Commemorating the Munich Air Disaster

00:00:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
England's finest football team, its record truly great. Its proud success is marked by a cruel turn of fate. Eight men will never play again, who met destruction there. The flowers of English football, the flowers of Manchester. That poem was sent anonymously in October 1958 into a folk magazine called Sing.
00:00:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
The words were printed but no music accompanied it apart from a note saying that it was to the tune of High Germany. And the reason we start today's episode of Daily Premier League in English for Global Sports Podcast Network this way is because of course so to commemorate the anniversary of the Munich Air Disaster that took the lives of 23 people and which most of them were basically the very important figures in Manchester, United at the time, of course, they might best be babes. That happened 67 years ago and well, I'm Michael Tarniecki, based in California. I'm joined by Ishan, l LA, California.
00:01:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah <unk>an i'm I'm afraid I'm not qualified enough to ask you about the Mad Busby boys because we were not alive at the time and did that happened a long time ago.
00:01:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah But it's actually pretty important for my United Fence to remember about the victims of this aircrush raid.
00:01:29
Eshan
Yeah, I think it's it's super important to remember our past and remember the culture of the club. When Sir Alex Ferguson came into Man United, he this the Munich Air Disaster and the Busby Babes were a cornerstone of his ideology because it's respecting where we come from.
00:01:47
Eshan
and To see a team, like i obviously we didn't see it and our grandfathers probably saw it, but see a team come from the brink of disaster and then within 10 years win it like a European ah Cup. It's quite an incredible achievement and I think yeah I forgot the the name of the Brazilian team that i happened to in 2017, but that it like decimates a team when something like this tragic happens because the way that Bobby Charlton used to talk about it is he'd like see their shadows in the halls and stuff and
00:02:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm.
00:02:28
Eshan
it's It's a tragedy, but the best thing we can do each year is to remember remember them um and respect where we come from.
00:02:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly so, because that was basically one of the best sights in English football and so many ah talented footballers lost their lives that day. So it is our duty to remember for our generation and for ah future generations to come.
00:02:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
So now that we commemorated the victims in our podcast, I'm sure that folks at Daily Manchester United also did the same, but since we are Man United fans, we couldn't help but just take this opportunity.
00:03:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
So now that that's out of the way, let's focus on what happened ah during the the tie, semi-final tie, second legs of the Carabao Cup.
00:03:11
Eshan
Mm?
00:03:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
We will not be talking about the Liverpool game. That will be covered by our um other podcasters here at Daily Premier League in English, so we highly encourage you to listen to that.

Newcastle's Victory Over Arsenal

00:03:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
But we will focus on the other game, which was Newcastle United taking on Arsenal or St James's Park, a game in which, to be honest, out of those two ties, I thought that in that game we could actually see the comeback which was never seen before in English football history, ah for a team going 2-0 down at home, ah doing a remontada, as the Spaniards would call it, and just go back after this 2-0 defeat away.
00:03:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Well, Arsenal failed to do that, and well, Ishan, why did that happen? What did Eddie Howe did in this?
00:04:09
Eshan
Well, Newcastle have not won a trophy for I think 53 years or something crazy like that.
00:04:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
What did he do in this game for? No.
00:04:17
Eshan
where And you think back to like the Kevin Keegan side where they were like, was it 11 points clear or 12 points clear of the of United? And then somehow it choked it.
00:04:29
Eshan
Newcastle fans have been crying out for a cup final, crying out for a cup final victory. um Even if Eddie's house team doesn't go on to win the...
00:04:41
Eshan
It's a tall order now against Liverpool. If they don't go on to win, there's still legends in Newcastle fans' eyes.
00:04:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:04:49
Eshan
The past few weeks has all been building up to this moment. After Arsenal um succumbed to the wonderful Isaac performance at the Emirates, Newcastle have had two consecutive home losses. Bournemouth, which frankly Bournemouth fantastic win, but Fulham, which less fantastic win, more of a gritty display it from Fulham.
00:05:12
Eshan
I think ah lot both of those performance because performances can be attributed to focusing on this. I think their season is built around a cup victory. I think they know how much the fans relish the victory.
00:05:28
Eshan
And there's ah there was a lot of talk before the game saying like, oh, is this a good time for Arsenal to play Newcastle?
