Introduction and Hosts

00:00:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello, hello, and welcome to the Daily English Premier League podcast. um Oh, I'm so sorry. For some reason, God, look, never mind. Welcome to the english Daily English Premier League podcast. My name is Michał Czarniecki, based here in California, and I'm joined by Victor from Chicago, Illinois, one of the biggest bases of Polish nationals living there, or Polish Americans, whatever. Thank you, Victor, for joining me.
00:01:08
Viktor
Hey, Mikkel, how are you? Good to see you, my friend.
00:01:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, good to see you too. And for the for the first time, we actually have a face-to-face conversation which not going to be interrupted by any Liverpool fans, Arsenal fans, other disgruntled Man Utd fans, just you, me and our viewers and listeners.
00:01:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
How does that sound?
00:01:24
Viktor
just Just us, the suffering souls of Man United fans.

Manchester United's Form: A Relief?

00:01:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, you know what?
00:01:29
Viktor
Good...
00:01:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Actually, because of the how the fixture plan pans out for ah today's Tuesday's games and Wednesday's games, probably there will not be a lot of time and chance to talk about how Man United is poor, which is actually a blessing.
00:01:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
So whoever was so coming up with those fixtures and and and yet and then those bouts scheduled for Match Week 27, thank you, thank you.
00:01:45
Viktor
yep
00:01:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Origato, origato. as Japanese say, if there are any Japanese listeners and viewers, let me know if I

Aston Villa vs. Crystal Palace Game

00:01:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
pronounced that correctly. So what a day of fixtures we had of ties and actually unexpected results.
00:02:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Isn't that right, Victor?
00:02:09
Viktor
oh I don't know if it's unexpected. If you're talking about the Aston Villa game, to be completely honest with you, I expected them to lose only because they've been playing a lot of games and I thought eventually they'll get tired.
00:02:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:02:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right.
00:02:23
Viktor
And that's what happened today in the second half. you You saw two different sides of Aston Villa. You had the first half when it was wide open, it could have gone either way. And then the second half, they completely fell apart.
00:02:33
Viktor
And Crystal Palace just scored and finished with 4-1. But yeah, this it was a big game for Aston Villa to stay in the top. Now they're still but off, I would say, for a few points.
00:02:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
right
00:02:46
Viktor
Still going for that top four finish. I assume that will be their goal and ah have the best season, I guess, in the Champions League in a while

Crystal Palace's Rise

00:02:55
Viktor
this year.
00:02:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Of course, obviously. I mean, well, you've just kick-started the ah conversation about Crystal Palace Aston Villa, and that was basically what we want to start with. Well, we did have, well, I had some reservations as to the choice but made by the networks broadcasting Premier League that why on earth somebody would think that Crystal Palace Aston Villa was a good game to highlight the day?
00:03:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
There was a far more important game over Brighton taking on Bournemouth because that was the rivalry for the European players. ah positions and for like, like for points, which are super important in a Premier League table. And then the faith decided to shut my mouth because boy, oh boy, was that a cracker for goals scored by Crystal Palace. Aston Villa defense absolutely smashed, battered, whatever you want to call it.
00:03:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Yeah. And yeah, they basically fell apart. Not to mention that after 45 minutes, Emiliano Martinez needed to be substituted probably because of an injury.
00:03:49
Viktor
Yep.
00:03:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then, um, Well, Robin Olsen took over, and that was a night before him. But to to be completely honest, is the entire team just just they just did not deliver at all and all today, did they?
00:03:55
Viktor
Yep.
00:04:01
Viktor
Nothing really he can do. I mean, at some point I felt like maybe Aston Villa with the subs coming in can kind of refresh the game, but nope, it was just all Crystal Palace.
00:04:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right.
00:04:12
Viktor
But we we have to give him credit as well because they've even picked they picked up their form big time in the second half of the season. So this is like ah how many wins in a row they have.
00:04:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:04:21
Viktor
Like I know they they like they won the last game, but... Yeah, they lost at home at Everton, but before that, they beat United away. They won in the FA Cup. And yeah, they're climbing. So obviously now that they're safe, I would say, from relegation.
00:04:36
Viktor
At the beginning of the season, it was tough. but But yeah, no issues with Crystal Palace now, I think.
00:04:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Absolutely. Absolutely. They are on the roll. And, well, if somebody thought that a win of of Crystal Palace's win against s Manchester United was just a fluke, ah no, absolutely not. They are really on the roll.
00:04:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, those last um really, those last results of Crystal Palace are pretty impressive. Like 2-0 against Fulham. Well, just that loss against Everton with two goals to one super narrowly. They are through add in the FA Cup.
00:05:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Things are looking pretty very up for that side.
00:05:14
Viktor
Yeah.
00:05:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And as far as...
00:05:15
Viktor
They're pretty strong defensively as well, to be honest.
00:05:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly.
00:05:17
Viktor
They're very compact and you cannot create that many chances against them.
00:05:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
yes
00:05:22
Viktor
So if you don't score the few chances they get, yeah you're not going to win the game.
00:05:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly. Well, although according to the stats, it was like a it wasn't like a brilliant game by the three centre-backs, but it was a correct their presence and their performance was correct according to the stats.
00:05:33
Viktor
Yeah.
00:05:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
But then, as we know, stats love ah showing like introducing a completely different picture than to what we actually saw.
00:05:37
Viktor
Yeah. Yeah.
00:05:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ah, so many examples of that. And as far as Aston Villa goes, I think that they are glad that this series of endless games with the Unai Emery having to rotate the squad over and over again, that this period is actually over.
00:06:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because from what I can see, the very next game Aston Villa will have already in the Champions League against Club Bruges on March 4th. So this...
00:06:07
Viktor
And then play on Friday, FA Cup. So this team literally, I feel like, plays most games than any Premier League right now in the moment.
00:06:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right.
00:06:14
Viktor
So

