Chelsea vs. Brighton Preview

00:00:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Welcome back to the Daily English Premierly Podcast brought to you by GSPN. I'm Nick and I am joined by Ishan to look ahead to this weekend's games. Hello Ishan.
00:00:19
Eshan
Hello, hello. Lots of good fixtures this weekend. I'm very excited to get into it.
00:00:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
and no better place to start off with the Friday game Brighton versus Chelsea. We saw a preview of this last week where it ended 2-1 and how Jackson's injured and Jorgensen's been said by Mareska to be the new number one.
00:00:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
This feels like it could be a pretty similar squad to what Chelsea played last season lost last week not plus season sorry and Kunko up front who didn't get a shot away last week.
00:00:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Do you see any improvement on last weekend's FA Cup game?
00:00:58
Eshan
uh well this is just a little theory that i have because this happens like i feel like every season this happens like there's a cup game and like right after this in regular game that happened with united and lester earlier this season um where you you see a slightly different performance so i expect to see an improved chelsea side i i think Maresco will have learned from it. The players will not want to lose again at the Amex. I don't think Chelsea fans will be very forgiving of it twice in a row. um So I expect to see an improved Chelsea side. But equally, I don't think Brighton are going to be um
00:01:38
Eshan
lacks a days ago about it, or um they're going to be cutthroat because that's the way Hertzler

Arsenal's Lineup Challenges

00:01:45
Eshan
coaches his teams. The only really big result they've slipped up on this season has been forest away, which I mean, every team has one bad result in a season.
00:01:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:01:55
Eshan
um But I am predicting a draw. I'll go 1-1. How about you, Nick?
00:02:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it could be another 2-1. I don't think either of these teams are in particularly great form going into this. And obviously, Britain need a bit of a bounce back, they probably had that last week. But in terms of Premier League games, so I think Britain need a big bounce back and this at home, they should come out on top in my opinion.
00:02:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
and moving ahead to the 1230 it's lester versus arsenal but it's an arsenal with no attackers anymore we're down to sterling trussard and winnieri so it will likely be trussard false nine winnieri right wing sterling left wing and this should still be enough to beat lester but it's very very bare bones now for arsenal
00:02:48
Eshan
Yeah, um, quick question on Sakura's return. Do we have a like a timeline for that? I know it's um late March.
00:02:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
late March, pretty much at the same time as Martinelli.
00:02:57
Eshan
Oh God.
00:02:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:02:59
Eshan
That is, um,
00:03:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
There's a there's a Chelsea game in mid-March that people think he might him and Martinelli both might get rushed back for. I'd rather we just sort of write it off and just like.
00:03:13
Eshan
Yeah, I think that's Game Week 29. It's the same weekend as the, for FPL nerds out there, it's the same weekend as the Caribou Cup Final.
00:03:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:03:24
Eshan
So, like, nice fixtures. I was looking at that last night.
00:03:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, so it I think there's a chance they're both rushed back in that area, but just leave it. like there's There's not really anything for us to play for.
00:03:36
Eshan
Yeah, yeah, that' that's... As brutal as it sounds, yeah. um Unfortunately, like given that he's out, even until mid-March, that's a crucial part of the title run-in.
00:03:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:03:49
Eshan
And I think he Liverpool, yes, they slipped over Everton on Wednesday, and they're now like no game in hand, only seven points clear.
00:03:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:03:59
Eshan
But realistically, it's going to need seven points a lot in the modern day, especially.
00:04:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
it's still seven points a lot still we say only seven that's they've lost one game that's essentially three losses or two losses in a draw but three losses to actually go ahead of them most likely but I think yeah
00:04:11
Eshan
Yeah,
00:04:14
Eshan
yeah you you'll need a monumental so slip up from Liverpool here.