00:05:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:05:34
Eshan
But there was no way that Newcastle were going to drop the ball. There was no way. Perhaps if Arsenal, um ah the first half, I don't know. Odegard had a chance, smacked the post, straight away went down the other end and scored. There are little moments of luck perhaps that like push a team to victory and you need those in football. People forget that as much control as you can have, if somebody slices ah a shot top corner, they didn't mean it, it doesn't matter, it went in.
00:06:08
Eshan
That's the slice of luck that some teams get and some teams don't. And I think Nuke also had preparation. um St. James Park had like the fans are right on top of you. So you had that. And they got the luck to make sure that Arsenal didn't even get a foothold into the game.
00:06:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah and also a lot of expert point but experts pointed out the starting lineups will be maybe maybe not particularly any personal choices but I'm talking about their lineup in defense because they decided to well someone would say to park the bus but they did it in such a way that Arsenal basically the only reason Arsenal conceded those goals those two goals was because of their own defensive mistakes.
00:06:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
So basically, apart from those two goals, which happened on the end of David Raya, ah Dubravka, yes, he did have to make some says because Arsenal, they were still creating some chances, but they were super predictable. And Eddie Howe knew that perfectly well. And that's why he put those five people those so five defenders at the back. And it worked because Arsenal, they either couldn't even get to the penalty box or even if they did, they were wasteful.
00:07:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, masterclass by Eddy Howe.
00:07:20
Eshan
Agreed, agreed. um I think there's a massive, massive difference between parking the bus and being defensively solid, and I think this is a great example of being defensively solid. um I think what also helps is when you have wing backs, like Kieron Trippier has not played that much this season. People like don't understand the psychology of being a starter who's not starting. It's very hard form to perform to the levels.
00:07:45
Eshan
and yet we saw him slamming at Arsenal players, jeering up the crowd the whole game, getting the Newcastle fans singing his name. you know theres There's something really to be said for being defensively solid and having the concentration and the know-how to manage out a game like that because Yes, this is an Arsenal team that perhaps is on, ah like, it's not the prime Arsenal team. You don't have Saka on the right wing. I feel like Saka makes a massive difference. But this is also an Arsenal team that is fresh off a 5-1 victory versus Man City. You know, it's not no joke. Yes, they got a Martinelli injury in the first half, but still, this is there are plenty of quality in that squad.
00:08:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh yeah, and just sorry to interrupt you there. I'm just looking at those three, the set of center backs from this game for Newcastle. Fabian Schär, Sven Bortmann, Dan Byrne. And wherever you look, especially to the stats of ground duels and aerial duels, they were absolutely superior.
00:08:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
I guess the the the biggest maybe not upset but like I've got the biggest respect towards Dan Burns performance just please guys like look up his statistics ah um after this game against Arsenal ground duels four of them all of them won all of them aerial duels three of them also won them all basically yeah Arsenal front
00:09:13
Eshan
Well, he is 6'6", so I should hope he should win the aerial drool.
00:09:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Obviously, but of course, there's what okay there's one so thing when you have the pre disposition to to win those aerial duels, but then you have to go out on that pitch and actually do it, and he only went and did it.
00:09:25
Eshan
Yeah.
00:09:28
Eshan
Exactly.
00:09:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow, I mean...
00:09:30
Eshan
This is a great performance.
00:09:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
i superb, superb performance, not to mention that Isaac was again, maybe he wasn't as ah visible as he was a month ago, on the first like a day Emirates, but it doesn't mean that he was, ah was or he was dragging the team down.
00:09:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely not. He was also crucial to this story.
00:09:50
Eshan
i I would argue argue that this is just as good a performance in the way that he didn't have much touches on the ball and he still made the decisive difference. That first goal that Newcastle got settled the nerves of the entire crowd.
00:10:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm hmm.
00:10:04
Eshan
for for now as like Coming back from 2-0 down is so different from coming back from three goals down. cause once Once they got that first goal, Newcastle could like really take the gas off of the brakes and could only they they only have to go forward when it's absolutely necessary.
00:10:22
Eshan
And it showed, it showed.
00:10:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm hmm.
00:10:23
Eshan
So, wonderful touch from Isak to go around Soliba, just stick his leg out there. Saliba and Gabrielle, you know, I think the reason that they hate Isaac so much and why it's so hard to play against him is despite his like intense figure and what you would think about his physicality because he's he can use his physicality, but that's not his game. His game is agility and getting around people and that's a nightmare for somebody who just wants to be in a physical battle.