Aston Villa's Fixture Congestion

00:06:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. oh Yeah, my bad. My bad. Yeah. They will also have an FA Cup tie on the 28th of February, but still, they will just be begging for those couple days off just so their squad can recover, especially for Club Rouge, because that will be a a and very important ah match in Aston Villa's history. Round of 16 of Champions League. All hell is breaking loose, really.
00:06:15
Viktor
very busy schedule.
00:06:36
Viktor
Yeah, it's been, they were European champions like what, 40 years ago, 45 years ago. So it's been a while.
00:06:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Time to get that trophy at Munich, is what you're saying?
00:06:44
Viktor
Yeah, this is, this is,
00:06:48
Viktor
I don't know. Yeah.
00:06:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
That is a very good diplomatic answer. I'm sure Aston Villa fans love it. Okay, so just like that, with that victory of Crystal ah Palace, ah they are now 12th in the Premier League table with 36 points and two straight victories in their... Yeah, two straight victories. Yeah, two consecutive.
00:07:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
And as far as Aston Villa goes, their loss means that they are now tied on points with Fulham, um ah Well, they won their game. um we will We will discuss it just to briefly later on.
00:07:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
42 points each, ah one point of... um but They still have that one point of disadvantage towards ah Brighton and Bournemouth, which they sit respectively eighth and seventh.
00:07:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
But those European positions are still up for grabs, really.
00:07:36
Viktor
Yeah, and definitely. They'll go for it. I think ah their main focus will be obviously to play in Europe again next year and and and go as far as they can in the Champions League.
00:07:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, best of luck to them. And just like that, we move on to another game, which will be the showdown, which I thought would be the most important one of the day.