Villa's Prospects Against Ipswich

00:04:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Going back to this game, but I mean, Leicester have lost their last four home games and only Southampton have conceded more than them.
00:04:18
Eshan
ah
00:04:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
like As bad as that front line feels and kind of is, this should be fine for Arsenal, especially a week and a half off.
00:04:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
We don't really know how late this Havarts injury came in like the warm weather training camp in Dubai, but they should be able to work work this out. There's enough quality to beat Leicester.
00:04:51
Eshan
Yeah, I think so too.
00:04:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
I feel like maybe like a 2-0. I don't think it would be particularly interesting, but after you've got it, it's a period where Arsenal just need to find a way at the moment.
00:05:05
Eshan
Yeah, I can see very much of the same thing. um Just for interesting sake, I'm going to go 1-1. Arsenal no attack. And Leicester look pretty decent ah ah going forward, especially against the United. And I think Leicester will fare better better. I think this is the pattern we'll see with Leicester is they'll do better against the bigger teams, at least like in the game, because it's just going to be a counter-attacking. And I think that suits them. And I think that suits a rude ball a lot more. So I'll go 1-1 just for banter.
00:05:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Onto Villa. Six off top four now. They are in a pretty nothing run. They obviously out had a great performance against Spurs last week. And I think that sort of reinvigoration with the new players will be massive. It'll be interesting to see who out of those starts. I imagine Dassasi will play because they don't have any anyone at the back anymore. ah I think Rashford probably will start.
00:06:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:06:05
Eshan
Interesting.
00:06:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah the I think this should this should be comfortable for Villa, i which are on the longest losing streak right now as well. They've just come off losing to Southampton and Villa at home, this should be comfortable.
00:06:17
Eshan
Yeah.
00:06:20
Eshan
But, I mean, like it should be comfortable, by all is like I did the podcast before the Nottingham Forest game, where Exeter played Nottingham Forest, and you like you think on paper, like they're gonna get blown out, but Exeter had been like had lost their like last five or six games, and this is like a chance to prove themselves.
00:06:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
but
00:06:39
Eshan
I think Ipswich, especially given that they just lost to Southampton, are going to be up for this one. I could see this being a far tougher test than it looks on paper, because Ipswich have been like, this is the make it or break it time.
00:06:52
Eshan
If they're going to make a relegation escape, it has to be in the next five, six games.

Fulham vs. Forest: Defensive Matchup

00:06:57
Eshan
Otherwise, they don't have much chance.
00:06:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah i i think i'd still go like a 2-1 villa i just i don't but i mean yeah to be fair with with the defensive misses now like the amount of injuries i have at centre bat it could be a big chance for Ipswich with almost the attack hoarding that they've done so there's definitely a chance for an upset there but i'd be surprised head to
00:07:03
Eshan
That sounds about right. um i I was going to say do one as well, as so somem I'll just stick with it even though that's boring.
00:07:21
Eshan
Yeah.
00:07:25
Eshan
They have too much depth up front now, and no and not not much injury.
00:07:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Pardon?
00:07:30
Eshan
Villa have too much depth up front for Ipswich, and I think that'll be the telling factor.
00:07:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:07:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. And Fulham versus Forrest. We thought that last week would be the or two weeks ago now would be the start of their sort of tough run i starting with Brighton. Could this now be the start of the tough run away to Fulham? Always a pretty difficult side to know what to expect, it feels like.
00:07:56
Eshan
um It definitely could be. ah I sincerely doubt it. I think they rested so many like of their players in midweek. um Yes, a few of them had to come out to salvage the victory. But they they have a very deep squad, and I think the only person who's even like a slight doubt is Callum Hodzo-Doy.
00:08:16
Eshan
Aside from that full team I would be very surprised to see a slip-up however Fulham are very defensively solid Anthony Robinson is Arguably the best left back in this season. He's I think he's one nine or ten assists now And that's going forward but defensively you see him shut down Salah you see him shut down like the best right wingers in the league and So I think forests are going to have a tough time. I don't think Anthony and Langa is going to be much of a matchup for Robinson. But they have a lot of quality. I could see this being, again, another tight game, a 2-1, a 1-0 kind of victory or a draw.
00:08:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think I go 1-1. I think Fulham wouldn't be the only team to have got a point away at Forest in the first game between these two, so I think it could be quite similar. I think Marcus Silva's a very underrated coach, but I think, like you said, this would be incredibly tight. Before we look ahead to City versus Newcastle and the rest of Saturday's games, let's hear a bit about Zencaster.