00:10:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh yeah, definitely. So with that being said, ah I guess it was the the quote of Eddie Howe after the game, that ah the Newcastle playing in that kind of shape, they could easily take on any Premier League team. And it could be kind of cheek like it could be perceived as kind of kind of like a cheeky statement. But with that kind of defensive ah defensive display, when they were absolutely superb, who knows? Maybe maybe it is true.
00:11:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Maybe Newcastle could create a couple more upsets this season.
00:11:27
Eshan
Yeah, the top quality I would not doubt that at all. I think that this is the quality of the Premier League is that we can have a side like Newcastle that can really go toe to toe with anybody. But we also have Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest, like these these sides that have relatively low budgets compared to the top and are competing very much so.
00:11:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, right. Yeah. And well, I guess we can just wish Newcastle all the best in the final against Liverpool. Well, and what ah what we just said there about and end up at that statement of anyhow about Newcastle being able to take on any at Premier League team, it will be able to be put to the test because in March at Wembley Stadium Newcastle will take on Liverpool. How did Liverpool clinch that victory against Tottenham?
00:12:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
After being one goal, one nil down after the first leg, tune in to our friends who did the review at the daily Premier League in English. So we're going to do a little short break and then we will move on to the FA Cup ties because this is forecast Friday. Of course, we're going to get to some forecasting and prediction. So the thing that as we actually discussed probably before we went on air, this is something that experts love talking about. And we're going to explain that soon. But now this.
00:13:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
And just like that, we're moving on to FA Cup ties because this weekend we do not have Premier League eri because said the best league of the world needs to give way to one of the oldest cup competitions in the world, which is, of course, the FA Cup. Do not underestimate the f FA Cup, as the BBC Sports campaign once said. So we've got a lot of games ahead. And I guess since we are Man United fans, we can't help but talk about the upcoming game.
00:13:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah that the Red Devils will have against Leicester City. So, what is your prediction there, Mr Ishaan?
00:13:49
Eshan
Um, well, we saw this earlier in the season where in the Carabao Cup and the Premier League, Ruud van Nesteroy had a week to her face Leicester City i with United twice. And now we're seeing him come back.
00:14:06
Eshan
ah with Lesser City. ah Crazy times. um I think it'll be much more of a stern test this time.
00:14:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
absolutely
00:14:15
Eshan
um Although Rude rud has not done a mind-bending job at Lesser City, they're still hard to play against. They're still trying to win second balls.
00:14:26
Eshan
there's still um going after everything and United aren't in good form. It's to say the least, right? Especially losing, um, Los Angeles Martinez. I think we're, it's going to get worse before it gets better. Um, that being said, um, I think it'll be a decent victory. How about you? Okay. What do you think?
00:14:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, I really have my doubts, especially after ah seeing the highlights of the performance that Man United had, unfortunately, at Old Trafford against Crystal Palace.
00:14:56
Eshan
Oh,
00:14:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
That was just... ah like somebody I think one of the commentators said that Crystal Palace loves ah like coming to Old Trafford, because every single tie they do, they snatch three points, and then the Red Devils are left with just nothing but a puddle of their own tears, and big question marks of what the hell that went wrong.
00:15:05
Eshan
yeah
00:15:09
Eshan
yeah yeah yeah i think your youtube is fine with that
00:15:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Pardon and my French.
00:15:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think i I can say the age word, right? I think I can. I hope.
00:15:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Amazing. Thank you, YouTube. Love you so much. So, yeah, what you said there about the Lissandra Martinez, like cruciate ligament injury in his knee, and that basically rules him out of the entire season.
00:15:37
Eshan
Yeah.
00:15:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
And how how how much of a crucial blow is that to Man United offensive?
00:15:46
Eshan
Well, we've ah we've put down a couple of podcasts together. And I think every single podcast where we've talked about Man United, Lissandra Martinez has been in the conversation.
00:15:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm hmm.
00:15:55
Eshan
And for good reason. I think he's the perfect left-sided center back.
00:15:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm hmm.
00:15:59
Eshan
And we don't have cover, really. like We have other center backs that can play. But they're not specialized. They're not left footers. I think Luke Shaw would be a great addition.

Manchester United's Squad Concerns

00:16:10
Eshan
But apparently, he's had another injury complication.
00:16:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh.
