EP 152: Summer Bodies image

EP 152: Summer Bodies

Mom Group Chat

Summer has a way of bringing body image to the forefront, doesn't it? In this episode, we're having an honest conversation about where we're both at with our bodies this summer and how our mindset has shifted over the years.

We talk about why body image isn't something you "fix" once and for all, but more like a wave that comes and goes. We share the things that help us feel good mentally and physically, how we've learned to detach our worth from what our bodies look like, and the little mindset shifts that help us stop the comparison spiral before it takes over.

If you've ever dreaded putting on a swimsuit, found yourself comparing your body to someone else's, or just needed the reminder that you're not alone, this conversation is for you.

Introduction and Podcast Beginnings

00:00:07
Speaker
There's no right way to do it.
00:00:12
Speaker
Oh, we're going to get into it. What up, moms? My name's Whitney, and I'm here with my best friend, Candice, and this is the Mom Group Chat Podcast. i keep you on your toes today. know. That was fun. That was fun. Ah, you got me. Ah!
00:00:25
Speaker
I just pressed go and it was like, you're on! and I was like, it was like live tv And then you blank. Even though I've said it one million times. I know. It's still hard every time. Every time. So what's up?

Makeup Series and Preferences

00:00:42
Speaker
You know, i i'm hating my makeup today. it it looks fine on camera, but I'm doing this series for Instagram where I'm testing a new skin tint every day. Oh, and you don't like this one?
00:00:55
Speaker
no Uh-oh. Uh-uh. It's fine. And it's funny. It's like one of the most popular, like, fancy ones. I personally think it is trash to do. it? You'll see it.
00:01:06
Speaker
It's the... Oh, I want that behind the scene. Like, what is it? It's the Ulta MD. Ulta? Elta. E-L-T-A. People love this and swear by it.
00:01:19
Speaker
Yuck. Not a fan. And like all of my products look so weird on top of it. It gave like absolutely no coverage. Not a fan.
00:01:29
Speaker
Oh, yikes. So many better things. Yikes. Stay tuned for that series. I'm going start posting it next week probably. so oh you're going to be so popular. I'm sure. I'm like, I've been testing them every day. This is like my fourth day.
00:01:44
Speaker
so Oh, that's fun for you. We'll see. I mean, love doing stuff like that. It's like my nightmare. i mean that's why why're but i That's why we're besties. where We love different things. and just And I only say that because I hate putting on face makeup.
00:02:02
Speaker
I don't like wearing it. You like don't really wear face makeup. I love bronzer. Like I love a powder. I don't like, I mean, I have to obviously I'm 35 years old. Like I have to, I used to get away with not like for a really long time in my twenties. I never really wore it, but I have to now. It's unfortunate.
00:02:24
Speaker
I love a foundation. I'm a foundation girl. That's like my most purchased product is like, I can't help it. If I see a new foundation, I want to try like, I have to buy it. Oh my God.
00:02:35
Speaker
Well, I feel like I don't like, um, like a liquid on my body. Like I run damp. Like if you've ever held my hand, I'm a sweaty. And, and so like, if you hold my hand, it's going to clam up on you. Like, sorry to Chris, like he's had to deal with that for so long, but like, I'm just a clammy person. So it just adds to but the moistness. I get it. i do. Yeah.
00:03:01
Speaker
But I feel like, but I feel like, ah so when you use foundation now, do you use a powder foundation? oh that's liquid. o Oh, okay. Cause they make some pretty good like powder foundations these days.
00:03:13
Speaker
If you really did want to stick to a powder. Like I swear to God, I didn't know that. Yeah. Okay. There's some good ones. I'll send you some recs if you want, but if you're happy with your liquid, what liquid do you use?
00:03:29
Speaker
Oh God. Is it benefit? I feel like you... I did buy that. Remember I had to buy that when I got my makeup? And it's yeah fine. I've stopped wearing that. I went back to like Winky Lux. It was from Target. um Oh, okay, cool.
00:03:46
Speaker
We love a drugs storere a drugstore like... they fine I've never used Winky Lux. Oh, I mean, there are some. I don't know. I just like randomly used it. I don't I don't know even know if they sell it at Target anymore. I had to like buy a new one from Amazon.
00:04:02
Speaker
i was getting low.
00:04:05
Speaker
Well, you know, if you ever need a product rack, I'm here for you, girl. I'm here for you. It's more like a product teaching, I'd i'd say. You've taught me 1,000 times and I still like, it it it overwhelms me. You being like, I'm trying new things constantly. I'm like, why is it always changing? Like, I just do the same thing every day.
00:04:25
Speaker
Uh, yeah, it's funny. Uh, when I went to New York with Mackenzie or I went to visit Mackenzie in New York, you know, back in November, she was doing her makeup and she was like complaining. She was like, ah my cheek always looks so patchy when I put my like road stick on and I don't know what to do about it. And I was like, okay.
00:04:45
Speaker
I was like, stop putting the stick directly on your face and instead take your brush and gather it on your brush and dab it on.

