but it's like that. He scored a bullet header to bring it back to 2-1 at half time. And then, of course, Germany turned up in the second half. um Not that they totally dominated England. I think it was a really good,
00:04:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
good final end-to-end stuff, but they did get their equaliser to take it into extra time. And then, knew? A young lad called Roe, I've forgotten his first name, of Marseille, ex-Norris, yeah.
00:04:30
Michael Grahamslaw
ah Jonathan Rowe Marseille was it Norwich? was it Norwich for a while? yeah he's great player
00:04:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
He became an unlikely hero by scoring virtually with his first touch at the beginning of extra time. And then, Yeah, Germany did hit the bar in the last minute of normal time and the last minute of extra time. But hitting the bar, that's just a shot off target, isn't it? So they don't count.

Young Talent in Senior Teams

00:04:54
Michael Grahamslaw
exactly
00:04:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And it was very, very good to watch.
00:04:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's always good to watch any England team beat a German team. But for it to be a European champion. And that's two lots of under-21 tournaments we've won in a row, Michael. So that's good. Should it not be kicking through into the senior team by now?
00:05:13
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah, I think it's one of those where I'm not sure if maybe it's the the culture of Italy, Germany, etc., where younger players aren't embedded into the first team um that much. I'm not sure if anyone remembers and when we were in the Champions League, all of youngsters were playing against the likes of AC Milan, PSG, etc. um One of the players that stood out then was Kamada from AC Milan.
00:05:40
Michael Grahamslaw
he is His goal record in the youth system is incredible he's just been sold to to Lecce uh for three million AC Milan do have a buyback close of four million but that just shows a team that couldn't get into Europe wasn't willing to risk playing a younger player uh in those kind of circumstances and I think in England that's the difference let's say I mean we're not a great example uh Newcastle William Sula but Lewis Miley he came in when we needed him. He was absolutely fantastic.
00:06:12
Michael Grahamslaw
I don't think the likes of AC Milan in Italy, et cetera, are more willing to