00:16:13
Eshan
so It's gonna be even longer as till we see Luke Shaw back on the pitch. um The only hope is that we have like, Ms. Rowley, who's like, who can function there, but he's been playing on the right of the three if he plays in defense so Little nervous, little nervous. um we have I'm not so much worried about the defense as I am the attack now. I think while we have Ahmad and we have Garnaccio, I think that's it. I think this is the time that Ruben needs to call in the youth.
00:16:49
Eshan
i think um ah I forget his name Chidi, Obi Martin. He would be signing from Arsenal like a season ago. He's been this teenage sensation. I see no reason why we should be playing Kobe Minu in the false nine rather than playing like a youngster like that who can, he'll try he'll try his best. That's his opportunity. This is his chance. Like maybe he won't,
00:17:15
Eshan
fully absorb the system from day one, of course he won't. But I think this is the biggest weakness I see in United is the lack of cover we have up top, especially giving away Rashford and Anthony.
00:17:28
Eshan
So it's like we have scarce for numbers.
00:17:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, yeah. Yeah, and I mean, not not to mention that like the second I found out about Marcus Rushford's move on loan to Aston Villa, I just i got so mad and not because of the fact that I actually really, really wanted to and somehow ah get like, see Rushwood immediately in the starting lineup, because I knew that it wouldn't happen. It's just that such a potential wasted because of some differences, or maybe because of the fact that Ruben Amorim could not somehow ah include Marcus Rushford into his puzzle there, into his ah structure. And I'm sure that with such talent as Rushford, that would be possible. But Ruben Amorim instead decided to go for false nine of Coby Menu.
00:18:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
And just like you said, I have zero confidence that it will work. Yeah, ah bringing a youngster in could be a great opportunity for the youngster to to to present his skills, especially against the side of Leicester. And let's please, let's not forget what kind of an opponent Leicester City is. They are right now in relegation zone with 17 points and one win out of five last games.
00:18:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
if not if If not this game, if not this game to showcase the youth, then what other game? Do we really have to play against the League 1 or League 2 opposition for us to start bringing up the youth? Is that the case? I really do not understand that.
00:18:55
Eshan
No, I completely agree, I think. um If not now, then when.
00:19:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah And apparently I'm just looking at the predicted lineup that of Man United. Somebody predicts Ugarte to be starting in like alongside Bruno Fernandes in midfield with Maserawi and Dallow joining as the wingers, of course Garnaccio on the left and Dallow on the right.
00:19:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah We'll just see, I guess we're just gonna have to see and I hope that our Deafetism will be ah punished by Ruben Amorim's side and then we'll have all of the reasons to celebrate and to rejoice against, like after the victory against Leicester City, let's hope to all the Leicester City fans out there, you can hear our tone, you can hear that we are not as much optimists as we used to be.
00:19:45
Eshan
yeah there's definitely blood in the water here
00:19:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, so guys, if you like if if you get what I'm saying and if you get what i like what where overflow if you get where my mind is at right now at the moment, but go for the kill and let's see, maybe you'll get it. And yeah, there's there are always other competitions as the football classic goes. Oh my God.
00:20:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, no. Okay. All right. Enough about United Leicester. let's We will see how that goes. Let's move on to another game, which will be Brighton taking on Chelsea. um Following a 7-0 bashing against Nottingham Forest last Saturday, Brighton will hope to make amends and delight their supporters with an improved result and a win. And Chelsea on their part, well, they put a spirited performance against Western United on Monday to fight back from a gold deficit.
00:20:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
And they claimed a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge. Of course, we're talking about the ah cup tie. So who knows, maybe we will see some ah players from Chelsea that normally wouldn't star for a Premier League game. What is your feeling there about this game?
00:20:53
Eshan
I think that this is a good banana skin. I think Brighton could upset Chelsea. And I'll say upset very loosely because Brighton are a fantastic team. They play very front football, front football, and I don't think they'll switch up their lineup as much as Chelsea will.
00:21:16
Eshan
added to the fact that they just got beat 7-0, the fans at the Amex will, if Chelsea go 2-3 up real fast, the fans at the Amex will turn.
00:21:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:21:26
Eshan
even Even the best fans, after a 7-0 thrashing, you're not in the right headspace. The whole fanbase will be looking for something to latch onto.
00:21:37
Eshan
And so I think if it doesn't happen this game, it'll become maybe for a short time, maybe just this game, hopefully it doesn't continue. But I would be very surprised if we don't see a very, very strong, bright performance.
00:21:51
Eshan
Coupled with the fact that Chelsea have the biggest squad of maybe all time, they're going to be rotating. It's a guarantee.