City vs. Newcastle Showdown

00:09:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
So onto probably the landmark gamer this weekend, City vs Newcastle, somehow a 3pm and not on TV.
00:09:55
Eshan
Thank you.
00:09:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's Isaac vs Harland. It feels perfect for this Newcastle team, the physical midfield, the quick counter attacks. I feel like this could be not a comfortable win for Newcastle, but like a 2-0, 2-1 sort of away win for Newcastle at the Etihad.
00:10:18
Eshan
Yeah, I mean, on paper, this is this is the beauty of football, in my opinion, is that we can look at a fixture like this and in nine times out of the 10 of the last seasons, City are comfortably winning this. We know nobody is predicting that. And then this season on paper, it's a Newcastle win. But you never know. I mean, I think the biggest thing about City is that they're not finishing out games. And I think that's what scares everyone the most.
00:10:45
Eshan
um
00:10:49
Eshan
But I have a feeling that this is...
00:10:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think he'll be interested to see what he goes with, with Pep.
00:10:57
Eshan
Yeah, I think after overthinking so much in Europe this week, I could see him going with like a more solid 11.
00:11:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:11:04
Eshan
I mean, Akanji being out is really bad. And hopefully, like from a city perspective, they can put stones into midfield because against Real Madrid when stones is in midfield, he was phenomenal. The whole game kept like an assured presence, which they've been severely lacking um with in Roger's absence.
00:11:21
Eshan
So I could see it being a pretty tight game, but Newcastle seem to have the edge.
00:11:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it'd be interesting see if Niko is fit enough as well. If Rico Lewis starts right back against Anthony Gordon, I think that'll cause a lot of issues. ah Yeah, I think I could Newcastle at 2-0. I think this could be... It's the perfect team to go against this city team's deficiencies at the moment, in my opinion.
00:11:55
Eshan
It really is. I'm more playing devil's advocate as a United man.
00:11:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:12:02
Eshan
But yeah, I can't see anything other than a Newcastle victory. I could see it being a pretty open game. um
00:12:15
Eshan
depending I think like this game will like how we see it go will be determined within the first like half an hour because if city are down after the first half an hour then all guns are blazing they're just gonna push for it and try and get back into it but it could just be that kg game so I could see it I'll go I'll go with a 1-0 Newcastle victory but I could definitely see a lot more happening there
00:12:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Onto probably the least interesting game of this weekend, Southampton vs Bournemouth.

Bournemouth's Edge Over Southampton

00:12:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's ultimately can Southampton build on the win against Ipswich, which I highly doubt considering they've lost to Burnley, who are towards the top of the championship in the FA Cup last week.
00:12:55
Eshan
Yeah.
00:12:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
small Can Bournemouth step up into the ah Champions League places? That's probably the biggest story in this game. I don't think we need to touch on it for too long. I feel like a 3-0, 4-0 for Bournemouth.
00:13:07
Eshan
Yeah, I think this is it. I was going to say the exact same. um'll I'll go 4-0 because I think Bournemouth have the... Let's go 4-1 just for... so um But I think Bournemouth are going to smash it. I think they're new, like what looked like a makeshift front three of Semenyo.
00:13:28
Eshan
I'm not even going to say Wataru's name.
00:13:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Watara. Semenyo Watara, Clive.
00:13:31
Eshan
I feel like we're ah butchering Wataru's name, but, um, and clever. That front three is scary, especially you considering none of them are a striker and like they lost, um, Evan Nielsen and Arizona to injury.
00:13:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
ye
00:13:47
Eshan
So losing both their strikers, the whole talk before born with in the January transfer window was how did they find a striker? How did they find a striker? How did they find a striker? And. But all three of them have just been performing scarily good, so it's you can't see anything other than born and smashing them.
00:14:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, West Ham versus Brentford. I'm hoping for a Ferguson debut here. I don't really know what to expect from this game, to be honest. It feels quite unpredictable with West Ham seemingly getting a bit better. like There's more pressing, essentially, as they still lack a lot of athleticism in the team. But Bowen back, a Ferguson debut. i think They'll be going in the right direction.
00:14:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
probably like a 1-1 maybe Brentford steal it just because they have this hilarious sort of tactic to watch where as soon as they get the ball they just ping it sort of into the right wing area foot and bummer to try and find which is so funny to watch every game but angle 1-1 2-1 Brentford possibly
00:14:59
Eshan
Yeah, um I think Brentford's away form has been patchy. And i think I think this is where we're going to see that come out. I think West Ham at home, Under Potter have been slightly better. And I think this could be one of those, especially like kind of a London Derby. I think I could see a West Ham victory in this one. I'm going to go like a 2-1 West Ham.
00:15:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Palace vs Everton, the 5.30 game at the weekend, both teams in really hot form at the moment, Everton coming off possibly one of the biggest results in a long long time, even though it was just a tall draw in the Merseyside Derby, but just how it happened obviously.
00:15:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
It'll be interesting to see how Everton have come into this game. they've been They look so much better under Moise, but Palace's set-up could be a little bit weird for them. Noam Jai as well, who is by far their best player in my opinion.
00:16:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
i think they might have their like hopes and beliefs sort of stunted a bit here away at palace like a one nil two one sort of result in palace's favor i think
00:16:18
Eshan
um interesting that you say that i i think i'll go maybe just a nil no i feel i feel like this is a time for ever to shut up shop i think ah the the message that david moors will be um telling his players is like football is about moments and that was a great moment the last virtually the last kick of the ball of goodness and was an equalizer against this like oh like elective champions, the soon to be elective champions. It's a fantastic moment, but I think he'll ask for calm from his players. I think it'll be hard to shut Crystal Palace out, but if any team is going to do it, I think Everton have a great chance. I think they've
00:16:58
Eshan
Chased after second balls after moise more. I think there's like far more passion in every single play like feels like Not just that it's the belief from the fans is there again, which hasn't I don't remember the last time that was at Everton Probably enchiladi days so I could see a nil-nil here You
00:17:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
it would just be so incredibly evident to have such such an incredible moment. And then just, I mean, it'll be really evident for Palace to just like comfortably win this like three nil.
00:17:30
Eshan
he
00:17:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
But yeah, I think this could be tight.
00:17:32
Eshan
Yeah, these are all, this is all everything.
00:17:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
I wouldn't be surprised by a nil-nil. Before we look ahead at Sunday's games, one really interesting, possibly hilarious game between Spurs and United, let's hear about the Global Sports Podcast Network.