Makeup Tips and Industry Challenges

00:04:52
Speaker
And still to this day, like I would say once a month, she texts me and she's like, I still can't get over how you changed my whole life with that one tip. It's so true. She still like, my cheek makeup looks so good and you've changed my life with that. I'm like, it's so simple. Like, but there's been so many times recently where like, do I just burn it all down and become a makeup artist? Like what I've always wanted to do. could.
00:05:19
Speaker
I've thought about it. I'm not going to lie. It's weird hours though. That's unfortunate. That's what I'm saying. That's what holds me back is that if you want to be at high earning, like successful makeup artist, you're working nights and weekends. yeah That's it.
00:05:32
Speaker
Like, And so unless a Real housewive i want to do well Housewives of Tampa could start and you could start doing like their makeup and they need it every day. Or what if you like clung on to someone that like want to glam every day?
00:05:46
Speaker
You probably could find some people there. Rich and famous. Probably. I don't know, but I just love makeup so much. I do. i i love Mackenzie. She's so funny. Like she tells me every time she puts on sunscreen that it reminds her of me in college when I put it on her back and I go, thank God your back is so smooth and not pimply. And she tells me that every time that she felt like that was such a compliment.

Pregnancy and Skin Issues

00:06:15
Speaker
It is such a compliment. I'm telling you, nothing has made me feel more insecure in my whole life than when I was pregnant with Alice and my back was pimply. I've never had a pimply back ever, ever, ever, ever. ever Wait, ok wait, wait. Start over. What happened? You didn't know this? This is like when I was, okay.
00:06:38
Speaker
You guys, when I was pregnant with Alice, I was truly the ugliest person to ever walk this earth. Like pregnancy, Alice's pregnancy and my body just like we're not, we were not s simpatico. Like we just, I looked like an ogre.
00:06:53
Speaker
i had skin like the mountains. It was insane. i And I'll never forget. I was like just out of my first trimester. I remember like starting to show and like I remember we went out to dinner with Vinny's grandparents. We met them at a restaurant and I was wearing a like square back dress like it went a little bit lower and was like square. And it was almost like Hill housey. Like the back was like, yeah you know what I'm talking about? Yeah. And I'll never forget Vinny. And my hair was like, I was growing out my Bob during my pregnancy, which is another reason I was ugly. Let's be real. But I remember Vinny walking behind me into dinner know and was like, he was like, I, and you poor thing. He was trying to be so kind. He was, he was like,
00:07:43
Speaker
I hate to tell you this, but like your back is like pretty pimply.
00:07:50
Speaker
And you guys, I have never, ever. in my life had body acne or just like acne in general. I'm not like an acne girl. Typically knock on wood knock on all the wood. oh I riled up my dogs now. Cause I knocked on the table oh and, and I was so embarrassed and I was angry at him because he waited. Like he's telling me as we're walking into the restaurant, like I can't even do anything about it at this point.
00:08:22
Speaker
Like, and then I was, I sat there. Yeah. Like I sat there at dinner and it was all I could think about the whole time. I was like, who's looking at my back? Cause my hair is short. I can't even hide it behind my hair. i was like, my pimply ass back is out here in this restaurant.
00:08:41
Speaker
that this These people behind me probably can't even eat their dinner. Cause they're staring at my pimply back. Like.
00:08:50
Speaker
ah Yeah. I was distraught. I was distraught. I wish I could be supportive right now. as but It's fine. It's in the past. It's in the past. And I guess what? I haven't had pimply back such. And I guess I would say all I did was I got a body wash with like sicylic acid in it and it cleared right up and it was fine. But ah yeah, it was it was something.
00:09:14
Speaker
Oh, that's so funny. Your poor back. You know, I got lucky that I didn't have that. Like the nicknames that could have like ensued. i could have been back knee growing up.
00:09:24
Speaker
Like that could have been my nickname. Yeah. No. whoa Whoa. Dodged a bullet. Yeah. who i yeah I am like...
00:09:38
Speaker
Yeah. And it's crazy. Like that didn't happen at all with Evie's pregnancy. Like it was just such a different experience. I don't know. My body really good during Evie's and I was jealous and I was like, couldn't be me. I looked worse with Margo.
00:09:51
Speaker
I look like i I did have the experience of like looking at my well not all the time but I remember like I had a baby shower literally a month before I had Evie like a little sprinkle you know there and no um what there for Alice's sorry Yeah. And um it was like, I look back at those pictures and I was like, damn, I look good. I was in a body con dress, a sweater body con dress. And I was like, looking good.
00:10:24
Speaker
So anyways, how did we get to back me? Speaking of body image. Yes. Speaking of body image, which is our app today. Yeah.
00:10:35
Speaker
We were going to just chat about body image and how the summer can sometimes like fuck with your brain and just... feeling insecure or confident, whichever you feel like in the summertime comparison, all the things.