00:21:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
always
00:22:00
Eshan
It's a guarantee.
00:22:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and I'm just taking a quick look at the lineups from the last game of of of Chelsea with Cole Palmer having a fantastic performance with his performance rated at 8 out of 10.
00:22:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Jadon Sancho and Madeweke playing on both of those on both sides of Cole Palmer with Nicholas Jackson as number nine. ah Well, finally, I guess we could say that Chelsea, of course, that was a slim win, but still, I think that the Chelsea fans deserved a better performance after the blunder that they made at at the Etihad Stadium. And I guess, so who knows, maybe Chelsea, of course,
00:22:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
like we said before, there's always room for some rotation because the season is longer. There are a lot of games in there. And I think English teams can attest to that and out of any other representatives of of football, of European football.
00:22:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah But yeah, I think still Chelsea could maintain the quality and they could go for the kill against Brighton, even though Brighton will be very motivated to get that good positive result. Would you agree with me?
00:23:06
Eshan
Yeah, no, it's gonna be um my second most interesting round, of um pick of the round, because both teams will be up for it.
00:23:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:23:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:23:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly. Oh, and actually, now that I look at them, actually, I just needed to recall just now, like, this is the game of Forestaking or Brighton, because of course I watched that game. I just, basically, like, it it was kind of like, you know, a long time ago, people, you know, have to move on to some other responsibilities. So, um they just needed to, I just needed to take a look again at the stats of of Brighton. And wow, I mean, this defense, they all received the marks below six.
00:23:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
5.1 Lamptey, 5.5 Dunk, 5.7 Van Hecke, 5.8 Veltman. That is a poor performance but then again like if you allow Nottingham forests a lot of space and you ah allow them to create the chances then you're just asking for trouble. but But I think we're sure that against Chelsea it's not going to be as open as speed of the Santo had last time around Brighton came out to the pitch.
00:24:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
So um what's your prediction there this call line? Just super quick.
00:24:15
Eshan
Um, I'm gonna say 3-1 Brighton.
00:24:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
3-1 Brighton. ah Well, I think I will go for Chelsea win of two goals against nothing on the Brighton side.
00:24:29
Eshan
Wow, interesting.
00:24:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Who knows? Yes, I will go. I will go. Who knows? We cannot agree on everything, Ishaan. Come on. I know that we remain United fans, but come on. We have to put some interesting parts of this podcast.
00:24:38
Eshan
It's okay. Disagreements make for better watching.
00:24:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly so.

FA Cup Match Previews

00:24:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
All right, so now that we have Brighton Chelsea taken care of, now we can move on to a pretty big one, especially with Angie Posticogo's circumstances, that is Aston Villa taking on Tottenham.
00:24:46
Eshan
the
00:24:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow, that's going to be a big one, especially considering the fact that Andrew Pusticogi will have some ground to make up for if he had if he doesn't have it already. Of course, that loss, well, that's a horrifying loss of Tottenham at Anfield.
00:25:06
Eshan
Yeah.
00:25:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
um that's going to be a that's scary because now poster goggles has even more pressure than he had and if he gets eliminated from f fa cup i think the the number might be up for poster gogloo
00:25:28
Eshan
Yeah, I could definitely see the same thing happening. I think tensions have been brewing a while. I think the fan base is behind him.
00:25:37
Eshan
But Daniel Levy is a cutthroat man. I think he was waiting for this week. I thought I think he had this week circled in his calendar because. Yeah, obviously, Liverpool is a tough test and um not to get too much into the game, but ah they didn't do horrifically and yet they the score line does not reflect kindly whatsoever.
00:26:01
Eshan
um But if they go to Villa, if they snake a loss, like, or sorry, Villa snake, a win is like penalties extra time. I think that'll have a different feel to it. But if Villa win, especially with pasta Cagliu's high line, if it's like four to five to something like that, ah where it's like high scoring again, I think the curtains on the wall, you know, i think i I just don't see anybody coming out of that. Like as much as I like him and I think he
00:26:33
Eshan
I like the way he plays. I think that there's something to be said for sticking to your guns and like try like flushing out your chest as a manager.
00:26:45
Eshan
He made a big deal at the start of the season about I win a second trophy.
00:26:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:26:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:26:49
Eshan
you know and i went ah In my second season, I always win a trophy. And to Tottenham fans, that was always going to be a hill you died on. I think if he got top four or something like that, to where he can like stamp his credentials more.