Brighton vs. Bournemouth Recap

00:07:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
But then the the fate proved me wrong.
00:07:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah But still, all but but all of that aside, it was still a very entertaining game to watch. It was ah Brighton taking on Bournemouth. And in that game, that result was two goals to one on the side of the hosts of the Amex Stadium, Danny Welbeck and Joel Pedro scoring for Brighton. And Kluivert scoring that one contact goal, as we call it in the 61st minute.
00:08:21
Viktor
What a goal that was. That was a brilliant goal.
00:08:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:08:24
Viktor
Yeah, this game, also I would say two different halves. In the first half, it was all Brighton, and then Bournemouth picked up the pace in the second half. They equalized the game, and then I thought they're actually going to get a winner, but then the legend, Danny Welbeck.
00:08:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
the
00:08:40
Viktor
yeah Just the moment he came on and he scored the winner. yeah That's a big big win for Brighton for sure. They're back in the top four, I would say, race. Definitely back in the race for a European football. but yeah I think they're going to make a push for top four as well.
00:08:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:08:57
Viktor
They don't have that many. They don't have European football, so that's one focus. they They still have the FA Cup, but other than that, they can really have some break in between the games. Something that Aston Villa does not have.
00:09:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly. Oh, well, faster today this is how the fixture is is planned. So we don't have really they do not really have control over about that. But you know what? Every single time I hear like this argument, and um and don't get me wrong, I still agree that European Cups create some sort of a burden ah for the like as far as stamina goes and the players go.
00:09:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
But ah with that being said, i have a feeling that maybe not as much in the Premier League, but in other leagues in Europe, This argument of um fatigue of players because of European Cups is so overused to the point that people basically have a meme that, oh my God, so okay, maybe it's better to play in the fourth tier of your domestic football.
00:09:44
Viktor
Thank you.
00:09:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
So just so God forbid that you have any European Cups. No one perceives this as opportunity anymore. Now all of a sudden it's a burden that it like you were sentenced, you were forced to play in that Champions League.
00:10:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Like what's up with that?
00:10:03
Viktor
it's it's It's tough, Tomiko. Come on, they they play so much. They play so much. Even now, the Club World Cup for some teams, it's like you barely have like two weeks of of rest.
00:10:14
Viktor
I mean, we also have two weeks of rest if you if you look at it that way, if you have a regular job. But for for a football player, it's tough. It's tough. your Your legs get tired and after a while, you'll feel that.
00:10:27
Viktor
can You can be fine the first few months, but it's catching up on you, so...
00:10:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:10:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
True.
00:10:32
Viktor
That's why all these injuries happen as well. So that's another dangerous thing.
00:10:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
True.
00:10:36
Viktor
A lot of ACL injuries.
00:10:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Yeah, that is like a plague. And yeah, I'm just trying to be provocative with my questions, really, just to keep keep emotions going wild. I want to go back to the performance of Bournemouth in that game. Yeah, of course, they lost narrowly. It's not like they were playing super bad ah in that game as well. ah But, well, Brighton, of course, deservedly won that game.
00:11:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
I want to highlight the performance of Justin Kluivert, really. I mean, the the way how he was playing. I am in awe with this guy, really. I mean, how he is holding up not only the midfield, but more specifically how fast he is in the attacks.
00:11:09
Viktor
Yeah.
00:11:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
this is as for For me, Justin Kluivert is the personification of what the modern football is supposed to be. It's that Pep Guardiola saying that today's football is no longer positional.
00:11:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's about fire. It's about sprint. It's about speed. It's about effectiveness. It's about counterattacking. Justin Kluivert should be positioned there in the dictionary.
00:11:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
If somebody wants to look up nowadays modern style of football to see what it means.

Justin Kluivert's Impact

00:11:45
Viktor
huge Huge improvement.