Rising Stars Discussion

00:06:17
Michael Grahamslaw
do that. And I think that's why at youth level, you have the likes of Harvey Elliott, who feels like he's been going for 10 years now.
00:06:23
Michael Grahamslaw
um
00:06:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:06:25
Michael Grahamslaw
He's still breaking through, but he's fantastic on that team. James McAtee, these are players with a lot of senior experience. And I think at under 21 level, that's the difference.
00:06:35
Michael Grahamslaw
But then when you bring it up into senior level, You are coming against teams with a lot more experience, a lot more legs, and certainly better players. But I do have to say, even if you just look at the two goals from last night, and to be honest, the two goals weren't England's best bit to play, but they were very good. And I think the future's definitely bright, but it just depends on if the manager's the right person to take it forward. Because of the Senegal game...
00:07:03
Michael Grahamslaw
And the Andorra game, to be fair. I don't think anyone's saying yes to that at the moment.
00:07:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, let's get some more of these young kids through. I'll tell you who my player of the tournament was. and I mean, if there's somebody who we can buy off Nottingham Forest for £60 million, it's got to be this guy, Elliot Anderson.
00:07:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
He was all over the place last night.
00:07:22
Michael Grahamslaw
Oh.
00:07:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
What a machine he was.
00:07:25
Michael Grahamslaw
He's great, isn't he?
00:07:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
He was, but for me, player of the final, Elliot Anderson, although came off early in the extra time because he was just soft. But so yeah, what a great performance from him.
00:07:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm still proud of him, even though it's galling to know that he's a Forest player and it probably would cost more than £60 million to get him back.
00:07:42
Michael Grahamslaw
Oh.
00:07:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I don't think anybody would go and get him back. They'd be too embarrassed about it. But what I did see last night, Michael, is that this isn't even England's under-21 full-strent side.
00:07:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm thinking that's because there are one or two... ah Well, hopefully it's because Lewis Miley was injured, although I think he was going to play for the under-19s.
00:08:00
Michael Grahamslaw
so
00:08:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But i must be one or two players away at um ah the Club World Cup who would otherwise have featured in that squad.
00:08:13
Michael Grahamslaw
Ah.
00:08:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Jamie Skitton, who Chelsea, I believe, have just smaffled off Dortmund. I think he's over in and America at the Club World Cup.
00:08:20
Michael Grahamslaw
Mm-hmm.
00:08:24
Michael Grahamslaw
Yes.
00:08:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
What about any Chelsea or City players that we might have seen?
00:08:29
Michael Grahamslaw
um off the top of my head, i can't think of too many, but now you mention it, um Joe Bellingham's the best example there. um I think he's gone to the Club World Cup and he's done absolutely fantastically um with Borussia Dortmund.
00:08:45
Michael Grahamslaw
And I can say that now because he's not a Sunderland player. um He is a player that I do like and I'll be honest, what I see a lot of Newcastle fans saying, oh, well, he's he's not that good.
00:08:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:08:55
Michael Grahamslaw
you know I'll watch him in this game. He's really overrated. It's like, We kind of need to take our Newcastle black and white tinted glasses off. um But yeah, he's a great player.
00:09:07
Michael Grahamslaw
And then there will be one or two in the Man City lineup or the the Chelsea lineup, 100%, where you sit there and you go, hang on, why are they not in the squad? um One i can actually think of... um just looking there is Rico Lewis.
00:09:24
Michael Grahamslaw
He's 20 years old.
00:09:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:09:25
Michael Grahamslaw
I don't know i don't know if it's because he's got five or six games for England now. Maybe he's not good enough. That means he can't get the call-up. I think Tino's had a call-up, but he's played, so he was still able to. But could you imagine the likes of Rico Lewis ah still in there? Lewis Hall back in there. um Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace.
00:09:47
Michael Grahamslaw
ah He's another one.
00:09:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:09:48
Michael Grahamslaw
Kobe Maynard could have been in there. ah You can tell I've got the list up in front of me now. I'm back going. ah Jamie Gittins, who Chelsea have just signed for 55 million.
00:09:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:09:58
Michael Grahamslaw
the So all players like that, you're looking at it and going, wow, what a line-up England could have had. ah Liam Dallap as well actually is included in that. So what a line-up we could have had.
00:10:10
Michael Grahamslaw
And we still won with what was potentially our second string. But with Elliot Anderson, et cetera, in your second string, oh, that's a great team.
00:10:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow.
00:10:19
Michael Grahamslaw
But actually, just just one thing on Anderson.
00:10:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
It certainly is.
00:10:22
Michael Grahamslaw
You mentioned him earlier. um Do you think he'd be as good now if he'd stayed at Newcastle? Because as much as I love Anderson, I genuinely think he would have had a season like Miley's had where know Miley's was because of injury, but he wouldn't have got too much game time and I don't think he would have really shone.
00:10:44
Michael Grahamslaw
So I think begrudgingly, I think him moving to Forest did have to happen, but what do you think?
00:10:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
For him, undoubtedly, he's got more game time at Forest. I mean, he's started nearly every Premier League game for them and played the full game. I think he would think you would have got more time than Miley would have done because he would have been the first choice.
00:10:59
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah, 100%. Mm-hmm.
00:11:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
So he'd have started all those games Joe Linton was at. you know I think he would have played instead of Willock. And Willock played in 28 games or something, didn't he? We did see Miley.
00:11:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think, yeah I don't know if it would have brought him on quite as much, but he was, I mean he was that good at Newcastle anyway, in the flashes that we saw. I think he would be challenging for a starting position, even with the three midfielders we've got, because I think he's that good, and his feeling, I don't think he's reached his feeling yet.
00:11:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think he needed to, he needed to learn from Bruno.
00:11:35
Michael Grahamslaw
No, I definitely don't think he's at the ceiling.
00:11:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, you could see last night, out the way he bought fouls, the way he, Brought the ball away from the edge of his own box. And you could see he was going for where he knew he was going to get fouled to win a free kick.
00:11:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's a trick he's learned off Bruno, I think.
00:11:53
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:11:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
and But more power to his elbow. I mean, he's a streetwise young man.
00:11:58
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:12:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think he's a great player. And, you know, I'm really glad that we we've brought him through at Newcastle. So we can be proud of him even if he's tearing it up the forest of England. and But anyway, well done to the England under-21s. Here's hoping that we will see that come through into the next Euros and World Cup. That sounds like we've got a 22-man score of winners in the under-21s. And maybe there's a lot of gaps in that senior team for those players that are needed.
00:12:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyway, we'll see.