Evolving Body Image Perspectives

00:10:54
Speaker
That was a great transition. Um, I'm sorry. not' so funnyy I feel like I've definitely told that story on this podcast before. I do not remember you ever saying that.
00:11:09
Speaker
Yep.
00:11:11
Speaker
I will say, though, anyhow I remember like go last year going into summer and like feeling better because remember, we like locked the fuck in. We groundhogged. But I didn't I don't feel the same insecurity that I did last year.
00:11:26
Speaker
um Maybe it's because I'm like further away. i don't know, further away from like being postpartum or whatever. what, like, I don't feel like I've changed that much since last year. It's not like I've lost a lot of weight. it's not like I gained a lot of weight. i'm like kind of maintained, but I feel maybe like less pressure. Cause I had a whole summer in the pool, which I was so nervous about having all my friends over seeing me in a bikini all the time. Like who's concentrating on me? No one, but myself. Um, so this year, I i don't know. I just feel like a little more whatever,
00:12:03
Speaker
Like who cares? and just want to have fun. i feel the exact same way for sure. I think I said this in our voice notes that we sent this morning, but I have this mentality about my body right now that it's just like, it's out of my control. Like no matter how much I work out or how much weight I lose, like there's a lot I just can't change unless I were to have like plastic surgery or something because I've had two kids, like my stomach, it's saggy McGee, my tits, saggy McGee. Like they, it just is what it is.
00:12:40
Speaker
Um, and so I just kind of have this mentality of like, I am going to love this body that, like has given me my two kids and it's out of my control at this point. What I care more about, honestly, is wearing things that feel good on my body. Like wearing, if I try to like squeeze into something that doesn't fit me or like, I just would never like put myself in a bikini. Like that's just asking for me to feel insecure, you know? yeah
00:13:14
Speaker
So wearing things that feel good also also just ah like feeling strong as cliche as that sounds, but like really doing burn bootcamp and like lifting more weights. And like, I just feel, strong I feel stronger than I did last summer. Last summer I lost a lot of weight and like we locked in last July and I really, I've probably, I ah haven't weighed myself in a while. So like, I don't know how much I've gained. I definitely have gained probably a little bit, like not more than like five pounds.
00:13:49
Speaker
pounds, 10 pounds, maybe. But i feel so much stronger this summer. Like my arms are more toned. Like my legs feel stronger. So I feel like that's what I care about more is just like feeling strong and like wearing things that like feel good. And I care less about like the state of my like body. I don't know if that makes sense. Yeah. but Maybe that's what I'm feeling as well, because I've been doing F45 since December and I feel like I'm in shape now. Like i literally this morning went to like, it's like a river walk path and i like ran a mile and a half and then I just stopped and I wasn't even breathing hard. i was like, wow, I haven't
00:14:37
Speaker
done that in a while. And the fact that I wasn't like, I was like, oh my God, my endurance is back. Like, i don't know something about that. i was just like, oh, I'm feeling strong and athletic again. And like I said, it's not like I've like gained weight, lost weight. And like, actually I think F45 is helping me maintain it all while I'm still like enjoying beverage knows and the food. yeah So like, thank God for that. But I don't know. It's just like a completely different feeling. I think last year i was putting a lot of pressure on perfection. Like I was in this, like, I have to lose weight. We're groundhogging. Like I want to be like, I want to feel the hottest I've ever felt. Like I put this like pressure on myself when
00:15:21
Speaker
it doesn't i don't have to be like the hottest fucking thing that walks in a room i just want to be like happy and feel good and i don't know i just don't don't feel the same pressure on myself that i put on myself last year i guess Yeah. No, I 100% agree. I feel the same way.
00:15:40
Speaker
That being said, like, I, I think that body image is like a wave a little bit. Like there are times I feel really good and I'm feeling strong and like, I love my outfit and I'm like, hell yeah, girl. And then there are times where the wave is low and I'm like, oh, I feel ick.
00:15:58
Speaker