Liverpool's Comeback Potential

00:18:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
So Liverpool versus Wolves, it feels like one of the most perfect games Liverpool could have after they sort of lost their emotions one of the first times this season. There'll obviously be no slot. His assistants also got sent off after full time and Curtis Jones, which I don't think it will be a massive loss, just sort of a bench loss more than a starting 11 loss.
00:18:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think they should be fine. I imagine Hytinger will be the guy on the bench. But it has opened the door more for Wolves than it probably would have. I think they've looked a bit better. They've obviously got a handful of new players. I think Agbadouz looked really good. He was really strong against us when both teams were down to 10 men. But I'd be so surprised if Liverpool didn't win this game.
00:19:12
Eshan
I am very much hoping for a Liverpool loss here from a Premier League perspective. I think the title race will just like the whole narrative around the title title race right now is Liverpool are in control.
00:19:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Same.
00:19:26
Eshan
They're not going to slip up. There's land. I mean, rightfully so. They burned that. But if they get that second loss of the league to a lowly wolves side, who are I think 17th, like one place out of the relegation zone.
00:19:40
Eshan
It'd be so interesting to see how they cope with that. I think to me that's the biggest thing is now there's a chance to slip up here. you know There's a real real chance. like Arsenal have the easy game against Leicester. If they put the boot to them, and and Liverpool only four points ahead and then they've lost their game in hand, I'd be super interested to see that.
00:20:03
Eshan
That being said, I think of victories on the cards here. I think aside from Mateus Kunya, wolves don't have the most threat going forward. And um Xiao Gomes is fantastic and i i I rate him very highly and I think he will be snapped up by a big club eventually.
00:20:22
Eshan
um But it's it's a Liverpool victory. you'd You'd be a brave man to defend against them.
00:20:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, for wolves to have any chance, they need Kunya to be bothered to actually play in this game.
00:20:32
Eshan
Sublime. Yeah.
00:20:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
I feel like him and Pakatoria are a little bit similar without the gambling allegations, where they can have games where they just really don't look like they're bothered.
00:20:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
They feel have like this thing where they feel like they're so much better than their teammates sometimes. so that would need him on it, it feels like the sort of game he should be on it because it's playing away at Anfield to a club that might be interested in you so I was just thinking could this be the sort of the palace at Anfield that we saw last season where just out of nowhere a team towards the bottom of the table go to Anfield and pick up a result, only I don't think that will happen.
00:21:18
Eshan
Hmm.
00:21:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think this will probably be a 2-0, 3-0 to Liverpool because they haven't actually lost anyone massive. I don't think losing a slot or the assistant will prove a massive issue, but yeah.
00:21:31
Eshan
Yeah.
00:21:34
Eshan
i think I think thought helps on the side, but I think a lot of Liverpool's success is down to Jurgen Klopp and the confidence he's instilled into the players. like i I think that's ah that's a huge part of the game is having the mentality to cope in hard times. And I think Liverpool have got that abundance. like You see interviews after the game where they have calmed down and they're answering interviews fine after the Everton like I mean, obviously there's a few like losses.
00:22:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
The Virgil one was a bit head loss.
00:22:06
Eshan
I was just about to mention that. yeah The Virgil one was like, okay, like you've lost your head, my friend. But um typically there are magnanimous in defeat and I can't see them slipping up here.
00:22:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah yeah
00:22:21
Eshan
It's it's just hard to see.
00:22:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
no i i was watching a something from an arsenal teacher i watched earlier and he was talking about how liverpool just have these players who rate themselves so highly and they've got that winning but mentality that a lot of arsenal players just don't have yet largely through a lack of winning most likely so i mean it's such a massive difference when going for titles yeah they've only won one but
00:22:44
Eshan
Yeah.
00:22:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
they've won one and they've won Cup. So I think even being without their manager and his assistant, there'll be no issues for them.