00:11:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's Justin Kluivert for you.
00:11:46
Viktor
Huge improvement from last year. If you look at his...
00:11:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah.
00:11:49
Viktor
Obviously, the pace was always there, but his consistency picked up. He's scoring goals now. So it's a completely different player. But in terms of like both teams, Bournemouth and Brighton, they're both the same.
00:12:01
Viktor
They have the same inconsistency. They will get few wins, and just when you thought, okay, they're going to get to a really good spot, they'll lose the game, and it goes like in a circle.
00:12:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right.
00:12:11
Viktor
So... but Yeah, this was a good win for Brighton for sure.
00:12:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
right
00:12:14
Viktor
Put them closer to top four and then they're going to push for that for sure.
00:12:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
and ah yeah And thanks to the result that Brighton had, just like you said, um their position in the Premier League table is is much, much better um right now. oh Of course, they are in the fight for the european um but the for the European positions that will just grant them the European Cups next season.
00:12:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
But this fight is really, really open. I mean, just that that victory only ah caused Brighton to tie themselves in points with Bournemouth.
00:12:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just ah one point of they just need to get that one more point. And all of a sudden they will be tied with Newcastle and Man City. Yes, yes, of course.
00:13:01
Viktor
Yep.
00:13:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Those ah teams, where they Newcastle, Man City, they still have that one additional game to play. and we're goingnna be And we're going to be discussing that very shortly. But looking at how the table is panned out right now, what are the chances of Bournemouth playing in Champions League?
00:13:20
Viktor
My prediction, they'll fall short, but I also don't think Nottingham Forest will finish in top four.
00:13:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:13:27
Viktor
My thing is I have a feeling that Newcastle is going to make top four. Unpopular opinion.
00:13:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:13:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Okay.
00:13:36
Viktor
I think that Newcastle is going to pick up the fourth place and Chelsea, with all the games coming up in in Conference League, they'll drop some points when it matters, I think.
00:13:46
Viktor
Because I think they're going to go far in that competition and you have a lot of extra games. That literally gives you another, what if two, four, six, seven more games to play.
00:13:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly.
00:13:57
Viktor
So, yeah.
00:13:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, European Cups, like as we mentioned again,
00:13:59
Viktor
If they go to the final, that'll be the seven game.
00:14:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, if they reach Wrocław, then yeah, then maybe, yeah, that that will easily just play and a very important role.
00:14:02
Viktor
Yeah.
00:14:05
Viktor
Yeah.
00:14:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Again, stamina, fatigue, what's more important? Is it the league? Is it the conference league? Well, or it could just be that one upset that once Legia Warsaw defeats Molde in the Roundup 16 in the quarterfinal, they meet against Chelsea, and we'll have something to talk about.
00:14:22
Viktor
Yeah.
00:14:25
Viktor
yeah
00:14:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's going to be amazing. Well, we'll see. We'll see how it goes. um Well, and until that time, I recommend to not only Legia players, not to Chelsea players, but to all of the all of the players of the Premier League to check out our sponsor, which is Bionic.
00:14:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
And who are they? Well, here's the ad to tell you something more about it.
00:15:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly so. um Thank you. We've heard that already. So, yeah, get what get what your body needs. to Use the code, ah which we heard in the ad, which is GSPN2025, to get your discount for those supplements. Thank you, Bionic, for and sponsoring us, because without our sponsors, we wouldn't be able to do this. So...
00:15:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Just like that, we move on to the games which will happen on Wednesday. You guys are listening into this on Wednesday. So let's just say that what's going to happen today. So today we've got, of course, another day packed with Premier League action.
00:15:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
We picked three games that we wanted to talk about because I think they are the most important. And let's start with Liverpool, Newcastle. Victor, what is your prediction to what's going to