Newcastle's Transfer Disappointments

00:12:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I'm going to pause there, Michael. We can have a proper good old chinwag about the transfer window after we've heard from Bionic.
00:12:37
Michael Grahamslaw
Thank you.
00:13:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Great advice, Ken. And I'm sure we all will. Part two, that trump the transfer window. What did we predict when we last spoke about this late Thursday?
00:13:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Came out on Friday morning, Michael. 125 million, triple bid. And we did the maths and said, well, it's lovely that we've got a triple bid, but none of them are at the right level for anybody to say yes to. And sure enough,
00:13:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think the Anthony Alanga bid was rejected first, quickly followed by the James Stafford bid, because apparently we did 25 or 27 million we bid for him.
00:13:48
Michael Grahamslaw
25, which
00:13:58
Michael Grahamslaw
a weird one.
00:13:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
and And now the Jao Pedro one we hear, which we went back for, but the second bid has been rejected. And now Chelsea have stepped in, which is really frustrating because they're not going to bother.
00:14:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
but whether it's 50, 55 or 60, if they want the player, they're going to have him. And to be fair, he looks a good addition to the rest of the players that Chelsea have gone and got.
00:14:18
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:14:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
If you assume that they're going to get rid of Jackson, he's perfect for them. um I'm kind of really underwhelmed. I'm more than underwhelmed. I'm disappointed as well, Michael, because we're the richest club in the world.
00:14:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
We've got completely clear PSR bill of health. And we can't even buy the first player, even if he is a little bit pricey.
00:14:46
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:14:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
How are you feeling about it?
00:14:48
Michael Grahamslaw
I'll be honest, I am the same. um and we spoke When we spoke on Thursday, i i was I was a little bit more optimistic. I was thinking, oh, well, you know, it's just the initial bids. We'll we'll still you know we'll still get them. um And that $125 million hasn't even broken down the way we thought because we thought Trafford was $30 million.
00:15:06
Michael Grahamslaw
He's actually $25 million. It means there's $100 million going elsewhere. If Alanga was $45 million, that means we've put $55 million in for João Pedro, which isn't that far off what Brighton wants. So...
00:15:18
Michael Grahamslaw
let's just go in with another bid. But if you look at the rumours, then apparently João Pedro said from day one, he wants to be back in London. ah He wants to stay in London, um like living arrangements um rather than the team, obviously.
00:15:32
Michael Grahamslaw
um So it's it's one of those where you're thinking, and that was actually mentioned in an interview with a teammate ages to ago as well. So you're sitting there anything and you're thinking, surely we haven't spent all this time on someone we've had a rough idea or at least knew that he didn't really want to come up north to Newcastle. And it's starting to worry me a little bit um because I'm seeing a lot of teams bringing in players, Sunderland included, um which never helps.
00:16:02
Michael Grahamslaw
um And the players aren't Newcastle standard, no, but it's it's one of those where you just see players coming into other clubs you're thinking... I need something to get excited about Newcastle. Come on. And I'll be honest, James Trafford isn't going to be that for me.
00:16:16
Michael Grahamslaw
um But at least it's some it's a starting point. And that's all that's all we're asking for. We've signed two youngsters. um Cordero, who looked who looked decent in the under-19s European Championships. Unfortunately, he's playing against probably National League, League 2 standard at best.
00:16:35
Michael Grahamslaw
ah So he needs to go and learn a better quality of team. um And then Hutchinson, who we've brought in from Rangers, he's a right winger. Is that the right winger we've been asking for the entire time? ah
00:16:47
Michael Grahamslaw
I know it's not, but it's but know you just you have to laugh. um But yeah, I'm worried. I'm starting to get worried. And I know we'll be fine because even with the squad we've got, we should still be pushing for Europe next season. But if João Pedro was the the primary target,
00:16:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
That gets
00:17:08
Michael Grahamslaw
And we're not even willing to pay the extra 5 million. And we know he wasn't even wanting to come to Newcastle. It just, it feels very amateurish, doesn't it?
00:17:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
released, doesn't it?
00:17:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, and also, I mean, I know in Eddie we trust. We do. He's a wonderful man.
00:17:23
Michael Grahamslaw
Yes. Yes.
00:17:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
However, I'm just thinking back to previous transfer windows, and the one where it was just Eddie was the one where we spent the whole summer chasing after Mark Gaheen didn't get him, and then threw money at a longer on the last day and didn't get him either.
00:17:35
Michael Grahamslaw
yes
00:17:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Previous transfer windows that have brought Bruno in and Botman in and Gordon in and Sonali in,
00:17:44
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:17:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Amanda and Murdad were involved in those, were they not? I mean, that's who is central to that.
00:17:52
Michael Grahamslaw
There would have been, yeah.
00:17:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is that what we're missing? Are we missing an Amanda Stacey to actually harm the last few million down off the price that we're willing to pay?
00:18:04
Michael Grahamslaw
I mean, ah it definitely could be a shout. I think it's it's one of those where we're sitting here now and we're thinking, hang on, a lot of people have come in and tried to work with Eddie Howe, managing directors, but scouts. Let's be honest, it's more than what we actually know. like um And it doesn't seem like that we've been able to find a combination that works. And as much as Amanda and Murdad, you know, they were great when they were here.
00:18:33
Michael Grahamslaw
There were a few deals where you thought, but have we just gone and got went with what they asked for? Southampton say, oh, we want 40 or whatever it was for Livermanto and we've gone.
00:18:45
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah, why not? And that is kind of amateurish. Negotiations do need to happen, but at the same time, you've got to find a happy medium and well we've been on both ends of the spectrum and