00:27:05
Eshan
Yeah, maybe they'd be willing to accept it um and say, okay, we didn't get the trophy, but at least where we look like a side. But doing worse than Man United this season is one of the biggest challenges. and
00:27:23
Eshan
they they They just need a victory here. I can't see anything other than a victory really sustaining him. I think even if they lose narrowly, he might keep his job, but it guarantees he's gone in summer.
00:27:37
Eshan
If they win here, I think he's buying time. Like Amurim has been saying about United, he's buying time.
00:27:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm hmm.
00:27:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:27:45
Eshan
Yeah.
00:27:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
And you know, I gotta tell you, like, it's at this is this point when we can no longer use excuses of injuries to back post a coagulus bid to stay in the job. Because, like, he had an opportunity at Anfield, of course, that was it that it was a tough, tough, tough job for post a coagulus to somehow ah bring the squat together and put like take the like bring the fight to Liverpool and that kind of happened in the first 45 minutes even after this conceded goal which leveled everything on aggregate but then Tottenham's defence just absolutely collapsed and the youngster which was put in there
00:28:11
Eshan
Mm.
00:28:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
for Tottenham, he completely, he did not, ah like like, he failed. I'm i'm i'm sorry, let let's be blunt here. He basically, he absolutely failed to ah somehow live up to the level that even like Premier League, not even to mention Carbo Cup requires. But if there is one saving grace that could be some sort of like a, which would allow post a Kogulu and Tottenham site to somehow look positively on the game against Aston Villa, is that Aston Villa, they have the problems of their own. Number one, being tired after the Champions League campaign. Everyone brings it up that Unai and Emory's squad is super tired after the European campaign. And those people, they just they just cannot produce as much quality as they as they could previously. And the last loss of Villa at Wolverhampton actually kind of proves it.
00:29:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Not to mention that Medic Ash is injured, Tyrone Mings is injured, Pau Torres is injured. um And I can definitely see that the loss of Medic Ash, Poland International, in this defence actually played out some big part because you could see that on the wings Aston Villa couldn't produce anything in that game against Wolverhampton. So maybe that is the perfect opportunity for Poste Kogulu to bounce back again.
00:29:42
Eshan
Yeah, um there's there's definitely a case for that, but I think given the the fact that will Villa have had a week off, I think that will give them enough rest to go again.
00:29:55
Eshan
I really can't see, ah just to move to predictions, I really can't see anything other than a villa win.
00:30:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:30:01
Eshan
I would predict, like, for one, something crazy.
00:30:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:30:06
Eshan
I will see. I mean, it'll be super interesting, I think, to see the villa lineup. I wonder how many signings that they made will fit in, will Asensio just come off the bench, will Rashford star. I would be very interested. Obviously they're missing players, uh, Matty Keshowski, ah so as he's called. them um ah but And there was an injury to Watkins. I don't think he's been confirmed to start. um I don't think it's the worst injury, but, you know, any time a player has been subbed off at halftime due to injury, always take notice. But even with a BTEC lineup, I just don't see anything other than Villa trouncing Spurs. How about you?
00:30:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
That is like, yeah, I would definitely agree with you that that is basically the the most realistic scenario that we could expect in that game of Aston Villa, but again, desperation, desperate times call for desperate measures, as it's said.
00:31:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I really think that post to Google, he knows, come on, he's not ah like a person who is blind. He knows that
00:31:17
Eshan
he's He's very much a realist.
00:31:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
hes He is a realist, so he will absolutely know that this is going to be a do or die. So you either make it happen, you knock out Aston Villa, and you give us something to cheer about, or you're out the door, and Tottenham has to fight to stay in the top flight.
00:31:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's it. Really, that that's really it. so Well, i guess ah I guess we can wish good luck to Tottenham fans there because I think they're going to need it. um Well, but just we we call it like we see it.
00:31:45
Eshan
Very much so.
00:31:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm sorry. like If we're too brutal, like come on, that's reality. And the the last game that we decided to highlight, maybe it's not super connected to Premier League, but it's super interesting because of the history behind it.
00:32:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that game is Leeds United taking on Millwall. And I could just put put full stop here and just let you comment on that because wow, how much of English football history is there in that single fixture?