Liverpool vs. Newcastle Preview

00:16:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
happen in Anfield?
00:16:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:16:11
Viktor
Oh, tough one. Newcastle is dangerous only because Isaac always finds that room that he needs. But I think Liverpool is going take the win, but it's not going to be as easy as as people think it is, especially if Newcastle scores first.
00:16:24
Viktor
And also, this is like a preview for the Liga Cup final. So they have to see how they're going to play against each other.
00:16:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:16:33
Viktor
And then based off of that performance, then you have your tactics for the final. So But yeah, I expect ah Liverpool to win, even though they'll play with way less pressure than before, because now the the the difference with Arsenal is even bigger.
00:16:48
Viktor
so But yeah, I expect a 2-1 win for Liverpool.
00:16:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I would agree with that. 11 points to clear and um in the Premier League table. That is a super comfortable um advantage to have with just, I believe, 11 or 12 games left to play, um if if I remember correctly.
00:17:07
Viktor
11, and they have seven of those 11 at home.
00:17:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
11.
00:17:11
Viktor
So that is a huge difference for Liverpool. I think it's pretty much done.
00:17:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
There you go.
00:17:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think so too. ah Yeah, but who knows?
00:17:17
Viktor
Yeah.
00:17:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Maybe Arsenal will pull off the impossible, although they already had that task last season. and How did it work out? They just forgot to score.
00:17:27
Viktor
the you
00:17:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
They forgot to score points.
00:17:28
Viktor
The usual Arsenal, unfortunately...
00:17:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Oh, God.
00:17:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, ah just just to go back to um to Newcastle here for a moment, just couple of trivia for you. and Newcastle have won just one of the last 27 Premier League games against sides starting the day top of the table.
00:17:45
Viktor
Oh, wow.
00:17:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Eight draws, 18 defeats, beating Chelsea 2-1 in December 2014 under Pardew. They've never won away from home against the team top of the Premier League table in 20 attempts. Five draws, 15 losses.
00:18:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Trivia doesn't work in Newcastle's favour, that's for sure. That really is tough. But um also, Newcastle have won both of the last two evenings, 7pm or later, kick-offs in the Premier League.
00:18:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
2-0 against Man United, 3-0 against Wolves, as many as they had in their previous 13 prior. So, three draws, eight defeats. so Maybe, just maybe.
00:18:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, Man United, Wolves, those are basically reallyate relegation teams. Come on, let's get really here.
00:18:29
Viktor
Yeah.
00:18:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, God. ah And I promise that I wouldn't say anything bad about Man United today. it's It's just tough, man. It really is. Oh, God.
00:18:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:18:42
Viktor
if if man united doesn't win today against ipswich then that is alarm should be on already for amoreen obviously you want to give him the time and you want to give him his own players to bring in the summer clean up whoever he's not happy with but even with this players you should be winning some of the games and not being 15 so yeah
00:18:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. no
00:18:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:19:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, exactly, exactly. And well, then and if that really happens and all of those redundancies are announced lately about about like, I don't know, 44 or 45% of redundancies made as a some plan to restructure the club.
00:19:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Wow, that will just look super cruel because the players did not deliver and all of a sudden all of those guys working for the club all of a sudden will be laid off because they are the root of the problem.
00:19:30
Viktor
yeah
00:19:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, right.
00:19:32
Viktor
Yeah, that's pretty sad.
00:19:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, but we were talking about Newcastle.
00:19:33
Viktor
But what a story would it be?
00:19:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. yeah
00:19:36
Viktor
What a story would it be if Man United wins Europa League, get Champions League, get the extra money, offload whoever you're not happy with, and then you build from there.
00:19:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Okay.
00:19:46
Viktor
So we can still have a better season than Arsenal or Chelsea or Man City.
00:19:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:19:52
Viktor
So we'll see. We suck, but we have we have some hope.
00:19:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
okay
00:19:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and that game is going to happen. We will see we'll see what and what um will be unveiled, what kind of Manchester United team we will get and what kind of Ipswich opposition will be. But let's just go back for just one second fold to Liverpool, Newcastle.
00:20:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Of course, ah in last episode, I forgot to mention how Mohamed Salah is a giant of of European football, not only English football.
00:20:22
Viktor
Yeah.
00:20:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
So Salah became the first player in Premier League history to score and assist in both matches against the reigning champions in a season. um Not to mention he is the assist king. He's already matched Messi in terms of scoring, like him scoring and assisting in 11 Premier League matches this season.
00:20:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
The most by a player in a single season in one of Europe's big five leagues since Leo Messi did it with Barcelona in season 2014-15. And now the question is, will Mohamed Salah get Ballon d'Or?
00:20:57
Viktor
I think he I think he will. And that is mainly because 2025, there is no World Cup, there is no Euro. So usually if there' if it's a year no of a World Cup or a Euro, if someone wins that and have like a good season, you would give that usually to that player.
00:21:14
Viktor
But there's no such a big event in the summer like that. So if Liverpool wins the title in England and he keeps having these numbers, I have zero doubt that he will get the Ballon d'Or and it will be totally deserved.
00:21:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right.
00:21:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Deservedly