Valuation and Strategy in Transfers

00:18:59
Michael Grahamslaw
it doesn't look like getting any better anytime soon.
00:19:01
Michael Grahamslaw
and And to be honest, I can't remember the last player we signed in June. That wasn't that goalkeeper from forest, uh, Vlachadimos. So it's, it is a worry.
00:19:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Well, I get that negotiations need to happen, but if you're being quoted good value prices, but what the valuation, we've got a valuation on ESAC, right?
00:19:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're talking about 200 million for it.
00:19:26
Michael Grahamslaw
True.
00:19:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
But let's say it's 150 that we're putting them and everyone agrees with that. We're not going to be negotiated down to take 100 plus so much more in add-on.
00:19:36
Michael Grahamslaw
sure
00:19:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
So why the hell should anybody else? You know, if Hall is 32 or whatever it was and that's what they said and we put that in the deal and then we pay it, or Libermento is 40 and that's what they're valuing, I mean, there could be no question that Libermento and Hall are both worth a lot more than we paid for them two years ago.
00:20:00
Michael Grahamslaw
Definitely. No. Yeah. 100%. Yeah.
00:20:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Why on earth are we not just paying what these clubs are valuing? I mean, I get if it was Liverpool and you were after Nunes and they were after the 75 million, or Man United are trying to recover the 86 million they've wasted on Anthony.
00:20:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, you've got to have your sensible head on.
00:20:17
Michael Grahamslaw
yeah
00:20:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
But it's not sensible to have Gio Pedro if he was ever going to come. But we're putting bids in, so we're obviously thinking we're going to can succeed.
00:20:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's no good bidding just, I mean, five million is less than 10% of what they're asking.
00:20:34
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.

um to To give Chelsea time to step in and steal him from under our noses, which is annoying. Mbwemo doesn't look too expensive. Cunha doesn't look too expensive, sorry, at 62 and a half now.
00:20:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Not with Mbwemo and Semenya being quoted at 70, 75 million. But I don't know Cunha always wanted to go to Man U. Maybe we were never in for him.
00:21:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Maybe his personality wouldn't have fitted with what Eddie Howe was looking for.
00:21:06
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:21:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
We don't know. It's just frustration boiling over, I think. That's what I'm talking about, Nicole.
00:21:16
Michael Grahamslaw
I get that completely.
00:21:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyway, ah I need to take a breather before I lose my temper about I'm going ask you to do the Zencastrad with it. And then when we come back, we'll just have a little look at what the implications are with Kitten's going to Chelsea.
00:21:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Dunderland buying three players, which I don't know much about. Someone asked you to tell us about that. um But let's hear from Pencaster first.
00:21:39
Michael Grahamslaw

00:22:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you, Michael. No Tony the Tiger in that any anymore, but never mind. What can
00:22:11
Michael Grahamslaw
My professionalism levels have had to go up this year. New season, new me.
00:22:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
we do? You'll be setting the bar higher than me or Kevin could ever reach. So stop that.
00:22:22
Michael Grahamslaw
I don't know about that one.
00:22:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:22:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, so the one I heard about today, Jeremy Gitton, 55 million, Chelsea, he's a left winger.