00:32:15
Eshan
Yeah, um I think there's quite a lot of history. I mean, it's quintessential with football hooliganism, football culture, these two sides that um I believe Millwall is also like um not a one club city, but um the only club in that area and Leeds is a one club city. um And so they have such a vociferous fan base for each of them that sparks are going to be flying.
00:32:45
Eshan
um I think it'll be interesting but seeing,
00:32:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Definitely.
00:32:49
Eshan
um I love when two championships ah sides play each other in the FA Cup because one, there's the added pressure and two, there's a way to get a team back. Like leads have been dominating all season in the, and that well, dominating is a strong word, but doing very well in the championship, looking like ah promotion hopefuls, very consistent getting through a few of these tough tests.
00:33:16
Eshan
I think a championship team that's faced them early in the season will always want to just take them down and bring them a notch down just to remind them that they're still in this league. You're still fighting with us. So I could see Millwall bringing a lot of fight to this. They did lose Essay, who's one of their most important players. I'm not sure who they replaced him with to Crystal Palace, I believe. So Essay and Essay in the same team.
00:33:47
Eshan
um But I think yeah, this is another Leeds United victory another um But upsets happen, it's the beauty of the cup it's a beauty of the cup Yeah, yeah, it's fantastic
00:33:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly. Exactly so. And you know what, just just I love kind of trivia. I love trivia. Like I might get some, if if I really, yeah, and if I get some ah nice stats that I could present that I just really do not hesitate and just do it.
00:34:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
And well, I just have one question for you, Ishaan. Let's just start your knowledge.
00:34:19
Eshan
Okay.
00:34:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly how many times has Leeds, United and Millwall faced each other in the f FA Cup?
00:34:25
Eshan
In the FA Cup.
00:34:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes.
00:34:27
Eshan
Oh, interesting. Oof. I don't even remember any, but I'll say about, we'll go 12.
00:34:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
12. Well, this will be the very first ever f FA Cup meeting between Leeds United and Millwall.
00:34:41
Eshan
Oh, okay.
00:34:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was also surprised to read that. I was like, wow, so much history and that's going to be the first ever f FA Cup meeting?
00:34:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow.
00:34:52
Eshan
Hilarious, in 150 years.
00:34:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow, I mean, you know what, in that kind of case, I kind of I really kind of regret living in California but because of the time zone issue, because it's going to be 1215 GMT, which is going to be for 15am.
00:35:03
Eshan
Yeah.
00:35:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's middle middle of the night. So I think I will struggle to wake up to see that one.
00:35:10
Eshan
Yeah.
00:35:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I will sure to watch the highlights, because that that's that should be something.
00:35:17
Eshan
yeah
00:35:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
And indeed, the only previous cup competition in which they have faced was the short lived full members Cup.
00:35:25
Eshan
Wow Never heard of it, but Yeah,
00:35:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
with the Lions winning, so the Millwall winning both meetings till December 87 and November 88. So the history will be made, ladies and gentlemen, at the FA Cup.
00:35:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Very first and meeting between Leeds United and Millwall. I think we've hyped that one enough. So you said that's going to be Leeds United victory. um Well, I
00:35:46
Eshan
I'll go to now
00:35:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
like a tunail Well, I think I will refrain from giving any prediction since it's not like I'm not going to pretend that I know a lot about about both of those teams.
00:35:53
Eshan
ah
00:35:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
All I can rely on is stats. And according to the stats, yeah, Leeds United, they will have the edge. They have the like the bigger quality than their ah hated rivals, Millwall.
00:36:05
Eshan
Yeah.
00:36:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
So yeah, we'll see how Manner Solomon will do because he was the play of the match against Coventry. air for these united And yeah, we will see how it goes. So those basically the highlighted, the showcased ties in the fourth round of FA Cup. We're going to do a short break and then we will discuss everything else.
00:37:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
And just like that, our ah good friend Louis has queued us into talking about all of the other ties of the f FA Cup, which could be potentially interesting, but we would we would just need to talk about them in a nutshell. So Ishaan, looking at the entire list, what other games really like really draw your attention?
00:37:20
Eshan
Um, an all Premier League victory, Everton born with. I think that's a very interesting, very, very informed Everton. I would love to see an Everton victory and see a four game on the bounce, Everton going into the Liverpool Everton derby next week, the Merseys side derby.
00:37:39
Eshan
would be, oh, the football gods would have blessed us you seeing a downtrodden Everton and a postponed game come back.
00:37:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly.