Mohamed Salah's Ballon d'Or Chances

00:21:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
so. I just hope that they will not cancel the entire contest like they did in 2020.
00:21:29
Viktor
no
00:21:34
Viktor
You cannot let that go, Mikhail.
00:21:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
there No. And I will not. I will freaking not.
00:21:38
Viktor
Tell the people why.
00:21:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
because he Why?
00:21:40
Viktor
Not everyone knows.
00:21:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, let me let me tell you why. Because Robert Lewandowski had the best season of his life. Yes, I'm going to be complaining about it. But, ah okay, let's just move on. Let's just move on. Liverpool, Newcastle.
00:21:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
We ah talk about this. Okay, let me let's just have some brief mention on what's at stake ah for Newcastle team in this game.
00:21:58
Viktor
Yeah, it's it's a big game for Newcastle. They need to get something out of this game to keep that top four hopes.
00:22:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:22:05
Viktor
And then, yeah, that's it's a it's a big game. And Liverpool, on the other hand, they they don't have another game until next Wednesday. So this is going to be in the back of their heads. Like, we need to push ourselves to the max.
00:22:16
Viktor
Our next game is in a week. So there will be plenty of time to and get our energy back and kind of rest. So we need to give everything we have for this game.
00:22:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly. Liverpool's form in five games, three victories and two draws. One draw in the Merseyside Derby 2-2 against Everton and and a ah two goals each draw against Aston Villa. That also was a tough game for Arnaz Lodz's side, but...
00:22:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
All of those things considered, Liverpool, of course, are the favourites. And as far as Newcastle goes, in five games, three defeats. One against Bournemouth, another one against Fulham and um against Manchester City. That was a masterpiece of Omar Mamouchev, of course, as we...
00:23:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
remember it clearly. So that's Liverpool-Newcastle, the preview of the Carabao Cup final, as we've already discussed that. Let's move on to the highlight of the of all those fixture lists for today, and that will be Tottenham Hotspur facing Manchester City. And I feel in this game, Victor, Pep Guardiola has got something to prove.
00:23:22
Viktor
Yeah, definitely. I mean, they need to pick up their form if they're going to finish top four. They're aware that they can't win the league this year. They're out of the Champions League. They literally have, what, just the FA Cup to play for. So that's pretty much it.
00:23:35
Viktor
So they they have to get ah successful season for them would be finishing third and then get the FA Cup.
00:23:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:23:43
Viktor
And on the other hand, you yeah have Tottenham because they they still have Europa League, which are probably the main favorites along with Man United. But they still want to finish as as high as they can. And I feel like Tottenham is the same, literally the same story as Man United.
00:23:58
Viktor
You have nothing to play in the Premier League, but you have the Europa League, which is, it can change your season. Winning that, that's one big trophy. And then you get the Champions League next year. So, yeah.
00:24:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
but but but But with that being said, if Ruben Amorim fails to win Europa League with Manchester United, his job will not be um super endangered. But if Andrzej Postokoglu fails to win Europa League on top of their ah well dismal ah performance in in in the Premier League, I think that Andrzej Postokoglu might be the favourite in betting companies to get sacked first.
00:24:36
Viktor
I hope not. I love the guy.
00:24:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, yeah, like he's trying to innovate.
00:24:39
Viktor
Honestly, i like he's straight to the point guy.
00:24:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:24:43
Viktor
and No BS. Yeah, I like Angie. But what can you do is the same story with Tottenham. So I don't live in England. I don't know how the club is and why everyone has the same story.
00:24:54
Viktor
Conte, Mourinho, everyone that was there, it was the same story.
00:24:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:24:57
Viktor
So and don't know what's going on in the background of that club. But yeah, tough.
00:25:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
i'm i'm short yeah I'm sure, I'm sure Tottenham fans are screaming, Levi, Levi, right in your face to the screen.
00:25:05
Viktor
Yeah, but how much can Levi have to do with that?
00:25:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
levi
00:25:11
Viktor
i mean, yeah, but I don't know.
00:25:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just but a little bit of trivia ahead of that game. Tottenham have won three league games in a row for the first time since December 2023. It's as many victories as they had managed in their previous 15 attempts.
00:25:25
Viktor
Wow. Wow.
00:25:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Two draws and 10 losses. ah They have scored in 11 successive Premier League home matches. Their only game without scoring in 20 competitive fixtures at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season came against Arsenal in September.
00:25:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
There you go. um Well, Song-Hoon Min, he needs to provide just one more assist to match his highest tally of 10 in the Premier League season. However, eight of Song's past nine goals involvement have come away from home.
00:25:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, we could just have just another 30-minute podcast on how ah home support no longer counts in nowadays football, or this is at least what stats prove. um
00:26:05
Viktor
Yeah.
00:26:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
And as far as Manchester City goes, they have lost 14 of the last 27 matches in all competitions. An earning Haaland goal at Spurs would mean he scored 10 at home and 10 away in three Premier League seasons, a feat only achieved by Harry Kane.
00:26:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Haaland has scored six goals and five Premier League games ah in London this season. A lot of fish histories, a lot of angles, as sports journalists would say.
00:26:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
The only thing that we have to do is just to sit back, relax and watch. Isn't that right? Yeah, and that pretty much sums it up for Tottenham and Manchester City, unless you want to add something.
00:26:42
Viktor
No, that's just pretty much it. I'm
00:26:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that's pretty much it. So let's move on to a third a game that we would like to highlight, which is another top tier bout in the Premier League between Nottingham Forest and Arsenal.