Chelsea's Squad Refresh

00:22:33
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:22:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
They've already got De Lax to play centre forward. And if they pinched Gau Pedro, who is a number 10 stroke centre forward,
00:22:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:22:44
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah. Probably anywhere across that line.
00:22:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
they they start to look really refreshed from the side that finished fourth last year. and And I guess the ah guess that that there's a coming pro jackson and the other The other guy who sounds like Kunky something, but I can never remember what his name is.
00:23:11
Michael Grahamslaw
ah Christopher and Kunku.
00:23:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nkunku, that's the one.
00:23:14
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:23:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
These guys, and these guys haven't got a place. Sancho obviously was playing down the left for part of the time, but he's left.
00:23:21
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:23:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mudrick, what a waste of money he was. But he's nowhere to be seen now. Is he on loan somewhere forever?
00:23:27
Michael Grahamslaw
ah He's banned. ah He had that drugs banned.
00:23:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh yeah, course. Of course, yeah. Oh, well, that can't help them on their PSRs, can it?
00:23:36
Michael Grahamslaw
They'll probably end up getting it removed as a technicality.
00:23:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:23:41
Michael Grahamslaw
They're brilliant at that kind of stuff. it's I'm actually envious of it. If we could just sell a hotel already, I'd i'd love it. But, yeah.
00:23:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Yeah, what can we do?
00:23:49
Michael Grahamslaw
Women's team isn't that good yet either. We'll get there.
00:23:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, Chelsea keeping pace with Liverpool and Manchester City, who've well-documented big money signings already through there.

Liverpool's Aggressive Moves

00:24:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:24:02
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:24:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Liverpool apparently after a centre-forward. Oh, a centre-forward. um
00:24:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
and have already spent 200 million, will they spend another 200 million? The problem I've got with Liverpool doing that is that if Diaz goes to Saudi Arabia for 70 mil, and Nunes gets bailed out for 70 mil, and Harvey Elliott goes for 40, 45 mil, they've already sold Callagher, they've got another 200 million coming in there.
00:24:14
Michael Grahamslaw
ah
00:24:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
So they could really test Newcastle's results.
00:24:33
Michael Grahamslaw
They do, yeah.
00:24:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
And to be honest,
00:24:36
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah. I think if they were going to do that, they'd they'd probably have to bring in more than a few players just because of how injury prone quite a few of those players are. So you've obviously got Chiesa would still be there.
00:24:50
Michael Grahamslaw
He's injury-prone. Jota's quite injury-prone. um In your backups, you're looking at Pajetic, who's been injured most of the sea last few seasons. and so Can't trust Endo to play a significant amount of time. So, I think even if Chelsea, not if Chelsea, if Liverpool were to to sell quite a few players, I think they would have to bring in more than just Alexander Iza I mean don't be wrong if they did their starting 11 is the best in football world football um as a team not as individuals that'd be still Real Madrid but I think you're looking at it and going wow that's an incredible team but I think they would need to bring in more than just one player for over the course of the season so even if they did I'm still saying Alexander Iza safe and I'll go on record and say
00:25:40
Michael Grahamslaw
I do think Isaac will want to leave at the end of next season. And I do think Newcastle will be happy to cash out. um But I think we've got it we've got another year of the the Swede, definitely.
00:25:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I hope so. ah So maybe if Ilanga does come and we do actually win something and we go deep into the Champions League, he doesn't need to go.
00:26:02
Michael Grahamslaw
Could help.
00:26:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll have to see. we'd have to um We'd have to have everybody getting their wages raised. I think that's the killer, isn't it?
00:26:11
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:26:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
um If he's on 120 and he's going to go up to 160 on a new contract that we offer him, that's still less than half of what Chelsea or Man United would offer him for sure.
00:26:21
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah, exactly.
00:26:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
um So I am disappointed and frustrated. I'll just add to that Michael by telling me who it is that Sunland has brought.