I look ick. I'm an ogre. Like whatever. And I think something I've gotten better at is like riding that wave and not letting any of those two things like the the high or the low like affect me as much as I used to. yeah.
00:16:16
Speaker
I feel like especially the lows, like I used to get, be really hard on myself or you know, it would catapult me into this like all or nothing thinking of like, ah I'm never drinking again. I'm never eating cheese again in my life. And I just couldn't feel farther from that. I genuinely like give myself more grace. And I don't really know if that's like age, if I'm just like getting older. i think that there's also something to be said about surrounding myself with women who are also in the same phase of life as as a mom. And like, I'm not surrounded by a bunch of like Pilates, 20 year old girlies. Like, you know, i am, most of my friends are moms or are trying to be moms. And like, we all have real bodies. And I will say like, I am pretty
00:17:07
Speaker
how do I say this? Like strict on social media. Like I don't like to follow people that make me feel like shit. If I find myself comparing myself to someone who is like unrealistic and like, like I will unfollow you to protect my own mental health. yeah Um,
00:17:26
Speaker
So and that's on growth. okay I was going to say like i you saying it's a wave like I literally did that on the girls trip. Like one day I took like this fab picture where I was like, oh, my God, I look so tan and and I look so cute. And then and then one picture I'd be on the end and I looked like 500 pounds.
00:17:44
Speaker
And I was like, oh, my God, is that what I look like today? And I literally was like it was like a mental like like wave. Exactly. But then, you know, like before I probably would have been super down on myself, but I was like, but no, I looked hot yesterday. it was just the angle. Like, i yeah like you you know, you just got to like stop being so hard on yourself and stop beating yourself up. And like, it turned out like all the girls on the trip felt that certain way about a certain picture. Like all were feeling the same way. It was like, not everyone like loved every single picture they were in. So it kind of like made me, it was like a
00:18:18
Speaker
oh, like we're all just like looking at ourselves. but yeah you know It's so funny, but I don't know. And gosh, what was going to say about um growth, how you were saying that. Oh, I was going to say sometimes I'll get in that like panic headspace if I fluctuate like really high, if I've gained a lot of weight back. And right now I just feel like like I said, I've maintained. So I don't feel that panic of where I'm like treating myself or like during the week, I really am going to work out really hard. going eat decent. And on the weekends, I'm going to just like let myself enjoy. So don't know. I just think I've found a balance. Like I think I'll always ride that wave, but I'm more into like a balanced state. And I don't know, summer, you just, you're allowed to have like
00:19:08
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. And like, also that's the mom that I want my kids to remember. Like I want them to remember me like diving in the pool, like a mermaid or like, you know, me running around the beach or like sitting in the sand with them and not worrying about like, if my like stomach is hanging over my bathing suit, like,
00:19:33
Speaker
I want them to remember, um the, like I was there and I was in my bathing suit and I loved every moment with them. So i don't, yeah. And that means so much more to me than like looking perfect in a bikini now.
00:19:49
Speaker
Right. You know? Right. Right. Exactly. um And I think we were going to talk about like ways that make us personally feel better about this and like how to like, don't know, correct that feeling of like, oh my gosh, doom and gloom. Yeah. especially in the summer um like for me like one thing like other I see other people like taking beach pics with their kids and like in bikinis and this and that and it's like for me personally that's a no like what like I think it's so cute and lovely but i I know that that will rain on my parade and I just don't want to do it so I just don't and that's okay I don't have to have a fucking picture of me in a bikini on the beach with my kids
00:20:34
Speaker
Nope, you don't. You don't. And i think when you like let go of those expectations you you are like you're opening yourself up to so much more happiness. It's like, it's the pressure that you put on yourself from like looking at what other people are doing. but other It's the comparison. Uh-huh. All of it.
00:20:56
Speaker
Yeah. All of it.