00:26:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, with Arsenal, we've already touched on a little bit, how they are struggling to pick up points and especially the games that matter. And just like we said, that is the same story with Tottenham not managing to win. It's the same story with Arsenal.
00:27:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, there was this joke on the Arsene Wenger that they always finish fourth. Now, perhaps we should start a see we just start a joke with Arsene always finishing second. Who knows?
00:27:19
Viktor
Yeah, maybe in five years there will be a different story. Then they'll finish first for once for a long time.
00:27:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, and that would be such a celebration. I can just see us and Wenger and Thierry Henry in some interview after the final game of the season, just in joyous celebrations and some fans just mocking them. Like, yeah, Andrei, you did that okay, but you, Wenger?
00:27:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
You? Oh, come on. we Now we got Arteta. Arteta ball is the best.
00:27:44
Viktor
I was so mad last year.
00:27:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
No. and Mm-hmm.
00:27:47
Viktor
i was so mad. la Last year, I had i had a a parlay that Arsenal's going to win the league and Haaland's going to be top goal scorer. And when i don't you probably remember that Son miss against Tottenham in the 37th round when he was one-on-one.
00:27:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, yeah.
00:28:01
Viktor
If he only scored that, Arsenal would have been champions. So, tough one for me.
00:28:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
I commented on that game. Yeah. I remember I...
00:28:07
Viktor
Tough one for me. I would have got thousand bucks.
00:28:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:28:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, come on.
00:28:11
Viktor
Yeah. Yeah.
00:28:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and i'm really I remember that derby because like everyone was so hyped about it. And I commented that game but and that song's miss on one-on-one. i but I believe I said something in the lines of, ah that miss might have just handed Manchester City of the championship.
00:28:28
Viktor
Yeah, and he did.
00:28:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it did.
00:28:30
Viktor
Yeah.
00:28:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it did. oh you know what? I kind of wish for that kind of game again. It was like so exciting. I was just screaming all around the house, commenting that game.
00:28:38
Viktor
yeah
00:28:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
And yeah, and it came to the point when the people with whom I was living in the house, they just wanted me to shut up because I was just too loud.
00:28:45
Viktor
Yeah.
00:28:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
But hey, I was commenting. What can I do? Okay, so ah back to the case at hand, Nottingham Forest. um I have a feeling that they do not have as much to prove.
00:28:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
um as Manchester City because they're overachievers so whatever position they will finish even if they get Europa League um next season that will still be a huge success for Nunez Piro de Santo right
00:29:01
Viktor
Yeah.
00:29:09
Viktor
ah At this point, like if if it was like 15 games into the season and this was the standings, I would have agreed with you.
00:29:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
hmm
00:29:17
Viktor
But now going like 27 games into the season and they're in third, I think their goal is definitely to finish top four. And they should. They should be the goal. But I feel like they are slowly falling apart and they're very inconsistent.
00:29:31
Viktor
And tomorrow's game is huge for them, especially how how much they fell apart against Newcastle. And then they came back. But on the other hand, you have Arsenal, who without Saka and now Havertz the last two games, they don't look dangerous at all.
00:29:46
Viktor
Like they look terrible. So I i can totally see this game this game going either way. So we'll see.
00:29:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:29:53
Viktor
We'll see how Arsenal is going to come back after that West Ham loss, which is a big loss for them. Obviously, they we know the rivalry they have with West Ham. So they'll have to come back and they need ah they need a win.
00:30:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm. Well, I, to be honest, yeah.
00:30:06
Viktor
They need a win for sure.
00:30:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely need a win. And to be honest, like in that last game of Arsenal, I didn't even want to check the social media after that red card shown to Myles Lewis Skelly, because I just knew that there would be a huge uproar and discussion as to how VAR is is it's robbing Arsenal.
00:30:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
But in that case, Lewis Skelly actually did deserve to be sent off.
00:30:24
Viktor
Oh, that was 100% red card.
00:30:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:30:28
Viktor
If you see where Raya was, he was literally 30 yards out of his of his goal. Like, if if that foul didn't happen, he would have conceded a goal.
00:30:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm hmm.
00:30:38
Viktor
So, yeah, it was I was shocked the ref didn't see it at the beginning and just give it a red card straight. But, yeah, still, even before that red card, Arsenal did not create anything. There was nothing. it was just possession. There's no chances, no nothing.
00:30:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Guys, just in case ah you wonder why Victor is now sending you that ah quite quite a interesting gaze. That's because his camera froze. So no need to be alarmed. We're still going. It's all fine.
00:31:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
But you're just going to have to stick with that gaze.
00:31:08
Viktor
i I have eyes on you I have eyes my camera froze the moment we mentioned our Arsenal
00:31:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, definitely. ah oh You're talking something about Arsenal? You're talking about a thousand bucks? Okay. So...
00:31:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
You say second best. Your camera is always second best. What is going on? Oh, God. I'm sorry, guys. I'm sorry. ah Come on.
00:31:29
Viktor
that's perfect
00:31:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
You have to understand a Man United fan here. We have so much to suffer that when we just, you know, throw some irony towards some other teams, that's not because we hate them.
00:31:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's because we hate ourselves.
00:31:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's just move on. 17-year-old Ethan N. Waneri scored his first-ever Premier League goal in Arsenal's 3-0 over Nottingham Forest in the reverse fixture. ah The only player to score home and away goals against an opponent before turning 18 in a single Premier League campaign is... Victor, your thoughts?