Sunderland's New Signings

00:26:35
Michael Grahamslaw
So obviously Sunderland have started off with Enzo Le Fay. They've broke their transfer. I've got to bring him in. um To be honest, based off what we saw last season, it was a case of ah if they got promoted, they probably would have been happy not getting promoted just so they didn't have to activate that 20 million.
00:26:51
Michael Grahamslaw
um But they have, and that's fine. I guess joe billier Joe Bellingham's paid that off. um But they've also brought a, well, it looks very likely that they're about to bring in Ronaldo.
00:27:04
Michael Grahamslaw
um No. Not the one that I think, and I haven't just missed pronounced Ronaldo. ah It is Ronaldo, the left-back from Atletico Madrid.
00:27:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Grinaldo. ranal
00:27:15
Michael Grahamslaw
um I'll be honest, he's ah he's a good left-back. um I don't know how his playing style will, let's say, work in the Premier League. I do think he'll be a decent player, but he'll be one of those, that in my opinion...
00:27:30
Michael Grahamslaw
will take a good six seven months to to really gel um and i don't think sunderland have that time and then the last player that they're looking to bring in they're actually going to break their transfer um their transfer record again um with habib diara uh from strasbourg um and you're thinking break that transfer record on someone from who strasbourg that team managed by liam rossin yeah yep them um And to be honest,
00:27:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:28:01
Michael Grahamslaw
I haven't seen too much of him. When you look at the statistics, it doesn't even look like he was one of Strasbourg's best players ah last season. But when I have seen him play, um people might remember England's dismal 3-1 defeat to Senegal.
00:28:16
Michael Grahamslaw
um It was actually Diara that got the second goal. um I can't remember too much about his performance. I just remember England being absolutely dreadful. But he was playing centre midfield for them on that night. So it's one of those where I think...
00:28:31
Michael Grahamslaw
A lot of Maccams will be happy. um They'll be looking at it and going, oh, well, we've brought in but know really good players. um What I would say to that is, obviously, any Newcastle fans listening, don't get caught up in any of the social media balls. It's one of those where we're going to bring in players and there will be better than this.
00:28:54
Michael Grahamslaw
Better than Atletico Madrid's third-choice left-back. Better than a centre-mid from a team managed by a second-rate left-back who knew one knew. um Although, actually, is a good manager. Shout-out Leibre Sr.
00:29:05
Michael Grahamslaw
um And certainly better than Enzo Le Fay. So, chin up. Everything's going to be okay. We've had a terrible start to the transfer window.
00:29:16
Michael Grahamslaw
But Izak's here. Bruno's here. Tenali's here. And we're about two days away from raiding... asked Well, 24 hours, should I say, away from raiding Burnley and raiding Aston Villa for good players.
00:29:30
Michael Grahamslaw
And we'll be smiling again soon.
00:29:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
You have to cut that for your social short there, Michael, because I'm with you again tomorrow. I suggest that we meet quite late tomorrow the evening and when we know how the last day of the June transfer window has unfolded to see if we have managed to winkle out an Esri Conter or even a Jacob Ramsey or maybe Ollie Watkins or some something that something to excite us.
00:30:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
the minute which At the minute, we're just good enough to get our stick for goalkeeper in.
00:30:04
Michael Grahamslaw
Well...
00:30:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Come on, it's not so expensive.
00:30:12
Michael Grahamslaw
I'm not sure if you've if you've heard, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin's left Everton. ah
00:30:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
I did hear that, yeah.
00:30:18
Michael Grahamslaw
That would be the most depressing thing to to happen to us in a little while.
00:30:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Well, you might say that's depressing, but I'm just waiting for the Callum Wilson play as you play contract to be announced tomorrow.
00:30:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
but That would be even more more depressing Michael.
00:30:32
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah,
00:30:34
Michael Grahamslaw
it's and it's it's a bit we odd that nothing's been mentioned, but we've got to try and stay positive.
00:30:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hey!
00:30:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
We are sounding, we're sounding really down and depressed and we shouldn't be. It's only the end of June. There's two months left in this transfer window. We are in the Champions League and you know we finished fifth last year so we shouldn't be down, we shouldn't be depressed.
00:30:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
I do feel a bit let down from Eddie being so upset. up about things after the Everton game though, which was six weeks ago.
00:31:04
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:31:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah So look, let me say thank you very much for participating in our Sunday tinwag cycle, which goes out on Monday morning.
00:31:14
Michael Grahamslaw
Always happy.
00:31:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
We will be out on Tuesday morning with quite a late tinwag tomorrow night when we'll give the final day of this June transfer window the maximum time to unfold so we can see if anything is happening.
00:31:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
and we'll put our heads together and see if we've got any good news in 24 hours, Michael. Thank you very much indeed.
00:31:38
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah, absolutely.
00:31:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thanks very much for listening, and don't miss us on Tuesday morning with hopefully all the good news. We'll see you then.