Confidence-Boosting Tips

00:20:59
Speaker
I know, i feel, the i don't know if this is like cliche. I guess it's very, a very me answer, but like, Just taking care of myself and doing things that make me feel like beautiful is like my answer here. And for me, that is always going to be a self-tan.
00:21:19
Speaker
it like yeah just is. yeah like ah An at-home self-tan, spray tan, whatever-you-want tan, a gradual tanner every day on your skin, whatever. a tan just makes me feel so much more confident.
00:21:32
Speaker
It makes me more likely to reach for the denim shorts in my closet, like all of that stuff. And then like doing my hair and makeup, like just feeling cute, looking cute. Even if we are like going to the pool, even just like,
00:21:47
Speaker
putting on a little bit of blush and like some tinted lip balm and like a cute hat. I'm like, Oh, I'm the cute mom at the pool. Like even if I'm not, you know, I don't have to have a perfect body to be the cute mom at the pool.
00:22:01
Speaker
no And Oh my gosh, the spray tan. i got one before my trip. I was so dark. It was a different race. Like I texted you and I was like, you are so dark.
00:22:13
Speaker
Everyone was like, Oh my God. And I was like, I know I went a little overboard because I'm i'm already so tan. And then I was like, man, I got to spray tan before I went to the beach with all my friends from here in Nashville. i was like, I'm going to do it again, except like I'm like 10 times darker already. i was so tan on this trip. Like, and I felt like a million bucks. Like, I'm not gonna lie. i was just like,
00:22:40
Speaker
everyone was Everyone was like, um we did not get the memo. We were spray tanning. Holy moly. Well, you also, like, you have naturally, like, tanned skin for sure. Yeah.
00:22:53
Speaker
So for you to get a spray tan, it's like you were dark, baby. Yeah. My hair looked like it was neon yellow. was like, oh no, I went too far.
00:23:05
Speaker
Like you, I am the Cuban one and you look Cuban and I do not. My family just gets so dark. Like I literally looked like my sister's tan. Like my sister gets like, she's the tannest one in the family. Oh my God. I looked like how tan she gets.
00:23:21
Speaker
Oh my God. I actually will never forget that. Mackenzie sent me a photo of your sister once and it was just of her feet. I think she was showing off her shoes and Mackenzie was like, this is a black woman's feet.
00:23:34
Speaker
She's been told that her whole life. Literally natural. Like I'm not kidding. That's crazy. She's literally been told that her whole life. She has my dad's skin. She is so oily, like, which I think that's why her face looks like so good, but she was very acne, back knee girl are growing up still to this day. Like she's just an oily person, but The son loves her.
00:24:01
Speaker
Like, oh, my God. Like a French fry. She's a piece of bacon. but So, yeah. Anyway. But, yeah, if you're feeling insecure, a self-tan can really like, if you're feeling like you're a five, it'll take you to an eight.
00:24:19
Speaker
You know, a lot of times I'll just do like the face drops, um which we've talked about. And yeah, man, it just makes you look like put together a little bit.
00:24:30
Speaker
Yeah. The other thing I will say is that if you are feeling not confident in the swimsuits you have at home, like it's time to buy you a new swimsuit. Okay. It's, it will change your experience out in the wild in a swimsuit. Like, So I was going to say like Somersault is amazing.
00:24:51
Speaker
like I have two new ones from them that I'm obsessed with. i have two from them as well. I've had them probably since I just had Graydon and they have held up and I i still like pull for them every yeah every week.
00:25:06
Speaker
And honestly, Target has don't sleep on Target, okay? i feel like they have some really good swimsuits recently. um Anything with ruching is, like, so flattering. That one I have with, like, ruching on the sides is, like, so flattering and And snatches me to the gods. um And then there's a couple of brands at Nordstrom that I really like. um Beach Riot. But you got to be careful with Beach Riot because you can somehow you can sometimes end up in cheeky land. So you got there's like specific cuts of Beach Riot that are so good.
00:25:42
Speaker
um So if you want to know those exact ones, just message me on Instagram. I'll tell you the ones I have that I really love. um I just got one from Monkeys in Mount Pleasant that I really like. And the brand is Lim Lim.
00:25:57
Speaker
Have you heard of that? oh I haven't. It's so pretty. Like the pattern is so pretty and it fits like it's a tube top, but it also has like a strap that goes around your neck. And so you can like take it on and off, whatever. But it just fits like not...
00:26:11
Speaker
It's so tight. I don't know. It fits like almost a little loose. so I feel like comfortable in it, if that makes sense. Like, I yeah i don't know. It's not so like somersault and tuck in. And I don't know. It's just a little looser.
00:26:25
Speaker