00:32:03
Viktor
Say it again, I lost you for a second.
00:32:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, okay.
00:32:05
Viktor
Can you repeat it one more time?
00:32:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
So basically, who is the player who scored home and away goals against an opponent, the same opponent, before turning 18 years old in a single Premier League campaign is...
00:32:18
Viktor
Wayne Rooney?
00:32:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
You nailed it. Exactly. That's correct.
00:32:22
Viktor
Is it?
00:32:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes.
00:32:23
Viktor
Beautiful.
00:32:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wayne Rooney against Arsenal in the season 2002-2003. and three And a lot of eyes will be on that 17-year-old because if he somehow manages to pull out to pull off a great performance against Nottingham Forest, he will just be a nominal winger if he isn't already because of the injuries. But then he could actually be the one to be the next Bukayo Saka if somebody could...
00:32:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Good column. So, not...
00:32:51
Viktor
Yeah, his movement his movement and control of the ball, how close he keeps the ball to his feet, it's it's phenomenal for that age. So, yeah, someone to look for in the future, for sure.
00:33:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it add that one is a keeper. And I think Mikel Arteta will be ah fighting for him like a lion um like a lion would, really, ah for that kind of talent. So that would wrap up those the the highlighting of those very important games.
00:33:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Let's take an ad break and then we will discuss briefly the remaining ties in that match week.
00:33:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep, and thank you so much. Yes, Louis, we heard it already. So apologies for those technical difficulties. So Zencasta, thank you again for allowing us to use this platform to produce the content for our viewers and listeners. GSPN Global Sports Podcasting Network, every club, every day in various languages, even if you ah prefer to hear about Premier League in Hindi or in Spanish, it's right there for you. So just go ahead and check out GSPN.
00:34:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Yeah, and just like that, we have arrived to discussing briefly the remaining games for Wednesday. Just like we said, Manchester United taking on Ipswich.
00:34:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think we've already touched on that, that if Ipswich wins that game, then there was going to be hell to pay, as I heard many, many times in American um language.
00:34:46
Viktor
Yeah.
00:34:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
American, I'm i'm um saying American on purpose. and And yeah, and we also have a game of Brentford taking on Everton. That should be, ah what do you think? Should that be in an easy game for Everton or will Brentford put up a fight?
00:35:06
Viktor
I don't know. Brentford is in a good form as well, and they've been playing pretty well. The way they beat Leicester away, the way they beat West Ham, they score a lot of goals. And Everton now, since Sean Dyche is gone on the Moise, they play offensive football. So it's going to be a pretty open game, I think. It can go either way.
00:35:26
Viktor
I wouldn't say there are any favorites in that game.
00:35:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely. So that will be another interesting game to to follow. Of course, maybe not as interesting as those that we highlighted. But then again, you never know. We thought that Brighton and Broadmoor would be the most interesting.
00:35:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then Crystal Palace arrived. So I do not want i really do not want to make any predictions heading to um you know upcoming fixtures as far as Premier League goes, really.
00:35:43
Viktor
yeah
00:35:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, goodness.
00:35:52
Viktor
for me.
00:35:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Two on Brentford. Okay.
00:35:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
We have that recorded, guys. In case and that was a great suggestion that any viewer or listener would take to the bank or take to the betting company.
00:35:54
Viktor
Yeah.
00:35:56
Viktor
Yeah.
00:36:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
We take no responsibility for any of the predictions we make. and So, yeah. That's Brentford Everton for you. And then the the remaining game that which we haven't talked about is West Ham Leicester here. Both teams, again, having something to prove. But with that being said, Leicester being in the relegation mood, unfortunately, they're not going to be a big favorite against West Ham. Yes, West Ham, they do have their own problems.
00:36:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
But with after all is said and done, I think that's just another W for West Ham.
00:36:34
Viktor
Yeah, I mean, Leicester, the same way, pretty much like Southampton, they just fall apart. And we saw that we saw that against the game and ah with Brentford. So they created a few chances the beginning, fell apart, considered one, two goals, and then it's game over after that. so Yeah, I mean, the bottom three, I think those three, unfortunately, going to go back to the championship.
00:36:57
Viktor
But i again, West Ham is not a team that also have any consistency. They beat the big teams and then they lose to small teams like this. So we'll see. it I actually don't think West Ham is going to win this game that that easy.
00:37:10
Viktor
Even coming after a win against Arsenal like that, they're still going to do something stupid, I have a feeling.
00:37:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, and will our...
00:37:18
Viktor
And I hope they do because Rudvan Nistro is the coach of Leicester.
00:37:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly.
00:37:24
Viktor
And me and you love Rud. So come on, Rud.
00:37:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fingers crossed. Hell yeah. Go on. Go on there, you. So with that being said, we've reached the end of our episode there. Victor, thank you so, so much for joining me. And well, let's do it again sometime.
00:37:38
Viktor
Thank you, Mikael. Looking forward to the next one.
00:37:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly. Thank you so much, guys, so for tuning in. and Don't forget to like, don't forget to subscribe, because the more you are out there, the more excited we are to make more content here at Global Sports Podcast Network, particularly English Premier League.
00:37:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
And tune in tomorrow, because tomorrow we will be discussing all of those. ah important games, which we already talked about. Will Tottenham pull a surprise win against Manchester City? Will Liverpool ah continue to dominate in Premier League? What will happen in those other the games? We'll see Victor from Chicago, Michal Czarnycki from California. Thank you and see you and we'll hear you in the next one.