Spurs vs. United: A Clash of Forms

00:23:02
Eshan
Yeah, I'd be very very surprised.
00:23:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Then the other sort of the other sort of landmark game this weekend is Spurs versus United. It's a bit of a game of who can be less bad.
00:23:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Obviously Spurs will have Van de Ven back. They might have a couple of others back. I fear this could be a really bad look for Emmerim. I think Spurs win this game and it will sort of be like, well, Spurs have been awful, like how, you know, beating this Spurs side.
00:23:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
this This feels quite dangerous for Emmerim. I don't think in terms of losing his job or anything like that. I think he's really safe in that area, up but just the general perception of how he's doing this could be dangerous.
00:23:47
Eshan
yeah well this is the problem of the united especially over the like past two years after ten hogs first season is that you you really don't know what's gonna happen on the saturday like i there's always this dreading anxiety thursday and friday that i just look at the fixture list and it's anyone like remotely capable so like 19 of the 20 teams yeah and
00:24:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, you had Palace and Leicester recently, and Leicester recently, even as a neutral, I'm looking at going, well, Palace are the favourites for the league game.
00:24:19
Eshan
yeah oh my god such a bad like a look for united that even south ampton come to the league they come to us and they ah ah essentially should have beat us like they were far better during the full game i watch every united game and it is a test of my mentality that i am able to cope with life still um
00:24:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Leicester wouldn't be surprised if they won. Like, it's such a bad period for United. And like you were saying,
00:24:47
Eshan
Yeah, I'd love to say that United are going to have something for um Spurs, but I think Spurs is the perfect team to smash United. I think Spurs play in such a forward pressing way and United aren't able to get around the high press that well, that.
00:25:05
Eshan
It's going to be moments of quality. That's what this whole game is going to be defined by. um I hear that James Madison is coming back, Vicario is coming back, and Destiny Udoghi is coming back. Van de Ven has been worked back for a while and should start now. so It's not looking good. it's It's not looking good. I think this game will be defined by the first half. I think if United haven't scored and aren't ahead, ah I think Spurs will win it, to be honest, because I i i i think we we can come into games sure, but we need something to latch onto in order to really come into games.
00:25:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
It feels like you need a bit of a Bruno Fernandez carry job, which you sort of got against Liverpool.
00:25:48

Exactly, exactly. when When I think of breaking the high line, the only player that's gonna do that is Bruno. Like no no one else is even looking towards that.

Yeah.

And a big criticism from United Fantasy season is that um Bruno has like played the long ball too often, but I think that will be the saving grace of this game is Bruno just spotting the run of Amada or Garnaccio and somebody breaks a ball.

yeah it feels like it it feels like he needs to go attacking with his fallbacks it feels like that's been something he the amorims lacked maybe i think he's being a bit too pessimistic if it was am i had one side doggo the other both sort of bombing on it trying to put pressure on that high line and then you've got Carnacho and Mayno potentially in the 10 behind whichever of the two strikers you want to pick despite how bad they are but then it could be interesting but I think 2-0 swears at home as well well I don't have much faith

Eshan
Yeah, yeah.

Well, I'm gonna be optimistic and say 2-1 United, but a lot more optimism and a lot more heart than head in the head. I think Dorgu is the key, to be honest. I think Dorgu and the fact that we've actually, for for the first time in so long, had like a solid week and a bit off, because we had the Friday game last weekend, and so now we've had, what, nine days off? Which, in the Premier League, when does that happen?

um so finally there's there's a break in there um but yeah i don't see there's it it's it's hard there's a lot of pessimism and not much hope