And I got a large. So I'm like, I didn't oversize it. I don't know. It just fits nice. And I was like, oh, my God, am I skinny? right is it But that's another thing on swimsuits.
00:26:38
Speaker
And this is a comparison game that I have with myself is i just don't think I will also ever wear a two piece again until I get a tummy tuck. If or ever I get one, like, I don't know if it's in the cards for me, but I would love one.
00:26:57
Speaker
I keep, I'm never going to be how I was in high school when I was 18, 19 years old. Like I can't compare myself to like that anymore. Like I have to just like stay firm in what I am today. And and like you said, buy the new swimsuits, make yourself feel better. Stop trying to squeeze into old shit.
00:27:20
Speaker
It just is not going to help. Yeah. Not at all. And I am also a proponent of like the same thing with clothes. Like go and buy yourself a new dress that you love for summer or so like if you're someone who because this is like a a situation or not a like a scenario that I find myself in often. Like for example We get invited to like a lot of barbecues in the summer. I know that. And like, I remember last summer being like, I feel like I have nothing to put on for these barbecues. Like a throw on. Yeah. You want something to throw on.
00:28:00
Speaker
Yeah. Something that I genuinely love. I look cute in. If we take a picture at this barbecue, great. Like, and if you don't have something, like if you, if there's a recurring scenario where you're like, I have nothing to wear for this, whether that's girls night or a date night, Like it's time to treat yourself to a new outfit, something you feel really confident in.
00:28:20
Speaker
Like it's time to take yourself shopping. And that will significantly change your mood if you do that. You're right, I feel like I have a lot of like, um like a date night outfits, which I don't do a ton. And I don't have like that midday pull the dress.
00:28:37
Speaker
It's sweltering, smoldering outside. Like I need more of those. So I'm inspired. i should go shopping. Yeah, you should. Um, I actually have the itch right now cause I have still have gift cards to anthro and I, did I tell you about how I had to hassle Abercrombie and Fitch to give me a refund?
00:29:00
Speaker
No. Well, I'm going to spill the tea on Abercrombie and Fitch. Um, I placed an order. i ordered some things, whatever.
00:29:12
Speaker
like, I get it. I missed the return window, but I missed the return window by one day. Okay. had They have a 30 day return policy and then it's like non, they won't even give you store credit, nothing.
00:29:24
Speaker
And I took my ass to the mall and tried to return it. They were like, you're past the return window. and i was like, you've got to be fucking kidding me. It's one day. Like, and they the guy was like, I'm so sorry. There's nothing I can do. The best, your best bet is to contact someone online and see if they'll like refund you. Yeah. So I did. they They told me no again. And I used ChatGBT to negotiate the shit out of it and like try to get them to refund me. And they finally did. um So I have like a $250 gift card to Abercrombie I need to use. So. What did chat say?
00:30:01
Speaker
It was like just telling me like to reiterate that I'm such a loyal customer and like, cause I do, I shop there a lot. Like I have a lot of Abercrombie stuff and, um and I, and if you look at my profile, like I've shopped there a ton. i'm like, come on one day. Like, I mean, it was just me. Like, I think it's like, if you, know if you just hassle them enough they'll do it you know um but i was like annoyed i'm like god i'm spending so much time but i want my 250 back so yeah and they're really fighting hard to keep 250 like y'all okay abercrombie y'all good and it's like it was annoying
00:30:40
Speaker
um But yeah, I have the shopping itch and we leave on Saturday. So I'm like, maybe I'll just go get a couple of new things for my trip. You deserve it. It's so fun to shop for a trip and that's another thing. Oh my gosh. Nothing makes you feel better than having new clothes on vacation. Like even if it's just one thing and you know it's your first time wearing it and you're going to feel so pretty in it, like Nothing better.
00:31:05
Speaker
Yeah, there's nothing better. I thought I was going to buy like lots of clothes in Palm Beach, but whoa, out of the price range. I was like, well really well i was like where all the little like clothing boutiques? But everything was like so fancy designer yeah and i was like okay so it's not that kind of trip okay so I didn't buy any clothes but I was ready yeah I was like you know I would think there would be like cute little like boutiques and stuff no not where we went I mean I'm sure there has got to be but like there wasn't anywhere we were
00:31:41
Speaker
Everything was like Zimmerman or yeah um who what else? Stodd was there and yeah. um Love shack fancy. Like it was all just like, okay, this is a lot.
00:31:53
Speaker
I don't want to buy any of that. so Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um, what else, what else makes me feel more confident?