00:37:48
Eshan
So that would be great. Also, the the side note is that earlier in the season, Everton choked a 2-0 lead at the 85th minute or something like that, 86th minute, to let Bournemouth come back and win ah score three.
00:38:06
Eshan
Which was an incredible game to watch. I like caught the end of it too, so it was perfect. of Yeah.
00:38:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well yeah that that game is scheduled to start on the February 8th at 7am Los Angeles time so that is somehow humane.
00:38:19
Eshan
Our time. Yeah.
00:38:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's a humane hour to watch football in in America.
00:38:23
Eshan
ah my my My other two would be Birmingham City, Newcastle. Newcastle obviously just coming off the Carabao Cup victory. And Plymouth, Liverpool. I scarcely believe an upset would happen, but it would be wonderful. you know Plymouth beating ah Brentford in the last round, just holding in the game, holding in the game, holding in the game. And Morgan Whitaker, who no longer plays with the club, scored in like the 82nd minute. and I think there's such a beauty when teams can go like they beat a team that like upset after upset after upset.
00:39:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right.
00:39:05
Eshan
So it'll build momentum because if Plymouth beat Liverpool, there's scarcely a better team in the in the country. So be very interested.
00:39:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, exactly. how many How many gifts will be sent to Plymouth from Man United fans after this upset victory?
00:39:20
Eshan
yeah
00:39:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think this is basically Man United Heart speaking from you Ishan there.
00:39:27
Eshan
uh yes yeah but um you know anything this is the beauty of the cup though is like you gotta dream because if you dream there's a chance if you don't dream there's no chance so exactly exactly oh what a what a cup run
00:39:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, God.
00:39:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Ask Wigan Athletic from 2013, when they defeated Manchester City, by the way.
00:39:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Whoever defeated our our rivals in football, we praise them, we love them, and we wish all the best to all of them.
00:39:54
Eshan
yeah we can we can also beat them in like 2017 with with uh like a one nil will grig winner which is also so wonderful you just it's just fun to see them fail
00:40:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Ah, right, right, right.
00:40:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
good this Well, it is what it is. And I think, okay, and you know what, before anyone says that that's too much and Manchester United has taken over the episode of this podcast too much, let me just say that Louis and previous episodes had absolutely zero problem to so students to bash Man United and his podcast without any response.
00:40:29
Eshan
Yeah.
00:40:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
So with all the respectable fans, you get what you give.
00:40:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, look at the look at the brows, look at the brows. To all of the people who cannot see us right now, I'm just doing the movement of the brows.
00:40:43
Eshan
Little eyebrow movement.
00:40:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
So the little brow movement to to to to see how smirky I am.
00:40:45
Eshan
Wow. Good set of brows on you. You're moving them fast.
00:40:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm just so, yeah, oh um my God. Yeah. You know what? yeah um but Actually, as a matter of fact, if somebody from our team could be like, if Man United lose their tie to FA Cup, they can easily just please feel free to ah have a shot published on YouTube with me being smirky and raising my eyebrows and meme the heck out of it.
00:41:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Do it. It's your prerogative. I basically I put myself in a vulnerable position.
00:41:17
Eshan
The beauty of football content.
00:41:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's yeah let's put it that way.
00:41:22
Eshan
Hilarious hilarious.
00:41:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it's just, you know, all of that bitterness coming out of Man United fans. I mean, apologies. Okay, so...
00:41:30
Eshan
It's gotta go somewhere.
00:41:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, my goodness. So with that being said, that wraps up our forecast Friday. ah Well, let's just wish all the best to all of the teams participating in the FA Cup in this fourth round proper.
00:41:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
And the one thing that we can wish to everyone, no matter ah who the opponent and who the club and what the clubs are, is health. well May there not be any more injuries because that has become a plague in football, isn't already shown.
00:41:57
Eshan
Yeah, yeah. um We're seeing players getting overworked, and realistically, when you have competitions like the Club World Cup, which has now expanded for some reason to 48 teams,

Club World Cup Expansion Criticism

00:42:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Absolutely ridiculous.
00:42:12
Eshan
it's yeah it's it's it's not looking good.
00:42:16
Eshan
It's not looking good.
00:42:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah So as my mother-in-law would say, hang on tight. you You can get it, you can do it. so ah So with that being said with a beautiful tip off to my mother-in-law, which I of course i greet from the bottom of my heart, that wraps it up for the daily Premier League in English episode brought to you by Global Sports Podcasting Network.
00:42:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