Community and Body Image

00:32:03
Speaker
Oh, I would just say like surrounding yourself with people that I think I've already said, did I already say this? Like just surrounding yourself with people who like are kind of in the same boat. I'm not saying you can't, if you have a super fit, amazing, like friend, I'm not saying don't hang with them. I'm just saying that like, Hey, and you're making me feel bad about myself. Thanks. Yeah, no, but like, I do feel like surrounding myself with women who are like in the same phase of life, like does, does well for my brain and my body image for sure. Yeah. Yeah. um I would say, well, yes, I agree. And we all, all my friends here are, but they're all us also like pretty freaking fit. So good for them. Love that.
00:32:44
Speaker
Love this journey. um I'd to say for me, obviously, like I love doing my hair every day and I like it to look nice and stuff. So that makes me feel better every day.
00:32:58
Speaker
for body image um and for work like you remember i used to never be like a jeans girl or a shorts girl i rock jeans to work all the time now i wore jeans two days in a row on our girls trip and i don't care if i have bigger legs like i was rocking it and i was just like don't get you looked amazing every picture i saw of you looked amazing and I'm just happy to be wearing them and not burning up.
00:33:26
Speaker
Like i yeah just have always been so hard on myself and I'm over it. yeah Yeah. Good. I'm glad. and Catch me on my next wave.
00:33:38
Speaker
Yeah, I know. we're at the We're at the top of the wave right now. We're crusting. We'll let you know next time we're on the bottom. I'll be there in December when I'm pale. That's okay. That's what self-tan is for. I remember there was a picture of me in February and I was like, who oh my God, this is my ugly phase. Like get me out of here. And then all of a sudden it was March and I was like I'm back. I'm back. You're back. there Just need a little tan.
00:34:05
Speaker
The sun. All you need is the sun. February was dark. Yeah. The other thing I will say is Well, no, I take it back. That's not.

TV Shows and Lighthearted Stories

00:34:18
Speaker
Can I like bring up one random, like this is off topic, but pop culture thing. Um, yeah. Have you been watching real housewives of Rhode Island?
00:34:28
Speaker
No, it's a banger. And I'm not just saying that because I live there. Like, It's really freaking good.
00:34:39
Speaker
I've heard a lot of people talk about it and I, I've fallen off of housewives. I don't watch any of them anymore. right So I, it's my like little lunchtime treat when I work from home, I'll i'll throw on like whatever is on Bravo that I missed.
00:34:53
Speaker
And I was like, Oh, I'll just do it. I literally didn't start watching it until there was already like six episodes out. There's a lot. There's like 15. I turned it on and it was like a slow burn. And then It is good. it is so Okay, maybe I'll watch that today during ah lunch because I started to watch Love Island. I was like, I'm going to be with the crowd this summer.
00:35:19
Speaker
I watched six episodes and I can't. I cannot anymore. I'm already like nine days behind now. Like, it's on every day. It's a full fucking time job. I do not have the time to do that. And also, i found it.
00:35:33
Speaker
so difficult to watch. Like, and you guys know, like, I am not a prude. Okay. I am probably like, I'm a very sexual person. Okay. But I watched that show and I am fucking clutching my pearls. Okay.
00:35:49
Speaker
It is so nasty and like, so sexual, like so overtly, these people literally just met each other. All they know is each other's names and they're all making out with each other and spitting in each other's mouths. It's disgusting.
00:36:05
Speaker
It's too much. It is too much. And i I can no longer deal. And also the conversations these people have, I love them so much, but like they like no brain cells. There's nothing, there's nothing going on up here and I can't do it anymore. So anyways, I'm leaving Love Island behind. i tried. i can't do it. I'm too old and too prude, I guess. know. Everyone was saying that, that they're like, I can't do it this summer.
00:36:32
Speaker
It's so bad. It's so bad. Like it's not, if I don't have a lot of free time and I'm not spending it on something bad. So anyways, I'm going to switch to Rhode Island today when I eat lunch. I'll watch that. Oh, yay. Okay. You're going to be like, who is who? Everyone looks the same, but now I can tell them apart. The only one I know is Ashley because of Bachelor. Yeah.
00:36:52
Speaker
And she's kind of boring on the show. not gonna lie. Well, I'm excited. I heard about her and her husband's stuff. So I was kind of excited see that. He seems really sweet. Like I didn't watch Bachelor or Bachelorette or whatever they were on. Like he seems like really cute.
00:37:08
Speaker
He is sweet. has a good of personality. Yeah. Yeah. Man, they had a tough start though. who oh did they? i wouldn't know. Yeah, she literally, he she stalked him and was like obsessed. And he kept telling her, no, I don't love you. No, no, no, no, no. Until finally one day he was like, fine, I guess. And now they're married. you Oh, shit.
00:37:29
Speaker
Yeah. she was like obsessed and he would literally like on tv look at her and be like i do not love you like please stop and she would not she was relentless and finally they just like finally got together it was so crazy that's bizarre yeah it was crazy That's why when when they got together, they were like, girl, are you sure? like you had to beg for this man's love for real. That's so interesting. Yeah. I mean, it doesn't. I mean, they have two super little kids on the show, so it's not like they're love, but they're like going through it they' in the trenches. Yeah. Yeah.
00:38:12
Speaker
you know, they'll be fine. well I'm excited. I'm going to watch. I'm going to make my yummy lunch. I can't stop thinking about it. Yeah. I hope you like it. It's kind of fun to like, see all the places. The very last episode, um, they went to block Island and I was like, Oh, fun, jealous. It's like so fun there. And it's just like fun seeing them go all the places. um Where I lived, ah I watched ah Calabasas Confidential.
00:38:38
Speaker
Also. What's that? i suppose It's like um these kids that- What show is that on? It's in on Netflix. Or what channel? It was just another like busy bee, like get me through lunch thing.
00:38:52
Speaker
these people i was telling my sister-in-law Jenny i was like these people are like 21 years old and I'm like they you like I don't like talk about like generations being different but I was like this generation is different like oh my god like they are so interesting it's like one of the sons of um Larsa Pippin or Scotty Pippin oh yeah yeah And Jordan Woods' sisters on the show. and then it's just like other like rich kids in Calabasas. So they all just got out of college and they are all back in Calabasas. They're all influencers. So they have like millions of followers and it's fucking kind of weird. I don't know. Damn, that sounds kind of interesting. Well, that's like Vinny and I watch Next Gen NYC on Bravo, which is like also that same thing.
00:39:39
Speaker
Same thing. And these kids are just like, wow. They're too young for me. I think i like the youngest I should watch is like 27-year-olds.
00:39:51
Speaker
Anything like below that, I'm like, ooh, I'm not registering. like oh ho What are you saying? It's like honestly kind of crazy. The things they were fighting about, I'm like, I literally was in my head going, like grow up. This is so dumb. Yeah.
00:40:07
Speaker
Yeah. I don't know. Damn. Well, I'm excited for lunch now. I mean, I was already excited for lunch because I'm starving, but I am excited to now sit down and watch that show, especially because the rest of the work I have to do today is like super busy work. So i can like kind of watch while i do my busy And it's a new series. So it's like you're starting from ground zero. Like, oh, my God. Finn just farted so bad. Like it hit me in the face over here. oh no, I'm sorry. Oh,
00:40:37
Speaker
Wow. That was so stinky. Holy shit.
00:40:43
Speaker
Oh my God. Hold on. I just have to say one thing. um We went to the, concert to the Noah concert with my friend, Andrea, who's a vet and she has a Frenchie that she like rescued at 10 weeks. And she was making Hannah and I cackle at dinner talking about this Frenchie. His name's cannoli
00:41:03
Speaker
And he apparently is like riddled with health issues. Like the reason he she rescued him is he was like ah like left at the vet. Like he was left at the vet because he choked on a pill. That's like how all of his troubles started. like choked on a pill. and he got fluid in his lungs it was like really bad and yeah apparently he's just like anything that could be wrong with a dog and a frenchie like is wrong with him and she was making us laugh so hard talking about him she's so funny she was like every day is a blessing for cannoli and now every time i look at my frenchies i like giggle thinking about her talking about that's so so funny yeah love it
00:41:49
Speaker
All right. Well, I'm excited to be in a bathing suit in Lake Tahoe.

Closing Remarks and Encouragement

00:41:55
Speaker
